Choice of construction and design

Glamorous pink plastic tube laptop stand

The manufacture of furniture begins with the choice of design and the variant of its design implementation. It is necessary to build on the function that the furniture will perform. Then select the design parameters:

  • collapsible or solid;
  • dimensions of the entire product;
  • the number of elements and their sizes;
  • method of connecting parts of the structure.

What materials are needed

Necessary materials for creating furniture from PVC pipes

After the design is selected, it is necessary to draw up a list of materials and tools needed to create crafts. For this you may need:

  • plastic pipes;
  • fasteners: glue, screws, self-tapping screws;
  • fitting.

Stages of the plastic pipe welding process

Plastic pipes are easy to cut. After that, a sharp edge with burrs remains, which must be cleaned. Just cut the thread. When heated, polymer pipes bend well, retaining a new shape after cooling. Sometimes the frame is easier to bend than to assemble with pieces of pipes and fittings.

Plastic pipes of various shapes and fittings for them

There are several types of plastic pipes. All of them differ in price and ability to withstand various loads and temperature conditions. Knowing the properties of each type of pipe, you can make the best choice and save.

They are divided by purpose:

  • plumbing
  • sewer.

Variety of types of plastic pipes

From the point of view of the manufacture of furniture and useful household appliances, sewer pipes, unlike water pipes, benefit from a lower price. They are made in large diameters.

According to the type of polymer from which the pipes are made, they are divided into:

  • polyvinyl chloride (PVC);

PVC pipes of different diameters and colors

  • polyethylene (PE);

Polyethylene pipes of large diameter, straight and corrugated

  • polypropylene (PP).

Polypropylene pipes and fittings

They differ slightly from each other in properties. Polyethylene behaves worse at elevated temperatures and under the influence of sunlight, it is elastic. Polypropylene pipes are more durable and rigid. The positive quality of PVC pipes is increased resistance to chemical attack and reduced flammability. They tolerate ultraviolet exposure very well. The difference in the performance characteristics of polymers in most cases will not be critical for the manufacture of furniture. But the difference in price is a factor that should be taken into account. The most expensive are polypropylene. PVC pipes have the best price-quality ratio for creating furniture structures.

In addition, pipes are reinforced and non-reinforced. Polymer pipes are most often reinforced with fiberglass or aluminum. The reinforcing layer is soldered between two polymer layers. This is done to increase strength, rigidity, and reduce linear expansion when heated. Reinforced polypropylene pipes are used for hot water supply. The letters RC are added to the designation of the reinforced pipe. In appearance, they can also be distinguished. In addition, some manufacturers apply a colored strip along the pipe, informing about the scope of the product. Pipes with a blue stripe are used for cold water supply, with a red stripe for hot water or pipelines with a coolant. The presence of both bands indicates the versatility of the pipe. It should be borne in mind that reinforced pipes, although stronger, are much more expensive. Make a decision on the advisability of additional costs to the master.

What tools to use

In order to update your interior with crafts from plastic pipes with your own hands, you need a minimum amount of tools:

  • hacksaw or special scissors for plastic pipes;
  • pencil or marker;
  • roulette;
  • file;
  • special soldering iron for plastic pipes;
  • drill.

Do not interfere with gloves and goggles. Despite the fact that working with PVC pipes is not dangerous, shavings fly when sawing, sharp edges remain. In order not to damage your hands and eyes, it is better to use protection.

Either from a desire to save money, or from an overabundance of imagination, our people have learned to benefit from those objects and things that a pedantic European would have sent to a landfill long ago. Greenhouses are built and palm trees are made, cute garden figurines are made of, and any garden furniture can be assembled from. Scraps of plastic pipes left after repair can also be used to good use. They make the simplest decorative things, beds, chairs and even greenhouses - there is a huge scope for imagination, and we have collected only the most interesting ideas for crafts from plastic pipes that can serve as a guide to action or a source of inspiration.

Pipe connection methods

Plastic pipes are like designer parts. By combining segments of different lengths and connecting them at different angles, you can get anything: a beginner will be glad that he built the simplest hanger, and a professional will easily assemble a bunk bed. The main thing is to be able to connect the pipes correctly, and then it will be possible to do any thing necessary in the household.

Plastic pipes are a collective name, and which are made from polymers. The greatest demand is and. Segments of different lengths and diameters remain after the repair of engineering networks in an apartment or in a country house, and, as a rule, they are cluttered in pantries, or rather cluttered, until enterprising craftsmen began to use them for other than their intended purpose. Plastic pipes are characterized by low weight, high strength and durability, they are easy to maintain and safe.

Polypropylene pipes are connected using a special welding machine. It is expensive - it is more profitable to rent it, and it will take a little time to learn how to work with it. You can use compression fittings to connect. In any case, the assembled product will be non-separable.

When it comes to plastic pipe crafts, usually refers to PVC pipes, which can connect with each other in the following ways:

  • socket connection with rubber seal. Manufacturers supply socket pipes with a rubber seal located at the end, thanks to which pipe connection work is carried out simply and quickly, and the joint is sealed. At the first stage, the socket of one pipe and the smooth part of the other are cleaned of dust and dirt. A chamfer is removed from the smooth end of the pipe (an angle of 15 degrees, chamfering cutters can be used) and a mark is applied indicating the depth to which the pipe will go into the socket. The sealing ring of the socket and the smooth part of the pipe are lubricated with a silicone compound and inserted one part into the other, focusing on the mark. For plumbing and sewerage, this is a good connection, but if you are assembling shelves or furniture, then it is not rigid enough. The main advantages: simplicity and the possibility of dismantling, therefore, such a connection is used for the construction of temporary buildings and things;
  • adhesive connection. The ends of the pipes to be connected are chamfered (some just sand the surface), then marks are made indicating the depth of the fitting. The ends of the pipes are degreased with methylene chloride, then the adhesive is applied with a brush to the pipe and inside the chamfer or socket. The pipe is inserted into the fitting (or socket), rotated ¼ turn for better distribution of the adhesive, then the elements can be pressed for 30-60 seconds. It is desirable to carry out all work quickly. The remaining glue is immediately removed, and the connection is allowed to dry for several hours. The process is more laborious, but the joint is more reliable;
  • flange connection. Separate sections are connected using special fittings. Before performing work, the ends of the pipes are cleaned. A flange is put on the cut, then a rubber gasket, onto which the flange is pushed. The elements are connected by means of bolts with a counter flange. Then the bolts are evenly tightened, due to which the alignment of the flanges is achieved. The connection is reliable, the design is collapsible.

When the technology for connecting plastic pipes has been mastered, we can assume that almost any craft can be done. It is only important to draw a sketch in advance or make a drawing, and correctly calculate the length of all segments. You can build anything from such parts - we will list only some ideas for crafts from plastic pipes with our own hands.

No. 1. Organizer

The most unpretentious way to use the remains of plastic pipes. You can take pipes of small and medium diameter, even segments of small length will fit. The first option is a mobile organizer. It is enough to cut segments of different heights and glue them together in an arbitrary order or following some pattern (for example, one higher segment in the center, the rest around it). Such a stand is suitable for storing office supplies near the desktop or for organizing all kinds of bolts and other fasteners in the workshop.

The second option is stationary. On the one hand, the pipe must be cut at an angle (the most popular option is 45 degrees, but it can be less if small elements are stored). Then the cut elements are attached to a vertical surface using. You can mount the organizer elements on a wall or a specially installed board.

No. 2. Decorative frame or partition

Thin rings, which are easy to obtain when cutting plastic pipes, are a versatile material for creating decor. You can use pipes of different diameters - it's even more interesting. Plastic rings make a wonderful frame. It is enough to draw a layout of the future product on paper in advance and glue individual rings directly on it. From them you can get both a strict symmetrical pattern, and something chaotic. If you then paint it, then such a frame for a mirror or a picture can hardly be called a simple craft - it will be a cool designer thing.

Similarly, you can get a decorative partition. Gluing, of course, will take a little longer, but the effort is worth it. The partition will look very interesting, weigh a little and come in handy, for example, to delimit zones in the bathroom.

No. 3. Shoe rack and wine bottle holder

There are a lot of options to organize the storage of clothes using plastic pipes, and all these crafts are quite simple to implement.

No. 8. Rack for living room, hallway, pantry

By connecting several pipe sections in the required order, you can get a practical and inexpensive rack that will fully satisfy your needs in terms of size, shape and configuration. It can be both quite modest in size, and a real giant. If the rack is located in the living room, then the pipes can be painted, and glass or plywood can be used as countertops. When it comes to or a workshop, there is no particular need for decoration.

No. 9. Football goal

If the summer cottage has, then you can build a small football goal. Only a few connections will need to be made, but before that, of course, everything will have to be carefully calculated and measured. When the frame is ready, a mesh is put on it, and the gate is ready. When the kids grow up, the product can be disassembled, and the pipes can be reused to create other crafts.

Similarly, you can make a small children's playhouse. We all once loved to build huts, gather there with a company and play. It was especially cozy and mysterious. The frame for the house of pipes is made elementary. Children will only have to throw a thick fabric over it and enjoy their own little castle.

No. 10. Arena for children

There is nothing complicated in the design of the playpen. However, the finished product in the store is not cheap. A budget alternative is available to those who have a decent amount of plastic pipes in stock, the time and desire to learn how to connect individual segments into a single structure. For manufacturing, you will need a lot of pipes, so home craftsmen advise you to just buy them in a store - it will still turn out cheaper than a ready-made arena, and the pipes can then be reused.

After the arena scheme has been created with an indication of its dimensions, pipes are cut. Vertical partitions are interconnected by short horizontal sections of pipes at the top and bottom. However, variations are possible in the design of the arena.

No. 11. Chairs made of plastic pipes

Here you will need already confident skills in connecting individual pipe sections. Depending on your desire and degree of preparation, you can make a simple children's stool, as well as a comfortable chair for adults, or even an armchair. After the frame is ready, the seat is made. It can be woven from thread, rope, or use a dense fabric. Then you can put soft pillows on top. Having mastered the manufacturing technique, it will be possible to build almost all the furniture for a summer residence.

No. 12. bunk bed

Yes, it is quite possible to assemble a frame for from ordinary plastic pipes. Not only supporting elements are made of pipes, but also a ladder, and, of course, lamellas under. The level of complexity here is increased, it is better to take up the work for those who have already tried their hand at making simpler crafts. Do not neglect drawing up a drawing and scrupulous measurements.

A bed made in this way will be a real godsend for a country house of a small area, because not everyone can afford to buy a ready-made bunk bed for the dacha, but somehow it is necessary to solve the placement problem.

No. 13. garden arch

How beautiful the arches entwined with plants and flowers look in the garden. The main difficulty in making a garden arch from plastic pipes is that individual segments will have to be bent. The easiest way to give the necessary shape to the pipes is with a gas burner. A separate section is heated to a state where the material will succumb to deformation, then it is given the necessary shape. Someone decides not to bother and just connect several pipe sections at an angle. Then the upper part of the arch will resemble a trapezoid or a polygon in shape. Between the two arched vaults, horizontal elements are attached so that in the future the arch will be as much as possible covered with greenery. Do not forget to securely fix the structure in the soil.

No. 14. Alcove

Building with plastic pipes is much easier than anyone can imagine. If you take long enough segments, then you don’t even have to connect anything. Two pipes of the required length are arched and fixed to the ground. The distance between the elements of the future frame should be such that a dining table or other items fit. It remains only, and everything is ready.

The design of the gazebo may be slightly different, resembling a house in shape. In this case, you will have to connect individual elements.

No. 15. carport

The design itself is simple, but the difficulties can be associated with a decent size of the canopy, because it must be wide and high enough so that the car can safely hide under it. The frame is assembled with special care, fastened to the ground and to the adjacent wall, if any, covered with a dense awning fabric on top, which will protect the car from the scorching sun and rain. To call this product a handicraft, even the tongue does not turn - this is already a small architectural form.

No. 16. Greenhouse

A small greenhouse is done elementarily. You will need a few pipes, there will also not be very many connections. After the frame is assembled and fixed in the ground, it remains only to cover it with agrofibre. It will be possible to make such a greenhouse in just a couple of hours, and the benefits from it will be huge.

No. 17. Greenhouse made of plastic pipes

A full-fledged build, of course, is more difficult than a greenhouse. It will take a lot more material, and it will take a lot of time. The size of the greenhouse can be almost any. The procedure is as follows:

From pipes, you can make a frame for a greenhouse of almost any shape, but the arched one remains the most preferable.

No. 18. seedling containers

If in the country every square meter counts, then it's time to implement the idea of vertical gardens. Thus, it is convenient to grow greens and some berries. Scraps of plastic sewer pipes will make excellent containers if you cut holes in them in advance for seedlings and the outflow of excess water. It remains only to fill the soil containers and place the vertical beds one above the other. You can attach them again to the stand of plastic pipes. Some connect the beds with ropes and hang them from the wall - there are many options.

To toys for children, thus saving a considerable amount of money.

From this article you will learn what you can do with your own hands to build a plastic PVC pipe. The technology of manufacturing forged products from profile pipes will also be considered.

Article content

Products from plastic pipes

Plastic PVC pipes have exceptional performance - they have low weight, high strength, resistance to deformation and aesthetic appearance - you do not have to paint homemade products, because visually they will look great.

When working with PVC pipes, you will need to connect individual segments to each other, which requires the use of tees, couplings and crosses. Pipes and fittings can be joined by soldering (a special soldering iron is required) or glue. It is better to use glue, because it is easier to work with, a good composition is Tangit (costs up to 200 rubles per tube weighing 125 grams).

Making a practical PVC chair

A chair made of plastic pipes can be used in the house, in the country or in. It is quite convenient, and the cost of pipes for its manufacture will cost you 3-5 times lower than buying a finished factory product.

To make a chair with your own hands, you will need:

  • PVC pipes with a diameter of 30-35 mm (length depends on the size of the chair)
  • plastic tees - 8 pieces, corner couplings - 4 pieces, - 4 pieces;
  • glue for PVC pipes;
  • plywood, foam rubber and upholstery for seating.

Manufacturing technology:

  1. According to the selected dimensions, PVC pipes are cut into sections of the required length. You can take the dimensions of the structure from the furniture already used at home.
  2. Legs are made - tees are installed in the center of the rack, load-bearing pipes are installed in them under the seat, and corner couplings (90 0), armrest pipes are inserted into them and the constituent structural elements are joined together.
  3. The back of the chair is connected to the legs by means of fittings. Cross jumpers can be made straight or curved, in the latter case, you will need to heat the PVC pipe over an open fire so that the plastic acquires sufficient plasticity.
  4. A seat made of plywood or solid wood is attached to the pipes with the help of self-tapping screws, foam rubber is nailed to it with a stapler and the seat is sheathed with leatherette or fabric.

Forged profile products

Special mention deserves forged products from a profile pipe, the manufacture of which is carried out by master blacksmiths. With the use of artistic forging can be performed:

  • forged gates and gates;
  • fences and barriers;
  • , railings, bars on windows;
  • furniture and interior items;
  • forged decorative elements - chandeliers, candlesticks, art installations.

If you want to make forged products with your own hands, you will need to take a course and acquire the required equipment and tools, which include:

  1. Forge - a source of open fire for heating metal. There are forges that run on solid fuels (wood, coal) and gas. The cost starts from 20 thousand rubles.
  2. Anvil - a working surface for metal processing, the mass of which can reach up to 300 kilograms.
  3. Impact hammers are an extensive class of equipment, including: rolling, chisels, trowels and sledgehammers.
  4. Forceps for fixing the workpiece;
  5. Welding machine, grinder.

There is also a technology of “cold” artistic forging, the essence of which is the processing of steel blanks on special press machines, in which the products are given the required shape. Almost all forged gratings, gates and factory production are made by this method.

The initial cost of cold forging machines starts from 250 tr. The production of forged structures can become a profitable business, such products are widely in demand on the market - 1 m 2 of forged ones costs from 15 thousand rubles.

After construction and repair, there is always a lot of waste, most of which has nowhere to adapt. However, some garbage is not at all useless - for example, you can make simple and comfortable furniture from plastic water pipes that will organically fit into the industrial interior of your home.

In the country, such household items are good because they are easy to assemble and disassemble, and because of their small mass it is not difficult to carry them from place to place.

Advantages of plastic crafts

Is it worth bothering with PVC pipes when you can buy simple furniture in any store? Of course, it’s worth it, because it will not only bring satisfaction from working with your own hands, but also make life easier.

Products made of polypropylene pipes have many advantages:

  1. Do-it-yourself assembly takes a little time and does not take much effort - both a young mother and even a teenager can cope with the work.
  2. Pieces of furniture made of plastic pipes are very light, which will not cause difficulties when rearranging.
  3. Rigidity - pipes withstand a sufficiently high load.
  4. Resistant to aggressive conditions, thanks to which products can be safely placed outdoors.
  5. Wide scope for design ideas - it is easy to make simple chairs for a summerhouse, a small wardrobe, a children's bed or a playhouse for kids from PVC.
  6. Low cost - if a young family is just getting on its feet, you can not spend money on expensive furniture and assemble it yourself from polypropylene water pipes available to everyone.

What do you need to make furniture?

Assembling PVC furniture with your own hands is not at all difficult - you will need a minimum set of tools, basic skills in working with them and a little creativity. The result is sure to be comfortable chairs, armchairs, shelves and even tables - the range of possible products is limited only by your imagination.

The assembly process will take no more than an hour for each item - and this includes design. By the way, in order to quickly figure out how to form a particular piece of furniture, on our website you can see a variety of photographs of plastic products. For example, the photo above shows a very convenient and stylish rack for books and magazines, and when supplemented with flat shelves, other items can be placed on it.

The minimum set of necessary tools is as follows:

  • roulette;
  • marker;
  • hacksaw for metal.

Other items that can be found at any summer resident may come in handy - a file for smoothing cuts of plastic pipes, a drill, a soldering iron. But the level, for example, is not needed - all parts, as in the assembly of ordinary water pipes, will be connected with special fittings - it will not be possible to deviate from the desired angle with all desire. Because of this feature of PVC products, separate fasteners are not needed - screws or glue.

Important: despite the fact that working with products made of polypropylene pipes is very safe, you should use protective equipment - goggles and gloves.

furniture assembly process

In general terms, the assembly of household items from polypropylene pipes is no different from any other work with this material. You should develop a project for the future product, select PVC pipes of suitable length and diameter, and you can start assembling with your own hands.

Let's analyze the technology using the example of assembling a simple chair for a summer residence - such as in the photo above. The process will consist of just a few steps:

  1. Pipes of suitable size are selected; if there are none, you can cut off the excess from too long plastic elements.
  2. With the help of suitable fittings and a soldering iron, the frame of the product is assembled.
  3. The soft seat will increase the comfort of using the chair. To make it, you need to take a piece of not too thick plywood that is suitable in size, put a square of foam rubber on top of it, which is then covered with a thick cloth. It should be larger than plywood so that the edges can be fixed with a stapler under the seat.
  4. The seat is fixed on the frame with self-tapping screws.
  5. If the furniture is still not comfortable enough, you can make a soft back in the same way.

Of course, the chair can have almost any shape. If you take PVC pipes of a larger diameter and bend them with a blowtorch, then attaching them to the legs from below, you can get a rocking chair. By extending the seat, you can get a comfortable and waterproof deck chair made of plastic pipes, which does not have to be constantly dried.

Other pieces of furniture are assembled in a similar way - clothes dryers, laptop stands, table frames and much more. The design can be very different, and you can improve it a little more by painting the resulting product. For this, it is best to use acrylic paint - it looks bright, has many shades and does not deteriorate when cleaning furniture.

Plastic items without fittings

There is no need to make crafts from water pipes in such an industrial style. You can come up with products that will have no less functionality, but for the assembly of which neither fittings nor a soldering iron are needed.

So, from scraps of pipes of different diameters, you can make a convenient organizer for various little things - office supplies and similar useful little things. To do this, PVC pipes are cut at an angle and the cut end is screwed to a board that can be fixed to the wall. You can simply arrange the pipes on the surface of the table - in any case, you get a very convenient fixture, as in the photo above.

In the same way, you can make designer details of almost any piece of furniture. There are excellent options for plastic beds and coffee tables - a large number of polypropylene pipes of the same or different diameters are fastened close to each other, and a hard sheet of plywood or other even material is placed on top of them under the mattress, and in the case of a table, you can immediately install the countertop. One of the options for such a bed is in the photo below.

All pipes must be threaded at the end.

1 x 1540 mm;
- 2 x 1000 mm;
- 4 x 930 mm;
- 2 x 880 mm;
- 2 x 530 mm;
- 7 x 350 mm;
- 4 x 120 mm.

In order to connect them together, you will need:

2 couplings;
- 8 tees with internal thread;
- 4 squares of 90 degrees;
- 8 flanges for legs.

Wooden slats are required for the bed:

16x40 mm;
- 10x10x2000mm - 2 pcs. (transverse);
- Wooden slats along the length of the bed, directly for the bed.

Additionally:

Wrench;
- Rubber gloves;
- Colorless varnish.

Manufacturing instructions

Pipeline preparation

Since the galvanized pipes that make up the bed frame will stain bedding and rust over time, protect them with clear varnish. Just do not varnish the threads, otherwise the pipe connection will give you a lot of trouble.

Assembly

Connect the pipes together, gradually moving towards the head of the bed. It is best to immediately attach the legs, so that later you do not suffer with them. After the connection is completed, you can varnish the frame again.

Wooden slats

Place wooden lamellas on a metal frame, distributing them in such a way that the distances between adjacent ones are equal. When each is in its place, turn the structure over so that the boards are on the floor and the metal pipes are above them. Arrange the third tier of this "sandwich" transverse boards and secure them. If they are too long, cut off the excess.

Try

For the legs, pipes with double-sided threads were used, so screw the stainless steel flanges onto the bottom edge so as not to spoil the floor and the floor covering.
The bed turns out to be strong enough, you can not be afraid if children decide to jump on it.

headboard

If you decide to make a headboard, then cover both pipes and wooden boards with colorless varnish.
