The game, no doubt, is very comfortable and friendly, it has a good role-playing system, as for its genre, and yet it is a clone, secondary in almost everything. The developers lost their sense of style, the first part was cartoony and funny, in the second part, our heroine became more detailed and darker, at the same time more banal and boring.

But all this works and is needed only at a high level of difficulty, on the first two it all comes down to an unstoppable hero who, like a combine, moves through the levels, and even the “bosses” cannot stop him.

Of course, they are traditionally much stronger than ordinary monsters, they need to be bludgeoned for a long time, not forgetting about bottles with a healing potion at such moments. But in essence, the cleaning process has not changed. However, the distribution of experience points, for example, is implemented in such a way that the player has to choose between the preferred skill. You can't pump everything to make it work effectively. Either you swing one branch, or everything a little bit, but in the second case it will be an order of magnitude harder to cut.

Peculiarities

It is better to choose the class you like, pump to the maximum in the direction you like, run through the game. And then go through it again in a different way. In this regard, the replayability of Torchlight II good enough. Despite the not particularly outstanding design of locations. Let's be honest: before the release of Torchlight, all Diablo clones, and indeed Diablo itself, remained avant-garde. It was Runic who elevated the genre to the rank of mainstream. It was the Schafer brothers who guessed that you can simply joke about the genre from the heart; that it is not necessary to perform all the games of the genre in a harsh epic and pretentious way - obese trolls and clumsy zombies are another confirmation of this; that the game can be made more hospitable (ridiculous system requirements and stable operation without a single patch speak for itself) and friendlier (when loading the game, the game does not revive fallen enemies and revives you exactly on the part of the map where you left off before exiting). All this simplicity only adds to the charm of the game.

The creators acted so gracefully, bypassing a field full of bear traps with stickers "ambition" and "secondary", and tombstones of toothless diablo clones who fell into them, that they did not make almost a single mistake. If we don’t throw out leveling like Blizzard, then we’ll not just copy from the previous parts - we’ll leave strength, dexterity, magic and defense, but also add a fame scale - so that the famous hero earns additional points for developing skills. If each class has only 3 skills, then all 3 are necessarily unique, while skills are allowed to be pumped in random order, and not like in other games of the genre - passing through a long chain from weak to powerful.

And there are really VERY many skills here, and the way they are animated is just great. The engineer will build futuristic turrets, and the magician will surround himself with dead allies; Adepts of hand-to-hand combat will certainly use the berserker, with all the ensuing consequences when the shooter (analogous to the demon hunter) will work with firearms. But the authors did not drive everything into the stupid conventions inherent in the genre - here, for example, you can find a scroll that any class will use on an equal footing. And now the berserker, surrounded by a crowd of faithful ghouls, shoots monsters and douses them with a charge of electricity.

Help in all this will be provided to you by a faithful pet (now there are as many as 8 pieces available to choose from), which has become a real hallmark of the series. Add to this the fact that he can eat fish and turn into a tarantula or a mini-dinosaur, in every possible way punish the adversary who has encroached on the life of his master and run into the city in order to throw off all the unnecessary trash to the merchant - and you will get the opportunity not to break away from cleaning randomly generated dungeons on a tiring run to the city.

Well, it is impossible to keep silent about the incredibly elaborated world. If earlier you were given, in fact, several multi-level dungeons, now you have access to a huge, well-developed world with forests, deserts and frosty lands.

And where there are new locations, there are certainly new enemies. The creators literally go out of their way to surprise the player with their menagerie: revived mushrooms, tapeworms the size of a man, gigantic insects. And this is not the whole list - the imagination of developers truly has no limit.

Here's an honest word, hand on heart, I'll say one thing: after beating the game, I had a desire to shake hands and sincerely thank every person that was somehow involved in the creation of the game, be it a tester, a level designer or even a cleaner. After all, Torchlight 2 is the most ordinary fairy tale, and deliberately naive. Just watch what contrast the game is built on. Before the start of the battle, there was a real hell at the location, giant tentacles climbed out of the ground, and the local boss tried to dismember you. But after you defeat him, the tentacles will certainly evaporate, instead of the boss, a unicorn will appear from the air, and a green carpet will certainly cover the ground and everything around will bloom. After Diablo 2 (and no, there is no typo here) and the crowd of its imitators who set the fashion for gothic style and pathos, this is a breath of fresh air (sorry for this cliché, but that's the way it is).

Moreover, traveling around the world of the game, you will definitely become a member of some well-staged and played scene. If you wander into an Aboriginal prison somewhere in the snowy mountains, you will certainly save someone from captivity. If you destroy a peacefully standing hut, then disgruntled owners will run out of it with screams and screams and try to shoot you. And if you finish off a particularly nimble monster, it will leave behind a portal that will take you to some hitherto unexplored land, and at the end of the map you will definitely stumble upon some rare and very valuable artifact, be it a stone, which you can then insert into the "loot" with connectors for it, or a particularly fancy hat. And it is from this, from the little things, that the game develops into something grandiose, something epic, like the elements of a puzzle into one monumental picture.

Blah blah blah. Alchemist blah, evil blah blah blah, a threat to all living things blah blah. Blah. Approximately this is how you can describe the whole plot of the game. And given that he is the tenth thing in games of this genre, then you can completely go through the whole game without understanding who we have been killing all this time and who we have been saving, because the story in Torchlight 2, as in the first part, is completely optional - the more hilarious look attempts at the plot in Diablo 3 in the form of miserable videos on the engine and endless chatter.

In turn, the technical side deserves the most flattering reviews. Yes, the game cannot boast of rendered cutscenes, physics and the degree of interactivity that was in the third part of Diablo. Instead, there is a modest, comic-style animated intro video and pre-written animation, but the most paradoxical thing is that even in this form the game looks and plays really freshly. Revived concept art - there is no other name for the visual part.

Torchlight 2 takes originality: a huge world has been created here, where both people and steampunk coexist, I'm not even afraid of this word ... although no - I'm afraid of this word; in general, all sorts of creatures from all the fantasy literature that exists today coexist in one work, whether it's Tolkien's zoo, futuristic robots, or various kinds of "nice" living creatures, as if drawn from an anime cartoon. Agree, to mix so many universes in one work, and at the same time present it all with humor (look at the character when you delete him - Stanislavsky would applaud standing; look at the local NPCs - what is an impudent cat with glasses on the floor of his face worth), - a truly daring act.

Musical accompaniment from the composer of Diablo 2 - Matt Welman is just right to publish on a separate disc - the entire playlist combines both a frantic rhythm and measured, pathetic compositions. It is impossible to convey in words - I just advise you to play with surround sound.

And finally, I would like to note the ideal interface - everything is clear even in English, the interface is simple and intuitive through and through, while everything is done in a pleasant, neat font; without unnecessary ostentation and does not block the floor of the screen - fans of minimalism will freeze in ecstasy.
