How to make a drywall construction with your hands. Plasterboard constructions in the interior: their advantages, main types and features. Do-it-yourself ceiling plasterboard constructions

Drywall is a versatile finishing material. Due to the excellent physical and technical properties of drywall sheets, drywall products are often used in the modern design of apartments and private residential buildings.

What drywall products are most often used for a unique, stylish design of an apartment?

Decorative finish products can be very diverse

Common designs from GKL

Drywall in the interior of the hallway

With the help of structures made of this material, you can completely change the geometry of the room, as well as divide the room into several functional zones.

What drywall products are popular in modern design?

  • Niches of various shapes and sizes, which can serve as both a built-in piece of furniture and a spectacular addition to the design of any room;
  • Single arches or a suite of arched openings - these elements visually make the room more spacious, and also help to divide the room into a work area and a recreation area;

Functional zoning of the apartment

  • Partitions can be both solid and lattice, depending on the style of design;
  • Suspended ceilings of various shapes and configurations;
  • Decorative boxes designed to hide unsightly utilities. Such products can be made by hand.

Important. Having decided to design an arch or a complex architectural form, it is better to turn to professionals. Since it is problematic to make curved drywall boxes on your own. This requires special knowledge and experience.

Features of installation of architectural design elements from plasterboard

Classic interior design

On our website you can watch video materials with step-by-step instructions for installing a variety of architectural forms that you can do yourself. Let us consider in more detail how, with the help of such structures, you can perform an original design and completely transform an apartment or private household.

Niches are an original, stylish and functional architectural element of the interior.

Illumination plays an important role in the arrangement of a decorative niche.

A well-placed niche can visually make the space of a room much larger. An interesting and original niche lighting can turn this simple architectural element into a spectacular and stylish decor element (see also the article about a do-it-yourself drywall niche). In addition, the price of arranging a comfortable, beautiful, functional niche is low.

What functions can a niche perform?

  • In this architectural form, you can place a TV, audio or video equipment;
  • By mounting wooden shelves in a niche, you can organize a small library or a rack for collectibles;
  • The fresco illuminated around the perimeter, mounted on the wall, will not only be a stylish accessory in the decor of the apartment, but also visually make the room more spacious and brighter;

A niche can also serve as a decorative partition

  • Due to the fact that drywall can be decorated with a wide variety of finishing materials - glass, tiles, plaster or wallpaper, there are a lot of options for the functional use of such a design. It can accommodate a beautifully illuminated large aquarium, for example, as seen in the photo.

Important. But it is undesirable to get carried away with an abundance of such decorations even in large areas. The heap of structures completely levels the perception. Therefore, it is worth limiting yourself to one bright, unusual decorative element.

It is quite possible to build a niche with your own hands, decorating and transforming the room. To do this, you only need a preliminary drawing with all the necessary dimensions, drywall sheets, as well as supporting profiles for mounting the frame.

The arch is a spectacular architectural element often used in interior design.

Pointed arch

Arches are often used for effective and convenient zoning of a room. In addition, this architectural element is harmoniously combined with many styles of interior design. Do-it-yourself step-by-step instructions for installing an arch with your own hands, posted on our website, will help you do the work yourself (see also the article about a do-it-yourself drywall arch).

When redeveloping one-room apartments and connecting the kitchen to the room, the arches will be an excellent option.

Depending on the design style, you can build arches of various types:

  • Romanesque semicircular arches harmoniously complement the design of the apartment in a classic style;
  • Arched British archways they will make the room visually higher, and the same niche located on the wall will complement the strict classic decor of the apartment;

Classical arch with decorative stucco elements

  • Several arches separated by narrow columns, perfect for decorating a home in the style of the Roman Empire.

Important. When redeveloping an apartment and dismantling partitions between rooms, it is important to install bearing supports in the form of columns. Since the instruction for the redevelopment of buildings requires calculating the load on the floors.

Drywall partitions

The shape of the partitions can be the most unexpected

The most common and functional version of products. Since the time for installation and finishing of partitions is minimal, and the price of this decor option is low, it enjoys well-deserved popularity.

Partitions can be both solid and made in the form of a lattice. And the options for finishing such a partition are limited only by the imagination and style of the interior.

Decorative boxes for utilities

Boxes reliably hide unsightly communications in the apartment

Irreplaceable plasterboard products that are used in the design of any room. After all, it is so important to hide poorly located metering devices (meters) or utility pipes.

In this case, decorative drywall boxes will come to the rescue. They can be made in a variety of options and the most unusual geometric shapes.

After all, GKL is a universal material, in capable hands acquiring the most unusual and original forms. This can be seen in the photo.

Drywall box - see here.

Plasterboard ceilings

The shape of the ceilings can be extremely diverse.

This topic is covered in detail in other articles and videos on our website. Therefore, we briefly note that such ceilings help not only create a spectacular and unusual interior. But they also hide all the shortcomings of the ceiling.

A variety of designs and decor options for ceilings allows you to individually and interestingly decorate any room.

What you should pay attention to when installing structures from GKL

Such a complex but spectacular composition should be carefully calculated in all sizes.

Drywall products can radically transform a room or an entire apartment.

But when installing them with your own hands, you should pay attention to the following technological features of the installation.

  • When starting to manufacture the box, be sure to complete a preliminary drawing of the proposed design, with the application of all sizes and reference to the area of \u200b\u200bthe room. This will help to build a structure of the required dimensions and reduce material costs;

Loads should also be calculated during redevelopment

  • Consider the expected load on the structure and, if necessary, further strengthen the metal supporting frame of the box. These works can be done by hand;
  • When installing electrical wiring, carefully insulate the wires and foresee the location of the fixtures in order to correctly place the holes for their installation.
  • When constructing drywall products, it is important that they are in harmony with the overall design of the room in shape and decor.

Conclusion

Partitions of interesting geometry will decorate any apartment

Plasterboard products can help diversify the finish and hide the flaws in the architecture and layout. Their construction and installation will not take much time, and the price of consumables is quite affordable.

Therefore, plasterboard products are often used in the interior design of apartments and private residential buildings.

Drywall was originally created for leveling surfaces, but the craftsmen gave it a new life in the manufacture of cabinets, kitchen countertops and other structures.

Plasterboard furniture can harmoniously fill the space of any of the rooms, because the correct use of installation technologies allows you to give it different shapes and dimensions. The material can be easily adjusted to any size and mounted manually.

What does a room decorated with plasterboard sheets look like?

Drywall is a godsend for every designer. With its help, any fantasies are realized, and thanks to dyes with a rich palette of colors and modern decorative elements, they give the idea a uniqueness. Attractive price, quick and easy installation without unnecessary pollution, low weight and the possibility of reconstructing damaged elements.

Kitchen furniture

The kitchen is the main room in every home. Here they prepare various delicacies, receive guests, spend a significant time of their lives, and therefore every owner wants to equip it as comfortably as possible.

Furniture from drywall practical, durable and hardy. Tables, pencil cases, various niches and shelves, bar counters, cabinets, a kitchen set or even beautiful arched structures can be built with your own hands.

Assembly does not require special skills, the main thing is to adhere to the dimensions on the drawing, be able to work with a puncher, screwdriver and metal shears, initially take measurements correctly with a tape measure and ruler. Shelves (open or closed) are a simple and practical option. The basis is a metal frame on which the plasterboard is attached.

Sturdy table made of plasterboard and metal frame

It is not difficult to make a table for tea drinking with your own hands. The sequence of steps in the manufacture of the table:

  1. select material for a stable frame - wood, steel;
  2. self-tapping screws connect steel guides;
  3. finish the frame with plasterboard sheets, measured in advance in size and carefully cut;
  4. cover the seams and screws with putty, and then grind with sandpaper;
  5. the last stage is decorative finishing - painting and drawing a picture of your choice.

Making a bar counter with your own hands will not take much time:

  • The size of the finished structure must correspond to the dimensions of the kitchen. Having made calculations and measurements, a frame of metal strips is mounted. To make it stronger, fix a solid bar in the corners.
  • Having made the perimeter of the rack, transverse profiles are placed in it. After fixing to the surface of the walls and floor, using the level.
  • If the frame has successfully passed the strength test, GKL is attached to it. Self-tapping screws with appropriate caps are screwed in with a screwdriver (the distance between them is maintained at 15-20 cm) so that the sheets hold tightly.
  • Then the seams are puttied and sanded. When the design is ready, proceed to the decorative surface treatment.

DIY kitchen set

Such a set will definitely fit into the design of the kitchen. For a small area, this is a great option, as the owner, taking into account the needs of the family, is able to make it as practical as possible.

For assembly, you will need standard building materials: a screwdriver, a clerical knife, metal scissors, glue, tape measure, and more.

Before starting work, they draw up a project, where they indicate the correct dimensions of each element. From drywall, you can make all the components of the kitchen set: countertops, shelves, cabinets, bar counter.

Ready-made furniture is easy to fit into the interior, you just need to make decorative processing:

  • paint in your favorite colors and varnish;
  • stick washable wallpaper;
  • decorate with decoupage;
  • draw exquisite patterns with a brush or print using a stencil.

Installed cabinets and shelves (open or closed) are filled with kitchen utensils.

Making a kitchen countertop

A handmade countertop is sure to be the highlight of any decor.

Table top element

For its manufacture you will need:

  1. metal guides;
  2. GKL (18 mm);
  3. screwdriver and screws;
  4. ceramic tile;
  5. special mounting adhesive;
  6. spatulas and grout;
  7. level, tape measure, felt-tip pen.

Decide in advance on the dimensions, taking into account the physical characteristics of the residents and the dimensions of the room.

Do-it-yourself installation of the structure:

  • Make marks on opposite walls, where the corners and extreme points will be located. It is important to monitor the evenness of the parts.
  • Outline the mounting marks of the main metal profiles.
  • Self-tapping screws fix two guide panels to the wall (one lower, the other higher).
  • Attach the edges of the table top.
  • Between the guides at a distance of 40 cm, strong 10-centimeter profile supports are placed.
  • Along the perimeter, transverse ones are attached, in increments of 40 cm, for the strength of the entire structure.
  • When the frame is ready, proceed to the sheathing of the GKL.
  • Determine the places for sinks and stoves, cut out the corresponding holes.
  • The last step is cladding. With the help of glue, the tiles are fixed so that the countertop takes on a proper look and is easy to care for.

The process is quite simple - you can do it yourself and not such masterpieces. Do-it-yourself drywall kitchen is not at all difficult, and the result exceeds the wildest expectations.

Possessing minimal skills in construction and repair work, everyone can make built-in drywall cabinets. With your own hands, you can create an original design of the room, where surprisingly limitless design fantasies, combined with relative cheapness, will transform a familiar house beyond recognition.

Drywall allows you to create unique designs that complement the interior of the house with its originality and individuality.

Design features of plasterboard furniture

Plasterboard sheets are a building material consisting of 2 layers of building cardboard, in the middle of which there is a hardened gypsum dough with filler. Due to its special properties, this material allows you to build a structure of any shape.

Moreover, it will cost much less than expensive wood or even laminated chipboard.

Gypsum boards are a building material consisting of 2 layers of building cardboard, in the middle of which there is a hardened gypsum dough with filler.

Built-in plasterboard furniture has a different configuration. It can be made both in the form of interior shelves with lighting under glass, and in the form of a small sofa in the hallway. In addition, by building a wardrobe into a room, its surface can be painted, lined with ceramic tiles, glass panels, decorative plaster or liquid wallpaper can be applied.

Making furniture with your own hands, you need to draw up an algorithm for your actions.

A step-by-step plan for mounting a cabinet or shelf will have the following items:

  • project of the future structure;
  • frame;
  • drywall installation;
  • putty;
  • finishing.

During construction, it must be borne in mind that the built-in drywall cabinet is the final design and cannot be altered in the future. Therefore, it is better to immediately decide for what purposes a cabinet or shelves are being built and what will be stored in them. And if necessary, build the frame initially reinforced.

Necessary tools and drawing

Materials needed for mounting the cabinet with your own hands:

  • GKL sheets;
  • UD and CD metal profiles;
  • protective corner for plasterboard made of plastic or metal;
  • wires, lamps, sockets, switches (if necessary);
  • fasteners;
  • painting net;
  • putty;
  • furniture fittings (if necessary);
  • finishing material for the outer and inner surface of the cabinet.

The tool needed to mount the cabinet with your own hands:

A hand tool needed for do-it-yourself cabinet installation.

  • perforator (drill);
  • screwdriver;
  • metal scissors;
  • manual grinder;
  • Bulgarian;
  • building level and various measuring tools;
  • hand tool;
  • linoleum knife;
  • edge planer.

Modeling a built-in cabinet made of gypsum plasterboard is not much different from designing cabinet furniture with your own hands. Only in this case, the role of the roof and bottom is performed by the ceiling and floor, and the side racks are vertical internal partitions. First of all, you should decide on the general appearance of the cabinet and choose the place where it will be located.

Next, we measure the room, namely the place where it is planned to install it. Taking into account the dimensions obtained, we draw a diagram, while not forgetting about the correct distribution of loads on the surface of the GCR. So, large shelves, rods and various sliding mechanisms are additionally reinforced with transverse metal profiles. And such moments should be reflected in the drawing. This will facilitate not only the installation of the cabinet, but also help not to acquire extra building material. Using a tape measure and a level, the drawing is marked on the floor, ceiling and walls.

Installing the frame under the cabinet

When assembling the frame for the cabinet, it is necessary to assemble a rigid structure.

Now you can proceed to the installation of the frame with your own hands. You need to be prepared for some deviations from the given parameters, since not all angles in the apartment are 90 ° and there may be a slight difference in the height of the vertical planes of the partitions. There is nothing terrible in this. The most important thing is to maintain the most accurate dimensions of doorways. Otherwise, even not very significant distortions can adversely affect the installation of doors.

Before attaching the profile to the wall, you will need to prepare everything you need to install fixtures, sockets and switches. In this case, you will need to pierce the walls, make nests for them, lay wires and secure. You should not perform this operation after the frame of the structure is installed, as inconvenience may occur, which will significantly delay the assembly of the case with your own hands.

First, a guide profile is mounted according to the marked marking, which is recommended only to be baited. Using the level, you should determine the correctness of its position and only then fix it with dowels to the wall. Then we install the suspensions at a distance of about 500 mm from each other. We fix a vertical rack profile to them, which is simultaneously inserted into the profile guides and fixed. Additional rigidity to the frame is given by horizontal elements connected by means of crab fasteners with rack profiles. Next, profiles are mounted under the shelves and various drawers. In places where the profile is attached to the floor, a special shock-absorbing tape is laid. This will prevent transmission of floor vibrations to the built-in wardrobe.

Installation of drywall to the frame

To avoid the "drum effect", the internal cavity of the structure can be filled with mineral wool or other insulating material.

Having completed the installation of the frame with your own hands and once again checking the level of the location of the profiles, you can begin to cover it with GKL. In order to use the material more rationally and have less waste, drywall is selected taking into account the dimensions of the cabinet, and its thickness, depending on the expected loads on the walls and shelves.

To make an accurate cutting of the sheet will help the T-square. It allows you to draw a straight line along which an incision is made with a knife at the beginning and end. Next, the sheet is placed on the table so that the intended line protrudes slightly beyond its edge. On the protruding surface of the drywall with the palm of your hand, lightly strike, after which it should break. And the remaining whole paper layer must be cut with a clerical knife. Also, for cutting sheets, a carpenter's knife, electric jigsaw or hacksaw is used. To get smooth edges, an edge planer is used.

Sheets are attached to the frame with a drill with self-tapping screws 3x19 mm long and with a step of 250 mm, going deep into the gypsum board by no more than 1 mm. The joints of the sheets are best placed vertically. This will make them almost invisible after plastering. Corners deserve special attention, since they are considered the most vulnerable in drywall construction. Reinforced paper, metal corners or plaster mesh will help protect these parts.

To avoid the "drum effect" that can occur after mechanical impact, the internal cavity of the structure can be filled with mineral wool or other insulating material. At this stage, it is necessary to provide fastening for shelves, bars and doors.

Drywall seam processing

At the initial stage, when sealing the seams with a narrow spatula, the first layer of putty is applied inside the joint.

Before sealing the seams, the structure must be coated with a primer and allowed to dry well. Next, with a narrow spatula, the first layer of putty is applied inside the joint. The protruding excess of the applied composition is evenly smeared over the surface. Then a reinforcing tape is applied to the seam and even pressed a little. During the day, do not touch the surface and let it dry.

The next step will be its cleaning from streaks and small grains of putty. After that, a second layer is applied to the treated seam and also left to harden. At the same time, the area of the working zone is larger than that of the previous layer. This continues until the bump from the reinforcing tape disappears, and the drywall surface becomes completely flat. The final stage of finishing is grinding with ordinary sandpaper. Next, we install shelves, install doors, paint or otherwise decorate the surface of the cabinet.

As you can see, plasterboard furniture can be installed quickly and quite simply. Ingenuity, drawings, the usual set of tools and, of course, inspiration will help to change the familiar interior in an amazing way. Good luck with your ideas!

Plasterboard sheets (GKL) are a popular building material that allows home craftsmen to independently create original interiors in their homes. It is used for decorating ceilings, building walls, building niches, various arches and entire design ensembles.

GKL - universal and easy-to-install products

A variety of drywall constructions are characterized by a mass of advantages, which determine their demand. Let's single out the main advantages of gypsum plasterboards and structures from them:

  1. 1. Light weight of products, as well as components for building a frame for their installation.
  2. 2. Guaranteed to create flawlessly smooth and even surfaces.
  3. 3. Ease of installation structures. Any self-taught master will figure out how to work with drywall without any problems. To do this, he does not need to have special knowledge and professional skills. All GKL structures (even with complex and unusual geometry) are assembled in the shortest possible time.
  4. 4. Environmental friendliness of plasterboard sheets, a fairly high indicator of their strength.

Do-it-yourself frames for mounting structures of interest to us are equipped using conventional profiles - UW / CW and UD / CD guide rails. The former are usually used to assemble shelves and various wall structures, the latter are used to create cantilever elements and decorate ceilings.

The principle of installation of structures from GKL is simple. First, we sketch the planned structure on paper. We indicate on it all the necessary dimensions. We transfer our scheme to a wall or other surface. Then we build a frame, cut drywall sheets according to the required parameters and attach them to the finished skeleton.

At the final stage, we finish the finished structure. Let's see how you can change the interior of your home with the help of GKL.

A box for a kitchen hood - we will make an elementary design

As mentioned, drywall sheets make it possible to create truly complex structures without the help of professional builders. But it makes sense for beginner craftsmen to try their hand at simple designs. Let's make a drywall box for the kitchen exhaust duct. If we get such a simple structure, we can boldly take on more serious problems.

The procedure will be as follows:

  1. 1. We determine the dimensions of the box (with its width and height).
  2. 2. We make the simplest sketch of the future design.
  3. 3. On the wall we measure the height of the box, on the ceiling - its width.
  4. 4. We transfer the intended points to the opposite wall surface. It is most convenient to perform this operation using a laser level, but it is quite possible to get by with ordinary building ones.
  5. 5. We connect the marks we made with straight lines.

Everything is ready for mounting the frame under the box. We set the starting profile along the finished lines. We cut pieces of guide rails to make supports for all elements of the structure being created. We insert them into the starting profile.

After that, we sheathe the frame with drywall using self-tapping screws. The described work is completed in a couple of hours. As a result of such simple actions, we get a neat box under the hood.

Drywall niches - beautiful and functional

Niches built from KGL are an original detail of the interiors of modern living quarters. In addition, they perform additional - purely practical - functions. You can install light household appliances, books and other compact products on them. Niches are built according to the following algorithm:

  1. 1. We make a drawing of the future design.
  2. 2. We calculate the required number of sheets, profiles, fasteners, putty. We buy all these materials. We prepare a screwdriver, a grinder with a disc (cut-off), a puncher.
  3. 3. With the help of a level, a ruler and a pencil, we transfer the dimensions of the niche from the drawing to the wall.
  4. 4. Cut the guides. We create our structure from them, connecting individual profiles with self-tapping screws (you can also use rivets, brackets).
  5. 5. We attach the frame made with dowels to the wall, making holes in it with a perforator.
  6. 6. We sheathe the structure with drywall sheets.

We putty the finished niche, removing all the bumps on its surface. Then we decorate our structure (we paint, veneer, decorate with decorative plaster, and so on).

It is even easier to make a niche for curtains. To design such a structure, you need to decide only on its width.

Important point! A niche for curtains is designed strictly before the ceiling is assembled.

Some difficulties may arise with the choice of the width of the structure in question. It is undesirable to take it too large, since in this case the cornice can be conspicuous (namely, we want to disguise it by making a niche). But you can not choose too small a width. After all, then the curtains will get very dirty and wear out, clinging to the fasteners. The recommended width of the niche is 15–20 cm. We install the structure for curtains according to the principle already known to us (sketch, marking, cutting profiles, their installation and fastening).

We erect a plasterboard partition - redevelopment of the dwelling

If you have planned a redevelopment of your house, apartment, any large room in them, the easiest way to do this is by installing a partition from the GKL. Installation of such a structure is carried out according to the following scheme. First, we mark the ceiling, walls, floor. The operation is performed using a plumb line. Marking is done to beat off perfectly correct vertical lines that serve as a guide for mounting on the walls of the starting profile.

It is easy to work with a plumb line. We apply one of its ends to the wall (to its upper point), where we plan to build a partition. The plumb line will begin to make pendulum movements. When they stop completely, its second end will show us the bottom markup point. We connect the received marks with a masking cord. We first apply a coloring composition (dust) to it. We stretch the cord and make it a slap on the wall surface. We get the required vertical line. We perform similar actions on the second wall. We also beat off the lines on the floor and ceiling.

The described operations are performed when creating straight partitions. In cases where we want to give the structure being constructed a curved shape, we act a little differently. Here you need to do the following. First, draw a curve on the ceiling surface. And then we transfer it to the floor. If it is planned to make a door in the partition, mark the boundaries of its opening on the floor and ceiling. We use the same plumb line for these purposes.

The next step is to install the starting guides. In areas where the profiles will adjoin the floor, wall and ceiling, we paste over them with a damper tape. Thus, we will increase the soundproofing characteristics of the structure. We make holes for screws in the guides (step - 0.25–0.3 m). We drive dowels into the marked points on the walls and ceiling. Insert screws into them. We securely fix the entire starting frame.

After that, install the rack guides. We mount them vertically every 0.4–0.6 m in the starting profiles of the ceiling and floor. We check the accuracy of installation with a plumb bob. We perform the connection of rack and starting products with self-tapping screws. Important! We additionally isolate the sections of the profile connection with a damper tape.

We can proceed to sheathing the partition with plasterboard sheets. First, we install them vertically on one side of the structure. The length of the GKL should be similar to the height of the room. It is undesirable to use pieces of material for sheathing. We fix the sheets with self-tapping screws, which have special hats (hidden). We embed the latter in the GKL by about 1.5 mm. By the same principle, we sheathe the second side of the partition. Then we putty the surface of the structure made. We are waiting for the putty composition to dry. We carry out finishing of a partition under the interior existing indoors.

Drywall is a modern universal building material for constructing various kinds of arches, transitions, niches, design ensembles, building walls, and much more. As a building material, it has excellent strength indicators, is resistant to wet environments, is environmentally friendly and non-flammable. All these qualities make it widely used in the construction of any type.

Advantages of drywall constructions

Drywall constructions have the following advantages:

  • They are light in weight. The light weight of both the sheet itself and the frame makes it possible to build partitions between rooms in places where there are no load-bearing supports;
  • Ease of mounting. To create any drywall construction, professional skills are not required. It is enough to have an understanding of geometry and be able to solve simple examples. This will be enough even to create complex arches with niches and transitions;
  • The design of drywall allows you to hide elements of plumbing, electrical wiring, unnecessary niches. In this case, perfectly even and smooth surfaces are always obtained.

How to make a drywall construction with your own hands?

Before starting the construction of the planned interior element, it is necessary to thoroughly think over the project. You should take into account all the little things that can interfere, and which will complement the future interior.

Drywall constructions on the wall are especially popular. Because using this material, you can design a fireplace, beautiful arches with niches, make intricate transitions, steps and columns for subsequent decoration with ornamental plants.

Creating a niche in the wall

You can perform a wide variety of drywall constructions on the wall, for this you just need imagination and desire. Moreover, many ready-made solutions can be found on the Internet with detailed descriptions and photos. Having such a finishing material as drywall, designs can be very different in form and complexity of construction. Find out more

Installation of plasterboard structures: 4 basic scenarios

The topic of this article is the installation of drywall structures. In it, I want to analyze several basic scenarios that underlie the work with the GCR. We have to get acquainted with the list of auxiliary materials and the technology of the main work - the assembly of frames and the actual installation of drywall sheets.

Can you see everyone

Here is a list of these scenarios:

  1. False ceiling assembly;

Alignment of the wall on the frame is completely identical to the installation of a suspended stream. In both cases, the types of frame profiles, their location, pitch and assembly rules are the same to the smallest detail.

Single level false ceiling. Material - drywall.

  1. Installation of a light partition;

Installation of a drywall box in a toilet or a built-in wardrobe with drywall walls is carried out using the same frame assembly scheme as in the case of a partition.

  1. Finishing a door or window opening with slopes;

GKL slopes are attached to the main wall with gypsum glue. The same fastening method can be used to level walls without framing. It is applicable if the maximum difference between wall sections does not exceed 5 centimeters.

  1. Making an arch in the opening or.

In the photo - a plasterboard arch in the interior partition on the first floor of my house.

general information

Let's start with the basics.

As a frame for gypsum boards, galvanized profiles are usually used, produced specifically for this purpose. The small thickness of their walls (0.4 - 0.7 mm) is compensated by the presence of stiffeners and provides a small material consumption; accordingly, the price of the profile will not be ruinous for the most budgetary repairs.

What is wrong with a bar frame? Here are some counterarguments against using wood:

  • It is hygroscopic (that is, it absorbs water with fluctuations in atmospheric humidity). Not only that: an increase in humidity is accompanied by deformation of the frame elements, which often leads to cracks in the plasterboard sheathing;
  • Wood is subject to decay. First of all, this applies to damp rooms - baths and toilets;
  • Woodworms also contribute to the destruction of wooden frames.

All of these problems are solved by impregnating the bar with an antiseptic and any hydrophobic composition (for example, drying oil). However, the cost of impregnation will bring the cost of a wooden frame very close to the cost of a crate from a profile. In addition, the impregnation will make you wait several days for it to dry, and the profile can be used for its intended purpose immediately after purchase.

To connect the frame elements to each other, self-tapping screws for metal 9 mm long (phosphated or galvanized) are used. The profiles are attached to the capital structures with dowel-screws 4x40 - 8x80 mm in size or (in the case of a wooden house) wood screws with a length of 45 mm or more.

For sheathing the frame with drywall, self-tapping screws on the GKL are used. Their length depends on the number of layers of drywall:

Two-layer sheathing is made with strict requirements for strength. In particular, partitions and walls are sheathed in two layers along the frame in rooms with high traffic - hallways, kitchens, etc.

When installing GKL in two layers, sheets of the first and second layers are attached with offset vertical and horizontal seams. It is necessary to reinforce and putty only the second layer of drywall.

Self-tapping screws for drywall differ from fasteners for wood with a smaller thread pitch, which allows you to more accurately position the cap relative to the surface of the sheet. The cap, when screwed in, sinks about a millimeter below the surface and is further hidden under the putty.

The step between the drywall attachment points is 15 - 20 cm.

I usually use a span as a measure of length - the distance between the tips of the most extended thumb and forefinger. A span is translated into SI as 17.78 cm.

A span is a measure of length that is always with you.

The edges of adjacent sheets, if possible, are attached to a common frame element for them. Practical consequence: the step between the elements of the frame is made so that the width or length of the sheet is a multiple of it.

For walls, wall plasterboard with a thickness of 12.5 mm is used. The standard sheet width is 1200 mm. The length of the material that can be found in the general sale is 2500 or 3000 mm; the choice of one or another value is usually determined by the height of the ceiling in the room.

For the installation of suspended ceilings that do not experience loads during operation, it is customary to use thinner drywall - 9 mm. For arches, even thinner material is used - 6.5 mm thick.

It is most convenient to cut GKL along curved lines and cut holes in it with an electric jigsaw with a wood file. In straight lines, the GCR is cut with a knife by a quarter of the thickness and broken off at the edge of the table or any other elevation, after which it remains only to cut the kraft paper from the back of the sheet.

The seams between adjacent sheets are reinforced and puttied. Serpyanka is usually used for reinforcement - a rolled fiberglass mesh with an adhesive layer applied to one side. It is glued to a pre-embroidered seam (with chamfers removed by a third of the thickness of the sheet), which is filled with putty directly through the sickle cells.

The seams between the factory edges of the sheets do not need to be jointed: the edges of the most common type - PLUK - are made rounded.

For puttying seams and fasteners, gypsum putty is traditionally used. It differs from building gypsum in a longer setting period - 30 - 45 minutes versus 3 - 5.

GKL has to be puttied at least twice: putty shrinks slightly when dry.

After the putty has dried, the surface of the structure is polished with a bright side, emphasizing irregularities, dust-free and primed for painting with acrylic primer for gypsum boards and mineral substrates. The primer sticks the remaining dust and improves the adhesion of the surface to paint or wallpaper.

The last step before painting is the primer.

Debriefing

Scenario 1: ceiling

materials

In addition to the ceiling drywall, we need:

  • Ceiling profile CD size 27x60 mm;

The length of the profiles (3 or 4 meters) is selected depending on the dimensions of the room.

  • Guide ceiling profile UD (27x28 mm);

  • Direct suspensions;

  • With insufficient length of ceiling profiles - direct connectors for them ("crabs").

Technology

  1. Along the perimeter of the room on the walls, the line of the future ceiling is marked according to the level. Usually it is separated from the floor level by the width of the guide profile;

The distance between the suspended ceiling and the ceiling can be increased if it is planned to be used to accommodate built-in lights or to lay ventilation ducts in this space.

  1. A guide ceiling profile is attached to the walls along the marking;
  2. Mounting lines for the CD ceiling profile are marked on the ceiling. Step between profiles - 60 cm;
  3. Hangers are attached to the ceiling along the marking lines;

  1. The ceiling profiles are inserted into the guide profiles. If necessary, they are spliced along the length with crabs;
  2. Each ceiling profile is attracted to the ceiling by curved suspension ears;
  3. Several threads are pulled across the profiles at the ceiling level. They will serve as a guide for fastening CD profiles in one plane;
  4. Each element of the frame is alternately removed from the suspension and lowered to the level of the thread stretched under it. Then the ears of the suspension are attracted to the sidewalls of the profile with self-tapping screws and bent up;

  1. The ceiling is hemmed with drywall, followed by reinforcement and puttying of seams and self-tapping screws.

Between puttying and painting should be at least two weeks. Otherwise, the seams will stand out with a shade, regardless of the number of layers of paint.

Scenario 2: partition

materials

To assemble a drywall partition with your own hands, you will need:

  • Rack profile CW. The length of the profile is determined by the height of the ceiling, and the thickness (50, 75 or 100 mm) is determined by the requirements for the rigidity of the partition and for sound insulation;

  • Guide profile UW in appropriate width;

  • If necessary, soundproofing - mineral wool of the appropriate thickness. I advise using glued boards 600x1000 mm in size, which fit without a gap between the frame posts at their standard step of 60 cm.

Technology

  1. A partition line is marked on the floor, ceiling and walls. I usually mark on the floor, then use a plumb line to transfer it to the ceiling and close the perimeter with markings on the walls;
  2. A guide profile is attached along the line;
  3. Racks cut to size are installed in it;

The standard step between the racks is 60 centimeters.

The distance between the floor and the ceiling in different corners of the same room can vary by several centimeters. Each post is measured and cut in place.

  1. Racks are screwed to the guides with metal screws;

  1. The frame is sheathed with sheets of drywall.

As usual, there are a number of subtleties:

  • If the partition will be pasted over with wallpaper, the seams can not be reinforced: the wallpaper will not allow cracks to come to the surface;
  • If the height of the partition exceeds the length of the sheet, a horizontal jumper between the uprights should be fixed on the seam between the main and additional sheets;

  • To increase the rigidity of the partition with its minimum thickness, you can fold the rack profiles in pairs, nesting one inside the other;
  • A doorway or skylight is edged with two posts and a horizontal lintel between them. The door or window frame is fastened with self-tapping screws screwed in from the side of the profiles.

To ensure the tightness of the profile adjoining the box, first apply strips of mounting foam or sealant to its outer edges.

Scenario 3: slopes

materials

In addition to the actual drywall, we need:

  • Penetrating primer for mineral substrates;
  • Gypsum glue (for example, Perlfix from the German company Knauf or the domestic Volma Montazh.

Gypsum glue can be replaced with any gypsum putty or plaster. Both the cost and the adhesive qualities of the mixtures differ very slightly.

Technology

Installation of slopes from drywall is carried out in the following order:

  • The edges of the opening are cleaned of old, fragile or low-adhesion coatings (crumbling plaster, old oil paint, etc.);
  • The opening is primed with penetrating soil twice without intermediate drying;
  • After the primer dries, the slopes are cut to size with a small (3 - 5 mm) margin in width;

  • Gypsum glue cakes are applied to each slope in increments of 10-15 cm, after which it is pressed against the wall and leveled with light strokes of the palm;

The upper slope needs additional fixation - it can fall or bend under its own weight. You can temporarily fix it with a few dowel-screws or supports from any improvised materials.

  • After the gypsum glue has dried, the part of the slope protruding beyond the opening is removed with an ordinary carpentry planer;
  • The seams are reinforced and puttied.

There are subtleties here too.

In cold regions, window slopes are best insulated. For this purpose, mineral wool is laid under the plasterboard from the side of the window frame. The edge of the slope in this case is attached to a bar impregnated with drying oil, previously fixed to the wall with dowel screws.

Plan "B": mounting foam is used instead of mineral wool.

Installation of a drywall doorway requires protection of the corners: they are easy to damage. Usually, for this purpose, the corners are reinforced with a plastic or galvanized corner profile. I solve the problem of protecting corners differently - I frame the opening with a decorative plastic corner, planted on silicone sealant.

With a large area of \u200b\u200bGKL (in particular, when leveling walls with it), it is better to apply gypsum glue not to the sheet, but to the wall. A sheet with several kilograms of glue on it will be too heavy and clumsy.

On an uneven base for sticking drywall in one plane, it is worth using beacons. They can be made by first sticking GKL trimmings on the wall or simply screwing a few dowel-screws into it to the desired depth.

Scenario 4: arch

materials

To build the frame of the simplest arch, you need a flexible arched profile, but you can get by with the usual rack or rails. Flexibility will be given to it by incisions in the side walls every 5 to 7 centimeters. The arch frame is attached to the opening by means of a guide profile.

Technology

Here are the instructions for assembling a drywall arch:

  1. The guide profile is attached to the inside of the opening at the top and sides of the future arch. With a large wall thickness, the frame will have to be made double, on both sides of the wall;

The side walls of the frame profile should be separated from the plane of the wall deep into the opening by the thickness of the GKL sheet - 12.5 mm.

  1. The arched profile is bent in the form of a sector of a circle and attached to the guides;
  2. Additional jumpers are attached between the guides and the arched profile, giving the structure rigidity;

  1. By the size of the arch, the sidewalls are cut out of the wall plasterboard;
  2. They are hemmed to the frame flush with the wall surface;
  3. From the arched drywall, the arch of the arch is bent and hemmed;

If you do not have a 6.5 mm thick plasterboard at your disposal, use a thicker sheet, notched from the back every 5 - 8 cm. When attached to the profile, it breaks along the notches. The smooth lines of the arch are given by puttying the arch.

Currently, drywall is considered a popular building material for interior design. Drywall structures successfully cover all the irregularities of the ceilings or walls of the room, are used for the manufacture of curved structures, such as arches, niches. This truly unique material is able to turn any nondescript apartment into a chic one.

Do-it-yourself plasterboard constructions are made very easily and it is simply not necessary to have special knowledge for this. Do-it-yourself drywall constructions can save a lot, because you don’t need an installation specialist, but you can do everything yourself.

GKL ceiling design has certain advantages:

Do-it-yourself plasterboard ceiling construction also has disadvantages:

  1. Due to the high level of the profile, the room is slightly reduced in height.
  2. Requires special tools for installation.
  3. The possibility of cracks in the joints of the sheets.
  4. Inaccessibility to electrical wires located between the ceilings.
  5. The bay above the neighbors spoils the appearance of the ceiling, because of this, repeated repairs may be required.
  6. Installation of the structure cannot be done alone due to the large weight of drywall sheets, an assistant is required.

Gypsum plasterboard ceiling experts advise mounting in the hallway, corridor, bedroom, hall. To perform the installation, high-quality GKL is required, otherwise the structure may sag.

For the installation of a single-level ceiling, the following materials are required:

  • profiles of SD and UD;
  • suspensions;
  • dowel-nails;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • drywall;
  • putty;
  • PVA glue, paper tape;
  • primer.

Required tools:

  • perforator and drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • spatulas;
  • level;
  • paint cord;
  • metal scissors or grinder;
  • jigsaw;
  • grater.

First, build a frame. To do this, a horizontal line is made from the ceiling around the perimeter of the room. Then the UD profile is fixed in increments of 60 centimeters, making an orientation to the horizontal. Where there will be a crate, threads are pulled along in increments of 40 centimeters, along which the attachment points for the suspensions are marked. Then they are mounted to the ceiling. A crate is inserted into the profiles. Then the threads are pulled already perpendicular to the crate. Fasten it to the profile with small self-tapping screws. The frame is ready.

Hemming drywall. Since the pitch of the crate is 40 centimeters, the plasterboard sheet 120 centimeters wide with longitudinal seams falls on the profile. The profile is attached to the transverse seams as follows: it is held and fixed to the edge of the first sheet. Then a second sheet is hung from this bar. Two sheets with adjacent edges are hemmed to one profile.

The installation of the ceiling is completed with its decoration. The seams and places of fastening of self-tapping screws are closed. A grater removes all roughness. The bandage tape is glued to all seams, and glue residues are removed. Then the seams are puttied again, sanded and primed.

At the end of the design, they paint or paste over with wallpaper.

The design of the drywall arch is quite simple. To begin with, determine what height and shape the arch will be. Having decided, they begin to manufacture a frame from a metal profile. It will be necessary to purchase metal shears and a U-shaped profile. To calculate the length, add the height of the arc of the arch and the width of the doorway and multiply by two.

To create a certain bend of the arch, the profile is cut along the entire length with special scissors. Throughout the opening, the base is fastened with self-tapping screws. A shaped drywall is then attached to the outside to create the bottom of the arch. To bend it, it is cut and broken along these cuts, while the plaster part remains intact. The bottom blank is screwed to the frame. Finally, all irregularities are leveled with putty.

Plasterboard shelves and partitions

In order to make a drywall shelf with your own hands, you need a UD profile. In certain places it is attached with dowels with self-tapping screws. Guides are inserted into it from both sides and screwed with self-tapping screws from the side of the wall. Then all sides of the shelf are sheathed with drywall, then it is puttied. Then the shelf is decorated with decorative elements.

It is not difficult to make partitions from drywall with your own hands. To determine the thickness of the partition, it is necessary to choose the right profile and drywall sheets. The thickness of the partition should match the thickness of the wall.

Then, with a laser level, it is necessary to make markings from both edges from the central wall. Then the guides are cut to the required length and attached to the floor, wall and ceiling using dowels and screws. After that, a profile is inserted into the guide, the partition is assembled and fixed, and the profile must be rack-mounted. Horizontal and intermediate jumpers are mounted, then drywall sheets are mounted on one side. They are attached vertically. Conduct communications, if any, and sew up the other side. After removing the wires, screw the last sheet. It is necessary that the mortar penetrate the butt when sealing the joints, because of this, the quality of the putty improves. Then the seams are closed and the corners are glued.

Aquariums, mirrors and other decorative elements decorating the interior can be installed in partitions. Partitions can be installed indoors as a stylistic solution, or they can simply partition off a room.
