How to make a crate for plastic. Expert advice on installing battens for plastic panels. Construction installation steps

Plastic lining is used for both internal and external finishing work. Recently, the material has begun to go out of fashion due to the emergence of new finishes. However, a wide range, availability and low cost makes it quite popular.

A distinctive feature of the lining is the simplicity and ease of installation, which can be easily handled by one person, even if he is doing it for the first time. To create a crate, a puncher, a level screwdriver, a foam gun, a grinder, a gun for silicone or liquid nails, a construction stapler, a molar knife, a corner, a tape measure and a pencil are required.

Panel types

By appearance, the panels are divided into three types.

  • Seamless- products, the standard dimensions of which are 250-350 mm in width and 3000-2700 mm in length. They form a beautiful cast surface. The thickness of the products varies from 8 mm to 10 mm. Panel options differ in the way paint is applied to the work surface and, accordingly, in price. They are all easy to clean with soapy water. Laminated panels are resistant to mechanical stress, do not fade in the sun.

  • curly- products, the edges of which have a shaped shape, which gives the assembled surface the appearance of a lining. The width of such models is most often 100 mm, less often - 153 mm. They have a solid color, usually white (matte or glossy) or beige. The panels have a lattice structure with air cavities, which can also be of different density and thickness.
  • Ceiling- an easier option. Such panels have a thickness of 5 mm. They easily wrinkle by hand and are the cheapest. They must be installed and operated with great care. Such material is recommended to design only places protected from physical and mechanical impact.

Mounting

There are only two mounting methods for PVC panels:

  • directly on the base plane;
  • with the help of a crate.

To install panels without using a batten, you need a flat base plane with the smallest differences. Suitable glass, brickwork, concrete, OSB boards, plywood, drywall, cobbled surface. For fasteners, silicone, liquid nails, mounting foam are used.

If it is not possible to get such fasteners, you can glue the panels on hot bitumen or oil paint mixed with sand or cement. They are applied to the base dotted or zigzag, gradually collecting the plates and pressing them. If necessary, spacers are used. Fasteners on a wooden or wood-containing surface are produced in the classical way - using wide-head nails, self-tapping screws or a construction stapler.

Installing panels on uneven surfaces is a more time-consuming process. For this you need a crate.

It can be made from:

  • plastic guides;
  • wooden bars or slats;
  • metal profiles.

The homogeneity of the material used in construction gives many advantages. Therefore, it is best to use special plastic guides. They are durable, lightweight and do not require additional processing, because they do not rot. They also have special fasteners for panels (clips), which simplifies installation.

Fasteners are made directly to the plane of the base, starting from the most convex point. Such a frame needs more careful assembly. The guides must be mounted strictly parallel to each other. Only in this case, the clips will fully play the role of fasteners. The first plastic panel is installed strictly at an angle of 90 degrees relative to the crate. Installation is a little more complicated because the elements bend easily, so it can be difficult to achieve an ideal plane.

For fastening to the plane, not simple dowels 6/60 are used, but anchor bolts. It is best to work together, this applies even to the masters. The cavity inside the guides is used for wiring the electrical cable. Sockets and switches are made overhead, lighting fixtures - outdoor. Other types of installation of electrical accessories require additional preparatory work with the base.

The most commonly used inexpensive and affordable wooden crate. The material for its manufacture can be slats or timber. They are pre-treated with an antiseptic preparation against fungus and mold. If necessary, you can make and fire impregnation.

It should be borne in mind that a plane assembled from PVC panels does not breathe, and such a crate needs to be ventilated. To do this, cuts are made in the bars if they are mounted close to the base. Reiki can be attached with small gaps. Decorative plastic gratings will not interfere. If there is an extractor hood (as, for example, in the bathroom, toilet, loggia or kitchen), then the built-in fan can be a good helper in maintaining the desired climate.

The frame for the panels is mounted on dowels and leveled with the help of pads at the place of its fastening. The distance between the frame guides is chosen arbitrarily, a step of 30 cm is enough. If there is a shortage or saving of material, the distance can be increased to 50 cm. For a high-quality result of mounting the panels, the wooden components of the crate must be even and smooth. However, they are hidden behind the front cover, so using first-class blanks for these purposes is very wasteful. In this case, a semi-edged board or BU is suitable (for example, old platbands or even skirting boards).

The frame is assembled around the perimeter. Bypass door and window openings, technical openings. In the corners where two planes meet, it is necessary to maintain perpendicularity.

The next component of the crate and at the same time the front finish is additional plastic fittings. Geometrically, space is three-dimensional. Therefore, only three planes can meet in one corner. For a uniform transition between planes and to hide gaps, there are various plastic profiles. The starting bar borders a single plane around the perimeter, and a ceiling plinth is used for the same purpose.

A connecting profile is used to distinguish between two panels that are different in appearance or color. in one plane or building them up. To meet two planes, planks are designed in the form of an inner and outer corner. To end the plane of panels and hide the technical space between it and the base of the wall, an F-shaped plank is used.

Profiles are fixed in the corners and along the perimeter of the frame in the classical way. After that, the panel is cut 3-4 mm less than the measured distance. This must be done, otherwise the plastic fittings will "swell". Then the panel is inserted into the grooves of the profiles. Fasten it to the rest of the guides. The distance on the panel is marked with a corner, and cut with a hacksaw with a metal blade or a jigsaw with the same blade. Also, plastic is easily and quickly cut by a grinder, but it should be noted that a lot of construction dust is generated in this process.

Molding

You can refuse to use plastic fittings, and use molding to seal the seams. The use of moldings made of various materials (wood, polystyrene) on PVC panels is irrational, because it will require additional processing (painting, varnishing). It is best to stick curly strips, that is, a molding made of the same PVC material.

You can fix the element on a special glue, which you will be offered when buying a molding in a store, as well as liquid nails or super-glue like "Moment". There are PVC corners of different sizes, which are just as easy to stick on the panels. There is less hassle with this type of finish, and the process itself takes less time, however, it is impossible to disassemble the panels after that without damaging them.

Metallic profile

For very uneven surfaces, to create a multi-level plane or a plane with a different angle of inclination, to use various types of built-in lamps, as well as to create an exhaust duct, metal profiles are used, mainly used for drywall installation. Such a frame weighs more and requires more special components for its installation. But it is reliable, does not require special care, is perfect for both indoor and outdoor work.

The frame is as easy to assemble as Lego., only during assembly you will have to perform more various manipulations (trimming, measurements, puffs, bends). However, there are no difficulties here. A person who has assembled such a frame at least once can cope with this task very quickly.

This version of the crate makes it possible to use a heater, which also acts as a sound insulator. The option of an interroom partition is possible. At the same time, the W-shaped aluminum guide (also called the ceiling) is reinforced with a 40/50 mm wooden bar. Such reinforcement is necessary to create a doorway. If desired, you can strengthen the entire frame, but this is not necessary.

Such racks are attached to the ceiling and floor using reinforced or simple metal corners, tightened with self-tapping screws. The crossbars are attached in the same way and can be reinforced in the same way. Their number depends on how the PVC panel will be mounted - vertically or horizontally.

The crate is attached to the wall or ceiling in a standard way. A U-shaped guide is mounted around the perimeter at a planned distance from the base. If the area of the surface to be covered is small (about one meter wide), then an W-shaped profile is inserted into it and tightened with a self-tapping screw (nine with or without a drill).

Plastic panels are a popular finishing material used to create modern decor in various areas of an apartment or house. In most cases, such products are attached to wall or ceiling surfaces using a crate - an easy-to-install frame.

The frame for PVC panels makes it possible to fix the finishing material with high quality even on uneven surfaces. In addition, the crate allows you to install plastic products in any type of premises - unheated, with unstable temperatures, with a high level of humidity. The frame is easy to install on your own, without the help of specialists. It is made of metal slats, plastic slats or wooden beams. The choice of one of these materials should be made taking into account:

  • the magnitude of the height differences on the treated surface;
  • the level of humidity in the home;
  • experience of a home craftsman with wood, plastic, metal.

Plastic profiles are quite rare

Plastic crate for various PVC panels can be installed in any room in terms of humidity levels. This design is created quickly enough even by very inexperienced craftsmen, it has an affordable cost. The elements of the PVC frame are characterized by a small thickness. Therefore, they are recommended to be installed in rooms with low ceilings. In such cases, the height of the room after the installation of the skeleton under the cladding will decrease slightly.

It is worth noting that plastic profiles for crates in hardware stores are sold quite rarely. Sometimes you have to sweat to get them. Plastic products also have one more drawback. It lies in the fact that they are allowed to be used only in rooms with even walls and ceilings. The plastic framework is established on a surface with the minimum roughnesses and curvature. If the base defects are more significant, you will not be able to achieve a high-quality finish.

2 Wooden and metal frames – guaranteed strength

If the surface to be treated has noticeable differences in height, it is better to use wooden bars for the crate. They make it possible to create reliable frames for plastic panels. The cost of wood is affordable, the installation process itself does not cause serious problems. In this case, it is only important to use well-dried bars that do not have noticeable bends.

The crate made of wood is equipped exclusively in dry rooms. In rooms with high humidity, it is forbidden to mount such a structure!

Metal profiles provide maximum frame reliability. They can be installed in any room in terms of temperature and humidity. And most importantly, the metal crate under the PVC panels is mounted on any ceilings and walls with significant curvature and height differences. Another advantage of metal structures is the possibility of safely arranging lighting built-in equipment in them.

The metal frame is the most reliable

The disadvantages of metal profiles include the following:

  1. 1. A certain complexity and laboriousness of mounting the frame (the home master must have some skills in working with metal).
  2. 2. The high price of products and hardware for their fastening.
  3. 3. Large consumption of material for the creation of crates, which increases the total cost of work.

The crate for modern plastic panels is selected taking into account all the above facts. We hope it will be easy for you to choose the optimal material.

3 How much material is needed to create the base for PVC panels?

Having decided on the material that you will use to build the skeleton for cladding, you need to figure out how many profiles and additional elements you will have to purchase. Everything is quite simple here. The crate, in fact, is a flat base of wooden, metal or plastic parts, on which PVC panels are attached. Therefore, you can calculate the amount of materials required to create such a foundation in just a couple of minutes.

The distance between the individual slats of the frame is taken within 45–60 cm (if wall cladding is planned) or 35–40 cm (ceiling trim). This is the main rule that you need to know when calculating the required material. Let's say you want to make a crate on the ceiling with dimensions of 170 by 250 cm from plastic or wooden planks. How to make a calculation? Elementary.

The distance between the slats is usually 45–60 cm

To mount the frame on such a surface, you will need strips 170 cm long (professionals advise installing PVC panels along the long side of the ceiling). The number of these elements is determined as follows. You need to take the length of the ceiling (250 cm) and divide it by the recommended distance between the individual slats (take the value 40 cm). And then add another bar to the result. That is, the total number of slats should be: 250/40 + 1. Simple mathematical calculations give us the required number of slats made of wood or plastic - 7 pieces.

If metal profiles are used, it is additionally necessary to purchase two special hangers for each of the slats. For a ceiling of the indicated dimensions, therefore, 14 additional elements will be required. Hangers are needed to hold the crate on the ceiling base. You will also need special metal parts - guides in the shape of the letter P. They are placed around the perimeter of the ceiling. With its dimensions of 170x250 cm, you need to buy 8.4 m of guides. The latter have a standard length of 3 m. This means that you will have to buy three pieces of guides.

The calculation of the number of planks for the crate on the wall is carried out in a similar way. Only the distance between the slats is taken not 40 cm, but more (up to 60 cm), and the length of the slats is determined based on the length of the wall base.

4 We make a metal skeleton - difficult, but reliable

Ceiling lathing with metal profiles for plastic panels is the most difficult option for creating a frame.

Let's consider it step by step:

  1. 1. Draw a horizontal line along the perimeter of the walls. The frame will be mounted on it. If you plan to install outdoor fixtures, the marking is carried out below the ceiling by 3 cm, in the case of installing built-in lighting - by 7 cm.
  2. 2. Strictly along the line, fix the metal guides. They are usually fixed to the wall in pre-drilled holes with dowel-nails (hardware parameters - 6x40 mm).
  3. 3. Insert the frame strips into the fixed guides. Do not forget about the distance between them at 40 cm!
  4. 4. Fasten hangers opposite the profiles to the ceiling surface.
  5. 5. Connect the metal rails to the suspensions, constantly checking the accuracy of the installation horizontally using the building level.
  6. 6. Bend the excess parts of the hanging elements to the ceiling.

The frame is ready. You can start installing PVC panels.

The metal crate is mounted on the walls according to the same principle. Experts advise putting profiles at the level of the shoulder, lower back, knee and ankle of a person of normal height. If you or someone from the guests inadvertently lean against a wall finished with PVC panels, there will be no damage to the finish (for example, its deflection). Due to the described arrangement, metal profiles will support your weight and keep the plastic cladding in its original form.

5 Other types of crates - everything is much simpler!

Now let's see how you can make a frame out of wood. For these purposes, it is advisable to use planks with a section of 3x3–5x5 cm. They are necessarily treated with an antiseptic (just apply it with a spray gun or brush on the slats) and leave to dry for a day. Then you need to install four prepared planks around the perimeter of the wall or ceiling, creating a kind of base for the entire crate. This preliminary construction must be perfectly aligned. Level check the correctness of its location. If necessary, place additional wooden blocks under the frame made.

The wooden frame is the easiest to mount

Next, attach additional guides to the mounted base every 0.35–0.4 m. They should be attached to the ceiling (wall) with self-tapping screws or screws. If this is not done, the frame will sag after a couple of years of operation. Don't spare fasteners. If necessary, perform additional fastening of the crate elements using extra rails and hardware. The frame should be as strong and reliable as possible.

With plastic skeletons under PVC panels, there are even fewer problems. The scheme of their installation is as follows:

  1. 1. Mark up the base.
  2. 2. Install plastic planks by attaching them to the walls with dowels.
  3. 3. Mount the panels on the rails. The latter are equipped with clips - special fasteners.

Note! All guides must be mounted strictly perpendicular to the plastic panels. If you do not fulfill this condition, it will not work to clad the wall (ceiling) with PVC products. The clips just don't work. This feature of plastic frames discourages beginners from using PVC guides.

Choose the method of arranging the frame for plastic panels that suits you. Create original interiors in your home, admire perfectly smooth walls and ceilings in your home. Good luck.

A crate for PVC panels or a frame is the basis for further finishing of ceilings and walls with plastic panels. The crate for PVC panels can be made from a wooden bar, a plastic plank or a metal profile. Each of these building materials has its own characteristics of application and installation. When choosing a material to create a frame for finishing with PVC panels, it is worth considering what humidity is in the room, the size of the height differences for the ceiling and unevenness for the walls, and the skills to work with the material from which it is planned to be assembled.

Wooden crate for PVC panels

It is advantageous to use wooden bars in the manufacture of a frame for plastic panels, as this is the most inexpensive and widely available material. However, it should be remembered that the construction of a wooden frame is possible only in dry rooms. You also need to remember that with all the simplicity of manufacturing such a frame, the selection of bars should be approached with particular captiousness. It is not recommended to use curved, bent, and poorly dried bars.

Lathing for PVC panels made of plastic profile

A plastic profile is a very convenient material for making a frame. It can be used in rooms with any humidity. In addition, the plastic profile has the smallest thickness of all materials that can be used for crates. Thus, it allows minimizing the inevitable loss of space when finishing with plastic panels. The plastic profile is very easy to install. However, it also has its limitations. Firstly, due to its flexibility, its use is possible only in rooms where the ceiling and walls have slight curvature and irregularities. Secondly, and this is the main drawback of the plastic profile - this is its availability on sale. That is, in hardware stores and markets, a plastic profile is very rare.

Lathing for PVC panels from a metal profile

The metal profile is the most reliable material for making the base for plastic panels. It performs well in any room. This is the only material that will allow you to install the crate on walls with very large curvature and ceilings with a significant height difference. In addition, such a frame allows you to install built-in lighting fixtures. However, the crate made of this material is more expensive at cost. This is due to the higher cost of the profile, as well as the higher material consumption for the assembly of the crate. In addition, the installation of such a frame is more laborious and requires the skill of working with a metal profile. If you do not have such a skill, and there is no time to acquire it, you can invite a proven master to perform such work.

Calculation of the material for the crate.

The crate for PVC panels is nothing more than planks attached to the surface, which is finished with plastic panels. The calculation of the material required for the assembly of the frame is to determine the number of these slats. It should be borne in mind that the distance between them should be in the range from 35 to 40 cm for the ceiling, and along the walls from 45 to 60 cm. For example, for a crate on a ceiling measuring 170 cm by 250 cm, the following amount of PVC profile or wooden beam will be required . Since it is more economical to place PVC panels along the long side of the ceiling (that is, 250 cm), you will need 170 cm long strips. We determine their number as follows:

Ceiling length, cm / Distance between planks, cm + 1

It turns out 7 planks 170 cm long. Thus, the required amount of PVC profile and wooden beam is determined for the installation of a frame on the ceiling. When determining the amount of a metal profile, suspensions should be added to the above calculation - elements holding the structure on the ceiling. In this case, you will need 2 of them. on the plank. That is, the total number is 14. And also the guides are a U - shaped metal bar, attached around the perimeter of the ceiling. That is, the total length is 8.4 meters. Given that the length of the metal guides is 3 meters, it will take 3 pcs.

To calculate the material required for assembling the frame on the wall, we take into account that the length of the planks is equal to the length of the wall. And between them it is not recommended to make a distance of more than 60 cm. In this case, the number of timber, PVC and metal profiles is the same. The only thing is that when installing a metal frame on a wall, metal suspensions will be required.

Lathing for PVC panels on the ceiling.

Installing a sheathing for PVC panels consists in attaching bars, PVC or a metal profile to the surface to be trimmed. Moreover, the fastening must be done perpendicular to the direction of installation of plastic panels. The most time-consuming is the installation of the crate of metal profiles on the ceiling. To do this, you will need the following tool:

Ladder;

A drill with an impact mechanism, but a hammer drill is better;

Scissors for cutting metal;

Level (laser, water or regular, at least 60 cm long);

Screwdriver;

Indicator screwdriver with the ability to detect hidden wiring;

Drills or drill for concrete;

Pliers;

A hammer;

Roulette;

Construction pencil.

Instructions for mounting the batten for pvc panels on the ceiling.

Decide on the installation of built-in lighting fixtures. When using them, apply a strictly horizontal line at a distance of 7 cm from the ceiling along the perimeter of the walls of the room. When using outdoor lights, the distance can be reduced to 3 cm.

Fasten metal guides along the perimeter of the walls strictly along the drawn line. It is convenient to fasten them with a dowel - with nails measuring 6 by 40 mm. When drilling holes in the wall, first check with an indicator screwdriver that there are no hidden wiring.

Insert the profiles into the installed guides and distribute them with a frequency of no more than 40 cm between each other.

Fasten the hangers to the ceiling opposite the profiles with a distance of 45 to 60 cm between each other.

Mount hangers with profiles. When performing this operation, regularly check the horizontalness of the surface of the frame using a level. Bend the excess parts of the hangers to the ceiling. The crate is ready for the installation of PVC panels.

Lathing for PVC panels from a metal profile

When using wood or PVC planks, the installation of the crate is as follows. Planks are attached to the surface of the ceiling with dowels - nails with a size of at least 6 by 60 mm. Aligning the wooden frame horizontally is carried out by placing pieces of timber between it and the ceiling.

Lathing for PVC panels on the wall.

The crate for PVC panels on the wall is mounted in the same way as on the ceiling. The difference lies in the frequency of installation of profiles or bars. So between them it is not advisable to make a distance of more than 60 cm. In practice, craftsmen attach profiles or bars in this way.

They are mounted at the level of the ankle, knee, pelvis and shoulder of a person. And in this case, if someone leans against a wall of plastic panels, there will be no deflection or damage.

You should also check the verticality of the frame and the formation of right angles with a level or plumb line.

Dear readers, I hope the practical advice of the article site will help you correctly choose the material for the manufacture of the frame, and the crate for PVC panels will turn out to be reliable and even.

PVC crate for PVC plastic panels: photo and video

Thanks to the crate, the panels are allowed to be installed even in rooms with high humidity, unstable temperatures or generally unheated. The plastic crate for PVC panels lasts longer than they themselves because it does not deform under the influence of a negative environment. It is often used for new panels after the old ones have been removed.

Plastic and wood

The design may consist of wooden or plastic slats. To the latest PVC panels are attached to special clips, which is very convenient. A metal profile design is rare, but it is not yet very popular among craftsmen. The metal base has its drawbacks, including a lot of weight compared to plastic.

Experienced experts say that wood is far from the best material for such structures. The wooden crate is susceptible to deformation, which entails changes in the appearance of the panels. Ideally, they should fit very tightly - without visible joints. Therefore, changes in the design of the crate are immediately reflected on the panels themselves, which are only slightly displaced, but this greatly spoils the aesthetic perception.

Advantages of plastic over wood:

  • thanks to the fastening with clips to the rail, installation becomes easier and faster;
  • not subject to the negative influence of a humid environment, therefore it is not a concentration of mold and fungi;
  • often used as a wiring conduit;
  • fireproof.

Thanks to these undeniable advantages, the plastic crate for panels clearly has an advantage when choosing a material.

Preparation before installation of the crate

To create a crate with your own hands, you should follow some recommendations from the masters:

  • there must be a certain distance between the planks. It is better if it turns out to be the same, so it is much easier to calculate the amount of material for the entire structure. The optimal distance is 30 cm, but the norm is up to 50 cm;
  • the installation of the rails must be perpendicular to the panels. Vertical panels are attached to horizontal rails, and horizontal, respectively, to vertical;
  • strips must be located at the beginning and at the end of the entire surface on which installation work is carried out. Do not forget about window and door openings.

The surface of the wall before installing the batten structure does not need to be additionally prepared. It is only necessary to stock up on the necessary tools in advance:

  • screwdriver or screwdriver;
  • electric drill;
  • building level;
  • plumb;
  • hacksaw for wood;
  • miter box;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • drill with a tip suitable for dowels;
  • screws;
  • dowel;
  • chalk for marking.

For the design itself you will need:

  • slats or beams made of wood - 30 × 10 and 30 × 20 (for interior and facade work);
  • metal or PVC profiles.

So that everything you need is at hand and you do not have to be distracted while working.

Lathing for PVH panels - installation

The most responsible and important stage in the installation is the installation of the frame. As far as the crate is straight and correct, the panels themselves will acquire an aesthetically attractive appearance after they are installed. It will not be possible to hang beautifully and evenly finishing elements on a curved base.

If wooden slats are nevertheless used, their moisture content should not exceed 18%. Pick up all parts of the future design whole, straight and without knots. Using this material, you should know that this type of crate will not work in the bathroom or in the kitchen.

The perimeter marking for the frame is done from the most protruding section. Based on it, it will turn out to make the finishing layer of the panels as even as possible. With the help of chalk, tape measure and slats, the contours are applied, which will correspond to the crate for the panels. For the installation of rails, a plumb electric drill and a level are used. The elements are fastened to each other and to the wall using screws and dowels.

The space between the planks should be:

  • on the wall - 400-500 mm;
  • on the ceiling - 300-400 mm.

On a curved wall, the crate for panels is leveled with spacers made of wood or plywood. The building level checks how evenly the structure is located. The space between the wall and the crate for panels is filled with insulation. It is not necessary to do this, but you need to keep in mind that this place can be easily used for its intended purpose. Thanks to the insulation, it will not only become warmer, but also increase the sound insulation of the room.

Installation of panels begins only after the complete installation of the crate.

Many who are faced with floor repair for the first time are afraid of laying laminate with their own hands. This material is considered

In private households and cottages that you want to make residential all year round, but there is no way to spend.

Finishing the slopes of the front door can be done in various ways. Each of the available options has its own merits.

Wall decoration with PVC panels

During repairs, you don’t always want to get involved with “wet” work - laying tiles, for example. There is a simpler technology - wall decoration with plastic panels. You can cope on your own even without much experience in construction work and in a day or two carry out repairs in the bathroom, toilet, balcony / loggia and kitchen.

Types of plastic panels for wall decoration

This type of finishing material is made of PVC - polyvinyl chloride. In a semi-liquid state, this polymer is extruded into a mold. A drawing is applied to the finished panels. It can be first printed on film, then glued and varnished (laminated panels). Moreover, these panels may not have a flat, but a textured surface. The drawing applied using this technology retains paint for a long time, but such materials cost about two times more.

Several samples of PVC laminated wall panels

Another technology is to apply the drawing directly to the plastic, after which it is covered with two layers of varnish. Cheaper technology, but the service life and quality of the pattern is lower.

Ceiling and wall

There are two types of plastic panels - for ceilings and for walls. Those designed for the ceiling have a thickness of 5 mm and thinner partitions, and wall ones - from 8 to 10 mm and a greater thickness of walls and partitions. You can determine which view is in front of you by looking at the cut. This type of finishing material differs in that it has a flat surface and, with a tight joint, the seams are not very noticeable.

Plastic panels for wall decoration

There is another standard size, which is also called plastic lining - with a thickness of 10 mm, the panel has a width of 10 cm and shaped edges, which are more typical for plastic lining. If you finish the walls with this material, the surface will not be flat, but embossed, similar to a wooden lining.

Sizes and prices

In width, plastic wall panels are most often 25 cm and 37 cm, length - 2700 cm and 3000 cm. There are other non-standard sizes, but these are most common. For the price, you can observe a rather strong spread - it depends on the wall thickness, type of printing, manufacturer, complexity of the pattern, etc.

Thin PVC wall panels

Above we talked about products that consist of two layers of plastic connected by jumpers. Along with a lot of advantages, they have a rather serious drawback: if you apply enough force, they can be pushed through. This is often the reason for not using them. Therefore, thin wall plastic panels appeared on the market not so long ago. Their thickness is 3 mm and no cells. Only a layer of plastic with a pattern applied to the surface. Accordingly, there is nothing to push through. The dimensions of this type of panels are 950*480mm or so.

The method of installation is different for them - they are glued to the walls. Due to the fact that this finishing material has a very small thickness, it is cut with scissors and, moreover, takes up very little space from the room - 3 mm.

What to look for when choosing

It is clear that the choice begins with color and pattern. But in order to avoid difficulties during the installation process, when buying, you need to track some points:

  • Inspect the cut of the selected plastic panel. The thicker the lintels and the front and back polymer layers, the stronger the finish will be. You can also focus on weight - the larger it is, the thicker the panels will be.
  • The thickness of the plastic is the same everywhere, without thickening and thinner places. This is a sign of normal quality.
  • Pay attention to the geometry. The cells should not be crumpled, the edges should be absolutely even. Even if everything is packed, it does not interfere with unpacking and inspecting - so that there are no problems later.
  • Examine the front surface. The drawing should be applied evenly, clearly, without smeared spots.
  • If you choose panels from different packs, but of the same color, carefully look at the colors - they may differ.

To make the wall decoration with plastic panels beautiful, check the quality in the store

It is also worth checking the quality of the polymer used. It is necessary to take one bar so that it bends by about 30% and straighten it. After that, inspect it. If there is no damage to the plastic or pattern, everything is fine.

Correct technology for mounting plastic panels on walls

What is good about decorating walls with plastic panels is that you can do it yourself, it takes a little time. Well, and one more plus - you need the usual tools:

  • drill with drills (install dowels) and a wood crown (drill holes for sockets, etc.);
  • screwdriver or screwdriver, construction stapler, glue - depending on what type of fastener you prefer;
  • saw with a blade for metal - cut plastic panels;
  • building level;
  • sharp knife - cut to length.

The crate for wall panels should be in the same plane

This is all that may be needed when installing PVC panels on the walls. It takes time - one or two days, depending on the experience and repaired areas.

What to make a crate

The installation of PVC panels on the walls according to the technology should be carried out on the crate. The crate is made from:

  • Wooden bars. The optimal section is 40 * 20 mm. Before mounting on the walls, it is desirable to treat the wood with antiseptic compounds. If the wall decoration with plastic panels is planned in a humid room, then special treatment against mold is also necessary. Panels are attached to wooden planks with wood screws, nails with a wide head, staples from a construction stapler.

Wooden planks for pvc panel battens

metal profiles. Use wall profiles for drywall with a width of 40 mm. In wet areas, it is better to use galvanized metal. In this case, the fasteners are self-tapping screws for metal. The disadvantage of this type of crate is that it takes up too much space - each wall has at least 3-5 cm, which is critical in a small room.

Metal profiles (galvanized)

Plastic mounting strips and clamps (mounting plates). This type of fastening is designed specifically for PVC panels. Fastening is fast - the plastic is simply snapped into the groove on the profile with clamps. No additional fasteners are required. If necessary, the entire finish is quickly disassembled - you just need to pry the kleimer with a screwdriver (with a little effort) and it will come out of the groove. What else is good about this type of crate is that it takes only 1 cm (this is the thickness of the profile).

This is what the mounting strips for PVC panels look like

Of the three listed materials for mounting plastic panels in the bathroom, it is best to use plastic. It reacts little to temperature changes, does not react in any way to changes in humidity, does not rot or crack. Galvanized feels good in a humid environment, but it must be of good quality, otherwise it will rust anyway. The most unimportant material is wood, but with appropriate processing, they also cost years. And for this to be true, follow the recommendations for application on the antibacterial composition exactly. In some cases, it is enough to brush a couple of times with a brush, in others - soak for a while and then dry.

How to make a crate

Before starting the installation of the sheathing under the PVC panels, the walls must be prepared. First, remove the old finish and everything that can fall off. If there are large indentations on the surface, it is better to close them up, and strongly protruding parts can be cut off. After the wall has become more or less even, it is treated with a primer with an antibacterial component (against fungi and mold). After that, you can already proceed with the installation of the crate.

Basically, plastic panels are mounted horizontally or vertically.

Lathing slats are located perpendicular to the PVC panels. That is, if you mount the panels vertically, the crate - horizontally and vice versa. Lathing battens are installed at a distance of 30-50 cm from each other. The optimal distance is 30 cm (the panel will “walk” less). Planks are attached at the beginning and end of the wall, as well as around window and door openings.

The crate is attached at the bottom and top of the wall, around window and door openings. In between, the step of installing the slats is 30-50 cm

The crate is fastened under the plastic panels, most often on dowels. 6 * 40 mm are placed in a concrete wall (so that a piece does not fall out on the back of the concrete partition), 6 * 60 mm in a brick wall. Fasteners are installed in increments of 50-60 cm.

In order for the wall decoration with plastic panels to be even and beautiful, the crate must be set in the same plane. To do this, wooden strips are installed under the wooden planks where necessary (you can - pieces of plywood), only they also need to be treated with a composition from fungi and mold.

Wooden slats can be mounted on hangers

You can also use perforated hangers for plasterboard ceilings. They are used when placing metal profiles in the same plane, but they can also be used when installing wooden bars.

If you decide to make a crate from plastic mounting profiles, then you should take into account one point: they must be strictly perpendicular to the PVC panels. Even a slight deviation can lead to the fact that the clamps simply do not snap into place and will not hold anything. Therefore, check the verticals / horizontals very carefully. One more thing: along the perimeter of walls, doors and windows, it is better to install wooden planks of the same thickness as plastic guides: we will attach starting profiles to them.

Installation of plastic panels

In addition to the actual wall plastic panels in the store, you will need to buy some more fittings - these are corner, starting and F-shaped profiles. They are necessary in order to give the finish a finished and neat look.

What is needed for installation besides wall panels

At the level of the floor and ceiling, you can use either a starting or ceiling plinth. The starting one is just a narrow strip of plastic, and the ceiling plinth is a shaped product that has a characteristic cut.

Finishing walls with PVC panels begins with the installation of selected profiles in one of the corners and at the top / bottom. They are attached to the installed slats of the crate. Fasteners are selected depending on what material was chosen for the crate. The result is something very similar to a frame. We will insert panels into it.

The problem node is the junction of the corner and ceiling plinth (we do the same below)

Next, cut the first panel along the length or height of the wall. Cut plastic wall panels with a saw blade for metal. When working strongly with your hand (and even more so with your foot), do not lean - push through. In order for the strip to stand in its place without problems, carefully measure the length, subtract 4-5 mm and cut it off.

A protruding spike is cut off from the first strip, after which it is inserted into the corner profile with the cut side, tucking the edges into the upper and lower. Lightly tapping with the palm of your hand, drive the bar all the way, check the verticality with a level by applying it to the edge of the installed strip. Then they are fixed to each plank of the crate.

It looks like a plastic wall panel inserted into the ceiling plinth

Having installed and fixed the first strip, cut off the second one, join it with the first one, fix it, etc. No complications. Problems can only arise with the last panel on the wall. It usually has to be cut in width, and then try to fill it immediately into the groove of the previous bar and into the corner or starting profile. It does not always work out neatly - often the plastic is jammed. This situation can be avoided without fixing the second corner profile. Then, a corner profile is put on the panel cut to size, all this is joined together with the previous bar, and only then the corner profile is fixed. This is not entirely correct, since only one half of the corner profile is attached, and the second remains loose. But having suffered, trying to do the right thing, you don’t pay attention to it. Then everything repeats - further wall decoration with plastic panels occurs in exactly the same way.

How to do without corner profiles

If the presence of skirting boards at the top and bottom of the wall is familiar to us, then not everyone likes the corner profiles. When decorating walls with plastic panels, you can do without them. You will need a sharp wallpaper or clerical knife. If a strip of plastic is cut from the back in the right place, the panel can be bent. From the front side, this will not be visible in any way, and torment with the last panel can be avoided. And outwardly, many people like this way more.

Wall decoration with plastic panels: how to do without corner profiles

To correctly determine where to cut, insert the penultimate panel, fasten it. We take a piece of panel a few centimeters wide, insert it into the already installed one and mark where the corner is. We take it out, cut out a strip of plastic in the marked place, try it on. If everything is fine, use this piece as a template, transferring exactly the place of the cut. This is also not according to technology, but such wall decoration with plastic panels looks, it seems to me, better. Especially if the color and texture of the corner profile is different.

How else can you fix PVC panels on the walls

Although the method of decorating walls with plastic panels described above is not very complicated, it is not suitable for everyone. For example, the walls are perfectly smooth after plastering on the lighthouses or leveling the walls with drywall. It is clear that the crate is not needed. It will only take up space. In this case, they go to the violation of technology - they glue plastic panels on silicone or on mounting foam.

Starting profiles in this case will still have to be installed, but they will need to be fixed to the appropriate dowels. After that, foam (zigzag) or silicone (islets with a step of 10-15 cm) is applied to the back side of the panel, the bar is inserted into the profiles, pressed, fixed in one or two places with the appropriate fasteners. Continue in the same spirit.

The advantage of the method is very fast, the disadvantage is that it only works on flat (or almost) walls. But the most important thing is that it is simply impossible to remove the trim without destroying the plastic panels.

There are only two mounting methods for PVC panels:

  • directly on the base plane;

  • plastic guides;
  • wooden bars or slats;

If the width is greater, then suspensions are mounted to the plane using a puncher and dowel nails 6/40, 6/60 or a screwdriver, depending on the material of the plane. Hangers (crocodiles) fix the guide profile in the same plane with the same nine. Instead of a nine, you can use ordinary short self-tapping screws with or without a press washer. The option with a press washer will turn out to be more expensive, but it lies best of all on a plane and does not interfere with the installation of panels.

First, determine in which direction the panel will be mounted. For the ceiling, it is better to lay seamless panels perpendicular to the penetration of the light source into the room. The quality of the material is different, and no one is immune from installation defects, and this method will reduce the external manifestation of these shortcomings.

In order to save material, you can consider both options for mounting panels(along and across) and determine in which way there will be less trimming. After you know the direction of the bearing rails of the battens, divide the distance of the plane by the pitch of the rails. So you get their number plus one more thing. This is the minimum material molding at which panels can be installed.

To perform more voluminous work, you need to add the perimeter of each plane, technical, window and door openings. When calculating, it is necessary to take into account the molding of the purchased products. If possible, you can make accessories for crates to order.

Wall decoration with plastic panels is now very popular. But before deciding to choose this particular option, it is worth studying information about the properties of the material and the technology for its use. At first glance, you can find a lot of information about this finish, but often it is distorted or presented in a form that is inconvenient to read. For this reason, the choice of the source of information should be taken carefully.

Plastic as a material

Wall decoration with plastic panels has its advantages and disadvantages. They must be taken into account when making the final decision. Finishing material has the following advantages:

  • Absolute harmlessness. Many are afraid of plastic due to the fact that it is not a natural material. Modern technologies that allow the production of harmless products are simpler and cheaper than the old ones. For this reason, it is extremely difficult to find dangerous material even among fakes.
  • Wall panels for interior decoration are very beautiful. There are many options for colors and textures. In addition, manufacturers are releasing new seamless options that are very different from the usual office panels. You can choose a wood finish, plain, color. Photo printing is also applied to the coating.
  • Ability to use in tight spaces. Plastic panels for interior decoration are perfect for various niches and other corners of an apartment or house where it is inconvenient to work with other materials.
  • Panels are easily mounted together with ventilation grilles, sockets. On any color, these elements look natural and are not striking.
  • Plastic is perfect for finishing the bathroom and other wet areas. Wall and ceiling decoration is durable, does not require complex maintenance, can be operated at low temperatures (for example, on an uninsulated balcony).
PVC panels look pretty good for their price

The disadvantages include the following negative points:

  • Flammability. The material is difficult to set on fire, but when exposed to fire, it supports combustion and releases a large amount of gases dangerous to humans.
  • Panels do not breathe. They completely block the movement of air through the walls, which is necessary to ensure normal ventilation. Due to this property, the type of finish is not recommended for use in the bedroom and children's room.
  • Insects can settle in the voids of the panels. This problem is especially relevant for the southern regions.
  • The need to use a special tool for cutting and certain skills during installation.
  • Do-it-yourself wall decoration with PVC panels requires careful preparation of the base.

Finishing can look very non-trivial!

Having considered all the advantages and disadvantages of the material, you should calmly make an informed decision about the possibility of using this type of finish.

What tools will be required

It is worth preparing for working with PVC panels. First of all, you need to find a special tool:

  • Circular Saw. If it is not possible to find it, you can use a jigsaw. The file or disk should be fine-toothed (“clean cut”). It is preferable to use a saw. The jigsaw file is highly flexible, so the cut can turn out to be wavy.
  • Jigsaw chute with 45 and 90 degree angles.
  • Construction stapler when sheathing on a wooden crate.
  • Rubber mallet with hook rule. The same tool is used for installing laminate. Needed to "pull out" jammed panels. By doing this by hand, you can easily damage the panel or crate.
  • Plaster spatula, which is used to bend the finishing profile when installing the last plank. Spatula length 80-120 cm.

Also, when performing work, you will need:

  • pencil and tape measure;
  • building level;
  • square;
  • fasteners (self-tapping screws, dowel-nails, clamps);
  • screwdriver;
  • perforator;
  • sealant;
  • antiseptic.

Installation of plastic panels for wall decoration

Plastic can perfectly replace wooden decorative elements and other finishes. But it must be fixed in strict accordance with the technology. Decorative wall panels will help make your home cozy and beautiful.

Finishing the walls in the bathroom and other rooms, as well as the ceiling with plastic panels, is carried out in the following order:

  1. ground preparation;
  2. markup;
  3. crate device;
  4. installation of start and finish profiles;
  5. installation of all other strips;
  6. facing of slopes;
  7. fixing skirting boards.

Foundation preparation

Work with plastic begins with the removal of the old coating. In order for the finish coat to have an attractive appearance without distortions and other troubles, you will need to carefully close up all the cracks in the walls and ceilings and eliminate irregularities.

Cleaning the surface of the walls is necessary to prevent the appearance of dust, fungus and mold

markup

Before finishing the room, it is necessary to determine the location of the racks of the frame. Finishing with plastic panels of ceilings and walls provides for marking in the following order:

  1. Mark a point at a distance of 1-2 cm from the level of the floor or walls. Through this point draw a line around the perimeter. For marking accuracy, a building level is used.
  2. When marking the walls, the same line must be drawn under the ceiling.
  3. From the bottom line with a step of 40-50 cm, parallel lines are drawn to the entire height.

This marking is suitable for mounting panels vertically. The cladding is always fixed perpendicular to the frame, therefore, if necessary, arrange the cladding elements horizontally, perform vertical markings.

Horizontal and vertical mounting types

Lathing device

Most often, wood is used as a crate for panels for interior wall decoration. In this case, the slats must be pre-treated with an antiseptic composition to protect against destruction. Holes for fasteners with a distance of 50 cm are made along the marking lines using a puncher. The frame rails are fixed to the wall. If it is necessary to lay wiring under the finish, this must be taken into account at this stage:

  1. provide fasteners for wires;
  2. check that they do not protrude beyond the plane of the crate.

Be sure to check the horizontality of the crate

When using a metal C-profile as a crate, you need to additionally buy elements for fasteners. They are usually sold as a set. The metal is fixed to the base with self-tapping screws in dowels. All work must be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

To increase the thermal insulation or sound insulation of the walls, special mats can be laid between the frame rails. They are fixed depending on the type of material used. For different types, it can be used both for mounting on dowels and for adhesive composition.

Lamella fastening

The first plastic bar needs to be fixed in the most illuminated and noticeable corner. Most often, this becomes the one that is located opposite the entrance to the room. Take measurements using a tape measure. The panel is cut to the required length with a special tool (usually a circular saw).

One edge of the plank is inserted into a special side molding. This element is designed to ensure mutual fastening of panels that are located on opposite sides of the corner. An element with a molding is applied to the corner and fixed to the crate from the back.

Next, you need to connect the first panel to the second. For this, the tongue-and-groove system is again used. The joint is pressed tightly and the bar is fixed to a wooden or metal frame. All subsequent elements are mounted using the same technology. To guarantee maximum tightness of the joints, it is recommended to grease the side edges with silicone before installing the panel. When installing the last part, it is worth checking whether it fits in width. If necessary, the element is trimmed in width. The last panel is not fixed to the crate. It must be snapped onto the finishing element. If necessary, all joints are treated with silicone (sealant).

Installation of panels on the frame using clamps and clips

To complete the installation, you need to install accessories. Such elements include skirting boards and their plugs, corner elements. The latter are bought together with the panels and glow over them.

Panel fittings will give your finish a neat finished look.

To make holes for switches and sockets, use a sharp knife. They cut holes of the required size.

Mounting panels with glue

If necessary, finishing elements can be fixed directly to the wall without the use of crates. In this case, increased requirements are imposed on the base. It will take more time to prepare it, since the surface must be perfectly flat.

Before starting work, they acquire a special glue. It is allowed to use liquid nails for installation. It is important to check the composition of the substance in the store. It should not contain solvents that destroy plastic elements.

The work is performed in the following order:

  1. cleaning the base from the old lining;
  2. treatment with antibacterial putty or a layer of primer, which contains components that can protect against mold and mildew;
  3. drying the base;
  4. preparation of the adhesive composition in strict accordance with the manufacturer's instructions on the package;
  5. the choice of a working tool is carried out depending on the consistency of the glue: roller, brush, spatula;
  6. work begins with corner elements;
  7. glue is applied at a time to a small area (equal to about 1-panels) so that it does not have time to dry;
  8. a corner piece is fixed, to which an ordinary element is mounted with the help of grooves;
  9. the panels are pressed against the wall with their hands for a short time, during which the adhesive solution has time to grab;
  10. mount all other panels;
  11. install decorative elements, coat the seams with silicone sealant.

In addition to mounting on glue and on the crate, there are several more methods that are used by professional workers. But they are not widely used. In conclusion, a few general tips can be given:

  • The panels are recommended for finishing balconies, loggias, bathrooms, hallways and living rooms. For bedrooms and nurseries, you should pay attention to more breathable materials.
  • It is best to use seamless plastic in rooms with air conditioning or a forced ventilation system.
  • In the bedroom for adults, it is permissible to use material for individual sections of the walls.
  • It is unacceptable to use items in the kitchen. In this case, grease and other substances will settle on the surface of the panels, which will become an excellent breeding ground for bacteria.

It is also worth checking the quality of the polymer used. It is necessary to take one bar so that it bends by about 30% and straighten it. After that, inspect it. If there is no damage to the plastic or pattern, everything is fine.

Correct technology for mounting plastic panels on walls

What is good about decorating walls with plastic panels is that you can do it yourself, it takes a little time. Well, and one more plus - you need the usual tools:

This is all that may be needed when installing PVC panels on the walls. It takes time - one or two days, depending on the experience and repaired areas.

What to make a crate

The installation of PVC panels on the walls according to the technology should be carried out on the crate. The crate is made from:

Of the three listed materials for mounting plastic panels in the bathroom, it is best to use plastic. It reacts little to temperature changes, does not react in any way to changes in humidity, does not rot or crack. Galvanized feels good in a humid environment, but it must be of good quality, otherwise it will rust anyway. The most unimportant material is wood, but with proper processing, they also cost years. And for this to be true, follow the recommendations for application on the antibacterial composition exactly. In some cases, it is enough to smear with a brush a couple of times, in others - soak for a while and then dry.

The crate is fastened under the plastic panels, most often on dowels. They put 6 * 40 mm in a concrete wall (so that a piece does not fall out on the back of the concrete partition), 6 * 60 mm in a brick wall.

Then everything repeats - further wall decoration with plastic panels occurs in the same way.

For example, the walls are perfectly even after plastering on lighthouses or.

Finishing the bathroom with plastic panels is not the best method for solving the problem, but due to its cheapness and simplicity, it is often used.

Today, there are panels for bathrooms that imitate, with various patterns, etc. In terms of cost, these materials almost do not differ from tiles, and savings are achieved due to the cheapness of installation.

Plastic panels can be mounted in various ways, the specific choice depends on the wishes and capabilities of the customer. In the article we will give step-by-step instructions for all the options for decorating walls and ceilings.

Before starting work, you need to purchase materials, but here inexperienced builders make mistakes.

We do not touch on design issues, this is the topic of the following articles. Let's talk about construction aspects.

  1. Check mechanical strength. The stronger the panels, the more durable and better the sheathing. Check them before buying, squeeze your fingers at the end. You will be surprised how different the materials are regardless of the price. There are cheap and durable PVC panels and vice versa, expensive ones, but resembling cotton wool in strength. The quality of the panels depends on the raw materials used, equipment and production technology. Never buy soft panels, in case of damage it is almost impossible to change them.
  2. Check pattern matching. Very often domestic producers sin. Complex multi-color patterns on the panels require the maximum responsibility of the manufacturers. Patterning is not a simple process, quality control must be carried out at all stages of production. Installation of low-quality panels leads to the fact that individual elements on the lamellas do not match. If this happens with ceramic tiles, then by slightly adjusting the gaps, the situation can be corrected, this cannot be done with panels. We understand that it can be difficult to check in a store. Warn the seller that such a check will be done by you at home, be sure to take a check. At home, lay out the panels on a flat surface and carefully inspect all the joints, pay attention to how the lines of the pattern or pattern move from one panel to another.
  3. Pay attention to the docking points, there should be no gaps. Unfortunately, some manufacturers manage not only to leave gaps, but also to make them uneven in width. The reason is low-quality raw materials, old machines and the human factor. Marriage becomes even more noticeable if modern spotlights are installed in the bathroom, cracks cast a shadow, the appearance of walls and ceilings will upset even very undemanding clients.
  4. The thickness of the panels over the entire area must be exactly the same. Connect the two lamellas and see if the junctions lie in the same plane. If there is a slight difference in height, then this is a marriage. When lighting the room in these places, shadows of various widths are formed, the appearance of the wall will be irrevocably damaged.
  5. Check the material for plasticity. If the panels are made of recycled PVC, then during fixing it will crack. This is a significant marriage, the fastening strength is significantly reduced. Recycled PVC is obtained after processing products from primary. In terms of cost, raw materials are much cheaper, and this tempts unscrupulous manufacturers.

    High-quality panels do not crack when bent

Use the information when buying materials, do not create additional problems for yourself. Remember that high cost does not always guarantee the same quality.

Complete set and additional elements

We will discuss how to calculate the number of panels and additional elements below, and now we will tell you what is included in the package of wall decoration with PVC panels. Select the appearance and specific dimensions taking into account the parameters of the panels.

NameBrief description and purpose
It has the form of a plate bent at an angle of 90 °. It is used for finishing of internal and external corners of the room.
A complex profile, part is installed under the panels, the outer side hides the unevenness of the cuts or surfaces.
Consists of a corner, the inner part is wider than the outer. Hides the irregularities of the outer corner.
Differs from the outer width of the sides. The wide one is installed under the lamellas, the outer narrow one hides the irregularities of the inner corner.
Allows you to connect lamellas without a lock, it is used if the length of the lamellas is insufficient for surface finishing
It is installed first and last, sometimes it can be used instead of a universal or special corner.
Is established in places of adjunctions, it can be applied as a platband.
The supporting element of the frame can be plastic or metal profile.
Made of metal, presses the panel to the mounting plate. Allows to dismantle panels without loss of factory qualities.

The panels are fixed with self-tapping screws with a press washer, staples with a stapler, clamps or liquid nails. The choice of method depends on the materials for the manufacture of the supporting frame and the quality of the walls and ceilings.

How to process material

One of the advantages of PVC panels is manufacturability. You can cut the material in one of three simple ways in two directions.

Method 1. Mounting knife. Use only new inserts, the tip should be as sharp as possible.

Cut directionWay of execution
Along the panelsLay the panel on a flat place, mark the place of the cut. When cutting, you need to use a long straight rail. Press it firmly against the surface of the panel and cut the lamella on one side along the entire length with the end of the knife. Then turn the panel over and bend the cut point. Cut off the remaining plane in a bent position.
across the panelsA more complex case requires certain skills. Mark the cut. With the tip of a knife, carefully cut the jumpers between the planes one by one. After the entire width under the ruler has been passed, make a continuous cut in one plane. Bend the cut off part and cut off the second plane from the opposite side.

Method 2. Bulgarian. It is necessary to work with a disk for cutting metals. Disc thickness is minimal. Cutting is very easy and fast, the only requirement is a minimum experience with a grinder. Be sure to follow all safety rules, injuries from the angle grinder are very dangerous. Burrs on the opposite side of the cut break off easily after cooling.

Method 3. Hacksaw for metal. Undesirable option, work hard and long. But in extreme cases, you can use it.

With a jigsaw you can make any cut on a plastic panel

The quality of the cut depends on practical skills. But do not be upset if the cut edge is not very even, additional elements allow you to hide problems in width up to one centimeter. The cut can rarely be worse, the panel will be fit for installation.

How to cut several PVC panels at once

How to calculate the number of panels and additional elements

The bathroom has a small area and many different transitions and corners. It is for this reason that professional builders are not very willing to finish these premises, it takes a lot of time to measure, install the crate and adjust the panels, and there are few square meters at the exit. Builders are paid for meters, not for time, so they choose large premises.

The more corners and transitions, the more unproductive waste there will be. Their number increases if panels with decorative patterns or asymmetrical patterns are selected. Such material does not allow the use of segments in other places. For ordinary panels, the amount should be increased by 10% of the surface area to be finished. In bathrooms, the stock should increase to 15%. In addition, if there are complex patterns, then the panels will have to be counted piece by piece, taking into account the location of the pattern.

Measure the total length of the inside and outside corners, the length of the skirting boards on the floor and ceiling. Decide how much you need a starting profile, whether you need a connecting profile, what elements you will finish the corners with (simple or complex). If you have the skills to work with PVC panels, you can use simple corners, if not, buy complex ones. They allow you to hide errors during cutting or dimensioning. Take your time, think carefully, always buy with a margin. It is very disappointing to go to the store again for a meter or another corner, and time is wasted in vain. Additional elements cost a penny, do not save on them.

When counting the number of rails or mounting strips, keep in mind that the distance between them should not exceed 50 cm. In addition, they must be mounted at the junction of the floor and the flow as close as possible to all corners, window and door openings. Reiki in these places are installed regardless of the location of the last row. Measurements and calculations may take several hours, use them wisely. It will never be possible to accurately calculate the number of clamps or screws. Buy them in packs, the seller will tell you the approximate number of pieces, taking into account the width of the PVC panels.

General requirements for surfaces

One of the advantages of wall finishing technology with plastic clapboard is the low requirements for surfaces. The walls do not need to be specially plastered and leveled with putty, only large cracks are sealed. The height of the irregularities can be up to one 1-1.5 centimeters, everything that is more needs to be cut down.

The climatic parameters between the wall and the cladding are the most favorable for the reproduction of fungi and other microorganisms; it is impossible to destroy them later. You will have to remove the casing, do disinfection and vapor protection. Only after such events can you begin to mount plastic panels. No matter how carefully you remove the skin, damage to the materials cannot be avoided. If you manage to buy the missing ones with the same characteristics, great. If not, you will have to buy new materials for the entire scope of work.

Installation of panels on the walls on a wooden crate

We will give step-by-step instructions for the vertical arrangement of panels. In the future, we will talk about the technological differences between vertical and horizontal placement.

Step 1. Calculate the surface area of the walls minus window and door openings.

Make a stock taking into account the above remarks. We will fix the lamellas with a stapler and staples, this is the fastest and fairly reliable option. Self-tapping screws for a long time, clamps on self-tapping screws even longer, and liquid glue will not allow replacing a damaged panel if necessary. The crate is fixed to the wall with dowels. If you have special plastic mounting strips, then the lamellas are attached to them only with clamps, they are inserted into special grooves. Advantages of clamps - the fixation area increases, the lower mounting plate of the panel is not damaged. Due to this, the strength of the fastening increases, the clamps are recommended to be used during ceiling sheathing with spotlights. They allow you to withstand the increased weight of the structure.

Step 2 Clear the wall of large irregularities and seal the cracks.

To check the surface, use a large flat rail, apply it in different places and see the clearance. At the same time, check the horizontal position, if the deviation is more than a centimeter, you will have to plaster. If the spread is smaller, then the position of the rails is regulated by various pads.

Step 3 Soak the surface with an antiseptic, make vapor and waterproofing. You can use aluminum foil or plastic wrap. It is allowed to impregnate the walls with liquid insulators, just pay attention that they are for indoor work. Wooden slats also need to be treated with solutions.

Step 4 To speed up the work, mark the position of the rails, use a blue rope to beat off the horizontal lines at the desired distance.

Step 5 At a distance of no more than 10 cm from the ceiling, fix the first rail. Carefully check its position with a level. Insert wedges if necessary. The rail is fastened with dowels. First, make a hole on one side and fasten the dowel, and then on the other. Next, dowels are installed along the entire length, the distance between them is about 20–30 cm. In the same way, fix the rail near the floor.

Step 6 Stretch ropes between them, two at the ends and one in the middle. The ropes perform the function of beacons, you install all the other rails along them. Be sure to frame around window and door openings. Once again check the position of all the rails, make sure that the crate is installed correctly near the openings. If the slats are not in the same plane, then this will negatively affect the panels, the backlight will reveal their incorrect position. To fix the marriage, you will have to dismantle the lamellas and repeat the installation from the beginning.

Step 7 Fasten a corner in the corner, start wrapping around from the far corner of the room. Fix the corner with a stapler, the length of the staples is 6 mm. During fixation, carefully control its verticality along two edges. Not only the quality of work, but also the speed of installation depends on the correct position of the corner. If the angle is not equal to 90°, then you will have to adjust the dimensions of each panel, which is very long.

Step 8 Measure the width and height of the wall in several places. The parameters must be the same. If the spread is less than a centimeter, then all workpieces can be cut to the same size. Count the number of panels, measure the desired length on it and cut off the excess. This will be a template, use it to make marks on the remaining slats.

Step 9. Insert one edge of the lamella into the corner, fasten it to the crate from the back side. Don't forget to check the position. The first panel is installed - continue installation in the same way to the opposite corner of the room.

Step 10 The last panel needs to be cut in width depending on the remaining space. Make it about 1 cm narrower, this will make installation easier. First install the last lamella in the corner, and then move it to the penultimate one until the lock clicks into place.

Finish all wall surfaces according to the same algorithm. A little more work near the openings, in these places you need to measure and cut each element separately.

Installation of a metal frame

The advantage of a metal frame made of profiles is that it allows you to accurately align the position of the rails, regardless of wall irregularities. How is it attached?

Step 1. On the wall, draw the lines for placing the U-shaped suspensions. The algorithm of work is the same as for wooden slats.

Step 3 Cut the U-shaped carrier profiles to length, count their number.

Step 4 Start installing carrier profiles. The vertical position is adjusted using the holes in the hangers or a slight extension of the profiles. If they do not allow you to accurately install the crate, then unbend the suspensions. Such actions do not worsen the bearing performance of the elements. Loads from lamellas act perpendicular to the bend. The elements are fixed to each other with self-tapping screws.

Important. If significant errors were made during the installation of the crate, then they can be corrected only after the dismantling of the PVC panels. It is not only expensive, but also time consuming. Do not forget to constantly monitor the position of the supporting elements. Remember that the most accurate device for measuring the vertical position is an ordinary plumb line. You can buy it or make your own. The level can distort readings up to 2 mm per meter. And if it fell from a great height, then it is impossible to install a crate on it.

What is the difference between vertical and horizontal laying

The only difference is that for horizontal laying of panels, the frame must be vertical and vice versa. For bathrooms, horizontal laying of panels is strongly not recommended. Water easily enters the locks, then penetrates into the space between the panels and the wall. If there is a lot of it there and it is constantly there, then no steam and moisture protection will help. The appearance of mold and fungus cannot be avoided. To destroy them, you will have to completely disassemble the wall covering, carry out a set of special preventive and construction measures, and sheathe the walls again. Such work costs about twice as much as the correct wall cladding.

Practical advice. Do not invent a bicycle, do not create problems for your own money. In bathrooms, install PVC panels only in a vertical position.

Installation of panels on the draft ceiling

For example, let's take panels that mimic a rack ceiling. The draft ceiling does not require any preparatory work.

Step 1. Saturate the draft ceiling with antiseptics, allow them to soak and dry. It is advisable to make a vapor barrier with aluminum foil or plastic wrap. Fix the material with a stapler, carefully seal the joints with tape.

Glue the joints with tape

Step 2 Measure the distance between the opposite walls of the room and cut the skirting board, in the corners the connection is at 45°.

Practical advice. Do not fasten the skirting board to the wall with self-tapping screws. Under the weight of the panels, it will sag a little, gaps will form between it and the wall decoration. In addition, this method of fixation requires perfectly flat planes. Self-tapping screws press the plinth to the depressions, it bends, the appearance deteriorates significantly.

Fasten the elements to the wall with liquid glue, remove excess material immediately. Fix only three skirting boards, the fourth is placed after laying the panels. For a guarantee, you can additionally fix the back of the element to the ceiling with a stapler. Wait 2-3 hours for the glue to dry completely.

Step 3 Ceiling panels should be a few millimeters thinner than wall panels. Keep in mind that each skirting board can fit two centimeters into the panel. Measure the length of the ceiling from edge to edge of the skirting board and add 1.5 cm to this value, the remaining 0.5 cm remains for ease of installation. It is better to measure and cut each panel separately, this minimizes the chance of error.

Step 4 Recheck the dimensions and geometry of the ceiling. If there are slight deviations, then they will have to be gradually eliminated by changing the width of the gaps between the lamellas. The magnitude of the change should not exceed two millimeters, otherwise the adjustment will become noticeable. If the architectural features of the ceiling allow, then align the panels in places that are invisible to the eye. Open areas will already have smooth joints.

Step 5 Insert the end of the panel into one plinth, bend it slightly and insert the other end into the opposite one. Align the panel and tuck the long edge into the third skirting board.

Practical advice. What to do if the plane of the ceiling resembles a rhombus? Such cases happen with hack builders, but this can be corrected. Install ceiling panels diagonally. There is nothing complicated, just cut the end of each panel at an angle. How this is done, we will describe below. The negative consequences of a crooked ceiling - the amount of panel waste increases significantly.

Step 6 Press the panels firmly against each other, fix them with a stapler. The tighter the locks converge, the stronger the connection. If the ceiling is not very even, then during the fastening of the panel at the end between it and the plinth, a gap may appear. To prevent this from happening, push plastic trimmings into these places and only then fix them. Under force, the plastic will shrink to the required thickness, the gap will close. There are difficulties with bending short slats. In such cases, make them another centimeter shorter, the width of the skirting boards allows this. The best option is to immediately lay the panels on the wider side of the ceiling. During installation, do not apply excessive force, do not damage the baseboard, do not scratch the walls, do not break the panel.

Step 7 After all the whole panels are installed, measure the width of the remaining uncovered ceiling. Cut the material according to these dimensions using one of the possible methods.

Step 8 Using the method described above, insert the panel into two skirting boards, connect one edge to the lock. The rest will have to be fixed separately. There are two options. The first is to lubricate the reverse side with liquid nails before installation and glue it. The second is to drill a hole in one plane along the diameter of the self-tapping screw and fasten the second plane to the ceiling with it.

Step 9 Cut off the base piece from the fourth ceiling plinth. Spread the remaining plane with liquid glue and attach to the wall in the right place.

This completes the installation of the ceiling panels. Of course, during operation, you need to leave space for electrical wiring, ordinary or spotlights. If, after installation, gaps are visible in some places, they can be sealed with a sealant of the appropriate color.

Installation of panels to the ceiling on a metal frame

Step 1. Beat off the installation line of the supporting profiles along the perimeter of the room, make sure that the ceiling is horizontal. At a distance of approximately 50–60 cm, fix the remaining profiles. If the ceiling is very uneven, then use suspensions. They are fixed and adjusted in the same way as on the wall. The difference is that the ceiling frame is more difficult to check with a level: it is more difficult to work, hands are raised up and get tired quickly.

Frame for PVC panels

Step 2. Glue three skirting boards with liquid nails, cut them at 45 ° at the corners. If the ceiling plane does not have right angles, then each gash will have to be adjusted. Glue the plinth both to the wall and to the metal profile. During gluing, follow the technology. After the skirting board is attached, take it away and wait 2-3 minutes, then press the element again. Check its position by rule or level. The rule is applied to the lower edge of the plinth. If there are gaps, then carefully move the plinth down with your hand until it stops with an even edge of the rule. Give it time to cool. The cracks in the corners are sealed with a liquid sealant, but for professionals, the fit should immediately be tight. Under the ceiling of the bathroom is very hot and humid. You can be sure that the sealant will peel off after 4-5 years, it will have to be removed, and the gaps re-sealed.

Practical advice. Sometimes, during the curing of the glue, the skirting boards lead a little in the corners, they are at different levels. To prevent this from happening, shove at the corners of the trim, they will constantly keep the two elements at the same level.

Step 3 Insert one end of the lamella into the baseboard, bend it slightly and tuck the other end into the opposite baseboard. Align the panel and slide into the third plinth. We have already mentioned that before installation, you should accurately check the dimensions of the ceiling. If one side is longer than the other, then the difference must be gradually leveled by adjusting the gap between the lamellas. The method, of course, is not ideal, but the best does not exist. Install panels always on the long side of the ceiling. Due to this, it will be possible to reduce the number of cuts and facilitate the bending of the lamellas during installation.

Panel fixing

Constantly check the position of the slats. In order to prevent a jumped-off screwdriver from damaging the end of the panel, place a clean wide metal spatula between them during tightening, it serves as a reliable protection. It is not necessary to twist the press washers into the tail of the panel, it is difficult and increases the risk of damage, the main thing is that it presses it against the profile with a hat.

Step 5 The last panel must be cut to fit the remaining gap. To facilitate installation, make a gap of about 1-1.5 cm, then it will hide in the baseboards.

Step 6 Cut off the back plate of the plinth, spread the remaining surfaces with glue and glue it in the wall. Do not forget that gluing must be done in two stages. If the plinth crawls down under its own weight, then hold it for a few minutes or come up with any temporary stop.

On this work is completed, you can proceed with the installation of lighting fixtures. Even before you start finishing, you should know the type of devices and their installation locations, pre-cut holes of the corresponding diameters in the panels.

  1. Draw on the panel a hole of the desired diameter and in the selected location.
  2. Insert the drill into the drill, adjust it to high speed.
  3. If there is an assistant - excellent, he will put the panel on the edge and hold it firmly. If you have to work yourself, then the panel is held with one hand, while the other works with a drill. This is inconvenient and difficult, the hole will turn out uneven.
  4. Drill a hole on the circle line, press the drill against the line and drive it along the circle. From friction, the plastic will melt, and the drill will "cut" a hole in it.

That's all, remove the burrs and the hole is ready.

What are the features of mounting panels on the ceiling for spot lighting? No matter how light the fixtures are, a large number of them creates an additional load on the panels; over time, the ceiling may sag a little. In order to prevent such consequences, it is necessary to install intermediate jumpers more often, professionals recommend making the distance between them no more than 30 cm. In addition, choose strong lamellas for the ceiling, pay special attention to the characteristics of the locks, they hold the weight.

Can panels be reused? A lot depends on how you shoot them. Cheap materials can produce long longitudinal cracks during detachment of fixation sites. To prevent this phenomenon, with the sharp end of the mounting knife, cut the junction of the lamellas with the frame along the entire perimeter of the hardware. Before re-laying, it will be necessary to move the supporting frame a few centimeters in any direction so that the fixation is done on intact areas.
