As you know, laminate is a floor covering. But what kind of ideas do designers come up with to create a unique interior space. One of these original solutions was the use of laminate for wall decoration.

This innovation is gaining more and more popularity, which is why many home craftsmen began to think about how to fix the laminate on the wall.

This article will tell you how to install laminate flooring on the walls.

Why laminate walls

It's no secret that PVC and MDF panels are most often used for simple and quick wall decoration.

If we consider the laminate from this point of view, then it has some advantages over them:

  1. Its strength is much higher. PVC panels can break through on impact, and laminate flooring can withstand high forces and loads.
  2. Its hygroscopicity is much less than that of MDF panels and it is not difficult to wash the laminate.
  3. Ease of care.

Against the background of these advantages, there is only one drawback - the cost, which is almost 2 times higher than that of the panels.

Problems when laying laminate on the walls

Before you begin to mount the laminate on the wall, you should familiarize yourself with some of the nuances of this process.

In order to avoid problems that sometimes arise during installation, you need to know what they can be:

  1. Laminate is quite heavy. That is why the surface on which it will be attached, and the fasteners must be durable.
  2. Despite the fact that the hygroscopicity of the laminate is much lower compared to the panels, it has the ability to swell with changes in humidity in the premises.
  3. The lower part of the protruding groove is used to fasten the panels to each other, which ensures quick and easy connection. With laminate, the situation is somewhat more complicated. As a rule, laminated boards are equipped with click locks.

On the one hand, such fastening provides good rigidity of the connection, but on the other? the head of a nail or self-tapping screw that falls on such a lock will prevent tight closing, which will lead to gaps.

Based on the above, we draw the following conclusions:

  1. Laminate should only be installed on a flat and solid surface. Sheets of drywall, planted on plaster, can fall off along with the laminate boards attached to them, under their weight.
  2. Do not allow rigid fixation of laminate panels. In the case of adhesive seams, they must be elastic.
  3. When fastening the boards, you should pay attention to the fact that the fasteners do not fall on their locks.

Helpful advice! In rooms with high humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens, it is not recommended to use laminate as a wall finish.

This finish is only suitable for rooms with a constant and moderate level of humidity (bedrooms, living rooms, hallways).

Laminate installation

You can fix laminate boards on the walls with your own hands in different ways. The technology of this process depends on the characteristics of the surface on which they are installed.

Mounting on a flat, solid surface

The easiest way- fixing the laminate on a plastered surface or sheathed with sheets of drywall. Such a surface is quite even, so the laminate is attached to it with liquid nails. This adhesive bond, even after hardening, has good elasticity and is also quite strong.

The following instructions will help you in your work:

  • At the bottom, we set an emphasis for the first row of laminated boards to avoid them slipping under the weight of their own weight.
  • We apply glue in a zigzag pattern on the first board, press it tightly against the wall surface and immediately check the horizontal level with a level.

  • Apply glue to the next board. With this fastening, you should not knock the boards through the boss. It is recommended to insert them into the lock with a slight kink, then snap and press. At the same time, the bottom board should be held.
  • We lay the boards so that in adjacent rows the transverse joints do not coincide.

Helpful advice! If you need to cover a small area with a laminate, then you can assemble a shield from it on the floor and stick it on the wall in this form.

Mounting on an uneven wall

To attach the laminate to the wall, which has irregularities, a crate is used.

  1. You can mount the frame of the crate from wooden slats with a section of 40x40 mm or from metal profiles. The step of the guides should be no more than 60 mm.
  2. We lay the first board so that it rests on the rail (profile). This will ensure the stability of the entire structure, and during installation it will not move down.
  3. Subsequent installation is carried out in the same way as in the case of a flat surface. Do not forget to ligate the transverse joints. In work, a plinth for a laminate can also come in handy.

Mounting on clamps

Laminate can be mounted on walls not only with adhesives. There is a very simple and proven way - fastening with clamps.

These are galvanized brackets, specially designed for fastening lining and laminate to walls or ceilings.

For such fastening, two types of clamps are used:

  1. Serrated staples. They are driven into the board and fixed with screws on the crate or wall;
  2. Flat lug staples. They are used to press the protruding part of the click-lock.

Self-tapping screws are used to fasten the kleimers to the wall or board.

Conclusion

Laminate is a reliable and durable finishing material that gives any interior a beautiful and modern look. No wonder it began to be used for finishing many surfaces.

We have considered all the subtleties of laying laminate on walls, fully covering the specifics of such work. These recommendations will help you avoid the main problems encountered during installation and carry it out with your own hands without much difficulty.

Fastening of various shelves to the wall is carried out with the help of corners and brackets. Let us consider in detail what fasteners are for various shelves on the wall and how to make fasteners for a shelf to walls of various types.

Before attaching the shelves to the wall, it should be noted that the shelves in the end part drill a hole 5 mm below its surface.

Pay attention to the fact that the holes in the back and the holes in the wall intended for the dowels must match perfectly.

As a template in this plan, a rail of the desired length is used. It is applied to the end back of the shelf and a hole of the required diameter is drilled. Next, you need to attach it to the wall.

After that, start drilling. It must be done as accurately as possible.

This process is carried out in two stages:

  • holes are made with a small diameter drill;
  • after that, a hole is drilled with a drill of the desired diameter.

To mount any shelf on the wall, you will need materials and tools such as:

  • threaded rod,
  • mounting set,
  • wood glue,
  • electric drill,
  • template rail,
  • threaded coupling.

We fix the shelves (video)

In order to properly attach the shelf to the wall, you can use the following guidelines:

  • both the bracket and the corners for the shelf must be securely fastened;
  • each bracket for a removable system must be wide in order to firmly hold the shelf;
  • all screws and other fasteners for various shelves to the wall must be correctly selected upon purchase;
  • each bracket purchased must match the type of racks and shelves;
  • fasteners for various shelves to the wall must correspond to the depth, width and height of the shelves themselves, as well as the weight of what will stand on them;
  • Before ordering a mount for each shelf on the wall, you need to double check all measurements.

Fixed bracket and shelf fixing

The bracket is presented in a wide variety of its types. First of all, you need to understand how many of them you need. It then determines how each bracket will be positioned on the bottom surface of the shelf. Holes are drilled and any fixing devices are inserted into them. After that, you need to fasten the shelf with self-tapping screws.

Fixing a shelf to a concrete wall

Concrete and brick walls can withstand enormous loads due to their strength. Because of this, a small problem arises - it is very difficult to screw screws into it.

In order to attach a shelf to a concrete wall, you will need tools such as:

  • pencil,
  • perforator,
  • screwdriver,
  • a hammer,
  • wooden dowel.

Fastening the shelf to a concrete wall is carried out in this way:

  • mark the place where the bracket will be fixed;
  • mark with a building level where there will still be mounts for shelves on a concrete wall;
  • holes are drilled;
  • after that, you need to install the bracket;
  • attach a shelf and hold against the holes;
  • screw in the screws.

Shelf attachment to plasterboard wall

Today, very often in houses or apartments there are piers or plasterboard walls. With the help of this simple material, a home can be transformed beyond recognition. Accordingly, it is possible to mount the shelf to the plasterboard wall.

Before attaching shelves to corners or brackets, attention should be paid to:

  • Shelf weight. Heavy shelves are hung immediately on the frame, and light ones - on drywall.
  • Availability of communications. Be sure to check if there are water pipes or electrical wires in the intended place. If there are communications, it is better to attach the shelf in another place.
  • Attachment height. Based on the growth of all family members, you need to determine how, in this case, to properly fix any shelves to the wall.
  • The location of the frame for drywall. It can be made from both a metal profile and wood, and the slats can be at different heights.

Shelf fastening to a plasterboard wall is carried out in the same way as to a concrete one.

Shelf mounts on wooden wall

The shelf is attached to a wooden wall quite simply. The most difficult thing is to correctly measure the holes where the corners will be attached. Next, the shelf must be brought with fasteners to the selected points and screwed to the tree with self-tapping screws.

Remember that the fastening of any shelf must be carried out in strict accordance with the horizontal level.

Shelf mounts for tiled wall

In the bathroom, it is sometimes very difficult to hang a shelf on the wall due to the fact that it is tiled. Such a tile, if you start drilling it, quickly begins to crumble. Therefore, many people are wondering: "How to fasten a shelf to a tiled wall?".

In order to attach the shelf to the tiled wall, you need a set of necessary tools. The only thing that needs to be bought additionally is drills with hard facings. During drilling, all glaze is removed from the tile and the core of the tile is drilled at low speed.

In no case should you press too hard on the drill.

After that, a drill of a smaller diameter is taken and the wall breaks through to the desired size. Next, the bracket is installed. After that, you can mount the shelf on the tiled wall.

Hidden fastening of shelves to the wall (video)

When attaching shelves to the wall, both brackets and corners can be used as fasteners. The fastening of various shelves to the wall can be done both with your own hands and to order. Properly fixed shelves will look great in the interior of the room, and serve for a long time.

Shelves in the interior of a modern room perform two main functions: they become a convenient stand for books, useful items or nice trinkets, and they also help emphasize the original style. Not only the aesthetic component is important, but also the technical side, that is, the quality of the products and the way they are fixed. Let's try to figure out when it is necessary to use the traditional fastening of shelves on the wall, and when - secret or unusual.

A modern room without shelves seems unfinished: often they are the touch that puts an end to the interior design. If you look into the catalog of furniture sets, you will notice that in addition to cabinets, beds and chests of drawers, these miniature products are always present there. They come in various shapes, colors and sizes, but always correspond to the general style direction.

Two in one: bright decor and comfortable interior items

Both visual appeal and functional qualities largely depend on strong and reliable fasteners for shelves on the wall, so this article will be more devoted to metal corners, easy-to-mount brackets, tricky invisible hooks and hairpins.

Inconspicuous fasteners do not detract from the design

When buying ready-made furniture sets, fittings and material for fixing are usually supplied as a set, but often there is a desire to make an original decor with your own hands, and then it is important to choose the right method of fastening.

It would seem that there is nothing easier than hammering a couple of nails into the wall and hanging a shelf with pre-attached "ears" on them. But not everything is so simple. In addition to the most important task - to find the most suitable place - it is necessary to answer a number of questions: what nails, where exactly you need to attach the "ears", will such fasteners withstand the weight of the structure?

Beautiful metal corners "for forging"

Consider the simplest option with corners. Suppose we have an ordinary wooden shelf - a simple horizontal product without decorative elements. We select the tool and material, guided by the following list:

  • metal corner (2 or 3 pieces, depending on the length);
  • ruler, pencil, construction tape measure;
  • laser level;
  • drill and drills;
  • screws or dowels.

If the base is wooden, then ordinary nails can be used instead of self-tapping screws.

One of the options for fixing the corner

Instruction:

  1. We choose the most suitable place. Try to choose a site that is within reach - that is, not too high (a mistake of many amateur designers). Do not clutter up a surface that has already been decorated (for example, with paintings or photographs), it is better to choose a free space. We apply the product and see if it fits well into the interior. If everything suits, we proceed to the next stage.
  2. We carefully consider the bottom of the board and try to choose places for fittings. A set of ready-made metal mounts for shelves to the wall can be bought at a building materials store. We attach them to the lower part of the structure: we drill small holes with a small drill and fix the metal elements with self-tapping screws.
  3. We make markup. Again we put the shelf to the chosen place, in the holes on the corners we make marks with a pencil, preferably in each hole.
  4. We drill holes in the base with a drill, trying to hit the marks exactly. For concrete slabs, it is better to use dowels.
  5. We put the shelf in place so that the holes on the corners and in the wall match. We twist the screws, trying to ensure that they enter evenly and smoothly. The hanging process is complete.
  6. We admire the result, arrange toys, vases, books.

Decorative fasteners are an additional decoration

Building Tricks: Hidden Fasteners

All kinds of metal corners for shelves on the wall, convenient brackets, building profile are appropriate only if they are correctly selected and fully meet the stylistic features of the room. But sometimes the technical details do not fit with the environment and you have to go for the trick - use one of the secret fastening methods.

Decorative composition without unnecessary details

There are several generally accepted options, with the help of which invisible elements provide a tight fit and rigid fixation. Consider the three most popular:

  • hidden loops;
  • wooden block;
  • metal rods.

The first way is the most popular. Hinged flat loops are attached to the back of the shelf, then the structure is suspended on pre-screwed self-tapping screws. The main thing is to accurately measure the distance between the loops, otherwise the extra holes will “give out” the technical trick and ruin the idea. To align the horizontal, we recommend using a building level.

The second way is to string the base of the product on strong metal pins implanted in a concrete slab or brickwork. The role of the pins can be played by pieces of reinforcement or steel threaded studs of the required diameter provided for this. The heavier the product (together with potential filling), the more studs will have to be screwed into the wall. For guaranteed stability, the cross-section of fasteners for wooden shelves should not be less than 12 mm, the length depends on the conditions.

The third option is the installation of a bar with a square or rectangular section, which subsequently acts as a base. Masking will take place if the thickness of the bar and the thickness of the shelf hung on it match perfectly. The connecting parts between the two surfaces are dowels - wooden pins. To enhance strength, before connecting the parts, they are lubricated with glue.

Wall set of three different designs

If your interior design did not include the use of additional visible elements, hidden fittings will help out.

Original ways of hanging shelves

Traditional methods are suitable for placing simple, uncomplicated structures in the interior in the form of a single horizontal board or a product resembling a glass box. However, the imagination of modern designers is so rich that it allows you to create amazing structures in the form of labyrinths, trees, flowers, snakes. Fasteners can be as unusual as shelving, although in some cases all the same secret hinges or decorative corners are appropriate.

Consider several options for how you can attach shelves to the wall, if an unusual project is chosen for implementation.

Non-standard interior solutions

Using a familiar object - a wooden board 17-20 mm thick - you can create a design that is unique in design. Geometric figures of different colors scattered on the wall, the silhouette of a bat with spread wings, an angular tree branch, a huge spiral - stands for interior accessories can take on the most incredible incarnations.

An original composition from a multi-level shelf throughout the wall in a teenager's room

A very simple but interesting solution is to create a family tree. Shelves-branches on both sides are attached to a vertically located panel - the trunk. The design is so simple that it can be built on your own in one evening. To match the theme, individual boards are painted in natural colors. The fixing material remains invisible in both solutions.

Light and elegant composition of elements of contrasting colors can decorate the kitchen, living room or bedroom. Pay attention to fasteners: concise light corners do not spoil the overall picture, as they successfully merge with the tone of the wallpaper. The weight of the product is small, so hidden pins could also be used for installation.

Contrasting composition

If you use decorative wooden coasters, you get a more heavy picture.

Leather strap option

Sometimes the simplest solutions are the most surprising, and a couple of improvised details can be a great interior decoration. A leather belt acts as a fastener for a wooden shelf (an ordinary polished board). The material of manufacture is not necessarily genuine leather, it can be an artificial analogue or even a wide textile tape. The main quality of suspensions is durability.

Cozy retro composition with belts

It is obvious that a horizontal board on hangers, not additionally fixed, will not be able to withstand a stack of heavy books and is not a reliable support for crystal souvenirs. Its purpose is to serve as a decorative wall element, and you can place small souvenirs, accessories, and light objects on it.

Fasteners for belts are a pair of long screws with plastic dowels, which will be at some distance above the original decor. The procedure looks like this:

  • we paint the boards in the desired color, if it is necessary to preserve the texture, we varnish it;
  • we prepare two old identical belts (or new ones bought in a store);
  • fold the ends of each belt, trim, drill small holes at a distance of 2-2.5 cm from the edge;
  • using a drill and a hammer at a distance of 60-70 cm, we fix the dowels;
  • we fasten the ends to the dowels so that the belts in the form of loops hang down;
  • insert the board into the prepared loops, align it horizontally.

It turned out a neat beautiful decorative stand. You can complicate the composition by building one more of the same tier below or above.

Caution: fragile glass

Glass in the interior plays a special role. On the one hand, it is a reliable material that can withstand a lot of weight, on the other hand, it is a fragile material that is easy to break with one awkward movement. For the shelves, specially tempered, extra strong glass is used, which is difficult to break even with a hammer. We do not recommend forming parts of the required dimensions on our own; it is better to order cutting in a glass processing service.

Decorative metal brackets for glass shelves

Here's what is surprising: transparent planes create the illusion of a free, uncluttered space, which is why glass decor is often used in rooms with a limited area. To fix glass panels, special brackets made of metal and plastic are used with soft elastic gaskets on the inside.

Long metal spokes act as fasteners

To make the installation, we first fix the brackets: we fix the dowels, insert the screws that come with the bracket into them, not forgetting to put on the washer. We fasten the brackets, check whether they are evenly located in relation to each other. Insert a shelf. Sometimes, instead of wall holders, even more curious elements are used - thin metal cables or long pins resembling knitting needles.

Metal cables allow you to create a weightless, floating structure

Handy materials are being used

In interior design, original solutions, creative ideas, fantastic implementations of seemingly ordinary projects are always appreciated. Using the usual fasteners, but replacing the traditional horizontal with some object from the environment, you can build an unusual composition that harmoniously fits into the overall style.

Drywall box in a polypropylene baguette

We will need the remains of building materials, for example, cuttings of large-section sewer pipes that remained from the installation of the pipeline in the country. We fasten parts of the same length on long studs or do without fasteners at all: we tie the pipes with a bundle and install them on the floor.

Cozy storage systems for shoes made of plastic pipes

Old accessories do not lose their relevance, moving from the category of fashion items to the category of vintage over time. It's time to take the traveler suitcases off the mezzanine and decorate one of the free walls with them - you get a luxurious decorative composition with a touch of nostalgia.

New life for old suitcases

Even from waste material, you can create a masterpiece if you wish. After cleaning, polishing and processing, decrepit fruit boxes easily turn into wonderful shelves that are not ashamed to decorate a nursery, hallway or bedroom.

Old boxes - retro decor

Take a look around - perhaps your eyes will find an interesting object that is bored in the corner, and your hands will turn it into an unusual wall decor. But do not forget about interesting solutions for fastening shelves to the wall: reinforced wooden brackets, forged openwork corners, barely noticeable studs, hidden pins.

Work with drywall: accurately and accurately

Whether driving nails into wooden logs or punching holes for dowels in a concrete or brick wall with a drill, we know for sure that fasteners will not let you down and will last as long as it takes. But with drywall, everything is more complicated. Convenient, quickly erected interior partitions are not a reliable basis for hanging wall decor.

Illuminated shelves inside a plasterboard box

There are two ways to attach shelves to a drywall base. The first is designed for light, small-sized structures, the second - for heavy, weighty products.

To mount a light shelf, you should perform the usual technical procedure: carefully drill holes, trying not to crumble the material, screw in dowels, then screws. Reliability can be increased with the help of special dowels - "umbrellas" or "butterflies".

Butterfly dowel installation scheme

Massive interior items are fixed differently. Their installation must be provided before the construction of the partition. In the places where they will be located, an additional vertical or horizontal metal profile or wooden bars should be installed, to which self-tapping screws or bolts will be attached.

Experts insist on anchor bolts, as they consider them the most reliable for hanging heavy objects.

Laminate has long established itself as an excellent flooring. But this material can be used not only for finishing the floor, but also for decorating walls. Walls covered with laminate look great and retain their attractive appearance for a long time (much longer than walls with wallpaper or paint). In addition, the design of the floor and the wall adjacent to it with the same material allows you to visually enlarge the space, so this technique is quite often used by designers, especially when working with small rooms.

No matter how paradoxical it may sound, but laying a laminate on a wall is much easier than laying it on the floor. But before introducing you to the technologies for attaching a laminate to a wall, we suggest learning about the advantages and disadvantages of this method of decorating, as well as finding out which laminate is best suited for these purposes.

Advantages and disadvantages of "wall laminate"

Laminate - a beautiful and durable wall covering

It should be noted right away that the wall decoration with laminate has much more advantages than disadvantages. For clarity, we have combined both of them in a table.

Laying laminate on the wall: advantages and disadvantages

Advantages disadvantages
1 Laminate is an environmentally friendly product.Laminate is susceptible to high temperatures. Its use near radiators or cooking surfaces is not recommended.
2 It has high wear resistance, so when used on the wall, it will not be demolished.Finishing the walls with laminate will cost more than painting or wallpapering them.
3 For wall decoration, you can use the thinnest (and cheapest) laminate, which makes it possible to significantly save.If the laminate is attached to the wall with glue, it is necessary to carry out quite extensive preparatory work (in case there are defects or irregularities on the walls).
4 It has many different colors and shades.Sensitive to moisture, therefore its use in the kitchen or in the bathroom is undesirable.
5

Can be washed with normal detergents.

6 With the help of a laminate, you can hide even strong defects and uneven walls.
7 It has excellent antistatic properties and practically does not attract dust.
8 The technology of laying laminate on the wall is quite simple and can be done without outside help.

Which laminate is suitable for wall mounting?

As already mentioned, for wall mounting, you can use the thinnest laminate with a minimum level of wear resistance. So you can not "bother" with the strength classes of the material, and focus all your attention only on its appearance.

When decorating walls with laminate, you can use the most inexpensive options of 21–30 strength classes.

As for the lock system (it can be adhesive, tongue-and-groove, click or kleimer), then when laying the laminate with glue, this parameter also does not matter, but when attaching to a wooden frame, it is better to choose a laminate with a click or kleimer lock system.

Click lock is the most preferred for laying laminate on the wall

Having decided which laminate is suitable for wall decoration, you can proceed directly to the technologies for its fastening. There are two main options for laying laminate on a wall: framed and fastened with glue. Let's consider each of them in more detail.

Fastening with glue

By itself, the process of fixing the laminate with glue is the easiest way to install. But you can only glue the laminate on a smooth and even wall (permissible level differences should not exceed 3 millimeters), so if there are defects or irregularities on the wall, you will have to carry out preparatory work to level it.

A set of tools for laying laminate flooring can be found in almost every home.

To prepare the wall surface, you will need a “standard” set of tools and materials for puttying work.

  • dry or ready-made putty (you can use the starting one);
  • primer;
  • spatulas of different widths;
  • construction mixer (in case of using dry putty);
  • container for preparing the solution.

For the laying of the laminate itself, you will need a relatively small list of materials and tools:

  • laminate;
  • glue;

Keep in mind that laminate flooring can expand when exposed to moisture and heat. Therefore, it is recommended to use only high-quality glue or "liquid nails" of well-known brands.

  • hacksaw for cutting laminate (a regular hacksaw is suitable);
  • metal square and pencil for marking;
  • wooden or rubber hammer;
  • building level;
  • rag to remove excess glue.

Laying technology

The first step is to carefully level the wall with a starting putty. When the putty dries (usually 24 to 48 hours), the wall surface is primed in order to ensure better adhesion of the adhesive to the wall surface.

Laminate - the material is quite heavy, so it is categorically not recommended to neglect the preliminary priming of the wall surface.

When the wall is fully prepared, you can proceed directly to laying the laminate.

It starts from the bottom left corner. Glue or liquid nails are applied to the first panel. Then it is glued to the wall.

Use only high-quality glue or "liquid nails" to fix the laminate

Depending on the brand of adhesive, the panel may need to be removed from the wall after a short press and allowed to air dry for 5-10 minutes.

Please note that when laying the laminate on the wall, it is necessary to leave a small gap between the bottom row of panels and the floor. To do this, under the first panel you need to put small (1-2 centimeters) gaskets, which are easiest to make from scraps of the same laminate. At the end of the work, the gap between the wall and the floor will be hidden by the plinth.

Following the first panel, the subsequent ones are attached to the wall, the horizontal laying of which is periodically controlled using the building level. The surface of the laminate is tapped with a rubber mallet.

If the whole laminate panel does not fit at the end of the row, then it can be shortened with a conventional hacksaw.

Laying the second row starts with half the panel (it is also shortened with a hacksaw).

Rows of laminate are stacked in a "staggered" order

This is done so that the laminate lies in a "checkerboard pattern", which allows you to give the surface a more attractive appearance.

If you glue the laminate without weathering the glue, then after laying two or three rows, you will need to take a break and let the glue “grab”. Otherwise, under the weight of the upper rows, the lower panels may move.

The frame for the laminate is best made from wooden bars

Mounting a laminate on a wooden frame is a more time-consuming process, but it avoids the need for pre-preparation of the walls. So if you are dealing with very uneven or deformed walls, we recommend that you use this particular technology. This method of fastening will also be the best option in cases where it is necessary to hide various technical communications behind the laminate sheathing, for example, electrical wiring or water pipes.

Necessary tools and materials

For the manufacture of the frame will need wooden bars. It is undesirable to use a metal profile, which is great for fixing drywall, for a frame under a laminate, since it is not very convenient to fasten laminate panels with metal screws.

From the tools for installing the frame you will need:

  • hacksaw for metal;
  • drill or perforator;
  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • level and plumb;
  • a hammer;
  • roulette;
  • cord or thick thread for installing "beacons";
  • dowel-nails, with which the frame is attached to the wall;
  • stapler, hammer and level (needed for attaching the laminate).

Work begins with the installation of the frame. The frame is installed perpendicular to the laying direction.

Good afternoon, today we will talk ABOUT PLATES - as an interior decoration.

I'll tell you -

  • about how you can transform a room with wall and ordinary plates.
  • about how they can be attached to the wall (6 ways)

and also show many, many different photos with great "plate ideas".

So let's get started.

Plates on the walls can transform any room, make it cozy and harmonious. It is thanks to the elegant scattering of colored plates that many multi-colored decor elements can be linked in the interior.

Blue pillows + red floor lamp + beige curtains - all these, incompatible colors the details suddenly one day begin to wonderfully harmonize with each other just because of the fact that a red-blue-beige family of plates.

Plates can be attached to the wall in any way. For example, a free chaotic "flock".

Plates can be placed on the wall ordered rows.

Or in accordance with mirror symmetry- when the right side reflects the left.

HOW TO CHOOSE WALL PLATES TO YOUR INTERIOR.

Here are 2 options for selecting plates to design:

  1. The plates will be the same color as the whole interior === beige room - then the plates will be in ivory shades.
  2. Plates to choose CONTRAST COLORS ==== beige room - so what, let the plates be bright red.

For example….

your interior does not stand out in any way, is made in a calm brown-beige or pistachio-white tones, and you would like to “stir up and decorate” it.

Can be done like this...

buy curtains, pillows, plates in one new color scheme and splash this new color into the room (pillows on the sofa, curtains on the window, plates on the wall).

The interior is instantly transformed, and there is a feeling that the skillful hand of the designer has worked here. What will be the surprise of your guests when they find out that it was you who modified your apartment in such a way and for very little money.

WHITE PLATES - AS SPACE FOR CREATIVITY.

And another CLEAR IDEA is to buy white plates and paint them in the colors that ask for this room.

Let's...

… in your bright interior THE MAIN COLOR SPOTs are a blue floor lamp and a pink pillow given by Aunt Klava.

It is these color accents that we will build on.

First, let's practice on paper (to immediately check several options and guess with the color): we take a sheet of paper, cut white circles from it and begin to decorate them, as you please, in blue and pink colors - these can be blots or stripes or flowers.

When the composition on paper circles satisfies us with its artistic performance, we can transfer this idea to real plates.

You can use ordinary acrylic paints (sold in the stationery department of any large store).

If you do not feel ARTISTIC COURAGE in yourself - can be made easier.

We take masking tape (the one with which you seal the windows) and simply stick it on the plate in strips, leaving a distance of 1-2 cm between them.

And these unglued places can be painted over with one color. When the paint dries, you can carefully remove the tape from the plate - so we get perfectly even stripes. These are the ones in the photo with orange flowers.

PATTERN ON PLATES can be more complicated.

To do this, you will need ordinary acrylic paints or special paints for working on glass.

Moreover, your drawing can be depicted entirely on ONE plate or occupy SEVERAL plates AT ONCE.

HOW TO ATTACH A PLATE ON THE WALL.

Here I have put together SEVERAL WAYS to mount plates on the wall…

Not always the plates with which we would like to decorate our wall have special devices on the bottom for attaching them to the wall.

Therefore, we have to come up with other ways of attaching plates to the wall.

Very good exit from the situation it is to buy good glue and use it to glue a twine loop to the plate. It is better to give preference to epoxy glue - it is sold in two parts (powder and liquid), when these parts are combined, a mixture similar to liquid amber resin is obtained - you can make a regular loop of twine and glue it to the back of the day of the plate with this epoxy resin. Unlike ordinary super-glue, such a composition will firmly stick the string to the plate and you will not need to worry about how once an elegant plate falls on the head of a dear guest.

Or here are other ways to attach plates to the wall.

FASTENING THE TALES TO THE WALL ON ROPES.

To do this, you need either such plates with a holey openwork edge,

Or- in each plate, you need to carefully drill a hole with a conventional drill with a special drill for drilling holes on the tile (so that the plate does not crack during the drilling process).

PLATES ON CLAMPS.

You can buy or make your own metal clips for cymbals. On the reverse side of the clamps there is a special loop for attaching the entire structure to the wall.

If you can not find such brackets for sale, you can make them homemade analogue.

For this we need twine or elastic + 3-5 paper clips.

Such a design is very quickly created and firmly fixed to the plates, and then to the wall, where the carnation holders are already stuffed.

Here is a picture showing these methods:

FORGED MOUNTINGS FOR PLATES.

Such fasteners need to be matched to the color of the plate. Typically, such structures are attached along the doorway, either side of a mirror or window. As you can see, even a Halloween party can be decorated with plates.

RACKS WITH NARROW RIBBED SHELVES FOR PLATES.

Or on the wall you can build shelving with narrow shelves, especially for cymbals.

The surface of each such shelf should:

  • or have ribbed cuts
  • or glued thin rails (something like rails).

Thanks to such a surface, each plate with its edge enters into such a gash (or into the gap between the “rails”) and does not threaten to fall off the shelf.

RACKS WITH PRINTED STRIPS(so that the plates do not slide off the shelves)

These racks also have narrow shelves, but the plates do not fight due to the facets, they are not allowed to fall off the slats transversely stuffed in the center of each span.

This solution is suitable when the height of the shelves is small - that is, the plate is not included in the height of the shelf.

It is also a solution when you want to place MORE ROWS of plates on a small rack.

FRAME FOR PLATES ON THE WALL.

Such square frames can be ordered in a framing workshop or made by yourself from small beams painted white. We glue the reverse side of the frames with cardboard or plywood wrapped with colored wallpaper to match our interior. (or you can buy different-patterned gift paper in the gift wrapping department).

But how to fix the plates inside such frames?

Here is one way: We punch a hole in cardboard (or plywood). The plate also has a hole on the back. We take a stronger wire - we thread it into a hole on a plate - we twist the ends of the wire between ourselves - we put both ends into a hole on cardboard (plywood) - and spread the ends of the wire of the second (straight-forward) so they will not crawl back out of the hole (for this, the wire should be hard enough).

The second way is similar: but instead of wire, we take strong twine. We thread the twine into the hole on the plate - we tie the ends into a knot - we pass both ends into the hole made on the back wall of the frame - and from the same ends of the twine we make a loop on which we hang the entire frame-trunk construction.

Also, it is possible use good glue - for example, Liquid Nails, a favorite of all designers - is sold at any hardware store (inexpensive).

WALL PANEL WITH PLATES.

In one German town there lives one good uncle ... with a very beautiful business.

And just look at what beauty this local craftsman makes with his own hands.

If you take a closer look, it becomes clear that such a panel is easy to make from ordinary materials, glue and good artistic taste. Read more about panels made in this style in our special article on the website. Semeynaya-kuchka. en "Family bunch"

WHAT CAN YOU REPLACE banal plates on the walls.

BOX LIDS ON THE WALL. You can buy several low round boxes - from each such box you will get two "pseudo-plates" - one from the lid and the other from the bottom of the box.

Every detail can paste over the remnants of colored wallpaper, self-adhesive film or trite paint with spray paint.

If in the center of each such cardboard plate we fix photograph or elements of kitchen utensils- get an original design composition on your wall.

TIN TRAYS ON THE WALL. Instead of plates on the wall, vintage trays can flaunt with equal success.

They can be bought at ordinary stores, at flea markets or brought from a trip.

A collection of trays can be put together very quickly if notify all your friends that in the near future the best gift for you will be a tin tray from the time of our grandmothers.

By the way, this tray is very Easy to attach with magnets various notes and reminders.

SOFT PLATES ON THE WALL OF THE CHILDREN'S ROOM. It is quite natural that where children jump and have fun (in the children's room or in the living room on the devan), it is undesirable to decorate the walls with heavy and hard dishes. For such cases, there are options.

Option one - we take ordinary round wooden frames or round wire rims. Ordinary wooden embroidery hoops (you can buy them in the same department where buttons and other sewing accessories are sold) will do an excellent job with this role. Wrap the frames with elegant fabric with a pattern and get a wonderful soft plate.

Option two - we buy foam plastic patterned circles in a hardware store (the ceiling is decorated with such circles at the place where the chandelier is attached to it). Using spray paint or a brush, paint these ceiling decorations in the colors we need and attach to the wall.

By the way very cheap and it will turn out beautifully if cast such circles from plaster... you think it's difficult ... in a special article I will tell you how, using old plastic cake lids and gypsum powder, you can make such round embossed plates.

And if you know another way to fix the plate on the wall - write in the comments about it - and I will definitely tell you about it in this article.

I think this is not our last article about cymbals, stay with us - we will have a lot of interesting things.
