How can you glue wine corks together. Making crafts from plastic corks. Decorations for the New Year

Have you ever wondered how and from what such a familiar object as a cork for wine is made?

I suggest you look at an interesting photo report from the factory for the production of wine corks.

Cork appeared in the form in which we know it relatively recently, only in the 17th century, along with the appearance of a glass bottle in mass use. Before that, cork was also used, but not in such quantities. They preferred to clog the vessels with rags and pieces of wood, which gave the contents an uncharacteristic taste over time, or even spoiled it. Cork does not swell as much as wood, and if properly processed, it does not spoil the taste of wine or cognac, which is important.
Cork is made from the bark of the cork oak, which grows only in a few countries in Europe and on the Mediterranean coast in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria. In other countries, cork oak practically does not grow. The largest crop of cork bark can be obtained from Portuguese plantations.

The first time the bark is removed from the oak after it is 20-25 years old. The next ten years it should be restored. In addition, you can remove the bark only in a certain season, when it practically exfoliates itself. The rest of the time, the tree can be damaged. The bark is not removed all at once, but in certain areas, so from the side the trees seem half-naked. From the bark taken from one oak, you can get a thousand corks. The bark taken from a 150-year-old tree is considered the highest quality. Oak, which is more than 200 years old, begins to hurt and no longer gives high-quality bark. It is uprooted and a new tree is planted in the vacant place.

This is the only tree in the world whose bark is able to completely regenerate. Cork oaks are marked so that you know when you can harvest them for the next crop. For example, the number 7 means that the last time the bark was removed from this tree was in 2007.

The cut bark is sorted. The first grade is sent to a factory where they make corks for vintage wines and cognacs, and the worst one goes to a plant for the production of building insulation and noise absorbers.

Cork oak bark is dumped into huge piles right on the territory of the plant. Before putting the cork into the case, it is kept in the open air for several months.

First of all, the raw material is subjected to heat treatment. The cork is boiled in a huge cauldron, and at the same time all sorts of spider bugs that managed to start up in it are destroyed.

Then the bark is cut into strips, after which it is again sorted, washed, disinfected and again soaked in water.

Corks are cut out of these blanks, and the cork crumb, to which the binder is added, goes under the press.

Rejected corks are covered with cork dust, they are used for wines of the middle price category. And the simplest and most massive corks, including those for champagne, are made from cork crumbs, the pieces of which are glued together with special glue. Such glued corks are also found in medium and lower price wine bottles, designed for quick sale and short storage.

From the rest of the waste, various finishing materials are made. It is impossible to enter the workshop, from which the cork comes out already packed, without headphones and a respirator - it is very noisy and dusty here. Cork sheets come out from under the press very hot. After they cool down, they are sent for further processing - they are cut into standard plates.
If you paste over a room with such material, you can even walk on your head - the neighbors will still not hear anything. Builders also love cork because, unlike plastic panels, it does not emit toxic gases in the event of a fire.
As for the cork for bottles, its quality used to be checked manually. Since cork oak bark plates have different sizes and thicknesses, not all operations were trusted to automatic machines. A worker, directly engaged in cutting corks, pressed his foot on the pedal of the machine about ten thousand times a day. Now, in modern factories, electronics completely control the entire process. Of course, in such a serious production, labor protection training programs for workers are necessarily involved, which ensures their safety.

Finished corks are carefully sorted. This is done by a special machine. It "scans" the surface of the cork, and depending on how many cracks and defects it detects, directs it to one or another basket. Then it is again checked for quality. The corks are then washed, bleached to remove harmful substances, and placed in a 12% alcohol solution for 24 hours.

Solid corks are ideal for long-term storage only if the necessary conditions are met (humidity, contact of the wine with the cork). Comalted corks (coated) are also suitable for storage, but not for too long. Glued and pressed corks allow wine to be stored for only a few years, after which there is a risk of spoiling the contents of the bottle.

The cork dries out, which can cause damage to the wine due to air access. It is wrong to store wine bottles vertically on the shelves in supermarkets. Just a few months of vertical standing under powerful lamps in the store - and such a wine can deteriorate or lose its taste greatly.

Only natural cork allows the wine to "breathe" and, in contact with the wine, complements the bouquet in a certain way. Bottles sealed with natural cork can be stored for decades and even centuries (under special conditions). For such a long “cooperation” with cork oak, winemakers have studied all the properties of cork, and most eminent wine critics believe that natural corks not only preserve, but also improve the aroma of wine. However, there is a small percentage of marriage - a natural payment for "naturalness".

Not only building materials are made from production waste, but also bags, aprons, shoes and even umbrellas! Cork production is practically waste-free. Among other things, an indispensable material in the manufacture of rescue equipment. On water, it can withstand much more than its own weight, and practically does not absorb moisture.

With the help of wine corks, a sharp penknife and a marker, you can make "branded" stamps. To do this, you must first draw the desired figure and then cut it on the cork. Such prints can be used on postcards, in letters, or simply for playing with children.

Volumetric letters and pictures

Do you want to confess your love in an original way or just surprise your loved ones? Then stock up on wine corks. After all, you can make a beautiful three-dimensional picture from them (for example, in the form of a heart), as well as letters for composing various phrases (for example, I love you). And they, in turn, can be used to decorate the interior and photo shoots. Detailed tutorials on how to make them can be found at the links below.

If the handle of a cabinet or chest of drawers is broken, do not rush to knock on the doorsteps of furniture stores in search of a replacement. You can go the other way and make unusual handles from wine corks. To do this, they need to be sharpened a little, and then attached with screws to the door or drawer. For some, this will become a temporary measure, and for someone - an original detail in the interior.

An old fan grill, a bunch of wine corks, twine... At first glance, this is unnecessary trash, which should be in a landfill. But in capable hands, this garbage turns into a designer chandelier. You need to attach a cartridge to the grill from the fan, and tie plugs to the twine at different levels. Detailed instructions at the link below.

These original frames for pictures and photographs are obtained from wine corks. At the same time, you can safely experiment: glue the corks along, across or in a herringbone pattern, use them whole or cut them into pieces. It all depends on the interior where these unusual frames will hang. By the way, you should not limit yourself to photographs and paintings only - corks can border a mirror, a chalkboard, and much more.

cat toy

If you tie a case on a wine cork, you will get an unusual toy for your pet. You can drive it around the apartment, sharpen your claws about it, and gnaw it. In a word, wine corks can save your shoes and furniture, so take yarn, felt and make a toy for your cat as soon as possible.

Wine corks can make elegant holders. There are two options here: you can screw a wire into the cork and insert photos, notes and other little things, or you can glue or tie several corks together and cut a strip for attaching cards. Such holders can serve as seating cards at a wedding or simply stand on your desk.

A warm and romantic atmosphere can be created with wine corks, two glass jars and a scented candle. Place the vessels one inside the other (the first should be 2-3 times smaller in diameter), fill the space between them with stoppers, insert a candle into the smaller vessel. Voila! The original candlestick is ready.

A plank and a few wine corks - this is the "recipe" for a convenient hanger. Anyone who knows how to handle a screwdriver can do it. Such a hanger will perfectly complement the interior of a summer house or a country house.

Looking at this graceful giraffe, which serves as an interior decoration, it seems as if several experienced engineers were working on it. In fact, it is done in an elementary way: the wire frame is pasted over with paper, and then wine corks are “planted” on it. The main thing is not to feel sorry for the glue, so that the design turns out not only beautiful, but also durable.

With the help of wine corks, you can make a convenient and beautiful panel - something like an "interactive whiteboard". You can attach shopping lists, phone numbers, notes for loved ones or photos to it. In this case, it is better to use small needles or pins, and not glue and adhesive tape - then the panel will serve you for many years.

What goes around comes around. But sometimes it is very difficult to remember what and where you have sown. In order not to get confused in the future harvest, use labels from wine corks. To do this, you need to drill a hole in the cork, insert a stick into it and write "Tomatoes", "Parsley", "Peppers", etc. Stick these tags in seedling containers, and you will always know where and what you are growing.

Wreath

These beautiful wreaths can be made using wine corks. The technology is quite simple: we make a frame and glue it with corks. At the same time, the type and “mood” of the wreath will depend on how you arrange them. These wreaths can decorate the house for the New Year and other holidays. You will find one of the master classes on making wreaths from wine corks

Canape skewers

Canape is a great holiday appetizer. Especially when you consider that you can not buy skewers for them, but make them from improvised materials. This will require wine corks (they need to be cut into circles), toothpicks and some kind of decor (ribbons, stickers, beads, etc. will do). Drill holes for toothpicks in the resulting wooden mugs, decorate them, and the original canapé skewers are ready.

By sawing the cork in half and gluing a magnetic strip to it, you will get an original fridge magnet. With it, you can attach photos, notes, shopping lists and other important little things.

To save furniture, we use special coasters for hot pots and plates. Of course, such a thing can be bought, but it is more interesting to make it yourself. Take a few dozen wine corks (the number depends on the diameter of the stand), a glue gun, a knife and a satin ribbon for decoration. Cut the corks in half (if this is not done, the stand will just turn out a little higher), sand the edges and glue the corks together in the form of a circle or octahedron. Run a ribbon along the edge or decorate with other decorative elements. The stand is ready.

bird house

These are such chic “apartments” that can be made for birds using wine corks. First you need to make a frame from thick cardboard, and then glue it with corks. It turns out a real cobbled teremok. This is a great idea for children's creativity, because the child will learn not only to "build", but also to take care of nature.

Earrings, pendants, necklaces, brooches and rings can all be made from ordinary wine corks. You just need to be a little creative and get the right accessories. Corks can be used whole (for example, for pendants), cut into circles or sawn in half (for earrings and necklaces). They can be decorated and decorated with beads. In a word, the flight of fancy is not limited.

Jewelry storage organizer

From wine corks, you can make not only jewelry, but also an organizer for storing them. Any girl knows how difficult it is to place jewelry so that it is not lost, visible and at hand. Dear ladies, take a picture frame of the right size and stick wine corks inside. Make several hooks to make it convenient to hang beads and bracelets. And earrings can be stuck between corks or directly into them (if the wood is soft enough).

There was a pompous blue-red table, but it became a stylish black-brown one. But its main highlight is the countertop. It is made of wine corks: the corks are “planted” on liquid nails and varnished on top. It may not be very practical, but it's definitely impressive. It is unlikely that any of your friends have such an original bar counter.

To keep your keys from getting lost, make a keychain out of wine corks. It's very simple. You need to buy accessories (sold in stores for goods for creativity) and dream up a little. You can leave the cork as it is, or you can decorate it: paint it, write your name or the “purpose” of the key (for example, “office”, “home”, “mailbox”), hang beads, etc. As a result, you will get an exclusive keychain that is unlikely to get lost.

miniature flower pots

If you think a wine cork is too small to grow plants in, you are wrong. From it you can make a very cute flower pot on a magnet. To do this, you need to take a wooden (necessarily not plastic) cork, hollow out a small hole inside, fill it with earth and plant small sprouts there. After that, you can stick a magnet to the cork, and there will be a nice little “flower bed” on your refrigerator.

A Christmas tree, toys for it, Santa's reindeer, gift wrapping and much more can be made for the New Year with the help of wine corks. For example, to make the main symbol of the New Year holidays - a Christmas tree - you need a base in the form of a cone, paper, glue and, of course, corks. Drape the cone with colored paper and stick corks on it - they will play the role of needles. Such a Christmas tree looks very nice, and may well replace a traditional (live or artificial) tree. Who doesn't love sailing boats? As children, we made them from newspapers, but the voyage of the paper ship was, alas, short-lived. Another thing is a vessel made of wine corks. Glue a couple of corks, attach a sail and you can go on a "sea" trip. Such a boat will delight your child and remind you of your own childhood.

Now it is fashionable to decorate houses with various decorative balls. They are made from paper, thread and other materials. Wine corks also work well for this task. To make a decorative ball out of them, you will need: the actual corks (a lot), a foam ball, a glue gun, brown acrylic paint and a brush. We paint the foam base and the “bottoms” of the corks, and then glue the ball over them. Such a decorative ball of wine corks looks great on a bookshelf, as it harmonizes with books. And if you want to hang it somewhere, do not forget to attach a ribbon.

Wine corks are most often made from wood. Therefore, a wine cork is a durable and reliable material from which you can make practical rugs for the bathroom and hallway. To do this, the corks need to be cut lengthwise and stick them on a rubberized base. You can also use the whole corks and glue them together vertically (it is better to use a metal frame as a base). The last option is more suitable for the front door.

If you drill a hole in several wine corks and insert ink paste into it, then you will get an unusual pen. So that it does not hang out and does not bend, the corks should be glued together. You will not only save on buying stationery, but also surprise your friends.

Many people remember such an attribute of Soviet life as “pendants” made of postcards and paper clips instead of doors. After the collapse of the USSR, filament curtains seemed to be a thing of the past. But fashion, as you know, develops in a spiral - a new round of popularity of filament curtains is coming. True, now they are more used for zoning rooms. One thing is invariable - you can make such a curtain with your own hands. For example, from wine corks. Looks very creative.

This lampshade, made of wine corks, will bring warmth and comfort to your home, and the light streaming through the cracks will create a special, somewhat mysterious atmosphere. But the main thing is that it will not be difficult to make it. You need to take a regular plastic cover and glue it with wine corks. Do not do it too tightly - the more gaps, the more light.

But the main thing, of course, is cork and construction glue.

First you need to make a wire frame, wrap it with newspaper. For the animal to have a shape. Then you need to wrap the entire structure with tape.

18. House of wine corks

In fact, of course, the house is not made entirely of corks, it is simply pasted over with them for the purpose of insulation. But the scope of work, as well as wine drinking, is simply amazing.

Recently, handmade things and crafts, the so-called hand-made, which can be made from anything, have become more and more popular. Plastic corks did not stand aside and got their second use in original design ideas.

Plastic bottles are available to everyone without exception and, of course, are in every kitchen.

Many people try to throw them away right away, but there are also such creative individuals who, using various life hacks, use them for decoration or useful home or garden fixtures, as in the photo of cork crafts.

Today we will talk about crafts from plastic corks.

The use of plastic corks in children's creativity

Children are big dreamers by their very nature. Give them any object, and they can easily transform it into another image. After all, from a very young age, both at home and in the children's team, kids are instilled with an interest in crafts made by themselves.

Plastic bottle caps are a great material for children's creativity. Corks can be easily glued, thanks to which various panels, figurines and decorative things are created.

The kids love to mess around with corks and fantasize about different topics: applications, toys and figures.

Varieties of applications

The most favorite plastic cork craft for kids is a caterpillar. Delight your child by making it from colorful corks and lengths to your taste, and he will fiddle with it all day long.

The caterpillar's face can be made funny, which will inspire the subject. The caterpillar is made very simply, a hole is made in the center of the corks, a fishing line is threaded into it, on which the corks are strung, the muzzle can be made from a kinder surprise cone.

By the same principle, you can make a little man, a cat, a dog, etc.

To make a “bird” craft from bottle caps, you need: two lids, cardboard, light fabric or natural feathers, such as pigeon feathers. The head and torso are made from corks, and the wings are made of cardboard, fabric or feathers.

The “rabbit” application is performed similarly to the “bird”, the body and head are made of covers, one of them should be of a larger diameter, ears made of cardboard and a tail made of a piece of fur. Children love these toys. The main thing is that you can do this with your child.

A do-it-yourself voluminous “turtle” craft made of traffic jams will interest the child more than an application. It's not difficult to do it.

As a necessary material for creativity, you will need: a large diameter lid, cotton buds and an ice cream stick. A lid is glued onto an ice cream stick and cotton buds dyed in green color laid crosswise on top.

Spots are drawn on the lid, eyes are made. Your masterpiece is ready. In the same way, you can create spiders, ladybugs, bees, etc., using various improvised materials.

Cork mosaic

From a large number of multi-colored traffic jams, you can build a mosaic panel. To do this, in addition to corks, you will need a good glue or glue gun so that the composition does not fall apart in the future.

Note!

First of all, choose a surface for creativity, decide on the image and get to work. Details of the panel are attached by alternately gluing them to the prepared surface. If you want to mount them from the back, then you will need screws to mount them.

An interesting solution for the panel will be the option of folded covers of different sizes one to one according to the principle of nesting dolls. For example, the yellow sun from such folded covers looks great.

The cockerel craft is also entertaining, but it requires some skills and time. To do this, you need to make a plywood base, prime it, apply a contour and fix the corks with glue according to the image diagram. Get an original creation.

magnets

An ideal option for beginners would be the manufacture of magnets for refrigerators. Nowadays, almost all refrigerators are decorated with all kinds of magnets and not only to hide any defects.

It will take quite a bit of time to make them and the following materials: corks of different colors, magnets themselves, glue, alcohol solution, paints, multi-colored paper, felt-tip pens.

Note!

First, degrease the cork with alcohol. Glue a magnet inside the cork. We close them with circles of colored paper cut out in advance.

You can decorate multi-colored circles with names, drawings, letters or bows ahead of time too. Using circles with letters, get an entertaining alphabet. You can also make a picture using certain Internet resources as assistants.

Foot massage mat

One of the most popular crafts is the foot massage mat. Making a rug is not a difficult and simple process using multi-colored corks. And then the rug looks bright, unusual, and its use is good for health.

Walk on it for about 15 minutes a day to get relaxation and general strengthening of the body, due to the effect of walking through traffic jams on the nerve endings of the feet.

Prepare multi-colored corks, an awl, a thick fishing line. For a rug in the form of a hexagon on one side, you will need 10-15 pieces of corks. The total caps per piece can be calculated as follows: multiply the number of caps on one side by the number of sides of the mat and subtract the number of repeat caps.

Note!

Then make 6 holes in all plugs with an awl. Next, using the weaving method, starting with the extreme plugs, you should braid all the details to make a hexagon. A rug made of multi-colored corks in the form of flowers will have a beautiful appearance.

Rug for hallway

Practical in domestic use will be a do-it-yourself hallway rug. With the help of a glue gun, bottle caps are glued together in any shape and any kind, colored caps are used to add brightness. It is easily and simply cleaned of dirt.

But it also has its drawbacks: it can scratch the surface of linoleum, so it is better to use it for tiles.

For example, in the bathroom. If the mat will slide on the surface, it should be provided with rubber circles on the back of the mat.

Country curtains for doorways

In the country, you can find many options for the use of both bottles and the corks themselves. Here fantasy has no limits. But the most popular idea is to decorate doorways with plastic cork curtains, it is financially economical and easy to manufacture.

And as a result - beautiful unusual curtains. This requires a large number of multi-colored caps, fishing line, awl, hammer, nail and needle.

The step-by-step scheme for making curtains looks like this:

  • The lids are perforated on both sides.
  • If the curtains are made according to the drawing, it is necessary to lay out the covers in accordance with it.
  • Corks are strung on a fishing line of a certain length, you should start from the bottom of the 1st row up, and then immediately go to the 2nd row.
  • Fasten with knots, singeing the edges of the fishing line.
  • String 3-4 rows, 5-6 rows, etc., as in paragraph 2.
  • Be sure to mark the transition from one row to another, to facilitate work.
  • Markings are made on the doors for attaching curtains with equal intervals between them.
  • On a wooden door, the curtains will be reinforced with corks for fixing, according to the markings.
  • The first thread (1-2 row) and fix it on the door with a hammer and nails.

Crafts from corks for the garden

You can decorate your summer cottage with paths made of plastic corks. But do not forget that such paths have a decorative function of the paths, and not a fundamental one. In winter they are very slippery.

To do this, you will need: corks in large quantities and different colors, sand, building glue, boards, cement.

The procedure for creating garden paths is as follows:

  • The first step is to make markings for laying corks in certain sizes and in the allotted place.
  • The top layer of earth is removed and a trench is dug 10 cm deep. A formwork of wooden boards is installed in a trench, into which sand is poured about 5 cm.
  • A cement mortar is made from sand and cement (1: 4) with the addition of glue.
  • The solution is poured into the trench, and plugs are pressed into it according to your sketch of the image. This is done neatly and evenly, on the same level, leaving only the top of the plugs without cement.
  • After coupling the cement mortar with a stiff brush, its remains are cleaned from the surface of the track.
  • At the end of the work, the formwork is removed.
  • Curbs are being installed.

By the same principles, with the involvement of multifaceted imagination, you can make other crafts using wine corks, but that's another story.

Helpful Hints

There are some things you shouldn't throw away, and wine corks are one of them.

For some crafts, just a few corks are enough, while others require a large number of them. Therefore, you can collect wine corks from acquaintances, friends, and even ask in bars and restaurants.

You will be surprised how many interesting crafts you can make from wine corks.

Here are some interesting things from traffic jams:

fridge magnets

You will need:

Round magnets (sold in multiples per pack)

Super glue or hot glue.

Round napkin holder

You will need:

Needles and threads

Ruler

Scissors.

1. Cut a few corks into rings. In this example, 8 circles were obtained from one cork.

2. Start threading cork circles and beads between them on a needle and thread. The length of the thread is about 15 cm.

3. Tie the thread into a knot.

You can decorate the table!

Handles for cabinet or chest of drawers

If you want to update an old chest of drawers or decorate a new one, then you will love this idea.

You will need:

Corks (from wine and champagne)

Screwdriver.

* If you have an old chest of drawers, then you can simply replace the handles, and if it is relatively new, then you should only use cork handles if you do not like the handles that came with the chest of drawers.

1. Insert a new bolt through the bolt hole in the box from the inside, onto which you will screw the plug. It is advisable to mark the center of each plug in advance.

2. To make a new handle, start turning the bolt with a screwdriver, holding the plug on the other side. There is another way - you can hold the bolt with a screwdriver, and screw the plug onto the bolt with your other hand.

Crafts from corks from bottles of wine

Vase

In this example, 70 corks were used, but it all depends on the size of the vase.

You will need:

Vase (preferably in the form of a cube / parallelipiped)

Super glue or hot glue

Knife to cut corks (if necessary).

1. Start placing wine corks on one side of the vase to see how they look best and how much they cover that side. You may need to trim some corks.

2. Start gluing corks to the vase. Do not use too much glue - one drop per cork is enough. Cover one side with corks, wait for the glue to dry, and move on to the other side.

DIY cork crafts

DIY necklace

You will need:

Thread and needle for embroidery

Scissors

Thimble.

1. Choose the right cork for this craft. The image shows circles cut from four different corks - the most suitable option is number 3.

2. Cut the cork into several pieces 5 mm wide. If the width is smaller, the circle may break, and if it is larger, you may injure yourself.

3. Insert the thread into the needle and start embroidering on the circle. Don't go too close to the edge of the circle so you don't break it. Make stitches close together. Figure (pattern) choose yourself. After embroidering, hide the end of the thread at the back of the circle.

4. To connect several circles, you can glue a piece of felt to the back side, to which you can glue all the circles. In addition, you can glue the circles together.

If you don't want to use glue, you can simply sew the circles together.

Crafts from corks from wine and champagne

Chandelier

You will need:

Fan grille

60-100 corks

Screw with ring (60-100 pieces)

Thread of medium thickness

pipe clamp

1. Start screwing the screws into the plugs.

2. Determine how many corks will hang on the chandelier, and what will be the length of the threads. Based on this, start cutting the right amount of threads of a certain length.

3. Tie the threads to the rings of the screws, and tie the other end in the fan grille. Make sure that the desired length is maintained, and the chandelier looks symmetrical.

4. In this example, the lattice has three bases - internal, external and the one that goes around the circle. A fourth base was created in the form of a wire installed inside the lattice. You can skip this step if three bases are enough for you, or if you decide to tie the plugs differently.

5. To make it easier to hang the chandeliers, you can attach a pipe clamp to the top of the grille and wrap it with thread or twine.

Details to hang the work (if desired).

1. Corks will have to be glued in sections, and for this you need to prepare these sections. For the first section, glue 3 plugs in the form of a pyramid.

Each row increases by one cork. Start with 3 plugs. Next, make the next row of 4 corks, then 5, and 6. Glue all the rows and get the second section.

3. Start making the last section. You need a row of 7, and then of 8 traffic jams. In turn, glue 3-4 corks to each other, and connect the parts that you have turned out to each other.

On top of a row of 8 corks, glue two segments of 3 corks.

4. Start coloring however you like. It may be necessary to paint several layers to get a bright paint. You can mix, for example, burgundy with white to get a lighter shade.

5. When the paint dries, you can glue the heart around the perimeter with tape.
