How to remove a floor plastic plinth. How to properly dismantle skirting boards and profiles. Putty and adhesive with strong hold

One of the stages of preparing the premises for repair is the dismantling of old floor and ceiling moldings. This work is not very difficult, however, there are several nuances here. But the use of brute force alone can lead to damage to the flooring, as well as wall and ceiling finishes.

We will tell you how to remove the skirting board from the floor and ceiling carefully, without damaging the surrounding surfaces.

For dismantling both ceiling and floor moldings, the set of tools will be the same. It differs only depending on what material the plinth is made of and how it is attached. You will need one of these: a screwdriver, a screwdriver, or a spatula.

Removing floor moldings

The easiest job is to remove the moldings, which are fastened with clips and mounting rails. The left side of the following photo shows how to remove the plastic baseboard from such mounts. Here you only need to slip the spatula between the bar and the floor and gently press the plinth up. If necessary, you can disassemble and fasteners. If the fixation was made using self-tapping screws - also nothing complicated. They can be removed with a screwdriver or screwdriver.

An old wooden baseboard nailed down can cause much more problems. It is harder to remove it, and this despite the fact that there is a constant risk of damage not only to the wallpaper, but also to the plaster. This is especially true of the old housing stock. To avoid problems, we do this:

  • We start a spatula between the wall and the molding, carefully trying to expand the gap.
  • We take a small wedge and insert it into the resulting gap.
  • With light blows of the hammer, we drive the wedge a little deeper.
  • We retreat 30 cm, repeat the operation with a spatula.
  • We insert the next wedge, deepen it.
  • We drive the first wedge even deeper.

So we work with two or three wedges, gradually driving them down until the nails come out of the wall.

How to tear moldings from the ceiling

The easiest way is to dismantle the ceiling plinth made of foam or polyurethane, as they are attached to the glue. The spatula in a few movements from itself starts up between the ceiling and the plinth, then we move the spatula a little to the side and repeat everything. We do this until the baguette is completely separated.

If the bar is wide, and you do not have enough strength to destroy the adhesive with your own hands, you can help yourself with a hammer. You repeat all the same, only the spatula blade is moved away from you not by the force of the hand, but by a light blow of the hammer on the handle. For mounting on screws or nails, the same instructions are suitable as for floor moldings.

The dismantling of the plinth can be attributed to simple work that even a person who has never been involved in construction can handle. You don’t need much mind in this matter, but it’s still worth getting acquainted with what tool you need and what order of work. The plinth, as you know, is different: sometimes wooden, and sometimes plastic.

Removing the plastic plinth. It is enough to take a screwdriver or a screwdriver and unscrew the screws, if the plinth has a hidden ditch for wiring, then first remove it, and then unscrew the screws. With a wooden plinth, the situation is worse, and not a modern wooden one, but an old Soviet painted solid wooden plinth. To remove such a skirting board, sweat well.

Tool you will need:

    • crowbar;
    • Wooden wedges;
    • A chisel or a large, sturdy screwdriver to pry the baseboard from underneath.

Dismantling of the old wooden plinth.

Take and pry the old plinth in two planes: from the wall to the side and from the floor up. You pry it from the walls to the side with the help of a crowbar, and from below it is advisable to stick a chisel or a flat, strong screwdriver. Under both levers, that is, under the crowbar and chisel (or whatever you have), it is necessary, if possible, to place wooden wedges. This must be done so as not to damage the walls during dismantling. It is necessary to act with two levers at once, gradually tearing off the plinth from the walls and from the floor. In the process of dismantling, a gap should form between the wall and the floor with a characteristic creak of nails. After it has appeared in one place, move further along the entire skirting board, with the same movements, dismantle the skirting board around the entire perimeter of the room.

Ceiling plinth is a sought-after element of decor, which is found at the junction of the ceiling and wall. It is required to mask possible visual defects, to give the interior a finished look. In some cases, it becomes necessary to remove it from the ceiling. This happens during a new renovation, when updating the interior, or if an old element has worn out.

You can cope with this task yourself, no special skills are required. However, you need to act carefully so as not to damage the tension fabric. To do this, it is recommended to follow our advice and choose the right tools.

What will be needed for work?

Attention! There are many types of skirting boards available. They differ in size, material, the presence of decorative elements, corners, moldings. Depending on this, various types of fasteners are distinguished - nails, glue, putty, modern adhesive mixtures.

To remove this element, you will have to find a number of tools and materials. They directly depend on the type of fastening and the material of the plinth. In any case, it is important to proceed carefully so as not to damage the surface of the walls and ceiling. The ideal removal is when the decor element can be re-glued.

Among the tools you will need the following if the element is glued or nailed:

  1. Mallet.
  2. A hammer.
  3. Chisel. Alternatively, choose a flathead screwdriver.
  4. Wooden wedges.
  5. Flexible, small and thin spatula or scraper.
  6. Special knife: shoe or ordinary clerical.
  7. Nail puller or crowbar.

Skirting board material

The easiest way is to remove the plastic element. It is attached to dowel-nails. To get rid of the part, carefully remove the decorative bar. After that, the wires are taken out of the cable channel, if they are laid, the screws are unscrewed. If desired, you can simply install the element in place.

Another possible plinth material is gypsum stucco. In this case, it is not recommended to touch it. It is unlikely that it will be possible to carefully remove the decor. You can try to run a knife along the joints and push the knife inward. In some cases, it is possible to remove the molding. If this does not work, wet the plaster and beat it with a hammer.

Decorative parts are made of foam or polystyrene. They are attached with special glue. To remove such an element, a ceiling of warm air is directed onto the material. In a short period of time, the glue will soften, the decor is removed with a thin spatula or knife. It is not recommended to touch the material with your hands, as warm air softens it and makes it susceptible to mechanical damage.

The hardest thing to get rid of is a plinth made of wood or polyurethane. They are attached with glue or nails. The dismantling of the element attached to the putty or adhesive composition begins from the corner or from the side of the door. To do this, use a mallet or a spatula of a thin type. The joint is carried out with a sharp knife, getting a kind of gap. With a spatula, the element is supported from below, and with a mallet they tap on the handle. The tool must carefully penetrate the gap and cut off the baseboard.

You can remove the decor attached to the nails by embroidering the fastening seams with a knife. Additionally, they are also filled with paintwork material. The chisel is driven into a gap located near the wall using a mallet. It turns out a gap where a corner of wood is inserted. The actions are carefully repeated, gradually removing the plinth.

Now you know how to remove the ceiling plinth. In general, the work is simple, so you do not have to call the master. Most often, the reason for the removal of this part is an unaesthetic appearance and the desire to install a new design. To eliminate any difficulties and difficulties, pay attention to the video. The advantages of this coverage are obvious. It is attractive, resistant to temperature and humidity changes, does not change color under the influence of sunlight, has a long service life, and reliably hides any defects in the ceiling plate. In addition, the D-Premium fabric of the German manufacturer and the Pongs PVC film used to create the stretch ceiling are presented in a wide range of colors. Moreover, these materials can be repainted and even applied to them with a pattern. Thanks to this, you can create a truly unique interior in the room.

As a rule, after the installation of the stretch ceiling is completed, decorative skirting boards are installed. In addition to the aesthetic effect, this element has another important purpose - it hides the seam formed between the ceiling and the wall near PVC ceilings. But what to do if a new renovation is planned in the room, how to peel off the plinth from the stretch ceiling?

Dismantling Features

As a rule, when installing a decorative ceiling plinth (fillet, baguette), the product is glued to the wall. Fixing it to the ceiling is highly undesirable. First of all, traces of glue may appear on the surface, which cannot be removed. That is, the attractiveness of the ceiling will be reduced. In addition, with a new repair, it is the wallpaper that most often changes, while the ceiling and floor coverings, as materials that have a long service life, are not removed. Accordingly, it is more rational to fix the fillet to the wall.

There are several ways to remove the ceiling baguette. The easiest is to pull a little on it. Ceiling skirting boards are very easy to remove. It is enough just to pry them in several places with a clerical knife or spatula (put the blade 2-3 cm between the wall and the plinth). After that, the plinth can be easily removed.

Styrofoam baguettes are somewhat more difficult to remove. The fact is that this material is residually fragile. Accordingly, during dismantling, one should be prepared for the fact that the plinth will break, crumble. It cannot be reused. For dismantling, a thin spatula should also be used. It is carefully inserted between the wall and the baguette, and gradually shifts to the side, tearing off this element. You can also use a wide knife. After the element is dismantled, the wall surface should be cleaned from the remnants of foam and glue.

It is quite difficult to peel off the ceiling plinth from the stretch ceiling, if it is glued to the coating. During the dismantling process, knives and spatulas should not be used - sharp objects can easily damage thin material, as a result of which the ceiling will be damaged. You can try to heat the baguette a little with a hairdryer. But this should be done very carefully. The PVC film from which the stretch ceiling is made is quite sensitive to high temperatures. That is, overheating can lead to the fact that the coating simply begins to melt.

If the stretch ceiling is made of polyurethane-impregnated polyester fabric, it is more resistant to high temperatures. But the upper limit is +80?C. And you shouldn't exceed it. After heating, the baguette will easily move away from the surface. On the one hand, the process of dismantling the ceiling plinth is quite simple. But, if you want to peel off the plinth from the stretch ceiling without damaging the surface, it is better to invite specialists who can do it quickly and accurately.
