How to make a niche in the bedroom

The bedroom requires a sensible approach, as this room should give the impression of lightness and comfort. You also need to take care of the placement of various things. The abundance of furniture in the bedroom is not welcome, it is better to shift the practical function of placing the necessary items to niches made of drywall. The use of this material provides unlimited possibilities in the design of an individual room interior. After looking at ready-made projects with a practical and attractive design, you will certainly think about how to make a niche in the bedroom.

What is drywall

Gypsum board (GVL) is often used for interior wall decoration and creating interior structures. This material is easy to cut and install, it is environmentally friendly and non-flammable. The wall sheets are 12.5 mm thick and light in weight. It is possible to create partitions and niches of various shapes from drywall, and a special arched material bends easily and does not crack. The assembly of the structure will not take much time - it can be done on your own, without involving builders. Inexpensive drywall construction can change the perception of space, so the design of a bedroom with a niche will make the room more harmonious and attractive.

Niche above the bed

First of all, you should sketch a plasterboard wall with a niche. Depending on the purpose of the decorative element, its size is selected. The shape of the recess is also determined during the development of the project. Lighting wiring will make the shelf more spectacular. As decorative lighting, spotlights or LED strip are used. A shallow niche above the bed can be decorated with glass or textured plaster. Photographs, books, vases and other interior decorations are placed on such a shelf. If necessary, arrange two identical niches one above the other.

What tools and materials are needed for work

For an independent drywall construction device, you will need: level (water or laser), perforator, tape measure, metal scissors, screwdriver, spatula. The construction of a building with your own hands will require the installation of a frame, sheathing it with sheets of drywall and puttying the surface. To install a niche you will need:

  1. guide profile.
  2. Rack profile.
  3. Dowel.
  4. Self-tapping screws.
  5. Sheets of wall drywall.
  6. Putty.
  7. Perforated corner.

Stages of work

  1. The contour of the future niche is marked on the wall, a guide profile is attached to it. On the floor and walls, the installation of the frame for the false GVL wall is marked, with the help of a plumb line it is transferred to the ceiling. The distance from the wall to the partition will be equal to the depth of the niche.
  2. The guide profile is cut into segments of the desired length and fastened into the holes drilled with a perforator using dowels.
  3. A rack profile is inserted into the rails fixed on the floor and ceiling. Its verticality is checked by a level. Racks are placed opposite the side walls of the formed niche.
  4. Now you need to cut and fix the horizontal parts from the rack profile, on which the drywall will be hemmed. The segments are fixed with self-tapping screws on vertical posts parallel to the profile that marks the back wall of the niche. It turns out a three-dimensional frame, on which it remains to fasten pieces of GVL cut to size.
  5. If you plan to install a backlight, then the wiring should be laid before the frame lining. At the location of the lamp in drywall, a round hole is cut out equal to the diameter of the device. Drywall is screwed with self-tapping screws, the attachment points are made in increments of 20 cm. Initially, the contour of the niche is sewn up, and then the rest of the wall.

It remains to finish the structure with putty and final decoration with paint or wallpaper. The first layer of putty is applied to the seams and attachment points, the outer corners are formed using a perforated corner, and the joints are covered with a reinforcing mesh. Before starting the putty, the entire surface is primed, then the starting putty is applied. After drying, the surface is polished, cleaning the irregularities. A thin finishing layer of putty completes the finish. The color of the niche in the wall is chosen in combination with the general decoration of the room, it is made in a close or contrasting shade. It is not recommended to use a dark color so that there is no feeling of failure.

Practical TV placement solution

A TV niche is arranged opposite the bed, its dimensions depend on the size of the screen. The false wall device allows you to run shelves around the main niche for other things. The wires from the TV will be hidden by drywall, which will give the room an aesthetic look. The height of the niche placement is selected at eye level. The process of its installation is similar to that described above, but this design will require reinforcement with horizontal stiffeners from the supporting profile.

To design a place for a TV, you can make a niche in the form of a frame. Such a design will require a minimum amount of materials. It starts with markings on the wall. The inner and outer contour of the niche is marked. A guide profile is attached to the wall along all marked lines with dowels. The outer part of the frame is attached to it with the help of jumpers from the supporting profile. Internal and external racks are arranged in parallel. It turns out a design in the form of a three-dimensional frame, which is sewn up with drywall. To hang the TV on the inside of the wall, a special bracket is attached. The plasterboard niche is puttied and painted.

Niche for placing a bed

The originality and comfort of the interior of the room will give the placement of the head of the bed in a plasterboard niche arranged on the entire wall. The shape of the structure is rectangular, square, arched or complex. Usually a backlight is installed in such a niche. You can effectively highlight the inner zone using various textures, patterns or contrasting colors. The side parts of the structure are used to create small niches that replace bedside tables. The use of environmentally friendly and non-combustible GVL makes the finish safe for health.

Note! With a lack of free space, you can make a fairly deep niche in which a folded bed is placed. It closes with a door and the room gets extra space.

Creating niches in the bedroom is a creative and painstaking process, but by performing high-quality installation and finishing, you will get an original and stylish interior of the room.
