How to install horizontal blinds on plastic windows? Fixing blinds to windows: instructions with and without drilling How to fix horizontal blinds

Installing blinds is a more practical way to cover or decorate windows than buying bulky tiered curtains. The advantage of this option, at least, is that it is much easier to clean the blinds from dust or household dirt - they weigh less than a cornice with curtains, but they cost an order of magnitude cheaper. The editors of the publication suggest that you familiarize yourself with all the nuances of installing blinds before buying.

The practicality and ease of use of the blinds is manifested even at the stage of choosing the mounting option.

There are several ways to close a window with blinds:

  • Installation of blinds directly in the window opening (only if the window of this room is recessed into the wall)
Installation of blinds in beige color in the interior from Metro Cabinet Company An alternative to the usual blinds from Shelly's Interior Concepts

In this case, choose blinds of a smaller width than the window opening (an average of 3-4 cm from the total width of the opening). The difference is needed to place fasteners on both sides of the window. The height of the design is chosen arbitrarily. To ensure that nothing interferes with the free opening of the window, measure the blind system in the raised state and retreat the same amount from the top of the opening up to the ceiling.

  • Installing blinds above the window opening (if the window is slightly recessed into the wall)

By choosing this installation option, you can block not only the window, but also part of the wall near the window opening, further darkening the room. The width is chosen arbitrarily, however, the minimum margin for overlapping width must be at least 10 cm (5 cm for each side of the window).

It is important to choose the height of the structure correctly: it should be equal to the height of the window opening +10 cm. During installation, the blinds take into account the possibility of opening the window when the structure is fully raised.

  • Installation of blinds in window sashes

This option will require two systems instead of one. They are installed on the window sashes so that each element can be used separately. With this installation option, you can simultaneously leave one section of the window for ventilation without lifting them from the second section or partially illuminate the room.

IMPORTANT! With this installation option, the system should not overlap the window handle.

  • Installing blinds above the window opening if the window is mounted flush with the walls of the house

Since in this installation option the window handle protrudes deep into the room, the structure must be mounted on special brackets that give the desired indentation from the wall. The width in this case should not be less than the width of the window.

IMPORTANT! Since there is a gap between the wall and the blinds, more light enters the room. To darken the room more, on each side of the window +10 cm wide. The height of the blinds should be 10 cm higher than the height of the window.

According to the materials used:

  • fabric: the most common lamellas are made of polyester - a durable material that does not fade in the sun and is easy to clean.
  • cotton: eco-style is becoming more and more popular every year. True, such models can cost more. Usually cotton blinds get dirty quickly and do not tolerate moisture well.
  • wooden: they are made from light but durable woods, so they need frequent cleaning (often they are vacuumed once a week).
  • bamboo: most often found only in a horizontal version. Thanks to the pliability of the starting material, they can be dyed in colors ranging from light woody to deep red, while retaining their natural properties.
  • fiberglass: ideal for the kitchen, as fiberglass has increased fire safety.
  • plastic: they are rarely used in an apartment because of their appearance. More common are the cases of using such structures on the office windows in the premises.
  • aluminum: they are most often covered with multi-colored enamel.

For installation you will need:

  1. roulette;
  2. level;
  3. pen or pencil for marking;
  4. perforator for making holes for brackets;
  5. pliers;
  6. Screwdriver Set;
  7. a hammer.
Installation of blinds in the interior from the studio Matt Elkan Architect

Installation of a horizontal system must be carried out in the following sequence:

  • assembly of parts and mechanisms:brackets are assembled, the bracket is attached to the bracket with a screw and nut;
  • assembly of the eaves: the required number of runners (equal to the number of slats) and the mechanism for controlling the position of the blinds are inserted (if the position can be controlled from two sides, then there will be two control mechanisms);
  • fixing the brackets on the wall: markings for dowels or self-tapping screws securing the brackets must be leveled. Quantitybrackets is determined by the length of the cornice and the material of which the wall consists. If the wall is concrete, then 1 bracket is needed for 1 meter of cornice; if from lessdurable material, it is necessary to reduce the distance between the brackets; from drywall - brackets are placed every 60-80 cm;
  • fixing the cornice on the brackets: the front groove of the front side of the cornice is installed in the front ledge of the latch (bracket) of the wall cornice, and its back side is fixed on the reverse side of the bracket with simple pressure until it clicks.
  • attaching the lamellas to the sliders of the eaves: comes down to alternately snapping the “ear” of the lamella holder into the lock of the slider. At the same stage, the bottom of the blinds is connected with two chains (weights are fastened with lower chains on both sides);
  • the operation of the control mechanism is checked: adjustment of the system.

How to install plastic blinds: step by step instructions

Installing blinds with your own hands does not take much time. The main thing is to hang the structure evenly and consider the location of the adjustment cord (on the left or right side of the window). To independently perform all the installation work, it will take no more than an hour.

IMPORTANT! Before fixing the structure, check the horizontality of the wall marks with a level.

Blinds installation. Step 1 - Mark out a place for installing blinds

After marking, we place the mount on the wall. Blinds need to be installed on the wall. Attach the eaves to the fixture, lower the blinds to their full length (you can use an adjusting cord), level and mark the attachment points on the structure. Blinds installation. Horizontal blinds are made of wood, plastic or aluminium. They are highly resistant to sunlight. Depending on the type of fastening, horizontal type blinds can be inter-frame, attic and conventional. A rich color range of products will harmoniously decorate any house, apartment or office space.

Aluminum blinds are considered the most convenient of all horizontal ones. These "light protection devices" have one very important advantage - the ability to be installed in places where other types of curtains or blinds cannot be used for a number of reasons. Aluminum blinds are made from aluminum tape with high strength characteristics and coated with a special compound.

Advantages of horizontal blinds

Blinds are compact, reliable and affordable - it is thanks to this that they have long and firmly entered our everyday life. They are installed not only in offices or in the kitchen, but also in the living room, nursery and even in the bath! After all, their moisture resistance is beyond praise! Aluminum products provide sufficient light and sun protection for a comfortable stay in the room, and also reliably cover from prying eyes.

And more blinds:

  • do not absorb dirt and dust;
  • do not deform;
  • easy to care for;
  • do not accumulate static electricity.

Interesting! "Standard" aluminum horizontal blinds is a basic combination of functionality, reliability and elegance. This is the best choice for the kitchen, office.

Wood effect horizontal blinds allow you to successfully combine the affordability and reliability of aluminum construction with a "natural" interior, dominated by wood shades.

perforated blinds , with the effect of "dense tulle" are suitable for connoisseurs of soft diffused light. They are good for living room, nursery, bedroom.

But in order for the products to really serve your home faithfully, it is very important to know how to install horizontal blinds correctly.

Installation instructions for horizontal blinds

Fastening horizontal blinds can be carried out to the ceiling, to the wall, in the opening.

Measurement of horizontal blinds

  1. Determine the overall dimensions (height and width) of the product based on the design features of the window opening. If the installation of horizontal blinds will be carried out directly in the opening, it is advisable to subtract one or two centimeters from the estimated width of the product (correction for uneven slopes).
  2. Determine the optimal location of the controls - on the right or on the left.
  3. Determine what type of fastening will be used - standard twist brackets, fastening to tilt-and-turn sashes with or without drilling.
  4. Determine the length of the control handle: standard - 2/3 of the height of the product.

Note! The minimum possible width of products is 22 centimeters. As for its maximum, it is 220 centimeters with a guarantee of trouble-free operation. You can be tempted by 300 - but then no one will give you a guarantee.

Maximum height: 250 centimeters - if with a guarantee, 300 - if without.

Installation of horizontal blinds - step by step

Installation on twist brackets

  1. Based on the overall dimensions of the light-shielding device, mark the mounting locations for the brackets. The distance between them should be at least sixty centimeters. The brackets must not be caught in the control mechanism, rope retainer or caliper.
  2. Attach the brackets to the window sash, ceiling or wall.
  3. Turn the bracket latches until they stop (counterclockwise).
  4. Insert the upper cornice of the product into the brackets, turn the latches all the way clockwise.

Experts note that with self-assembly of horizontal blinds, video instructions from professionals are often not superfluous.

Installation on inclined windows with drilling

  1. Install the twist brackets on the top of the sash; on its lower part, install the corners (lower plastic brackets).
  2. Fasten the cables in special bushings; install the bushings through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  3. Pass the cable through the holes along the edges of the lamellas.
  4. Insert the second pair of bushings into the holes of the lower brackets, thread the cable through them and fix it with a screw.
  5. Attach the handle hook to the control mechanism.
  6. Install the handle holder on the plate on the sash.
  7. Make sure the entire structure works.

Installation on inclined windows without drilling - on cap brackets

  1. Mark the mounting locations for the brackets.
  2. Fasten the twist brackets with the screws supplied to the swivel top brackets.
  3. Install the "structures" on the top of the sash and fix them with a special key.
  4. Install the slip-on bottom brackets on the bottom of the sash.
  5. Fasten the cables in the bushings; install the latter through the springs into the holes along the edges of the upper cornice.
  6. Attach the cornice to the twist brackets.
  7. Pass the rope.
  8. Integrate the plastic bushings into the holes in the bottom brackets.
  9. Fix the cable in the bushings with screws.
  10. Attach the handle hook to the control mechanism.
  11. Install the pen holder.
  12. Check the performance of all structural elements.

The mounting scheme for horizontal blinds, if you delve deeply, is quite simple.

Installation of horizontal blinds: video instruction for installation on a plastic window

Detailed installation instructions for horizontal blinds are presented in this video.

Horizontal aluminum light protection devices, of course, do not need any extra care. However, this does not mean that they can be "left to their fate."

About once a week they need to be cleaned of dust. For this purpose, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a soft fleecy nozzle. Manipulation with an ordinary dry soft cloth is also not forbidden.

If the blinds, for a number of reasons, require a thorough “big wash” (often these are structures on balcony or kitchen windows), then you should do this:

  • dismantle the structure;
  • wash the slats with warm water using a detergent (soap, shampoo, a little washing powder). Boiling water is "contraindicated"!;
  • rinse them thoroughly with water and wipe dry;
  • return the blinds to their place for final drying;
  • remove stains from dried water with a rag. And voila - your blinds shine again!

Please note - in no case should water get on the upper cornice with mechanisms. And one more thing: if your blinds are white, try to avoid detergents that contain ammonia - this can cause yellow spots on individual slats.

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to independently hang blinds on plastic windows. You will be able to find out what types of window multi-leaf curtains are and how to properly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Kinds

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, arranged parallel to each other and adjustable plates, made of various materials - fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light
  • decorate the window
  • regulate air flow.
There are several types of blinds. The most common of them are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
Let's take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was in this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of rigid curtains was carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds are thin plates (lamellas) that are arranged one above the other like a ladder. They are interconnected by a cord that allows you to open and close them, as well as adjust the height. The plates are controlled by a rotary rod. Lamels can be made of different materials - wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good sun protection
  • increased heat transfer;
  • the ability to control the intensity of lighting;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of maintenance and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • the ability to use for any premises, including kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are no downsides to horizontal blinds. They can be present only depending on the material from which they are made. We will discuss them in more detail in a separate section below.

vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. However, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used to decorate various rooms.

These are plastic, metal or fabric lamellas suspended on a cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a side mechanism that rotates the plates - with the help of a decorative cord (chain) they turn, with the help of a rope they move in one direction, fully or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the ability to install in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in skylights and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • effective regulation of the flow of sunlight;
  • good air access when dimming;
  • the possibility of combining with ordinary curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Among the shortcomings should be mentioned:
  • inconvenience when shifting to the side when opening the window;
  • the impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when fastened to the window opening.

Rolled

Roller blinds have recently entered the field of view of modern apartment design. Preference is given to them by those who love coziness and comfort in the house. It is they who are able to create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. In addition, the appearance of roller blinds is more attractive than other types, while the functionality also remains on top.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft, on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially closing the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of operation;
  • ease of care - the fabric is impregnated with dust and water-repellent composition;
  • the possibility of implementing any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and overheating of the room;
  • the ability to create any degree of illumination of the room;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • possibility of installation on skylights;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with opening windows and decorating the window sill;
  • the possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than the more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

Cassette blinds are one of the types of roller blinds. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or a fabric roll are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash when closing.

This design allows you to save space, free the window and window sill, additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, and deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, angled and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated blinds. As the name already implies, these are fabric curtains assembled in a small fold. Their choice is huge and is represented by various colors, density of fabric material, shapes. Some of them are sewn according to a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original atmosphere. This option is a piece of fabric, which is attached to a special profile and is controlled by a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated blinds:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the possibility of designing a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated solutions in the interior are not complete without the use of multiimpressive blinds, i.е. those in which the lamellas are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Varieties of material

As already mentioned, at different times the blinds were made from different textures. Today, the most common materials for window hard curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, less often wood. Each of them has both pluses and minuses.

fabric

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the room from sunlight in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are drawn to the look and color options of fabric blinds, but are put off by the notion that they require the same maintenance as regular curtains. However, it is not.

Textiles for blinds are impregnated with special impregnations that prevent dirt, dust and moisture from being absorbed. Care will consist only in periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wooden structures, they have a shorter service life. Textile models are not the best option for the kitchen or catering establishments, as they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden plates. They were replaced by metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window guards.

Plastic

One of the most purchased types, due to its low price and the possibility of using it in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, with high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be with varying degrees of light transmission, various colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at the best price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft, with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow under prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to poor resistance to fire;
  • release of toxic substances in case of fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, ability to withstand different temperatures, moisture. They are often used to protect windows in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Among the shortcomings - a heavier weight, the creation of a noise effect in a draft.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are used in certain types of interiors, they go well with fabric curtains and natural wood furniture. They allow you to create a warm homely atmosphere. They are reliable, durable, durable, environmentally friendly, protect well from the sun. However, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

Blinds can be installed without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical hard curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fixed in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in the window opening;
  • to window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening is measured with a tape measure. On a sheet of paper, it is necessary to draw a diagram of the window, on which measurements will be taken in the future.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height, 2 cm from the width.

When installed above a window opening the size of the blinds is calculated based on the addition of 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to its width.

When attached to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the glazing bead with the window on the right side, adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blind window 3 cm is added to the distance from the glazing bead to the glazing bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Video: how to measure horizontal blinds

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • upper part - swivel axle, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord retainer, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • the middle part - lamellas and a plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
The following tools are required for installation:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for mounting finished aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove control knob.
  3. Attach fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the places for attaching the brackets. The distance between them must be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach the brackets to the wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the places for attaching the lower clamps.
  8. Attach bottom fasteners.
  9. Insert adjusting knob.

Important!Care must be taken to ensure that the brackets do not get into the control mechanism, cord retainer or caliper..

Video: installing horizontal blinds

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, remove the side and remove the lower latches from the bottom bar. Then pull out the knots of the cord from the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Re-insert the cords into the holes of the bottom bar and tie knots. Return the lower and side clamps.

You can also shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult to do. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact the master. For trimming, you need a hacksaw with fine teeth. The slats should be folded into one strip and sawn off to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file, if necessary - tint.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need drilling and a drill or punch, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. Roller blinds are attached to plastic or wooden windows using double-sided adhesive tape and PVC brackets without drilling.

If the blinds are attached to the sash, then to calculate their dimensions, you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of system will depend on the latter size. With a bead depth of more than 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Mini.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be cut.

Important! The length of the roller blinds is calculated based on the fact that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for mounting roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a cap on one end of the roll, and a swivel mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the latch into the bracket and fasten it to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets on the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the attachment point.
  5. Mark the mounting points for the brackets.
  6. Make sure that nothing prevents the opening of the curtains.
  7. Degrease the place of attachment of the brackets.
  8. Stick adhesive tape on the sash at the place where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease brackets.
  10. Peel off the protective tape of the tape.
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the adhesive tape at the attachment point.

Video: how to install roller blinds

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, web and bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with ordinary scissors under the ruler, and then the lower rail is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with adhesive tape. In order to install them, you need:

  1. Print product.
  2. Degrease the attachment point to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the lower position.
  4. Mark the location of the cassette attachment with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective film from the adhesive tape attached to the back of the cassette.
  6. Attach the cassette to the frame, press and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully remove the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the cassette of the shade body and press down.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of adhesive tape, press the guides parallel to the frame glazing bead.
  10. Do the same on the other side.
  11. Install a limiter.

vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in the window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can have left-hand, right-hand and central control. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains on your own.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that after installing the blinds the sash will open, you need to measure the distance from the top edge of the sash to the upper slope of the eaves installation point. The distance must be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure in the overlay. Because the window may be uneven, the width and height must be measured at three points.

You can attach vertical blinds to the window opening in this way:

  1. Mark the mounting points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the cornice into the special grooves on the holders and snap the locks.
  5. Install fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Fasten the bottom chain.

Above the windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm to the width of the window opening on each side. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. At least 10 cm should be retreated from the upper slope angle. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance "ceiling - window sill", "ceiling - floor" - 4-7 cm.

To save money, you can try to install blinds with your own hands. This work is not difficult, you just need to correctly mark the slope or frame, depending on where you need to fix the structure. You can use different ways to install such curtains, the choice is made on the basis of design features and dimensions.

Overview of types of curtains blinds

For different objects, the design of windows of a certain style and functionality is selected. Lamellas in the design can be arranged in different ways: vertically, horizontally.

Horizontal blinds

You can find different types of arrangement: pleated, inter-frame, attic, bamboo roller shutters, roll shutters belong to the same group. The main distinguishing feature is the horizontal slats. They can have different thicknesses, widths and function differently. Such structures can be attached to a slope, a frame, they are also installed on top of a window block or inside a frame. It all depends on the size of the windows and the preferences of the owner of the home.

Construction of horizontal models

Classic horizontal blinds can be safely installed in premises with a variety of purposes: offices, private housing, production sites, administrative, retail and educational facilities. These are universal designs that are found in various shades.

Vertical blinds

Such curtains are usually mounted on top of windows, which is due to structural features: vertically oriented slats, most often made of woven material. There are two main types of such structures: floor-length or window sill-length.

General view and arrangement of vertical models

This is one of the reasons why it is customary to install such curtains in private houses, apartments and offices. Installation of blinds of this type is carried out on self-tapping screws. There is an alternative installation option - to the ceiling surface.

Roller blinds

Blinds for windows in this design combine two types of curtains: classic fabric and horizontal plastic. They are equipped with a continuous sheet of various types of material, close the double-glazed window, and, if necessary, rise, folding into a roll.

Blinds of this type are fastened with self-tapping screws, as well as brackets. You can hang them in various interiors.

Mounting options

Horizontal and vertical curtains are characterized by individual design features. Based on this, various fastening methods have been developed:

Mount 1: For vertical structures

Fastening for vertical horizontal models to the wall

Vertical blinds can be mounted under the ceiling or over windows. Such blinds cannot be installed on plastic windows without drilling.

Mount 2: On a horizontal view

Structures with horizontally oriented slats in the standard version are attached directly to the window sashes, to the upper slope. Horizontal blinds without drilling can be placed in any design only on the sashes of the window unit.

G - can be mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling, wall, on the sashes of plastic windows

But the inter-frame analogue was created exclusively for installation in the space between the window frames. There are restrictions on installation to the upper slope, in particular, inter-frame and attic blinds are not attached in this way. If the installation is done by hand, it is imperative to take into account the design features of the products when choosing the installation method.

Preparation, measurements

Useful tools: screwdriver / screwdriver, tape measure, carpenter's pencil. In order for curtains to function as efficiently as possible, measurements must be taken correctly. The design should be symmetrical with respect to the double-glazed window.

If blinds without drilling are attached with adhesive tape, it is possible to correct errors. For analogues mounted on brackets and self-tapping screws, you need to markup as accurately as possible.

To fix vertical curtains, it is enough to measure the dimensions of the window opening, the distance between the attachment points and the length to the bottom edge of the curtain. This will allow you to correctly position the structure relative to the level of the floor and the window opening.

Horizontal blinds are often installed on the sashes, so the main measurements relate to the double-glazed window: height, width of each glass. To these values \u200b\u200badd 2 cm along the upper edge and bottom, 0.5 cm on the sides.

Installation of vertical blinds

Anyone can do the installation of such curtains with their own hands. If the blinds are short, they can be placed inside the window openings. Otherwise, the installation is carried out on the wall or under the ceiling.

For error-free fastening, a consistent instruction is given:

Step 1: Markup

The center point of the window opening is determined and correlated with the center of the blinds eaves. You need to make your own marks along the edges of the structure. The points for installing self-tapping screws are marked on both sides of the eaves closer to the center of the window block by about 5-6 mm.

Attach the cornice to the wall so that the center of the cornice coincides with the center of the window, and make marks along the edges.

Step 2: Look at the level

At the same time, it is necessary to assess whether the lamellas are correctly positioned. Their lower part should be 1-2 cm above the floor level. The same amount must be retreated when installing short curtains (up to the windowsill).

Step 3: Mounting brackets

Dowels are installed in do-it-yourself holes prepared in advance. Brackets are fixed, this is done using self-tapping screws. Further, special clips are installed on these elements.

Be careful with the puncher when drilling for the bracket fasteners, otherwise part of the wall may break off.

Step 4: Installation of slats and chains

A cornice is attached, into which it remains only to insert the runners and directly hang the vertical lamellas themselves on them. The final touch is the chain attachment.

The slats must be hung exactly in the order in which they are folded in the package. Otherwise, you can break the pattern of the blinds.

Installation of horizontal

Guided by the markings made earlier, you can do the fastening of a horizontal structure with your own hands. There is an instruction for this:

  1. First you need to fix the upper fasteners. To do this, using a screwdriver, holes are prepared that will allow you to install the brackets using self-tapping screws.
  2. Next, you need to hang the cornice, it is fastened until it clicks.
  3. Holes for the lower fasteners (corners) are drilled taking into account the dimensions of the thread retainer connecting the lamellas. Typically, the design of blinds requires holes to be made on the sides of the glass. Then the latch, which is connected to the lamella web, can be easily inserted into the corners.

Do-it-yourself installation must be done with the utmost care, otherwise the blinds will not function correctly.

Methods for fastening roller blinds

When deciding how to install blinds on a window, the first task is to determine the appropriate method of fastening. The roll structure is mounted both on self-tapping screws and with the help of an adhesive (adhesive tape, liquid nails).

2 ways of attaching rolled curtains to pvc windows, to l-shaped brackets and to adhesive tape

In the first case, the installation technology of vertical curtains is taken as a basis, since roller blinds require fastening only in the upper part of the structure. To "plant" the structure on the adhesive, the surface of the windows is cleaned and degreased. This will improve the adhesion of materials.

This option is suitable for double frames. Installing an interframe plastic curtain is a complex process and involves the need to violate the integrity of the frame profile: holes are drilled (2 pcs.) To output the blinds control system (handle and cord).

They should be located at the top of the inner sash. Brackets are installed on the upper profile, the technology for mounting horizontal blinds is taken as a basis.

Basic tips for choosing:

  • Before you purchase a design, you need to clarify the composition of the kit, in particular, the presence of fasteners;
  • If the installation is easy to do on your own, then it is better to entrust the repair of curtains to the master;
  • Plastic is easier to care for;
  • It is not recommended to clean the new design too often, as this will cause the protective coating to wear off quickly.

For example, horizontal blinds can be positioned as inside in any convenient way. However, the most popular option is on top of the sash. The interframe structure is more difficult to install, and the vertical counterpart can only be located above the window or under the ceiling due to its large dimensions.

Blinds, which even 10 years ago looked like a real foreign exotic, today have firmly entered our lives. Most office spaces and institutions have moved from using standard curtains to universal blinds, which are less dusty, look stricter and are incredibly comfortable.

Blinds are used even in rooms made in a classic style, because their functionality, ease of maintenance and appearance are on top. In addition, blinds provide effective protection of spaces from sunlight, allow you to easily adjust the level of illumination in the room, and reliably shield the room from prying eyes.

The installation of blinds must be carried out in accordance with all the rules, otherwise you risk getting a lot of problems: the curtains will not move, it will be difficult to assemble the curtain, etc. High-quality installation ensures the longevity of the blinds. When installing, you need to take into account the design features, the specifics of the walls (or window frames) in the room.

PVC window companies offer blinds in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Depending on destination, blinds are made from:

By type of blinds are:

These types differ significantly in the location of the lamellas and installation methods.

Vertical blinds are a rarity in ordinary residential areas, they are more often used in offices. They are mounted above the top edge of the window, similar to curtains, although this may adversely affect their functionality. And roller blinds and horizontal blinds are more often used at home instead of traditional curtains. Their installation is carried out not only in the window opening, but also on top of the window.

Roller blinds are mounted on the front surface of the corner of the upper slope of the window profile.

Blinds with horizontal slats can be mounted directly on the window profile, on each sash. Often, horizontal slats are complemented by curtains with curtains. Installing blinds directly on the window profile saves usable space in the room itself and frees up space on the windowsill.

Blinds are made up of:

For windows of a non-standard shape, it is necessary to use lamellas of a special length, which will best ensure the light protection of the room.

If your window has two sashes, then when installing the blinds, pay attention to the location of the blinds lifting mechanism (right, left).

Three ways to install blinds:

  • overlay;
  • for each window sash separately;
  • directly into the window opening.

A factory set of blinds usually includes all the materials for their installation: screws and self-tapping screws, as well as other details.

The choice of installation option is associated with the design features of the window: it is a little easier to install blinds on standard double-leaf windows than on inclined roof windows. One of the most difficult is the installation of blinds on PVC windows, since working with plastic, compared to, say, with wood, has a number of specific features. The installation of the cornice on plastic windows should be carried out as carefully as possible and it is better to do this in the warm season (at temperatures above +5 degrees Celsius).

The installation of the blinds on the window sash can be carried out using self-tapping screws, brackets or by drilling holes in the frame. It is the most durable and reliable.

Important! The tightness of the profile when attaching the cornice of the blinds to it with the help of drilling does not suffer. If it becomes necessary to remove the cornice, and holes remain in the frame, they can be filled with white silicone sealant.

If you do not want to drill holes, use brackets that are attached to the frame without drilling.

Important! In most cases, blinds can be fixed with screws that are already in the window profile. This installation method is no less reliable than drilling holes. You can learn about the possibility of such a simple installation from the blinds instructions.

Blinds installation progress

After unpacking the blinds, read the instructions. Installing blinds means: measuring the window and adjusting the dimensions of the blinds to it; then install the fasteners for the cornice and the cord system; collect the strips on the eaves and check the performance of the system.

Measurements are necessary in order to subsequently make it convenient to use the light-protective sheet, without complaining about distortions or frequent breakdowns. It is especially important to verify the dimensions of the paintings and adjust them to the place of attachment if the window opening has a specific geometric shape.

Before screwing, you need to mark the position of the fasteners with a pencil, checking them with a level and a tape measure, in order to avoid skewed fit and leave room for adjusting the container, and also so that the strips do not extend beyond the window glass.

2. Installing the cornice and slats

Before installation and direct installation, it is necessary to mark the fasteners with maximum accuracy and symmetry. For the regulating cord, additional fastening must be provided so that the structure can withstand the additional load. All elements are fixed to the wall with screws or dowels. Next is the installation of the eaves. The lamellas and runners themselves will be attached to it. The rigidity of the structure is guaranteed by the upper plank-cornice, so there is no need to additionally strengthen the plank with glue, sealant or foam - it is fixed quite rigidly.

When reinstalling, you need to measure the width of each window sash so that the window fittings do not interfere with the free hanging of the slats. Also, when choosing the installation “in the window opening”, you need to reduce the height of 2 cm on each side so that the canvas does not touch the window sill. To fix the blinds close to the plastic window, you need to drill the plastic frame of the window according to the markup - pre-drilling will prevent cracking of the plastic.

If the plates on which the blinds are hung do not fit snugly against the window profile, use linings.

Brackets for blinds are screwed into the holes with self-tapping screws. Next, the brackets need to be fixed upward with latches and insert a container with blinds into them.

The lower holders are attached as follows: lower the curtain to mark the lower points (the canvas should be loosely stretched). According to these marks, drill holes into which you need to screw the lower holders that fix the canvas in the “micro-ventilation” position. Make sure the staples are firmly seated in the plastic.

When installing overlay, add 5 cm in width so that the entire opening is closed. The height is adjustable arbitrarily and can reach the window sill or the floor itself.

There are a number of modern ways to install blinds, involving the installation of a cornice with lamellas on brackets attached to the window frame without drilling. The striped cornice is simply hung on the brackets and snapped into place. The design is collapsible, which allows you to remove the blinds when you need to wash the window glass or wipe the slats. This is the easiest way to install blinds.

Features of mounting blinds by type

Vertical blinds

Before starting the installation of vertical blinds, you need to decide whether a wall or ceiling mount for the cornice will be more convenient. The height of the light-protective fabric depends on the place where the cornice is attached.

The thickness of the guide for vertical blinds should be at least 5-6 cm, such a gap will ensure free movement of the slats. If there is an obstacle between the blinds and the wall (batteries, etc.), then you will need to install an additional bracket, which is not included in the kit, you need to buy it separately.

If you want the blinds to be at some distance from the wall (cases are different: a pipe, etc.), you must additionally purchase a bracket

For vertical blinds, the order in which the slats are hung is also important: they must be attached to the cornice in the same order that was in the factory box. Also, before starting the installation, it is necessary to determine the correct direction of the suspensions. The correct position is when, when closed, you cannot see the seam on the blind material.

Don't forget to place the bottom weights on the vertical strips to keep the canvas looking flat. Loads from the outer and inner sides are interconnected by a chain. The plumb line is attached to the cord, which is included in the kit. Different manufacturers use plumb lines of different shapes.

There are a wide variety of vertical blind mounts available in stores, but they are very often unreliable. It will be most reliable to mount the blinds using a pair of brackets that need to be screwed to the wall with self-tapping screws.

Roller and horizontal blinds

Horizontal and roller blinds, as well as vertical ones, are equally conveniently installed on a wall, attached to a window or ceiling. The main thing is to clearly measure whether the canvases will interfere with opening the window. If this happens, in the strips, if possible, you need to cut a hole in advance for comfortable opening of the window sashes.

When attaching to double-sided tape, do not forget to dedust and degrease the surface with high quality.

You yourself have seen that self-installation of blinds is quite simple, if you know a few tricks that make this process easier. Good luck with your DIY blinds!
