In order to obtain parts from such plastic, the main method is used - molding plastics at home into molds. When solidified, the plastic will acquire a fairly high strength with good machinability, i.e. it is not difficult to drill, saw, process with an abrasive tool or file.

You can make plastic in a different way. It is necessary to mix small wood sawdust with ground talc in a ratio of 5: 2 and pour it with wood glue prepared in advance. The glue should have the consistency of thick sour cream. The resulting mixture must be stirred so as to obtain a pasty state. It would be reasonable to introduce into the mixture 1/2 mass part of aluminum potassium or aluminum alum, which provides protection from mold and natural drying oil, which provides an increase in plasticity. Phenol-formaldehyde plastic is also easy to make at home. It is necessary to take crystalline (phenol) hydroxybenzene or analogues and an aqueous solution of 40% formalin. Concentrated carbolic acid is quite capable of replacing phenol. It is necessary to mix crystalline phenol (20g) with formalin (30g) by adding concentrated hydrochloric acid (30 drops). Instead of phenol, carbolic acid (40 ml) can be used. The mixture should spontaneously heat up and boil, and the consistency will become glassy and viscous. The resulting mass must be poured into the mold for 30 minutes, after which the mixture in the mold is immersed in boiling water for 10-15 minutes. Then you can take the product out of the mold. The resin obtained in this way is a thermosetting plastic with a reddish color, which is hard and strong. From it, it is allowed to manufacture parts that are supposed to be subjected to significant loads.

Therefore, there were recipes for preparing such a plastic mass at home from ingredients that are quite simple to buy. But you must very carefully observe the proportions and take those components that are listed - do everything strictly according to the recipe.

I will give an example of one recipe that I found on the Internet and which has photos of the stages of work, which simplifies the work. The accompanying text was in a foreign language, so I had to translate it and supplement it with my own comments.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup (250 gr.) white PVA glue,
  • 1 cup (250 gr.) cornstarch,
  • 1 tablespoon of vaseline
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice,
  • 1 tablespoon hand cream (non-greasy and silicone-free).
From this amount you will get about 350 gr. white plastic mass.
Tableware:
  • Mixing bowl - glass refractory,
  • plastic spatula,
  • Substrate for rolling mass,
  • Mixing spoon,
  • A piece of plastic wrap.

Stages of work:

1. Pour into a fireproof bowl

Mix everything very thoroughly with a spoon.


2. Then add

lemon juice

(or like, as in the photo) and stir everything until a plastic homogeneous mass is obtained.


3. Put the bowl in the microwave for 1 minute - maximum power. Stir well after the first 30 seconds. Hold for a second 30 seconds and remove from the microwave.


4. Spread the hand cream on the surface, on which you will then spread the mass from the bowl.


5. Take a bowl of mass.

Remove the false hardened crust from the surface

(it formed there) and throw it away. We only need plastic mass.


6. The rest of the mass fell out onto a table smeared with cream.


7. Now we knead the mass, as usual knead the dough. Using a spatula, scrape everything from the surface. Knead vigorously for 5 minutes until soft and pliable.


8. At the end, we give the dough the shape of a thick sausage. We put the sausage on the fabric - it should enter the excess moisture.

9. When the dough is completely cool, wrap it in plastic wrap. The plastic mass is ready to go.


IMPORTANT! Store the finished mass in the refrigerator, in a plastic container with a tight lid!
You can make colored plastic.

For coloring you can use:

aniline fabric dyes, oil paints, food coloring

Do not put a lot of paint at once, it is better to add it in portions, gradually, mixing. Each portion of colored plastic should be kept separately wrapped in a plastic bag - they should all be placed in a plastic container with a tight lid - kept in the refrigerator.


TIPS for working with plastic:
  1. If you are using a small piece of plastic in your work, cut it off from the main briquette. Put the briquette back in the refrigerator. Cut off a piece, either use immediately to work, or put in a glass jar and close the lid until you use it. In the air, the mass dries quickly.
  2. It is better to work with plastic on a special plastic substrate, to which it will not stick.
  3. Tools and the substrate must be constantly cleaned so that crumbs or pieces of mass do not fall on the product.
  4. If you need to glue some parts of the product, you can do this with PVA glue.
