The tallest buildings in the world. Five world record-breaking buildings

People are sometimes ready for amazing deeds, just to get into the most famous directory of achievements on the planet - the Guinness Book of Records. But not everyone can spend millions and billions of dollars on the architectural embodiment of their ambitions. Nevertheless, many record-breaking buildings have been built in the world, glorifying their creators and owners.

The heaviest building and largest parliament in the world

The Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, built when Romania was a socialist republic, breaks several records at once. It is the largest administrative building, the largest parliament building and the heaviest building in the world. Its construction took 700 thousand tons of steel and bronze, 3.5 thousand tons of crystal glass, 1 million cubic meters of marble, 900 thousand cubic meters of wood of various species and 480 thousand cubic meters of concrete.

The height of the building located on a hill is 86 meters, but its underground part is even larger - it goes 92 meters deep. The length of the main facade is 270 meters, the side side is 245 meters. There are more than a thousand rooms in the palace - halls for receptions, meetings and negotiations, numerous offices, service rooms, restaurants.

The construction of the Palace of Parliament began in 1984 by order of the President of the Socialist Republic of Romania, Nicolae Ceausescu. In order to clear the construction site, a fifth of the historical center of the city was destroyed, and during the construction of the palace, such a shortage of marble arose in the country that even tombstones were made from other materials. Construction and finishing work continued after the overthrow of Ceausescu in 1989, but they have not yet been fully completed.

The largest building in the world

One of the most impressive building records has been set in China, which has been known throughout history for its penchant for megalomania. Now, in addition to the largest architectural monument - the Great Wall of China, as well as the most extensive palace complex in the world - the Forbidden City in Beijing, the Celestial Empire can boast of the largest building on the planet. It was The New Century Global Center, which opened last year in the city of Chengdu, the administrative center of Sichuan Province. The giant structure is 100 meters high, 400 meters wide and 500 meters long. On an area of 1.7 million square meters, there are numerous offices, shopping centers, two five-star hotels, cinemas, a water park with its own beach, a world-class ice rink, a university complex, and even a stylized Mediterranean village.

The building is built in the shape of a sea wave, its interiors are also reminiscent of the seas and oceans: even a full-size pirate ship is built here. In the center of the complex there is an artificial beach with an area of 5,000 square meters, above which a giant screen stretches, equal in height to the American Statue of Liberty, and tropical sunrises and sunsets are reproduced on it. The whole complex is illuminated by its own "sun" - the largest artificial lighting system in the world, made in Japan.

The tallest building in the world

The title of the tallest building on Earth has been held by Dubai's Burj Khalifa skyscraper for seven years now. Having overtaken competitors during the construction process, after its completion in 2010, the giant building reached a height of 828 meters. The 163 floors of the Burj Khalifa house offices, shopping malls, the Armani Hotel and numerous apartments. The world's highest restaurant is open on the 122nd floor, and the highest observation deck is on the 124th floor, at a height of 452 meters.

Especially for the weather conditions in Dubai, where temperatures can reach +50 ° C, a special type of concrete mix has been developed that can withstand such high temperatures. During construction, concrete was poured only at night, adding ice to it. Tinted glass thermal panels, which are lined with the building, reflect the sun's rays and reduce the heating of the premises. At the same time, the air inside the building is not only cooled, but also flavored with a fragrance specially created for the Burj Khalifa. The Dubai skyscraper is also famous for having the highest top floor and the tallest elevator.

The building with the largest slope

One of the most extravagant records belongs to a building built in another emirate of the UAE - Abu Dhabi. The Capital Gate skyscraper is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the building with the largest slope in the world. It deviates from the vertical axis by 18 degrees, which is 4.5 times more than the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. In accordance with the name, which translates as "Gate of the Capital", the building is located at the entrance to Abu Dhabi and is one of the highest in the city (its height is 160 meters). The 35 floors housed a five-star Hyatt hotel and premium offices.

During the construction of Capital Gate, many of the latest technical developments were used. On 490 piles, which go into the ground to a depth of 30 meters, there is a mesh of reinforcing steel. 728 diamond-shaped glass panels are fixed in it at special angles. For the first time in the Middle East, diagonal mesh technology has been applied here, which allows you to absorb and redirect the force of wind and seismic pressure. An unprecedented angle of inclination was achieved due to the fact that the plates of the floors of the tower, starting from the 12th level, were located with gaps from 30 to 140 centimeters. The most expensive building in the world

The construction of Capital Gate cost $2.2 billion, but the record for the cost of construction belongs to another structure. The most expensive building in the world is the Marina Bay Sands hotel complex in Singapore. According to various estimates, its construction (including the cost of the extraordinarily expensive Singaporean land) cost between 4.7 and 8 billion dollars. The building was built as a resort with a luxury hotel and the most expensive casino in the world with 1,000 gaming tables and 1,500 slot machines.

The unique building consists of three 55-storey towers 200 meters high, on which there is a huge terrace in the form of a gondola with an area of 12.4 thousand square meters. According to the architect Moshe Safdie, he used the image of a deck of cards when designing the building. The design of the building is approved by Feng Shui masters.

Marina Bay Sands offers 2,561 hotel rooms, a museum, an exhibition hall, two theatres, seven restaurants, and two ice rinks. On the upper terrace there is a 146-meter swimming pool overlooking the city, an observation deck that can accommodate 3900 people, restaurants and a nightclub.

The tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, which reaches an incredible height of 828 meters. In the Western Hemisphere, the Freedom Tower holds the palm. Here you will learn a little more about tallest buildings in the world.

Tallest Buildings in the World: Freedom Tower

List of tallest buildings in the world looks like that:
1 Burj Khalifa (828 m);
2 Warsaw telemast (646 m) - collapsed;
3 Tokyo SKy Tree (634v)$
4 Shanghai tower (632 m);
5 TV tower KVLY-TV (629 m).
….
9 Freedom Tower (541 m)
10 Ostankino tower (540 m).
Let's take a closer look at some of them.

World Trade Center 1 or Freedom Tower is a luxurious building that adorns New York, which also adorns. It is considered the tallest building in the city, the country and the entire Western Hemisphere. Its height reaches 541 meters. Antennas and reflective windows become an interesting feature. World Trade Center 1 has 69 floors dedicated to office space. They are located office space, panoramic platforms, all kinds of restaurants and cozy cafes.

And now an interesting video about tallest buildings in the world.

An unusual application was found for the high antennas of the building. They are used as a radio tower. Under the building itself is an impressive shopping center. In total, the Freedom Tower has 104 floors. At 100, 101 and 102, you can visit amazing panoramic platforms that offer a picturesque view of New York and an opportunity to see it in all its glory.

The construction of the tower began in 2006. This was not done by chance. The task of the designers was to copy the height of the twin towers, which were destroyed. Now the Freedom Tower has a similar height for them. Interestingly, the project to create such a skyscraper was developed back in 2002 by Daneile Libskind. However, for a long time it was corrected and modernized. And only after approval did the construction process begin.

Tallest building in Russia

Many are interested in which building is considered the tallest in Russia. To date, this title belongs to the Federation Tower, which is located in Moscow. It is part of the complex of the Moscow International Business Center. Sergey Tchoban and Peter Schweger worked on the architecture of the project. And the construction was entrusted to CJSC with the same name "Federation Tower".

Today the complex has two towers. They are united by a single stylobate. This is the East Tower, which has a height of 95 floors. It was this building that was awarded the title of the highest in the country and in Europe back in 2014. The height of the tower itself is 343 meters, and a massive spire still rises to 374 meters. At the end of 2015, the construction and final glazing of the building were fully completed. The second tower of the complex was the building "West". It reaches 63 floors and 242.4 meters in height. The construction of this building is fully completed.

Burj Khalifa is Dubai's main attraction. This is one of the world's record-breaking structures, located in the United Arab Emirates. Firstly, the tallest building ever created in the history of mankind, secondly, the building with the largest number of floors, and, finally, the most expensive building in the world.

And it would seem something completely unheard of and unseen, if the Emirates had not surprised the world before, erecting the largest singing fountain, the most prestigious area with the largest artificially created beaches and canals, the most exclusive metro and much, much more, the most diverse and unusual. The skyscraper rushes up to 828 meters, the number of floors of the building is more than 160. And the total cost of the building is more than one and a half billion dollars. By the way, controversy and rumors surrounded the Burj Khalifa all the time before the opening of the skyscraper. About the height, for example. Initially, it was assumed that the project of the tower with a height of 705 m would be a modified project of the Australian "Grollo Tower" (560 m). Project managers said that the height would in any case be more than 700 m (that is, the Burj Khalifa, after completion of construction, will in any case become the tallest building on Earth). In September 2006, rumors about the final height of 916 m, and then even 940 m, got into the society. But still, the final height was 828 meters with 163 floors (not including technical levels).

The city of Dubai in the UAE, for many centuries it was a small trading port, where fish and pearls were mined in the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf. In recent decades, the wealth of the city has grown dramatically thanks to the discovery of oil and the desire of the rulers to turn Dubai into a business center. In 2003, two hundred skyscrapers had already been built or were under construction. And then the Emir of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid, gave a simple order - to build the tallest building in the world. The construction of the tallest building begins with the digging of a hole, a very large hole.

Several months have passed since Dubai-based developer Emaar signed a contract with Chicago-based firm SOM. Oddly enough, but this building does not have a foundation firmly fixed in the rocky ground. Here in the desert you will not find as much stone as in New York or other geological zones. We used hanging piles. These piles are screwed into sand and soft rock, and their bearing capacity is provided by the diameter and length. These are 45-meter piles, about one and a half meters in diameter. In total, we screwed in about 200 of these piles, says one of the architects of the project.

The project for the construction of a skyscraper provided for the construction of the so-called "city within a city" - its own parks, boulevards, and lawns were provided for on its territory. The total cost of the tower construction project amounted to about one and a half billion dollars.

The author of the Burj Khalifa tower project was an architect from the United States, Adrian Smith, who had sufficient experience in designing similar structures. For example, Smith was directly involved in the design of the Jin Mao skyscraper, located in China, whose height is more than 400 meters. As the general contractor for the construction, the construction division of Samsung from South Korea was chosen, which had previously taken part in the construction of similar facilities, for example, the famous Petronas Twin Towers located in Malaysia.

The construction of the tallest skyscraper in the world was carried out quite quickly. Every week the building became 1-2 floors higher. After the 160th floor was built, concrete work stopped and the assembly of a giant 180-meter spire from metal structures began. The construction of the skyscraper lasted for 5 years.

According to the project, 108 floors are allotted for residential premises at once: 37 of them house a luxury hotel, and the rest of the floors are ordinary apartments. Although to call "ordinary" apartments built in the most expensive and highest skyscraper in the world, the tongue does not turn! As noted above, the Burj Khalifa skyscraper is absolutely autonomous. An equally large 61-meter turbine is used to provide energy for such a large-scale structure. In addition, numerous solar panels placed on the walls of the tower help to provide the building with energy.

Despite its size, the building is well designed and protected, so that in the event of a fire, a complete evacuation takes only about half an hour!

On plans to erect the tallest building in the world, Sheikh of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, first announced in 2002. The tower was to be a key element of the new district, designed to attract tourists from all over the world to Dubai. A Dubai-based company has become the developer of the tower Emaar, general contractor - South Korean Samsung Engineering. The tower was originally called Burj Dubai, from the Arabic tower Dubai, but the completion of the project coincided with the global financial crisis and Dubai was forced to seek help from the neighboring emirate of Abu Dhabi. In gratitude for the multi-billion dollar support received, the skyscraper was renamed in honor of the Sheikh of Abu Dhabi:“From now on, this tower will bear the name “Khalifa” – “Burj Khalifa”.

In the outlines of the foundation, the outlines of the desert flower of pancras are visible. This form facilitates the construction of buildings several hundred meters high. And when construction had already begun, lead architect George Estafio and his customer made a bold decision - to increase the height of the building from the original 550, which exceeded the Taipei tower (509.2 meters), the highest at that time, by only a few meters, and not just increase, but almost double.

After laying the foundation, the tower began to grow rapidly. On site, work went on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There were about 100 designers, architects, engineers, and up to 12,000 workers worked on the site every day.
Once every three days a new floor appeared. But the higher you go, the more problems. And the main one is the wind. It is impossible to build a single tower of such a height, a single shape. Then the effect of the wind will be too strong, the fluctuations will become too great.

The terraces were built according to a certain pattern, rising in a spiral. The shape of the building is asymmetrical. So the wind creates less vibrations of buildings and as it rises, the asymmetry changes, but also creeps up.
When you build the tallest building in the world, every centimeter counts. When pouring concrete, engineers needed to know where the center of the building would be, and with constant movement, it is not easy to calculate it. Contractor installed 3 different appliances GPS on the ground and another one at the very top of the building.
The exterior panels of the building presented a big problem for the engineers. Glass was supposed to reflect heat, but let light through. And it must also be water-wind and dust-tight. About 200 of these panels were required for each floor.

During the construction, the creators foresaw literally everything - from high temperatures in the Arabian sun to the angle of incidence of light in the premises of the tower. The building is equipped with special sun protection and reflective glass panels that reduce the heating of the rooms inside (temperatures in Dubai reach the mark of 50 ° C), which reduces the need for air conditioning. Well, for air conditioning in a skyscraper, a convection system is used that drives air from bottom to top along the entire height of the tower, and sea water and underground cooling modules will be used for cooling. Especially for the Burj Khalifa, a special brand of concrete was created - such concrete is heat-resistant and does not deform under the scorching sun of the United Arab Emirates. By the way, the skyscraper will completely independently generate electricity for its own use: for this, a 61-meter turbine rotated by the wind and an array of solar panels (some of which are located on the walls of the tower) will function.

The building project in full costs more than one and a half billion dollars - a huge amount, albeit for a country that is highly developed at this stage. Due to problems with financing the construction of the Burj Khalifa, the official opening of the skyscraper was postponed from September 9, 2009 (this date was originally planned - the date of the opening of the Dubai Metro) to January 2010.

The Burj Khalifa project was created on the idea of a "city within a city". The building is surrounded by adjoining roads, convenient parking spaces, private lawns, boulevards and parks. In addition, the skyscraper hosts independent sponsored entertainment for youth and business people. Again, a new site has been opened for business in the Khalifa building. In addition to the hotel, located on the first 37 floors, as well as luxury apartments between 45 and 108 floors, most of the floors are still given over to office areas and business premises. Spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned rooms for meetings and presentations today attract business people from all over the world, which brings Dubai once again to the level of the business capital of the world - since in almost every complex of buildings that open every year there is a corner, so to speak, investor. The 123rd and 124th floors are equipped with an observation deck. Thousands of tourists who come here every year say that the feeling is beyond words - it is so breathtaking and overwhelmed with surprise, how could a person create such a thing!

In Arabic, "burj" means "tower".

The creators of the Dubai skyscraper also claim that the distinctive feature of the building is the highest residential floor and an observation deck located on the 124th floor. In the skyscraper, which can be seen from a distance of 90 kilometers, 57 elevators of the world's fastest system move cabins at a speed of 18 meters per second. There is also an autonomous power supply system - a 60-meter wind turbine and huge solar panels. The tower has a modern design, but its architecture is also influenced by Islamic traditions.

According to the designers, the building is resistant to strong wind loads, and can also withstand an earthquake. "We were struck by lightning twice, last year we felt the echoes of a powerful earthquake in Iran. In addition, during the construction we experienced all possible types of wind. The results are good," Mohamed Ali Alabbar told the BBC. head of Emaar Properties, which built the tower.

Some of the apartments in the skyscraper were sold at a price of 24.3 thousand dollars per square meter, but now their value has fallen by about half. The project, which has shown resilience to natural disasters, has not remained unaffected by the global financial crisis. Leasing office space at the Burj Dubai will be particularly challenging, analysts say, as fewer companies can afford the luxury.

The opening ceremony of the skyscraper was timed to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the reign in the Emirate of Dubai of the current Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashed Al Maktoum, who came to power on January 4. In a ceremony, the Sheikh renamed the skyscraper, which was known as Burj Dubai during construction, to Burj Khalifa, dedicating it to the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. "From now on, this tower will bear the name of Khalifa - Burj Khalifa," he said.

Sheikh Khalifa is also the Emir of Abu Dhabi, who has provided Dubai with $10 billion in debt relief, including support for investment company Dubai World.

The long-awaited opening of the legendary building took place with fireworks and festive concerts. The event struck with an incredible scope - the public saw the promised fireworks, theatrical performances, as well as a laser show. The list of guests of honor invited to the opening ceremony included six thousand people. The rest were able to watch the tour of the building on huge screens installed in the streets or on TV. In total, the televised opening ceremony was watched by more than two billion people around the world.

From the first to the 39th floors of the building are occupied by the Armani Hotel. Above are office and technical premises, as well as individual apartments. In addition, there are special observation floors that serve as a high-altitude observatory. Special communication equipment is located in the 180-meter spire. Burj Khalifa (Burj Dubai) boasts 65 double-decker lifts. True, on the ascent up, or on the descent down, you will have to make several transfers. Only one technical elevator rises from the first to the very last floor. By the way, the Burj Khalifa elevator system is the fastest in the world, as elevator lifts reach speeds of up to 18 meters per second.

Here are some specifications of the Burj Khalifa:

January 15, 1943 started work Pentagon- the famous headquarters of the US Department of Defense, which has become the most largest office building in the world. Today we will talk about several objects from different countries, each of which is considered the largest in its industry on Earth. It will be about residential and factory buildings, shopping centers, airports, stadiums and other world record holders.

Built in 1943, the United States Department of Defense building is still the largest office building in the world. After all, its total area is 620 thousand square meters. The Pentagon consists of five concentric pentagons connected by ten corridors. At the same time, you can walk from one point of the structure to another in a maximum of 7 minutes.

Dubai is one of the largest aviation hubs in the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that it is here that the largest air terminal on the planet is located. Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport alone has an area of 1,713,000 square meters, making it the second largest building on Earth.

The Izmailovo Hotel in Moscow has been holding the palm among the largest hotels in the world for more than thirty years. This complex of five 30-storey buildings has 7,500 rooms and is designed for simultaneous residence of 15,000 people. It was opened in 1980 for the Moscow Olympics.

The New South China Mall was inaugurated in 2005, only to close a few months later. The huge building with an area of 659,612 square meters and designed for 2,500 stores turned out to be unnecessary for the residents of the poor and relatively small city of Dongguan by Chinese standards. Now it is mothballed in anticipation of population growth and living standards in the metropolis.

The Boeing Corporation owns the world's largest factory building. Its plant in Everett near Seattle has an area of 399,480 square meters. In addition to assembly shops, the building houses several catering establishments, an aviation museum, a souvenir shop and even its own theater.

It is unlikely that the people who built a huge airship hangar 60 kilometers from Berlin in 1938 suspected that they were creating the basis for the world's largest entertainment center. Nevertheless, it was here, in a building that had been empty for several decades, that the Tropical Islands Resort water park was opened in 2005. The total area of this building is 70 thousand square meters.

In 2012, the largest and tallest residential building in the world was commissioned in Dubai. The height of the 101-storey skyscraper Princess Tower is 414 meters, and the total area is 171,175 sq.m. There are 763 apartments and 957 parking spaces for residents and guests of the building.

The largest private house built for a single family is a 27-storey 173-meter building in the Indian city of Mumbai. It was built in 2010 by order of local billionaire Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in the country. This skyscraper has 9 elevators, a small theater for 50 spectators, parking for 168 cars, a spa with several pools, hanging gardens and many other wonders. The building has 600 employees.

For many years, the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, was considered the richest man on the planet, until Bill Gates overtook him in the mid-90s. But even now, the Asian monarch holds several world records, for example, the largest collection of cars or the largest palace on Earth. The residence Istana Nurul Iman has 1788 halls and rooms, three times more than that of the Queen of England. The total area of the building is about 200 thousand square meters.

The May 1st Stadium in the North Korean capital of Pyongyang has several records at once. For example, this is the largest stadium in the world, because 150 thousand spectators can gather in its stands at the same time. And this arena regularly hosts the Arirang musical and gymnastic show, which has a record number of participants. It is believed that about 100 thousand people are involved in this performance on a patriotic theme.
