The best plastic windows. What are pvc profiles and how to choose them correctly. How many cameras should there be

Plastic windows have already become so familiar that almost no building can be imagined without them. And it is worth remembering that a few decades ago they were a luxury that many could not afford. Now there is a large selection of manufacturers on the market, and many are wondering which plastic windows are better to install?

The best solution is to listen to the feedback of your friends and acquaintances. Surely, one of them installed good windows for themselves in your city. At the same time, choose well-known companies that have good reviews far beyond your area.

Criterias of choice

There are several features that you need to pay special attention to when choosing plastic double-glazed windows.

  1. All plastic double-glazed windows are divided into one-, two-, three-, four-, five-chamber and more. Single-chamber and two-chamber are the least heat-saving, although the cheapest. Five-chamber and above are the warmest, but often their price covers all useful qualities. The most suitable three-chamber and four-chamber window systems in terms of price-quality ratio. They are great for the harsh Russian winters and do not hit hard on the wallet.
  2. Next, pay attention to the double-glazed window. The wider the gap between the panes, the higher the heat-saving function will be.
  3. The manufacturer matters a lot. Well-known companies, thanks to the latest technologies, make plastic safe for human health. When buying double-glazed windows from an unverified manufacturer, you run the risk of acquiring a chemical compound. When heated, cheap plastic releases chemical fumes that are dangerous to humans, which are carcinogens and can lead to cancer.
  4. Be sure to require a license for the window system. It is she who will be able to prove the quality and safety of the material.

By following these tips, and carefully reading the manufacturer's documents, you can decide for yourself which plastic windows are the best.

Leading manufacturing companies: TOP-5

There are a number of companies of world importance that produce plastic double-glazed windows. After considering each of them, it will be easier to understand which plastic windows are better to choose.

At one of the factories

KBE is a German manufacturer of window systems. Although the company has been operating for about twenty years, it appeared on the Ukrainian and Russian markets quite recently, but has already managed to gain its popularity. KBE windows are among the most environmentally friendly. The company does not use lead in the manufacture of window systems, which makes their products 99% safe. It is important that the manufacturer makes window frames in different colors. That is why many consumers call KBE one of the best plastic window manufacturing companies. The only disadvantage of this brand is its rather high price.

During the repair, we must not forget about the "mirrors of the soul" of our home - the windows. When choosing between wooden or PVC structures, few people today prefer wooden windows that are expensive and troublesome to maintain and install. Plastic structures are a modern answer to the last century. But they are also divided into types and categories that differ from each other in many ways. Let's find out which windows are better to put in an apartment and how not to get confused in their diversity.

Components of a window structure

Before replacing old windows with plastic ones, it is necessary to study their main components: correctly selected elements ensure the reliability of the entire structure. The metal-plastic window consists of:

  • profile;
  • double-glazed window;
  • accessories.

Each of these elements is divided into different types and is selected depending on future operating conditions.

What is a profile?

Profile - the supporting base of the PVC window, on which the double-glazed window is held. The profile includes three elements:

  • frame;
  • glazing bead;
  • sash.

Frame

A frame is a blind element that is mounted in a window opening. When choosing a window, you need to pay attention to the material from which the frame is made:

  • Matte plastic is an impractical material that is becoming rarer. Its main disadvantage is that it quickly gets dirty, and traces of dirt and fingerprints remaining on the frame are difficult to clean.
  • Glossy plastic - outperforms matte plastic in every parameter. Of course, on the gloss, all traces and prints will stand out more, but it is also much easier to wash them - just wipe the surface with a damp cloth.

Bead

The glazing bead is a narrow bar with a thin rubber gasket that holds the camera. Its width depends on the thickness of the double-glazed window, the shape can be different - figured, rounded, square. They are made of two materials: PVC or glass composite, which is characterized by increased strength and higher cost.

Tip: the glazing bead has a limited service life, after which it needs to be replaced, so you should pay attention to the glass-composite product.

Additional functions of the glazing bead:

  1. Preventing drafts and dust from entering the gaps between the frames.
  2. Noise and heat insulation.
  3. Giving the appearance of the window more aesthetics and completeness.

sash

To choose the right type of PVC window sash, you need to consider its types separately. She may be:

  • deaf;
  • rotary;
  • folding;
  • swing-out;
  • shtulpovy.

It is a fixed PVC window structure, it cannot be opened. The advantage of such an element is its cheapness (due to the lack of fittings and panels), the minus is its immobility. It is permissible to install a blind sash only in combination with an opening one, otherwise it will not be possible to ventilate the room and wash the double-glazed window from the outside (if this is not the first floor of the house).

A blank window has a symbolic designation with the signs "+" or "×".

swing sash

This type of sash is much more convenient than a deaf one, but it is better suited for a window opening that has a large height and small width. The overall swing product creates some inconvenience in the form of a strong draft. Also, indoor flowers cannot be placed on the windowsill of such a window.

The hinged sash is symbolized by the mathematical sign "<».

Hinged (fanlight) sash

This type of sash in PVC windows can be tilted at the top by a certain degree. This option is usually installed in small rooms where it is necessary to economically use the size of the room and regularly ventilate.

Tilt and turn sash

It has the best reviews in terms of convenience and functionality of the design. It is a little more expensive compared to the previous options, but the window is not set for a year or two, so it is worth considering in advance the options for using the space around the window. The tilt and turn design is a sash that, depending on the position of the handle, swings horizontally inwards or leans upwards.

Classification of PVC profiles

Window profiles differ in the following parameters:

  • wall thickness;
  • by the number of cameras;
  • by type or class.

The dimensions of the profile are selected depending on the thickness of the walls and the dimensions of the opening. A properly selected profile provides better insulation and sound insulation of the room.

Number of cameras

If you look at the profile in section, you will clearly see that its internal space is divided into isolated chambers. In the middle there is a reinforcing metal U-shaped insert, other profile chambers are designed to drain condensate and create an additional air cushion to improve the heat-saving properties of the window.

The number of air chambers of a metal-plastic profile varies from 1 to 8 and directly affects its energy-saving properties. For central Russia, a profile with 2–5 cameras is suitable.

Thickness of outer and inner walls

According to this parameter, profiles are divided into 3 types:

  1. A class - the thickness of the outer wall is at least 2.8 mm, the thickness of the inner wall is at least 2.5 mm.
  2. B class - at least 2.5 mm for the outer and 2 mm for the inner walls.
  3. C class - does not have clear requirements for the ratio of wall thickness.

Profile types

Profiles for PVC windows can be divided into three types:

  1. The economy option is the cheapest type. The standard size is 58–62 mm. With such a profile, a single-chamber double-glazed window with a width of 24 mm is usually installed. Withstands temperatures down to -15°C and does not let in drafts.
  2. The standard is a generic type. The standard size is 62–74 mm. Three- and four-chamber profiles can be installed with a double-glazed window with a width of 38–42 mm.
  3. Suite - the most expensive and high-quality view. The standard size is 90 mm, but the range of sizes starts from 80 mm. It is a five-chamber profile with a double-glazed window 38–42 mm wide. Compared with other types, it has the best heat-saving capacity and has a more attractive design.

Types of double-glazed windows

A double-glazed window is the second most important element of a PVC window. The heat and sound insulation properties of the structure depend on it. They can have from one to three air chambers. In addition to dividing on this basis, the following types of double-glazed windows are distinguished:

  1. Frost-resistant - the fogging process does not begin at -35, but at -55 degrees. They are used in regions with a harsh climate.
  2. Sunscreen - reflects ultraviolet rays.
  3. Shock-resistant - Triplex system bags with a special film coating are able to withstand even strong impacts. It is expedient to put them to the inhabitants of the first floors.
  4. Energy-saving - due to special reflective i-glass with sputtering and the presence of argon in the chambers, they retain up to 90% of heat.
  5. Noise-proof - they have chambers of different thicknesses, they may additionally contain resin as an insulating layer.

Single-chamber double-glazed window

It consists of two glasses, between which there is an air layer that provides heat and sound insulation. Metal-plastic windows with a single-chamber double-glazed window are best placed in regions with a warm climate and when living in areas with a low noise figure, since they are not able to provide a high level of heat and sound insulation. In addition, the owners of apartments with installed single-chamber double-glazed windows complain about constantly “sweating” windows.

Double glazing

It consists of three glasses, between which there are two air cushions. Compared to the single-chamber version, this one has much more attractive features.

By varying the thickness of the glass and the dimensions of the chambers in the double-glazed window, making one of them wider, you can significantly reduce heat loss and noise levels in the apartment. For a product with a thickness of 32 mm, the ratio of the thickness of glasses and air chambers will look like this:

  • standard version - 4 × 10 × 4 × 10 × 4 - three glasses 4 mm thick with two chambers between them 10 mm each.
  • improved - 4 × 12 × 4 × 8 × 4 - the camera, located closer to the street, has a greater thickness.

Three-chamber double-glazed window

Due to the presence of three glasses and four air chambers, it perfectly retains heat in the room and does not let in street noise. It is not popular because of the large thickness, which is not compatible with every opening, and the massive weight, which leads to rapid wear of the fittings. For effective protection against severe cold or for high-quality sound insulation in the city, it is better to prefer energy-saving and noise-protective options.

accessories

Fittings are all movable metal or plastic window elements: handles, hinges, locks, counter parts of locks, various covers for hinges, etc. These are small in size, but by no means small in importance details that should not be saved on. These elements will be used every day, which means they must be reliable and of high quality.

One of the innovative inventions for PVC windows is a climate valve that provides natural ventilation of the room. The device does not require special maintenance, it can be placed in any metal-plastic window.

window measurements

After selecting the constituent elements of the window, it is necessary to invite a measurer home, who will correctly take measurements - the width and height of the opening. It is impossible to rely on standard dimensions, since in principle they do not exist - the thickness of the walls and the height of the openings in different houses are different, and the standards, respectively, are the same. Preliminary measurement of windows to calculate the approximate cost of the finished structure can be done independently.

And finally, it is worth recalling: in order for windows to serve for a long time and not be a source of drafts, you need to carefully consider the process of installing them. Everything is important here, from exact adherence to technology to the type of mounting foam used.

The place of traditional wooden window frames is increasingly occupied by plastic systems, which in the vast majority of cases have proven themselves from the best side. Unlike wooden windows, PVC windows are characterized by high energy-saving qualities, ease of maintenance and aesthetics. The material is not subject to biological decomposition, does not react with changes in size to changes in humidity and temperature, and is not a breeding ground for microflora or insects.

Before homeowners who decide to make such a replacement, the question certainly arises as to which plastic windows are better to install. The fact is that with all the external similarity, not everyone has the same qualities. Much depends on the right design, on the profile features and type of double-glazed window, on the component manufacturer, on the local window manufacturer and on the professionalism of the installer.

For the manufacture of plastic window structures, special standards have been established, which must be met by profiles for the manufacture of frames, seals, fittings, double-glazed windows. If the manufacturer adheres to the established rules, then plastic systems will provide a home not only with light and warmth, but also will not harm the health of the people living in it.

  • The first step is to select the profile manufacturer. The choice will be optimal if it is a well-known brand, that is, a company that has been working in this area for a long time and has won the full trust of the consumer. These include VEKA, Rehau, KBE, Montblanc, Deceuninck, Trocal. In Russia, other manufacturers also present their products, whose products also have quite decent characteristics. Nevertheless, choosing a little-known brand, it is worth looking for more detailed information about it. Today it is not difficult to do this, since conscientious companies are not afraid to advertise their products by posting their characteristics on their official websites. But if such information resources are not found, it is better to refrain from such a purchase.

Some large corporations, in order to reduce the cost of transporting blanks and increase sales, open their production lines in different countries, including Russia. These subsidiaries work under the conditions of strict adherence to the standards of the main manufacturer, that is, strict control is carried out at all stages, up to the final system. Of course, if such an opportunity is provided in the region of residence, it is best to use it.

  • But still, more often, the final assembly of window structures from components coming from abroad is carried out in the production conditions of a local company that conducts the necessary measurements and subsequent installation. It follows from this that much in matters of quality depends on the equipment, experience, and conscientiousness of the final manufacturer. But this is a separate issue that needs to be considered at the local level.

That is, it is very important to choose a company with the highest reputation for quality in your region. Even if the most expensive profiles and double-glazed windows are used, in case of non-compliance with the standards for manufacturing systems, or with illiterate measurements and installation, the result can be disastrous. Therefore, before contacting a specific window manufacturer, it is worth making inquiries about it from consumers who have already dealt with it, if possible, get acquainted with the work performed that has already been tested by operation.

  • For the manufacture of plastic profiles, in accordance with established international standards, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is used, which has high wear resistance qualities. The material is resistant to low and high temperatures, to their sudden changes, to ultraviolet radiation, to the effects of household chemicals. He also has very good mechanical strength indicators. The service life of high-quality certified profiles is estimated at least 50 years.
  • The number of cameras in the profile. In order for the window structure to perform its functions qualitatively, when choosing a profile for the manufacture of windows, this important characteristic must be taken into account.

  • The necessary rigidity to the plastic profile is provided by metal inserts specially designed for this purpose, which are located inside. It is better not to purchase profiles without such inserts (and they are found).
  • Glass block construction. It is important to choose the right number of chambers in a double-glazed window installed in the frame, otherwise the window will not be able to keep heat in the rooms. The choice of a double-glazed window is also carried out depending on the winter temperatures of the region. The glass forming the glass block must have a thickness of at least 4 mm, a smooth surface and a high degree of transparency.
  • Elements of fittings. The durability and ease of operation of window systems will depend on the quality of the fittings. Experts recommend choosing fittings made by European manufacturers, as they meet international standards and, as a rule, have an EU quality certificate.
  • Seals. These elements of the system ensure the tightness of the window structure, so it is also important from what material and with what quality they will be made.

The quality of heat and sound insulation of rooms directly depends on all the above criteria for evaluating a window. Therefore, they can be called the basis. But plastic structures from different manufacturers also have individual features.

Characteristics of PVC profiles

To decide on the choice of profile, you need to know what characteristics you should pay attention to. They will be presented in this section of the publication.

  • Number of air chambers inside the profile. Products from different manufacturers differ in their characteristics, including the structure of the profile, which can have from two to eight chambers.

The chamber is an empty space, hermetically sealed, located along the entire length of the profile. Immobilized air is an excellent thermal insulator. That is, the more air chambers are provided in the window frame, the warmer it will be. For regions with cold winters, experts recommend giving preference to a profile equipped with at least five cameras.

  • Heat transfer resistance coefficient profile. This definition characterizes the insulating qualities of a window structure. For regions with very cold winters, this parameter should be at least 0.95÷1.0 m² · °C / W, and for the European part of the country 0.6 ÷ 0.8 m² ° C / W will be enough. This characteristic of a particular profile can be found on the Internet or you can ask the selling company.
  • Wall thickness . This parameter is determined by the section of the profile, and according to it it is divided into two classes - "A" and "B". So, the profile of class "A" is made of polyvinyl chloride with a thickness of 3 mm. It is intended for the production of windows for residential premises. Class "B" includes profile blanks, from which frame structures are made for shops, trading floors, catering organizations, etc. The thickness of their walls is less than 3 mm. In practice, such profiles are often used for household frames, since it is very difficult to check this parameter for each of the assembled products. Therefore, it remains only to hope for the integrity of the final manufacturers of systems.
  • Profile width depends on the number of air chambers, and the larger this parameter, the warmer the frame will be. Window profiles from different manufacturers can have a width of 30 mm to 130 mm.
  • Internal reinforcement of the profile. According to European standards, a metal plate reinforcing a polymer frame must be at least 1.5 mm thick, and in large-sized structures - at least 2 mm. Due to the presence of a metal insert, the durability of finished systems is significantly increased, as they acquire higher strength. Fittings are attached to the metal plates.

Characteristics of double-glazed windows

A double-glazed window is a sealed structure assembled from several glasses and installed in a finished frame made of plastic or other material.

Double-glazed windows differ in quantity, thickness, special qualities of glass and gas filling of chambers

  • The design of a double-glazed window can consist of two, three or four glasses, respectively, one, two or three air chambers are formed between them. This table shows the thermal resistance of glass units of different designs:
Double-glazed window designThickness of glass and air chamber, mm (glass-camera-glass)The total thickness of the double-glazed window, mm
single chamber4-12-4 20 0.32÷0.34
single chamber4-16-4 24 0.35÷0.37
Double chamber4-8-4-8-4 28 0.48÷0.50
Double chamber4-10-4-10-4 32 0.53÷0.55
Double chamber4-12-4-12-4 36 0.56÷0.58
Double chamber4-12-4-6-4 30 0.47
Double chamber6-10-4-6-4 30 0.44

In any window system, a double-glazed window occupies 80% of its area, so the more chambers in a glass block, the warmer the window.

The thickness of the glasses used to create a double-glazed window is 4÷6 mm. by the most widespread for apartments and houses are single-chamber and double-glazed windows with air chambers of different widths. Three-chamber options are used less frequently and, as a rule, only in the northern regions, since a two-chamber design is quite enough for the main part of Russia.

During the assembly of the structure, the air chambers are hermetically sealed with a special composition of rubber-bitumen sealant. In the lower part of each there is a compartment filled with a moisture-absorbing composition, so that when the temperature drops, the inside of the glass does not fog up. Several types of glasses have been developed for double-glazed windows, which are designed to perform certain functions. When choosing windows for your home, you should definitely ask in a company that an order for manufacturing will be made, what glass options they can offer.

  • Please note that the distance between the panes (that is, the width of the chambers) in one two- or three-chamber double-glazed window may be different. This achieves the maximum effect of sound insulation. Sound waves "break" in closed spaces of different widths, which eliminates the phenomenon of resonance. Such double-glazed windows will be preferable for those owners whose houses are located in a noisy area, for example, on a very busy street, near highways, railway lines, etc.
  • There may be differences in the filling of the double-glazed chambers. Most often, inexpensive air-filled options are offered. However, higher thermal and sound insulation qualities are inherent in packages with chambers containing an inert gas. As a rule, this is argon, although, judging by the reviews, some companies offer krypton or xenon filling, with the highest performance. True, there is already a completely different price level, so such options are hardly worth considering seriously. Yes, and there is no particular need for this.
  • Energy saving glazing. In preparation for the installation of glass in a double-glazed window, a special coating can be applied to their surface that can reflect heat into the premises. This option is especially good for homes located in regions with harsh winters.

  • Sunglasses have a tinted surface coating. can have different intensities and shades, as well as even a mirror, completely reflective surface. This protection helps keep you cool. in the room in summer period. This glass option will be the best option if the windows of an apartment or house face the sunny side.
  • Tempered glass is produced using approximately the same technology as automotive glass. If you try to break such a double-glazed window, it will give numerous cracks, but will not shatter into fragments.
  • Armored glasses are characterized by a high level of strength and withstand powerful enough mechanical influences. Due to these characteristics, glasses are used not only for the manufacture of double-glazed windows for windows on the first floors, but also for large showcases.

  • Reinforced glass includes in its structure a metal mesh with cells of different sizes. Naturally, resistance to mechanical impact or vandalism is greatly increased. True, due to the reduction light-transmitting abilities - transparency is not the same.
  • Self-cleaning glass is equipped with a special outer coating that prevents dust and drip marks. This option is well suited for blind windows installed above the first floor, which are difficult to clean from the outside without the use of special equipment.

Hardware "filling" of plastic windows

Fittings are called metal parts that fasten and ensure the mobility of the connections of the elements of the window system. Therefore, the duration of operation of plastic windows largely depends on the quality of this equipment.

Well-known European fittings manufacturers produce both high-quality expensive products and economy class parts. Naturally, the cost of windows with one or another set of fittings can vary significantly. And the number of fittings used in the design may vary, which also affects the cost of the finished product.

The list of the main details that ensure the comfort of using window systems includes:

  • Tilt and turn system that allows you to open the window in two positions - hinged and fanlight-folding. Some models of windows can only be opened wide open - this point must be specified when ordering.
  • A locking mechanism and a handle that allows you to open and close the sash, fix it in the tilted position, and also close it in the “winter” mode, that is, pull the sash as tightly as possible to the frame, increasing the tightness of the window.
  • Locks, stoppers that prevent unauthorized opening, which is especially important if small children live in the house.
  • Fastening or bracket systems, e.g. for installing mosquito nets or blinds.
  • For the set of accessories used, metal skids and special rollers are included.

Experts recommend choosing windows with fittings manufactured by European companies Roto, Maco, Siegenia-Aubi, G-U and Winkhaus. These manufacturers provide parts that maximize system durability and ease of use.

Seals for plastic windows

For the production of plastic window structures, several types of seals that differ in material of manufacture. To find out which one is better, it is worth briefly considering each of them.

  • Most often as a sealant in plastic structures, and, almost all manufacturers use TPE or TPE - an elastic thermoplastic or thermoplastic elastomer. Such material does not have outstanding characteristics, but it is common due to the fact that it is convenient for automatically assembling the profile into a window structure.

This type of seal is easily connected in the corners of the frame, as it has a small radius of curvature. It is easy to give its cross section any, even complex shape. The material is very affordable. In general, TEP has all the qualities that are ideal for a regional system manufacturer, but not for a consumer.

However, a significant drawback of this material can be called instability to low and high temperatures, so it becomes soft when heated in hot weather and quite fragile during winter frosts. In addition, instability thermoplastic elastomer to ultraviolet radiation leads over time to its deformation. The operating temperature range declared by the TEC manufacturers varies from -45 to +80 degrees. In practice, however, its strength "fails" already at -20 ° With, and it softens at absolutely non-critical +35 ° С.

  • EPDM or ethylene propylene rubber is the second seal option, which has suitable characteristics for low and high temperature service. The material retains its original qualities in cold temperatures down to -60 ° With, and the upper limit is + 120 ° С. EPDM is inert to UV exposure and precipitation. If a sealant of this type is installed in the window structure, then its cost will be higher compared to TEP.
  • Silicone sealant is another material option used by some manufacturers. But it costs more than the first mentioned, so it is not so popular. But it is distinguished by excellent durability, and its operating temperature range is from - 80 to + 200 ° С. The silicone seal has good elasticity, therefore it can withstand long and frequent mechanical impacts in the form of the most tight pressing of the sash to the frame. Calmly tolerates the material and natural aggressive influences, including ultraviolet radiation and atmospheric moisture. However, the price of this sealant is about twice as high as that of EPDM.
  • The rubber seal is ordinary rubber, so it has all its positive and negative qualities. Much, of course, depends on the manufacturer, who can save on rubber by adding other fillers to the mixture. Violation of production technology will significantly reduce the durability of sealing profiles. Low-quality rubber can dry out in the sun and crack, as a result of which the tightness of the joints of the glass block with the frame will be lost, and visually imperceptible gaps may appear between the frame and the sash, through which cold air will break into the premises.

Due to the fact that the cost of a sealant is approximately only 0.5% of the total cost of a window system, then, if possible, it makes sense to choose the highest quality and most durable option. In this case, it's silicone. It is better to overpay a little right away than to replace the sealing elements a year or two after the start of operation of the windows.

Well-known manufacturers of profiles for plastic windows

If as a result you plan to get a high-quality durable product, you should not contact the first available office that positions itself as an experienced manufacturer. The best option would be to order windows in a company with extensive experience. If friends or relatives already have plastic windows and serve without breakdowns and repairs for a long time, you should ask them where they purchased them, as well as the profile of which company was used for them.

The table below shows a few well-known companies that supply their products worldwide.

The manufacturer supplies several models of profiles to the Russian market with the following parameters:

The "pros" and "cons" of VEKA products can be summarized as follows:

  • Thanks to strict control, products "consist" of continuous advantages, which include reliability and durability of operation, a high level of heat and sound insulation, tightness, wide enough range of models, the use of high-quality seal, resistant to high and low temperatures.
  • Among the shortcomings, only the high cost of the profile can be distinguished. All other noted “minuses” are caused solely by the lack of conscientiousness of local firms involved in the assembly of window and door structures.

REHAU profiles

In the Russian Federation, the company presents six profile options with the following characteristics:

Profile model nameProfile width, mmNumber of cameras, pcs.Heat transfer resistance coefficient, m²°C/W
"Standard"60 3 0.64
SIB DESIGN70 4 0.72
DELIGHT DESIGN70 5 0.8
BRILLANT DESIGN70 5 0.91
GENEO86 6 1.5
"INTELIO"86 6 0.95

Advantages and disadvantages of products from the REHAU profile:

  • The positive qualities of the products of this company, based on consumer reviews, include high structural strength, excellent heat and sound insulation, a fairly large range of models, resistance to ultraviolet radiation and low winter temperatures. In addition, the profile models "DELIGHT-DESIGN" and "BRILLANT-DESIGN" have vandal-proof qualities.
  • The disadvantages of REHAU windows include the limitation on the length of the profiles, that is, it is difficult to choose options for a window opening of non-standard sizes. The high cost of products makes them inaccessible to families with an average income.

There is a large number of fakes on the market, or products made from the REHAU profile, but in violation of established technologies. So the too low price of systems under such a brand should even alert the vigilant buyer.

Profiles and window structures "KBE"

Company "KBE" produces many profiles similar in characteristics, this table shows the most popular of them:

Profile model nameProfile width, mmNumber of cameras, pcs.Heat transfer resistance coefficient, m²°C/W

"Energy"70 3 0.81
"Master"70 4 0.8
"Premium"76 6 1
KBE 8888 6 1.03

The advantages and disadvantages of the products of this manufacturer include the following:

  • Judging by consumer reviews, windows and doors made from KBE profiles occupy one of the leading positions, as they have high strength, long service life without repair and adjustment, as well as aesthetic external data. It should be noted that the products are environmentally friendly, as the manufacturer does not use lead in their manufacture. The manufacturer's warranty for the profile is 40 years.
  • The disadvantages of the products of this company is called quite high the cost of products. There have been cases of plastic discolouration towards yellowing under the influence of ultraviolet rays.

Profiles and windows "Proplex"

Trying to keep up with the leading brands and domestic manufacturers. Proplex products are distinguished by an affordable price, and the range is represented by the following profile models:

Profile model nameProfile width, mmNumber of cameras, pcs.Heat transfer resistance coefficient, m²°C/W

"Premium"70 5 0.76
"Comfort"70 4 0.79
"Comfort Plus"70 5 0.78
Lux127 5 0.71

"Pros" and "cons" of window structures "Proplex":

  • The advantages of the profile of this company can be considered high quality products:

Plastic is resistant to very low temperatures, does not turn yellow and does not crack; the profile has an ideal white color;

Long service life;

The structures have good tightness, therefore they perfectly protect the house from the cold and external noise.

  • Disadvantages are somewhat outdated profile design, lack of international quality certification, fittings that cause problems.

Montblanc products

This table shows the characteristics of the profiles manufactured by Montblanc:

Positive and negative sides of windows "Montblanc":

  • The advantages of the products of this manufacturer can be considered the relative flexibility of the profile, which allows them to be used in the manufacture of frames for installation in arched openings. Affordable cost, interesting product design and durability are also important factors that play in favor of these window structures. Profiles are adapted to Russian conditions - they are resistant to both low and high temperatures. Warranty period of operation is 50 years.
  • Of the "minuses" can be called the following shortcomings - the unreliability of fittings, over time, the profile plastic begins to turn yellow, the unpleasant smell of chemicals from the sealant, which lingers for a long time, the lack of a quality certificate.

What plastic windows are the best? Advantages, disadvantages, reviews of popular PVC profiles

We are aware that by rating windows, we are invading the territory of professionals who are very skeptical about the ratings of this product. But "Expert Price" wouldn't be himself if he didn't try to rank everyone.

What profile of plastic windows is better?

To understand the subtle nuances of the assessment, we had to study a considerable amount of informational texts, a huge number of all kinds of amateur and professional reviews, and conduct a small amount of our own research.

The product, the description of which has been broken so many copies, is in fact the most ordinary plastic stick, but, however, with a complex surface and internal structure. To give strength inside the profile there is a metal insert made of galvanized steel, and internal plastic partitions create air chambers that provide heat retention. Everything. What is there to argue about? Steel, it will remain steel, no matter what they do with it, and the plastic used by all companies is the same - polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It follows that the window profile of any production must be of the same quality. Is it so? And how to choose the best of the same by definition?

Criteria for choosing a profile

Country of origin of the profile

Any company that recycles a window profile indicates its origin. At the same time, it is very often possible to meet the word "German" in the descriptive part. We recommend clarifying what is meant by this word, because. sellers like to justify the high price of a finished window with it. The lion's share of such a profile is produced in Russia using German technology. In this case, relatively cheap energy resources and labor are used, therefore, the cost of the product should also differ from the profile produced in Germany.

Number of thermal insulation chambers

Certainly the most important criterion. It is believed that the more chambers, the better the thermal insulation. However, do not forget that an excessively large number of chambers can lead to the fact that the coefficient of thermal conductivity may, on the contrary, increase, due to the plastic of the partitions, which will act as a cooling radiator. Therefore, be sure to pay attention to the following criterion.

Profile width

When choosing a profile for a living room, it is better not to save on this parameter. Everything is simple here, the wider, the warmer. It should only be noted that small-chamber wide profiles can be easily deformed, because. have few stiffeners.

Number of double-glazed window chambers

Reinforcing steel insert

It happens with an open or solid circuit. If there are no restrictions on strength, then we advise you to choose an open one, it is warmer.

The average price in the Russian Federation of a window with a size of 1470x1420 from a profile with a thickness of 71 mm: 10600 rubles

The Belgian concern The Deceuninck Group (Dekenink Group) produces its own profile in the Moscow region. The production is not certified, which is strange, because all the European plants of the company have ISO certificates. It is not known whether this is due to unstable quality, or whether the management simply “did not get their hands on it” yet. The profile "collected" the usual ratio of both positive and negative reviews. Product line:

  • Forward - 3 chambers, width 60 mm
  • Bautek - 3 chambers, width 71 mm
  • Favorite - 5 chambers, width 71 mm
  • Favorit Space — 6 chambers, width 76 mm

SOK profile
Syzran

Photo: www.okna-modern.ru

The average price in the Russian Federation of a window with a size of 1470x1420 from a profile 72 mm thick: 11,900 rubles

Included in the list as a permanent participant in Internet ratings. From the information gleaned from the website of the SOK company (Samara Window Constructions), you can easily find out that the company does not have its own production of window profiles. The “branded” profile is manufactured at the Profine factory (see KBE). And this means that the profile is produced in accordance with international requirements and is ISO certified, which is not bad. But the question immediately arises about the high cost of windows from this profile, the price of which is much higher than KBE windows. The choice of configurations is very small, only two types:

  • Brand profile SOK-470 - 4 chambers, width 62 mm
  • Brand profile SOK-570 - 5 chambers, width 72 mm

pros:

  • quality
  • the uniqueness of the location of the cameras

Minuses:

  • overpriced finished products
  • small selection

Typical reviews about SOK windows:
“SOK is a normal profile, no better and no worse than many”
“I liked the profile, simple and strong”

What plastic windows are still better to put?

And in the end, the main thing is that a careless window manufacturer or a handless installer can turn the best profile into disgusting trash. Therefore, before ordering windows, consult with neighbors, friends or just acquaintances who have already contacted the company you have chosen. Remember that a profile is just a piece of plastic, which, although it is an important component of a window unit, nevertheless, its choice must be justified in combination with factors such as reliable fittings, good double-glazed windows and conscientious craftsmen.

Services for the production and installation of such windows have been on the construction market for quite a long time. During this period, the range of materials and variations of PVC window products has greatly expanded. As a result, buyers face a rather difficult question: which design is better to choose for installation?

When choosing, it is important to take into account not only the configuration, but the materials from which this or that part of the window is assembled. An incorrectly selected frame or double-glazed window can adversely affect not only the appearance of the final product, but also create an unfavorable microclimate in the room in which the window will be installed.

What parts does a modern plastic window consist of

Many of us are accustomed to the components of the window to refer only to the supporting frame and window sashes, which can be both deaf and opening. However, the classification of the components that make up modern plastic windows is very different and includes the following elements:

  1. Plastic profile.

The fundamental part of the entire window is the profile, which can be made of different types of plastics. It is used to assemble window frames, imposts (stands between sashes) and sashes that make up the main, basic parts of any PVC window.

  1. Reinforcement.

A properly made plastic profile, in itself, has good strength, but to strengthen it, it is almost always reinforced by building metal structures inside.

  1. Stand profile.

After installing the window, it is not visible, but it plays an important role, as it is installed under the frame and holds the entire structure.

  1. Double glazing.

This element is called the part of the window that is inserted directly into its sashes. The double-glazed window consists of a metal profile that serves as a frame, on which glass is glued with a sealant, the quantity and quality of which directly affects such parameters as noise and heat insulation of the room.

  1. Bead.

A glazing bead is a small plastic strip that securely fixes the double-glazed windows inside the sashes. The material of its manufacture is identical to that used in the production of frame profiles.

  1. Rubber seal.

It is installed along the perimeter of the opened doors. It is necessary in order to provide reliable insulation and reduce the risk of drafts.

  1. Accessories.

Fittings include all small window parts, such as handles, locks, as well as hinges and other types of fasteners.

  1. Sandwich panel.

Installed in a window instead of glass if the sash should be light-tight.

  1. Slopes.

Slopes are called the side and upper part of the interior decoration of the window.

  1. Window sill and threshold.

The threshold and window sill are made of certain types of materials, as they must have special strength in order to withstand various types of loads for a long time.

  1. Low tide.

The lower part of the window must be protected not only from the inside, but also from the outside, so iron window sills are often installed on the street side. They protect the base profile from external influences such as rain or strong winds.

Also, at the request of the client, a mosquito net can be installed on the window. Due to the diversity of the range on the market, you can find windows with almost any combination of materials, which means it makes sense to consider each component separately.

Ordering a plastic window

You can buy a plastic window in specialized companies that provide a full range of services: from the supply of window structures to their installation in the premises. In addition, windows can be purchased at construction hypermarkets and directly from the manufacturer. The price of windows purchased from the manufacturer will be significantly lower than in other options.

However, the installation service is not offered by everyone from whom you can buy a window. Some customers who want to install plastic windows in the room believe that there are no difficulties in assembling the structure. In reality, installation does not involve only drilling holes in the wall, screwing screws and working with mounting foam. Before installing a plastic window, it is important to properly dismantle the old window structure. And during the installation itself, nuances and details appear that only professional installers know.

Those who do not understand the intricacies of window installation can be advised to order a service for their installation along with windows. Of course, you will have to pay extra for it, but professionals in their field will install a window without flaws.

When ordering a window with installation in a specialized company, the client will need to choose from the proposed design configuration options those that suit him the most. Let's analyze these parameters in more detail.

Who is the manufacturer of the profile?

The Russian production of plastic windows has long been "put on its feet." However, the quality of Russian plastic often leaves much to be desired. The technology by which a double-glazed window is produced is borrowed from a number of world foreign leaders in this field of production. Although the production technology from Russian manufacturers is copied, however, the workmanship is by no means at the highest level. Often, manufacturers want to save money on the profile of the Russian assembly, as a result of which the products come out of not very high quality.

Russian-made profiles have an undeniable advantage - this is their cost. Such windows are several times cheaper than foreign-made window structures. If you want your house to have high-quality windows, then it is worth, despite the cost, to pay attention to manufacturers that have proven themselves on the good side. One of these is the German Rehau. Previously installed window profiles from this manufacturer have been in perfect condition for more than 10 years, without losing their appearance and quality.

The most famous, top profile manufacturers and the average price for a window with dimensions of 1470 mm × 1420 mm:

  • Rehau - 9500 rubles;
  • Veka - 9500 rubles;
  • Proplex - 8800 rubles;
  • Salamander - 26,000 rubles;
  • Montblanc - 7800 rubles.

What type of plastic is used in the production

Profiles of the worst quality are made of matte plastic. This type of plastic literally “absorbs” dirt due to the fact that the matte surface, unlike the glossy one, is rough. Windows installed with matte plastic elements become dirty over time and acquire a grayish tint that cannot be scrubbed off with detergents. Therefore, if you are offered the installation of windows with a matte plastic surface, it is better to refuse.

Glossy plastic costs a little more than matte plastic. But it is worth taking a closer look at inexpensive types of glossy plastic: this option is still better than installing a matte one. Glossy plastic is not so susceptible to dirt, and if they do happen, they are easily rubbed off the plastic surface. In addition, the appearance of glossy plastic is more attractive.

Double glazing - single or double glazing?

If your house is located in an area where there is an unfavorable atmosphere in terms of noise or if the window overlooks the highway, you should order a double-glazed window. It costs a little more than a single-chamber, however, it is better in terms of heat loss and sound insulation.

Single-chamber double-glazed window

Double glazing

Some customers of window installation companies think that a double-glazed window is a double-glazed window in which there are 2 glasses, which is not at all the case. Double glazing has 3 panes with two air gaps. A double-glazed window, where there are only 2 glasses, has one air chamber.

For the best sound insulation performance, manufacturers make different distances between the air chambers. The most ideal option is one in which the thickness of the inner glass is slightly larger than the middle and outer glass. This greatly reduces the noise level.

If a two-chamber double-glazed window has such advantages over a single-chamber one, then why are 4-chamber and 5-chamber ones not put into mass production? They are also made, but extremely rarely. It will not be difficult for manufacturers to make a ten-chamber double-glazed window, but it simply does not make sense to install such a design for a number of reasons:

  1. Large structure weight. Even double-glazed windows weigh about 70 kg and more. Depending on the thickness of the glasses installed in them, the weight may increase or decrease. The more cameras - the more massive the double-glazed window, and the more difficulties are created during its installation.
  2. None of the currently existing sets of fittings and profiles can withstand a large mass of the structure. Of course, there is the option of manufacturing sashes and frames from alloy steels, but at the same time, the cost of the window will increase greatly.
  3. A number of companies are engaged in the manufacture of double-glazed windows with energy-saving glass. When using them, excellent heat saving indicators are achieved, which means that it makes no sense to install multi-chamber double-glazed windows from the point of view of preserving heat in the room.

Reinforcing elements

Each plastic window is completed with a reinforcing belt consisting of a metal profile. Its purpose is to maintain the framed window itself in the face of seasonal temperature changes. Window manufacturers also sometimes save on this, completely ignoring the realities of the climate. Indeed, in a number of Russian regions, the temperature ranges from -30 degrees in winter to 40 degrees in summer.

Such conditions for plastic windows are quite extreme. That is why the steel insert inside all window elements should not be thin, its maximum thickness should be no less than 1.5 mm. Already with such an insert thickness, the window will not be subject to significant deformations during operation, which will provide it with a long service life and the almost complete absence of drafts in the room.

Heat reflective glass

The design of the double-glazed unit usually includes standard float glass with increased transparency. But if the energy efficiency of the room is important to you, it is better to order special energy-saving glass. Its other name is IR glass. It is standard, it is distinguished by a special type of coating, which is designed specifically to reflect infrared waves or heat.

When installing such windows, in winter the heat will not go out of the room, and in the summer the IR coating of the glass will greatly alleviate the heat from the sun's rays. You will have to pay extra for special glass, but thanks to it, the room will be much more comfortable.

Ventilation

One of the main problems that the owners of plastic windows face is ventilation. In old, wooden windows, it was provided with the help of cracks from a loose fit of the window sashes. A plastic window is manufactured according to standards that provide hermetic isolation from the external environment outside the premises. Because of this, a significant drawback of such a window manifests itself - in the room the air becomes stale and stuffy, and the glasses themselves "sweat".

Provide ventilation in the room allow different options for opening the window:

  1. Swivel. With this option, the window opens to its full width. This allows large masses of air to enter the room, providing ventilation. The window sashes open inwards, to the left or to the right, depending on the customer's wishes.

  1. Folding. In this version, the window sash opens vertically, creating an angle of approximately 45 degrees at maximum opening.

  1. slotted. This is a kind of "winter" ventilation. The window is slightly opened for a very short distance, so the air masses enter the room in a small amount, without creating discomfort for people when airing in the cold season.

There is an option to combine types of opening, but it will cost more. Initially, standard designs of window structures provide for all opening methods, but if the client wants to save money and does not pay for any of them, then these types of opening remain blocked. You won't be able to use them if you don't know how to unlock them.

accessories

By right, fittings can be called an important component of the window design. It holds the sash in position and provides a snug fit and window safety features.

Poor-quality fittings in the window structure promise problems within a few months after its installation. Cheap fittings may simply not be able to cope with the weight of a heavy window sash after installation. The sash will eventually "fall over" to one side, and the adjustment of its position will also be violated.

Poor fittings poorly presses the sash to the frame. Due to this, gaps and drafts may appear in the room. The only advantage of using low-quality fittings is the appearance of natural ventilation, but this is unlikely to please anyone in the winter season.

What should not be saved when ordering a plastic window?

It is unlikely that the client will try to save money by ordering a plastic window without a window sill. However, some future window owners believe that the presence of low tides, high-quality slopes and mosquito nets is not necessary. As practice shows, such savings often result in unforeseen expenses in the future.

What is desirable to purchase with a plastic window:

  1. Drainage Without it, moisture from the rain will be poured into the joint gap between the wall and the window, damaging the mounting foam, which absorbs moisture like a sponge.

  1. Mosquito net. In winter, it is not needed, but in summer, if you want to open the window wide open, an annoying midge will fly into a room that is not protected by a net.

  1. Quality slopes. Plastic window structures are mounted taking into account the maximum extension to the outside. Due to the shift in the dew point, the window and slopes can fog up. Moisture will cause mold. Artisanally made slopes can become moldy already in the first winter, and the window will lose its aesthetic qualities.

  1. Sealant. A standard rubber seal tends to freeze and tan at low temperatures outside the window. Some firms have a service for installing a transparent or white sealant made on the basis of an elastomer. It costs more than usual, but it has a longer service life and is less dependent on temperature fluctuations. In winter, it is recommended to lubricate any seal with silicone oil or a special compound as recommended by the manufacturer.
