Kitchen layout with dining area. Proper ergonomics of the kitchen: a project with the arrangement of furniture. Active zones and their location

As a rule, households spend a lot of time in the kitchen, and housewives even more.

Therefore, this room should be as comfortable as possible, but also functional.

Of course, comfort and external order depend on the correct layout of the kitchen.

In this article, we will look at what planning methods are and how they are consistent with your wishes and the size of the premises.

Planning rules

The design of the kitchen depends on various indicators: the location of the room, its area and shape, the number of people living in the house and the placement of communications outlets.

These nuances should be taken into account during the development of the room environment before buying kitchen furniture.

By adhering to some rules of planning and arrangement, you can organize the most harmonious and comfortable kitchen.

So, consider the options for planning a kitchen:

Arrangement of reference parts of the work area in the form of a triangle. With this method, the sink, refrigerator and stove are installed so that the hostess has the opportunity to save time and energy as much as possible without making unnecessary movements.

It will be convenient if these items are placed in the corners of the presented triangle with an area of \u200b\u200bfrom four to seven m2.

First you need to decide on the installation of the sink, since it depends on the place where the communications are output and is the leader in operation in the kitchen.

After that, a place is determined for the location of household appliances and parts of a furniture set.

The stove should not be placed next to the sink for safety reasons. It would be better to leave about 40 cm of countertops on both sides.

Also, do not install the stove next to the window. But its placement next to the table at which the family gathers for dinner will be an excellent setting.

As for the refrigerator, it will fit well into the corner of the room without dividing the work surface into short segments.

At the same time, its door should open towards the wall so as not to take up free space in the kitchen.

In the area of the working triangle, in no case should you install high parts of a furniture set or equipment, so as not to reduce the area of \u200b\u200bthis zone.

Kitchen layout options

The L-shaped layout of the kitchen in the apartment is a universal option for arranging a room of any size.

But it will be most suitable for medium-sized square-shaped kitchens. For the organization of the triangle, which was mentioned above, the L-shaped environment of the kitchen is the most functional.

Since with this planning method, furniture and household appliances are placed along two adjacent walls. This determines the rational and well-organized area of the working area.

The advantage of this arrangement is the ability to form a comfortable area for dining and convenient installation of equipment.

The disadvantage of such planning will be the inconvenient arrangement of furniture in the kitchens of a long and narrow shape.

A single row or linear arrangement of the headset is ideal for planning a small kitchen.

In this case, only one wall of the room is occupied, so that the refrigerator is located on one side of the sink, and the stove on the other.

The advantage of such a design organization is the arrangement of small spaces.

The downside, there will be insufficient space for cooking and installing the necessary household appliances.

A two-row or parallel arrangement of furniture and other items is convenient for organizing a kitchen layout with a window located opposite the door or in the passage room.

Lockers with this method of arrangement are located along one wall, and a sink with a stove is on the opposite side.

The advantage of this arrangement of objects is the organization of spacious kitchens with the possibility of installing additional household appliances.

The disadvantage of a two-row layout is the difficulty in organizing a dining area and the unreality of use for small spaces.

The U-shaped layout of the situation is suitable for arranging kitchens with an area of \u200b\u200bat least ten m2.

With this method, all objects are located along three adjacent walls so that each of the elements of the triangle is located at one of the walls.

The advantage of the U-shaped layout is the ability to equip the kitchen with a sufficient amount of necessary equipment and take up free space as rationally as possible.

The island layout of the kitchen is interesting in its ability to beautifully and functionally organize spacious rooms with a square of 16 m2.

This is an ideal option for planning a kitchen-studio, since the basis for placing furniture and appliances is to install a dining table or bar counter in the center of the room.

It is this way of arranging a large kitchen that makes it possible to zone the dining area and a place to relax in studio kitchens.

The only disadvantage of such a layout is its unrealistic organization in a small room. The peninsular type of furnishings in the kitchen is a kind of offshoot from the last planning method.

Its distinctive feature is the combination of a piece of furniture located in the center with the main row of objects installed along the wall.

The advantage of this arrangement is a more economical use of space than in an island layout.

The last method of arranging furniture and appliances in the kitchen is a free layout or, as it is also called, non-fixed. This method is characterized by the presence of wheels at the table or cabinet, which allows its movement and change of location.

The presented photos of the kitchen layout in this way will show you this know-how in arranging the room.

As you can see, kitchen planning depends not only on your preferences, but also on the characteristics of its premises, in particular on the area and shape of the room. Therefore, it is very important to take into account the features of your kitchen even before designing it.

Kitchen layout photo

The simplest solution for a kitchen interior is a ready-made set from the manufacturer: buy, install and forget. However, in the process of operation, annoying flaws and inconveniences come up. I want to change something, somehow rearrange. Projects of kitchen sets, focused on the individual needs of the owner, help to avoid such manifestations. Where do you start in order to competently translate the idea drawn in your head into a tangible object of pride and admiration?

What to consider when preparing a project

Personal preferences, unusual room configuration or non-standard dimensions, no matter what inspired you to design a kitchen set to your own measurements. The main thing is to competently approach the solution of problems.

There are two sides to the creation of any furniture: technical and artistic. Obviously, artistic is style, color and decor. These characteristics of the future furniture set should be determined initially. They do not have a significant impact on the usability and ergonomics of the room, so we lay them down as a visual sketch.

Now let's move on to those indicators that determine the number of pieces of furniture, their configuration, size and place in the layout. In the list of questions for which we need specific answers, we will add:

  • is the kitchen used for homemade lunches and dinners
  • how many food and kitchen utensils are you going to store in cabinets and shelves
  • what is the most convenient arrangement of the main working tools of the kitchen for you
  • is there a pet in the house that is fed in the kitchen

Then we take paper and a pencil, and, taking into account the answers to the questions posed above, we draw an approximate plan for arranging furniture. This will be our preliminary plan. To get a full-fledged kitchen project, according to which furniture will be made, you will have to arm yourself with a tape measure, calipers and patience.

We measure furniture to the millimeter

As you know, kitchen sets with standard sizes come into wide consumption. They are designed based on the layout of modern housing. When creating a kitchen set project for yourself, it is worth keeping a certain reference to these standards. This will help not to reshape all pieces of furniture radically. Let us dwell on those sizes that it is desirable not to change, as they are justified by safety and ease of use.

The kitchen set has three components: the lower base, the upper modules and the working wall. Each of them has parameters, changing which will not add to your comfort. They include:

  • the depth of the upper cabinets - it should not exceed 450 mm; in order for them to organically connect with the hood and built-in drying, 320 mm are optimal;
  • height of the working wall - lay in your project 550-650 mm; at this height, you get the perfect combination of lower and upper cabinets both in terms of visual perception and in terms of ease of use;
  • the height of the lower pedestals (with a tabletop) - 850-860 mm is taken as a standard; this indicator is associated with the average height of a person, change it if your height is really very different from the standard;
  • the depth of the lower cabinets and the width of the tabletop varies from 550 to 800 mm; this is due to the width of the plates and other household appliances, which cannot be cut.

The internal fullness of the headset is dictated by the dimensions of the room. It is unlikely that in a cramped Khrushchev kitchen you can place more than 8-10 shelves and cabinets without compromising freedom of movement. Placing them on paper will help determine the exact number of cabinets and shelves. Just draw the bottom and top base of your headset, and you will visually calculate their number.

Layout types

The number and also depends on the type of layout.

  1. Corner layout. It is used in kitchens of any size, but is ideal for small spaces. In the corner version, furniture and household appliances are placed along adjacent walls.
  2. Linear layout. The most common type of layout, when the entire work area is arranged on one wall. It is not recommended for decorating an elongated kitchen, as it visually gives the space a corridor look.
  3. U-shaped layout. In it, furniture is placed on three walls, including in a furniture set and a window opening. It looks good in spacious, not burdened by a narrow passage, kitchens.
  4. "Peninsula". This type of layout is acceptable for kitchens equipped with a breakfast bar. It does not have a central element, and a bar counter or a cutting table adjacent to the wall divides the room into two zones.
  5. "Island". With this decision, a stove or sink is placed in the center of the kitchen, complemented by a worktop for kitchen utensils. It is rare, because it requires space and high ceilings to hide communications.

Having decided on the type of layout, we proceed to the measurement of the territory on which the headset will be installed.

The correct size of the kitchen

To understand what dimensions of cabinets and shelves you will need, you should measure the length of the wall along which they will stand. Then determine the distance between the walls at a level of 10 cm from the floor. The same distance must be measured at the level of the future countertop and at the height of the hanging cabinets (approximately 2 m).

A laser tape measure for measuring distances, calculating areas and volumes is an indispensable tool.

Include in the list of measurements both all protrusions and utility outlets (gas pipe, water pipes and drains). In the window area, consider the protrusion of the window sill and its height from the floor.

When determining the depth of the lower cabinets, decide if you will have a floor plinth.

A prerequisite for the height of the kitchen is that it must be at least 10 cm less than the height of the room.

Consider the height of the upper cabinets, taking into account the ventilation outlet of the hood.

Put all the dimensions on your plan, indicate the places of communications in it. Draw the location of the modules, specifying their sizes.

Active zones and their location

Whatever kitchen layout you have in mind, there are always three zones of the greatest activity in it: a sink, a stove and a refrigerator. It is these objects that are used by hostesses most often. They are involved in cooking, storing food and cleaning the room after cooking. With an eye on them, all the rest of the furniture is lined up. In addition, it is necessary to determine the places for stocks and the surface for the primary processing of products.

Washing located near water and sewer pipes. The shorter the communication objects, the better. Obviously, the back wall of the sink remains open. Next to it, if the dimensions of the room allow, you can put a dishwasher. Inside the sink, equip places for storing household chemicals.

Plate installed near the sink. Between them, a working cooking zone is created. As a rule, it is a cabinet with a countertop. The distance from the sink to the stove must be at least 300 mm.

Fridge located at the end of the working areas, at the window or at the door. A large object, it should not interfere with movement between activity zones.

Important! For the sake of ergonomics and comfort, keep the distance between the stove and the sink no more than 900 mm, and do not move the refrigerator from the sink more than 2 meters.

Cabinets for supplies (cereals, spices) are placed and hung in the far corners.

The layout of wall cabinets also has its own standards. The dish dryer is located above the sink, the hood is above the stove. It is not worth experimenting with these objects, their optimal location is set by purpose, tested by time and experience of the hostesses.

Even if you intend to swap functional areas, basic recommendations cannot be ignored. It is better to place the stove on the right hand of the sink, and do not put the refrigerator near the heating system.

Symmetry and compatibility

Having drawn up a kitchen project in size and visually outlining the location of the upper and lower cabinets, we proceed to their content.

The important thing is the symmetry. The coincidence of the vertical lines of the upper and lower cabinets works for the external beauty of the headset and for the ergonomics of the space.

Composing the geometric pattern of the headset, do not forget about kitchen appliances. If you plan to install a dishwasher or washing machine in the kitchen, decide in advance on the model and find out its dimensions. So you can optimally correctly position all the items in the lower base. Remember about the hood, pick it up to the dimensions of the stove.

The next step is filling the cabinets. The shape of the facades depends on it. For cutlery, small kitchen utensils and pots, a cabinet with drawers is needed. It is installed in the immediate vicinity of the stove or between the sink and the stove.

A cabinet with a dryer or an open dryer, as you decide, is hung above the sink. The sink is also supplied with a facade. The space under it is used for the trash can and household chemicals. You can make a separate cabinet for the sink, without a back, or use the walls of other lower cabinets as a side limit.

For preparatory work with products and the placement of small household appliances, you can cover the lower cabinets with a common countertop. This approach is most often used. It looks aesthetically pleasing, there are no seams in the design, and the area of \u200b\u200ba single tabletop is enough for all manipulations.

The projects of corner kitchen sets include corner cabinets. They fit perfectly into the corner of the kitchen, save space and look stylish. Pedestals can be made in the form of a prism or located end-to-end. In this case, carousel shelves are used to fill the lower cabinets, and the upper shelves are used to store little-used items. If a sink is placed in the corner, the drying dish will also be in the corner.

Important! In a large kitchen, corner joints should be designed at an angle of 45 degrees; for small rooms, a right angle of 90 degrees will be optimal.

Style, shape, color

Having completed the technical tasks, we proceed to the choice of style. The configuration of the shelves and the shape of the facades depend on it. The general drawing of cabinets is a rectangle. However, designers offer both convex and concave facades. In addition, a pencil case and open shelves can become the final element of the headset. They act as limiting elements. The pencil case is used for supplies, and open shelves are filled with decorative details.

Materials are chosen according to the style. Wood and wenge in luxurious classics, glass and metal in minimalist high-tech, plastic and wood in bright modern. For countertops, you can choose artificial or natural stone, a fiberboard panel with a water-repellent coating, plastic. Here, focus on your financial capabilities.

Drawing up the drawing of the cabinets, decide whether they will be on legs or on the floor, with or without a cornice. The height of the facades also depends on this. In floor modules, the height of the facade is calculated so that when opening it does not rub against the countertop. The opening margin should not be less than 17 mm. In the upper shelves, the facades are equal in height to the module frame.

In the corner version, when two frames are joined, the opening for the doors should be 45 mm wider than the doors. This is necessary so that the doors open freely. The remaining gap is closed with a decorative strip.

In the end elements of the headset, with an L-shaped and U-shaped layout, it is better to smooth out the protruding corners of the frames in a semicircle so as not to hit them with shoulders and legs.

If you have a pet, be sure to provide a place to feed it. Perhaps it will be a niche in the lower cabinet, or a high open shelf, or free space from the door to the outermost element of the headset. The main thing is that household members do not step on and stumble over coasters and bowls.

There is enough table and chairs in the dining area. You can take the standard shape and size or order according to your own sketches.

On one's own design a kitchen set not difficult, but it will not be superfluous to consult with specialists. Discuss every detail with the contractor, perhaps he will find flaws in your plan that are easier to fix at the preliminary stage.

Color scheme and light

Color dictates style and your personal preferences. Affects the palette and position of the window. For the south and east side, where there is good natural light, you can choose dark shades of facades. In northern and western cuisines, it is best to use warm, light colors.

Another important color accent is the apron. It can be made to match the headset or, conversely, highlighted in a contrasting color. It is also useful to provide for fastening rails on it, which will serve to accommodate a ladle, skimmer and other utensils.

The project must also provide for places for lamps. A fluorescent lamp or LED lighting under the upper cabinet, above the cutting table, will improve visibility and facilitate food preparation and cooking. For the island kitchen, lamps are placed above the central object and along the side zones. In the corner version, the light can be broken into the dining and working areas.

Choose by color and household appliances. If you want the set to look in the same style, without household appliances that stand out in shape and color, use the option of built-in appliances when it is covered with facades or decorated with decorative strips.

We are sure that everything has been measured, taken into account and conveniently placed, go to the contractor and order your project.

Video

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house, because it is here that cooking and eating takes place, and it is also here that friends or relatives most often gather at a large festive table.

Therefore, it is necessary to plan the kitchen correctly at the repair stage: it must be functional, comfortable and ergonomic. How to do it?

Making the right measurement of the kitchen

We will need the following data:

  • total area;
  • height and width of the doorway;
  • the length of the wall, the dimensions of the main (working) and adjacent
  • room height;
  • width and height of the window opening.

Tip: The best way to design the arrangement of furniture will help sketching in the form of a diagram or photo of everything already in the kitchen (heating batteries, gas pipes, plumbing, exhaust, as well as counters, a column, a boiler, if any).

From the existing options for planning a kitchen, choose the right one

You will have to choose from the following types of design:

1. Linear layout of the kitchen

This option assumes placement of all furniture in one row along the working wall(do not forget to take into account the presence of sockets, gas pipes, water and sewer pipes). Most often, such planning is done in rectangular elongated kitchen rooms, where a dining area is located opposite the working wall.

2. Two-row kitchen layout

This design option is also suitable for rectangular rooms.

Just keep in mind that there should be enough space to install furniture on both sides, that is, the distance between opposite objects in the headset should not be less than 120 cm.

Only in this way will the hostess be able to move freely around the kitchen while cooking.

3. L-shaped (corner) layout of the kitchen

This is the most common type of design, suitable for any type of kitchen, even for the smallest ones.

3. U-shaped layout of the kitchen

U-shaped kitchen set only suitable for spacious kitchens, since the placement of all items in the headset is supposed to be along three walls.

In this case, the dining area can be placed in the middle or a separate area should be allocated for it.

4. Peninsula kitchen layout

Such planning is most often done to separate the cooking area from the dining area in the kitchen of a sufficiently large area, at least 15 sq.m.

This modern and unusual furniture arrangement is incredibly popular. Very often, such a project is chosen by the owners of "Khrushchev", combining the kitchen with the living room.

A table with cabinets and drawers, a bar counter can act as a dining or working area.

5. Island layout of the kitchen (Kitchen-island)

The island layout is the most non-standard, very comfortable. But it is rarely used: our kitchens are too small for this layout option.

In this case, a kitchen of any layout option from the above is installed, and in the central part of the kitchen room is placed a desktop of a square, rectangular or round shape.

This table is called "island".A cooking or working surface or a sink cuts into the table top of the "island".

We determine the location of the main kitchen areas

The kitchen has four main zones:

  1. food storage (refrigerator, cupboards);
  2. washing dishes (sink);
  3. food preparation (work surface);
  4. cooking (stove).

Regardless of the size of the kitchen, these zones should not be very far from each other. The maximum distance between the stove and the sink is 90 cm, the minimum is 40 cm, this is the main working area.

The distance between the refrigerator and the stove must be at least 30 cm, keep this in mind when drafting the kitchen.

Tip: If there is a gas stove, the interior of the new kitchen should be designed in such a way that the stove is at a minimum distance from the gas pipeline. If a washing machine or dishwasher is supposed to be placed in the kitchen, then it is better to install them next to the water supply.

Now you can start drafting a kitchen set

Furniture should be located functionally: between the stove and the sink, place drawers with cutlery, cabinets for pots, pans and other utensils.

A dish drying cabinet is best placed directly above the sink. When designing a kitchen, keep the following in mind:

Three principles for the distribution of necessary items

  1. Frequently used items and products should be in easily accessible places, i.e. on the countertop, directly below it or in the bottom of the upper cabinet.
  2. Periodically used items and products can be placed in the middle of the upper and lower cabinets.
  3. Rarely used - at the very bottom or at the very top of the lower or upper cabinets, respectively.

Kitchen interior design

When designing a kitchen, consider the laws of style and the use of colors in the interior:

  • The color of the furniture set and household appliances should correspond to the general concept of the interior.
  • Warm colors will make the kitchen more cozy and comfortable. Do not choose too bright colors in a small room.
  • Particular attention should be paid to lighting. It is clear that natural light is not always enough. Therefore, artificial lighting devices must be bright and located in the right places.
  • Additionally, you can install lighting in certain areas, for example, above the work area, hob or sink. Also, do not forget about romance: a small lamp installed at the dining table will help create a romantic atmosphere in the interior of the kitchen room. You need to choose lighting fixtures in accordance with the overall interior design.
  • The free walls of the kitchen room can be decorated with themed pictures that will complement the overall concept of the kitchen room interior.

FROMtip: You should not clutter up the room with things that are not related to kitchen utensils, as their appearance can spoil the interior design of the kitchen and the mood of the hostess.

And remember: the correct layout of the kitchen is the key to the excellent mood of the hostess and deliciously cooked food!

Pleasant chores or headache? Planning a kitchen is a complex process, even for professionals. There are no uniform rules for building a “correct” interior: each housewife has her own ideas about functionality and comfort. The taste preferences of the owners and the technical features of the premises are the main criteria that the designer takes into account when planning the organization of the space. There are many options for arrangement, and the possibilities of furniture production and built-in appliances allow you to safely implement even the most fantastic ideas.

Functional and comfortable space: competent layout

  1. Make the room functional - correctly place all the necessary equipment and furniture, leave enough space for a dining table and, if possible, a recreation area.
  1. Ergonomically arrange the work area so that it is convenient to cook.
  1. Become a designer: turn a standard room into a stylish object of envy of friends.

Triangle: layout rule

One of the few rules you shouldn't break is the triangle rule. The main areas in the kitchen (the area for cooking, storage and washing) should be located at the vertices of a conditional, preferably isosceles, triangle. At the same time, the perimeter of the figure should not exceed 3.5 m. It seems that kitchen mathematics is complicated? In fact, it is enough to calculate the minimum allowable distance between the main zones:

  • Between the hob or gas stove and the sink, it is necessary to leave from 60 cm to 1 m of free countertop area.
  • When considering kitchen options, choose the layout of the headset with the maximum length of the working surface around the cooking and sink area.
  • From the main food storage place, the refrigerator, to the countertop should not be more than 1.2 m.

Start the kitchen planning process by building a diagram: just draw the perimeter of the room, mark the locations of windows and doors. The starting point is the place where water and sewer pipes exit. If you do not plan to reinstall communications, then the installation point of the sink will remain fixed, and the rest of the elements will have to be built around the sink.

The second important point is the exit points of the ventilation ducts. It is advisable to plan the headset so that the stove is close to the ventilation. If the outlet from the hood has to be pulled through the entire wall, you will have to make a box to hide the pipe.

Successful layout options for large and small kitchens

Standard types of kitchens: layout

The choice of kitchen layout option depends on the area and geometry of the room. Standard planning solutions:

  • Linear. Universal planning option. Suitable for rooms with any footage. The set and appliances are located along one, in a single-row type, or along two parallel walls. A layout with two rows of furniture is called parallel, or two-row.

  • Corner, or L-shaped kitchen. The layout is suitable for square and rectangular isolated rooms. The corner suite installed along two walls leaves enough free space to organize a full-fledged dining area.

Corner furniture project

  • U-shaped. Functional layout with the placement of furniture and work surfaces along three walls. Restriction: between the edges of the lower tier of furniture at two parallel walls there should be a passage from 1.2 m wide. Suitable for square rooms with a footage of 9 square meters. m.

Non-standard version with a mobile stand for a small room

  • G-layout. Complemented by a bar counter or a peninsula, the U-shaped set perfectly zones the area of the spacious kitchen-dining rooms and halls. A working area, a dining group and a recreation area are delimited.

Island with worktop and stove

  • Island. Full-fledged kitchen islands - for rooms whose area exceeds 20 m 2. In fact, the island layout consists of two types: one part is linear or U-shaped; the second is an island.
  • Asymmetrical. Layout for premises of complex geometric shape. It resembles a U-shaped version, but there are no parallel lines due to the tapering shape of the room.

The combination of a linear option with a peninsula in a modern interior

  • Free. Furniture is not lined up strictly in accordance with the standard type of layout, but is grouped in modules in the room. It can also be combined in a single space several planning solutions.

Linear layout: simple solutions for different rooms

One of the most popular solutions in a modern kitchen interior is the linear alignment of furniture. Two classic options for the linear layout of kitchens - one- and two-row. The difference is that the furniture is installed along one wall, or placed along parallel walls.

Single-row layout organization scheme

Single row headsets: layout rules and room requirements

Linear kitchens are traditionally considered the best way to equip small and narrow spaces. The sufficient width of the room is 2 m. A sink is installed in the center of the working area, a hob is to the right of the sink, and a refrigerator is to the left.

Linear kitchens in compact spaces

The minimum length of the headset is from 2 m. The maximum length can be up to 4.5 m. Choosing a one-line layout for the kitchen is a great opportunity to save on appliances and expensive fittings. Instead of ergonomic top-tier cabinets with lifting mechanisms, you can safely order standard cabinets with hinged doors.

Black single row furniture in a spacious dining room

Single row kits are simply assembled from pre-fabricated modular kits. An indisputable advantage is the ability to mount a one-piece seamless countertop made of inexpensive boards.

Ergonomic and elegant: no "architectural" frills

If the furniture is made to order, then the upper tier can be made with a non-standard height - close the wall to the ceiling.

Parallel layout: salvation for walk-through kitchens

A two-row or parallel layout is the best choice for long rooms, when the front door and window are opposite each other, under the window there is a radiator that is undesirable to cover with furniture. Parallel layout is indispensable in apartments where the kitchen is walk-through.

Requirement for planning: between two lines of furniture, it is necessary to leave enough space for the free movement of a person and the unimpeded opening of doors. Minimum - from 1.2 m.

Kitchen with reduced depth in a narrow hallway: no upper tier

In two-row kitchens, it is advisable to integrate appliances into a custom set. The oven can be raised by 40 - 60 cm from the floor by installing it inside the cabinet-pencil case - you do not have to bend down to get pastries.

Luxurious snow-white parallel kitchen

One line in a parallel layout can be taken under deaf shallow cabinets. This solution will help to hide from the eyes of all kitchen utensils, small appliances and dishes.

Perfect kitchen interiors with a linear layout

It seems that the standard layout of a room in one line is boring and banal? Vice versa! The simplicity of the form emphasizes the beauty of the facades. The room is automatically zoned: the line of the working area is clearly defined.

TOP 5 simple and stylish linear options:

  1. Emphatically simple brushed wood facade with open drawers in a loft interior.

Laconic and stylish space

  1. Spacious kitchen-dining room with white furniture. The upper tier - without external fittings.

Working area - in a niche with an apron made of matte black glass

  1. Compact furniture with an addition in the form of a bar counter.

Zebras on an apron and a print on the wall: an original solution

  1. Luxurious two-row black kitchen with a dining area.

Stylish combination of black and natural wood

  1. Ceiling design with lighting focuses on the work area.

Corner kitchen - TOP solution for a square room

A popular solution for a small square room is a corner furniture layout with a separate dining area.

Kitchen with ventilation box in the corner

L- or L-shaped headsets: advantages and limitations

The standard layout is built around the sink, which is placed in the corner. A feature of corner layouts is the maximum length of working surfaces with small sizes. Installation of corner sets is a good choice for standard square rooms with an area of 8 - 10 square meters.

Micro area solution

Advantages:

  • Due to the long lower tier, you can reduce the number of wall cabinets without losing the usable area of the storage area.

With the help of the corner layout, it was possible to visually enlarge the room

  • The area is well zoned.
  • There is a large dining area.

Zoning: working corner area and dining group

A few examples of how fresh and interesting a small kitchen with a corner layout can look:

  • White furniture is in harmony with the natural wood of the dining group.

  • Bright furniture and contrasting color finishes.

Red and White

  • In corner sets you can hide not only the oven and microwave, but also the refrigerator.

Corner set in a neutral shade

  • Bright accents: orange decor, vinyl film on the upper tier cabinets and a refrigerator.

Small room with light fixtures

U-shaped and G-shaped kitchen: maximum involved walls

U-shaped layout is suitable for small rooms and rooms with non-standard geometry. It will not be possible to pick up ready-made modular headsets. To equip a tiny kitchen, you will have to change the depth of the cabinets.

U-shaped kitchen layouts will help to use the wall with a window: by connecting two parallel rows of cabinets, you can make a dining table by the window, saving a precious meter of space. Under the window, you can not install a stove and hob.

An asymmetrical U-layout is indispensable in rooms where there are ledges, niches, and the shape is a trapezoid or a polygon.

An excellent solution for a custom-shaped kitchen with a ventilation niche

The main problem is that you have to install an expensive acrylic stone countertop, which will be made to order. In this case, the surface will be seamless. When installing budget plates, you will have to combine and hide the seams.

U-shaped kitchen in a spacious room of a private house

The trend is the addition of a U-shaped kitchen with a small peninsula or a bar counter. Suitable G-shaped layout for spacious kitchen-dining rooms.

Island layout: chic for spacious kitchens

Islands in the layout of kitchens remain at the height of fashion. Designers combine island modules with all types of standard layouts - from linear single-row to U-shaped headsets. The planning of the area is based solely on the size of the room and depends directly on the budget allocated for the arrangement.

Fashionable gray island in a modern interior

Headset and island combination

The complexity of the island layout depends on the functional load of the module. If it is planned to embed a hob in the island element, it is necessary to conduct electrical wiring and resolve the issue with the hood.

Hood models for installation above island modules are much more expensive.

Bright and compact island with a sink

When installing a sink, you will have to bring plumbing and sewerage to the point where the island is planned. Naturally, the old flooring will suffer.

Without technology, but with storage boxes: island - dining table

Economy version of the island layout: installation of a module with a storage area, a built-in small refrigerator for food and wine. They also use the island as a dining area.

The technique is much easier to build into a headset located against the wall. The island module is combined with:

  • Single row kitchens.

  • Corner and U-shaped headsets.

Islands as a full kitchen: modern interiors

In the layout of modern kitchen areas in studios, full-fledged island kitchens are increasingly found. The shape of the modules may vary, and the finish is selected by the designer for a particular interior.

Full studio kitchen

The technical equipment of the island is impressive: in the module, for the installation of which 2 sq. m, a stove, refrigerator, dishwasher and oven can be installed. In addition to appliances, shelves and drawers for dishes are hidden inside.

Free layout: design solutions

Non-standard bold ideas

Free layout of the kitchen - for the spacious rooms of private houses. Furniture is not installed according to the standard scheme, but block modules are created, which are grouped in functional areas. Give preference to a free layout in the studio - the area will not be overloaded with furniture, and the interior will not become outdated.

Country: extraordinary layout

Kitchens with a combination of several layout options look non-standard. For example, a super-functional room with two islands and linear sets.

An airy bar counter as a dining table, set outside the kitchen: a bright solution for a trendy apartment.

A translucent countertop that connects the island to the wall: a visual separation of the kitchen area.

When choosing a design and layout, do not forget about functionality and convenience. After all, the kitchen is exactly the room where the whole family gathers, which means that everyone should be comfortable. Entrust the layout to the designer, especially if the room is small. After all, it is difficult to hide kitchen utensils from prying eyes without cluttering up the micro-area with furniture.

What do you think is the most important thing in the kitchen? What determines the convenience of the kitchen? No, not from the size and beautiful furniture, but from the correct layout.
We suggest you disassemble the basic rules and types of kitchen layout.

Basic rules to consider when planning a kitchen

Before embarking on such an important step as planning a kitchen, it is important to consider a number of factors and rules.

Analyze, or better, write out for yourself the following information:

  • composition and size of your family;
  • the time you usually spend in the kitchen, i.e. how much and how often you plan to cook;
  • will you meet guests in the kitchen or will another place be allocated for this (for example, a dining room or a living room);
  • does your family like to sit in the kitchen where you usually have lunch and dinner;
  • do not forget to take into account your physiological and characterological characteristics, so that it is convenient not only to arrive in the kitchen, but also to get to the cabinets;
  • also consider the kitchen areas, whether you will need everything, which ones can be reduced and which ones will need to be increased.

Below we offer you to download a kitchen planning checklist, in which you can write down in detail all your ideas and wishes for high-quality kitchen planning.

There are the following kitchen areas:

  • storage area (an important area, which usually includes the refrigerator and cabinets where you store food);

  • zone for working with products (we will refer the countertop to this zone, here you directly cut the products, prepare them for cooking). You can read more about how to make a countertop in the kitchen with your own hands in ours.

  • cooking area (this is a stove, microwave, oven, and cabinets with cooking utensils can also be included here. Remember that the stove cannot be placed next to the refrigerator and the window. As a rule, the stove should be surrounded by a work surface on both sides);

  • cleanliness zone (here we include a sink, a trash can, a dishwasher, boxes for storing cleaning products. For this zone, it is important where the water supply communication is located, so you can start from this zone);

  • dining area (eating area)

Given the above rules for zoning the kitchen, there is a basic kitchen rule - the rule of the working triangle.
This rule is desirable, but not required.

The work triangle is such an arrangement of work areas (storage, butchering and cooking, or in another way - stove, sink, refrigerator), which will look like a triangle.

The essence of this approach when planning a kitchen is that when these three zones are close enough, but at the same comfortable distance from each other, the kitchen will be easy and efficient to use.

Depending on the size of your kitchen, the size of the triangle will also be different, but a triangle from 4 to 7 meters is considered optimal. With a greater distance you will get tired of walking, with a smaller one there will be crowding.

But still, the working triangle is not a law, but only a basic rule, so focus more on your lifestyle, which will help you decide on the functionality of your kitchen.

Below in the photo you can see several examples of kitchen layouts that take into account this rule.

The only downside to this rule is that the kitchen will only have three main points, which is convenient for only one person. And if you have two housewives in the kitchen or your husband is also a fan of preparing homemade goodies? Then it remains either to make two triangles, or simply take into account the features of your kitchen and adjust it for yourself.

We have analyzed the basic rule in kitchen planning, now let's go directly to the types of planning, i.e. consider how to properly arrange furniture so that it is comfortable in the kitchen.

Types of kitchen layout

There are only 6 types (types) of kitchen planning

Linear kitchen layout

This is a kitchen in which all the furniture and appliances for the kitchen are located on one wall.
As a rule, this type of layout is typical and more convenient for small kitchens, as it allows you to maintain easy access to all areas. To comply with the rule of the triangle, the refrigerator and stove are located at opposite ends, and the washing area is in the middle.
It is desirable that the length of such a kitchen be at least 2.5 meters

Such a kitchen will be convenient and expedient.

  • if you cook little and are rarely in the kitchen
  • if you have a small kitchen
  • if your kitchen is one with the living room or even part of the apartment (studio apartment)
  • if you need to equip a zone for eating, and the dimensions do not really allow you to do this

The advantages of such a layout

  • simple and fast (if you are doing the planning yourself)
  • inexpensive (as a rule, such projects are cheaper due to the lack of corner cabinets)
  • takes up little space
  • good for small kitchens, but also suitable for large ones

Disadvantages of a linear layout

  • the triangle principle does not work well, which greatly complicates cooking
  • as a rule, the working area is not very large

Design Tips

  1. Start planning with a sink, consider the water outlets. If it is close to the wall, move it away so as not to hit your hand against the wall when washing dishes, or choose a wider sink.
  2. If the dimensions of the kitchen allow, then it is advisable to increase the depth of the cabinets to 60 cm, thereby increasing your storage area.
  3. Try to take 40-80 cm to the cooking zone, otherwise it will be inconvenient to work
  4. Use folding or roll-out furniture items, such as tables.
  5. You can choose almost any style in such a kitchen, but Japanese and Chinese will look better.

Corner layout of the kitchen (L-shaped kitchen)

The most common kitchen layout. Most suitable for medium-sized kitchens with square outlines (from 8 to 10 m 2).

The most convenient kitchen option for implementing the basic planning rule is to create a working triangle.

The corner of the kitchen from above with such a layout can be decorated in two ways: cabinets with a right angle, without an additional set inside, or trapezoid-shaped cabinets with an additional set.

The bottom corner can serve as a sink, cooking area or work area, and convenient corner cabinets with drawers can also be placed

It is advisable to leave a working distance of 40-60 cm between the sink and the hob

To make your kitchen visually look more spacious, reduce the depth of the cabinets by 10-15 cm on one side. Also, to increase the space on one side, you can not hang hanging cabinets. Another option is also possible, to place high cabinets on one side, such a technique, firstly, will help you organize a good storage area, secondly, it will make it possible to build in appliances, and thirdly, such cabinets look like a wall, therefore they visually expand kitchen.

Do not forget to use fittings, for deep corner cabinets this is an indispensable tool.

Another interesting option is the window sill, it can be used both as a countertop and as a storage area by making drawers under it.

Advantages

  • good for medium sized kitchens
  • convenient to organize a dining area
  • it will be convenient when organizing a kitchen in a studio apartment or a kitchen combined with a dining room
  • ability to use the triangle rule

Flaws

  • not suitable for narrow and large kitchens
  • the cost of the budget of such a kitchen increases, due to corner cabinets, special fittings in cabinets, with uneven walls - ordering such a layout to order

Double row or parallel kitchen layout

This layout of the kitchen is convenient for more spacious, but narrow kitchen spaces. Suitable also for those who have an elongated or walk-through kitchen. Or those who have a balcony door located in the middle and do not make it possible to make a corner kitchen.

The triangle rule is also very convenient and well observed here, since the sink and stove are placed along one wall, and the refrigerator is placed along the other wall.

Optimum row spacing 1.20 – 1.50 m

The advantages of such a kitchen are in its large storage system and the ability to place kitchen appliances in a variety of ways. Due to the lack of corner cabinets, the kitchen will cost you less.

And the big minus is that there is nowhere to place a dining area. Also, the downside is the fact that such a kitchen is difficult to plan on your own, as a result of which you have to order a kitchen, and this hits your pocket. Not suitable for those families where more than one person cooks at the same time.

Planning Tips

  1. Select zones in the kitchen
Let, for example, you have a work area on one side (for cooking), and on the other side a storage area
  2. For safety reasons, it is better to install the stove and sink on the same wall, not far from each other.
  3. If the door opens to the kitchen and eats up space - remove it altogether, make an arch.
  4. Despite the difficulties with the dining area with this layout, nevertheless, think about how you can fit a small table. It can be a bar counter, a small table for two, a folding or sliding table. You can use a window sill as a table, or if the size of the kitchen allows you to leave some space for the table. With a loggia, it can serve as a great dining area if combined with a kitchen. The most extreme option is to take the dining area to the hotel
  5. If your kitchenette is small, then you need to play with the color of the kitchen and kitchen unit. Give preference to light colors and make a set to match the kitchen, so the kitchen will visually appear wider.
  6. Also, to visually expand the space, do not broadcast wall cabinets on both walls.
  7. If your kitchen is not a walk-through, but ends with a window, balcony or wall, it is very important to decorate this area, since it is the first thing that catches your eye when you enter such a kitchen
  8. It is desirable to maintain a single style of furniture on both sides

U or U-shaped kitchen layout

This layout will suit both small kitchens and larger kitchens, but will fit perfectly into a space of 10-12 m 2 in size.

With such a layout, it is very easy to enter the rule of the working triangle, placing each of the zones on a separate side of the kitchen.

Often one of the sides of such a kitchen is a bar counter or a peninsula.

This layout is suitable for a kitchen combined with a living room, a square or rectangular kitchen, for those who like to spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Advantages

  • kitchen is not accessible
  • Plenty of space for kitchen utensils and household appliances
  • great option for smooth zoning of the kitchen-living room

Flaws

  • will be inconvenient for very small or very large kitchens
  • such a layout visually narrows the space
  • corner cabinets require an additional headset for ease of use, and this hits the pocket
  • if you are making such a kitchen in a large space, then you will need an island in the middle of the kitchen, otherwise it will be inconvenient
  • initially does not fit any kitchen layout (low window sill, balcony door, etc.) they will not let you put the set with the letter P

Planning Tips

  1. Rule of the Triangle - Place Triangle Zones on Separate Sides of Your Kitchen
  2. Make the kitchen lighter - discard some of the upper cabinets
  3. For storage and a visual increase in the space of the kitchen, on the one hand, you can make a built-in block of tall cabinets
  4. It is advisable to make the facades of the kitchen in the color of the walls and preferably in light colors - this will also help visually increase the space.
  5. Use additional fittings (swivel shelves, pull-out baskets, carousel shelves, etc.)
  6. Use the corners, let them be working, and not just idle and collect dust
  7. For such a layout of the kitchen, its lighting will be very important, since the ceiling will definitely be missed. Therefore, think in advance how to additionally illuminate the dining area, cooking area and washing area. For this purpose, you can use both hanging spotlights, LED ice lamps, and fluorescent lighting.

island kitchen layout

Consider this layout option if your kitchen is at least 16 square meters. Those. This option can be safely used by those who have a large kitchen.

The essence of this layout is that the working area or dining room is taken out to the center of the kitchen, thus forming a kind of island. In addition to the dining and working area, the storage area is also wonderfully located on the island.

This island can be of various configurations and differ in functionality, but it is advisable to adhere to the most optimal comfortable size of 180x90. It should be placed so as not to violate the rule of the working triangle, which is easy to observe with such a layout.

Advantages

  • such a kitchen is functional, since everything is within reach
  • for large rooms creates comfort, as it visually makes the space one
  • great option for zoning the kitchen-living room
  • convenient to communicate with guests and cook at the same time

Flaws

  • not realistic in small kitchens
  • in cases where you are going to move the cooking and washing area to the island, difficulties arise with the supply of communications
  • despite the fact that many people use the island as a dining area, it is still not complete for such a function

Planning Tips

  1. choose the shape of the island according to the shape of your kitchen, if the kitchen is square, then the island should be square, not rectangular
  2. for a large kitchen, you can use an island of round sizes or non-standard shapes, as well as attach a small island to the main island - this will allow you to perform different types of work or cook and eat at the same time.
  3. when installing the island, do not forget to make sockets

Also, the island can be turned into a bar counter by using the height or width of the countertop.

If you decide to make the island a cooking area and install a stove, you will have to take care of a hinged hood, keep in mind that it is more difficult to install and therefore more expensive.

Difficulties may arise with masking the duct, most likely you will have to invite a specialist for installation, and this is again finances.

You can successfully use the island, which is combined with the living room as a bookcase on one side and cabinets for kitchen utensils on the other, if you make it with shelves (both open and closed).

To increase the space when using the island, choose it with a through architecture.
An interesting design technique is to make the island different from the main color of the kitchen, in which case the island stands out and looks very stylish.

For those who, well, really want to have an island in the kitchen, but the dimensions of the kitchen do not really allow, there is the option of a small mobile island on wheels

Everything is possible or open plan

This option, as you understand, can combine all the layouts described above. But such a layout can also be complemented by a kitchen on wheels, i.e. when you have a minimum headset, and the one that is always easy to move. For this option, although you need a lot of space, you can always modify the interior.

So, we have considered with you all types of kitchen layouts.

Summarize.

In order to decide on the layout of the kitchen you need.
1. Map out your kitchen. Mark on it the exact dimensions, doors, windows, sockets, communications, ventilation, etc.
2. Design your future kitchen on a piece of paper. Also, magazines, the Internet or special planner programs can help you with this, where you can immediately visually see your kitchen.
3. Turn to specialists who will gladly take into account all your wishes and make the kitchen of your dreams. By the way, this service is not always paid, for example, in Ikea they will help you do it for free.
