The best tool boxes - an overview of modern types and the best devices for storing hand and power tools. How to make a wooden tool box Plastic tool boxes

The various designs of tool boxes discussed in the article are united by the ease of doing it yourself. Choose the right project and, guided by our drawings and photographs, make yourself a convenient portable storage for the tools and equipment used in your work.

simple open box

This box is good because the tools in it are located in their places and are in sight. You can’t put many devices in it, but there is a place for the main ones. An open box is useful in household use when you need to repair something outside the workshop: they reported to the box what was missing and went to work.

A wooden tool carrier comes out heavier than factory counterparts, so you should not plan it too bulky. The box will not beat the knees if you make it narrow. The high handle also adds convenience - you don't have to bend down low to pick it up.

Pick up suitable pieces of plywood and pine board trimmings. Mark and cut out the details of the box. Select the grooves in the blanks with a hand router or make two cuts with a circular saw and clean the recess with a narrow chisel.

Details of the box body: 1 - wall (2 pcs.); 2 - sidewall (2 pcs.); 3 - bottom; 4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2-1/3 of the thickness of the material

Sand the surfaces and assemble a rectangular box from blanks. Lubricate the ends with carpentry glue and fasten the parts with small carnations.

Saw out a central partition from 5 mm plywood, the width of which should be 1 mm less than the distance between the grooves in the walls of the box. Mark the location of the cutout for the hand, drill the entry hole for the file, and cut the plywood with a jigsaw.

Partition drawing

Spread the grooves with glue and install the partition in place.

Make two pads for the handle from a block with a section of 20x45 mm, rounding the corners of the blanks with a planer. Prepare holders for hand tools from the rails: in one, cut out recesses for pliers and pliers with a jigsaw, and in the other, drill holes for screwdrivers with a drill. Using glue and screws, fix the parts to the partition by placing them at different heights.

So that the surfaces do not get dirty for a long time, cover the box with varnish.

Toolbox in stool

In this upside down stool, you can move the tool to any place in the house or yard, and put it on its legs, reach for a shelf or hammer a nail where you almost lack your height.

Using plywood or OSB with a thickness of 10-15 mm, cut out the cover (item 1), longitudinal sides (item 2) and sidewalls (item 3) according to the dimensions indicated on the drawings.

Make a handle and four legs with bevels at the ends at an angle of 15 ° from bars with a section of 40x50 mm.

Assemble the stool by fastening the parts with screws.

Box assembly scheme: 1 - cover; 2 - tsarga; 3 - handle; 4 - leg; 5 - sidewall

Round the edges of the cover and the oblong cut in it, apply a finishing coat.

Box for the young master

If your child enjoys crafting or repairing, make a small box with him for his favorite tools.

Take planed 16mm boards and cut out the pieces according to the drawings. Prepare a round birch stick for the handle.

Drawings of the details of the box: 1 - sidewall; 2 - bottom; 3 - handle; 4 - handle stand; 5 - holder

Draw lines parallel to the edges on the sidewalls corresponding to the positions of the handle posts, drill through holes for the screws between them.

Remove the burrs with sandpaper and proceed to assemble the box. Connect the bottom and sides with glue and screws, then install the handle stand along the marking lines.

Now replace the second post while inserting the handle into the blind holes. Screw on the screwdriver holders.

Color the box in the color your child chooses.

Wooden box with lid

The necessary set of tools varies depending on the hobby or profession, respectively, and the internal structure of the box may be different. The next tool carrying option is suitable for any equipment, it is distinguished by its solidity and reliability.

Use light wood for the box: pine, linden or poplar. The optimal thickness of planed boards is 12 mm, thinner ones are more difficult to fasten, and thicker ones will increase the weight of the structure.

Required accessories:

  1. A pen.
  2. Corners - 8 pcs.
  3. Latch — 2 pcs.
  4. Loop - 2 pcs.

Mark the lumber according to the drawings and cut the blanks.

Cutting blanks for the box

Table. Parts list

Make sure the cutting is correct by folding the box out of the blanks. Sand one by one all the parts with sandpaper No. 220 and mark them. Assemble the bottom and lid of the drawer using clamps, corner clamps, or mounting brackets to secure the blanks. Lubricate both joining surfaces with wood glue.

Drill guide holes for the screws and countersink for the hats, and after fastening the parts, wipe off excess glue with a rag.

Fasten the blanks of the body of the portable part. Replace the dividing partitions by screwing them on the sides and bottom with screws.

Screw the carrying handle in the middle.

Install support rails inside the drawer at a distance of 30 mm from the top.

Clean out pencil marks and burrs near the screws with a fine sandpaper, blow dust off the surface.

Cover the box with a layer of polyurethane varnish, after drying, remove the raised pile with a “zero” and repeat the finish.

Align the hinges with the gap between the body and the lid of the box. Mark and make pilot holes for screws 10 mm deep, fasten the hinges.

Screw on the corner pieces using small screws.

Install the handle and latches on the lid.

Fill the finished box with the tool.

If desired, place containers with dividers or cassettes for storing small items in the large compartment of the drawer.

If you decide to add partitions inside the box, make them removable so that you can change the free space for a new tool.

This article is about how to make a wooden tool box. If you have a lot of tools and want to keep them organized, the best thing you can do is to create a simple wooden box. From our experience, we find them very useful as they are lightweight, durable and provide plenty of storage space for tools. Don't forget that you can adjust the size and design to suit your needs.

The main components of the toolbox are made from 20mm planks, as they have a beautiful appearance and are very durable. In addition, we recommend that you glue the joints and fasten everything with self-cuts. Try to screw in the screws as symmetrically as possible.

Upon completion of the assembly, it will be necessary to sand the entire surface of the box. Make sure all edges are smooth. Otherwise, you may injure your hands on sharp edges. Also, be sure to check that the heads of all the screws are flush with the wood surface. Get rid of dust and chips before painting.

What you need to make a wooden tool box

In order to make a wooden tool box, you will need the following:

materials

Tools

  • protective gloves, goggles;
  • ruler, ;
  • crayon, tape measure, level, carpenter's pencil;
  • and drills.

Tips

  • Pre-drill holes in wooden components before tightening screws.

Drawer decoration

Making a simple wooden toolbox is one of those projects that can be done in less than an hour. But it can make your life easier, especially if you work with tools a lot.

Smart Tip: Before joining the parts, add some glue to the joints. Immediately remove excess adhesive with a dry cloth, otherwise it will be difficult to remove after drying.

The first step of the project is markup. As you will see in the next step of the project, we will be using 1x8 boards to make the tool box. Therefore, you should use a carpenter's pencil and square ruler to mark lines on wooden boards.

In order to get accurate cuts, we recommend using a jigsaw or a good circular saw. Make sure the saw has smooth teeth or it may tear off the edges.

Smart Tip: Also, check that the blade will pass exactly along the cut line before sawing.

In the picture, all the components needed for the box. A circular saw can make the job easier, as many of the cuts need to be made at an angle.

You must use this blueprint when crafting crate components. Make sure you double check all measurements otherwise the components may not match.

After creating the wood pieces, you need to drill holes around the edges. As you can see in the picture, you need planks on the wood block to prevent damage to the surface. Drill three holes on the bottom and two holes on the sides.

Smart Tip: If you are not experienced in woodworking, you should draw guidelines for pilot lines. Indent from the edges to prevent splitting of the wood.

If the bottom edges are not smooth, you should carefully sand them with 120 grit sandpaper before assembling.

Coat the bottom ends with wood glue to strengthen the connection. Remove excess glue with a dry cloth, otherwise you will waste time cleaning it.

Press the components firmly and leave for half an hour. If you use good glue, it will hold the joints together well.

Still, screw the self-tapping screws into the drilled holes anyway.

In order to obtain a solid construction, we recommend using self-tapping screws. Work carefully to prevent damage to wooden components.

Smart Tip: Align all parts before twisting. As you can see in the picture, the edges should be even.

After installing all the components together, the tool box should look like the one in the photo below.

Make a handle out of a cylindrical wooden rod. Handle diameter is approximately 20-25 mm.

Smart Tip: Use a ruler to cut the rod to the desired length.

Add some wood glue to both ends of the rod before pushing it back into place. Then drill a hole and screw in the screw. Hold the handle while twisting, otherwise it may move out of place.

Smart Tip: Leave about 15 mm from the top edge to the wooden handle.

Don't forget to smooth the edges of the wooden components with sandpaper.

Smart Tip: Clean the box of dust and chips before painting.

After completely sanding the entire surface of the box with sandpaper.

Smart Tip: Apply multiple coats of paint, varnish, or stain to enhance the look of the wood and protect the materials from rotting.

If you want your box to have the same dimensions as in our article, we clarify that 1 inch equals 2.54 cm.

Hello everybody!

A toolbox today is a very indispensable thing for every owner. Most of us have a lot of different tools that we may not use very often, but nevertheless, we keep them, since not one repair can do without them. In order for the tool to be in one place, and it was convenient to transport it, we use special boxes. Often we just buy them in the nearest store, the range and variety allows us to do this. But why not make it yourself? The manufacturing process is not too complicated, anyone should be able to handle it, especially with a handmade thing, which is much more pleasant to use than a purchased option. This article will describe 4 different ways to make boxes, a photo report is attached.

Let's start making!

Manufacturing Method No. 1

We will need:

Material

Plywood;
- pine board;
- nails;
- wood glue.

Tool

- drill;
- a hammer;
- chisel;
- manual frezer;
- ruler;
- pencil;
- roulette.

The first step is to find the necessary material, plywood or trimming boards are suitable for this. Further, according to the presented drawing, it is necessary to mark up, then cut out all the details of the case. It is necessary to make special grooves into which the partition will be placed, for this we use a manual milling cutter, or another available tool.

The diagram shows the following body parts:

1 - wall (2 pcs.);
2 - sidewall (2 pcs.);
3 - bottom;
4 - groove along the thickness of the partition and a depth of 1/2–1/3 of the thickness of the material

When everything is ready, all elements of the box body should be sanded. Next, we assemble the body together, fix the parts with wood glue, and then additionally fasten with small nails.

Now we make a partition for the box, cut out a special handle, for this we use a jigsaw.

When the partition is ready, grease the grooves with wood glue and install it in its place.

Next, from the planks we make overhead handles, with the help of a planer we round the corners. Then we make tool holders from the rails, use a jigsaw, and a drill. The holes will serve for screwdrivers, and pliers, etc. will be installed in square cutouts. tool.

In order for the box not to get dirty, and to be protected from the environment, we cover the surface with varnish. As a result of the work done, we get such a homemade box.

Manufacturing method No. 2

In order to make sure that the wood was cut correctly, you need to put all the parts in a single box.

First, we assemble the bottom part and the lid of the box, for convenience we use clamps and corner clamps. We fix the parts together with carpentry glue.

Then, using a drill, we drill a hole for the self-tapping screws, we drill the holes.

Every man will agree that a high-quality and multifunctional tool box is an almost indispensable thing in the household. Many masters prefer to buy a ready-made box in the nearest store, where a wide range is presented. But such a device can be made independently, in accordance with personal wishes. Moreover, the manufacturing process itself is not considered difficult, thanks to which even a beginner can cope with this task.

Classification of tool boxes

There are several main criteria by which multifunctional products can be divided into several main groups.

According to the material from which the case is made:

By type of stored instruments:

Construction of modern boxes

Speaking about the design of such boxes, we mean not their shape, but the way of opening and the presence of auxiliary sections. The following designs are considered standard today:

Making a plywood box

To make a do-it-yourself tool box out of plywood, you will need the following tools and materials:

Before proceeding with manufacturing, you need to carefully work out the design of the future product (the drawing can be made on a computer or on plain paper). The necessary calculations are made, the main dimensions are fixed. Thereafter all marks must be transferred to a sheet of plywood. You can do this with a regular ruler, tape measure, marker or even a pencil. All blanks for the future box are cut along the marked lines. And also it is necessary to mark all the grooves and cut them on the blanks. The irregularities formed during the work can be processed with a chisel. It is thanks to the grooves that the final design of the box will turn out to be stronger and more durable.

The next step is to assemble the entire structure. To glue small parts, use high-quality wood glue. The main sides of the box are also glued together. To improve the result, they need to be pressed tightly against each other. It is best to use a special rubber strip for this. You can not remove it until the glue is completely dry. On the doors you need to round the corners.

A convenient handle for boxing with tools can be made from MDF. Initially, the layout is drawn directly on the wood and only then cut out. When the handle is ready, the surface must be treated. It is attached with carpenter's glue and screws.. If you don’t want to make a handle yourself, then you can buy it at a hardware store. The main criterion for the right choice is high strength and reliability. Now you need to attach the outer cover of the drawer and the door. All parts are applied in their places, and then the areas for fastening the loops are marked with a pencil.

To organize the order in the box, you can make small compartments. All components are cut out according to the same principle as the box. Grooves are made and glued. On one side of the box, you can make a special compartment for storing screwdrivers. The most convenient option is considered where this function is performed by special inserts with plywood slots. Velcro is attached to the other side of the drawer to store cables and extension cords.

Wooden box manufacturing technology

It is this option that is considered a classic carpentry. Drawings of this portable storage were printed in magazines 50 years ago. For the manufacture of you will need a high-quality board with a thickness of 10 to 20 mm, as well as a hacksaw for wood. Thanks to the simple manufacturing technology, many craftsmen still choose this option.

The classic design does not provide for the presence of separate compartments or special multifunctional devices. The final product will look like a neat deep box with a comfortable handle along the entire length. This shape of the handle has a practical purpose. After all, if the weight of the tools used is unevenly distributed, then you can always find the point of the center of gravity.

A practical addition can be an insert section with its own handle, the height of which occupies 50% of the entire drawer. This insert can be used for small tools(awl, screwdrivers, small keys), as well as consumables (screwdriver bits, electrical tape, drills). For its manufacture, you can use any type of wood.

Universal case made of plastic canister

If you want to make a do-it-yourself tool box, but there is no plywood sheet, then you can use a regular plastic canister. For work you will need:

  • Hacksaw.
  • Plastic container.
  • fasteners.

The canister used must necessarily be rectangular in shape with a comfortable handle, which must be located in the center. In addition, it must be equipped with a screw cap that will be used as a lock.

The process of making a box is quite simple. Using a hacksaw, you need to make cuts in the canister. The first cut should fall on the center of the neck and the handle of the container, it is best to remove the cork and saw through the top wall. The second cut is made exclusively in the horizontal direction. It is best if it is located at the top of the canister, on the end sides. The plastic container itself needs to be sawn from the top wall at a distance of 4 cm, and on the sides by 3 cm.

When all cuts are made, the canister can be opened. To do this, you need to bend all the side parts of the top cover with the halves of the handle. In such a box, you can store various materials for fasteners: nails, bolts, screws, nuts. The upper part must be closed by folding the handles together. Such a device is fixed with a screw cap.

To make the box as strong as possible, on the end walls it is necessary to make additional gaps. Small holes are drilled in the lid itself or in the walls, into which hooks are inserted, as well as bolts with nuts.

Metal box for tools

This option is most suitable for experienced locksmiths who have the necessary equipment and material. Factory metal tool boxes are made from lighter metals such as aluminium. As a result, the product is as light and durable as possible. But working with aluminum at home is much more difficult.

Even a beginner can make this version of a metal box. After all, the most ordinary box and special partitions will be made of metal. Initially, you need to prepare the main material - galvanized steel (0.4 mm thick). From the tools you need to prepare:

  • Marking caliper.
  • Metal square.
  • Ruler.
  • A hammer.
  • Pliers.
  • File.
  • Sharpened core or marker.
  • Anvil.

Next is drawing and marking. You need to mark only those places that will later need to be deleted. Now you can start trimming with metal scissors. After trimming everything superfluous, you should get a kind of geometric figure (winged rectangle).

Next, you need to use the anvil. Tapping with a hammer, gradually bend the edges of the workpiece. It is better not to work in a chaotic manner, all actions must be consistent. First, one sidewall is bent, and then another. To wrap protruding parts, pliers are used.

After these manipulations, you need to go over the entire structure with a hammer to align it. In this case, you get a small metal box for storing tools. In the future, you can experiment not only with the sizes, but also with the shapes of such boxes.

Almost every home has one or another tool. When there are too many of them, you can independently make a multifunctional box for storing them. Experienced craftsmen believe that such a box is considered an essential attribute for storing various devices. Such boxes can be stored in the workshop and even taken with you on a long journey.

Reading time ≈ 5 minutes

A real owner always takes care of the safety of his tools. Even a small set should be stored in an orderly, neat manner. A skilled craftsman can assemble a container for tools and fixtures on their own. Below we will talk about how to make a tool box with your own hands. The presented photos and videos will help in the work.

Outwardly, the box looks solid and stylish, it immediately declares a serious approach to the life of its owner. Its dimensions (70x40x45 cm), i.e. 70 cm wide, 40 cm deep, 45 cm high. This is quite enough to accommodate a hand tool. The drawer has 3 drawers, as well as a top hinged lid that opens up a spacious compartment. This box allows you to protect tools from dust, organize safe storage.

Required Tools

To make a wooden box, you will need the following tools:

  • a circular saw;
  • milling machine;
  • grinder;
  • clamp;
  • a hammer;
  • wire cutters;
  • file;
  • wood saw;
  • chisel.

Step-by-step instructions for making a tool box

The optimal material for the manufacture of the frame is oak wood. This is an excellent durable material, which is durable and resistant to mechanical stress. It is better to take as a basis - glued boards with a thickness of 19 mm. This material does not have knots and rotten inclusions. With the help of a circular cut a strip 38 mm wide.

So that when gluing the individual elements do not move relative to each other, a carnation is driven into the first part a little, its cap is removed with wire cutters, and then a second board is stuffed onto the protruding sharp tip.

The boards are additionally coated with glue and fixed.

The glue that has come out at the joints of the parts is removed with a chisel, you just have to wait for the glue to dry a little.

The result should be a 38x38 mm part. Its butt is polished.

The edge must be cut strictly at an angle of 90 °, so when cutting the part to the desired length, one must not forget about the cut angle.

This technique will help to ensure the accuracy of the cut angle.

The location of each part is marked so as not to get confused during assembly.

A groove is cut in each part along the entire length, it must go strictly in the center.

The grooves can be made either with a stationary circular saw or with a milling machine.

On parts that are intended for the manufacture of vertical corner supports of the frame, transverse markings are made.

Another longitudinal groove is made in the rear corner parts. It is not needed in the front corner bearings.

For subsequent fastening in the end part of the blanks, you need to find the center, noting the point of intersection of the diagonals.

It is necessary to carefully check the compatibility of the blanks.

The blanks are processed with a file.

In a freely assembled frame, marks are made to subsequently lengthen the grooves.

The grooves are cut with a hacksaw for wood.

Remove all excess with a chisel.

These blanks are needed for drawers. A corner is sawn from the end part.

Each blank is drilled for bolting.

Observing accuracy, it is necessary to drill the prepared parts.

The part intended for fixing and dividing 2 drawers is cut out at an angle of 90°.

Having installed the details for the movement of the boxes in place and fixing them, they gradually begin to screw them.

The corners of plywood blanks are cut off, as in the photo.

The walls of the lower drawers are attached to plywood sheets with self-tapping screws.

Prepared horizontal plywood parts are attached to one side. First, this is done without the use of glue.

During fixation with clamps, it is necessary to check the diagonal so that the dimensions match.

Drawers are made from plywood.

The grooves can be cut either on a stationary saw or with a milling cutter.

Details of drawers are fastened with glue.

The side parts of the boxes must have grooves for movement along the planks fixed inside.

For strength, the side parts are fastened with dowels, which are cut flush.

For reliability when gluing, small carnations are partially driven into the surface of the front wall of the drawers, their caps are removed.

After attaching the front panels to the drawers, they look to see if the individual elements are evenly positioned.

When gluing, it is necessary to observe the utmost accuracy, there should be no gaps.

At the end, the top frame of the box is made of plywood.

To make a precise cut at a 45° angle, it is advisable to use a special tool.

The blanks for the frame are connected and fixed when glued using a tension belt.
