What size is a standard interior door? Standard and not so dimensions of doorways of interior doors Standard dimensions of room doors

Interroom doors separate the space of 2 adjacent residential premises: a bedroom and a living room, a children's room and a common room, a kitchen and a corridor. Depending on the requirements set for the opening, they may differ in material, geometric dimensions, transparency, opening method and external design.

The material of the canvas design determines its strength, durability, possible design and external impression. The ease of passage depends on the geometric dimensions. Consider what parameters of interior openings will be most convenient and what width and height of the canvas is recommended by the standard.

Standard Requirements

The dimensions of the passages between the rooms are smaller than the entrance to the house or apartment. In accordance with the requirements of the standard, the front door should not be less than 80 cm, while it is more convenient to use the entrance with a leaf of at least 85 cm.

For passages inside the premises, there are no requirements to ensure the exit of the whole family (in an emergency). Therefore, their width can be smaller and be 60, 70, 80 or 90 cm. At the same time, a width of 60 cm is not always convenient: it is difficult to carry furniture, a musical instrument, a washing machine or a kitchen refrigerator through such a passage.

And the passage itself through a narrowed opening is not always comfortable. What size canvas will provide free passage and furniture? The recommended comfortable width is at least 80 cm. Therefore, interior doors with a width of less than 80 cm should not be installed.

The narrowed entrance to the bathroom involves limiting the ingress of moisture from the utility room into the living rooms. However, it is necessary to take into account the standard dimensions of washing machines (minimum 40x55 cm, maximum 60x65 cm). A small width often does not allow you to bring the purchased device inside the bathroom. Therefore, the entrance to the bathroom in modern design is taken from 80 cm.

The passage to the kitchen in some apartment buildings does not always correspond to modern kitchen furniture, the size of the refrigerator and dishwasher. Therefore, sometimes kitchen openings have to be expanded in order to install a canvas with dimensions of 80-85 cm.

Figure 1. The device of the interior door.

The standard thickness of interior doors is 75 mm. Passages to most rooms in high-rise buildings are arranged under this thickness. In individual construction there are deviations. For example, when erecting a thin plasterboard wall, the wall thickness may be less than the indicated 75 mm. In this case, it is necessary to increase the thickness of the opening at the installation site of the door frame.

Other differences between the box and the wall are possible. For example, the thickness of the wall is greater than the thickness of the finished box. Then the so-called extensions are installed - additional boards that increase the thickness of the boat for the entire opening (Fig. 1).

What are interior doors?

The main requirement for an interior door is to be comfortable and maintain the design of the room. The convenience of the design is determined by 2 factors: the size of the entrance and the severity of the canvas. The swing-out canvas indoors can be made of various materials:

 • wood;
 • plastic or PVC;
 • recycled wood: MDF, chipboard, fiberboard;
 • glass.

As a rule, external doors must provide reliable protection against burglary, so they are made of heavy material (wood, metal). Interior doors do not require such expensive investments, they can be light, transparent, thin. In this case, it is possible to expand the geometric size up to 1 m, then the material of execution should be lightweight (for example, MDF frame doors).

Lightweight material provides ease of opening the web and does not require the installation of additional devices to facilitate its plowing (as is often done for heavy street structures).

Wooden interior doors made of solid material are the most difficult option for decorating the passage between rooms. Their advantages: attractive design, pleasant sensations from natural wood, the impression of an expensive interior. This is the most costly way. The recommended width of solid wood doors that allow free swinging without additional devices is 80 cm.

Most of the paintings are made from recycled wood. In everyday life, they are also called wooden. Such doors have a frame made of wooden blocks and sheathing made of sheets of recycled wood (MDF, chipboard). Outside, they are pasted over with a film or paper that imitates any desired surface: oak, pine, marble. The weight of such a canvas is much less than that of solid wooden structures. Their width can, if desired, be 1 m.

Dimensions of interior openings

Standardization of canvases and openings is intended to speed up the construction of high-rise buildings. Projects of multi-apartment buildings provide for the same dimensions of interior doors throughout the house. Unlike high-rise buildings, in the private construction of cottages, small houses, the dimensions are often not standardized. Their width and height is determined by the preferences of the owner, and not by the requirements of the standard. Possible variations of external parameters require individual production of doors.

If you live in an apartment building, your aisles are the same size. It will cost less to install a door leaf for your living space than for custom-made doors.

To determine which standard width and height of the canvas will fit your opening, you need to take the following measurements: the width of the opening (without a hole, from brick to brick) and the height (excluding the threshold and thickness of the box).

These measurements are conveniently performed when the old material is completely dismantled. Then they will be the most accurate.

Calculation of the opening width for a standard leaf

For the purchase and installation of a standard door, the required opening dimensions will be the sum of the width or height of the leaf, the width of the frame and the technological space for installation. The parameters of the box are determined by its working load (the weight of the finished door). A standard interior box (or boat) has a width of 25 mm on each side (depending on the material and weight of the door). It provides high-quality fastening of the door leaf to the jamb and aesthetic design of the edge of the wall.

The thickness of the mounting gaps is 15-20 mm on each side, they are designed to fasten the boat to the wall and hide the unevenness of the slopes. Additionally, the thickness of the gap between the leaf and the frame is taken into account, which ensures the free closing of doors and hanging hinges. It is 2.5-3 mm on each side or 5-6 mm in total for 2 sides.

The height of the threshold (if any) is from 15 to 25 mm. In the absence of a threshold between the canvas and the floor, a gap of the same height is left. All values are reduced to the same units of measurement (usually to millimeters).

Calculation of the width of the opening for a door leaf with a standard width of 80 cm (800 mm):

800 mm + (25 + 25) mm (boat) + (20 + 20) mm (mounting clearance) + 5 mm (total clearance for free entry of the web into the box) = 895 mm. Round to 90 cm.

Calculation of the opening height for a leaf 2 m high (2000 mm):

2000 mm + 25 mm (bottom) + 25 mm (gap between the floor and the door or threshold) + 20 mm (installation gap at the top) + 3 mm (for free entry of the door into the hole) = 2075 mm. Round up to 2 m 8 cm.

That is, to install the finished door, the opening must be 10 cm wider than the canvas and 8 cm higher.

If, in fact, the measurements taken, the entrance parameters exceed the width and height of the web by much more than 8 and 10 cm, then the opening needs to be corrected, narrowed to ensure high-quality fastening of the boat. Dimensions may exceed calculated values by 30 mm on each side. With such differences, the gaps can be filled with mounting foam.

If it is necessary to expand the openings, it is performed after dismantling the old canvas and boat. It is important to know whether the wall is capital or whether it is a wall that does not carry critical loads. Interior doors in the main walls often have sufficient width. Narrowness, as a rule, is distinguished by passages in partitions.

The construction of openings of standard sizes facilitates the subsequent installation of doors, makes it possible to install the finished leaf, which significantly reduces the cost of the total cost of the door structure and speeds up repairs.

Like most of the dimensional characteristics and parameters used in residential construction, the dimensions of doorways for interior doors are determined by one of the state standards. In this case, this is GOST 6629-88 for wooden doors. It cannot be said that the document is capable of resolving most problems, but it is a standard that has the status and force of law, which means that its requirements are mandatory for all subjects on the territory of the Russian Federation.

How is the size of the doorway determined?

The above standard defines several sizes of interior doors and openings between rooms in residential premises:

 • For living rooms, the height of the door leaf can be 200 and 230 cm with a width of 70 and 80 cm, respectively, the opening is 210 and 240 cm high, with a width of 71 and 81 cm;
 • For the kitchen, the recommended length and width of the sash is 70x200 cm with an opening of 210x71 cm;
 • For bathrooms and bathrooms, unlike the kitchen, the width of the door and the opening between the rooms can be reduced to 60 and 61 cm, respectively.

As for bathrooms and bathrooms, GOST allows that, in agreement with the designer of the premises, the height of the passages between the rooms can be reduced to 185 cm.

Note! All interior doors currently produced on the territory of the Russian Federation must comply with the requirements of GOST in terms of parameters.

Otherwise, the manufactured products will not pass certification, which means that they cannot be allowed for sale. And it must be admitted that in most cases the requirements of the law are met by domestic producers.

How to choose an interior door, taking into account the doorway

Another thing is imported goods, these products often have a very large variation in size. Most often imported from Europe are interior door structures with a width of 70-90 cm and a height of 220-240 cm. Most importers are simple dealers, and they do not delve into the differences between the layouts inside apartments in a modern new building and houses built according to Soviet GOSTs.

Problems measuring an interior doorway

The standard doorway between the adjacent rooms of the Soviet high-rise building will be larger than the dimensions for a new door in a modern house. Why?

Firstly, GOST No. 6629-88 prescribes that the size of the door block of the door between rooms, for example, 70x200 cm, will be equal to 75x205 cm, and the opening should be 82x210 cm. This means that when buying a new interior door, the canvas of which has a width of 70 cm and a height of 200 cm, inserting it into the opening from the old Soviet door 70x200 will be quite problematic for two reasons:

 1. The new door structure, even with the wedges, will be small for a huge opening, and it will be impossible to fix the new door frame inside the old opening with standard size studs or self-tapping screws, they simply will not reach the walls;
 2. Even if the new block between the rooms was fixed with oversized fasteners, the space around the box is clogged with wooden trimmings and mounting foam, anyway, after installing the platbands, they will not close the gaps in the opening.

Note! This situation very often happens when installing a new one made of MDF board instead of an old wooden interior door.

The thickness of the MDF door frame is 20-30 mm thinner than the Soviet wooden door block. After replacing the door between the rooms, the plane of the wall adjacent to the contour of the opening has to be sealed with plaster mesh and gypsum putty, which adds additional costs to the repair estimate.

The reason for this discrepancy lies in the different technology of installation of door structures of a modern type and installed twenty years ago. At the end of the last century, a plaster or concrete mortar was used for installation, which threw the space around the installed intra-apartment structure. According to the old technology, the size of the passage inside the room should be at least 5 cm larger than the block, otherwise it would be impossible to compact the cement-sand mixture laid in the gap.

Modern methods of installing door structures use polyurethane foam, so the opening is larger than the door block by a few millimeters.

In such a situation, neither additional elements nor oversized platbands can help. The former are used to increase the depth of the door frame, but not the door block. Even if you collect the loot according to the size of the opening, this will lead to the appearance of huge gaps between the canvas and the block.

The use of oversized platbands can help close the gaps from the old opening, but in practice this method is used very rarely due to the unattractive appearance of the resulting structure.

A real way to change the situation is to lay a part of the passage between adjacent rooms or pick up a door with an increased leaf size.

The least critical situation is with the depth of the door block. Traditionally, the door between rooms inside the room is installed so that the thickness of the leaf corresponds to the section of the partition between the rooms. But even if, for objective reasons, the depth of the partition is greater than the thickness of the sash, the situation can be corrected by installing additional blocks when assembling the loot.

We measure the doorway of the interior passage

In the process of designing modern high-rise buildings, the customer lays down the size of the opening inside the apartment exactly according to the characteristics of the ordered door blocks with interior doors. A paradoxical situation has arisen when the door, as a finished product, goes on sale in strict accordance with the requirements of GOST, and during construction the door structure is installed at the request of the designer.

If the house is supposed to be repaired with the replacement of doors inside the room, before placing an order for the purchase and delivery of new door structures, it would be very correct to measure the actual dimensions of the canvas and frame of the old door according to the above diagram.

Initially, you will need to measure the door leaf, you can make a measurement with a construction tape measure in the center or center line. The next step is to measure the inside of the door frame. Since the wooden box is assembled by hand, its size, unlike the canvas, can vary significantly in different places. Therefore, the measurement is performed at a minimum of three points. The width of the opening is measured last. To do this, remove the platbands and measure the narrowest place.

Conclusion

Before making a final verdict or deciding which wooden door will be installed, look at alternative metal-plastic or MDF options. The appearance and consumer qualities of such structures are no worse than wooden ones, and in some cases installation and assembly is carried out at the expense of the store, which will significantly reduce your repair efforts.

To separate two rooms, interior doors are mainly used. Today, these structures are made not only from wood. Sometimes materials such as plastic or glass are used. They look great not only in an apartment or house, but also in the office.

Kinds

Doors between rooms serve specific purposes. Among the main functions of these structures:

 • partition between two separate rooms;
 • stylish and beautiful appearance of the product;
 • mute noise.

The most popular material used for the manufacture of these structures is wood. Often used ash and pine. Oak is a more expensive material. The better and stronger the tree, the more expensive its price, respectively.

Most often, the most expensive models are made from solid wood. They meet the necessary requirements for high quality doors. Manufacturers make them in completely different ways, which is why they have different colors, different designs, as well as all kinds of sizes.

Today, veneer doors between rooms are quite popular. In their appearance, they are not at all inferior to expensive models from a bar. At the same time, their price is much lower and more acceptable for the average buyer.

Cheap wood is taken as the basis of these products. At the last stage of manufacturing, it is simply upholstered with veneer. For additional decor, all kinds of glass inserts or carvings are used. It is advisable to install them in rooms with low humidity. Thus, you can greatly extend their service life.

In order to purchase a quality door, you need to determine:

 • the amount you are willing to spend on the purchase;
 • for which room in the house the door is intended;
 • the general interior of the room in order to be able to decide on the color of the future door.

There are also double and single models. The second type is most often used.

Buying finished products today will not be any particular difficulty. This can be done both in the store and online.

Dimensions

Another issue at the stage of construction or repair is the determination of the size of the opening under the door. When planning to order these products from a certain manufacturer in the future, you should not worry about these parameters.

The dimensions of the Chinese door on the box are measured according to the standard scheme. The standard size of the interior door, together with the box, is chosen in order to save money. For room doors, standard measurements are easy to make.

With a clearly allocated budget, it is better to think about the standard sizes of openings for further installation of doors between rooms. So, you can accurately plan your expenses, because building stores offer a large selection of designs of various parameters.

Today, manufacturers offer customers many variations of door panels on the subject of texture, size and style.

However, before making a purchase, check the doorway - whether it matches the desired dimensions.

As a rule, the following door sizes are the optimal parameters that are popular:

 • width - 0.6 m, 0.7 m or 0.8 m;
 • usually the height is 2 meters.

Now on sale there are also doors with a width of 0.55 m and a height of 1.9 m, and the thickness of the door frame itself varies from 15 to 45 cm.

Neglecting these data, you can end up in a situation where the door frame simply does not fit into the existing opening, which will lead to additional costs (expanding the opening or replacing the door).

In the case of expansion, the placement of communications or plasterboard lintels on a metal frame should be taken into account.

The reverse situation is also possible, when the hole is too large. Its reduction also entails costs when contacting specialized craftsmen. If you are interested in how to reduce the height of the doorway, then you can use a wooden beam, drywall or brick.

So, we correctly determine the required size of the opening:

 • height and width of the ordered product;
 • threshold size (of your choice);
 • platband width;
 • thickness (depth) of the door frame.

When building a house according to an individual plan, it is likely that the parameters of the openings will differ from the standard ones. There are three options here:

 • Less costly in time and money. Make holes of typical parameters and purchase doors of standard sizes that you liked in the store.
 • More expensive financially, but with a qualitative result. Order a master for measurements in a company that will produce door leafs for you for specific sizes. Here you can choose absolutely any model, color, fittings and accessories.
 • Alternative. Purchase or order extensions (special strips are additionally attached to the box in order to increase its thickness). So you can install standard interior doors in non-standard openings.

Doors are manufactured according to numerous standards and regulations, such as GOST and SNiP. They regulate the dimensions of interior and exterior doors. It is difficult for an ordinary person to understand them because of the numerous abbreviations, terms and numbers.

The common dimensions of the box are 35 mm thick. That is, the door leaf of the box is 70 mm - 35 + 35. Now we measure the height. If there is a threshold, the height is shortened by 70 mm, if not, by 35 mm. So, the door leaf will be 100 mm smaller than the opening in the wall (both in width and height).

When choosing doors, you need to understand what dimensions the door frame has, and how these parameters affect the dimensions of the doorway. Each room has its own standards, established and caused by functional features:

 • doorways in the kitchen make 0.7x2 m;
 • in rooms - 0.8x2 m;
 • in bathrooms - 0.6 (sometimes 0.55) x1.9 m;
 • second entrance doors 0.8x2 m or 0.9x2 m;
 • main entrance 1.2x2 m - if single-leaf, and 0.6 / 0.8 + 0.4 m - if double-leaf.

The size of the doorway should be 0.08 - 0.1 m wider and 0.06 - 0.09 m higher than the canvas.

If, for example, the dimensions of the doors are 0.6 x 2 m, then the opening should be approximately 2.06 x 0.68 - 2.09 x 0.7 m.

A few tips on how to find out the dimensions of door panels:

 • A doorway without a door is measured on bare walls. Therefore, it is necessary to dismantle the canvas with the box before measurements.
 • Measure the distance between the walls in all directions. Write down the smallest number.
 • We measure the distance from a point on the floor (choose the lowest) to the top of the opening.
 • The depth of the hole is equal to the width of the wall, so you should measure all three (left, top and right).

If it was not possible to remove the door frame:

 • Measure the distance from the center of one architraves to the center of the second - this will give approximate results from which you can build.
 • We find the distance from the floor to the top of the casing.
 • Measure the thickness of the box, as well as the wall itself, if it protrudes from you.

As you can see, there is nothing complicated here.

When choosing the width of the doorway, you should take into account the fact that you will have to bring certain overall things inside: sofas, tables, chests of drawers, beds, and the like. Therefore, these things will not always “pass” into a hole 0.6 m wide. The optimal width is still considered to be 0.8 m.

 • openings should be smaller than the entrance;
 • the usual width of entrance doors should not exceed 0.8 m, interior doors - 0.6–0.8 m;
 • the standard size (width) of the door to the bathroom should be such that you can bring in a washing machine, plumbing fixtures, a bedside table, and so on.

The thickness of the door opening is most often about 0.75 m. The same thickness is offered by the frame manufacturers. If there are thick walls, consider the need to expand the box. Even if the difference is insignificant, you will not be able to hide it with the help of platbands.

The wall thickness is also measured at three points. If the number is the same - feel free to order a standard design, if not - you will have to file the wall in this place. If you do not align the walls, the platbands cannot be installed evenly.

Colour

The interior door must certainly be practical, but also suitable for the interior of your room. To match the color - combine their tone with the tone of the floor, furnishings and walls. Sometimes rooms have different styles. In this case, you should pay attention to neutral rooms, for example, a corridor. Thus, the integrity of the interior will not be compromised.

Among the most popular interior door colors:

 • universal plain white color;
 • light shades are suitable for the classic style - bog oak and wenge;
 • warm tone of dark walnut;
 • cold shade of birch.

What material to choose?

The cost of doors in the construction market can be different. First of all, it all depends on the quality of the door, as well as on their classification.

There are 5 main types of interior doors:

 • Wooden doors.
 • Doors made of glued solid wood.
 • Laminated.
 • Veneered.
 • PVC coated.

solid wood doors very rare in our market. Usually they are either made to order or imported from Europe. The cost of such doors is perhaps the most expensive, but their quality is at its best. The appearance of such doors is very expressive, and the high cost is explained by the complexity of their manufacture.

Doors made of glued solid wood- a more frequent visitor to our construction markets. They are made from several pieces of wood at once, which are glued together. Despite such a “mosaic” of their design, they are quite durable and perfectly resist moisture. Their cost is cheaper than the cost of solid wood models, but the quality is practically not inferior. This explains their high popularity in the construction market.

Laminated doors appeared on the construction market relatively recently, but quickly occupied their niche. This is primarily due to their budget. Of course, they do not differ in winning appearance, however, despite this, they still find their buyer. Their second plus is sufficient lightness. They are made of fiberboard, which is laminated on the outside.

You should not choose very cheap copies, as they can be very short-lived.

Veneered doors found on the market much more often than all other species. Their high popularity is explained by the fact that they fall into the middle price segment, with an optimal combination of price / quality. It should also be noted that the variety of types of these doors is very large, so there is plenty to choose from.

PVC coated doors appeared on the market quite recently - the latest. The material of these doors is covered with a special PVC film, which gives the door several advantages - it protects against moisture and is easy to clean. The production of these doors is mainly carried out by manufacturers from China.

What are there?

Thanks to the efforts of designers, a huge number of types of interior doors have been created:

 • ordinary single-leaf;
 • decorated with decorative inserts;
 • double-leaf door leaves that give the room solemnity;
 • sliding doors that seem to slide along the wall and save space.

Harmonicas organically fit into a modern interior. In addition, the door leaf is just an excellent springboard for creative fantasies. On its surface, you can draw your favorite cartoon characters or lay out a fun panel of ornamental materials. All this can be done if there is a child in the house.

When repairing, it is necessary to pay due attention to the installation of interior doors. Of course, there are certain standard dimensions, but in order not to have to destroy the wall or change the already selected canvas, it is necessary to study all the nuances. In this case, it is important to correctly calculate the dimensions of the opening, to know the standard and features of different types of structures. In the modern market, you can find domestic and foreign products, it is important to remember that GOSTs are different.

GOST web size indicators

The parameters of the door leaf must be taken into account when calculating the opening. Doors and frame have standard sizes approved by the state.
GOST table of interior linens:

Type of roomWidth cmHeight cmDepth cmkitchen702007Bathroom, bath55-60190-2005-7room802007-20Living room (double door 120 (two canvases)2007-20

If repairs were previously carried out, the walls were leveled or dismantled, the depth may not correspond to the above data.

The market offers a wide range of doors and components from domestic and foreign manufacturers. Most often, products have a height of 200 cm, a width of 60, 70, 80 cm (less often 190 by 60, 70.80 cm). The thickness of the door frame starts from 15 mm to 45 mm. Knowing the standards and dimensions of the doorway, you can choose the best option. There are situations when ignoring the parameters ends with an expansion of the opening or the return of a newly acquired canvas.

When buying a canvas from a foreign company, you need to carefully study the dimensions because their standard is somewhat different.

Formula for measuring a doorway

If it is necessary to make an opening, but the issue has not yet been resolved with the door, it is necessary to take into account the following points in advance:

 • Canvas dimensions: height and width, thickness.
 • Door frame dimensions: width and thickness.
 • Platband width.

Calculation example:

 • tight

Height (H dv) - 200 cm

Width (W dv) -70 cm

 • Box

Thickness (T to) - 3 cm

 • Mounting gap (Mz) -1 cm

Door block (Bd) - 2 cm

 • Threshold height (V p) - 2 cm

The formula for calculating the width of the doorway:

W dv + 2 * T k + Mz + 2 * Bd = 70 + 2 * 3 + 1 + 2 * 2 = 81 cm

The formula for calculating the height of the opening:

In dv + V p + 2 * T k = 200 + 2 + 2 * 3 = 208

Conclusion: for a door leaf 200 by 70, a doorway 208 by 81 is required.

Opening depth: standard 7.5 cm, so manufacturers make door frames for this value. If the canvas has already been purchased: you will have to make a box individually, wider - use an extension. Therefore, it is better to do the calculations in advance.

Algorithm for measuring the size of the doorway

To correctly measure the size of the opening, you must follow the sequence of actions:

 • Measure the height from the floor to the top (if the opening is not even, you need to measure in the narrowing area), to the middle of the casing.
 • Width - from the middle of the left to the middle of the right casing (taking into account the narrowing).
 • Depth is measured at the top, middle and bottom (to find the widest value).

A positive result depends on the accuracy of the measurements.

Table for calculating doorways standard:

Width cm Height cm Room type Standard
62 – 65 195 – 197 Toilet, bath 55*190
67 – 70 195 – 197 Toilet, bath 60*190
67 – 70 205 – 207 Toilet, bath 60*200
77 – 80 205 – 207 Kitchen 70*200
87 – 90 205 – 207 Room 80*200
97 – 100 205 – 207 Room 90*200
127 – 130 205 – 207 Living room (double doors) 2*60*200

Parameters of the frame and door leaf

The dimensions of the interior door frame must correspond to the dimensions of the leaf, taking into account the gaps.

The frame should be proportional to the thickness of the wall. If there is free space, use extensions that cover the gaps.

Dobor - these are racks around the perimeter of the box to expand the door frame.

The main element is still the doors themselves. The standard is defined based on the following parameters:

 • The height of the interior door leaf: 190-200 cm. Sometimes an individual approach is needed. When calculating, it is necessary to take into account the gap between the base and the floor so that the canvas opens and closes freely.
 • The width depends on the room.
 • Thickness - different (depending on the requirements of the manufacturer), standard - 4.5.

Features of double doors

For a living room, a good solution in interior design would be to install double-leaf interior doors. Attention, when calculating the dimensions, double the values.

As for GOST: the standard is a width of 120 to 150 cm. This range allows you to get a convenient, full-fledged and functional design. Thickness - 4.5 cm.

Details about measurement and installation:

If the opening does not correspond to the specified value and cannot be expanded, the following is necessary:

 • One leaf is in a fixed position and is used as needed.
 • The width of this leaf: 1/2 or 1/3 of the width of a standard interior door.
 • The second is a full door.

Both options have a big plus in functionality: they improve patency: it is easy to bring in and take out furniture.

As for the height: if the opening is larger than the specified standards (size: 200-210 cm), a special fixed bar is attached at the top.

Maximum web dimensions

The widest standard doors are 90 cm. Only a limited number of manufacturers produce products of such dimensions. In new buildings, such parameters of the interior door frame are not used, because the design looks ridiculous or cumbersome. Still, these sizes are found:

 • In "Stalinka".
 • In offices.

The most popular material for interior overall (and not only) canvases: MDF.

Interroom doors are intended for separation of two internal rooms. Depending on which rooms they delimit, they distinguish the parameters of the openings, the material of the door, the methods of opening, the presence of decorative elements and the geometric parameters of the canvas. The standard size of the box in each case may be different.

Door block dimensions

Domestic door blocks can be 60-90 cm wide (depending on whether single or double doors), and 1.9-2 m high. Such norms, taking into account the box, are fixed by Soviet GOSTs for standard buildings.

European parameters of a single-leaf door: height - up to 2.3 m: width 60-90 cm (to the bathroom - 55 cm). For a double-leaf door - the width is 1-1.8 m. At the same time, if the door has the same leaves, the width of the canvases will be 0.7 m, with different dimensions - 0.6 and 0.8 m.

The box can come as a set or be a set of bars that must be assembled immediately before installing the door. In thickness, it can be 1.5-4.5 cm, which means that the width of the opening should be twice the width of the canvas. The same rule applies to height, subject to the presence or absence of a threshold.

The standard dimensions of interior doors with a frame according to Euro standards are often indicated in modules (one module is equal to 10 cm). If M21 is written on the marking, the door height is 2.1 m. What options can be found on the modern market are shown in the table in the photo.

If you take measurements yourself, you must take into account the requirements of SNiPs: the door must open in such a way as not to block access to other rooms or passages. In addition, it is necessary to think in advance what material the door will be made of (plastic, MDF, wood). In some cases, it is more expedient to expand the opening itself and order doors for non-standard sizes with a different opening radius, for example, if the canvas covers furniture or the entrance to a nearby room. It is more profitable to install a telescopic door.

How to determine the right size

With the help of a plumb line or level, the verticality of the slopes is determined, measuring them from both sides, and drawing a horizontal line, find the width. The height is measured from the highest point on the floor to the horizontal line drawn from the corner of the opening.

The depth of the opening is measured along both walls and from above. On all slopes, measurements are taken at the top, bottom and in the middle. With the old door not removed, the thickness of the box and the parameters of its protrusion beyond the wall are determined.

Standard and custom sizes

The regulated heights of the interior canvas: 190-200 cm. They are used for openings of 194-203 cm and 204-211 cm. A door of 190 cm is produced with a width of 55 or 60 cm. For canvases of 20 cm - 60, 70, 80, 90 cm and double doors, with a width of 120, 140, 150 cm. The width of one leaf is 60 cm, the second can be the same or 80, 90 cm. Conditional dimensions in the table Further.

Which doors to choose are standardized by GOST. The living room needs a double door. The width is 60 cm of one leaf or 40 and 80 cm, which gives a total of 1.2 m. The height is 2 m with an opening depth of 7-20 cm.

In the living room, you can install a door with dimensions of 80x200 cm, with the same opening depth. To the kitchen: 70x200 cm, and for the bathroom - 55x190 cm or 60x200 cm, wall thickness - 5-7 cm.

If you need a door of non-standard sizes, you will have to make an individual order. For the price, it will be 25-40% more expensive. An increase in cost can also be expected with extraordinary design solutions (stained-glass windows, forging, bas-reliefs).

Before purchasing a door, it is simply necessary to measure the size of the opening. The fact is that GOSTs of past times adopted a standard height of 2 m. But modern manufacturers are guided by new parameters of 2.1, 2.2 and 2.3 m. However, not all new buildings are built according to these standards. It is important to remember that if the door is larger than the opening, the situation is fixable, but if it is smaller, nothing can be done.

If the dwelling has high ceilings, interior doors should also be higher than standard sizes. Here, the cost of an individual order cannot be avoided. Therefore, the dimensions of future canvases with a box and the mechanism for their opening must be calculated at the stage of rough repair work. And which model to install, choose the owners, based on the comfort of opening.

To determine the height of the opening, it is necessary to decide whether the doors will be installed without a threshold elevation or with it.

As an example, let's take the following parameters: height - 2 m, width - 0.8 m, box thickness - 0.03 m.

Calculation of the opening width: 0.8 + 2x0.03 + 2x0.015 = 0.89 m. Here 0.015 m - indicate the approximate size of the gap that is needed to align the box with respect to the slopes.

In the absence of a threshold, the width calculations are as follows: 200+3+1.5+1=205.5 cm (2.055 m). In this case, 1 cm will be needed for the clearance left under the door. If there is a threshold, 1 cm is added to its height. The parameters that are needed for the door: 0.89x2.055 m.

door material

Plastic is the lightest - up to 5 kg. Such a door will not be able to cause serious injury when opened if another person is behind it. It will not cause trouble in operation for people with disabilities or children. Suitable for common areas: bathrooms, kitchen, utility room, as well as for a nursery or bedroom.

A glass interior door can weigh up to 19-23 kg. It is usually installed at the entrance to the living room or delimit the space in the kitchen into a work area and a dining room.

Wooden doors are the heaviest - 26-45 kg. Such models are suitable for offices, libraries. With stained glass inserts - for the living room or dining room.

When choosing what the door will be made of and what dimensions it will be, you need to know the characteristics of the partition: what it is made of and whether it is load-bearing.
