Alteration of IKEA furniture. Decoration and decoration of furniture from IKEA do-it-yourself photo. chest of drawers “FIRA” from Ikea and its immediate family

Every mother wants the best for her newborn. And this also applies to the design of the room. However, in the current conditions, children's furniture, comfortable and even beautiful, is not a cheap pleasure. So mothers on maternity leave take up the alteration of either the old or the simplest pieces of furniture for the nursery.

What does it cost to repaint a children's dresser from IKEA? The main thing is the head in the right place and the hands growing from where it should be. And the material for alteration can be found in any hardware store.

Need a chest of drawers for a kid's room? No problem. If you walk into a children's room furniture store, you'll be quite upset by the price they offer. Special children's chests of drawers cost from 40 thousand rubles.

At the same time, on the Internet you can find a huge number of colored chests of drawers that are made by hand. This is how I solved the problem of acquiring a children's chest of drawers. It makes no sense to buy an expensive chest of drawers, because over time the child will grow up and draw on it. In addition, a small child does not care about a chest of drawers. The main thing is that you like the chest of drawers, be comfortable, serve as decoration and addition to the children's room.

An excellent option would be either an old chest of drawers, or a modern and budget option. My husband and I bought a simple white chest of drawers for a children's room for 11 thousand rubles at IKEA and decided to partially repaint it.

So, decorating the chest of drawers did not take us so much time and effort, from the materials it took a brush, a can of acrylic paint for 450 rubles and two pens from the Zara Home store for 700 rubles.

At first we thought about making a drawing on the chest of drawers with the help of special stickers, but nothing came of this idea, since the paint flowed behind the stickers, and as a result, the drawing looked sloppy. Just in case, I am attaching photos and I advise you, if you want to apply a drawing, use a stencil or draw an image by hand.

It is always nice to equip your personal space with your own hands. Things seem to acquire a soul, come to life before our eyes and delight you every day. To top it all off, such an item completes the exclusive range with its existence. After all, the second one is unlikely to be found anywhere else. AT IKEA catalog it is quite possible to choose the basis for your creativity.

In today's alteration, it is perhaps the most popular and simplest thing from IKEA for the implementation of creative ideas - chest of drawers RAST. For alteration we need:

  • chest of drawers RAST(62x30x70 cm);
  • material for finishing;
  • polyacrylic varnish;
  • decorative nails, pens.
  • blade, brush, screwdriver, hammer.

The demand for the RAST chest of drawers for reincarnations is explained by its affordability and versatility. It is ideal for both use as bedside table, and a stand-alone chest of drawers. This piece of furniture is made from raw tree, which allows to carry out a fairly wide range of finishing works on it: from ordinary painting to gluing with various materials.

We begin our alteration with the fact that the finishing material, and in our case it is linen grey, starched. This is done in order to the cloth became slightly harsh, and when attaching it to the chest of drawers, there were no extra and ugly folds that could spoil the appearance. Then we cover the basis of our alteration with a layer of varnish. It is recommended to do this in disassembled form. So we will be able to maximally process the surface, and therefore fix the finishing fabric on it. base covered with varnish, leave to dry for a while. It is important to ensure that the varnish does not dry completely. On a slightly damp coating, we begin to attach the finishing material. It can be of any texture and color, depending on your wishes and what is already available. interior.

The most difficult moment in the pasting process is the processing of corners. A sharp blade will make your job much easier. Then glued parts chest of drawers, put together. Now that the RAST is assembled and pasted over, you can proceed to the stage of finishing work. On three of its drawers we fix handles, and around the perimeter - nails with wide decorative caps that will give expressiveness to the chest of drawers. At the final stage, we recommend treating the material with which the chest of drawers is covered with varnish. This will protect it from external influences and add a few more years to its service life.

For the bedroom of this apartment in Zamoskvorechye, designer Vera Vasilenko designed a special dressing table. However, it was too expensive to make it to order. Then the author of the project took a table and a chest of drawers from IKEA, combined them into one design, added a glass table top and graceful handles uniting the ensemble. As a result, I got about what I originally intended, but five times cheaper.

And this long chest of drawers in the living room is assembled from two IKEA modules of the BESTO series, which was installed on a copper-colored platform from a furniture board. The role of the legs is performed by balusters (also copper-colored), and sheets of plywood serve as doors.

“Build on” a new element

If a simple "MALM" from IKEA looks boring, complement it with a bright "distracting" element. Like, for example, the green console in the bedroom in the photo. It seems that this is a single design, but do not believe your eyes: the designers came up with the console themselves and ordered it from carpenters.

Pens off

It would seem that this is one of the most “hackneyed” tricks to revive interiors with IKEA furniture: replacing regular furniture handles with new, non-standard ones. That's what it's worth hunting at flea markets while in Europe. But even in ordinary furniture stores there is something to choose from. The owners wanted to repaint this HEMNES chest of drawers in the bedroom in the photo, but then they bought pens at the Zara home sale and realized that there was no need to change anything else.

And in this children's room, parents completed the HEMNES chest of drawers with handles bought at a bazaar in Israel. And immediately everything fell into place - the hand-painted on the wall, and the Dagestan carpet, and the scarlet IKEA chest of drawers.

Hand-made leather handles

Look at the smooth facade of "HEMNES" - how beautifully it was decorated with leather handles. You can make them yourself by cutting pieces from an old belt. Attrition will only benefit the handles. There is no belt - leather can be bought in needlework stores and sewing stores. Suitable material is used in the production of bags.

Tip: It is better to fasten the skin to the front wall of the drawer not with a screw, but with a furniture bolt - the nut will not allow you to pull out the handle.

Surface stickers

And again, an old friend - a chest of drawers "MALM" from IKEA, decorated with vinyl stickers with a classic ornament (meander). Wall stickers (furniture, refrigerators) are presented in assortment in online stores. They cost about 700 rubles for a strip of 100x30 cm. They do not need any additional protection, although some Old Believer masters cover any decor with transparent varnish. It doesn't make sense, but it doesn't get worse. It is much more important to carefully smooth the sticker during the gluing process so that there are no “bubbles”.

Tip: When the decor gets tired, it will be difficult to remove the vinyl sticker. You should not rub it with a rag - ruin the facade, you will need to restore the chest of drawers. Direct a hot jet of air from a hair dryer at the vinyl, and after a couple of minutes it will begin to move away. Traces are erased with anti-freeze or white spirit.

Stencil

To get the same ornament without any vinyl, you can paint the drawer fronts with a stencil and acrylic paint. Here we do not forget about the primer and varnish. You can order a stencil to be made or cut out yourself using a breadboard knife made of thick cardboard or plastic. If you need a "worn effect", you can use the print technology. For example, cut an ornament on a strip of linoleum, cleaning off those areas on a soft substrate where paint is not needed with a cutter. They applied paint to the carved silhouette - pressed it.

Sometimes you don’t even need a special stencil - mounting tape is enough (you close those fragments that should remain unpainted). And pay attention to the black edging around the perimeter of the chest of drawers.

With the help of painting the facades, you can give a three-dimensional look. We advise you to cut a cardboard stencil over the entire surface of the drawer and press it firmly against the front with masking tape.

Tip: The ornament is usually painted with acrylics, and the facades are completely covered with latex. If you need to leave the texture of wood, choose stains and glazing paints.

Repaint facades

See how LEKSVIK looks in mint tones against a lavender wall. It is not so easy to paint the entire chest of drawers (to be also spectacular). Before painting, the chest of drawers must be completely disassembled, the accessories removed from it. Unpainted solid wood furniture should be sanded with sandpaper - by hand or with a grinder. For wood coated with varnish or wax, stripping is required, otherwise the paint will not fall. If you have already tried to paint an IKEA chest of drawers, but unsuccessfully - nothing. Traces of old paint can also be removed with sandpaper or car wash.

The sanded surface must be primed. If the primer is neglected, the paint will take more and stains may come out. Up to three layers of paint are applied, depending on the degree of your joy. Each layer is sanded with fine sandpaper, the top is varnished. All materials are sold in building hypermarkets, needlework stores.

contrast method

Sometimes it’s more profitable not to touch the facades, but arrange the countertop and sidewalls in contrasting shades. A good example is this "HEMNES" in the photo.

Outside and inside

Designer Marina Grigoryan repainted this IKEA chest of drawers "LEKSVIK" in bright colors - both outside and inside. For accents in the project, gray-blue shades were chosen, so the standard light brown color did not fit in any way.

In different colors

Bedroom interiors with IKEA are not uncommon. Ana and Patrick Kamin's apartment in San Francisco is also full of Swedish-brand items, but they don't catch the eye. Instead of bedside tables, for example, RAST pine chests of drawers are used - the cheapest in the IKEA line. The hostess painted the fronts of the drawers in different colors, some up to half, to imitate more departments. The "female" chest of drawers is distinguished by pink shades, the "male" chest of drawers is distinguished by blue and white colors. Standard wooden handles have been replaced with new ones, of three different types - brass and ceramic.

In the same style as the "male" cabinet in the bedroom of the Kamin family, another Ikeev chest of drawers - "TARVA" is decorated. Only the lower facade of it is not of a woody texture, but of pale blue. So inspired by the ocean.

Gradient

The arrangement of drawers in several rows can be used for a more effective repainting of the chest of drawers. For example, apply the gradient method (also called "ombre"): a smooth transition from a darker shade to a lighter one.

You can use three shades of paint, and three types of self-adhesive film.

Pastel

A soft, but original sound is given by a combination of pastel tones, gray shades and the color of baked milk. The main thing is that the colors are sufficiently whitened, muted. Brightness will kill all this magical haze.

Walk around the circuit

It is not necessary to repaint the entire chest of drawers to fit it into the interior. For example, paint only the edges and the contours of the drawers in the color of the walls, as in the photo at the "LEKSVIK" chest of drawers. This technique allows you to keep the freshness of the white color in the setting and make the composition voluminous: the chest of drawers and the wall seem to fall into each other.

Shabby chic

Denis and Olga Miroshnichenko from Zvenigorod decided to make a bright nursery. The walls were painted in several colors, the LEKSVIK chest of drawers for six drawers was also supposed to be multi-colored. The owners made the main mistake of a beginner - they did not remove the stain and acrylic lacquer, which most of the Ikeev chests of drawers are covered with.

Acrylic paint was not absorbed into the wood, it had to be washed off - it turned out to be a "worn out" chest of drawers in the shabby chic style. The owners decided to leave everything like that.

Splashes and drips

Splashes, drops and streaks are a popular trend in interior design. Abstract flows and splashes look no worse than patterns on the wallpaper. This painting is very expressive, so it looks good in small areas.

The metal chest of drawers of the IKEA PS series in the photo echoes in color with the sofa, and in the manner of execution - with the main picture in the interior. You will repeat - choose enamel for metal. Water-based paints are better suited for decorating a wooden facade with splashes, and viscous, latex and oil paints are better for stains. The chest of drawers in the photo was decorated by the owners with green streaks with their own hands.

IKEA glam

Naomi Stein's loft apartment from Philadelphia is decorated in an eclectic style: modern, classic, and chinoiserie. On a light background, black details contrast brightly - unwired pipes, an oriental-style pedestal ... Stop! It reminds me of something... That's right, it's a pair of repainted "RAST" chests of drawers, ennobled with fittings and decorative corners for noble metal. Black color, glossy lacquer and gilded details create a completely non-Ikean style.

A shelf was made above the chests of drawers, inside which consoles and other TV equipment are hidden.

carnation numbers

Artist Tina Sindal from Norrköping, Sweden, did most of the furniture in the apartment with her own hands. Almost a feat, given that the whole setting is in the spirit of Art Deco. To make a chest of drawers a unique item, the artist decorated a low Ikea cabinet with ornate ornaments using furniture nails. Decorative carnations with round caps are used for furniture upholstery and fastening of back walls. Their mass of species - with and without relief, under brass, bronze, gold, etc. They cost - from 90 rubles for 50 pieces. Sold in building and furniture stores. The main thing is that the length of the nail does not exceed the thickness of the facade.

If you do not plant ornate patterns, then even a beginner can beat HEMNES around the perimeter with carnations.

Mirror facades

If the facades of the drawers are mirrored, even a large chest of drawers will not look like a "behemoth" in the interior. On the contrary, it will add light and volume. Order mirror panels in glass workshops. Immediately ask for the edges to be processed so that they are safe. Self-adhesive aluminum and copper foil can be used instead of mirrors. Sold in art and craft stores. It costs - from 500 rubles for 10 sheets of 20x30 cm. The one that was released for thermal insulation is also suitable, but still the mirror tile looks “richer”.

Dranks instead of handles + changing cover

Corina Schadendorff and Philipp Langenheim from Berlin decided to make a changing chest of drawers from the same TARVA model. They completely abandoned the handles, simply increasing the holes with a drill. Added a changing board on top. The top drawer of the chest of drawers was painted with acrylic enamel in a delicate turquoise color, and the rest of the chest of drawers, except for the middle drawer, was painted in a warm gray shade.

Lay parquet

If the painted facades look too cold, they can be covered with natural wood, or they can be completely replaced with a piece of panel parquet or boards. A wooden mosaic is also in trend, when the surface is pasted over with multi-colored dies or slats made from recycled wood. It is better to glue a tree on a chipboard with the help of wood glue or the one on which the parquet is laid.

Wallpaper

So that the interior with IKEA furniture does not look boring, in this project the IKEA facades were pasted over with the remnants of wallpaper, and the panel space, countertop and sidewalls were painted in the color of a rhombus on this wallpaper. Furniture immediately took on the appearance of an object with history.

What is important: You can not glue wallpaper on varnish and enamel. First you need to remove them with sandpaper. The varnish can also be scraped off with a spatula by heating with a building hair dryer. After cleaning, the chest of drawers must be sanded and primed. Wallpaper glue is also suitable, but PVA holds better. Washable wallpaper can not be varnished on top, but the rest is desirable. If you don't want a glossy finish, use a matte finish. The inside of a cabinet or chest of drawers can be pasted over to match the walls.

Translation for you

Decoupage paper is another alternative: any image can be transferred to the facade - a photo, a clipping from their magazine, etc. We apply a thin layer of gel medium (varnish, decoupage glue), put the photo on it with the front side and gently smooth it. We leave for 8-10 hours. Then we wet the paper with a wet sponge and erase it with our fingers. We polish: soft paraffin or varnish - at will. The best translations come from archival black and white photographs.

accent wall

If a chest of drawers ruins the look of an accent wall, just hide it under a similar finish. Use the remnants of the same wallpaper, Or, if you used other materials, imitate their pattern with paint. Mounting tape will help to achieve a neat joint.

hand painted

Decorator Oksana Panteleeva painted this RAST chest of drawers by hand. She first painted it white, then carbon-copied the sketch for each of the three facades, and then painted it with gray acrylic paint. If you are going to put a wooden chest of drawers in the bathroom, do not forget about the varnish.

Dress up chest of drawers

One of the most unusual transformations of the "TARVA" chest of drawers. Decorating with textiles is a separate area of occupational therapy. Countertops pasted over with Pavloposad shawls can deprive an impressionable person of sleep. But in the case of Ikea furniture, upholstery can work for the benefit of the interior. Textiles make any shape softer and cozier.

There are two ways to decorate a chest of drawers with a cloth - paste over and fit. In the first case, each surface is pasted over separately, the fabric is cut off with hem allowances. We apply PVA or wallpaper glue to the facade, iron the fabric over it, tuck it in, carefully closing the corners. The thinner the fabric, the more likely it will turn yellow over time - it will not be possible to wash it. Therefore, it is better to choose denser textiles, and protect the fabric from above with varnish. The second way is to cover the parts with fabric and secure from the inside with a stapler or wallpaper studs. You can even put a thin layer of foam rubber under the fabric - then the chest of drawers will not be recognized at all. It is better to use a special upholstery fabric.

Crackle

This chest of drawers "RAST" has changed not only in appearance, but also in height - the model was put on vintage legs. The owner of the chest of drawers, Christine, first covered the "carcass" with white paint, and the fronts of the drawers with yellow. However, the furniture looked too modern, so Kristin finished the yellow details using the crackle technique, only instead of real cracks she imitated “wrinkles” with glue and white slats.

However, the pattern can be simpler and more youthful than crackle. A simple diagonal layout is enough, like the IKEA shoe rack in the photo.

Together

This cute IKEA chest of drawers in the hallway of a young family from St. Petersburg is covered with paintings, completed with panels and accessories, painted somewhere, and aged somewhere.

Another combo option: multi-colored drawers, eclectic fittings, chest of drawer decor frames and a spectacular rope handle. The latter are sold in many interior stores. Do not overpay: drill holes for the diameter of the rope, thread it in and fix it with knots from the inside. A jute rope costs from 40 rubles per meter.

See the chest of drawers? And he is!

Perhaps the most skillful way to hide an IKEA chest of drawers in the interior is in the photo. The owners built it into a large vintage wardrobe - not so much for aesthetic reasons, but for better organization of space. The closet was still too wide for the stairs in the entrance. It had to be disassembled and reassembled already in the apartment.

Hello again everyone.
I wanted something simple, light and not glossy in the room under the TV. Inspired by the Internet, I already persuaded my husband to start another mess in the form of a small carpentry shop, but life once again made its own adjustments, and everything had to be postponed for almost a year. And with the forthcoming appearance of a new family member, the question of storing things also arose. We needed small shallow boxes. It's just that with the first cub we had a chest of drawers with huge drawers. And the search for things turned into a search for treasures.

Well, where there is one alteration, there is another.
I came across on the World Wide Web on alterations of RAST chests of drawers. We decided at the family council that for us this is what we need. We needed 4 of them. Something remained after the repair, something was bought in LEROY and away we go ... The quality of workmanship is really a little lame.

So, something like a console for TV.
Two chests of drawers were connected by a furniture board. Ideally, the countertop should be thicker, but better quality. From the top bar made a shelf. They tried it on under an ottoman (which will also someday get a decent look).

But in the end, it was raised so that it was possible to use the surface for writing.
Planks were glued to the doors.

Everything was sanded and covered with white water-based enamel and varnish. The insides of the drawers were only varnished to protect the wood.

The resulting gaps were closed with sawn planks. And here is the result

For a children's chest of drawers, two frames were assembled, put one on top of the other and fastened together with metal strips. The resulting cracks on the side slats I puttied. But, perhaps, the hands are still a little crooked. After some time, cracks appeared there. I had to tint.

An additional drawer was made from the bottom bar of the second chest of drawers. It turned out somehow

For delivery, they also built a kind of pedestal
