How to connect a broken internet cable. How to extend the Internet cable and not worsen the connection. How to extend and mount a power input cable in an apartment Is it possible to extend the cord

How hard is it to damage electrical wiring? Many will say that if you do not apply mechanical stress to the wires, then it is almost impossible. If you follow all the installation rules, then the wiring will serve you faithfully for many years. But as practice shows, sooner or later malfunctions occur and sometimes you have to turn to specialists.

In the life of any electrician, there are cases when it is necessary to build up electrical wires. During operation, the wiring may be damaged or the wire may break off. Moreover, the wires, as a rule, break in the most inconvenient places, such as, for example, under the ceiling when connecting a chandelier or lamp.

Also, wires very often break off when connecting sockets, especially with aluminum wiring. Oddly enough, even during repairs, builders can leave a short supply of wire, to which it will be difficult to connect anything. I'm not talking about cases with the use of grinders, hammers and drills. In general, there can be so many situations that you can’t imagine yourself.

How to extend the wires in the outlet

Greetings to all guests and regular visitors of the Electrician in the House website. I will tell my story in which I had to extend the wires in the socket. The other day, there was a little job. A friend of mine called, like a normal guy (in the sense that his hands grow from where they need to), he said he needed help with replacing the outlet. He says that he tried to replace it himself, but nothing happened, because the wire broke off. Well, I think no problem, I'll come and see.

Upon arrival, a friend told me that there was a single socket in the kitchen, in which the refrigerator was constantly turned on. And recently they purchased an electric oven, the place for it has not yet been determined and it is temporarily connected from the same outlet (and as you know, there is nothing more permanent than temporary). And you yourself understand that in order to use the electric oven, you had to pull the plug of the refrigerator from the outlet.

It was very inconvenient, so the idea arose to put a double socket, but such a disaster happened. In this place it would be possible to put a block of sockets, but the house was panel and I did not really want to drill another hole in the wall, and the recent renovation did not allow it. In general, there was no other way out. Fortunately, the wiring in the apartment was all copper.

What I saw on arrival at the place, see for yourself. As you can see in the pictures, a two-wire wire with a cross section of 2.5 mm2 sticks out of the box (socket box). There is no grounding in the apartment, so all the wiring is two-wire. One of the veins broke off completely.

As you can see from the photo, the wire for connection was too short. Stumps of 2 cm with which you can’t do anything and you can’t connect anything to them. Here it only remained to build up the wire, there are simply no other options. Anyway, that's what I decided for myself.

Of course, it was possible to gouge the wall and raise it and reinstall the socket a little higher, thereby moving the socket a little in the end. But this, as I said, is troublesome: repairs, wallpaper, dust ...

How to build copper wire in a socket

Since many users have preserved and still use the old aluminum wiring, it would be dishonest to ignore this fact. Therefore, I propose to consider several ways to solve the problem - for copper and aluminum wiring.

Those who carefully read the article understood that the wiring in my case is copper. And this is already a plus. There are several options, in this case. You all know them very well, as I have already talked about them on this site.

  1. - pressure testing with GML sleeves;
  2. - screw terminal blocks;
  3. - soldering of wires;
  4. - self-clamping terminal blocks like Wago.

This is not the whole list of compounds that can be used for wire extensions(I have named only the main ones). I decided to stop at the first option and execute extension of wires in the socket using crimping sleeves.

For crimping, I need a GML sleeve (tinned copper sleeve) with a section of 2.5 mm2 or 4 mm2. Why two sections of shells about this a little later. We will isolate the whole thing with heat shrink tubing. Safety is paramount, so the first thing we do is turn off the machines in the electrical panel and check the absence of voltage on the repaired wires. As you can see from the photo, there is practically no wire stock. You will have to build up both cores, phase and zero.

When asked why such short wires in the box, the owner said that when the electrician installed all the sockets and switches after repair, he specially cut them so that the extra ones would not stick out and interfere. So it is, but there should always be a supply of wire - keep this in mind for the future. It is good that the sockets are normally installed, there is enough space to accommodate both the sleeves and the socket housing itself.

Let's actually get to work. Naturally, it is important that the wires to be stacked are of the same material and section. In my case, the wire you need build up with a copper monolithic core, therefore, the wire for extension should be the same.

Now I want to dwell on the section of the sleeve. Remember a little higher, I considered two options for a 2.5 mm2 or 4 mm2 sleeve. I settled on the second option. Why is that? If you use the first version of the sleeve 2.5 mm2, then in this case the extension is performed butt-to-butt. How does it all happen? We take the PK-16 press tongs for crimping the sleeves and press the sleeve with the wire on one side. Make sure that when crimping, the wires are evenly spaced inside, that is, the ends of the wires are located in the middle of the sleeve. Then we insert the wire from the other side and also crimp it.

If you use a sleeve for 4 mm2 then wire extension it will not be butt-to-butt, but overlap. Such a connection, in my opinion, turns out to be more reliable and of high quality. The only thing that needs to be finished off is the sleeve with another copper core of 1.5 mm2. We remove the insulation from the wires to the length of the sleeve.

On the one hand, we pass the wire completely through the sleeve, then insert the second wire on the other side. We also pass it completely through the sleeve.

As I said, for compaction we finish off with another vein of 1.5 mm2. The latter is tight, due to which the connection really turns out to be good.

Now we take ticks and put two bench presses at the beginning and at the end. I do two opposite presses.

Now our connection must be insulated. You can use whatever means you have. I will use heat shrink tubing. We cut off the tube a little more than the length of the sleeve, so that after squeezing, the bare parts of our connection do not peek out from under it.

We put on the tube and warm it up with a hairdryer. After the tube shrinks, carefully put the whole thing in the box. If one layer of heat shrink is not enough, you can put another one on top. Now you know how to build wires in an outlet.

After we have increased the phase wire in the outlet, let's do the same with the neutral wire. We do the same sleeve, the wire section and the heat shrink tube are all the same.

We also overlap the wires and finish the sleeve with one vein with a cross section of 1.5 mm2.

I think everyone understands how to lengthen the wires in the outlet using crimping. It remains only to securely insulate the exposed parts. For this we use a double layer of heat shrink.

After the wires are insulated, we lay them neatly on the bottom of the box, so that the joints in the future when connecting the sockets do not break.

There is actually nothing complicated here. To lengthen the wires, the first step is to remove the insulation from them. Then we insert the wire on one side of the terminal block and tighten it with a screw. Do the same with the other end of the wire. When tightening the screws, you must comply with the measure, otherwise you can pass the aluminum core.

One of the advantages of such a connection is that it is not necessary to insulate the terminal block, since it is already covered with PVC insulation. After building up the wires in the outlet, carefully lay them in the box, connect the wires to the outlet and put it in place.

There are several basic situations when you need to build up electrical wiring. Most often, the need arises if the aluminum wire in the outlet breaks, but there are also cases when it is necessary to extend the cable from the electrical appliance to connect the power. Next, we will consider all the most common cases and tell the site's readers how to build up a wire in an outlet, under water, and for connecting powerful household appliances.

The main methods of building

To begin with, consider how you can lengthen a wire or electric cable at home. If the cores of both spliced conductors are made of the same metal (copper or aluminum), then the following extension methods can be used:

  1. With terminal blocks. The most convenient option is not only building, but also. It is recommended to use even in the situation if the cores of the conductors are made of different metals. The main condition for their use is to connect circuits in which the current does not exceed the rated current indicated on the terminal block. We advise you to buy them in "tested" places and not be deceived by a low cost - the market is oversaturated with fakes that melt and burn.
  2. Budget connecting blocks, the so-called polyethylene terminal blocks, allowing you to extend the wiring. The peculiarity is that with a strong tightening of the monolithic core, the metal part of the terminal block cracks. They cannot be connected to stranded wires. To do this, they need to be tinned or crimped with a type tip to get a reliable and durable contact.
  3. Twisting lived. The old-fashioned way, which is one of the most unsafe, but at the same time popular even with experienced electricians. To build up electrical wiring using twisting, it is necessary that the broken end be at least 30 mm (for reliable splicing). Read about it in the corresponding article. Know that twisting is prohibited according to 2.1.21. Therefore, do not use this method in its pure form (without crimping with a sleeve or PPE, soldering or welding).

  4. Soldering. Another option for extending the wiring is to use wire soldering. If you know how to use a welding machine, this method will allow you to qualitatively build up a conductor of even a large cross section (4-6 mm2).
  5. Sleeves. is an excellent connection method and is well suited for cable extension. But you may not have enough space to build up a broken wire in the outlet.
  6. or other similar branch terminals. With their help, branches are connected to enter private houses from high-voltage power lines. Also suitable for extending wires. The main disadvantage is the large size.
  7. - excellent for branching, connecting and extending low-voltage wires. They can be used to connect 220V circuits, but are better suited for information lines, such as twisted pair.

So we examined what methods exist for building up electrical wires at home. Further, typical cases will be provided to your attention when you need to lengthen the wiring yourself, and now we recommend watching a visual video instruction:

Master class on lengthening the section of electrical wiring by crimping sleeves

Most Common Situations

So, now let's do the following: consider each specific case that can happen in everyday life, and immediately provide instructions on how to properly build wire and cable.

Situation 1- Broken wire in the wall or ceiling.

In the socket or at the place where the chandelier is attached, the cores often break. As a result, the devices do not work. It would seem that the simplest task - to restore the supply of electricity, you just need to connect 1 vein. But when stripping, you realized that this would not work due to lack of length - the vein broke off “under the root”.

You also have to do this if you decide to either switch to another place and during electrical work one of the wires broke off, then you need to act depending on the situation that has arisen.

If the length of the core remaining on the surface is sufficient for extension, install the terminal block and extend the short conductor of the same cross section and material. If a very short conductor remains in the wall, break a section of the wall, free up a sufficient length of the power cable for extension, strip the core to a metallic color and extend the section.

So you can also build up the wiring in the junction box or on the ceiling for or any other lamp (for example, a sconce on the wall).

Situation 2- It is necessary to increase the cable in the water.

This happens if you need to extend the wire for a submersible well pump. All you need is to connect the spliced cores through the terminal block, and then insulate the extension point with, as shown in the photo below. The wire of the submersible pump must be attached to the pipe and cable so that there is no load on it, but additionally take care of the junction, make a small loop when installing it.

It is recommended to insulate the bare area with heat shrink tubing, even if it becomes necessary to extend the wire in the bathroom or on the street in order to protect the electrical wiring from high humidity.

Situation 3- It is necessary to extend the cable to power a powerful electrical appliance in the apartment.

Another situation that needs to be taken seriously is extending the wire to connect powerful household appliances. For example, if you decide whether an air conditioner or an electric stove and a copper conductor breaks off at the input (its cross section must be at least 6 mm 2), then the terminal block will not work here, because. current loads from the appliance will be significant. In this situation, it is recommended to build up the wire by soldering, and then carefully insulate the area with electrical tape. The same can be done by extending by crimping sleeves or welding.

Situation 4- The length of the wire of the temperature sensor of the underfloor heating system is not enough to connect to the thermostat.

In this case, it is recommended that you first read the instructions that came with the temperature controller, and if no restrictions are specified, feel free to use the cable for the thermostat using the same terminal blocks.

Situation 5- It is necessary to increase the wire of the LED strip for hidden ceiling lighting or the strip itself.

There shouldn't be any problem in this situation. There are special connectors that allow you to extend the LED strip (photo below). The main thing is to take into account the requirements that we provided when we considered it with our own hands. The wire to the tape is extended by any of the methods described above.

Situation 6— Damaged twisted-pair cable.

In this case, you can build up a section with a new twisted pair using twisting or soldering. The main thing is to carefully isolate each place of extension so that the bare cores do not touch each other. It is also convenient to do this with the help of scotch locks, by the way, they are loved and often used by network installers.

Recently, providers are increasingly using to connect to the Internet. This is a simple and reliable way to connect to the World Wide Web. What is especially important, when using a local network, the user does not need to install any programs, drivers or additional equipment (like an ADSL modem).

Your Internet cable must be connected to the WAN port (Internet port) of the router, and the compressed twisted pair cable to the regular LAN port of the router and to your computer. After a simple router setup, you can use the Internet as before.

Method number 3. To lengthen the Internet cable, you can make a twist.

The easiest way. All you need is a piece of twisted pair cable of the length you need. It is not difficult to buy an uncompressed twisted pair cable.

After that, you need to cut your Internet cable in any convenient place and wedge in the purchased piece of twisted pair cable. To do this is quite simple. In order to connect a twisted pair cable, you do not need to solder anything. All that needs to be done is to strip the conductors and carefully twist the twisted pair by color. Naturally, everything needs to be insulated with high quality electrical tape. You can see how to twist a twisted pair cable in the video.

Often in everyday life, many are faced with a problem: how to build up or restore a broken electrical cable or wire, in cases:

  1. When you drilled or cut with a grinder wall or floor, and at the same time you accidentally cut an electrical wire or cable laid in the wall and not visible to the eye. In this case, as a rule, sparks are visible at the site of damage and turns off or knocks out. In addition, sockets and lighting that were connected after a damaged section of electrical wiring stop working.
  2. It often happens that one or two wires break off in the junction box under the socket or switch, and the remaining length is not enough to connect them.
  3. And sometimes need to move outlet slightly higher or closer to the connection points of electrical appliances.

You should be aware that the best option for repairing damaged sections of electrical wiring is to completely replace the damaged section from the junction box to the outlet or switch. But this work often requires chasing and damaging finishing materials - tiles, wallpaper, decorative plaster, etc.

Some people connect damaged wires or cables by simply twisting them together and then wrapped with duct tape.

But doing so is wrong and unreliable.- due to the lack of reliable contact at the junction, the twist oxidizes over time and begins to heat up!

You can restore or increase the electric wire yourself , here it is important to remember that splicing is permissible when only wires from the same metal are in joint contact with each other. Only in the terminal block is it permissible to connect copper and aluminum conductors, since in it the wires do not directly touch when connected. In other cases, do not twist or crimp copper with aluminum together, since these two metals begin to oxidize upon contact with each other, with the loss of electrical contact over time.

If you have the electrical wiring in the switchboard is connected to the RCD or Dif-machine, which are triggered by a current leakage from the mains, then it is necessary to very carefully and reliably isolate from each other not only the phase and zero connections, but also the ground conductor.

The best option would be to use shrink a tube that is previously put on the wire, and after the wires are connected or extended, it is put on the junction and heated with a lighter, gas burner or a special hair dryer.

The tube shrinks when heated and securely seals.

Electric cables with a cross section of 4 or 6 square millimeters connect to the electric stove by soldering.

If a one or two wires broke off in the junction box for the installation of switches and sockets, but there are at least 1.5 centimeters of tips left, then I advise you to build up the wires using the terminal block (on the left in the picture below), strip the wires, insert them one at a time from both sides and tighten with a screwdriver. Fast and reliable. But if there is not enough length, then you will have to break the section to the box for building up a new cable section to the socket. The connection procedure is similar to repairing a broken cable.

Welding of cores is carried out using a special factory-made apparatus.

Always connect two cables according to the corresponding colors of the cores to each other. This will help you properly connect the ground wire to the outlet.

Step-by-step instructions for repairing a broken or cut electrical cable or wire.

  1. In panel houses the easiest way is to pull the damaged cable out of the channel and replace it with a new one from the socket to the junction box, because in the panels the wiring is stretched inside the pipes - no grooving is required.
  2. In other cases, need to break a section of the wall along the cable or wire at least 15 centimeters in both directions and with a margin of depth so that the insulated connection is hidden in it. Attention be careful, do not re-damage the cable.
  3. After that cut and clean, but at different distances, so that the bare connections are not opposite each other.
  4. We put on cambric or heat shrink tubing on wires of the same cross section and metal as the damaged area. We connect them together using welding, crimped sleeves, soldering or self-clamping terminal blocks.
  5. We stretch the heat shrink on the bare areas of the joints and heat it.
  6. We take high-quality electrical tape with good elasticity and stickiness and rewind each wire individually, if heat shrink tubes were not used. Self-clamping terminal blocks have good electrical insulating properties, but it still does not hurt to additionally wrap them with electrical tape at the connection points where the solution can get inside the electrical clamps.
  7. Observing

Modern technologies have led to the fact that today almost every home has Internet. The World Wide Web has become an integral part of our daily lives. The main and most common way to connect to the Internet is through a local area network. The computer is connected to the Internet using a network cable. There are situations when the cable is not enough to move the computer to the right place. You can read about how to build an Internet cable in this article.

How to extend the wire: 3 options

It is very inconvenient to use the Internet when there is no possibility to move freely. Many build up a network cable to make using the Internet more comfortable. There are several easy ways to extend the cable.

One of the ways to extend the Internet cable is to buy a special patch cord and a joyner (twisted pair connector).

When buying, it is important to pay attention to the appearance of the joyner, as it is very similar to a phone adapter. It will not be difficult to distinguish a twisted pair, since the adapter has 8 pins, while the telephone adapter has only 7. A computer network card is inserted into the patch cord, the other end of the cord is connected to a network cable.

Internet cable extension options:

  1. Router. Convenient and reliable extension option. The router has a couple of sockets to which you can connect a network cable. Router - "splitter" of the Internet. It allows not only to extend the cable, but also to connect additional devices to the channel. You can refuse the cable altogether if you purchase a Wi-Fi router.
  2. Purchasing a new cable. The old cable can be replaced with a new one by simply measuring its length beforehand. This method is time consuming, as you will have to call a technician to reconnect. But if we are not talking about a multi-storey building, but about a private one, then the method is quite suitable.
  3. Performing a twist. Masters do not recommend using this method. It involves cutting the cable, and then inserting an additional piece of the required length into it. Two segments must be connected with electrical tape.

Twisting can lead to short circuits, which will lead to a disruption in the speed of the connection or the complete absence of the Internet. The most reliable and modern way to extend the cable is to use a router. If you are not sure that the self-lengthening attempt will be successful, you can always contact your Internet provider for help.

It often happens that the master interrupted the wiring, performing repair work. When working with a grinder or other tools, some may accidentally cut an electrical wire laid in the wall. Damage is indicated by sparks that appear, a power outage or knocking out traffic jams.

The fact that the wiring is broken is evidenced by broken sockets and the lack of lighting in the area that is located behind the damaged wiring.

The wires located in the installation box may also break. Often there is not enough length for their correct connection. It should be noted that experts advise not to repair one wire, but to replace the entire damaged area. Of course, this method is suitable for those who are not afraid of damage to finishing materials and are ready to make a new repair.

How to build an aluminum cable:

  1. Twist the ends of the cable if they are long enough. The twist must be wrapped with electrical tape. This method is the most unreliable, because the twist can break again, which will return the problem.
  2. A special heat shrink tube can be put on the ends of the wires. This method is suitable for connecting and extending any cable. In order to perform plantings correctly, the tube must be heated.
  3. All types of wires (copper and aluminum) can be extended using a block. The ends of the cable must be stripped, and then pick up the block.
  4. If the wires have broken off, they can be repaired using a spiral. It is screwed onto the ends of the wires. After the desired density is reached, you need to make the insulation of the wires.

Extending a twisted-pair cable does not require special skills, and if done correctly, it can even be reliable. When twisting wires, you need to follow the rule of one level and insulate each individual connection. An interesting method is the displacement of joints made by twisting or soldering.

5 ways: how to extend the wire in the outlet

Sooner or later, everyone is faced with the fact that the wiring breaks. Long service life of the wiring leads to damage or breakage of the wires. Wires can be damaged in the most unpredictable places.

Often, wire breakage occurs when connecting sockets (very often this happens with aluminum wires).

The electric cable in an apartment or house can be extended independently. To do this, you need to make sure that the cores of the conductors that are spliced consist of the same material (it can be copper or aluminum). There are five simple ways to help solve the current problem.

Five ways to lengthen the wire:

  1. Adhesive pads. With their help, you can build up and connect electrical wires. This method is suitable for connecting conductors with various metal conductors.
  2. Connecting pads. Their use lengthens the block.
  3. Twisting lived. The damaged end of the wire must be at least 30 mm, then the splicing will be reliable.
  4. Soldering. To do this, you need a welding machine. This method is suitable for building conductors with a large cross section.
  5. Sleeves. This is not a very convenient way, which takes a fairly large amount of time.

The twisting method is the most common. It is used to repair headphones, TV, refrigerator, electric stove, etc. When doing work yourself, it is important to remember safety precautions.

If the cable is not long enough to put the TV in a convenient place, you can extend it yourself. It will be quite difficult to completely replace the cable. Of course, you can use an extension cord, but there are times when this is not possible. There are several basic ways that you can choose based on personal knowledge and skills.

You can use a TV extension cable, an adapter, or get ready to work with a soldering iron and soldering.

When purchasing an additional TV cable, it is important to pay attention to its brand. To connect two cables, you will need plugs, wrapping and an adapter. It is important that the plugs are correctly sized.

Lengthening Tips:

  • Cut the cable sheath lengthwise a few centimeters.
  • Unscrew the shell in the opposite direction and remove, where the incision begins.
  • Bend the aluminum screen.
  • Screw the wires, which already have plugs, to the adapter.

This scheme can be used to extend the cord for a stove, electric kettle, etc. A broken cord can always be repaired. To extend the wire, it is desirable to use a terminal. But when performing work, it is important to strictly observe safety precautions. To splice several wires, you must first learn the technology of extending the wires. You can also build up the power cable yourself, for this you need to use an extension technique. In order to prevent damage to the floor during repair work, you can lay a sheet on the floor.

Instructions: how to build an Internet cable (video)

Modern man cannot imagine himself without electronic devices. In everyday life, he uses a computer, TV and other devices that run on electricity. It often happens that a computer or television wire is not convenient enough to use, since its length is small. This introductory article showed how to extend the wire. It is important to understand that incorrect actions can lead to equipment failure. Sip can be increased in several ways - each master can choose the most convenient for him.

Twisted-pair Internet cable has firmly entered our daily lives. Like everyone around us, the cable sometimes fails. A typical situation when working with a twisted pair network cable is when there are only a few meters left to the connection point, and the cable is literally a couple of meters short, either your pet enjoyed the cable from the provider with pleasure, or the cable is easily damaged during repairs or simply by negligence. In such cases, the twisted-pair cable must be extended or spliced.

Many services and craftsmen will come to your aid. But this problem is quite possible to fix it yourself, saving time and money. Consider 4 ways to lengthen the Internet cable with your own hands.

Joyner and patch cord detachable connections

This option is simple, accessible to most audiences and does not require special knowledge. To extend the length of the cable, we simply purchase a patch cord and the necessary special sockets and RJ-45 plugs (joyner). Such computer connectors are sold for a small price in almost any office equipment store.

It is worth recalling that an ordinary telephone adapter and the RJ-45 twisted-pair adapter itself are practically indistinguishable in appearance - so be careful not to confuse. As a rule, the telephone has 7 contacts, but in our case, that is, the computer 8 can be counted upon purchase.

The most significant drawback is special equipment (crimper) for crimping connectors, and these are additional costs. And the contact area is smaller compared to the following methods, and reliability, service life and tightness are not at the highest level.

This technique is widely known in almost all areas where the cable is used. The method is available to everyone who confidently holds a knife and electrical tape in their hands, while providing good reliability. In time, such a build-up may well serve the entire service life of the cable itself. Speeds up to 100 Mbps are maintained in sections up to 100 meters, as well as on entire cable sections.

Often twists are made at the same level, and each posting is isolated separately. However, there is a more reliable wire connection technology. It is very common among telephonists, system administrators, installers, etc., people who often face the question of how to lengthen an Internet cable with their own hands. The main idea is to connect the cable at different levels to eliminate the possibility of contact between the stripped wires.

It is necessary to release about 10 centimeters of the cable from the outer sheath. A split nylon thread is provided inside the cable, so it is quite enough to make a small incision, find the thread and then use it to clean the sheath. The same procedure must be done with the second piece of cable. The sheath cut along the cable should not be finally cut off, we will use it again when the connection is ready.

We clean each wire of twisted pairs by about one centimeter, not forgetting to make sure that, according to the location of the twist, they cannot touch each other. Stripping the wires will require patience and accuracy, the main thing is not to cut the copper wires. Also, one should not neglect the folk wisdom “Measure seven times, cut once”, it is better to strip the wires gradually after you finish the next twist. If you still do not have enough experience in stripping cores from insulation, it makes sense to practice on an unnecessary piece of cable.

We apply the two stripped ends of the wire crosswise and twist with our fingers. It turns out something like a "pigtail". When connecting copper wires to each other, it must be remembered that both wires must be twisted together. And it is not permissible for one of the wires to remain straight, and the second twisted around it. After we have made the twist, bend it in half and press it with round-nose pliers to ensure mechanical strength.

It is advisable to insulate each twist with an insulating tape for greater reliability and tightness. Next, the wires are laid in the sheath of one of the cables and covered with the second. To give strength and a finished look, we tightly tighten the junction with an insulating tape and the work is ready.

Twisted pair cable extension and soldering

This method is the most reliable, especially for radio mechanics, and is available to many. However, it is necessary to have experience in soldering. If the place of the planned connection is far from the current source, for example, the attic of the house or the entrance, and there is no way to use an extension cord, a mobile soldering iron will come to your aid.

Before splicing twisted pairs by soldering, we prepare the cable in the same way as when splicing twisted pairs by twisting (see above). The only difference is that the wires do not have to be twisted, it will be enough to hold them next to the cable overlap of 5-6 millimeters. Or you can make hooks at the ends of the wire and hook them together for further convenience when soldering.

The soldering process itself requires accuracy from the performer, since it is easy to damage neighboring wires with a heated soldering iron.

After soldering, we will insulate the wires for greater reliability. Then we fit the wires into one of the outer shells, and cover the second one on top. We isolate the junction with insulating tape for greater tightness and a better aesthetic appearance.

The considered methods can be applied not only to a twisted-pair Ethernet cable. The same principles of building and extending are suitable for a wide variety of cables, whether it is stranded or solid wire for a wide variety of applications.

Internet cable extension router

This method of building is also quite convenient and practical. By connecting a router, you can connect an unlimited number of laptops, computers, etc. to the global network. (but still within reason).

To extend our Internet cable by this method, we will need to purchase the router itself and a necessarily crimped twisted pair (Internet wire) of the required length. If necessary, you can buy a ready-made crimped piece of such a cable; in some cases, twisted pair is crimped in a specialized store. But even if not, then you can easily crimp the twisted pair cable with your own hands.

Now the Internet cable should be connected to the WAN port (Internet port) of the router, and directly crimped twisted pair to a simple LAN port of the same router and then to your laptop or computer. It remains only to carry out simple router settings, after which you can use the network without problems as before.

In our age, every apartment, house, and some have dachas have Internet access. Connecting to the World Wide Web has long become the norm and a vital necessity, and now I am writing these lines, sitting at a table in the garden. The main way to connect to the Internet now is the provider's local networks, which are physically connected to our computer or laptop using a network cable - an eight-wire twisted pair.

Often there is a situation when the computer needs to be moved to another place, and the network cable may not be enough for this move. How to extend the Internet network cable so that it lasts to a new place?

Option one - joyner and patch cord

This method is simple and reliable. To increase the length of the cable, we simply buy a patch cord (see the figure) and an RJ-45 twisted pair connector, or joyner. These computer little things are sold in any store, and they cost mere pennies - when I bought them quite recently, the joyner cost 22 rubles and a three-meter patch cord 60 rubles.

By the way, a telephone adapter and an RJ-45 twisted-pair adapter are outwardly indistinguishable - so do not confuse. The telephone has 7 contacts and the computer has 8 - you can count just in case.

So, we insert the patch cord into the computer's network card, and the other end into the joyner, to which we connect our network cable - everything works.

Option two - router

This extension option is convenient and no less reliable.
To connect using the second method, we need a router that we connect to the Internet. The router has several sockets for connecting a network cable, and thus is a kind of "splitter" of the Internet. With it, we will not only extend the cable, but will also be able to connect additional devices to the Internet from one channel. If you choose a Wi-Fi router, then you won’t need cables for your computer at all - I recommend it for a laptop that is constantly moved from place to place.

Option three - new cable

Simply take a new network cable of the correct length and plug it in. The option is not entirely convenient, since you need to call the provider's technician to include a new cable in the equipment - you won’t climb into the attic to look for where your apartment is connected, right? But for homeowners, this method is suitable.

Option four - twist

I must say that lengthening the network cable with a twist is far from the best solution, and it is better to use the methods indicated above. You simply cut the cable and insert the length you need, insulating the wires with electrical tape according to the colors. Any signalman will point out to you the disadvantage of this connection method, and he will be right - short circuits will inevitably occur in the twist and the connection speed may suffer.

So use reliable and simple methods - a router or a connection using an RJ-45 adapter, and Internet access will remain the same quality as it was.
