A characteristic element is the most simple finishing of all surfaces. It is made with natural materials.

Italian variety

Despite the fact that the Italian culture was formed on the basis of the Antique culture, the birthplace of which is Ancient Greece, the Greek and Italian design traditions have many differences.

First of all, it concerns the color scheme. The "Italian" palette is brighter. It includes bright yellow, green, brown, golden and olive colors.

The "Appenine" Mediterranean style in the interior has a somewhat vintage tint, so all surfaces should be rough and rough.

Mosaics, paintings, ceramic tiles and brick inserts are used for wall decoration. The decorative stucco plaster, which contains small marble chips, looks especially authentic on the walls.

Ceramic plates, vases, large bottles and multi-colored pillows look perfect in the Italian interior. They give the dwellings a special flavor.

Italian Mediterranean style in the interior of the living room

Do you want to bring the breath of the south and summer into your home? Then this design option will be a great choice for you.

The Italian interior should be devoid of pomposity. When creating it, special attention should be paid to ensuring the comfort of the owners and guests of the house.

When finishing it, you need to use wood and plaster. It is also possible to simply paint the walls in a warm shade of beige or cream.

Note! The Italian Mediterranean style in the interior is fundamentally different from the antique or Tuscan.

The latter is also a variety. However, this is the rustic style of Tuscan winegrowers, while the Mediterranean was created by the inhabitants of the Italian province, whose life is connected with the sea.

Mediterranean-style curtains for the living room should be light and airy. Their combination with through shutters resembling blinds will help protect the room from the scorching sun.

You can also use Mediterranean style roman blinds. They have a design that allows you to reliably protect the room from prying eyes. The best options are made of dense fabric, lined.

Mediterranean style bedroom

The Mediterranean-style bedroom is comfortable and conducive to restful sleep. Best of all, this design suits spacious rooms with huge windows. As already mentioned, two design options are possible. Let's talk about how a Greek bedroom in a Mediterranean style should look like.

Such a Mediterranean style in the interior of the bedroom is created in a light color palette. In order for the eye to have something to “catch on”, a dark tree is used. In particular, furniture is made from it, as well as decorative beams located on the ceiling. They give the interior a rustic flavor. In addition, greenery is required indoors. For example, pots with indoor plants or tubs with dwarf palms and other trees.

Furniture

Greek bedroom in Mediterranean style should be furnished with wooden furniture. Wrought iron pieces of furniture are also suitable. For example, a high metal bed with a beautiful back would look appropriate.

If a wooden option is chosen, then it should have an artificially aged look. Do not use intricately carved or polished models. All furniture should look as if it were made in a handicraft workshop.

Another country accent that will help emphasize the Mediterranean style in the interior is the textile design of the bed. It should be as simple as possible.

Do not use lush bedspreads or expensive fabrics with a sheen.

In addition to the bed in the bedroom, you can install a massive chest of drawers for linen. From the dressing table, as such, it is better to refuse. A great addition to the interior will be a large mirror in a massive wooden frame.

Returning to the topic of textiles, we want to tell you what Mediterranean-style curtains should be for a bedroom. Traditionally, in the countries of this region, natural fabrics of light colors are used for their tailoring. Curtains decorate not only window openings, but also doorways.

Mediterranean style kitchen

Both Greek and Italian housewives, especially in the provinces, cook a lot. In this regard, in these countries, special traditions for decorating kitchen premises have been formed.

In general terms, such a design requires space. You are unlikely to get a Mediterranean-style kitchen on a "couple" of square meters. Although with a skillful approach, even in Khrushchev, you can decorate a minimalist interior with a South European flavor.

Of course, it will not be possible to do without modern storage systems. Just when choosing them, you should give preference to options with simple wooden facades, without polishing.

The interior should contain a lot of ceramics, including dishes, as well as forged products.

The main element of the decor can be an apron, which for the Italian version of the kitchen design can be finished with a mosaic.

Mediterranean style in the interior of the bathroom

A traditional Mediterranean-style bathroom will look best when decorated in the tradition of Greek design. Its blue and white scale looks great in the interior of the bathroom, as it is associated with sea holidays. Add "Mediterranean" allows the use of large tubs with plants. Mosaic will also be a great decor option. It can decorate a border or use it to create a panel on one of the walls.

If your choice is an Italian Mediterranean style bathroom, then choose terracotta color and various shades of beige and brown. It will be interesting to look at the combination of light natural stone and wood. An unusual solution would be to finish the “stone” walls with wicker wallpaper in the lower part.

Nursery (Mediterranean style)

Want your little one to spend time indoors with a light and comfortable design? Then a nursery may be suitable for you, for the design of which a Mediterranean style has been chosen in the interior.

Let's say right away that if you are not ready to refuse to use images of Winnie the Pooh, Transformers and other heroes of modern cartoons in the decoration. Well, they do not fit into the interior of the living room in a Mediterranean style.

For its arrangement, choose the blue decoration of the walls and ceiling. Against its background, white furniture will look great. In particular, choose a wooden bed painted white and decorate it with a translucent canopy.

To finish the floor, a light laminate is suitable, on which you can lay a white and blue, striped carpet.

Roman blinds are suitable for window decoration. They reach up to the windowsill, which makes these models a practical choice for families where the children are still quite small.

characteristic features of the style.

To create a harmonious interior design in the Mediterranean style, natural materials are used: natural stone, natural marble and wood. This makes it possible to create light and environmentally friendly.

  • coral;
  • red;
  • pink;
  • cream;
  • mustard color;
  • ocher shades;
  • brick red.

But in the design of a Greek house in the Mediterranean style, a cold color scheme is characteristic, in which such colors and shades are most often used:

Finishing features.

The Mediterranean style in the interior in each country has its own characteristics associated with local traditions. So, in Greece, walls and ceilings are preferred to be painted with white water-based paint. In this case, the walls are not necessarily aligned to a perfectly smooth state, and often remain uneven. Therefore, the finish gives a rough feeling, but at the same time looks very natural.

Wooden beams can often be seen on the ceiling. They are not painted, but only opened with a transparent varnish, which protects the wood from damage and fungal infections. A similar ceiling finish can be found in many styles - in particular, in and in the design of a chalet house.

For the interior of an Italian house or apartment, interior decoration has slightly different features. The walls are finished with materials of different textures, creating separate zones. Luxurious panels of mosaic tiles can flaunt on the walls in the room. Another option for decorating walls is or painting on the walls, imitating frescoes.

The most commonly used flooring is tiles. The image of scenes from ancient Greek mythology, laid out with the help of marble mosaics, can give a special sophistication to the room. But in this case, it should immediately be noted that such mosaic paintings look best on the floor in large rooms. In small rooms, using mosaics on the floor, you can lay out stylized Greek ornaments.

Very popular in the Mediterranean style are mats woven from reeds or algae. They are covered with tiles to avoid slipping on its smooth and glossy surface. In addition, they bring into the room an atmosphere of environmental friendliness and emphasize the proximity to nature.

In addition to tiles, natural wood can also be considered as a floor covering. However, its color should be neutral, not too bright, so as not to distract attention.

Bedroom design.

The traditional interior design of the bedroom in the Mediterranean style implies a minimum number of furnishings and decorative elements. The main design idea is to leave as much free space, space and air in the room as possible.

Of the pieces of furniture, only the most necessary are used - a large comfortable bed, a bedside table near the bed and a wardrobe for storing linen. In Greece, a small sideboard is sometimes placed in the bedroom for various souvenirs, figurines, trinkets and gizmos dear to the heart.

Alternatively, the bedroom can also accommodate a chest of drawers instead of a wardrobe, as well as a small coffee table and comfortable chairs. Also suitable for decorating a bedroom in the Greek version of the Mediterranean style, or made of natural pine wood.

Bedroom furniture items are in light, delicate, pastel colors. The main shades for furniture can be called the following:

  • White color;
  • milky shade;
  • caramel color;
  • beige color;
  • pearl gray;
  • cream.

The Italian version of the style is characterized by wrought iron furniture with wooden seats.

In addition to a large amount of furniture designed for seating guests, the living room can have a bookcase for various small items and souvenirs, oak bookshelves, and a low coffee table. In this case, most of the space of the room should be free.

Particular attention should be paid to bathroom lighting. For this purpose, recessed ceiling lights are most often chosen. With their light diffused light, they illuminate only certain areas - a mirror, a sink and a bathroom. In all separate zones, a pleasant soft twilight reigns, which does not tire the eyesight.

Kitchen interier.

Designing a Mediterranean-style kitchen is perhaps the most important task of the whole style. Greece and Italy have always been famous for their gourmet cuisine, so housewives spend most of their time in the kitchen. This means that the room should be spacious and comfortable, and every detail should be thought out in its layout.
