Clay bf 2 pros and cons. What are the types of glue? Epoxy glue and BF glue: full description. Do you know that

Glue brand "BF" (butyralphenol) was released for bonding all kinds of materials. Since 1946, this agent has been used for bonding stainless steel plates, non-ferrous metal objects, as well as for repairing and bonding metal objects with non-metals. The glue is a transparent viscous thick liquid of various shades from brown to yellow. The advantages of glue include the fact that it is not subject to rotting and corrosion, to a lesser extent, but still resistant to acetone, alcohol and alkaline environments.

There are several types of "BF-2" and "BF-4" used mainly for fixing earthenware, porcelain, glass and various metals. Means "BF-6" is used for gluing flexible materials, fabrics, and is also used in medical practice. Types of glue "BF" have different concentrations of the chemical component of polyvinyl butyral. Means "BF-2" contains 2%, "BF-4" - 4% and "BF-6", respectively, 6% of this substance

Glue "BF" medical in its composition differs from others in that it is an alcohol solution, complete with softeners and plasticizers. Medical glue is widely used when gluing various tissues together, as well as tissues with other materials (cardboard, paper). In the manufacture of parachutes, parachute sectors are fastened with this tool. It is also indispensable for the repair of carpets, clothing, curtains, curtains and other flexible items.

Due to its alcohol base, medical glue is used as an adhesive. Its use in surgical practice contributes to the rapid

Applied to the wound surface, this drug creates a thin protective film under which the death of pathogens occurs and which is a reliable barrier that prevents their re-penetration into the wound.

It forms on the surface of the wound within two to three minutes after applying the adhesive and can persist for several days.

At the same time, the medical adhesive forms an adhesive film that does not hinder the movement of the tissue, does not violate its elasticity and does not interfere with flexibility.

If "BF-6" means are used, medical dressings are carried out after 2-3 days and consist in a new application of glue to the wound surface. In the event that the protective film is damaged, it is enough to use the medical glue again to create a new elastic layer, and the wound is again under the antiseptic protective film.

Glue "BF-6" was widely used by dentists. Root canals covered with a medical preparation are isolated from the contact effect of decomposing tissues.

The only and main contraindication to the use of "BF-6" in medicine can be the individual hypersensitivity of the patient's body. In addition, experts warn against the use of adhesive dressings in the treatment of children under the age of one year.

The adhesive can be used in veterinary practice, in cosmetic surgery, as well as in the treatment of minor injuries.

Glue BF-2 phenol polyvinyl acetate glues non-metallic surfaces, stainless steel and non-ferrous metals well. Approved for operation in the range -60С…+80С. Does not rot, does not corrode, is resistant to chemical acids, gasoline and oils. It has a yellow tint and a thick consistency. It is not used for gluing dishes, but it is allowed to work with plastic, glass, faience surfaces.

Glue BF-4 gives a less durable, but more elastic seam, therefore it is used for gluing parts subjected to vibration. Suitable for operation in low-temperature conditions, alkaline environments. With its help, copper, steel, alloys, wood, plexiglass, ceramics are glued together.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USEGLUE BF-2 , BF-4

1. The surfaces to be bonded must be sanded to a uniform
roughness and degreased. Remove corundum residues with a rag, do not
leaving fibers.

2. Glue is applied to both surfaces to be glued evenly
layer, avoiding streaks and ungreased places (can be applied with a brush,
dipping). The first layer of glue is allowed to dry for 40-60 minutes.

3. Apply a second layer, observing the precautions in paragraph 2.
The second layer is dried for 45-55 minutes. Bonding surfaces
combine, clamp into a clamp that provides a force of at least 4.5
kgf/cm2 and placed in an oven.

4. Curing is carried out for 1 hour at a temperature of 180 °C. Time
curing is calculated from the moment the part is warmed up to the specified
temperature. The curing temperature is controlled from a distance
more than 1 cm from the part. At the end of curing, the heating of the oven is turned off and the cabinet is left
for natural cooling without removing parts. In some cases
it is possible to extract the part.

"HOT" method of gluing with BF-4 glue: For metals, ceramics, glass, wood: clean and degrease the surfaces to be bonded. Then apply an even layer of glue on them and dry for 1 hour. After that, the parts are tightly compressed, kept at a temperature of 130–140 ° C for at least 40 minutes and slowly cooled to room temperature. For fabrics: Moisten fabrics with water and wring out. Apply a thin layer of glue, dry for 1 hour, combine and carefully iron with an iron through a thin cloth. The product can be used after 5 hours.

"COLD" bonding method:
Carefully clean and degrease the surfaces to be glued, apply an even layer of glue on them. After 15-20 minutes, apply a second layer and press firmly after 1-2 minutes. The product can be used within a day.

How to remove BF glue

Often when working with BF adhesives, it happens that the composition gets on clothes, objects, skin. Then there is a need to carefully and without traces to remove its remnants. If the composition got on the plastic, use ordinary medical alcohol. Wet a hard sponge in it and wipe the contaminated area. After another twenty minutes, it remains to process the surface again, there should not be a trace of glue left.

A solvent will help remove BF from clothes. A swab is moistened in it and the stain is gently treated. In order not to damage the fabric, you should first test on the back of the product and make sure that the solvent does not damage the pattern or texture of the fabric.

Thermosetting one-component polymerizable adhesive, which is a phenol-formaldehyde resin and polyvinyl acetal or polyvinyl butyral dissolved in ethyl alcohol, acetone or chloroform.

Purpose:

glue BF 2 - it is permissible to use glue as a simple drying glue. After hot polymerization creates a low-elastic seam with heat resistance up to 180°C.

Glue BF 2 is used for gluing metal with non-ferrous metals, stainless steel, non-metals: glue BF 2 glues plastics, wood, glass, ceramics, leather. They are distinguished by good electrical insulating properties, moisture and heat resistance of the adhesive seam. Glue BF-2 is stable in acidic environments even when heated to 60-80°C.

Colour: reddish.

Instructions for use:

BF 2 glue is applied to a previously prepared surface - surfaces made of aluminum alloys are cleaned with sandpaper with a grain size of 16 or 20; steel - 63 or 80.

Then the surfaces are degreased with gasoline or acetone, followed by drying for 10-15 minutes. at a temperature of 15-35°C.

After re-treatment of the surface with acetone, ethyl acetate or ethyl alcohol, drying is carried out for 5 minutes at a temperature of 15-35°C.

The glue is applied with a brush, aged in air "until tacky" for 30-60 minutes, then in a drying chamber at 55-60°C for 15 minutes and cooled in air to room temperature.

The algorithm is repeated, but in this case, the temperature in the drying chamber is increased to 85-90°C without removing the substrates, they are kept at this temperature for 50-60 minutes.

After removing the product from the drying chamber and cool to room temperature. Then the parts are glued and loaded in a press so that the specific gluing pressure is 5-6 kgf/cm².

The loaded samples are placed in a drying chamber heated to 150 ± 5°C and the glued joint is kept for 1 hour.

After that, the heating is turned off, the loaded glued joint is cooled in the drying chamber to 50-40°C, removed from the drying chamber and unloaded.

Warranty period of storage:

10 months from the date of manufacture in sealed packaging at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.

Specifications:

conditional viscosity according to the VZ-246 viscometer at a temperature of 20 o C - 25-55; operating temperature - 60-80°C; dry residue content - 14-17%; tensile strength of the adhesive joint in shear, not less than - 19.6 MPa (200 kgf / cm²); bending of the adhesive film after curing, no more than 3 mm.

Security measures: BF 2 glue is flammable!

The well-known phrase “break - do not build” will be quite comparable with “do - do not repair”. In the manufacture of the performer "on hand" the technology of work, developed by specialists, and without fail tested. There is also a list of all the necessary tools and fixtures. And the repairman, by and large, "behind the soul" has only one experience. This refers to a generalist repairman who takes on any or almost any repair, and not the one who sits on some kind of operation. A great help in the repair, as a universal tool and universal material for repairs. Like good glue.

For a long time, in the literal sense of the word, he hung around in search of "his" glue. In the background, the photo is only a small fraction of what I tried. No words epoxy glue is good, but this process of mixing the components immediately before gluing (especially with a meager amount of work) completely deprives it of mobility of use.

The meanest representative of the adhesive brotherhood is tubes with a catchy logo moment - filled with adhesive now not even half - a third. Despite its external attractive rounded plumpness, it is enough for one, maximum two times, and not even because it is not enough, but because everything unused simply dries up, because there is two-thirds of the air inside.

Glue from the “second” line used to be not bad and not expensive, but it used to be, besides, it is the most untidy - where you smeared it and stayed, you can’t tear it off without consequences. Adhesive for ceiling foam tiles "master" is only suitable for non-critical work.

There is also an adhesive thermal gun, but this is where much great accuracy is not needed, where you need something to something, excuse me, to stick. I’m generally silent about the clerical one - “his number is seventeenth.”

And in the radio store my eyes saw the good old glue brand BF. Specifically, BF-2 and BF4 are 95 rubles each for a plastic bottle with a capacity of 100 milliliters (80 grams).

BF glue is a phenol-formaldehyde resin with an additive that is dissolved in ethyl alcohol or acetone. The number after the letters "BF" means the content of the additive. With an increase in the number of additives, the elasticity of the seam increases, but, alas, the strength decreases.

I tested it on an element of electrical fittings (fastening the lampshade of a floor lamp) from it is not clear what kind of plastic produced long before the restructuring. The “second” glue “didn’t take it”, but BF-2 for a sweet soul (I glued the fasteners according to all the instructions and dried it for 24 hours clamped in a vise).

The next step was to mount the radio pocket. Two types of dissimilar plastic were glued together. Good luck.

At the same time, as if on purpose, the lid once again slipped onto the table from the teapot and split in half (before that, it fell regularly and was intact). Glue coped with ceramics. Only if you look closely you can see a slightly noticeable trace of the split.

But glue helped out the most in the case of a cracked chandelier shade (he bored holes for European standard electric cartridges). The bonding material is glass. This is how many interesting things I could hear about myself and my repair abilities, if it were not possible to glue the ceiling that fell apart into three pieces. The whole chandelier would have to be thrown away. There are no ceiling lamps for sale separately, neither of these, nor any others. And so only a small trace remained, the chandelier functions and pleases the eye, as if nothing had happened. And only you and I know about this secret))

Finally, the miniature spoon was repaired. Material 925 sterling silver. It would be necessary to take it to a jeweler, the price of the issue is only 500 rubles, and the owner, a young, slightly sentimental lady, did not want to give a very personal thing into the wrong hands. I picked up a gold-colored tube as a connecting element, slightly tinned it in places (now it “does not spoil the track” in the general palette of once gilded silver) and filled it with glue.

On what the soul calmed down: he did so much and the glue in the bottle almost did not decrease. Enough for a long time. A little disappointing is that the expiration date expired a month after purchase. But I think this is not essential, with a year old it can still be used without problems. Glue is convenient in that when gluing, you can take your time and do everything carefully (correct the parts to be glued, remove the excess without leaving a trace). And what dries for a long time - so holds strong. The author of the material: Babay iz Barnaula.

Discuss the article APPLICATION OF BF-2 GLUE DURING REPAIR

The manufacture of BF-2 glue is based on phenol polyvinyl acetate. An adhesive solution of this type was created in the USSR in the 60s of the XX century. The solution is a high-viscosity liquid, which is notable for its low density, does not have a pronounced shade, and has an unpleasant chemical odor. Glue BF-2 can be used to connect surfaces made of metal, marble, polymeric materials, wood, glass.

Important! The product is presented in the form of a one-component thermosetting composition with fast polymerization.

Technological and technical characteristics in the description of BF-2 glue indicate that when using this adhesive mixture, a seam of low elasticity is formed.

At the same time, it is resistant to high temperatures (up to 200 ° C).

The working properties of products of this type also include:

  • Connection strength level under shear loads: 19.5-20 MPa.
  • Curvature of the adhesive line after full curing: no more than 3 mm.
  • The degree of viscosity at 20-25 about C: about 30-50 Pa·s.
  • Dry residue percentage: no more than 17%.

An increase in the degree of viscosity of BF-2 adhesive is observed if storage is carried out at sub-zero temperatures.

Important! Immediately before use, the mixture must be warmed up to 20-25 ° C (warming up should occur naturally in a warm room; forced heating is prohibited).

The product has a high level of resistance to the negative effects of chemicals, non-aggressive liquids, fungi, mold. Also, common solvents do not affect it in any way: gasoline, acetone, alkali, alcohol and liquids based on them. Due to this, the products have a wide range of applications, ranging from simple household bonding work to the medical dental field.

For the production of products, manufacturers use GOST 12172-74. BF-2 glue is produced from phenol-formaldehyde resin substances with the obligatory addition of polyvinyl butyral or polyvinacetal. No other components are included in the composition of the adhesive solution. Due to this composition, there are practically no analogues of this product on the Russian market, because other manufacturers do not use these components in the production of adhesive solutions.

Scope of use

Instructions for the use of BF-2 glue provide that the solution should be used to connect products and materials that do not move during operation and are not subject to any dynamic type loads.

Important! Glue BF-2 can be used if the product to be glued is motionless. Otherwise, the glue line will be deformed, because. after curing, it has minimal elasticity.

The use and application of BF-2 glue is allowed for joining materials:

  • metal.
  • Marble.
  • Tiled.
  • Glass.
  • Ceramic granite.
  • Wooden.
  • Polymer.
  • Ceramic, etc.

Glue BF-2 can be used for gluing two products from different materials (for example, plastic and wood, glass and ceramics).

Important! The instructions for the action and operation of BF-2 glue say that the composition must be applied in 2 layers, which will ensure a high level of bonding of materials.

Glue BF-2 and BF-4 during the Soviet era were used in cases where various radio devices and acoustic equipment were being repaired. An adhesive composition of this type, in theory, can be used as a paint and varnish material or impregnation for surfaces that are restored or restored.

Instructions for use

  1. It is necessary to prepare the surfaces to be glued before work. Surfaces are recommended to be pre-sanded to increase adhesion, degrease, remove oil stains, dirt, dust.
  2. Glue BF-2 must be applied to both surfaces to be joined. The application must be carried out in the thinnest possible layer, which must be evenly distributed over the joint area of the parts. You can apply the mixture with a brush or any other suitable tool at hand.
  3. As soon as the first layer of BF-2 or BF-4 glue hardens, it is necessary to apply the second layer using the same technology.

If a cold bonding method is used to connect the surfaces, then immediately after the second layer has been applied, the products must be joined to each other. If possible, then the surfaces must be pressed with a vice so that the connection is tight and one-piece.

Important! The process of curing the seam will take about 1-2 days. Only after the expiration of this period can you start using the glued parts.

In the event that BF-2 glue gets on the skin, the composition should simply be washed off with warm running water. No additional processing is required, because many adhesive solutions of this series are used for medical purposes, therefore they are not toxic and are not capable of harming human health.

Features of transportation and storage

You can store BF-2 and other adhesives of this series in containers and containers that are 100% closed and sealed. Storage should be carried out in rooms where the likelihood of open flames and ignition is minimized.

Transportation of trains of this type can be carried out by different modes of transport: rail, road, air, etc. Transportation is allowed to be carried out at negative air temperatures.

Keep BF-2 glue away from children, in a dark and dry place. It is not allowed to store the adhesive composition outside the factory packaging.

BF-2 glue analogues

There are no analogues of BF-2 glue on the domestic market in specialized stores. Adhesive mixtures with such a composition are simply not on sale now. This is due to the fact that modern manufacturers simply do not use phenol-formaldehyde resin. This is a truly unique adhesive solution.

As an alternative, many experts are considering the product "Supercement", which has similar working properties and scope. At the same time, "Supercement" is inferior to BF-2 adhesive in terms of adhesion, strength of the resulting seam and many other performance characteristics (especially if metal products and parts are bonded).

If there is no desire to use BF-2 glue or it was not possible to find it on sale, then as an alternative, you can use any adhesive solutions created on the basis of epoxy resin. Epoxy adhesives will do a good job with the same tasks that are set for BF-2 glue. However, epoxy resin solutions are more toxic and less safe to use, so strict precautions must be taken when using them.

Varieties

The BF series contains a lot of adhesive compositions that were manufactured in the USSR and continue to be produced in Russia at several enterprises. The series includes the following products, in addition to BF-2:

  • BF-4. It is used to connect highly elastic materials, which during operation will be bent and subjected to vibration loads. Scope of application: metal, wood, leather products, surfaces made of textolite, plexiglass, etc. It is used for the production of getinaks.

  • BF-6. It is applied to connection of flexible products and details (leather, textile). It is actively used in the medical field (in dentistry).

  • BF-19. Can be used for hot joining of glass, ceramic, wood, textile and metal products. For cold bonding of: paper, rubber, cardboard, polymer, fabric, leather items. It has increased toxicity, therefore it cannot be used in the field of medicine.

  • BF-88. It is applied to connection of non-metallic and metal products. It is used in the medical field for sealing large wounds. Non-toxic. Resistant to moisture, temperature changes. It ignites on direct exposure to an open flame.
  • BF-2n, BF-4n. Limited scope - only products and parts made of ferrous metals.

All types of BF glue that can be used for medical purposes are usually sold in pharmacies or specialized medical stores. It is almost impossible to find them in hardware and construction stores. It is recommended to buy BF glue only at large specialized points of sale. If the mixture is intended to be used for medical purposes, then it is necessary to make sure that the composition is genuine and safe to use.
