How to embed a sink into a countertop. Kitchen sink installation. How to embed a sink into a countertop. Sink installation and connection

It is difficult to argue with the statement that the kitchen of a modern housewife is the personification of world scientific and technological progress.

An integral element of the working corner of all kitchens, along with a refrigeration unit and a stove, is a sink.

This accessory should be practical, convenient and functional, and also organically fit into the overall interior of the room.

With the existing variety of devices, versions, materials used and artistic finishes, it is very difficult to choose one sink model.

When buying a sink, you need to consider the following factors:

  • space and interior space
  • type of kitchen furniture,
  • the number of people living in the house,
  • owner's personal preference.

What is a good wash? She must be:

  • roomy,
  • resistant to aggressive environment,
  • temperature fluctuations
  • and mechanical damage.

Dirt and grease should be easily washed off its surface.

An improperly selected sink () can turn the process of washing dishes into torture. And this statement is not an exaggeration.

Let it be known to you that most of the affairs in the kitchen, in one way or another, are connected precisely with this household item.

So, it would seem, what could be easier than installing a kitchen sink? But, only an amateur is able to claim that this work can be done easily and quickly.

If you have never done something like this before, then you will have to strain a little and make maximum efforts so that in the future there will be no complaints about your work.

Characteristics by which they differ from each other

For their manufacture, raw materials such as:

  • ceramics,
  • composite materials (artificial stone),
  • natural stone (granite, marble, onyx, travertine),
  • glass,
  • high quality stainless steel.

All modern models have an original appearance and a high degree of practicality.

Kitchen sinks are installed in different places. The most common option is near the wall, and the most practical is in the corner of the room.

Sometimes, the sink is mounted on a cabinet in the middle of the kitchen. Products have different shapes and sizes, as well as the number and depth of bowls.

The question is how the sink will be installed should be decided at the stage of designing the appearance of the premises.

The material for the top board of the table and the sink depends on the style of the kitchen design and on the material capabilities of the owners of the house.

According to the type of installation and conditions of use, sinks are divided into:

How to fix an invoice

Before you start installing the overhead sink, you need to build in all the plumbing equipment. Since after fixing the structure on the pedestal, it will be much more difficult to do.

Attention! The upper ends of the chipboard boards must be treated with silicone, thus creating a water-repellent barrier. This procedure will protect the frame from swelling and deformation.

The overhead sink can be installed in three ways:

If fastening is not provided or a typical fastener does not fit (due to a defect in the countertop), then in this case you can use wooden blocks of different thicknesses and make the base for the sink yourself.

We insert the finished frame into the body along the perimeter of the sink and fix it with metal corners.

After that, we install the sink with the box on the cabinet. It is attached from the inside of the walls to the same corners.

Sequence of operations

The installation of such an accessory, as a rule, does not create problems with a cutout in the countertop. This work can be done even by a non-professional. No special equipment required for fitting.

This procedure is not expensive, it is applicable for kitchen furniture with a common worktop, which can be made of wood, laminate, granite, artificial stone plastic.

There are three ways to embed a sink into a countertop:

  • exactly on the level of the tabletop,
  • a bit higher,
  • a little lower.

In this case, much is determined not only by your desire, but also by the configuration of the kit.

Before performing work, you need to make sure that a reliable water supply is provided to the tie-in place and the drain is well debugged.
For installation, you will need a jigsaw and transparent silicone sealant.

Sometimes, along with a sink, you can get an unexpected surprise - a sink insert template (it acts as its packaging).

Otherwise, the cliche will have to be drawn on the countertop, attaching the product to it.

Work instructions

The sink can only be used after the silicone has completely dried (several hours are enough).

Installing an integrated sink

This type of sink is one of the most expensive and without the involvement of a specialist, it is very difficult to install this accessory yourself.

The main feature of the product is that this accessory forms a single whole with the countertop.

In order for the integrated sink to be installed with high quality, it is necessary to make the installation opening very accurately and make a good seal.

To implement this plan, coordinate milling machines are used. They ensure the integrity of the cut and the high definition of the trajectory along the course and depth.

Thanks to the methods and new tools that have appeared recently, the average layman has the opportunity to independently mount the combined sink.

Installation of undermount sinks made in countertops made of hard wood, natural or artificial stone. In this case, the edges of the shell should be located below the height of the surface by the dimensions of its thickness.

The main rule to follow when performing all sequential actions: do not rush.

Remember, in this case, the law applies:

  • measure seven times, and cut once.

You are going to connect the sink yourself? Consider a few nuances:

  • use silicone sealant instead of rubber seals.
    It will provide a snug fit and fill all small cracks and gaps;
  • heavy products (sinks made of natural and artificial stone) are best connected with a partner, so you can avoid falling and damaging the sink;
  • all fasteners must be mounted exclusively by hand.

If you follow all the simple instructions, then the owner of the house can do the work of installing the sink in the countertop with his own hands without the help of a specialist.

How to install a sink and countertop with your own hands, see the video.

The sink is an indispensable piece of furniture in the kitchen. It is very important - just like a gas stove or a refrigerator. But install the sink in the countertop do-it-yourself is much easier than connecting a gas stove, if you know the principles for performing such work. To do this, it is enough to have the necessary tools and a great desire to learn new things. Choosing the right sink is important here.

Types of kitchen sinks

Kitchen sinks have a very large assortment. You can verify this by visiting a specialized plumbing store. There are many types of sinks. They can be divided into at least six types.

Depending on the type of installation, one can distinguish:

  • Angular, rectangular, round and oval, figured. The simpler and more versatile the shape of the sink, the easier it will be to care for it. Complex figured sinks can decorate the interior of the kitchen well, but they will not be practical in everyday use. Do not forget about the main function of the sink - the presence of a convenient place for washing dishes and other things.
  • Single and with two departments. There are models with a convenient transfusion of water from one sink to another.
  • The faucet can be located on the sink itself or on the wall.
  • The presence of additional functions, such as installing a filter, taps for connecting garden hoses.

The most popular are stainless steel sinks. They are durable, functional, easy to clean, suitable for any interior and most importantly they have an acceptable price.

Steel quality can be checked using an ordinary magnet. When buying, you must attach it to the sink. If it holds up well, then the sink is made of good steel. When the magnet falls off even with a slight movement, it is better not to take such a sink.

Sinks made of steel and granite are both overhead and mortise. Self-installation of a mortise sink in a countertop is not a difficult process, as is the installation of a bill of lading. But for this, you first need to take care of the foundation.

Instrument preparation

In order to attach the sink to the cabinet, you need the appropriate tools. Before installing the sink, it is necessary to check the presence of fasteners for it in the kit. Often these are double-sided clips. Them you need to fix on the ends of the already trimmed countertops and on the inside of the sink. Additionally, the kit should include a tubular sealant for the tightness of the joints.

You also need to take care of the following tools:

  • Jigsaw and a set of paintings to it. It can be replaced with an ordinary saw.
  • Drill with drills of different diameters and screws.
  • A set of tools for measuring: a clerical knife, a water level, a square, a ruler, a screwdriver for screws, a pencil and a tape measure.
  • Silicone sealant.

Sturdy cabinet - a guarantee of durability

Overhead and mortise sinks are installed in cabinets with opening or sliding doors. In this case, the back wall of such a cabinet should be open. In order to assemble the cabinet correctly and reliably, you need to know a few features of mounting.

The bottom line is that such structures do not provide for additional reinforcement and bulkheads, as this can interfere with sewer pipes and the installation of the sink itself. In this regard, the cabinet does not have additional stiffening ribs, which will affect its service life. Moreover, if you install an overhead sink, it will not even have a countertop. Instead, the entire top of the cabinet will be occupied by a steel sink panel. This will also negatively affect the strength of the structure.

A feature of the assembly of cabinets under the sink is a careful approach to its strengthening. It should be much stronger than other kitchen furniture. When installing a sink in the kitchen, rubber gaskets must be placed under the nightstand. This will prevent water leakage. Even with high tightness, moisture can penetrate under it. Rubber gaskets should preferably be treated with waterproof agents. In the inside of the bedside table, you need to install fasteners for jumpers. They are installed after mounting the sink and connecting it. Such jumpers can be made from thick strips.

Installation of overhead and mortise sinks

The overhead sink can be installed in conventional and retractable ways. In the first case, slides are installed on it from the side and front, and the cabinet itself has special grooves. After assembling the bedside table, you can install the sink on the grooves and start connecting it. With a direct mounting method, it is necessary to carefully seal the joints. This will be the mount to the countertop. The sealant will qualitatively stick the sink to the nightstand: it has good waterproof properties. It is necessary to apply it around the entire perimeter on the top of the cabinet and firmly plant the sink.

A large and heavy sink cannot be fixed only with sealant. In this case, it may eventually fall into the bottom of the cabinet along with the dishes and damage the sewer pipes, fixtures and water hoses. You can strengthen it with the help of additional bars or by installing an internal protective crate.

As a rule, overhead sinks are supplied with additional fasteners. They can be made from bars, which must be firmly glued to the top of the cabinet. Then the sink will rest on them.

Before installing a mortise sink, you need to make sure that the cabinet is strong and that the entire sink can be installed in the opening. After fixing the sink, there should be no distortions and irregularities, and it should sit firmly on the nightstand.

Step by step installation instructions

Self-installation of the sink in the countertop will not be difficult, but the instructions must be read and followed. The quality of the installation will depend on this.

How to embed a sink into a countertop

Most sinks have a template to set at purchase. It is designed in the form of a packaging cardboard. It is enough to cut it out and attach it to the countertop. Use a marker to circle the outline - and you can proceed to subsequent work.

If there is no template provided by the manufacturer, you must make it yourself. You can use cardboard from the packaging of a TV or computer, but it must be durable. Having attached the shell to the cardboard, it is necessary to outline its contours and cut out the desired part. If the template came out big - it's okay, you can always trim and fit it to the desired shape. It is better to cut off more initially. Otherwise, it is likely that you will need to look for another cardboard.

Place location and cutout

For such work, it is just appropriate to apply the proverb "measure seven times - cut once." You can freely move the template on the countertop until you start completely cutting out the place under the sink. After determining the exact location, the template must be glued with stationery tape - in order to evenly outline the contours. After that, the template can be thrown away . Surface at the cut must be glued with adhesive tape to avoid damage to the surface during operation.

In order to learn how to install a stainless steel sink on a cabinet, you need to understand how to properly cut a hole for it. First, you need to drill several holes with a diameter of 2 mm along the outlined contour. They are made as close as possible to each other, 3-5 centimeters long. You need to drill for a convenient and easy entry of a saw or jigsaw. Before starting the complete sawing of the contour, it is necessary to connect the holes into a single groove.

Spare blades are purchased before drilling begins. Countertops tend to be very thick and can be difficult to cut. The jigsaw in the hand should be positioned confidently. Minimal bevels and hand shifts to the sides during work can lead to breakage of the blade and damage to the table top.

Completing the installation

Sealant must be applied to the end of the cut hole. Its quantity should be sufficient for high-quality gluing of the shell, but you can not overdo it, as it will crawl out of the edges. The sink must be pressed firmly against the countertop and held for a minute. If the sealant has crawled out of the edges, it is removed with an ordinary rag from the outside and inside. It will take several hours for the glue to dry completely. After that, it is necessary to wash, connect to the water supply and sewerage.

Important points when installing the sink

Insertion of a sink is a simple process, but requires special attention to detail. Especially when it comes to specific types of sinks, such as ceramic or glass. They should be well attached to the countertop.

Several rules must be followed sink settings:

Most sinks are installed in the corner or near the wall adjacent to the bathroom, as they are tied to the sewer. But today, technology allows you to mount it anywhere in the kitchen.

Where to install the sink depends on the preferences and taste of the hostess, as well as on the type of kitchen furniture. If each part of the headset is separate, and in the near future it is not planned to completely change it, then you can install an overhead sink. But in the case of installing a sectional kitchen set with one large worktop, it is better to buy a mortise sink to avoid dampness.

A kitchen renovation cannot be completed until a sink is built into the countertop. In this article, we'll walk you through the step-by-step process of installing a sink in a kitchen: how to make the right markings, how to cut a hole in the countertop, and how to achieve a really competent installation of a sink.

How the sink is installed

You should only install the sink yourself if this service is not included in the countertop manufacturer's price list. At home, it is quite possible to perform such work, but attention should be paid to some non-obvious points that are known only to professional furniture assemblers.

So, the sink is installed in the countertop using the tie-in method. First, a hole is cut in the center of the array according to the exact dimensions, its edges are properly processed. Then the sink is inserted, its body is fixed to the back side with special fasteners, and the gap between the metal and the countertop is carefully sealed. At the end of the installation, the installation of fine plumbing, a sewer siphon or a waste chopper is carried out.

There are three main requirements for installing a sink: fastening strength, tight fit and thorough sealing against moisture. Most often, chipboard with a thickness of 40–60 mm is used as the basis for countertops. This material is very sensitive to high humidity, which is very typical for the washing area. Due to poor-quality installation, the edges of the hole dry out, which may require replacing the entire countertop or even the entire headset.

Marking

The sink should be centered in the middle of the depth of the countertop, offset to the left and right for the most convenient location. The distance from the edge of the sink to the edge of the countertop should not be less than 50–70 mm, otherwise the sink should be moved slightly deeper. It is not recommended to indent less than 30–40 mm from the corner plinth, otherwise it will be difficult to wipe the surface in this place. When installing a sink in a corner section, it is useful to leave a gap of 100-140 mm from both walls in order to get a small space for convenient placement of household chemicals and cleaning supplies.

Some manufacturers supply their products with installation templates, some do not. If there is a template, it must be glued to the front side of the countertop, lightly wetting the surface with water. This will help avoid accidental shifting and markup without assistance. The template usually indicates the width of the side of the sink, otherwise it must be measured and marked for visual control of the porch.

If there is no template, the sink must be turned over and installed on the countertop, carefully observing the indents. The sink should be circled with a water-soluble marker and removed, and then shift the contour line inward by the width of the side. If the bowl does not follow the outer contours, which is found in sinks with a drying tray, the marking lines must be shifted a certain distance on each side. If two sinks or a waste compartment are combined in one block, a common hole is cut out under them.

How to quickly and accurately cut a hole for a sink

We note right away that with a household tool you can cut a hole only in a countertop made of chipboard or solid wood, regardless of the type of coating. Stronger materials such as silicon agglomerate require special cutting tools and fixtures.

First, you need to drill several holes in the countertop with a diameter of 10–12 mm at the marking line, but without crossing it. Usually 4 holes are drilled at diametrically opposite points of the contour or at the corners of the rectangle. Drilling must be started from the front side so as not to tear out a large area when the drill exits.

To cut a hole for a sink, you will need an electric jigsaw, on which a file with a width of at least 8 mm and a tooth length of about 1.4–2 mm is installed. It is better to choose the opposite direction of the tooth so that when sawing there are no chips on the front surface. And although the edge of the sink covers a strip of 12–20 mm from the edge, some countertop coatings behave unpredictably and give a rather long crack.

First, a hole is cut on two opposite sides, then a small plank of chipboard or wood is laid across the cut lines. It is attracted by self-tapping screws to the sawn part of the countertop and keeps it from falling when the cut is completed. After installing the bar, you must complete the cutting of the fragment and remove it. An open cut, all chips and unprotected edges are liberally treated with transparent silicone, leaving a layer of at least 0.5 mm, and allowed to dry.

Sink installation and connection

Almost all sinks are equipped with tape seals, but they are quite hygroscopic and accumulate moisture in themselves, creating conditions for the development of mold. Manual sealing with silicone sealant is required instead of standard seals.

With an indent of 1–2 mm from the edge of the hole, a silicone flagellum is squeezed out onto the countertop in a circle, the thickness of which is 2–3 mm greater than the height of the sink rim. Another flagellum is applied with an indent of 10 mm from the first. Silicone should be left for 30-40 minutes until its surface stops sticking to the hands. Then the sink is installed in the hole, its edges are carefully pressed down, giving the silicone the desired shape. The sink should be tightly adjacent to the countertop around the entire perimeter, otherwise it may unscrew a little when tightening the fasteners. After 5–10 minutes, the sink must be removed and make sure that the silicone has not burst or spread. Thus, a double continuous edge is formed on the countertop, which excludes the ingress of water inside, while the sink can be easily dismantled.

Before the final installation and fixing of the countertop, it is necessary to mount fittings on it, access to which will be difficult with a bowl, that is, a mixer and an overflow hose, if any. But the siphon or chopper is much more convenient to attach to the installed sink so that it can be held during installation by the open drain hole.

To fix the sink, steel loops are provided in it, located along the contour of the bowl in an amount of 4 to 10 pieces. They are threaded with screw clamps in the form of paws, the edges of which should be oriented outward. After that, the sink is lowered into the hole and finally leveled, then the screws are tightened, firmly pressing the sides to the countertop.

Tricks of professional editing

The main difficulties in installation arise when making a hole: if the gap between the edge of the countertop and the bowl is too large, the tabs of the fasteners may unbend. If the hand is not firm, it is better not to touch the marking line when cutting, and if necessary, adjust the size with a rasp.

When the sink is pressed down, the silicone should not burst. It is better to squeeze a small drop out of the tube in advance and observe how long it takes for a sufficiently strong film to form on the surface.

The mounting screws should not be overtightened, especially with increased clearance. This leads to the fact that the sides of the sink are not pressed, but are bent upwards. A small gap between the side and the countertop can also be sealed with silicone.

It takes ~3 minutes to read

The sink is an indispensable element of the kitchen interior. Most of the products have to be washed before eating: vegetables and fruits, meat, fish and others. And after the meal you need to wash all the dishes. Installing a sink in a countertop is becoming increasingly popular, like all built-in appliances. Kitchen design looks neater and more expressive when furniture and household appliances are one.

However, when purchasing a sink, it is important to take into account not only its aesthetic qualities, but also its functionality and reliability. Installation knowledge is required for these features to work properly. Installation by a master is not very cheap, especially in Moscow, so some people decide to do it themselves. About there, how to properly mount the sink yourself is described in this article.

Preparation for installation activities

Before carrying out installation work, you should prepare everything you need: tools, consumables and the sink itself. The countertop should already be installed in your kitchen. Moreover, it must match the sink material. Because countertops of different size and composition have different load-bearing capacity, that is, the maximum load that it can withstand. Thus, stainless steel is suitable for thin countertops. If you have it stone, then the material of the shell (at least) is an artificial stone. Or you can pick up special holders that are installed in the nightstand under the platform.

What tools will be needed? You should prepare: measuring instruments, an electric drill (or a jigsaw), several screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench, a construction knife, a sealant gun. Required consumables are determined by the intended mounting method. You can make a universal list of what will come in handy in any case: screws, sealants and construction adhesive. Also, do not forget about plumbing, for the implementation of which you will need a siphon, a water supply hose and a mixer.

Markup rules

An important stage, during which the location of the sink will be clarified in accordance with its dimensions. Undoubtedly, we also build on the parameters of the selected sink, but there should be no contradictions with the standard rules for location and mounting.

Firstly, the edge of the cutting (the place where the sink and countertop come into contact) must be at least 50 mm from the edge. This rule must be observed regardless of further installation methods.

The sink can be planted on glue or hardware. Only in both cases it is necessary to reduce the load on the edges. An exception is a fragment with a rear end. Here the distance to the cut can be even 25 mm. This is due to less pressure on the structure in this part. Do not forget about communications when marking up (then they will be connected to the central point of the sink). They must freely pass to the sink to provide water supply and drainage to the sewer.

Installing a sink with glue

This method of attaching the sink to the countertop is not the most reliable, but it is simple and fast. If everything is done well, the fit is tight, then the mount can be quite durable. Before applying glue, finish the edges of the countertop in the cut areas. To do this, use materials with finely abrasive particles (sandpaper, fine-grained grinding wheel). Then we lay out a sealant made of polyethylene, which often comes with the product in the kit.

We warn you that the glue method is only suitable for installing stainless steel sinks, not stone ones. They can move, breaking the fixation. Both the areas in the future in contact with the countertop and its actual edges are smeared with an adhesive solution. It will be possible to use the kitchen only after the composition has completely crystallized.

Mortise and overhead sinks - differences in installation

This provides installation instructions for these two types of sinks. We will analyze the installation of a mortise sink in stages.

  1. The kit usually contains cardboard templates, if they are not there, use the sink itself. Mark the template on the finished worktop or on a separate module that allows the installation of built-in elements. We fix with tape in several parts. Do not forget that the sink does not come into contact with the sides and struts.
  2. Determine the location of the sink on the work surface. Approach this responsibly, because usability depends on it. The normal distance from the edge of the table is from 5 to 10 cm. We draw the outline of the template. Further, stepping back 1.5 cm, we draw another contour. On it we will cut a hole.
  3. We drill holes with an electric drill according to intelligence. The drill diameter is usually standard (10-12 mm), we select according to the drill blade. Then we pass with a jigsaw around the perimeter.
  4. Before attaching the sink to the countertop, we clean the place from sawdust and dust, process it with sandpaper.
  5. We got a hole, now we insert a sink into it, we check whether it was cut out accurately and whether the sides fit well. We also look at the mixer and flexible hoses, because it is problematic to repair them with the sink installed.
  6. On the inside of the hole, we process the edges of the countertop with a silicone-based sealant to protect it from moisture.
  7. On the edge of the sawn place (on the front side of the countertop) we put double-sided tape. If it is not included in the kit, we re-apply the sealant.
  8. Now the insertion of the sink is carried out directly. Try to press firmly to the edges so that all the cracks are filled with sealant. With the help of fasteners we tighten from below. We do this sequentially: we attract the corners diagonally not to the stop. In the same way, we drag the mounting screws in the middle. We clean off excess tape and sealant.

To have a more accurate idea will help the video on how to properly embed the sink into the countertop.

Now consider how to fix the sink invoice.

  1. The easiest method is to attach to it. We install the overhead sink on a special bedside table. It should completely cover the edges of the cabinet, and its width should not exceed the width of the underframe. The ends of the latter are treated with silicone sealant. We put and press down the sink. It will be securely fixed after the sealed material dries, which will be an excellent protection against moisture.
  2. Fasteners for mounting brackets. In a standard situation, special mounts are used that come with the kit (you can buy separately). We screw in the screws from the inside of the cabinet, then we bait the brackets on them. Now tighten the screws a little. We install our object and shift the mounting angle along the screw, trying to fix the self-tapping screw in the corner to fully press the sink to the underframe. At the end, we tighten the screws to the end.
  3. Fixing with wooden blocks. If there are defects in the countertop, there are no fasteners at all, then the standard installation method will not work. In this case, we take wooden bars and furniture corners and create an assembly site. Bars can be lowered into the box. Then we attach the corners around the perimeter. We put the structure on the bedside table. From the inner walls of the underframe we fasten the rest of the corners. To make the top of the sink flush with the cabinets, the height of the bars can be adjusted.

Fasteners are tightened exclusively by hand, so as not to deform or overtighten the sink.

To install directly to the wall without a pedestal, we use special brackets on the sink. We make two markings of different heights (the first is 80 cm, the second is slightly lower). This will be the bracket line. We drill holes in the wall, fix the brackets.

Connecting the sink to communications

First of all, cold and hot water hoses are connected from two sides: to the mixer, to the water supply channel. The junction of the first must necessarily contain a rubber insulation. Next, we introduce a siphon outlet. It is better to choose a curved type, because bottles get dirty quickly. A sewer pipe is connected to the siphon.

If it was not a ceramic or metal sink that was installed, but made of artificial stone, then the communication material should be the most durable and tough. For example, a branch pipe is a reinforced corner structure. At the end, we check all the joints and, if necessary, provide them with sealing cuffs.

Conclusion

So that repairs do not come at a high price, carefully plan the purchase of the necessary tools and materials, study photos and videos on the Internet so that you do not have to call specialists to correct the situation. By following all the rules, you can achieve excellent results without outside help.

Video: self-installation of the sink in the countertop

A set of kitchen furniture includes many components for different purposes. The central element of the headset in this room can be called a countertop. This is not just the main work surface, but also a kind of frame with which kitchen communications, shelves, cabinets and, of course, a sink interact. And if the communication connection is carried out according to standard schemes with specified hole parameters, then the integration of functional elements into the platform niche itself requires more serious preparation. The operations of cutting and performing fasteners are only a part of the working steps, without which the countertop cannot do. It is not easy to implement these and other tasks on your own, but it is possible if you follow the instructions.

Preparation for installation activities

Before starting work activities, you should prepare consumables, tools and the sink itself. At this point, the countertop should be installed, and the material of its manufacture should correspond to the sink. The fact is that different countertops, depending on the size and material of manufacture, have different bearing capacity. Thin models based on composites can only withstand stainless steel sinks. If you plan to install a sink made of stone in the countertop, then you should focus on a high load. In this case, either the tabletop must be made of at least artificial stone, or additional holders are provided in the pedestal itself under the platform.

As for tools, you should prepare a set of measuring instruments, an electric drill or a jigsaw, screwdrivers, an adjustable wrench, a construction knife and a sealant gun. What consumables will be needed - it depends on the installation method, which will be discussed later. The universal list includes screws and sealant. In addition, do not forget about plumbing, the organization of which involves the use of a siphon, a water supply hose and a mixer.

Markup rules

This is a crucial stage, during which the configuration of the sink will be determined in accordance with its dimensions. Of course, one should build on the parameters of a particular sink, but there are also standard placement rules that the selected installation scheme should not contradict. First of all, the cutting edge, that is, the line of contact between the sink and the countertop, should be located at least 50 mm from the edge. This value should be maintained regardless of the method by which the further installation of the sink into the countertop will be carried out.

You can independently put the sink on both glue and hardware, but in both cases, the load on the edge must be minimized. The only exception is the section with the rear end, where the distance from the edge to the cut can be 25 mm, since in this part the pressure on the structure will be less. Also, when marking, you should remember about the communications that will be connected to the central washing point - they must fit freely so that both water supply and drainage to the sewer are provided.

Cutting the countertop to the size of the sink

After marking, the lines of the future cut should be ready. To perform cutting, two tools are used - a jigsaw and an electric drill. First, a drill comes into play, which will create niches for sawing. If installation is planned, then it is necessary to make holes with a depth of at least 10 mm in each corner. Next, from each hole with a jigsaw, you need to make a connection with another nearby point along a straight cut line.

A different approach should be taken if a round sink is installed in a countertop. It is more difficult to cope with this task on your own, since it will be necessary to perform not a straight cut, but a curved cut. But work should also begin by creating a hole with an electric drill. It will be one. To facilitate cutting, it is desirable to initially have a jigsaw designed for curly cutting. Then you should carefully guide the saw strictly along the intended circular line. It is important to avoid even small deviations, to cut smoothly and without jerks.

Installing a sink with glue

The adhesive method of fixing the sink is not the most reliable, but practical and, subject to a tight fit, can be quite durable. Before applying glue, it is necessary to process the edges of the countertop in the places of cutting. For this, fine abrasive materials are used in or a fine-grained grinding wheel. Next, a sealant based on polyethylene is applied. Usually it is supplied with the product.

It is also worth noting that the stainless steel sink is installed in the countertop using the adhesive method, but not stone models, the shift of which can lead to a violation of fixation. Both the places of future contact of the sink itself and the polished edges of the countertop are pre-lubricated with glue. It will be possible to use the sink for its intended purpose only after the complete crystallization of the composition - you need to wait about 24 hours.

Installing a sink with fasteners

Mechanical fixation will provide greater reliability, but there is one caveat. The adhesive composition increases the tightness of the convergence of the sink and countertop. In the case of screws, the risk of flooding at the joints will be prevented by the use of waterproof sealants in a larger volume than in the case of adhesive installation. Usually, fasteners are supplied in the kit, so you don’t have to look for special hardware.

The “cross” installation of the sink in the countertop is considered optimal. You can independently make such an installation either with a screwdriver or a screwdriver manually. The fastening strips are arranged diagonally, after which the complete screws are integrated into the technical holes.

Mortise and overhead sinks - differences in installation

Mortise sinks involve individualized installation, including with figured cutting of the countertop. Overhead models also rarely do without pre-treatment of the platform, but in this case, the markings for future cutting are made in straight lines. As a rule, a square or rectangular shape is prepared, and cutouts of this format are made in special panels at the factory.

What is the advantage of installing a sink in the countertop? It is more difficult to implement figured cutting for such a sink on your own, but in the end it will provide a higher degree of reliability, not to mention aesthetic appeal.

The nuances of installing ceramic sinks

Both ceramic and stone sinks are made using the inset technique only. For such models, the creation of a more durable supporting structure with high-quality fixation is required. Fastening is recommended to be carried out according to the combined method - that is, using glue and mechanical fasteners. In this way, the optimal installation of the ceramic sink into the countertop will be carried out.

You can also prepare an internal holding base yourself. This is done with the help of wooden planks that insure the niche of a heavy countertop under the cabinet. You can also fasten such strips with nails, but a more preferable option involves the use of self-tapping screws or screws.

Connecting the sink to communications

First, the cold and hot water supply hoses are connected. On the one hand - to the mixer, on the other - to the water channel. The mixer integration point must contain a rubber seal. Next, a siphon outlet is introduced into the sink - it is advisable to use a curved model, since bottle outlets quickly become clogged. A sewer pipe is connected to the siphon.

If installation was carried out in the countertop, then the communication line should be used as rigidly as possible. For example, the nozzle may have a reinforced corner structure. At the final stage, it is necessary to check all connections and, if necessary, provide the joints with sealing cuffs.

During the installation process, regardless of the installation method, a sealant will be applied. You should not feel sorry for him, since the joints must be well sealed. However, excess that extends beyond the gaps must be removed before they dry out.

Another nuance concerns working with stone and ceramic structures. This is the most time-consuming installation of a sink in a countertop. It is physically difficult to make such an installation on your own in the kitchen, so it is better to work with a partner. And one more point concerns the choice of the method of tightening the screws. If possible, it is better to perform such operations without power tools and manually, since excessive force can lead to deformation of the materials of the countertop and the sink itself.

Conclusion

How ergonomic a sink integrated into the countertop will be depends on many factors. The location of the object in the overall configuration of the headset will be of the greatest importance. In this case, the installation of the sink in the countertop will determine the durability and reliability of the arranged structure. Self-installation can guarantee the success of future operation only if the above recommendations are followed, as well as with the high quality of the consumables used.

Particular attention in this context should be given to sealants and adhesives. It is advisable to choose both products from the lines of large manufacturers recommended for use in the kitchen in harsh operating conditions.
