How to clean the kettle from scale: effective ways at home. Easy ways to descale a kettle How to descale a kettle

Over time, the spiral of the electric kettle and its entire inner surface are covered with a hard coating. It interferes with the full operation of the device and gives the water a not very pleasant aftertaste. Therefore, you should not wait until the deposits begin to fall off and eventually fall into a cup of tea. It is better to know in advance how to clean the appliance from scale. Moreover, regular prevention of the formation of limescale is always more effective than the fight against an existing problem.

Folk remedies to combat scale

Since scale dissolves easily in an acidic environment, citric or acetic acid is most often used to remove it. Sometimes baking soda, lemon, or even potato and apple peels are used.

The main ways to remove scale in an electric kettle:

  • Pour water inside and add half a glass of vinegar there. Boil the solution and let it cool naturally. It is advisable to leave it for two hours or even all night. Pour out the vinegar water and rinse the electrical appliance thoroughly under running water.
  • Instead of vinegar, you can use citric acid at the rate of 1 tablespoon per one and a half liters of water. Bring the solution to a boil and leave for 20-25 minutes. After complete cooling, wash the surfaces with a soft sponge for dishes.
  • Baking soda will also help clean up. To do this, pour 5 teaspoons of soda into a liter of water and boil the solution.
  • If the house does not have any of the above, you can rid the electrical appliance of scale with the help of a lemon. Just add a few peeled pieces to water and bring it to a boil.
  • Some housewives use washed potato or apple peels to remove scale. Only in this case, the kettle will have to be boiled several times, since this remedy is not as strong as acids.
  • Since vinegar is present in cucumber or tomato brine, you can use them to clean the scale.
  • Finally, the last, most modern method of removal is based on the use of sweet colorless soda. Buy a bottle of this water, shake it thoroughly to remove gas, and pour it into an electric kettle. In this case, it is enough to fill it halfway. Bring the water to a boil and let it cool. The acids contained in the soda will clean the electrical appliance from scale. Just do not use cola, fanta and other drinks with dyes, otherwise they will stain the inner walls, and you are unlikely to be able to wash them.

For the most stubborn hard deposits, it is better to use several methods at once. For example, first clean with citric acid, and then with vinegar. Or vinegar and baking soda, etc. Such combined products, if they don’t clean it completely, will make the plaque loose, which will make it easy to wash it off with a regular dish sponge.

Household chemicals to deal with scale

Specialty descaling products are sold in stores. Each one comes with detailed instructions. They will help clean the electric kettle much faster. However, after using them, it is necessary not only to rinse it well with water, but also bring it to a boil several times and drain the already clean water. Otherwise, acid residues can get into tea or coffee.

Cleaning rules

When using any anti-scale products, we recommend that you adhere to the following rules:

  • First of all, warn your family that you are cleaning an electrical appliance. For example, stick a note to it or move it to an inaccessible place. Better yet, do it when no one is home. Otherwise, someone will definitely pour himself coffee with acid while awake.
  • After using any product, rinse the kettle several times and boil plain water in it two or three times, each time pouring it into the sink to get rid of all harmful substances.
  • Do not use abrasive products: metal sponges, dry powders, etc. They may remove the plaque, but at the same time they will ruin the electrical appliance.
  • Make sure that there are not too many deposits on the walls. It is more difficult to remove a thick layer than a thin one, and even with such a careless attitude, equipment will fail prematurely.
  • If possible, use only filtered water. As a last resort, get in the habit of standing it up before use and decontaminating it with a piece of silicon. So you will not only extend the life of your pet, but also take care of your own health.

Never neglect a timely cleaning! Then he will definitely thank you with fragrant morning coffee or your favorite sweet tea for breakfast.

Water is fully involved in human life. Unfortunately, its quality is not always good, but This has a negative effect not only on technology, but also has a bad effect on health.

You can fix this with folk remedies and household chemicals. Even with stubborn dirt, simple activities do just fine.

Causes of scale formation

Scale is hard deposits of salts. When water is heated, salts break down into carbon dioxide and scale.

The composition of water is determined by the path it had to travel. We see a high content of potassium and magnesium on a heating device. The amount of impurities depends on the region of residence.

What is the harm of scale?

  • Disrupts heat transfer from hotter to colder particles. Because of this, the load on the heating device increases, because the heating time increases. So the kettle breaks down quickly and the electricity bill goes up.
  • The use of additional tools for cleaning the kettle, and this is a minus from the budget.
  • Buying a water filter.
  • The negative impact on the human body, in particular, the urinary system and kidneys suffer.
  • Skin itching.
  • Eruptions on the skin.

Prevention of scale formation

  • In preparation, use water purification products.
  • Boil purchased water if possible.
  • The kettle should always be empty and wiped dry.
  • Boiled water cannot be reused. It's better to drain the leftovers.
  • To prevent scale buildup, clean once a week.
  • At the first appearance of scale, remove it immediately.
  • Rinse from the inside with a sponge on a daily basis.

As you can see, there are enough ways to clean and prevent.

To extend the life of the kettle does not need to spend a lot of money. In order for the kettle to serve for a long time, it is enough to give it a little time.

Especially such an opportunity to use the tools that every woman has. It is worth paying attention that after each procedure it is required to thoroughly rinse the kettle so that harmful substances do not enter the body.

The electric kettle has long been an indispensable item in the kitchen. But over time, scale forms in it, which occurs regardless of the quality of equipment, frequency of use and other objective factors. Plaque disrupts the operation of the device and provokes the appearance of an unpleasant smell of water. To avoid such negative phenomena, regularly clean household appliances using chemical products or home methods. How and how to effectively descale an electric kettle at home?

To clean the electric kettle from scale, follow these simple recommendations:

  • Warn all family members that the kettle is being cleaned and that water cannot be drunk from it. If possible, carry out the procedure when no one is at home.
  • To clean the device, pour water into it, add the active substance and boil. Unplug the kettle from the mains and rinse well.
  • Do not use abrasive powders or metal brushes for cleaning. They may damage the kettle.
  • Do not allow a large accumulation of scale - for this, clean the electric kettle at least 1-2 times a month. For the purpose of prevention, use settled or filtered water.
  • To remove stubborn dirt, use several methods in combination.
  • When using household chemicals for cleaning, do not forget to thoroughly wash the device so that harmful substances do not enter the body.

Citric acid and juice

To clean the kettle, prepare a solution based on 500 ml of water and 1 tbsp. l. citric acid. Pour the resulting mixture into the device and boil. After turning off the kettle, leave it for 15-25 minutes to dissolve old dirt. After the allotted time, rinse the kettle with a soft sponge and clean water.

In a similar way, you can clean the device with a lemon. Add a few slices of fresh citrus to a kettle of water, boil it and wash it. This method will not only get rid of scale, but also give a refreshing lemon aroma.

Baking soda

Soda will help to effectively get rid of scale. Pour 1 liter of water into the electric kettle and add 3-4 tbsp. l. soda. Bring the solution to a boil, let it cool slightly, and then rinse the appliance with clean water.

To get rid of old stains, boil a kettle of baking soda, then pour out the solution and pour in the vinegar. The reaction of alkali and acid will speed up the process of destroying scale and help you quickly get rid of it.

Vinegar and essence

To clean the electric kettle at home, pour water (1.5-2 l) into it and add 100 ml of 6% vinegar or 1-2 tbsp. l. essences. Turn on the kettle, wait for it to boil and leave it for 3-4 hours (with a large amount of scale - overnight). During this time, the vinegar will dissolve the plaque. Then pour out the vinegar solution and rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean running water. The disadvantage of this method is the unpleasant smell of vinegar, which can be eliminated by prolonged ventilation.

Lemonade

It may seem strange to you, but scale can be overcome with the help of carbonated drinks. It is important that the lemonade is colorless, otherwise some elements of the device will be stained.

To remove scale, shake the soda and pour 1 liter into the kettle. Bring the lemonade to a boil and leave to cool completely. The scale will completely dissolve and be removed due to the phosphoric acid contained in the drink. If the contamination is not strong, simply pour the soda into the kettle and leave for several hours (without boiling), and then rinse with a soft sponge and clean water.

Oxalic acid

Oxalic acid can also cope with scale. Pour a small amount into the kettle and fill with water. Boil the solution and leave it for a few minutes, then remove the remaining scale with a soft sponge. You can also use fresh sorrel for cleaning, but due to the low concentration of acid in it, you will need to repeat the procedure.

Household chemicals

Household chemicals will help get rid of scale in an electric kettle. The range of products will allow you to choose the most suitable option that will effectively remove plaque. The most popular remedies are Antinakipin, Descaler, Major Domus.

Before use, carefully read the instructions and follow all the steps with strict adherence to the dosage and recommendations. After treating the kettle with household chemicals, rinse it well, and to remove chemical residues, boil clean water in it at least 3-4 times.

The modern variety of teapots is amazing. You can't keep up with innovations: manufacturers are experimenting with materials, technologies, shapes and colors. To make the kettle last for a long time, it is advised to use spring, filtered or bottled water. And if this is not possible, defend the water from the tap throughout the day.

Why does plaque appear

Over time, scale will appear in any kettle. But increased water hardness will greatly reduce these periods and cause many problems. Firstly, scale is dangerous for the heating element. A spiral or a metal disk covered with a coating quickly overheats, loses heat transfer and, as a result, burns out. Secondly, boiling will require additional energy costs. Well, it is clear that water only from clean dishes will give coffee or tea a good taste.

Hard water contains calcium and magnesium salts in excess. Hardness is considered normal from 3 to 6 meq/l. White and dark spots on faucets, a sink or toilet bowl, clogged holes in the shower tube, whitish spots on washed dishes, permanent lime deposits in the kettle are sure signs of high water hardness (from 6 to 9 mg-eq / l).

Many people believe that installing a filter (jug, flow or reverse osmosis) will completely eliminate the scale problem. In fact, it will reduce the formation of plaque, but not by much. The action of most filters is not aimed at softening water, but at its mechanical cleaning from heavy metals and bleach.

How to descale a kettle: special chemistry

How to wash an aluminum kettle and remove rust? Before you remove the scale in the kettle, you need to remember: it is impossible to mechanically remove the already formed plaque. If you start scrubbing or scratching it with your own hands, ruin the device. Therefore, in our time, many chemical agents have been created to combat scale. Basically, these are liquid or powdered preparations based on soda ash.

They all have an identical principle of operation: according to the indicated dosage, we fall asleep in a kettle, fill the device with water to the maximum mark and boil it. After that, rinse thoroughly, boil fresh water again and drain.

Do not use cleaning gels and powders with large abrasive granules. They will scratch the surface, and the scale will stick to the bottom and walls of the kettle even more firmly.

The main disadvantage of industrial products is that chemicals can enter the stomach. So it's not harmless. Yes, and not all formulations give the desired effect.

The old fashioned way

You can be sure: time-tested folk recipes guarantee a 100% positive result. Ordinary soda, vinegar and "lemon" are recognized leaders among the descalers in the kettle. To successfully get rid of hard deposits, you will need knowledge about dosages, cleaning steps and rules for use in different types of devices. You can also boil it to remove impurities.

For an ordinary enameled teapot

Such instances are less and less common in modern kitchen interiors. But, of course, they continue to be bought, because they are much cheaper than their electric counterpart. Caring for an enameled teapot is quite easy. The main thing is to do everything in a timely manner.

Vinegar

  1. Fill the kettle with a solution of two parts water and one part table vinegar. Bring to a boil and cool naturally.
  2. Then drain the water, rinse the dishes abundantly.
  3. If the sediment is not completely gone, repeat the procedure.

In order to boil the kettle from scale with vinegar and not be poisoned by caustic steam, you need to open the windows during operation and put on a protective gauze mask. And before using the kettle, boil clean water “idle” again to eliminate the specific vinegar aroma.

Lemon acid

  1. Fill the kettle with lemon water at the rate of 10 g of "lemon" per liter of water.
  2. Boil.
  3. Leave the hot solution for several hours.
  4. Pour, thoroughly wash off the lime grains.

Store-bought remedy can be replaced with lemon: cut into pieces and boil for ten minutes.

Soda

  1. Boil a soda solution diluted in the following proportion in a kettle: two tablespoons of baking soda per liter of water.
  2. Wait until it cools down and remove soft deposits with a sponge.
  3. If the descaling quality is not satisfactory, repeat twice.
  4. This procedure can also be preceded by acetic cleaning.

For electrical appliance

The electric kettle is very easy to use. Heats water quickly and almost silently, looks very aesthetically pleasing and modern. The impeccable appearance of such a teapot requires internal cleanliness. Regular care is especially necessary for heating elements. It is more convenient to clean a kettle with a disc heater than with a spiral one, reminiscent of a Soviet-era kettle. In addition, the first is more durable and heats the water faster. How to effectively descale an electric kettle? Which methods are suitable for devices made of different materials?

From glass

  1. Boil water with a couple of tablespoons of citric acid and the same amount of soda powder.
  2. Let stand up to 20 minutes.
  3. Wash off the natural acid-base composition.

Vinegar will help to successfully wash scale in an electric kettle made of glass. Everything is extremely simple: open the window, boil water, and only after turning off the appliance, pour two or three tablespoons of food vinegar into boiling water, cover with a kitchen towel until it cools completely. Check that the shiny metal surface of the heater does not darken. Rinse thoroughly with running water.

stainless steel

  1. Pour a full kettle of water (standard capacity - 1.7 liters).
  2. Add a couple tablespoons of baking soda and boil.
  3. After cooling, remove the white flakes with a soft washcloth.
  4. Rinse thoroughly.

A stainless steel teapot is less prone to lime build-up. Nevertheless, a few more tips will be useful on how to quickly get rid of scale in a kettle made of such material. So, in a container, you can boil the brine from pickled cucumbers or tomatoes. Cleaning with apple or grape vinegar is also recommended - a glass of the product is poured into a boiled liter of water and left for half an hour.

from ceramics

Beautiful painted ceramic teapots, although very durable, require careful and careful handling. There are no special recommendations for cleaning plaque, so choose one of the recipes above.

Remember the safety measures while working with boiling water and cleansing folk remedies. This is important because, according to reviews, ceramic teapots are quite heavy, keep heat for a very long time and have rather uncomfortable, very hot handles.

Made of plastic

Such an electrical appliance is the cheapest, lightest and most unpretentious. It will be as good as new if you clean it with any means at hand. You can also try and evaluate a peculiar way: boil water with apple peels in a saucepan, let it brew a little and pour it into an electric kettle. After a couple of hours, pour the “compote” into the sink and rinse the cleaned dishes with water.

Advanced cases, if the plaque does not go away

You do not know how to remove heavy scale in the kettle? Running cases will be “cured” by the following method, which consists of six simple steps.

  1. Add three tablespoons of soda to a kettle with boiling water.
  2. After half an hour, boil again and pour immediately.
  3. Get fresh water and now add a couple of tablespoons of vinegar.
  4. Boil the solution again and pour it out after half an hour.
  5. Remove the resulting loose mass with a soft sponge.
  6. Rinse well to remove the vinegar smell.

Does the method work with Coca-Cola

Salt deposits of calcium and magnesium dissolve under the influence of citric, acetic, orthophosphoric acids. The latter - H3PO4 - is part of the popular Coca-Cola drink. To descale the kettle with Coca-Cola, you just need to pour 0.5 liters of drink into the appliance (this is enough to completely cover the heater). In 15 minutes, soda will remove light plaque without boiling. You can fix the effect by boiling this sweet flavored liquid in a kettle and at the end just rinsing it well with water.

This unusual method is suitable for a glass teapot. And for plastic, stainless steel and ceramics, exclude drinks with dyes, they can pigment the walls of an electrical appliance. Try boiling regular sparkling water.

Practice shows that the best way to remove lime deposits is to descale the kettle with citric acid by boiling water with a couple of spoons of "lemon". It turns out cleaner and cheaper than using Coca-Cola, and also without a pungent smell, as in the case of using vinegar.

"Options" from scale

Interestingly, there are ways not only to remove scale in the kettle, but also how to prevent its occurrence. To do this, you just need to select a device with additional "options". Inside some models (although they are more expensive), cleaning cartridges are installed that filter and heat water at the same time. There are also teapots with gilding on the spiral, the function of which is to protect the part from hard deposits and corrosion. But the most "advanced" users recommend installing an electromagnetic water converter at home. So in one fell swoop, you can solve all problems with increased water hardness and protect not only the kettle, but also the washing machine along with the water tank from scale.

There are kettles in every home. Someone uses electric, someone - ordinary. Scale builds up over time in any kettle and needs to be removed. Descaling the kettle is not at all difficult with simple home remedies.

Scale is a layer of various salts, metal particles that are in the water. Depending on the quality of the water, scale builds up on the walls of the kettle faster or slower. Over time, it covers the inner surface of the teapot. Scale has a low thermal conductivity, and therefore it takes a longer time to heat and boil water in a dish covered with scale.

In an electric kettle, scale covers the heating coil, which can damage the kettle. In order to extend the life of the electric kettle, it is necessary to remove scale in a timely manner.

Prevention

Before talking about how to remove scale from the kettle, you should recall a few simple rules that you need to follow in order to minimize these procedures.

As a prevention of scale formation, it is necessary to rinse the kettle every day, cleaning it from a thin coating with a sponge.

For boiling, it is desirable to use water, previously.

After each boil, the water from the kettle must be drained. Do not leave it for a long time, especially at night.

To get rid of scale, you should not wait until the layer becomes thick - the less sediment has formed, the easier and faster it is to remove.

There are various special descaling products, but you can do it quickly and easily with the help of the most common substances that everyone always has at home, and if not at hand, they can be easily found at the nearest grocery store.

Descaling with citric acid

The kettle must be filled with a solution of citric acid and water at the rate of 10 g per 1 liter. It should be noted that in the usual store packaging, a sachet of citric acid contains 25 g of product, therefore, to simplify calculations, you can use 1 sachet per full kettle of water. Bring the resulting solution to a boil. Immediately, as soon as the water begins to boil, the kettle must be turned off, as when boiling, the water will foam a lot and, most likely, will begin to splash over the top. Leave the hot solution for a while in the kettle. After that, the liquid must be poured out, the remaining scale should be cleaned with a brush and the kettle thoroughly rinsed with water. If after the procedure the plaque is not completely removed, then it is advisable to repeat it again.

Descaling with acetic acid

Pour about two-thirds of water into the kettle, one-third - 9% vinegar. Boil the solution, then leave it in the kettle until completely cooled or just for a few hours. After that, the water can be drained, and the kettle rinsed from scale residues. If the scale remains, the procedure is repeated. Before further use of the kettle, be sure to first boil water in it to get rid of the smell of vinegar.

Descaling with baking soda

If the kettle is very neglected, with a thick layer of scale, before carrying out one of the above procedures, it is useful to boil water in it with the addition of 2 tbsp. spoons of soda per 1 liter of water. There is a more active reaction of acid and alkali and scale is better cleaned.
