DIY chandeliers from laser discs. Do-it-yourself lamp from disks. We make a metal lattice and a sphere from disks

Do you have old CDs gathering dust at home that have long gone out of mass use? Do not rush to throw them away, but rationally use them for creative purposes. This is a wonderful material from which you can make many useful things for your home that you did not even know about. And if you have a lot of them, then it's even better. Today we will tell you how to make a lamp out of disks with your own hands, spending money only on consumables. Following our step-by-step master classes, you can easily make an original bright table and a picture from CDs.

How to make a lamp from disks?

If you have a burning desire to make an unusual chandelier from CDs, then follow all the steps in our master class one by one, and you will definitely succeed.

Materials:

  • CDs (about 1000 pieces).
  • Cut out circle from fiberboard.
  • Steel wire (5 meters long).
  • Electrical connector (12 pieces).
  • Lamp holder.
  • Electric wire.
  • Switch + plug.
  • Fluorescent lamp.
  • Rubber feet (about 3 pieces).
  • Silicone transparent sticks (2 pieces).

Instruments:

  • Drill.
  • Pliers.
  • Screwdriver.
  • Glue gun for silicone.
  • Wire cutting pliers.
  • Simple pencil.
  • Compass.
  • Ruler-triangle.

The list is impressive, but believe me, it's worth such an excellent result. Now let's figure out how to apply all this to make a lamp out of disks.

Preparatory stage

In order to start making a CD llama, here are some helpful preparation tips:

  • Before starting work, you need to collect all the prepared parts together and check if all the tools are available. If suddenly you find that something is missing, do not panic - basic materials and tools can be found in every home. Other parts can be purchased at your local hardware store.
  • To make such a lamp, you will need a lot of disks. If you don't have that many, then take them from your friends, work colleagues, or classmates. We think they will only be in favor, as many people want to get rid of unnecessary “trash” that is a pity to throw away. Therefore, do not be shy, but ask - you need it for a good cause.
  • The size of the connector must correspond to the diameter of the steel wire - it must freely enter the connector hole.
  • You can buy a pre-assembled lamp socket kit with electrical wire, switch and plug. If you have not found such an option, then make it yourself, relying on your design preferences.

Important! Please note that the electrical wire must be at least 2 m long. It is better to buy more than to waste time on an additional trip to the store.

  • Any fluorescent energy-saving lamp is suitable for work, the power of which you choose yourself.
  • Buy only transparent silicone so that the place where the material is glued together is not visible.
  • To work, you need to buy 2 of the largest sticks.

We make the bottom

When you have checked the readiness of materials for work, you can begin the main process of making a lamp from disks:

  1. We take a circle of fiberboard and, using a compass and a ruler, divide it into 12 equal sectors. We connect the division points to each other in order to mark the center where the cartridge and steel wire will be inserted.
  2. We firmly fasten the rubber feet to the bottom.
  3. Using a drill, we drill holes for the cable.
  4. We cut off 6 pieces of steel wire with pliers, which should be at least 1 meter.
  5. We bend each piece of wire with pliers or a vice.
  6. Now the entire structure made must be attached to the bottom of the future lamp. We fix the rubber feet with suitable bolts and a screwdriver, fix the cartridge in the central hole of the circle made of fiberboard.

Important! At this stage, do not forget to insert the lamp into the socket, as the discs will then block access to the socket. The cartridge must be exactly in the center of the lamp. If it is shifted to the side, then put it in the correct position.

We make a metal lattice and a sphere from disks:

  • We fix 6 arcuate pieces of wire by inserting the ends into the hole in the base.
  • We wrap the arcs with our hands or tools to the desired shape. In the end, we should get a design in the form of a sphere.
  • With the help of wire cutters, we cut off the excess edges of the wire, we get a grid of 12 wires in the form of a spherical dome.
  • Now we are engaged in stringing disks. We fill with disks first 6 occasions, which are located near the center. We seal the place between the wire and the disk with silicone from a glue gun. We perform such manipulations until the stacks of disks are 6 cm in height.

Important! You can leave the first 5 layers of disks off so that you can easily change the light bulb later.

  • When we finished stringing the disks on 6 rods at the base, we string further on 6 wires along the edge of the structure, alternating the disks with each other. We must have all 12 metal wires strung.

Important! Each placed disk must lie on two adjacent disks. Make sure that the sequence of their correct imposition on each other is preserved, so that they fit evenly and symmetrically.

Lamp top:

  • When the disk stacks have reached 26 cm, we wrap each metal end towards the center of the structure, cutting off all excess material.
  • Now, pinching the edges of the wire, divide the circle into 12 equal sectors. On each of them we mark 2 points for installing an electrical connector for the cable. As a result, you should get 24 holes.

Important! Remember to make sure the holes fit your connectors.

  • In order to pull out 12 connectors, we disassemble the connector.
  • We collect the top of the structure. We put the connectors on the wires and fix the topmost disk on the top using bolts and a screwdriver.

Everything, the lamp from CDs is ready to use! Now you can turn it on and enjoy the pleasant subdued lighting!

Important! If you want to make a multi-lamp lamp, then you need to connect the lamp to a double switch, where the wires from all the bulbs will be collected in one strand in three twists. One wire must be connected to zero, and the other two to the two remaining wires.

How to make a picture "Orca" from CDs?

Why not make pictures from disks with your own hands? Now we will tell you in detail how easy it is to issue one of the options. In this master class, everything is described in more than detail, so you will not have additional questions.

So, we will need:

  • Three-layer cardboard or a piece of plywood.
  • CD discs and their boxes.
  • Stationery knife.
  • Scissors.
  • Ruler.
  • Pliers.
  • Watercolor and stained glass paints.
  • A drawing printed on a printer or drawn by hand.
  • polymer glue.

We begin to create a picture “Killer whale” from disks:

  1. Decide on the size of our painting. For example, let's take a diameter of 50 cm. After that, we take cardboard of a suitable size and draw two circles - a large and a small one inside it. In our case, the outer diameter of the circle is 50 cm, and the inner diameter is 43 cm. The resulting rim will serve as a frame for the future picture. The inner circle can be cut both at this stage and a little later - it's up to you to decide.
  2. Now we are looking on the Internet for a suitable drawing depicting a killer whale in black and white, print it out on a printer and carefully cut it out. We put the image in the inner circle to check the size.
  3. We draw a killer whale on cardboard and cut out the blank.
  4. Since we will use a mosaic for our picture, it is necessary to lay out the parts of the disks in random order, leaving gaps, and then fill in the voids with stained glass paints.
  5. We lay out a mosaic of disks. We take a black box from a CD and cut out the strips with a clerical knife to get separate pieces. Using pliers, we break off parts from the black packaging and stick them on cardboard, forming part of the killer whale.
  6. In the same way, we cut out the belly of the killer whale and paint it with white paint.
  7. Now we need to make the sea - the background of the picture. We take the disk in our hands, cut it into two parts with a clerical knife. Now it is clearly seen that the disk surface consists of three layers - two outer transparent coatings and a foil in the middle.
  8. Next, you need to separate the layers of plastic to get two. The foil must remain on each of the layers of the disc. From this layer we will lay out the mosaic.
  9. With a clerical knife, cut a part of the disk with shiny foil into parts of different sizes and shapes.
  10. We paste the mosaic sea around the killer whale, filling the entire diameter of the circle.
  11. Stained glass paints fill the voids between the mosaic. Do not be afraid that the paint will be a little different color after drying - this is completely normal.
  12. Using table napkins, we glue the protruding edge so that the cardboard is not visible.
  13. On the edge of the whole picture we glue the black pieces of the disk box. As a result, you should get a black rim around the mosaic sea.
  14. We cover the gaps between the black parts of the rim with paint.

That's all, a gorgeous picture from the disks is ready! Now you can hang it on the wall and admire your creation!

BUTTERFLIES UNDER YOUR CEILING

The Latvian weather is so changeable that it is very difficult to wait for a real spring. It seems to be spring, but it is cold and chilly. Therefore, we suggest that you act on your own and create an atmosphere in your soul and in your home. For example, make a lamp out of butterflies with your own hands.

You will need (see photo):
Round lampshade of an old lamp with 2 circles.
Pliers, scissors, decorative chain (in stores for construction, artists or needlework)
Silver paint spray - 2.49 ls (K-Rauta)
Fine marker - 0.50 ls (K-Rauta)
Silver wire - 0.99 per 9m coil (K-Rauta)
Transparent plastic material - 2.10 per sheet (SIA Kviller)

We fill the old lampshade with silver paint from a balloon and leave it to dry for one day. It can be another color that fits into the interior of our room. Now we draw or find a suitable butterfly on the Internet or in a magazine (it can be something else - a cloud, a bird, a flower). We cover the drawing with a sheet of plastic and circle it around the contour with a marker. We repeat this as many times as we want butterflies on our lamp. Then we cut them out. Some of the butterflies can be filled with an aerosol of the same color - they will stand out from the crowd and even more with this particular color will be combined with your interior, which already has this tone.

For each butterfly, cut off decorative chains 10 cm long. In some chains, using pliers, you can insert transparent beads. They will shine and shimmer when the sun comes into the room. With the help of all the same pliers and wire, we attach the chains to the butterflies on one side and to the lampshade on the other. The lamp is ready, it remains only to attach it to the ceiling. When you open the window and let in a fresh breeze, a flock of butterflies will come to life.

To make the lamp even more in line with the style of your room, use one piece of plastic, from which a butterfly has already been cut out, as a template, and use the same spray to place butterflies wherever your heart desires - on furniture, candlesticks, photo frames, mugs.

Thanks to the development of new technologies, such drives as CDs are gradually becoming a thing of the past, replaced by flash drives and memory cards. Most PC users have a huge amount of disks left that will never be used. In order not to just throw away unnecessary discs, they can be used as material for various crafts. One of these products can be a do-it-yourself chandelier from disks.

Chandelier design

To make a high-quality and beautiful chandelier, you will need 12 discs with a double mirror layer. Of the tools you will need and drills, pliers and wire cutters. The discs can be connected to each other using brackets, for which any soft wire or paper clips are suitable. As a source of illumination, a 220-volt electric light bulb is used, screwed into a standard cartridge and suspended on a standard mount. The cartridge is connected to the circuit with a cord and a switch. For the manufacture of high-quality chandeliers, it is necessary to perform a number of mandatory operations.

The sequence of manufacturing a chandelier

  1. To accurately drill holes, you need to prepare one disk as a stencil. To do this, the disk is divided into five equal sectors, and then, retreating from the edge of 5 mm, five holes are drilled with a diameter of 2 or 3 mm.
  2. You need to put the required number of discs in the storage box. A stencil is laid on top and the first hole is drilled through it, passing through all the disks. For fixation, a match or thin wire is inserted into the hole. On the opposite side, another hole is drilled, which is also fixed. After that, all other holes are drilled.
  3. The lamp holder is installed in the first disk, in a standard hole that does not require expansion.
  4. To fix the disks together, you need to prepare mounting brackets in advance, in the amount of 30 pieces. Approximately one paper clip is used for three staples. They are made with wire cutters and pliers.
  5. The luminaire is assembled sequentially, with the help of brackets inserted into the hole and bent from the inside. Bracketed discs should be held completely free of other CDs.
  6. Before fixing adjacent disks, an electric lamp is installed inside the lamp. Lamps work best, although they don't produce sharp enough shadows.
  7. After fixing the last disks, the lamp can be installed in a pre-selected place.

How to make a paper lamp

A few years ago, CDs were actively used for data transfer, but today they are almost completely a thing of the past. Nevertheless, with the help of ingenuity and the simplest engineering skills, you can create fantastic things, including household lamps from disks with your own hands.

There is nothing difficult to complete all the steps on your own. Discs are extremely easy to process, as the material is flexible and pliable. Moreover, on the Internet you can find a huge number of ready-made schemes that can be easily supplemented and create a truly unique work of art. Building your own lamp has never been so much fun.

What lamp format can be created?

Many engineers are interested in what can be done from banal CDs. The answer may shock, but it is absolutely truthful: everything that is enough for imagination. The shiny side can be used as a reflector for a garland, chandelier or personal lighting lamp.

In order to make a lamp out of disks, you will need a number of tools and additional spare parts, which can be easily purchased at a specialized store:

  • actual disks;
  • some wire;
  • electrical tape, hot glue;
  • LED strip or lamp housing;
  • power plug;
  • engineering set.

As practice shows, every man has everything necessary to make such a craft. There is some possibility that do-it-yourself home-made lamps from disks may not work the first time, but do not despair - you will be able to find a mistake or defect, fix them and get a working device.

Main stages of work

So, if you want to get a truly unique lamp, you should start by creating the body of the future device. You can shape it with hot glue, but working with thin discs is problematic. To solve this problem, most often several dozen CDs are glued together to get a heavy case.

Then, a power cable is passed through the main hole, it is stripped and a lamp socket is attached to one of the ends. You can connect these elements both with the help of modern plastic fasteners, and by soldering them together. Nevertheless, it should be understood that high-quality insulation of the connection is required in order to exclude the possibility of electrical injury.

Remember that the discs should be positioned with their shiny surface towards the lamp as it acts as a reflector. Due to this, the light becomes brighter and more saturated, so it becomes possible to use sources of lower power - the result will be the same.

A power plug is attached to the free side of the cable, which can be mounted using solder or a mechanical method. Modern technologies make it possible to refuse solder, but the decision remains with the engineer. After that, the simplest lamp from CDs is ready.

As you can see, there is nothing difficult in creating a unique lamp with your own hands. Try, use your imagination and look for information on the Internet to surprise not only guests and loved ones, but also yourself, as each such product can perfectly complement your interior design!

How to make a lamp from laser discs?

Today, plastic discs are massively out of use.

Naturally, the question of their disposal came close. However, it is a pity to simply throw them away, especially since there is the possibility of their quite rational use.

Today we will talk about how a beautiful chandelier can be created from disks with your own hands. Using discs with their reflective surface for just such purposes is a self-evident solution.

What do you need to make a chandelier out of discs?

For the simplest do-it-yourself disc chandelier, you will need a dozen discs with a double-sided mirror layer.

From the tool it is worth stocking up with a screwdriver.

Drill 2-3 mm, wire cutters and pliers.

For the manufacture of connecting brackets, you need any kind of sufficiently soft wire; you can use paper clips well known to everyone.

As a source of illumination, a 220-volt electric lamp is optimal, with a minion cartridge and an equally standard mount to the suspension.

The cartridge is connected using a wire with a built-in switch.

Of course, you can try to make a multi-lamp lamp and connect the chandelier to a double switch, but for a not too experienced home craftsman, such work can be difficult, although you can try.

In principle, it is possible to create a multi-lamp chandelier from discs with your own hands by assembling it on a frame of several single-lamp lamps, preferably from three, and then connecting this chandelier to a double switch.

How to make a stencil disc for a chandelier from a CD?

At the first stage, you will need to prepare a stencil disc for drilling holes for the staples. With a protractor, you need to measure five sectors with angles of 72 degrees and, at a distance of 5 millimeters from the edge of the disk, drill five holes up to 3 millimeters in diameter.

Then you need to lay the discs intended for use in the CD storage reel.

Through the stencil superimposed on top, all discs are drilled through. A guide made of a match or thin wire is inserted into the resulting well. Four more holes are drilled in the same way.

Guides are necessary to prevent displacement of disks relative to their neighbors. A lamp holder is mounted in the first disk.

There is no need to expand the existing hole in the center, by the way, in addition to the “minions”, simple standard cartridges can also be used.

How to fasten discs for a chandelier from a CD?

To fasten the disks, you will need to prepare three dozen mounting brackets. They should have a "P" shape, dimensions 8 by 10 by 8 millimeters.

One paper clip is enough for three staples. Work is carried out with pliers and wire cutters. When all preliminary work is completed, the actual assembly of the chandelier begins.

Prepared staples are inserted into the holes along the edges of the discs and bent inward with pliers.

What lamp to install in a chandelier from disks?

The lamp is installed even before the adjacent disks are fixed. If you want to get sharp themes, you should use an incandescent lamp, but with a power not exceeding 25 watts.

The use of a more powerful lamp threatens to melt the plastic from which the disks are made.
