Frameless furniture: do-it-yourself bean bag chair. How to make a comfortable and original bean bag with your own hands Details of the pattern and placement on the fabric

You can sew a frameless bag chair filled with polystyrene foam balls with your own hands. The benefit of patterns of different shapes for these chairs on the Internet is a dime a dozen. I decided to sew for my daughter in the nursery.

DIY bag chair: materials used

  • The fabric for the inner cover (I used a regular duvet cover from a set of linen, which I don’t like at all), it is important that the fabric is breathable and smooth. The inner cover is needed so that the outer one can be safely removed and washed.
  • Fabric for the outer cover, I used furniture fabric, thermo jacquard (1.5 m * 3.5 m), if anyone is interested in where it was purchased in Chelyabinsk, this is a store Bel-Tex on the street. Kosarev. It cost me about 1000 rubles and a few kopecks. But quality, dense and funny colors. Just right for a bean bag chair in a kid's room!
  • 2 zippers: preferably 100 cm for the outer cover and 30-50 cm for the inner one.
  • Threads, scissors.
  • Sewing machine and pattern paper, but you can immediately build a pattern on the fabric (as I did).
  • Filler for pear chair (foam balls). I share information where they can be purchased in Chelyabinsk, next to the Shershni dam, there is a miracle company in the ring area, Thermoplastic, there you can buy these granules of 0.1 cubic meters in a bag.

Now, according to my own “bitter” experience 🙂, I’ll tell you how many such bags are needed. Initially, this pear chair was conceived in children's sizes, so I decided that two bags of 0.1 cubic meters would be enough, I sewed the inner cover according to the pattern below and ... OH GOD !! it turned out just huge, I could curl up in this chair, of course, these two bags were not enough for me and I went for two additional ones.

As a result, 4 bags of balls were purchased, 200 rubles per bag.

By the way, 4 bags of such balls will easily fit into a car, into an ordinary sedan, 2 go into the trunk with a whistle.

Pattern details and placement on the fabric

So, I give a pattern of a pear chair with the dimensions of the parts.

Also, like a decent lady, I made allowances for the seams, and it turned out well, very large. Here is a photo with an inner case and filled with 4 (!) bags of balloons. Of course, the photo on the background of the wall (with daughter's art 🙂) does not convey all scales, but still! Until she sewed the outer cover, my daughter came up with such an idea for herself: she pushed it to the sofa and jumped from it into this chair with a battle cry 🙂 When I sat in it, it gently enveloped me from all sides 🙂

I give an example of the location of the details of the pattern on the fabric:

While cutting out the details, I ran into a problem. How to draw a regular hexagon. I make it easy for you. To draw a regular rectangle with a predetermined side, we have it for example 10 cm (the side of the top of the chair). You just need to draw a circle with the same radius (10 cm).

Then make notches along the entire length of the circle - these will be the tops of our hexagon. Then we connect adjacent vertices and get the desired hexagon.

The sequence of sewing a pear chair with your own hands

  1. We cut out the details for the inner and outer cover from the fabric, I repeat once again, if you use this pattern with these dimensions, it is better not to make allowances for the seams.
  2. Details for outer case:
    • - 6 side wedges;
    • - 1 hexagon with a side of 40 cm for the base of the chair (depending on the location of the parts on the fabric, you will have it in one piece or consist of 2 parts);
    • - 1 hexagon with a side of 10 cm for the top;
    • - 1 handle for carrying the chair - a regular rectangle with dimensions of 5 * 12 cm;
    • - for the inner cover, all the same details of the pattern are used, with the exception of the handle for carrying the chair.
  3. If the fabric is loose, then it is better to process the sections of the parts on an overlocker (if any) or with a regular zigzag on a sewing machine.
  4. We take two side wedges, fold them face to face, grind 15 cm from the top and 15 cm from the bottom along the long side of the parts.
  5. We make bartacks at the end and beginning of the seams. We form a cavity for stitching a zipper.
    Attention: The length of these seams depends on the length of your zipper and the length of the side of the piece.

  6. Next, sew on the zipper.

  7. We take the next wedge, grind the side seams. All side seams are ironed and smoothed to one side. On the front side, we make a delay along each seam, capturing the smoothed allowances.

    This is how neat it should be.

  8. Now we will sew a handle for our bag chair. To do this, take the part, fold it in half along the long side, sew a seam on a typewriter.

  9. We turn it inside out, iron it so that the machine seam is in the middle of the part. We make a stitch on it.
  10. We sew the upper part of the bag, not forgetting to lay a handle for carrying the chair between the parts, smooth the allowances, and make stitching.

  11. Now let's start grinding the base of the chair. For convenience, open the zipper.

We sew the inner cover in the same way. Now the final part of our master class. And the most entertaining part of it: filling the inner case with foam balls.

Filling a frameless chair with styrofoam balls

It is important that the bag is filled to 2/3 of its volume.

Why entertaining?

Yes, because without skill these balls just do not fall asleep in a case, they strive to scatter around the room, stick to your fingers. In general, they behave ugly! In order not to have to run around the apartment later with a vacuum cleaner, I recommend taking an ordinary plastic bottle, for example, 1.5 liters. Cut off the bottom and top from it, so that you get a pipe. Slightly open the zipper of the case so that you can put a bottle through the hole and tape it to the case with tape! We attach the other end of the pipe with adhesive tape to a bag of polystyrene foam balls, in which you previously made a small hole, for example, in one of the corners. Check that there are no slits where these sticky balls could penetrate 🙂 Now we start pouring their bag into the case! The first bag, the second, the third ... We follow the filling of the cover so that it is not very stuffed and not strongly squeezed. After manipulating the foam granules, it remains to fasten the zipper of the inner cover tightly, put on a beautiful outer cover and fall apart in a hand-sewn bag chair. Let your household also love to spend time in it.

P.S.: I deliberately made my outer case made of thermo jacquard smaller so that it would suit more a child than an adult, so I had to pour the granules back into the bags. My husband undertook to do this, who did not see my machinations with a bottle, scotch tape and balls. Therefore, to the delight of my daughter, the balls rolled all over the apartment! 🙂 Not without adventure! Although the pear chair turned out to be smaller than the previously sewn inner cover, I still feel comfortable sitting and relaxing in it.

I hope my MK will be useful to you. I'd love to hear your feedback below in the comments!

Frameless furniture is compact, ergonomic, comfortable, and light in weight. Products are produced in different sizes, shapes, design solutions. The types of fabric used in the design differ (flock, velveteen, thermo-jacquard), fillers (polystyrene foam, polystyrene). You can make a bean bag chair with your own hands for decorating a bedroom, veranda, guest room, gazebo.

Chair features

The frameless chair has a soft structure, it is distinguished by the absence of a metal or wooden base. The standard form is round or pear-shaped, filled with small granules.

The design of the bean bag "Pear" includes:

  1. removable cover;
  2. internal basis;
  3. filler granules;
  4. decoration elements (stitches, inserts, handles).

Models for adults, a children's bean bag in the form of toys, a bag-ball, etc. have been developed. Products are produced in the form of a circle, rectangle, square, polyhedron. They produce transformable models that unfold into a bed, a small sofa.

Products are different:

  • comfort in operation;
  • security (the chair has no sharp corners);
  • ecological materials;
  • convenient transportation;
  • easy cleaning (removable covers are easy to wash);
  • compactness, ease of storage, etc.

What should be the size

The dimensions and dimensions of the chair in the form of a bag are divided into standard and non-standard (on order), for adults, adolescents, children.

A typical line of soft chairs is represented by indicators:

  1. L - reaches a height of 85 cm, in diameter - 70 cm, optimal for growth up to 120 cm;
  2. XL - up to 110 cm high, 85 cm in diameter, used for people up to 160 cm;
  3. XXL - reaches a height of 135 cm, in diameter - 100 cm, optimal for growth from 165 cm.

Height indicators are measured in a straightened, raised form, the width is determined from the maximum extreme points.

The easiest way to equip a room is to purchase universal models (XXL size with a seat height of up to 50 cm), products that are optimal for family holidays (furniture in the form of a soccer ball or fairy-tale characters).

Necessary tools and materials

Before you make a bag chair with your own hands at home, you need to prepare raw materials and equipment.

Useful for work:

  • fabric base;
  • 2-3 zippers;
  • filler;
  • tailor's scissors;
  • millimeter paper;
  • pencil;
  • ruler or tape measure;
  • strong threads for sewing;
  • sewing machine.

The choice of material for the cover

For the outer cover, a durable, wear-resistant, dirt-resistant, waterproof, eye-pleasing fabric is purchased. In accordance with the design of the premises and the functional purpose of the product (for home, summer cottage, gazebo), choose:

  1. Oxford;
  2. flock;
  3. thermo jacquard;
  4. scotchguard;
  5. microvelveteen;
  6. eco-leather, etc.

Oxford is a synthetic raw material, covered with polyurethane on the wrong side to protect it from dust and dirt. The composition is durable, waterproof, elastic, resistant to temperature changes, represented by a wide palette of colors. The fabric is practical, budget, does not require ironing, it is easy to wash, clean with a damp sponge.

The outer cover for the chair is made of thermo jacquard. The material is durable, distinguished by original combinations of shades, the use of ornaments. Heat treatment technology involves applying paint to the finished fabric. Raw materials are hypoallergenic, because. contains up to 65% cotton. Suitable only for interior spaces and gazebos.

Velor has a velvety surface, is durable, retains its shape, wear-resistant, does not wrinkle. The material is made from natural raw materials or synthetic.

Flock combines raw cotton and polyester. The material is durable, high quality, with a smooth texture, easy to clean.

Microfiber is composed of polyester and polyamide, is breathable, durable, chemical resistant, aesthetic, easy to clean and wash.

Microvelvet is suitable for using the chair at home. The material is of high quality, available in plain or with a graphic ornament. The fabric is made from cotton and elastane.

Faux suede refers to furniture fabrics, made from polyamide fiber, is resistant to abrasion, color fastness, easy care, a wide palette of shades.

Eco-leather is a dense wear-resistant material that retains the surface structure and is optimal for modern design. In the creation of raw materials, cotton and polyurethane are used (as a protective coating).

It is possible to use improvised materials. For a country house, a bean bag made of old jeans and raincoat fabrics is optimal.

The fabric for the inner cover must be strong, with a dense section of threads, breathable. Optimum spunbond, coarse calico, satin, polyester, etc.

Filler selection secrets

Before filling the bean bag, it is important to determine the composition of the raw materials for a product that fits perfectly into the interior. The service life and functionality of the furniture depend on the quality of the filler.

To create the internal volume of the product, apply:

  • expanded polystyrene;
  • Styrofoam;
  • holofiber;
  • shavings, woolen threads;
  • different types of cereals (buckwheat, rice);
  • dried herbs, etc.

Expanded polystyrene is produced in the form of circles, the material is practical, hygienic, does not retain odors, has thermal insulation qualities, is non-hygroscopic, affordable, hypoallergenic, does not absorb moisture. When choosing, experts recommend primary processing granules (they differ in a round shape, they are made from foaming polystyrene). The granules of the second stage of production are not symmetrical, quickly become unusable, shrink.

Polypropylene granules are durable, strong, allow the chair to keep its shape, and have shock-absorbing qualities. However, it is necessary to take into account the low resistance to fire.

Foam polyurethane elastic, hypoallergenic, retains its shape. The granules of the material are dense, therefore they are used in chairs sheathed in artificial leather, jacquard.

Styrofoam for stuffing is produced in the form of small balls. The material is light, budget, has a slight shrinkage, comfortable, soft texture, density. The shape of the foam balls is retained for a long time, but with prolonged use, the rigidity of the composition increases. It is recommended to add foam rubber or holofiber to the material.

Hollofiber particles are added to the fillers as a softening additive. The material is hypoallergenic, breathable and does not absorb moisture. The sizes of granules of different compositions must match in size.

What is filled with an easy chair depends on the operating conditions. It is important to take into account the observance of temperature and humidity. When using natural raw materials (cereals, sawdust, grass, etc.), it is necessary to maintain a warm temperature, avoid moisture, because raw materials can be damaged by mold.

How much filler is needed depends on the dimensions of the bag and the weight of the citizens who will use the piece of furniture. Many materials are sold in packs of 100 kg. About 400 liters of raw materials are needed to fill a chair with a size of 120 * 90 cm. During operation, it is necessary to add 40-50 liters in 2-3 weeks.

Master class on making a soft bag

Before sewing a bag chair with your own hands, you need to determine the dimensions, model configuration, and prepare a drawing.

The stages of product manufacturing also include:

  1. cutting elements;
  2. fitting of parts, sweeping;
  3. chair tailoring;
  4. ironing;
  5. filling covers.

Creating a pattern

The pattern for the chair is created taking into account the size, model of the piece of furniture. Standard schemes are used or author's ones are developed. You can make a pattern for the customer. Patterns are made taking into account seam allowances in accordance with the proportions.

Enlarged elements are transferred to a sheet of special paper (millimetric), cut out, laid out on a fabric base. It is recommended to place templates with dimensions on the fabric economically, taking into account the direction of the fabric section. Experienced craftsmen can make a bean bag chair according to a pattern on a finished fabric base.

Cover tailoring

After cutting the details, we sew covers. 2 pear-shaped blanks are created. The parts are connected with pins, then it is necessary to sweep the seams of the sidewalls. Sew the elements by hand or on a sewing machine. Parts of the structure are then smoothed with a steam iron.

Side seams are sewn on the main cover, edge wedges and connecting seams are folded and overcast. It is necessary to allocate about 40-50 cm for adding a zipper.

The inner cover is sewn in stages, up to 35 cm must be left under the zipper. The seams are ironed, treated with an overlock. Zippers are inserted into the segments, they are swept, adjusted, stitched on a sewing machine. It is necessary to make a handle that is attached to the long edge, ironed.

The blanks of the covers must be turned out on the front surface, smoothed. The top element is tucked into the bag and sewn on. The bottom is sewn into the covers. After work, the product is ironed.

Backfill filler

Before pouring the filler into the chair, you need to calculate the volume of raw materials. A package of at least 500 liters is required. The model has a fabric sleeve (width and height of 50 cm), closed with a zipper or an additional cover.

An open bag with raw materials is placed in the hole, carefully stuff the bag. The granules are light in weight, so the work is recommended to be performed by 2 people. An important point is the strong electrification of the material, which requires moistening the granules with water from a spray bottle.

With a narrow opening in upholstered furniture, it is necessary to use a plastic bottle with a narrowed part. The neck and bottom of the dishes are cut off. The edge of the plastic container is lowered into a bag with granular material, fixed with a fishing line. The other edge of the dishes must be lowered into the chair cover, secured with tape or rope, then pour the granules.

Finished product care

When cleaning the fabric base of an upholstered chair, it is important to consider the processing method:

  • cotton-based materials must be washed;
  • dense compositions (eco-leather, suede) are processed with a moistened cloth;
  • the chair and cover made of flock are recommended to be cleaned with a dry method;
  • when choosing the temperature mode of washing (cool, warm), the type of fabric base is taken into account.

The design of the furniture has no shape, therefore, over time, it loses volume (the granules are deformed, compacted). It is necessary to add new raw materials, mixing with the former. It is forbidden to place the product near heating devices.

What do you do with old furniture?

In recent decades, frameless furniture has gained popularity due to its light weight, ability to retain body heat, ergonomics, and benefits for the spine. Another feature of this solution for the interior was the simplicity of its manufacture. Even inexperienced tailoring people can do it. If you choose the right materials and filler, you can make a bean bag chair with your own hands in one day. Such an experiment will reward the owner with several bonuses at once: a new design object will appear in the house, the problem with a comfortable stay in a sitting position will be solved, the owner will gain experience and a sense of satisfaction from a useful thing created by himself.

Creative people who value comfort and individuality have come up with many design options for making a bean bag chair with their own hands. For example, there is an original solution when an easy chair is sewn in the form of an open glove, where the seat is a palm, and 5 fingers play the role of a back. But four forms have become the leaders of frameless seats:

  1. Pear - maximally reproduces the classic configuration options for upholstered furniture. The pear chair consists of 6 side elements resembling this fruit in shape, and two more parts - for the base and top with a hexagon contour. This model allows you to comfortably lean back in the chair, having good support for the head.
  2. The ball is most in demand by young men, sports fans. A baby bean bag for a boy can have the same shape, which is easy to make with your own hands from black and white pentagons sewn together. If you choose leatherette as an outer cover, then a soft ottoman will look like a big football attribute. Basketball fans construct a seat from two semicircular orange spheres with a dark stripe. What's more, fans can decorate their accessory with stickers or team name embroidery.
  3. A drop is an option that looks like a pear chair, but looks more futuristic. The side walls can be made in four or six pieces, resembling a teardrop but with a flat base. The bottom, respectively, is made in the form of a square or a hexagon. Due to the absence of the upper part (cover), the back of the soft chair looks like a cone, which is easy to hold and move the seat to another place.
  4. The oval is the last of the classic fashion solutions offered by factory designers. This chair is a bit like a bed, as it can be located in any position, even lying on your back. The shape corresponds to the name and consists of two large oval parts. A wide ribbon is sewn between them, which regulates the selected height for the pouffe chair.

The configuration of a frameless chair can be whimsical (in the form of an open flower, a crown or a funny animal - a penguin or a kangaroo), but the most important criterion will be the convenience of the process of use. The soft seat should not have hard folds, buttons or decorative elements that will create discomfort.

Materials and tools

To sew a bean bag chair yourself, you need to decide on the choice of materials and filler. In addition, you will have to pick up strong threads, as well as decide which fastener is suitable for the convenience of removing the cover.

It is better to sew an external cover for a bean bag with your own hands from practical material. After all, he will be subjected to regular pressure of body weight and often come into contact with clothing. For this, it is necessary to make two covers. The upper must be wear-resistant so that it can be washed and cleaned without compromising the internal filling. In addition, the material should not fade, stretch, shed or shrink when washed. You can determine how much fabric you need from the drawing after choosing the configuration. The inner cover is usually sewn from cotton or cheaper, but durable synthetics, since its function is to securely hold its shape. The ideal option would be polyester with a water-repellent impregnation.

The most common filler is polystyrene foam (styrofoam balls), which has an extraordinary lightness, which will allow you to sew an ottoman with a small mass for a small child. The kid will be able to rearrange such furniture independently. A more budget option would be foam rubber or old things that can be cut into shreds. The cleanest option, from the point of view of ecology, is filling with legumes (peas, beans) or buckwheat. Small round seeds perfectly adapt to the shape of the body, but such furniture will be much heavier and stiffer.

When filling the chair with expanded polystyrene balls, it should be borne in mind that over time this filler is crushed, so it will need to be added periodically. The service life of expanded polystyrene depends on its density.

Sequence of work

For the successful completion of the project to create an ottoman bag with your own hands, the sequence of actions is important, which is almost the same for any form. The pattern for a ball chair or a drop differs only in the size and configuration of the parts. For example, a step-by-step instruction for a do-it-yourself chair will be described, which will reveal the process of manufacturing a pear-shaped version.

Preparation of materials and tools:

  • selection of a pear chair pattern of the optimal size (maximum XL);
  • sewing machine, scissors, threads matching the color of the fabric of the upper cover;
  • work surface for cutting (a large table or part of the floor without a carpet);
  • ruler, pencil, graph paper, compasses to get a pattern with dimensions;
  • two types of fabric with a width of at least 150 cm, the density of the matter should be medium so that the machine can sew 2-3 layers at the same time;
  • zipper according to the color of the fabric with a length of at least 0.5 m;
  • filler.

The list and quantity of tools and materials may vary depending on the selected product model.

Size selection

For experienced craftsmen who often sew, a pattern for a bean bag chair can be made directly on the material. The most economical option is to use fabrics 1.5 m wide and 3 m long. This area freely fits 6 wedges, which will be the sides of the furniture and two hexagons (bottom and top).

The dimensions of the parts will be as follows:

  • a small upper hexagon has the same sides of all edges - 20 cm each;
  • large lower - equal sides of 40 cm;
  • each side wedge has a height of 130 cm, the upper and lower platforms - respectively 20 and 40 cm (coincide with the edges of the hexagons), at the widest point the width should be 50 cm.

Beginners will need step-by-step instructions and a pattern for a bean bag on graph paper.

The layout of parts on canvases, where the height of the fabric is 1.5 m and the width is 3 m, is as follows:

  • starting from the upper right corner, 2 wedges are sequentially laid out on the fabric (bottom on the right, top on the left), the first block is completed by a small hexagon;
  • the next strip also consists of two wedges, but they are turned upside down (the top is on the right, the bottom is on the left), the second block is completed by a half of a large hexagon, which is divided into equal parts with an acute angle at the top;
  • in the last row, the side parts are laid out similarly to the first, at the end the second half of the hexagon is placed.

When drawing constituent elements on the material, an allowance of 1.5 cm is required for the seams around each part. If the fabric is dark, then it is convenient to draw a drawing with a thin bar of soap. When using crayons or markers, it is important to remember that the bright color may be visible on the light fabric outer cover.

Tailoring

A sewing machine will allow you to sew a bean bag chair as accurately as possible according to the pattern. Hand stitching is very time consuming and can only look good with true craftsmen. In order for the work with covers to be convenient, it is important to follow the sequence of connecting parts.. In this case, a detailed pattern with the correct dimensions will be indispensable.

The work consists of the following steps:

  1. First, two parts of a large hexagon are connected. It is important to sew the halves so that the total length is 40 cm, and also equal to the rest of the sides.
  2. 6 side faces are sequentially sewn together without joining the extreme sides.
  3. Large and small hexagons are attached above and below.
  4. A zipper is sewn into the open side wedges, which will allow you to remove the top cover or open the inner one to fill the pouffe. Inserting the lock requires a lot of attention, as its ends must be hidden inside the case.

It would be best for beginner needlewomen to start working from the bottom shell in order to take into account possible mistakes and not repeat them on the outer one.

Filler stuffing

If the pear chair, sewn by hand, is ready for filling, then the stuffing process will depend on the material chosen. In the case of choosing lightweight polystyrene foam, soft bean bags will require at least 450 liters of raw materials, as they are designed for a maximum size XL. When filling a pouffe bag with foam granules, you will have to be very careful, as weightless balls often crumble.

To avoid excess debris, it is better to connect the neck of the bag with loose contents and the hole in the inner cover, which should fit snugly against the package. It is also recommended to spray the fabric with water to reduce the electrostatics of the foam. The best solution would be stuffing with filler in four hands.

The same method of connecting containers is suitable for bulk biological bases (legumes and buckwheat). When using old things, they are not just cut into small pieces, but they also use the layering method so that the lumps do not bulge on the sides and do not protrude under the cover with irregularities. The most comfortable simple filler is a synthetic winterizer, as it is light in weight and fits in even layers.

decoration

If you managed to sew a bean bag chair, then it is important to pay attention not only to convenience, but also to the aesthetic part of the new piece of furniture. A do-it-yourself bag at home can be made a real design art object. For example, if old jeans are chosen as external protection, then in addition to native pockets, you can sew on several additional ones - from bright fabrics.

An easy way to sew a puff pouffe and make it an individual personal gift is to sew a “photo print” of a family member on the back of a plain chair and make each tenant their own ottoman bag with your own hands.

For bourgeois oval empire-style large pillows made of plush or velvet, the addition of luxurious fringe is appropriate. Bows and ruffles are perfect for colorful pastel chairs with a reference to Provence. For a children's frameless product, you can sew a "cognitive" cover with multi-colored letters of the alphabet and numbers. A preschooler will visually memorize symbols, which will facilitate the learning process.

Printed

With bright insert

Denim

Caring for frameless furniture is easy. A cushion chair filled with Styrofoam may shrink over time as the foam filling will gradually lose air due to stress. The problem is solved by a simple addition of padding. It is better to place frameless furniture filled with bulk materials away from heating appliances, and also not to keep it in the sun for a long time, because due to the gradual evaporation of moisture, the filling will decrease in volume, and the contours will deform.

If it is decided to sew a bean bag chair for children, like a comfortable high chair, then it is important to wash the outer cover correctly, especially if it is multi-colored. For regular cleaning of the surface, you can use special wet wipes. Gentle substances without chlorine are used as a laundry detergent, preferably a liquid consistency.

A variety of options and shapes of the bean bag chair can bring comfort and mood to everyday life. For lovers of new experiences, it is enough to sew several outer covers on one pouffe and change them according to your mood. Frameless furniture is a great way to decorate the interior.

Necessary materials
- Fabric (breathable, dense) two-thread (3 meters).
- Plastic zipper.
- Cloth (dense) oxford. Black - 2.5 meters, white - 1 meter, and orange - 50x50 cm.
- Filler (polystyrene foam) (200 liters). Can be purchased at a hardware store.
- Sewing machine.
- Threads, needles.
- Velcro (10-20 cm).

Manufacturing

We sew an outer cover

1. We cut out 6 side parts from black fabric and “two-thread” fabric. They will serve as our inner and outer cover. The sides should be pear-shaped. They are larger on the bottom and smaller on the top.

2. Cut out the bottom from the same fabrics. The bottom should be larger than our lid.

3. Cut out the lid from the same materials. In order for our parts to converge, it needs to be made in a hexagonal shape.

P.s. The sides of the hexagon should be equal to the top and base of the pear.

4. Cut out the tummy for our penguin, from white fabric. And sew it with black fabric.

6. Then we sew the side parts to our zipper, and the tummy.

7. Cut out the paws, from orange fabric, 4 things, and sew them together.

8. Cut out the eyes. To do this, take a white fabric, and cut out an irregular figure eight from it, and then two small, black circles. They also need to be connected.

9. Cut out the nose, two triangular areas. We also sew two parts. We sew the nose to our tummy, and sew the eyes on top of the nose.

10. We also cut out the wings from the fabric, 4 triangular areas, and sew them to our torso.

P.s. Before stitching the orange fabric and wings, you need to fill them with cotton wool or polystyrene foam.

After all the steps, we should get such an outer cover.

We sew an inner cover

It needs to be sewn so that our little foam polystyrene balls do not crumble.

11. It is sewn in the same way as the outer cover. In addition to attaching the bottom.

12. We will make the bottom with Velcro to fill the cover. We cut the bottom into two parts, the first part should be smaller than the second. We attach our Velcro to both parts, putting the parts on top of each other.

In order to sew a bag chair, you will need about 4.6 m of dense and lining fabric, 2 zippers no shorter than 56 cm, as well as polystyrene or other granules of at least 1.8 cubic meters.

Pear chair pattern, more precisely, one of the six segments of the bag is shown in the diagram, one with adult sizes, the dimensions of the other are reduced for the convenience of the child. In order to simplify the calculations, you can use graph paper or other checkered paper; on such material, you can easily transfer the diagram only if the scale is observed.

As a result, the pattern of an adult chair will have the following dimensions: length 105 cm, maximum width 54 cm.

To create the top of the chair, fold the paper in half, and then make a mark in the middle of the fold line. Next, you need to draw a circle with a radius of 14cm.

To create a pattern for the base of the chair, as well as when creating a drawing of the top, you can use paper folded in half, however, a circle should be drawn with a radius of at least 30.5 cm. parallel line. After that, the circle is cut along this line, and the base pattern will be the smaller part of the circle.

As a result of cutting, you should get:
- six wedges from the fabric for the cover and the same number cut from the lining fabric;
- one upper part made of lining fabric and one made of fabric for the cover;
- two parts of the base, cut out of the fabric for the cover, and also two of the lining fabric.

How to sew a bag chair- the answer to this question is quite simple! First you need to sew together the details of the base, and between the two details of the base you need to insert a zipper. Next, you should connect the side wedges to each other with the right sides inward. When all the details are interconnected, the product must be ironed, not forgetting to carefully smooth the seams. After that, the bag can be filled with polystyrene or other granules.

So the beautiful chair-pear-bean bag, sewn with your own hands, is ready!

Happy sewing!

Furniture is different: soft and cabinet, beautiful and comfortable, necessary and beloved, white and red ... And sometimes it is also frameless. We first saw cool unusual chairs in the program "Comedy Club". Previously, something such baggy furniture did not catch the eye. But thanks to the popular TV show, everyone was envious and urgently wanted the same ones for themselves!

To date, I myself have sewn quite a few of these bags. And then we looked everywhere, where at least one was possible, to rip it open, and see, well, what is there after all inside! A real odyssey about twelve chairs! With what only we did not fill the covers, which we ourselves designed! Sintepon, pieces of foam rubber, wool ... everything was not right! It seems to be soft, but there is no such characteristic elastic and lively effect!

A whole year passed until the friends who came from Italy found such a chair, not by chance. It was so beautiful, huge and silvery that the hand did not rise to cut it. Yes, it was not necessary. The case appears to have a zipper. And inside is another case. And in that case - tiny peas. What would you think, of course, Styrofoam! Darkness-darkness of cute white balls. Who would have guessed that they just have an unbearable character? But more on that later.

Do-it-yourself frameless furniture is incredibly convenient, comfortable and beautiful. After sitting and lying down on such an armchair, we can relax our back, and the whole body as a whole. Such stunning chairs are simply adored by children and animals. And it all started with a curiosity. And, of course, in the homeland of design - in Italy. In the sixties of the twentieth century, young designers Cesare Paolini, Franco Teodoro and Piero Gatti came up with a kind of punk movement "Antidesign".

The guys made absolutely crazy furniture. Including armchairs without frames. Colored water was poured into bags made of transparent PVC fabric. These works resembled huge packages of yogurt. Such furniture at design exhibitions looked very scandalous, of course. But it just looked. It was impossible to operate it. Water is very heavy in itself, and the fabric simply torn under its weight.

But Italy is the birthplace of not only artists, but also adventurers. Industrialist Aurelio Zanotta had a business sense. He liked the crazy idea, and after thinking about it, he made his own changes, which made the bags practical chairs. Aurelio replaced PVC with a durable fabric, and water with foamed PVC balls. And already in 1968, his freshly baked company "Zanotta" puts on sale bags-drops of bright pink color, weightless and insanely comfortable.

Сonfortevole da morire, as the Italians like to say "deadly comfortable". These chairs were called "Sacco" (sacco) - a bag. Incredible pink bags immediately won many awards at exhibitions, the largest museums in the world, such as MoMA, Metropolitan, and many others. The ingenious Aurelio got rich, and the Zanotta factory still produces frameless furniture, which sells around the world with a bang. As well as all the rest of the beautiful furniture of their production. By the way, the world's first inflatable chair "Blow" was also born in this factory.

In 2008, the Zanotta factory celebrated its 40th anniversary. For the holiday, they released a collection of Saccos, hand-painted by famous artists and designers. She was destined to travel around the world, and then sell at auction. The French channel "Arte" made a whole film dedicated to ageless bags. These are the consequences of the friendship of three young designers! By the way, I never found out what their fate was.

So wonderful bright mattresses carry the energy of prosperity and breakthrough. Why don't we have these? The original costs about 600 euros. Native Ukrainian fake - more than a thousand hryvnia. But wait! Italians are not all so brilliant and handy. For the most part, they do not like to make something there (and even more so, by the way, to repair and repair) with their own hands. They prefer to earn and buy. Otherwise the world would be overpopulated with Mikkelangels and Leonard Davincis.

But we are, we are different! Golden hands are given to us from birth! Our craftswomen figured out a long time ago how to make such charming furniture at home. Of all the tools, only a sewing machine is needed. No hammers, no drills, no outside help needed. In one evening, you can easily build one chair. For a week of work, do-it-yourself frameless furniture will be a wonderful gift to all relatives and friends.

Now we will decide on the model, and proceed. To date, such frameless furniture models:

This beauty also differs in size: for adults and children, bigger and smaller. But there are no strict standards. The principle of tailoring is the same for everyone. The difference is only in the pattern of the model.

Components of furniture

So, any frameless chair consists of two covers: internal and external. Both fasten with zippers. External case it can be made of eco-leather (the word promoted by advertising, in fact, it is an ordinary furniture leatherette). Such a surface is easy to clean, always looks bright and elegant. But to sit on it with bare feet in the summer means to stick. You can also use any fabric, preferably furniture - they are much stronger. For example, fleece, you can raincoat fabric, cotton fabric, any light and durable. With natural fabric, the body feels better, but it wears out faster. In general, think, in the end, sewing a new cover instead of a worn out one is not a problem.

Inner case can be sewn from furniture interlining or a simple lining fabric. Its shape is the same as the outer one. And filling- balls of polyvinyl chloride, that is, polystyrene.

Foamed granules are very harmful. Putting them in a ready-made case is impossible! According to the law of static electricity, the balls fly up, then completely sideways, and finally stick to everything. A very beautiful sight, but I do not advise repeating it. For the rest of your life, you'll be picking nasty pellets out of all sorts of places. I have developed two methods to stuff the harmful balls inside the case.

First: sew a long zipper, for example, a meter long, into the inner case. Then you can stuff the whole bag into it, cut it inside, and take it out, and the balls will remain inside. Second: make a large paper funnel, and fill the crumbs through it. Then there is no need for a long lightning. Paper also removes static electricity.

Previously, this miracle could only be bought in hardware stores in large bags. Now, when frameless furniture is mass-produced, there are special granules packaged in one hundred liters. They cost from fifty hryvnias - according to the conscience of the seller. Don't be intimidated by the volume - the bag is almost weightless.

Varieties of frameless furniture

We start with the simplest patterns. To start, let's make pillow. It looks like a trihedral pyramid. The classic proportions of triangles: the base is 110 cm each, the sides are 80 cm each. But you can resize without changing the proportions to your liking. We cut out, placing the details on the fabric in such a way as in the photo.

We give seam allowances one and a half centimeters on each side. Sew together the sides of the pyramid. Slices are processed with an overlock if the fabric is loose. Sewing on the triangle base of the pyramid, we sew in the zipper. It is better to do this on the entire face 100 cm long.

We sew the outer cover in the same way. We stuff a bag with balls into the inner case and release them, fill the case by two-thirds. They need room to move in order to take shape when they sit in the chair. We take out an empty bag, fasten the zipper. We stuff the inner into the outer, fasten. That's it, you're done!

Armchair-pear consists of six wedges, a round bottom (bottom part 1 and 2, two parts each), and an upper hexagonal part. It is sewn in the same way as a pillow. classic is also no less interesting. We cut out two side parts.

Pattern for mat chairs not needed at all. We sew two rectangles, width 120 cm, height 180 cm, do not forget about zippers. That's the whole cover. Do not forget that you do not need to fill the cover with balls to failure, but only two-thirds. patterns flower chairs I don't, I didn't have to sew. But there is a picture by which it is clear how to sew. In fact, the whole flower is sewn from squares.

And finally, I will say, if frameless furniture with your own hands has taken root with you, do not throw away the remnants of harmful balls. Over time, after about a year of daily use, the balls will shrink and become smaller in volume.

Then you will need to fill them up to the desired volume. And you just have the right amount in the balance!

I will also say, lovers of a particularly healthy lifestyle. I have never heard anyone complain about allergic reactions to frameless furniture. She is very eco-friendly.

Have a nice rest in chairs that take the shape of your body, chairs that know how to love, chairs born in the most beautiful country in the world!
