Gypsum board for ceiling. We make a plasterboard ceiling with our own hands: we strive for the perfect result. Photo of a plasterboard ceiling

are a fairly heavy structure, but, despite this, they have become widespread due to the great variability of the frame, which allows you to create multi-level structures of various configurations. They are often used in rooms with high ceilings, large halls, halls.

In apartments GVL suspended ceilings on a metal frame

used along with other types, such as, and in "Stalinka" to reduce the height of the room and in new apartments with low ceilings. With low ceilings from GVL more often do step around the perimeter rooms for built-in lamps or for mounting LED or duralight or with a stretch glossy insert as the top step. This option visually raises the central part of the ceiling, increasing the height of the room. Like all GVL structures, ceilings can be either, which gives additional opportunities to designers. All these undeniable advantages determine the popularity ceilings from GVL .

So let's start

Frame installation

At the first stage, we measure the ceiling and draw on the sheet 2 options for the layout of the frame profiles: with the main profiles along and across the room. The main profiles are set in increments of 60 cm. The extreme profiles are no more than 10 cm apart from the wall. The transverse profiles are installed in increments equal to the length of the GVL sheet (usually 2.5 m). GVL sheets are fastened apart. This technique reduces the likelihood of cracks in the ceiling. Accordingly, the transverse profiles are located. For both options, we calculate the number of required profiles, counting the trim. Choose the one with the lowest cost.

GVL ceilings on a metal frame can be painted (see article ""), but better on a non-woven base. In addition to the look, such wallpapers will give GVL ceiling structures additional strength, preventing cracking. And the finishing touch is intricate. Wish you success!

The decoration of the ceiling forms the appearance of the room, its style, the overall impression of it no less than the decoration of the walls. Colors, patterns and shapes play an important role in ceiling decoration. However, behind the external beauty of the ceiling, certain materials are hidden, which make up a beautiful picture, a lot of work on installation and the design of the ceiling preceding it.

gypsum ceilings

Perhaps, gypsum ceilings are one of the most popular types of ceilings. Drywall has gained popularity due to its relatively low price and good performance.

One of its main advantages is the ability to quickly reach a flat surface, hide all ceiling irregularities, height differences, plate joints, wiring and communications. An equally valuable property of drywall is giving it various shapes and bends, the possibility of further finishing in various ways.

Different types of drywall are used for different rooms: moisture-resistant drywall is used in the bathroom and kitchen, fire-resistant drywall is used in fire-hazardous rooms and seismically active zones, ordinary drywall is used at normal humidity and in conditions that are not conducive to fires.

A relatively flat ceiling can simply be pasted over with drywall. With significant differences in height, a wooden crate or profile frame is used. Mounting drywall on a wooden crate, even when treated with water-repellent compounds in the bathroom, is undesirable.

A metal profile is the most versatile base for mounting gypsum ceilings. Such a frame allows you to create ceilings of different designs and heights. A variety of fasteners and parts allows you to qualitatively attach the frame to different bases. For example, in a wooden house that is subject to shrinkage, it is recommended to install a floating ceiling with loose fittings.

The secret of a smooth plasterboard ceiling is the correct installation of the frame. Therefore, when installing such a ceiling with your own hands, special attention should be paid to setting the crate according to the level.

One of the most famous manufacturers of GKL is the German company Knauf. A standard sheet of ceiling drywall with a thickness of 9.5 mm, a length of 2.5 m from Knauf in Moscow will cost about 225 rubles, in Kyiv - 53 hryvnia.

GVL ceiling

GVL ceiling is an order of magnitude stronger than drywall. It is recommended to do a hemmed ceiling with the help of GVL. GVLV sheets will be good for the bathroom.

Installation of gypsum fiber boards is no different from assembling a plasterboard ceiling. It should be borne in mind that the GVL hemmed ceiling will have a lot of weight, so the fasteners must be frequent and rigid.

The price for a GVL sheet from the same Knauf company is much higher than for GKL: in Moscow, 134 rubles / m. sq., in Kyiv - 230 hryvnia / sheet.

MDF ceiling

If you want a light and beautiful ceiling that can be decorated quickly and inexpensively, then the choice will fall on the MDF ceiling.

Its beauty is in the speed of assembly. The frame under MDF is usually mounted wooden, like under drywall, but the slats are installed in only one direction - perpendicular to how the sheets will be mounted, and MDF is attached to the slats much easier - you can use self-tapping screws, or you can use a stapler. Each panel is inserted into the groove of the previous one.

The advantage of such a ceiling is that its assembly is the final stage of finishing work. MDF panels do not require additional plastering, puttying or painting. They are a ready-to-use coating that is also easy to clean.

One of the good manufacturers of MDF - Kronospan. The price of a square meter of MDF is about 50 hryvnia, that is, about 200 rubles.

Plywood ceiling

Plywood is one of the most environmentally friendly materials for finishing the ceiling among the above. This is her main advantage. However, glued wood veneer is water resistant and requires caution regarding fire safety. Also, the plywood ceiling should be as flat as possible before it is installed.

The frame for plywood is mounted from wooden horizontal and intermediate rails and bars, to which plywood sheets are nailed. So that the ceiling does not subsequently deform, the thickness of the plywood should be sufficient, the humidity in the room should be normal, and the plywood should preferably be laminated for additional moisture resistance. The fewer seams, the more aesthetically plywood ceiling will look. Therefore, it is advised to fasten sheets equal in length to the length of the ceiling. The plywood ceiling is usually opened with varnish, paint or wallpaper.

A sheet, such as softwood plywood, costs about 900 rubles.

wooden ceiling

A wooden ceiling will cost more than many other types of finishes. but it's justified. Natural, healthy, solid, strong, suitable for any interior, beautiful material - a lot can be said about wood.

Having returned to interior fashion, wood trim has reached a new level - it has become elite. Although in the past, not everyone could afford a skillfully made wooden ceiling - centuries later, you can see the preserved vaults of castles and houses of the aristocracy.

As far as modern applications are concerned, suspended or false ceiling made of wood is possible in almost any room, but it doesn't make sense everywhere. In a low Khrushchev, a ceiling made of solid wood will look rough, and it’s problematic to install (although everything is possible), but in a house with wooden beam ceilings, it’s the place for it.

If it is possible to sheathe the ceiling with wood, do not neglect it. However, choosing a tree for home decoration, you need to remember about special measures to protect it from moisture and fire.

When making repairs with your own hands, you need to take into account the rules for installing electrical wiring on combustible grounds, use protective and moisture-repellent agents for wood processing and take into account the aesthetic component. First, choose the color and type of wood, taking into account the lighting, color scheme and size of the room. For example, a dark wooden ceiling will greatly reduce the height of the room. And secondly, take into account that the tree obliges the interior to match: an exclusive ceiling requires wall decoration, furniture and decor to match itself.

In a classic interior, wooden coffered ceilings will look impressive. Coffered ceilings have figured recesses, usually rectangular, covered with carvings.

It is very difficult to orientate on the cost of such ceilings - basically, firms offering wooden panels and installation of ceilings from them write about the contractual price. Therefore, if you want to know the order of numbers, you need to send a request or call directly to the companies from which the offer comes.

Cork ceiling

Wood is a great material, but for damp and heavily cleaned areas such as kitchens and bathrooms, it is problematic to use. Cork ceiling is the perfect solution for such rooms.

The cork covering for a ceiling does not collect dirt and is not afraid of moisture.

Cork is a healthy, environmentally friendly material with excellent sound and heat insulation, so it is applicable in bedrooms and nurseries. The versatility of cork is explained not only by its properties, but also by its natural pattern, which is somewhat reminiscent of textured plaster.

From the cork of several colors on the ceiling, you can lay out a picture, you can put any print on the cork sheet. Cork can be combined with other materials, but the most healthy effect will be achieved with their maximum naturalness.

Cork ceilings - adhesive ceilings, therefore, they require the use of special glue and some preparation of the base for gluing. Cork sheets are produced with a special protective coating, but for the best protection against moisture, you need to follow the base material on which the cork is glued - it should not be sensitive to moisture.

You can buy cork panels at any building supermarket. Installing a cork on the ceiling will cost at least 400 rubles per square meter.

stained glass ceilings

Stained glass ceilings are another elite type of ceiling decoration. But if a tree is a rich nobility, then a stained glass window is a transparent sophistication.

Stained glass windows on the ceiling can be a mosaic made of glass, made by hand, or can be made in one of the stained glass techniques to order.

Usually stained-glass windows are mounted on a false ceiling in the same way as Armstrong is mounted. Drawing on stained glass can be applied by photo printing, or maybe with real stained glass paints. Light sources are placed behind the stained-glass window, due to which the effect of transparency of the ceiling, its proximity to the sky, is achieved. Stained glass windows can be used in any room, but they look most impressive in large living rooms and bathrooms.

The price of a stained-glass ceiling bites - a square meter in Kyiv can cost about 5,000 hryvnias (20,000 rubles).

french ceiling

Stretch French ceiling - finishing no less popular than drywall.

The so-called euro ceilings, that is, the coatings that are talked about when referring to European-style ceiling repairs, are less environmentally friendly than the materials described above. Stretch euro ceilings are made from synthetics - PVC films, but are very convenient for creating a perfectly flat surface. The film can be non-flammable and with improved performance in relation to the release of harmful substances.

One of the main advantages of this material is seamless ceilings. They come in different sizes and colors, matte, glossy, transparent, take on different bends and shapes, and are quickly mounted. Satin stretch ceilings look very nice, repeating the texture of the satin material.

A special type of stretch ceilings - 3d ceilings. 3D ceilings are produced using photo printing and under normal lighting do not differ much from ordinary ones. Depth and volume of the image become visible when specially located illumination turns on. You can mount such a ceiling anywhere, but if the design of the room is headed for naturalness, for example, in a wooden house, then it is better for him to find a natural alternative.

One of the French manufacturers of ceiling films is Alkor Draka. The price of a stretch ceiling can be different. For example, 3D ceilings - the price will be more than ordinary seamless ceilings, the price of which starts from 4500 rubles or 1300 hryvnia for the smallest.

cold ceiling

It turns out that a whole air conditioning system can be hidden behind a false ceiling. The cold ceiling is hidden from view, takes up very little space and cools not the air, but objects.

In order to enjoy such a wonderful development, capillary mats are built into the surface of the ceiling, for example clina, consisting of tubes through which cold water circulates. A network of pipes, a refrigeration unit and control automation provide a comfortable microclimate in any room.

It is convenient to install a cold ceiling at once on the whole house or apartment. The price of a cold ceiling will be higher than the cost of installing a conventional air conditioner, but the effect will be greater.

For each room there are the most optimal design options. For example, to make a ceiling on a balcony with your own hands, you can choose different materials from the above, but it is unlikely to be stained glass or precious woods.

Finishing the floor can be done with a variety of materials. A good solution would be to make a ceiling from gvl. Such panels are made of gypsum, as well as, however, they have a number of significant differences in composition and production technology, which makes them an even more preferable option for decorating a ceiling structure.

Differences between GKL and GVL

The usual drywall is a gypsum base placed in a “cover” of two layers of special cardboard. The gypsum fiber panel does not have such a shell. This material has a completely homogeneous structure. Due to this, it differs from hl for the better in many characteristics:

  • The density of gypsum fiber panels is almost twice as high
  • This finish withstands large temperature fluctuations - even negative temperatures are not terrible for her.
  • hl is one third lower than that of gypsum fiber panels
  • Gypsum fiber has great resistance to fire
  • High density makes GVL much stronger - a screw screwed into such a plane can withstand weight up to 30 kilograms
  • This surface is more resistant to moisture.

The remaining properties of gypsum fiber boards are similar to gypsum board counterparts. They are mounted on the frame in the same way and require exactly the same finishing as drywall constructions. If desired, gvl ceilings can be of the most unusual shapes, easily mounted at several levels, and so on.

Flaws

This design also has some disadvantages compared to the traditionally used GKL. There are not too many of them, but some of the available nuances may influence the choice of one or another finish option.

  • Gypsum fiber is more difficult to process. Higher density and strength will do their job here - the panels are more difficult to cut and give them a curvilinear shape is much more difficult.
  • The weight of the structure will be greater than that of the same plasterboard surface with an equal coating thickness.
  • It is much more difficult to bend a gypsum fiber sheet than a conventional gypsum part, and the “wet” method, successfully used with gypsum boards, will not be effective here.
  • The cost of registration from GVL will be higher than that of a similarly shaped structure assembled using conventional gypsum sheets.

If all of the above disadvantages are not too significant for you, then this type of finish will be more preferable due to improved performance.

Installation subtleties

Unlike drywall, such plates are much heavier and an assistant will certainly be required to install them on the frame. Alone, you can also cope with such work, but you need to have a special device in the form of a frame that lifts a heavy part to the ceiling or several telescopic racks that perform the same function.

When attaching parts, it is necessary to step back from the edge by at least one centimeter. This will prevent the edge of the attached fragment from splitting when the screw is screwed in. Cutting fragments is best done not with a clerical knife, as is the case with GKL, but with a special circular saw or jigsaw. The high density and uniformity of the panels will not allow the panels to be cut evenly into fragments in the usual way.

During installation, the edges of adjacent fragments of the coating must be coated with special glue, which will allow you to assemble a continuous surface without cracks and rough joints. All joints of the coating fragments after the complete assembly of the surface must be puttied using a reinforcing tape. Like gypsum sheet, a piece made of gypsum fiber will require chamfering where the sheets have been cut. The chamfer is removed with a special planer until a recess is obtained at the junction of two parts to each other.

Subsequently, this small recess will allow you to apply a layer of putty that masks the junction. To make the installation process more understandable, a few photos below show how gvl ceilings are assembled - the process is very similar to installing a conventional drywall composition.

The ceiling of GVL (gypsum fiber) is an excellent choice for repairing a room. When using this material, there is no need for a "wet" method of surface finishing.

You can use gypsum fiber when finishing any premises, it is not afraid of high temperatures and moisture.

Gypsum fiber can be used for finishing any premises, its scope is practically unlimited.

This material is similar in its characteristics to drywall and is a healthy competitor to it. In addition to its distinctive features, GVL includes almost all the positive properties of drywall.

Advantages of using GVL

  1. Naturalness and ecological cleanliness. GVL in its composition has almost no harmful impurities and consists mainly of components of natural origin. This type of ceiling covering is not only safe from an environmental point of view, but also has a direct impact on the creation of a favorable microclimate. With increased humidity of the room, gypsum fiber absorbs excess moisture, and with a dry microclimate, it gives (releasing) it back.
  2. Water resistance. Compared to drywall, the ceiling made of GVL is much more resistant to the effects of a humid environment. There is a special type of gypsum fiber (GVLV). It is used as a finishing material in bathrooms, toilets and kitchens, that is, in rooms with high humidity.
  3. Fire resistance. GVL is able to withstand the effects of fire, although not for a very long period of time. To increase the level of fire resistance, a special type of plate is used - GVLVO or GVLO. Their cost is more than usual.
  4. Soundproofing. GVL slabs perfectly absorb noise.
  5. Thermal insulation. The material retains heat well in the room.
  6. Strength. The bearing capacity and strength of GVL boards is very high. For example, a screw screwed into a GVL can withstand loads weighing up to 30 kg.

In addition to the above, the gypsum fiber ceiling coating is an ideally even base for future coatings (wallpaper, paint, decorative plaster, etc.).

Disadvantages of gypsum fiber ceilings

A jigsaw or a hand-held circular saw is best for cutting the sheet.

The weight of gypsum fiber is much heavier than that of the same drywall, therefore, an additional load is created on the floors. But the load exerted is not so significant as to deny yourself the use of GVL.

It is only necessary before installation to make sure that the base base of the ceiling is strong and reliable. The cost of the material is quite high, especially if you buy fire-resistant (GVLO) or moisture-resistant (GVLV) types of it. Labor intensity. There are 2 aspects that complicate the work with gypsum fiber:

  • gvl, in comparison with drywall, is much more difficult to process, it is difficult to bend, and, accordingly, it is very difficult to arrange curved surfaces;
  • do-it-yourself installation of the structure alone is very difficult, since the GVL boards have a significant weight.

After analyzing all of the above and comparing which is better: gypsum fiber or drywall, it is impossible to answer unambiguously.

It all depends on the room in which the materials will be fixed, operating conditions and design solutions associated with the ceiling.

The technology of laying gypsum fiber on the ceiling

Fixing a gypsum fiber ceiling may require the following tools:

Before the installation of each sheet, it is required to apply special glue to the entire length of its end part in the place where the GVL plates will come into contact with each other.

  • building level;
  • square;
  • chopping cord;
  • drill;
  • roulette;
  • a set of spatulas;
  • perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • construction knife;
  • impeller (grinder);
  • screwdriver;
  • a hammer;
  • pliers.

Preparatory stage

GVL are designed to level the surface of the ceiling. As a result, they do not require special preparatory work. It is only required to remove dirt (rust, mold), if any, and remove old finishing materials.

Although you can do without it, if no real interference is created for the subsequent installation of GVL slabs. For example, coatings such as wallpaper, old paint, etc. can be left undisturbed.

In addition, the ceiling, if desired, can be insulated with special heat-insulating plates. They perform not only the function of keeping the heat in the room, but also provide protection from extraneous noise.

Marking before subsequent installation of the frame

It is impossible to mount a wooden crate in rooms with a high level of humidity; such a frame needs special treatment with antifungal solutions for wood.

Due to the fact that GVL boards have a much greater weight than drywall boards, they are possible only if there is a frame.

Such an option as fixing gypsum fiber with glue is simply unacceptable. This is unsafe from the point of view of the strength characteristics of the structure.

Therefore, the first step is to mark the ceiling surface. To do this, you need to decide on the design of the future false ceiling.

Ceiling fastening can be done in two ways.

The first method is based on the construction of a crate made of wooden bars. With the help of them, you can create a pretty good frame for mounting gypsum fiber sheets. However, it is possible to use bars only in rooms with normal humidity (children's room, living room, etc.). It is impossible to mount a wooden crate in rooms with a high level of humidity (toilet, bathroom) or in rooms where the temperature is not constant, for example, a kitchen, since wood tends to change its size in such conditions. In the future, this may cause deformation of the ceiling surface.

The second method involves fixing the ceiling to a metal profile. Structures of this type can be built in any room, but it takes a little more time. In addition, the cost of a metal frame is much higher than a wooden one. The future and all the necessary materials for the construction of the frame depend on which option is chosen.

To calculate the required number of component materials, you can use the construction online calculator. With its help, you can make not only calculations, but also determine the layout of the room, taking into account its relief.

For finishing ceilings and ceilings, you can use a very large number of different materials. One of the good finishing options will be a do-it-yourself GVL ceiling. This material, in terms of its main characteristics and properties, is not too different from the usual drywall, and therefore, it will not be difficult to work.

What is GVL

As follows from the abbreviation GVL, this is a gypsum fiber sheet with properties similar to GKL. However, they have differences both in the material from which such parts are made, and in performance. The most significant differences between this material and drywall are as follows:

  • The gypsum composition that forms the basis of the sheet is more homogeneous and does not have a cardboard shell
  • Sheet density is much higher than standard drywall
  • Due to the higher density, such coatings will weigh more than drywall
  • The gypsum fiber sheet has excellent frost resistance, exceeding the same parameter for GKL by more than three times.
  • Gypsum fiber boards have better soundproofing characteristics
  • Resistance to fire and water in GVL is also higher than that of GKL

Other characteristics of these two materials are very similar. They are mounted according to the same principle, have approximately the same dimensions and allow you to independently assemble very beautiful compositions.

The main stages of installation

It will be somewhat more difficult to assemble a structure from such plates than when working with gypsum boards, since the density and weight of the parts will be greater. However, there are no significant differences in the principle of assembly. The main stages of the assembly of the structure are as follows:

  • Surface preparation
  • Frame installation
  • Wiring and installation of all technical communications
  • Laying insulation or soundproofing if necessary
  • sheathing
  • surface finishing

In order to understand in detail how to assemble a GVL ceiling with your own hands, it is easy to find fairly detailed video instructions on the Internet, where the process is shown in detail. Here we consider only the main points of the installation of such a coating.

Preparatory operations

In fact, when installing such suspended compositions, there is no special need for floor preparation. It is enough to clean all the areas where the old coating moves away from the floor slab or other base.

If preparation is not required, it remains only to carry out marking work and it will be possible to begin assembling the frame. Proper marking is very important to create a beautiful and durable design, so you should pay enough attention to this stage of work.

Base assembly

For installation, you can use the same profiles that go to the base under the GKL. There will be no difference in this part of the work - the base is assembled exactly according to the same principles as for drywall. The only point that should be given more attention is the strength of the frame.

Finishing with gypsum fiber has a greater weight than conventional gypsum sheets and therefore, the strength of the structure in this case should be greater. No special additions to the standard frame are required, you just need to carefully control the adhesion strength of the hangers to the floor and walls.

Surface plating

At this stage, for the first time, we will have to face some differences in the principles of assembly. The gypsum-fiber components of the coating are not just screwed to the frame with self-tapping screws, but also require gluing the ends of the elements with special glue when connecting.

Cutting parts is also carried out differently - more “serious” tools are needed, since the density of the material will not allow it to be cut with an ordinary clerical knife. A circular saw or a jigsaw is better suited here. When cutting, a large amount of gypsum dust appears, therefore, care should be taken to protect the respiratory organs with a special mask - a respirator.

Otherwise, the assembly of the structure takes place in the same way as the structures from standard gypsum sheets. You just need to take into account the greater weight of the elements and use the help of another person, or use lifting mechanisms like telescopic racks that will allow you to lift heavy fragments of the coating to the ceiling. types of paint, even with a glossy effect. The use of this type of paint on standard concrete substrates is difficult as it will reveal all the slightest irregularities. In the case of gypsum-fiber boards, there is no such problem - after puttying and sanding, the plane will be perfectly flat and it is safe to say that gvl ceilings are even glossy.
