The materials that are used for upholstery of sofas differ in purpose and properties. Therefore, before cleaning the sofa at home, you should pay attention to some features that will need to be taken into account when cleaning.

For jacquard, it is enough to apply a dry material with which you can gently remove the stain. This material is good in that it can be cleaned easily and effortlessly.

Flock can be cleaned with water, abundantly wetting the surface of the problem area, as well as using chemicals purchased at the store.

The tapestry can be cleaned either by dry cleaning or by washing the upholstery in a washing machine.

Faux fur is best vacuumed and not too damp. Problem stains on such upholstery must be removed with paper towels and napkins.

The soft upholstery of the sofa constantly collects dust and extremely quickly absorbs dirt, creating favorable conditions for the development of bacteria. Therefore, it is advisable to clean it at least once a month, even if it seems that it is clean and there are no stains on it. After the upholstery is rid of dust, crumbs, wool, hair, the air in the apartment will be cleared, it will become much easier to breathe, and it will be pleasant and comfortable to sit on the sofa.

How to clean the sofa upholstery depends largely on the material from which it was made. Usually it is jacquard, tapestry, leather, flock, velor and microfiber. Removable upholstery in the washing machine is not recommended, but almost all of these materials can be vacuumed at medium power using fine attachments. For fabrics such as velvet and velor this type of cleaning is contraindicated.

When cleaning the upholstery, the following information must be taken into account:

• Velor, velvet - a dry or wet brush is recommended for upholstered furniture, you can not vacuum it: this will damage the pile. Clean in the direction of the pile, if a soft brush is not available, dilute the soap in water, moisten a piece of cloth and wipe the material, then wipe with a dry cotton cloth.
• Jacquard, tapestry - dry cleaning is recommended, you can use a vacuum cleaner. Upholstery made of these materials will be well cleaned with foam: it can be obtained by dissolving a special detergent in warm water. Wash only in emergencies.
• Leather - can be regularly wiped with a damp piece of cloth, then wiped dry. It is advisable to remove stains immediately, as soon as they are on the coating, using special products. At the final stage, polish the skin with a special tool that protects it from dampness and dust. If there is no drug, you can beat the protein and wipe the surface with it.
• Microfiber - brush with soft bristles, vacuum cleaner;
• Flock - dirt does not adhere well to this upholstery, so it can be cleaned in different ways: with a washing vacuum cleaner, with chemicals. A solution of laundry soap cleans the sofa well from dirt: beat the foam and apply it to the upholstery, when the foam dries, you can vacuum it.

If wet cleaning is allowed, then at home you can use a washing vacuum cleaner: it will do the job very well. If it is not there, you can get rid of dirt by soaking a sheet in an vinegar solution (two tablespoons of vinegar and salt per liter of water) and covering the sofa with it. After that, take a simple furniture beater and knock it on the sheet, knocking out the dust. Water will collect dust, salt and vinegar will freshen up the colors.

How to remove stains from upholstery?

Stains from upholstered furniture should be removed as soon as they are detected: it is very important not to allow the liquid to penetrate deep into the fabric and gain a foothold (this is especially true for strongly smelling substances, such as beer). To do this, the stain on the sofa must be immediately blotted with toilet paper, a napkin, a piece of cloth, a kitchen towel.

The tool that decided to clean upholstered furniture at home must be checked on an inconspicuous area: the fabric may shed or deform. To do this, apply the drug to the material and wait until it dries, if nothing happens to the upholstery, you can apply it.

To avoid streaks, the stain must be removed by wetting a rag or sponge in a circular motion from the edge to the center, otherwise it may increase. Do not pour the solution all at once on contamination, add gradually, as you clean.

The easiest way to remove the stain at home is to use preparations specially designed for cleaning the sofa (it is forbidden to interfere with each other). To do this, dilute the product according to the instructions in water (if the pollution is too strong or the sofa is light, the concentration can be increased), beat the solution until a rich foam is formed, then apply foam (not a solution) to the upholstery with a brush for upholstered furniture, and start cleaning the upholstery with circular movements, carefully treating stains.

If there is no special tool at hand, pollution can be dealt with by folk methods: soap, vinegar, soda, salt, alcohol, ammonia.

Coffee Tea

To rid the upholstery of coffee or tea stains at home, it is enough to wipe the dirt with soap, then with a damp cloth. You can prepare a soapy solution: add a little detergent, two tablespoons of vinegar to a liter of water, wipe the contaminated area and dry with a dry cloth.

The juice

The juice from the upholstery must be removed as soon as it has spilled: once it is absorbed, it is very difficult to clean it out. To do this, mix vinegar with ammonia, moisten the stain, wait to dry, then rinse well with a sponge with warm water.

Beer

You can get rid of traces of beer on the sofa with a soapy solution (you can simply rub it with soap and remove the dirt with a damp cloth). The smell will be removed by table vinegar: for this, dilute three tablespoons of vinegar in a liter of water.

Wine

Once the wine is on the upholstery, it should be blotted with toilet paper, a tissue, or a damp towel. If there is a trace of red wine - sprinkle with salt, wait a while, brush and wipe with a piece of cloth soaked in alcohol. White wine can be treated with alcohol.

Chocolate and jam

Among the few stains that at home do not need to be removed immediately, but wait for them to dry, are traces of jam or chocolate. Fat

Blood

Cleaning upholstery from blood at home is easy if you remove it as soon as it gets on the material. To do this, it is enough to wipe the stain with cold water, dissolving laundry soap in it. Soap can be successfully replaced by adding dishwashing detergent to the water (1: 2, more water). Wash the sponge as it gets dirty, then moisten it again in the solution. When the stain is gone from the furniture, wipe it with a damp cloth.

To rid upholstered furniture of old blood stains, you can dissolve an aspirin tablet in a glass of water, soak a sponge in the solution and wipe the contaminated area.

If there is no aspirin, you can dilute a tablespoon of soda or salt in a liter of water, soak the stain and leave for an hour, then proceed to remove the contamination: moisten a piece of cloth in the solution and clean until the stain disappears, then dry with a towel.

After cleaning

After cleaning upholstered furniture with water at home, with a hair dryer or other appliances, you should not dry it: the upholstery should dry on its own. To speed up the process, you can blot the treated area with napkins or toilet paper.
