How to glue PVC tiles on the floor: detailed instructions. Features of pvc, types of glue for this tile, technology for laying on walls and floors Universal adhesive for pvc tiles

There are many varieties of tile adhesive. Considering the type of work being carried out, the base on top of which the cladding will be attached, the material with which the coating will be made, tile adhesive is selected. For example, if vinyl briquettes are used when working on the interior decoration of a room, then a special connecting mixture must be selected.

This flooring will need vinyl tile adhesive. Registration can be carried out outdoor (decoration of facades of buildings) or internal (decoration of premises). To carry out work on the street, the binder component must be moisture resistant, heat resistant (both at low temperatures and at high temperatures). When performing internal repairs, it is also necessary to take into account the purpose of the room, you may also need moisture-resistant glue.

PVC surfaces are in no way inferior to other types of tiles, rather they are superior to all other surfaces. Due to its plasticity, lightness, compactness, PVC boards are simple, more convenient than others, environmentally friendly, and have a high level of wear resistance. It is permissible to lay out the cladding not only on top of the floor, but it is also possible to decorate the walls.

Quartz vinyl boards can be used even when laying underfloor heating.

Polyvinyl chloride coatings are divided into many varieties according to different criteria.

For example, according to the production method, the PVC surface is divided into:

  • pressed - produced thanks to special plasticizers, in order to improve the quality, the entire composition is compressed;
  • quartz vinyl - such a coating is made using natural quartz as a basis.

    Varieties of tile adhesive

    Tile adhesive differs according to many criteria, but at first it is distinguished by the form of production.

    Among such an abundance of glue, it is difficult to choose the right mixture. You will need a special adhesive for PVC tiles to connect the vinyl flooring. What kind of adhesive should be used for vinyl tiles, do I need a separate adhesive for quartz vinyl tiles?

    What is the feature of the adhesive suitable for PVC boards

    The connecting composition is really special, has many differences:

    • withstands low temperatures;
    • stable in a humid environment;
    • provides reliable adhesion of the cladding and the base;
    • withstands elevated temperatures, which allows it to be used with underfloor heating systems.

    Remember! To choose the right adhesive mixture, you need to pay attention to some circumstances:

    • the purpose of the room being designed should be taken into account;
    • pay attention to the material from which the base for covering is made;
    • determine, take into account the temperature regime, the level of humidity;
    • take into account the load, which will further affect the coating in the future.

    Watch the video to find out more:

    Only by clearly understanding what material is used and for what purpose, in the premises for which purpose, under what conditions the connection will be made, only then the selection of the right adhesive will not cause you any difficulties, the process itself will be completed successfully. Based on this, several types of glue are distinguished when installing PVC flooring.

    Types of adhesive suitable for PVC tiles

    The binder component, resembling a PVC cladding, is divided into several types, based on the constituent components and its purpose.

    Each type of glue has a complex composition, individual characteristics, methods of use. The question arises, how to glue PVC tiles on the floor.

    Mounting Features

    Lay vinyl tiles on the floor without the use of glue, like a laminate. There is also a self-adhesive tile, which does not require any special care, just remove the adhesive tape. The installation process of other types of PVC coatings has several features.

    • before gluing the plates, you need to clean the base from debris, dust, you need to level it;
    • plates must be glued to the base, starting from the center of the surface to be glued;
    • the layout of the plates can be made according to the type of layout of the laminate, one after the other or according to the principle of the pyramid;
    • prepare an adhesive solution to mix the composition, it is better to use a construction mixer;
    • to apply the paste you will need a notched trowel;
    • excess adhesive should be removed immediately with a damp cloth, as dried excess will be difficult to remove;
    • mounted tile briquettes must be tapped with a rubber mallet, rolled with a roller so that adhesion to the base is better;
    • the pasted surface can only be used after a minimum of 24 hours, a maximum of 48 hours.

    From the video you will learn all the necessary information:

    Perhaps experienced craftsmen know the intricacies of the process of laying this type of flooring, but not everyone has such information, so novice craftsmen need to be aware of some points that arise during the installation process.

    • before sticking PVC boards over a concrete base, you need to check it for condensation. You can attach the oilcloth to the base with tape and leave it overnight. If condensate has collected, then the base must be dried;
    • it is worth thinking over the principle of laying in advance, sketching out a diagram, especially when laying with rhombuses;
    • work should be fast, because the adhesive composition dries quickly;
    • if necessary, cut off part of the cladding, it is better to do this after attaching the whole briquette.

    PVC briquettes are durable, have an attractive appearance, are easy to install, therefore they are quite relevant. From vinyl material, you can lay out the floor according to the design idea, using several shades or textures of the material. Such a covering requires a special adhesive composition, thanks to which it will last for many years. For example: a two-component or heat-activated component may be suitable for quartz-vinyl tiles - this material is used more often for underfloor heating.

    When choosing a connecting composition, you should not be guided by well-known manufacturers or high prices. The right adhesive can be chosen only by knowing what material will be used, what kind of work it requires. In order for the process to end with a good result, you need to take into account some features of the installation, correctly, according to the instructions, work with glue.

    Important! The adhesive liquid must be applied very carefully: some types seize instantly, therefore, it will not be possible to correct the errors that have arisen.

    Compared with the installation of other types of cladding, the process of joining PVC boards is quite simple and a pleasure. Due to the abundance of adhesive composition, PVC tiles can be connected in almost any room.

    Good luck with your choice and easy installation!

Among the methods of fixing the facing coating, the most popular is fastening with the help of an adhesive composition. Glue for PVC tiles is used in facing works, mainly when laying large-sized elements.

The adhesive mixture is suitable for finishing surfaces that are subject to increased loads or strong vibrations. This fixing method can also be used on underfloor heating. To mount the material on their own, novice masters should listen to a number of rules and recommendations.

Polyvinyl chloride tiles are manufactured under high pressure, which provides the material with high density and reliability. At the same time, the lining remains plastic and flexible. The reverse side of the tile is made of fiberglass with a rough surface.

After applying the adhesive, the cladding is securely fixed to the floor or wall. To provide additional protection, a transparent polyurethane film is glued to the front surface of PVC floor panels.

Polyvinyl chloride is distinguished not only by strength and flexibility, but also by a variety of colors and textures. The material is suitable for use in rooms with a high percentage of humidity. He is not afraid of temperature changes and exposure to household chemicals.

How to choose the right material?

There are some requirements for the surface on which PVC wall tiles will be laid. It is well fixed only on a flat and clean surface. Before PVC, the floor surface should be primed for better adhesion.

Before laying, it is necessary to take into account the required adhesive consumption. The number of available PVC panels in the total area should slightly exceed the dimensions of the room in which they will be laid. The remaining tiles are used to replace damaged coating elements.

Types of glue

Not only the aesthetic appearance, but also the reliability of the flooring, the strength of its fixation and service life depend on the correctly selected adhesive. When choosing an adhesive composition, it is necessary to take into account the conditions under which the installation will be carried out (humidity and temperature).

For gluing products made of polyvinyl chloride, ready-made adhesive solutions based on acrylic are best suited. They provide low consumption and high adhesion. Popular options include BOSTIK KU 320 and Ceresit Thomsit K 188E.

There are also special compositions for pvc tiles. They have their own characteristics and advantages over other mixtures. Adhesive for pvc tiles has a polymer base, which provides a number of advantages:

  1. Use on a surface with any level of adhesion;
  2. Good hitch;
  3. Great time for adjustment and ease of use;
  4. High level of fire safety.

The disadvantages include the fact that such glue cannot be used for cladding facades and on a concrete floor if there is no insulation. Since it is not designed for cold and can collapse.

The most popular firms and compositions are: THOMSIT UK 400, THOMSIT K188E, DECO BOND SSANGKOM, HOMAKOLL 208 and others.

Required Tools

For high-quality laying of PVC coatings with your own hands, you should have the following tools with you:

  • yardstick;
  • construction knife;
  • spatulas with replaceable blades;
  • wooden or rubber mallet;
  • tamping roller;
  • rag or sponge.

Foundation preparation

Laying PVC tiles on the floor begins with the preparation of the surface to be tiled. First of all, the coating is checked for integrity and uniformity of the structure. The floor must be clean, dry and level. When washing the floor before laying, it is worth refraining from using acid-based detergents. Irregularities in the concrete floor must be leveled with cement mortar.

Installation of PVC tiles on plywood is similar to laying on a wooden floor. Cracks in the floorboard must be repaired without the use of polymer or plastic materials. It is not recommended to use staples or nails.

The technology of laying PVC tiles on tiles also has some nuances. Glaze from the ceramic lining of the base must be removed by grinding. Cement mortar is used to smooth joints and irregularities.

Styling options

Installation of PVC tiles is very variable. It is placed not only along or across, but also diagonally. Most often they make up a monotonous pattern. When laying PVC tiles, you can create a whole composition of elements of suitable shades and sizes.

PVC coating can be laid in a deck, herringbone, square or checkerboard pattern. The layout can be combined and combine tiles of different colors and textures.

Technology

Like any other material, PVC has some installation features. In the beginning, you should pick up one element of the cladding. An arrow is drawn on its reverse side showing the direction of gluing. It is important that all slabs are laid in the same direction. This creates a correct and beautiful picture on the floor.

Proper laying of PVC tiles starts from the center of the room. First, a line should be drawn through the center of the room from one wall to the opposite. After applying the adhesive to the surface of the tile, the first row is laid according to this line. The next line is mounted close to the previous one. The coating should be glued away from you.

For reliable fixation, the panels are tapped with a mallet or palm. Rubber rollers are used to get rid of air bubbles. It is necessary to ensure that the tile fits groove into groove. So the joints will be less visible. It is necessary to cut the plates with a construction knife with a sharp blade.

Excess glue is immediately removed from the surface of the coating with a sponge. The rag is moistened with polish or alcohol and the lining is carefully wiped. After the glue dries, it will be almost impossible to remove it from the front side of the tile.

The total running time is 8-10 hours for a medium sized room. During the laying of the tiles and the drying of the adhesive, the temperature in the room is maintained at +20…+25°С and low air humidity is maintained. It will be possible to install furniture and equip the room only after 72 hours.

Recently, PVC tiles have been in high demand. On the modern building materials market, a huge range of plates is presented: a variety of design options for all colors and sizes. You will need a quality tile adhesive to securely fasten them. First of all, it is necessary to determine the type of this solution.

How to choose?

If you want to carry out repairs in your own house or apartment on your own, then you will certainly have to face the issue of choosing high-quality tiles and proven glue. This is really important. Regarding the choice of adhesive for tiles, you can give some good advice. You should definitely pay attention to them. It should be noted right away that all materials must be of high quality, reliable, so that there are no problems with further operation.

Buy building materials only from trusted stores that you trust.

After you have finally decided on a hardware store, you must also choose the type of tile adhesive. So, there is a tile solution in the form of a paste. It is already completely ready for use. There is also an option, which is a regular dry mix. It must be properly diluted, carefully prepared. This mixture can also be applied to plywood.

Among specialists in the field of construction, there is a consensus that working with conventional pastes is inconvenient. That is why most professionals advise buying dry tile adhesive. This is one of the most common options. It is not difficult to dilute the composition with ordinary water in the required proportions, so this process will not take much time. Dry mix guarantees high performance, and its price is quite acceptable.

When buying, you need to consider a few more nuances:

  • The consumption of glue depends on the structure of the base, the thickness of the applied adhesive layer, the spatula used during the work.
  • The adhesive is sold in packs of 5 kg, 12 kg and 25 kg.
  • It is quite easy to remove the remains of the composition from hands and tools under running water.
  • The guaranteed shelf life of the adhesive is one year.
  • When installing vinyl tile flooring, an acrylic composition with a pasty structure is more reliable and practical. Thanks to these qualities, the glue lies on the rough base in an even layer.

Acrylic composition

Different types of floor coverings are installed in different ways, and one of the most common is installation with glue. This method is ideal for installing PVC floor tiles. To choose the right glue, you need to take into account the type of coating, humidity in the room. The epoxy composition of the adhesive depends on this.

In some cases, acrylic dispersion adhesive is more suitable, which has several advantages:

  • Not toxic. Safe for human health.
  • Due to a certain structure, it does not spread over the surface, sticks together any materials. It can be used on various surfaces.
  • Without smell. Resistant to high humidity, to fire.
  • Dries quickly to bond surfaces.
  • In case of incorrect laying of tiles, the work can be corrected within half an hour.
  • When working with the composition, there is no need for additional precautions.
  • After a day, the surfaces to be glued can be subjected to maximum loads.

It is possible to achieve the desired result only if all the conditions for using acrylic adhesive are met:

  • Temperature regime. The minimum temperature in the room should not be lower than +10 degrees.
  • Glue should not be applied to a wet rough base.
  • Spread the adhesive evenly over the surface using a special notched trowel.
  • If glue gets on the front side of the tile, carefully remove the glue with a soft cloth and an alcohol solution. Otherwise, it will be much more difficult to do this.
  • Before starting work, you need to make sure that the subfloor is clean. The surface must be dry and even.

Kinds

Among the huge number of manufacturers, Thomsit and Homakol can be distinguished, which have proven themselves well. High-quality products of these companies are in great demand.

There are several types of adhesive that are most suitable for mounting vinyl tiles:

  • Universal composition ideal for floor covering installation. It is resistant to mechanical stress, elastic. According to the specifications, it is more suitable for indoor use. Environmentally friendly. Only solvents of organic origin are used in the production. It is allowed to use it when equipping the "warm floor" system.
  • Thomsit K 188 E. This composition helps to improve the sound and heat insulation qualities of the floor covering. The presence of polymer components in the composition means that the adhesive cannot be used when laying on absorbent substrates. It has established itself as an environmentally friendly material.

  • Deko Bond Ssangkom. This composition can be used on any basis. Before starting work, you need to carefully prepare the surface. It must be clean and dry. The peculiarity of this adhesive is that its use is allowed at high air temperatures in the room. Complete hardening of the glue occurs in a day. It is allowed to correct the position of the glued tiles within half an hour. The composition is safe for human health.
  • Homakoll 208. The composition contains acrylic components. Suitable for bonding all surfaces except foam. Economical: under certain temperature conditions, about 1 kg of adhesive will be enough to treat a surface of 2 to 4 square meters.

How to make a solution?

The number of special tile adhesives is large, but there are very few ready-made compositions, so you often have to make the solution yourself. The best option is a cement mortar, for which cement and sand are taken in proportions of 1: 4. The dry mixture must be diluted with water to a creamy consistency. For a more reliable fixation of the tile, you can add PVA glue to the water in a ratio of approximately 1: 18.

It is easier to work with specialized mastics and tile adhesives, but they can only be used on a perfectly flat surface that has been plastered or coated with paint based on any oil.

How to work with most adhesives is indicated on the packaging, as well as the conditions of use, as well as the required temperature conditions in the room. To work with tile or cement mortar, a special container is required, the size of which depends on the amount of work to be done. It is necessary to put a small amount of dry product into it, add water in small portions.

Then it is necessary to mix the adhesive composition thoroughly with a spatula until the mass becomes homogeneous and stops flowing. Do not regret at this stage of time, because lumps can interfere with the correct laying of tiles on the surface. If you need a lot of mortar, then you can use a construction mixer.

PVC floor tiles have gained great popularity among owners who prefer to do repairs in the apartment on their own. This is a durable and beautiful material that is easy to fit and works well. However, very often, one can hear complaints about the peeling of PVC tiles from the surface, which spoils the appearance and leads to damage to the tile itself. The cause of delamination is non-compliance with the installation technology or inappropriate adhesive for PVC tiles.

Benefits of adhesives for PVC tiles

The main advantage of mixtures for plastic tiles is their polymer base, which provides a number of advantages over other types of compositions. The main advantages include:

  • The ability to use on surfaces with any level of absorption, which allows them to be used on concrete and wooden surfaces, as well as to lay PVC tiles on polymer floors and ceramic base;
  • Excellent initial adhesion to materials due to polymer components;
  • Long adjustment time, 15 to 30 minutes in case of incorrect tiling;
  • Ease of application with a notched trowel;
  • During use, it does not emit toxic substances and is practically odorless;
  • High level of fire safety coating.

Before you glue PVC tiles on the floor, you need to consider one important drawback. Glue for PVC tiles, in most cases, is made only for indoor use and does not tolerate cold. Such glue cannot be used on a concrete base if the floor is not insulated or there is a cold basement under it. This will cause the adhesive to peel off the concrete or wood.

Important. When using glue, the temperature in the working room should not be lower than + 18 degrees and not higher than +24. At low temperatures, the adhesive becomes very thick, its consumption increases significantly and it takes longer to cure. At a high temperature of more than 25 degrees, the glue becomes liquid and will not allow you to apply the desired thickness for high-quality styling.

It is also necessary to comply with humidity indicators, for a wooden base no more than 12%, and for a concrete or cement base no more than 80%.

Types of glue for PVC tiles

When deciding how to glue PVC tiles to concrete, we recommend paying attention to already proven and high-quality manufacturers, such as Thomsit and Homakol, based on our own experience and numerous consumer reviews. Next, consider the specific types of adhesives from these manufacturers that are best suited for laying PVC tiles.

Universal adhesive for the installation of textiles and PVC tiles on surfaces with an absorbent base, such as cement or concrete screed. Used for interior work. Possesses high adhesion and elasticity, well transfers influence of legs of heavy furniture. Glue can also be used when laying the underfloor heating system. The composition does not have solvents of organic origin and is considered environmentally friendly. It should be stored in a warm place, however short-term exposure to cold, for example during transportation, will not affect the quality of the adhesive. The average cost is $26 for a 14 kg capacity.

Thomsit K188E

Adhesive for PVC tiles Thomsit K188E special purpose is used for laying tiles on non-absorbent bases due to the large number of polymer components in the composition. Like its previous counterpart, the adhesive is considered environmentally friendly and does not contain vegetable solvents. The composition has increased heat-insulating and sound-proofing performance. The average cost is $ 26 for 14 kg.

Deco Bond SSANGKOM

The manufacturer of this adhesive is South Korea and it is also used as a universal compound for bases with poor and good moisture absorption. Before gluing PVC tiles with this adhesive, the surface must be carefully prepared. It is used for interior work on laying PVC tiles in domestic and public buildings. Environmentally friendly and its curing time is 20 to 27 hours. Tile adjustment time is from 20 to 30 minutes depending on the temperature. A feature of the adhesive is the ability to use at temperatures from +5 to +50 degrees Celsius. The price of the adhesive composition is from 12 to 18 dollars for a 10 kg container.

Homakol glue for PVC tiles is made on the basis of PVA glue with the addition of acrylic resins and is universal for different types of surfaces. Depending on the temperature in the room, one kilogram of glue is enough to cover the surface from 2 to 4 square meters. The composition is a white liquid mass, which is poured onto the surface and distributed with a spatula. The cost of the composition is $ 20 for 14 kg.

Important. The adhesive contains solvents that keep the acrylic components in a liquid state, so it is not recommended to apply it on surfaces such as foam, which can deteriorate from the solvent.

Tarkett PVC tiles, Lounge collection

PVC tiles are an excellent flooring solution. It looks like a laminate, but has three undeniable advantages:

  1. Not afraid of water;
  2. If the panel becomes unusable, then it can be easily replaced without removing the rest. In the case of laminate, you need to disassemble the entire floor to get to the desired panel;
  3. Ease of installation and trimming (you can cut with an ordinary clerical knife).

When choosing a tile, I was guided by the price and the manufacturer of the material. Arriving at the store, they advised me Tarkett PVC tiles, at a price of about 800 rubles per sq.m. she suited me perfectly.

In order for the tile to lay down “as it should”, you need to prepare the floor, namely to make it even and smooth. This can be achieved by pouring a self-leveling mixture for self-leveling floors. Such mixtures, as the name implies, spread on the floor on their own and level out, there is no need to install beacons. The minimum layer is 2 mm, which is exactly what we need: close small holes in the screed and make the floor surface smooth.

Before pouring the floor, it must be cleaned. We remove all unnecessary: the remnants of putty, plaster and sweep everything carefully, and even better vacuum it. Then you need to prime the floor 2 times - the first layer of the primer must dry before applying the next. A well-primed floor will provide good adhesion and good flow of the self-levelling compound.

The next step is to prepare the self-levelling mortar. Pour water into the container (the required amount of water can be found on the package) and slowly pour the dry mixture, while stirring so that lumps and bubbles do not form. The volume of the container should be such that the entire bag and water fit in it. I used 2 plastic buckets with a capacity of about 30 liters each. The mixture chose the brand Bergauf.

This work, and in general the entire process of pouring, is best done together: one kneads the solution, the second does the pouring so that there is no downtime. You need to stir at a low speed to prevent the appearance of air bubbles.

After preparing the solution, we take a bucket and begin to fill from the farthest corner. Pour the mixture onto the floor and with a wide spatula help it spread over the surface. After you have freed the bucket, your partner will have to prepare a second bucket of mortar. After pouring a few buckets, you need to drive out the remaining air from the mixture, for this we use a spiked roller.

Buy a roller with a needle length of 4-5 cm. Due to my inexperience, I bought a roller with 2 cm needles, it rolled poorly and clung to the solution. A quick call to a friend solved the problem, he brought me a normal spiked roller.

In general, I described the entire filling process, in short, then: pour the mixture, help it spread with a spatula, remove air bubbles with a spiked roller. It should look like the photo below.

All filling work must be done at one time. After drying, the floor becomes smooth and slightly corrugated. Dries in about 24 hours.

If tubercles have formed somewhere, then they can be sanded, for example, with a grater.

Laying PVC tiles should be started from the largest room, in my case it is a hall. It is necessary to make a markup, namely, mark the middle of the room and draw a straight line along which the installation will take place. I used a chopping cord.

Glue used for commercial Homakoll brand linoleum. We will also need a notched trowel with 1 mm teeth to apply the adhesive evenly.

First, we apply glue to the floor with an ordinary spatula on one side of the line, and level it with a notched one to obtain a uniform layer.

Then we begin laying the tiles along the line in a checkerboard pattern (in a run, with a shift relative to the previous row), strictly along the line. Not even the slightest deviation is allowed. It is necessary to press the panels well to the base for better adhesion, for this you need to iron the surface of each tile with a rag in your hands after laying.

It happens that some of the glue begins to squeeze out of the seams. You need to remove it immediately with a damp cloth, otherwise it will dry out later and it will be problematic to do.

You can cut tiles, as I said above, with an ordinary clerical knife. To do this, turn the panel over, measure the desired length, take a square and draw along the line with a knife 1-2 times, then break the panel in this place.

When laying tiles near the walls, they do not need to rest against the walls, it is better to leave 0.5-1 cm each. This distance will then be closed with a plinth.

If you have any questions about this type of work, then you can ask me on the website http://actualremont.ru/ - I will be happy to answer them.
