Decorative brick tiles. Interior decorative brick finish Decorative brick for wall decoration in an apartment

Many people tend to think that using decorative brick for interior decoration is not worth it, as the design will look cold, rough and unfinished. It is difficult to agree with such an opinion, because the facing material can play in contrast with the main decor of the room, or become an integral part of it.

The benefits of a rough finish

The effect of a raw wall can be regarded as an expressive accent, intricate decoration or historical value. With this technique, you can add uniqueness to the room, which will become attractive due to its imperfection.

Roughly finished walls go well with any style and at the same time have their own character. Let's apply an interesting move in a classic, Greek, mixed interior, as well as in a loft style.

Loftof design elements

In a modern interior, decorative brick decoration can be successfully combined with other textures and surfaces.

  • The most interesting solution in the decor of the room will be the use of simple square walls. The walls of the new building can be left virgin, slightly clearing them of construction debris and dust that remained after the completion of the rough work. If the house is old, then carefully treat the surfaces by removing layers of paint and plaster.

  • Decorative brick in the interior is distinguished by a variety of shapes, textures and colors. This option is used in repairs for finishing partitions, a fireplace, columns, niches with shelving or for laying out the active part of the wall. Use is possible in all rooms of the apartment, as it has long established itself as a durable, environmentally friendly and durable material of the correct shape with a variety of colors.
  • Glass is widely used in modern interiors. Glass blocks can be both frosted and transparent, with a lot of pretty shades. Glass decorative brick in the apartment helps to fill the room with light, no matter how dark it is. It is used not only in the decor of the living room, corridor or hallway, but also in the spectacular zoning of a separate room.

Interesting! For a small room, the partition, designed in the form of corrugated rectangles, plays the role of a design element and at the same time a solid screen.

  • The easiest and cheapest way to decorate an apartment with masonry will be ordinary wallpaper that imitates the loft style. This finishing option will provide naturalness to the decor and attract the attention of guests.

In which rooms will masonry be appropriate

Clinker, aged or facing bricks are appropriate to use in every part of the apartment. The main thing is a competent approach to the question posed so that the result becomes the highlight of your home and fits perfectly into the overall design.

  • Hallway. For this zone, tiles with destroyed edges will be most appropriate. Candles and figurines will look spectacular on the protruding elements. If the room does not bathe in the sun, then opt for a light-colored material.

  • Kitchen. Let your imagination run wild in this space. The rough laying of decorative bricks will look original surrounded by modern household appliances. With the help of this technique, it is really competent to zone the territory here, to highlight the dining area. In the kitchen, experiment with black, gray or white tones. Stone imitation tiles will also look beautiful. From artificial stone, you can build an island on which to hoist a countertop or hide appliances in niches. Raw masonry is ideal for an apron between wall cabinets and work surfaces. If there are no hanging cabinets, then the apron will successfully decorate the entire wall.

  • Living room. White decorative brick laid on the wall will be a beautiful backdrop for elegant furniture, accessories or appliances. To give the room coziness and warmth, arrange a fireplace using decorative gypsum bricks for its lining. Greek decor is complemented by columns or partitions. A gypsum or glass partition will be appropriate for successful zoning of space.

  • Bedroom. White colors will add charm to the interior, and if you are the owner of a studio or a two-level apartment, then you can put an arch in the bedchamber instead of a door. It's under the masonry. Looking at the photo, it is noticeable that Provence, country, Scandinavian or loft style are ideal options for combination.

  • Bathroom. The decorative stone is moisture resistant and does not lend itself to temperature changes. That is why the finish can be easily used in rooms with a high level of humidity. Due to their increased strength, glass blocks are used for laying the floor, using additional lighting and heating. If you lay a decorative brick on the wall, the decor of the bathroom will become much more spectacular.

Variety of styles

  • Loft. Wall decoration with decorative bricks is an integral element of this type of design. suggests the fact that it is the old walls that are the key detail in the design.
  • Scandinavian. A slight accent on the walls is allowed, but without contrasting transitions. Pay attention to the masonry, which will imitate a raw wall, made in light, gray and black colors.
  • Ethnic. The design with decorative bricks is able to enliven the interior, soften the industrial character of the room a little and get rid of excessive rigor in the apartment.

"50 Shades of Brick"

It is necessary to move away from the established opinion that the color of the material should be exclusively red. Combinations can be varied. In addition, such walls can be painted. For example, wine red, navy blue and burgundy tones will add romance to the bedroom with the glare of lamps or candles.

  • When painting, try not to flood the texture, the squares should be clearly visible.
  • White. More suitable for the Scandinavian theme, for the style of minimalism. It is acceptable to lay decorative bricks with subsequent staining to create a perception of pure color and give additional visual volume.
  • Beige. Refers to the classic style and is a classic.

  • Red from unbaked clay is characteristic of gothic or classic.
  • If you correctly select the squares of artificial stone, then as a result there will be no doubt that you have real material in front of you.
  • Laying methods are: block, path, gothic, cross, savage and Brandenburg. Every year eminent masters and designers release new collections.

Nuances to keep in mind

  • For a greater visual effect, the seams stand out in contrast;
  • the color of the finish should be combined with the general tones of the interior;
  • the surface of the product itself can be rough, smooth and embossed;
  • if this is a bathroom, then use an additional layer of impregnation on top.

price of brick walls

  • The cost of natural material depends on its characteristics, varieties and manufacturer (foreign models are more expensive). The price of the domestic analogue is approximately 12 rubles per piece, and thin plates - from 7 rubles.
  • Artificial stone is more expensive, and it goes on sale not by the piece, but by square meters, and its price directly depends on the country of origin and amounts to about 500 rubles / m².

Video: Types of brick wall decoration

The technology of using silicate bricks in the construction of houses has been known for hundreds of years. This material is famous for its reliability, durability and, as a result, the longevity of the buildings under construction. The amazing properties of the material, as well as its aesthetic appeal, prompted the creation of bricks for interior decoration. To date, brick walls have become a stylish, original decoration of many interiors.

Advantages and disadvantages of the material

It should be noted that the decorative brick has excellent technical characteristics, due to which it attracts more and more attention every year. The main advantages of the material include:

- Small thickness, which allows it to be used even in small rooms, for example, in the hallway;
- Excellent insulating performance regarding the preservation of heat in the room and low sound transmission;
- Decorative brick is made of materials that do not emit harmful substances, therefore, it is environmentally friendly;
- Easy to install - due to the light weight of the elements, they can be attached to the wall using a special adhesive;
- The material is easy to cut, which means that it is quite simple to decorate corners and joints with it.

The disadvantages of decorative bricks include low hygroscopicity and surface roughness. These indicators limit the use of finishes in some problem areas, for example, in the design of a kitchen apron.

Types of decorative bricks

The use of decorative bricks for cladding makes it possible to give the interior an individuality. In addition, the variety of types allows you to choose the material with which it will be convenient to work without the help of specialists, as well as the most suitable for the price and conditions of a particular room.

Clinker brick

Such a brick is made on the basis of ceramics (it is also called ceramic). It perfectly tolerates any conditions of humidity and pollution, is easy to clean, so it can be used in such specific areas as a bathroom or kitchen. It easily withstands temperature changes, making it suitable for cladding even unheated rooms.

Clinker bricks are characterized by maximum strength and practicality among other samples. The secret lies in the fact that at the production stage, the clay mass undergoes a tough double thermal hardening. The strength of the material is so great that it can be laid not only on wall, but also on floor surfaces. Another feature is the non-uniform color range, which is caused by firing at the final stage of production. This type is the most expensive material.

gypsum brick

Such a brick is distinguished by a simplified production process and, accordingly, lower cost. But this material is quite fragile, so its installation is not recommended in rooms where impact loads are possible. At the same time, gypsum bricks, if used correctly, will last for a long time, having special practicality and hygroscopicity. One of the varieties is cement brick, which is a more durable material that is not afraid of mechanical stress.

flexible brick

This type appeared on the market of finishing materials relatively recently. At its core, it is a decorative tile that has the unique ability to easily deform when heated (even from the warm stream of a hair dryer). Flexible tile becomes an indispensable material in the design of walls of complex configuration, with numerous ledges, arched ceilings, columns. In addition to these types, the role of brickwork can be performed by materials that imitate it, for example, PVC panels, wallpaper or tiles.

decorative brick color

In the assortment of most manufacturers of decorative bricks there are various color schemes of the material. Bricks can be white, gray, have a red or dark brown tint. The effect is achieved with the help of impurities in the raw materials of color additives. But, with all this diversity, the red brick still holds the leading position.

An artificially aged brick looks interesting, giving a special chic to the decorative finish. This design can be found in the styles of Provence, shabby chic, retro. If desired, in order to achieve an original effect, you can mix different types and form a canvas out of them.

Decorative brick in the interior is easy to paint by choosing a color that does not contradict the style. It should be noted that white masonry does not absorb light and contributes to the visual expansion of space. Gray gives dynamism to the setting, and black is the most daring solution inherent in loft interiors.

Styling features

As we have already said, it is quite possible to decorate the wall of a room with decorative bricks on your own, without resorting to the help of specialists. In this case, you need to familiarize yourself with some important points:

1. Bricks can only be laid on a leveled surface, previously cleaned and treated with a soil solution.

2. To make the drawing even, a building level is used during laying, which allows you to accurately set the elements.

3. The laying of decorative bricks involves its installation using special glue, which must be prepared according to the instructions.

4. If a brick-like tile is used as a material, it is necessary to first lay it out on the floor and form a pattern so that the same fragments are at a distance.

A day after laying, you can start processing the seams.

Ideas for interiors

When choosing a brick finish for decorating a particular interior, it is important to choose the right site, as well as the color of the material, which is best suited to the interior and furniture palette. Let us consider in more detail how to organize decorative brick decoration of different rooms.

Decorative brick in the living room

This is a special room in the apartment that requires a careful approach to design - after all, it is here that festive events will be held with friends and relatives, family gatherings. In newfangled interiors, you can often find the design of living rooms with an emphasis on brick walls. It is worth noting that the masonry itself is an excellent decorative element that does not require additional decorations. If desired, on a brick wall, you can arrange a gallery of family photos, a demonstration of artwork or posters.

You can choose any color of brick in the living room - the main thing is that it harmonizes with the interior. Thus, you can decorate one of the walls or individual sections. The decoration of the room will be a brick fireplace or a niche in the wall, creating a special atmosphere of comfort. If the living room is combined with the kitchen, a small brick wall serving as a zone separator would be a good option.

Decorative brick in the bedroom

Given the fact that the brick looks quite warm and attractive, it is perfect for decorating a bedroom. The material goes well with other types of cladding. Often, brickwork decorates the wall at the head of the bed or the one on which the television panel is installed. If the bedroom is narrow, and the bed is located with the back to a long wall, it is she who is decorated with bricks. This technique helps to visually move the wall, expand the room.

Decorative brick in the hallway

In small rooms of corridors, white decorative brick with a glossy surface will look best. Such a design will help increase the area, make the space more free, which is typical for modern minimalism, as well as the Scandinavian style.

Finishing with red brick is best done in fragments, decorating corner areas, sections at the joints of walls, arched zones and doorways in this way. Masonry can take part in the zoning of a spacious hallway.

Decorative brick in the kitchen

The kitchen room, even if it is quite spacious, is not recommended to be completely bricked, so that the basement interior does not turn out as a result. It is much better to use masonry as a link between different types of finishes. The determination of the wall where the brick will be located occurs according to the following principle: where natural light falls, there is a place for masonry. For a red brick wall that has the ability to absorb light, it is better to consider additional lighting.

Since the hygroscopicity of the material does not allow them to decorate an apron, here you can use imitating lining - PVC panels or brick-like tiles.

Decorative brick in the bathroom

The bathroom has a specific microclimate, and decorative brick is not the best option for cladding. In extreme cases, the masonry will need to be covered with agents that prevent the formation of mold, as well as antibacterial compounds.

From an aesthetic point of view, the combination of a rough surface of decorative bricks with snow-white sanitary ware has a very attractive look. Instead of brickwork in bathrooms, moisture-resistant wallpaper, tiles or plastic panels that imitate it are also used.

Bare brick walls give the room a gloomy and uninhabited look. However, today many choose just such a design, because it is concise, non-standard and makes it easy to select accessories.

To create the effect of bare walls, you can use:

  • wallpaper with a pattern of bricks;
  • special panels;
  • imitation of brickwork on wet plaster;
  • brick tiles;

Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each of the finishing material separately.

The most inexpensive and easiest material to install is wallpaper. To create with their help the effect of bare brick walls, it will take a minimum amount of time. These wallpapers are perfect for any style decision of the room.

If we talk about the advantages of this material, they are obvious:

  • their gluing does not require special experience in construction work;
  • when finishing, a minimum amount of debris and dirt remains;
  • calculation of the required amount of material can be done directly in the store;

  • the period of finishing work is extremely short;
  • there is no need to use special tools;
  • a large selection allows you to choose the best option at an affordable price.

Note! Textured non-woven wallpaper allows you to get the effect of real brickwork. However, a significant disadvantage of this material is the ability to accumulate dust and low water resistance.

On the Internet there are a large number of photos of brick wallpaper in combination with other materials.

Decorative wall panels

Brick-like panels for interior wall decoration are wear-resistant and highly resistant to moisture. They are actively used for exterior and interior finishing work.

Among the advantages are:

  • durability;
  • light weight;
  • long-lasting excellent appearance;
  • high soundproofing characteristics.

For the manufacture of panels, plastic is used, which is easily attached to the wall with screws or self-tapping screws. Due to the fact that each panel is mounted separately, in case of damage, it is easy to replace a single fragment.

Brick tiles for interior decoration

Indoors, facing brick tiles began to be used relatively recently. Prior to that, it was a material for outdoor finishing work. At first, the cost of the tile was quite high, and it did not feature a wide variety of design options. Gradually, the color range was expanded and various texture solutions were proposed.

Among the advantages of brick tiles, it is worth highlighting:

  • environmental cleanliness;
  • the ability to use with various materials (wood, plywood, metal, concrete, etc.);
  • durability;
  • good sound insulation;
  • high resistance to moisture.

Despite the large number of advantages, one should not forget about a number of significant disadvantages. Among them is the need to involve specialists in the work and the mandatory use of special materials. Not the last negative point of laying tiles is dirt, the need for preparatory work and a large amount of construction debris.

However, the design solutions obtained through its use will please the eyes of the owners for a long time and give the room an individuality.

Types and materials for making tiles

The building material used for interior finishing works is not exposed to intense sunlight, temperature extremes, high humidity, etc. However, this does not mean that it is worth inattentively and frivolously approaching his choice. This is due not only to the quality of the tile, but also to the features of its laying, which differ significantly from the laying of ordinary tiles.

Before dwelling on a specific type, it is necessary to answer the question of what is planned to be obtained as a result: a complete imitation or a fairly distant similarity? The answer to this question will allow you to choose the right one, which is produced in the form of one brick or several rows.

The latter option is easier to install, because it is large in size, and docking takes place according to the chess principle. In this case, the brick wall will differ from the usual texture, but this will allow you to get an unusual effect and give the room a unique look.

Note! When choosing the type of tile in the form of panels, it is necessary to remember the increased fragility in places where the seams are simulated.

It is worth noting that the choice of material from which it is made also has a significant impact on the strength of decorative tiles for bricks. For these purposes, clinker, ceramics, polymer cement or gypsum can be used. Each of the materials has its own characteristics, which must be taken into account when choosing tiles for finishing various rooms.

Types of decorative brick tiles for interior decoration

Each apartment owner independently decides on the choice of one or another type of tile for wall decoration. In this case, it is necessary to take into account many points, among which are operational characteristics (bathroom or living room). In addition, do not forget about the advantages and disadvantages of each material from which the tile is made.

Clinker bricks for interior decoration

This type of tile was originally used for outdoor finishing work, but recently it has been actively used indoors. This is due to the large number of advantages of this material:

  • simplicity and ease of laying on a surface of any complexity;
  • resistance to ultraviolet radiation, bacteria and friction;
  • long service life due to high surface strength;
  • water absorption;
  • ease of cleaning from dust and dirt.

Despite the advantages, clinker tiles for interior decoration also have disadvantages:

  • low impact resistance;
  • high cost, which is especially taken into account when choosing between clinker and conventional ceramic products.

Advantages and disadvantages of using gypsum tiles to imitate bricks. Styling methods. Features of working with different bases.

Brick-like ceramic tiles

For the manufacture of this type of tile, sand and clay taken in certain proportions are used, which results in an environmentally friendly finishing material that is great for both outdoor and indoor work. This type differs from other types of brick-like wall tiles with a smooth texture, which makes the masonry with its use as similar to the real one as possible.

This type of material is great for all types of rooms, and also combines well with wood, wallpaper, etc.

Polycement tiles

A crushed mixture of sand, cement and shells is used to make this type of brick tile. Among the advantages of this type, it is worth noting light weight, high breathability and a beautiful textured surface. However, this tile has a significant drawback - increased fragility. Therefore, its transportation and installation is carried out with great care or with the help of professionals.

It is used for finishing living rooms, bedrooms and a corridor, but in the bathroom it should not be used, as the tile will quickly deteriorate and the repair will have to be done again.

Flexible tile for interior decoration

For the manufacture of this type of tile, a mixture of cement, acrylic polymer and pigments is used. A distinctive feature of this material is the ability to bend at any angle. Therefore, it is excellent for finishing various rounded surfaces. To bend the tiles, a regular or building hair dryer is enough.

Among the advantages of flexible brick tiles, it should be noted:

  • high heat and sound insulation;
  • ease of installation and no special requirements for work;
  • light weight;
  • the minimum amount of waste after installation;
  • cladding does not require the use of a special agent, ordinary cement is sufficient;
  • high resistance to temperature extremes and high humidity;
  • the surface of the material is pleasant to the touch.

Among the shortcomings, it is worth noting the high price of brick tiles for interior decoration.

Advantages of decorative bricks for interior decoration

Any type of tile allows you to create the illusion of brickwork, but it has several advantages over its progenitor:

  • ease of cladding. This makes it possible to significantly save on repairs;
  • brick wall decoration does not require preliminary surface preparation. The exception is gypsum walls, which require additional mesh reinforcement;
  • thanks to a wide price range, everyone can buy brick tiles;
  • it is possible to choose this finishing material for any design solution due to the wide color range and surface texture. At the request of the client, manufacturers can make tiles with his last name or family coat of arms;

  • material is excellent for finishing door and window openings. The result obtained looks unusual and stylish;
  • the ability to use with any modern style - Italian, art deck, loft, Provence, rustic, etc.

Helpful advice! The use of tiles allows you to hide irregularities and surface defects.

Design techniques for laying tiles

Many people refuse to use stone tiles for interior decoration in the apartment, being afraid to add gloom to the room. However, these fears are groundless, because there are many compromise design solutions when it is possible to veneer not the entire room, but only one of the walls, a niche or a ledge. The main thing is to think over the general design concept for the whole room.

Imitation of protruding brickwork from chipped plaster is an interesting idea, but it must match the overall style. Sometimes protruding corners are trimmed with brickwork, but such a design decision depends entirely on the desire of the owner of the apartment.

If the room has a fireplace or stove, then you should take care of the appropriate decoration of the space around it. Designers do not recommend completely covering the walls with imitation brick for interior decoration, it is better to do it around the hearth or in a small area.

Helpful advice! The all-brick walls near the fireplace smear this decorative element, and it is completely lost. A combination of several finishing materials will help emphasize the hearth and give it charm.

When choosing a tile for a room, do not forget about its color. Too dark tones will give the room gloom and barracks. And sand tones, on the contrary, will add warmth and space. Proponents of conservatism may prefer red tones of natural masonry in the living room, and choose white brick-like tiles for the bedroom.

Do not forget about such an important point when choosing a tile as its surface. It can be either smooth or matte. Experts truly believe that the shiny surface looks unnatural. However, if it is combined with the appropriate elements and decoration of the rest of the room, the result can be unexpected and interesting.

White glossy brick-like tiles are actively used for facing the kitchen or bathroom. The smooth surface is well cleared, does not absorb moisture and various pollution.

Features of installation of decorative tiles

Brick-like ceramic tiles for interior decoration in the form of panels are laid using the groove-to-groove snap-in technology, in this case the sheet imitates several rows.

If a single tile is a cut of one brick in size and shape, then many difficulties arise. In this case, it is necessary to lay it in a checkerboard pattern, otherwise the imitation of natural masonry will not work. Experts recommend using ordinary building crosses, which must be placed in pairs from two corners of ceramic brick tiles. This will make it possible to obtain an even masonry without displacement.

When installing facing bricks for interior decoration in the interior, do not forget about the seams. They should be wider than when laying ordinary tiles. To achieve this, you need to choose large wide crosses.

Upon completion of installation work, do not forget about grouting. It must be chosen according to the color of the tile or a contrasting shade. Professionals recommend not using grout at all, but using the remaining cement mortar or. This is due to the fact that real brickwork is not overwritten.

Regardless of the room for which the brick-like tile is chosen - for the kitchen, living room or bedroom, it looks beautiful and interesting in any interior. A wide range allows you to choose any material option and not violate the overall style of the home - red tiles, white brick, black clinker, etc. Laying is also not a laborious process, which allows even a beginner to do the job.

Designer imitation game - artificial brick for interior decoration: 5 trendy options

Are you looking for a wall decoration option that combines visual appeal, practicality and affordability? I can suggest at least one - artificial brick for interior decoration. About what this material is good for and how to use it as effectively as possible in the interior, read below.

What is good decorative brick and its imitation

The main thing that distinguishes decorative brick for interior wall decoration from the usual natural counterpart is weight. Artificial material is much thinner and several times lighter, and accordingly, it can decorate all vertical planes in the room without fear of creating an additional load on the load-bearing walls.

In addition to this important factor, I cannot fail to mention other advantages of this type of finish. Who knows, maybe their listing will make you at least think about acquiring such interesting material?

So, what is good decorative brick:

  1. It is resistant to abrasion. Such material is not afraid of mechanical impact, which is why it can often be found in hallways, near doorways or other places that get dirty and rubbed the fastest.

  1. Has high thermal insulation. Do not want to freeze on cold winter evenings? Facing brick will help with this, because it is able to reduce heat loss in the room. Useful feature, isn't it?
  2. It is durable. Having finished the walls once, you can forget about repairs for decades. Decorative brick does not fade, is resistant to temperature extremes and chemicals, so the need to replace it will not arise soon.

  1. Waterproof. Even without additional processing, the brick resists water well, but if you open it with a water-repellent solution, the water-repellent properties will become simply fantastic. During the cleaning process, the material can be washed with a damp sponge using non-aggressive chemicals.
  2. High sound insulation. There are no comments here, I think everyone can understand why such a function is good in conditions of thin partitions and walls.

  1. Absolute environmental friendliness. The material is made on the basis of exclusively pure natural components, so it will not emit any harmful compounds.

Agree, the voiced advantages are quite impressive and favorably distinguish the material from other, at least, not environmentally friendly options. But before talking about the imitations of brickwork in the interior, I will write a little about the most popular types of artificial brick today.

  1. Clinker. False brick, the basis of which is clay. It can hardly be called a budget option, the high price is due to the complex manufacturing process, during which the material is fired.

Thanks to these manipulations, the clinker brick acquires an increased density and strength, and its color range - heterogeneity. The material is widely used for both external and internal finishing works. In the interior, it can most often be found as a decoration for fireplaces, verandas and loggias. In the next section, I will talk about it in more detail.

  1. Decorative gypsum brick is a hand-molded material: a special solution is poured into molds. After the mixture hardens, it is removed from the molds, after which the drying process begins.

This option is used only for interior decoration, since such gypsum tiles do not tolerate heavy loads.

Features of brick wall decoration

If for some reason real brick is an inaccessible luxury, then other materials that perfectly imitate brickwork come into play. Can be used:

  • building panels;
  • tiles;
  • stylized wallpaper;
  • plaster.

All of them will help to create an original brick decor. Below I will dwell on each option in more detail and consider their features.

Option number 1. Panels

Building panels are in particular demand among fans of "brick" decor. And if initially they were used for external cladding, now they can increasingly be found inside the house.

Imitation panels are made of plastic, which makes them insensitive to dust, moisture or rust. The interior brick-like finish with panels is highly resistant to alkaline and acidic agents. The main benefits also include:

  • ease of installation;
  • a light weight;
  • good sound insulation;
  • presentable appearance;
  • affordable cost.

There is also a significant drawback. Imitation of brick for interior paneling sometimes needs an additional crate, which eats up extra centimeters of space. This is especially noticeable in small rooms.

Panels can be mounted vertically or horizontally, everything will depend only on your preferences. You can mount them either on nails or screws, or on screws.

Option number 2. Tile

With its characteristics, thickness and method of masonry, it differs little from its ceramic counterpart. The surface of the material is covered with glaze, which allows to keep the shade for many years.

Other benefits include:

  • porous structure that looks very impressive;
  • excellent thermal insulation performance.

Recently I found out that there is still a special flexible brick-like tile. The main feature of which is that it can be bent in any direction. Accordingly, this allows the use of such material in the process of decorating columns, door or window openings.

Option number 3. Wallpaper

When time and money severely limit your choice of available options, wallpaper with an imitation of the coverage you want can come to the rescue. They will perfectly fit into the interior of almost any room, and the process of gluing is familiar to many.

In addition, in a few years, without much hassle and piles of construction debris, if you wish, you can replace the wallpaper with another type of finish. Needless to say, the same decorative gypsum brick or clinker tile will cost much more?

Despite the advantages, the minus of such wallpapers is very noticeable. Although they are easy to finish and cheap, they will not be able to compete with a higher quality imitation, which feels much more like a brick to the touch.

Option number 4. Plaster

Even from plaster you can create a great imitation, and you can do it yourself. How will plaster help in this case?

  1. It is varied in texture and shades, and if necessary, the paint will allow you to achieve the desired tone.
  2. The plaster is easy to apply.
  3. It has good thermal insulation properties.
  4. It is an environmentally friendly and durable material.

On the other hand, it easily attracts dust and gets dirty quite easily. So you have to wash it often.

Brick and interior

Artificial brick is not only a material for wall cladding in an apartment. For example, this is an excellent tool for zoning space, they also decorate the bar counter on the border of the combined kitchen-dining room.

I can't help but notice that it is widely used as an important accent in various interiors:

  1. Loft. A style that cannot be imagined without rough brickwork. Most often, it decorates one of the walls of the room.

To achieve maximum effect, it is better to use artificially aged brick, which seems to bear the stamp of time.

  1. Country. For this style, most of the area is tiled: walls, a stove or fireplace, door and window openings. Most often used brick reddish shades.

If any type of imitation can be used to decorate walls, then only clinker is used for lining a stove or fireplace.

  1. High tech. Here, the imitation of antiquity will be inappropriate; you should use a perfectly smooth glossy brick. The color range is quite limited - it is better to give preference to gray or shades of white.

You can either decorate one accent wall, or decorate the columns in this way (if there are any of course). The grout for the joints should be chosen as close as possible to the bricks, so that it is practically indistinguishable from them.

  1. English style. When designing a kitchen, full cladding of all walls is allowed. But this is possible only with sufficient quadrature and the presence of other natural materials in the interior - ceramics, wood, stone.

5 o'clock tea will be even more pleasant against the backdrop of a red brick wall

For a small kitchen, you can use decorative brick-like tiles and line an apron with it.

More about the laying process

I talked about the varieties of materials that imitate brickwork. It's time to talk about how to lay decorative bricks for interior decoration using the gypsum version as an example. I will divide the repair work into several stages.

Training

To begin with, it is worthwhile to clearly imagine what end result you want to achieve. You may even want to create a rough sketch (if you do not want to decorate the whole wall or want to decide on a pattern). Next, you need to act according to the following scheme:

  1. Remove even the smallest residue of wallpaper or paint.

  1. Degrease the surface. To understand which places especially need adhesion, it is enough to spray the wall with water. Places where greasy stains remain must be further processed mechanically.

  1. You should scratch the wall a little - such a manipulation will make it so that the decorative stone under the brick smeared with glue will be better fixed on the surface.

Gluing process

Just before starting repair work, make sure that you have all the necessary tools at hand. Brick-like finishing tiles will not be able to firmly settle on your walls without:

  • hacksaws for wood;
  • spatulas of different sizes;
  • putties;
  • water-based varnish;
  • several kitchen sponges;
  • file or sandpaper;
  • building level;
  • a pencil with which you can make marks;
  • construction mixer or drill.

When all the tools are assembled, you can proceed directly to the installation:

  1. Dilute special glue with water until a thick paste forms. You can mix the ingredients with a construction mixer.
  2. Check the floor level. Decorative brick-like tiles, or rather its first row, are laid out exactly on the floor.
  3. To achieve the most authentic styling, stack tiles of different sizes next to each other.
  4. Starting from the second level, make sure that the new joint between the tiles does not coincide with the previous one.

  1. If necessary, you can "tighten" the tile to the desired shape with a chisel. This is especially true in cases where a rounded arch or other curly element is decorated.
  2. To make the corners fit together as best as possible, they can be cut with must, and the saw cuts can be sanded with sandpaper.

  1. At the joints where the cutting was done, you should carefully go through the putty.
  2. Paint over all white areas with paint of a suitable shade.

After the facing tile under the brick has been installed, you can walk on it with varnish. Here I recommend experimenting by pre-painting one element. If it seems to you that it has become too shiny, then you can dilute the varnish with a little water.

Finally

Imitation of brickwork is a rather stylish and practical design solution that will complement the interior favorably. I hope I was able to explain its advantages and features in an accessible way.

Having studied the method of decorating, I myself am already thinking about using it in the interior!
