Interior arches in interiors

Arches have long been a favorite element of the decor of a room, carrying not only an aesthetic, but also a functional load. The doorway, designed in the form of an arch, becomes an original and at the same time an organic part of the interior.

The main reasons for the popularity of arches in the apartment:

  1. Arches, regardless of their location in the living space, create a feeling of freedom and openness.
  2. Openings in the form of arches smooth out sharp corners in the interior, making it smoother and softer.
  3. Arches in the interior are a great way to unobtrusively zone the room, visually dividing it into separate parts.
  4. These small architectural forms create a single design of the apartment, organically uniting all its premises.
  5. Arches contribute to design experiments, fitting well into any interior and giving it originality.

Various types of arches in the interior

According to the role of the arch in the general concept of the room and the house, it can be attributed to one of two types:

  • passive;
  • active.

Passive arches have a simple, traditional shape, and it is quite possible to build them yourself. Active arches are distinguished by their complexity and intricacy of form, they are able to visually expand and modify the space. They are stylistically and architecturally complex, since they open a view to several adjacent rooms at the same time. Unlike passive ones, it is advisable to entrust the construction of active arches to professionals.

Classification of arches in the interior by shape

According to the shape of the arch, it is customary to divide the arch into several types:

  1. Classic

This is perhaps the most common type of design. Their diameter is always equal to the width of the door opening. The correct lines of the classic arch look smooth and elegant, and look great not only in classic, but also in many other interior styles.

  1. Art Nouveau arches

The arc of such an arch is characterized by a well-defined rise in the form of a part of a semicircle, as well as unusual, intricate lines. Art Nouveau arches look unusual and at the same time elegant, and fit perfectly both directly into the Art Nouveau interior and into many others.

  1. romantic arches

Such arches do not have a clearly defined arc. Its lateral surfaces are connected to the transverse one not at an angle, but by means of smooth roundings. Romantic arches are the most successful option for decorating wide doorways.

  1. Rectangular arches ("portal")

This is the easiest way to decorate the interior of the arch, but at the same time it is quite spectacular, largely depending on the materials used to decorate it.

These arches follow the shape of a regular or irregular ellipse, and look spectacular and solid in the interior of the apartment.

In addition to the above, interior arches in the interior can be of other forms:

  • rocker;
  • trapezoid;
  • transom;
  • semi-arch;
  • pointed arch;
  • horseshoe arch;
  • keeled arch;
  • oblique;
  • creeping, and others.

Materials that are used to decorate the arches in the house

The complexity of the work itself and the appearance of the finished arch will depend on the material chosen for the design of the arch. The most popular materials for decorating and installing arches in an apartment are:

  • wood;
  • brick;
  • drywall;
  • Styrofoam;
  • plastic.

Each of these materials has its pros and cons. So, brick arches are stable, durable and look good in an apartment, but unusual design ideas cannot be realized in brick. In addition, the installation of such arches is quite complicated and only a professional can do it.

Looks great on natural wood. Arches made of this material are beautiful, environmentally friendly, aesthetic, because they can be additionally decorated with carvings. But wooden arches are expensive, and in order to maintain their performance, they require special care - treatment with special compounds and varnishes. But MDF arches can be found much more often, because they are much more affordable. Usually they are decorated with veneer or a special film to give the desired look.

Drywall arches have practically no flaws. This material is absolutely safe and environmentally friendly. It is easy to work, so you can easily make an arch from it with your own hands. Drywall is suitable for working on any surface, it is easy to give it any desired shape.

It is also easy to work on finishing arches and polystyrene. It is very easy to mount the details of the future arch from it: for this you just need to glue them. The disadvantage of polystyrene is that it is fragile, therefore, in some cases, the arched structure needs to be further strengthened with a metal mesh.

Various arches in the interior

Arches look very organic in the corridors. They help to make the passage room more comfortable, light and elegant. The arches in the hallway make you perceive the perspective of the entire room in a new way, creating a smooth transition to adjacent rooms and opening up a beautiful view of them.

No less popular are arches for decorating doorways in the kitchen or dining room. This is the ideal solution for visually separating the kitchen from the dining or living room. In addition, in the kitchen, you can build an arch over the bar or over the stove. Finished with brick or artificial stone, such an arch will serve as an original decoration for the kitchen.

An interesting option is to combine a loggia with an adjacent room, bedroom or living room with the help of an arch. In this case, the basis for mounting the arch will be a heavy beam separating these two rooms.

Arches in the form of an alcove in an apartment are an unusual design move that allows you to create a unique interior for a bedroom or bathroom. In the niche formed by the arch, you can place a bed or a bathroom, respectively.

Very beautiful arches are obtained if you decorate them with built-in lamps, plastic elements, glass or mirrors, decorative moldings, creating your own unique interior with unique arches.
