How to choose and install a plastic skirting board. Sizes of pvc skirting boards Shapes and sizes of plastic skirting boards

Today, plastic floor plinth is undoubtedly one of the leaders among its "brothers". Beautiful appearance, ease of processing, a very reasonable price and ease of installation - these are just some of the advantages that distinguish plastic skirting boards.

It is quite natural that many are interested in installing plastic skirting boards with their own hands. Therefore, it would be useful to learn how to nail plastic skirting boards: video, photographic materials will help us with this.

Plinth floor plastic in the interior

The technical characteristics of any floor cornice depend on two parameters:

  • material of manufacture;

Plastic plinth: types and technical parameters

There are several technologies for the production of polyvinyl chloride. Depending on the features of the manufacturing process, the floor plastic plinth is of the following types.

Flexible white plastic skirting board

Semi-rigid. The polymer under conditions of increased pressure during the production process changes its structure. First of all, this concerns longitudinal ties. As a result of their strengthening, the final plastic products become flexible. This type of plastic skirting board can be laid on a curved surface without creating gaps.

How to fix a plastic plinth made of semi-rigid PVC

The plastic radius cornice can be bent to a circle of 30 cm in radius.

Advice: if it is necessary to provide a greater bend, then the product can be lowered into hot water for a couple of minutes - this way it will acquire greater plasticity.

Plinth floor plastic: how to fix the corner

Hard. The most common decor option. Usually it is placed on straight sections, and the rotary parts are connected using special corners.

Lightweight and neat foam plastic profile attached to the wall

Foamed. Foamed PVC plinth is lightweight, has low thermal conductivity characteristics, therefore, in addition to being decorative, it additionally insulates the floor.

It is difficult to determine which floor plinth made of plastic is better, and is it necessary? After all, the product must be selected in accordance with the parameters of the room, the geometry of the walls and, possibly, other additional factors.

Construction of plastic skirting boards

The installation of plastic skirting boards today is simplified as much as possible, since modern models, as a rule, are composite in design: a mounting plate and an external decorative panel. The tightness of the bar clamp is ensured by its soft rubberized edge. This allows you to compensate to some extent for uneven surfaces of the floor and walls.

How to nail a plastic baseboard with a cable channel

Plastic plinth with cable channel simplifies cable routing. It can have multiple blocks.

Model for carpet: a strip of carpet is mounted on a mounting adhesive tape

On a note: for decorating carpet, it is better to put a model with an L-shaped section. Unlike ordinary ones, the lower edge is slightly bent. The fasteners of the carpet in the upper part are made into the groove with adhesive tape. Having completed the installation of the plastic plinth, a monolithic-looking connection is obtained.

It would be unfair not to note that laying a deaf floor plastic plinth is also not particularly difficult. Although this product is one-piece, the special grooves provided on the inside can hide fasteners and low-voltage wiring.

Performance characteristics of PVC skirting board

We can say that the plastic product has unique characteristics:

  • does not require surface treatment;
  • retains its original shape and color;
  • resistant to temperature, moisture and direct UV rays;
  • easy to install.
  • has a wide range of colors. This indicator is especially important when creating an individual interior design of the room. The choice is even wider - this is not only a standard color scheme, but also an imitation of the texture of natural materials.

Plinth floor plastic: dimensions

To calculate the decorative plinth, its exact dimensions are needed. The size of plastic products largely determines the type of construction. There is no normative document regarding its geometric dimensions. However, they basically fit into the following row:

  • width - on average about 20–25 mm;
  • height - 50–60 mm, while wide plastic floor plinths can reach 150 mm;
  • the length of the plastic plinth is 2500 mm.

A wide plinth with a cable channel is characterized by the presence of several chambers for laying cables

How to choose the right product by size and not only.

  • Simple decorative panels should cover the interface between the floor and walls.
  • If you put the plinth on a wooden floor, in particular on parquet, then its base should be 2–3 mm larger than the thermal gap.
  • The presence of an elastic edge somewhat complicates the calculation of the final installation area.
  • The decor should fit into the color scheme of the floor and walls. Depending on the interior style of the room and the overall color, the plinth can either visibly delimit them, or visually continue the horizontal surface.
  • For some floor coverings, say, carpet, special models are chosen.
  • Products with a cable channel will help to organize full-fledged jobs in the shortest possible time.

Plastic plinth in a modern interior

Thus, the selected skirting board must satisfy two conditions:

  • harmoniously fit into the interior of the room;
  • perform a specific function.

How to install a plastic floor plinth: three installation methods

Do-it-yourself installation of plastic skirting boards takes place in a certain sequence and can be done by anyone who has ever held a drill in their hands.

Connectors and fixings for plastic floor plinth

Under the fastening of plastic profiles usually go: plastic strips or metal clips, which must be screwed along the length of the installed decor.

Moldings for plastic decor

For almost all types of plastic cornices, the elements are connected through special moldings:

  • corners - they are of two types: internal and external;
  • connectors - with their help, pieces of planks are joined in a straight line;
  • plugs, left and right - are designed to decorate the end sections of the plank, say, from the edges of a doorway or furniture located close to the wall.
Advice: it is advisable to buy connectors with a margin, since it is impossible to completely eliminate the possibility of unexpected trimming.

Installing a plastic skirting board on self-tapping screws

markup

The markings start from the corner of the room, which is located farthest from the front door, on a long wall. A corner is put on a plastic plinth and applied to the selected corner so that the corner fits exactly into it. The first segment is marked, departing from the end of the corner by 50-100 mm, and the rest - in increments of 250-500 mm. The marks should be centered on the plank.

On a note: On flat areas, the marking step is chosen more, for uneven ones, respectively, vice versa.

How to make holes for screws

Making holes

  • For brick and concrete walls, holes are drilled at the marked points and dowels are driven in there, after removing the debris and dust formed from drilling.
  • For plasterboard and other similar materials, screws are driven into the bar without pre-drilling.

Skirting board installation

Remove the decorative strip from the plinth and apply it to the marked wall with screwed dowels. Pierce it with an awl at the attachment points of the dowels and insert the screws. They must be screwed in until it stops, but not so much as to dent the bar.

On a note: it is recommended not to tighten the screws very much so that the bar can evenly adjoin the wall.

Having fixed the first segment, a connector is inserted into its end, the beginning of the next segment is tightly adjusted and fixed. It is recommended to position the skirting board pieces so that the joint is in the middle of the wall.

Skirting board installation

Trimming strips in the corners

When the wall ends, it usually turns out that the second segment is clearly longer than necessary. So it needs to be cut off. How to do it? Having installed the appropriate plug in the corner, measure the remaining area. Plastic is cut in such a way that it does not reach the corner by about 3-5 mm. This shortfall will “take away” the docking corner. It is better to cut plastic with a hacksaw, after which the cut points must be sanded using fine sandpaper.

Installation of connecting elements and sockets

It is necessary to connect the inner corner and the segment of the bar strictly at a right angle. It is pushed into the inner corner and pressed down to the edge of the thrust bar, after which the bar is fixed.

Important: connectors and other additional elements are put on the plinth before the screw closest to it is screwed in.

According to this algorithm, the plinth is fixed around the perimeter of the room.

If communications must be laid in the profile, then in these cases, holes are carefully cut out for them in connectors or plugs and sockets are installed.

Clip-on mounting is very popular due to its extreme simplicity - they are attached to the wall and the baseboard is snapped onto them. However, such a mount is mostly disposable, that is, the clips can no longer be used after dismantling.

Step-by-step installation on clips

The installation is first performed “dry”: the plinth is cut, corners, connectors and plugs are placed. With a pencil, mark on the floor the places where the clips are fixed in increments of about 30-40 cm or less for uneven sections of the wall.

Advice: pressing the plinth against the wall with your hand, check if there are any gaps and only then put a mark.

Clips, as a rule, are fixed on dowels. For drywall walls, the clips must be screwed through the drywall to the bottom track. After fixing the clips, the plinth is applied to the wall and the bar is pressed with force, say, hit with a fist, opposite each clip until it snaps into place.

Installation of plinth with glue

Working with "liquid nails" does not require any skills at all. On the reverse side, a composition is applied to the bar, it has a rather thick consistency, and glued.

Installation on "liquid nails"

Corners and other accessories are glued in the same way. This method is only suitable for carefully aligned walls.

The secrets of beauty and style lie in the little things, and this indisputable truth concerns not only the fashion or appearance of a person, but also the interior of his home. It is not enough just to glue the wallpaper, lay the flooring and insert brand new plastic windows. It is also necessary to purchase and fix such elements as fillets, door jambs and, of course, floor plinth. With the latter, by the way, not everything is as simple as it seems at first glance. For example, the length of a plastic floor plinth, as well as its other parameters, can play an important role when choosing a product.

A modern renovation cannot be completed without the use of a floor plinth. First of all, this detail, of course, is necessary in order to decoratively hide the joints between the wall and the floor, the gaps that may remain after the installation of the floor covering, deformation gaps, etc. The plinth will also do an excellent job with minor defects, which are often are formed at the junction of the floor and the wall - for example, unevenly pasted wallpaper, ugly sections of the coating panels and other unpleasant moments. In general, the skirting board is able to make the appearance of the room neat and tidy.

What do the joints of the floor and walls look like without a plinth

Also, the floor plinth will protect the floor covering from debris and dust getting under it. During wet cleaning, it will protect the wallpaper from excessive wetting when the floors are washed near the walls. Also, the plinth can serve as a kind of channel in which you can hide wires and cables from prying eyes. And if the room is covered with carpet, this small decorative detail will also become a kind of retainer that holds the coating.

The history of floor plinth began around the 1st century AD. e., but the exact date of appearance of this interior detail is unknown. Previously, skirting boards were made by hand, and at the beginning of the 16th century, special machines appeared that made it possible to cut out these details. Then skirting boards appeared, assembled from two types of wood - their front side was made of expensive material, and the back side was made of cheaper material. At one time, even ceramic parts were produced - expensive and fragile, and therefore used in the design of premises extremely rarely. And the palaces of the nobility were decorated with plinths with inlays - such are still preserved in historically significant ancient objects of architecture.

On a note! Previously, the plinth in cross section had the shape of a triangle with sides of about 3-4 cm. But now this part can have a different geometry.

As science developed, various synthetic materials began to appear and be used in construction. Skirting boards were also made from them - in our time, plastic decor elements have almost completely replaced wooden ones from the market. They are made on the basis of PVC and have a lot of advantages.

Plastic plinth: what are its advantages and features?

Why is a plastic floor plinth so good that most people prefer it? The fact is that it has a lot of advantages:

  • it is universal and suitable for almost any type of flooring;
  • it is an inexpensive material;
  • plastic plinth is wear-resistant and can serve for many years;

  • it is unpretentious in care, easy to clean and wash;
  • before laying, the plastic plinth does not require additional preparation, except for trimming if necessary;
  • the installation of this part is very simple;
  • manufacturers offer a large selection of skirting boards of different shapes, sizes and a variety of colors;

  • the plinth does not rot, is not afraid of water, is resistant to various chemicals;
  • some models of skirting boards can have rubber edging around the edges, which is important for rooms with high humidity - thanks to rubber inserts, condensate will not be able to get under floor and wall coverings;
  • this part also has additional functions - for example, the presence of cable channels for laying wires.

On a note! The color and texture variations of the plastic plinth are sometimes amazing. Some options are simply impossible to visually distinguish from natural materials - for example, from wood or stone. This allows you to pick up a plinth and use it to decorate rooms decorated in any style.

But a plastic plinth is far from an ideal option for sealing gaps between walls and floors, because it also has its drawbacks:

  • during installation, you will have to use various small additional elements - for example, corners;
  • plastic plinth is quite fragile, with a strong mechanical impact, it easily breaks. It becomes especially fragile when the air temperature in the room is below 0 degrees.

Nevertheless, although the choice of skirting board depends on the material of the flooring, in most cases the consumer prefers the plastic version.

Perhaps for some, the following information will be a discovery, but there are several types of plastic plinth. It is divided into different types according to manufacturing technology, as well as the presence / absence of a cable channel.

Table. Types of plastic plinth depending on the technology and material of manufacture.

Type of plinthCharacteristic

Such a skirting board is famous for its elasticity, but, unfortunately, it is quite fragile and breaks easily. Not an empty version.

Rugged but hollow looking. Plinth of low quality, suitable for economical repairs. Usually used for finishing non-residential premises.

The plinth is flexible, which is often used even for bending around in the process of repairing simple curved structures. High class material with good appearance, rich palette.

Also, the plastic plinth for the floor can be divided into two more types:

  • without cable channel, which is a solid profile without the possibility of laying wires inside it;
  • with cable channel, which has a base and a decorative element that hides cavities with wires and fasteners.

There is also an intermediate version of the plastic plinth, which has a small groove on the back, hidden from the eyes, where cables can be placed if desired. At the same time, wires of absolutely any purpose can be laid behind the plinth - electrical, from TV antennas, Internet cables and others.

Dimensions of the floor plastic plinth

Before you go to the hardware store for the baseboard, it is important to get acquainted with the dimensional characteristics. This knowledge will be useful for calculating the amount of material needed. And if the length of the plinth for these purposes must necessarily be known, then you should not miss the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the height and width of the material.

Skirting board length

The standard length of a plastic skirting board is 2.5 m. Most likely, the manufacturers considered this indicator to be exactly this because of the ease of installation and transportation. After all, longer straps will be quite difficult to transport.

On a note! Products from the same batch must have the same dimensions with an accuracy of one millimeter. The batches are different, even from the same manufacturer, they may differ somewhat, but (as a rule) differ slightly.

Some companies offer even longer options. Or, if you want to get a skirting board longer than usual, you can contact the manufacturer directly and try to negotiate with him about the release of exclusive models. In general, the maximum length that can be found in stores is 5.05 m. Such a plinth often breaks during transportation.

Width and height of skirting boards

But the choice of plinth in width and height is much more diverse than in length. For example, you can choose a product by width in the range from 15 to 22 mm (width is measured by the floor). The height usually varies from 52 to 65 mm, however, this figure for a plastic plinth with a cable channel can be all 150 mm.

On a note! A typical version of a plastic plinth has the following parameters: 51x21x2500 mm.

How to choose?

In order for the installation to take place quickly, and in the interior of the apartment the skirting boards looked harmonious, you need to be able to choose them correctly. Fortunately, there are certain rules for selecting sizes and types of material.

How to calculate the amount of skirting board

In order not to spend extra money, you should learn how to correctly calculate the amount of plinth. This knowledge can be useful in the repair of any room. The whole difficulty in making calculations lies in the fact that any room is far from an ideal rectangle or square in shape. Any room has inside various niches, columns, bends and so on. That is why simply measuring the perimeter of the room and dividing it by the length of one plinth plank will not work - you will have to work hard with the calculations.

Important! When calculating the amount of plinth, it is very important to take into account the margin that will go “nowhere” when cutting the material. Sometimes a lot is spent on cutting a profile.

To begin with, an exact plan of the room in which the repair is being carried out is drawn. This takes into account all dimensions to the nearest millimeter, as well as niches, doorways, columns and other geometric features.

Then the perimeter of the room is calculated - this is the sum of all lengths, except for the width of the doorways. The resulting result is divided by the length of one plank of the plinth. If the number turned out to be fractional, it is rounded up to the nearest integer. When making calculations, the consumption for cutting, allowances is immediately taken into account - it will be equal to approximately 10% of the total.

Advice! To calculate the amount of skirting boards for a room or house, you can use online calculators.

Installation of a plastic skirting board is not a difficult science. However, there are some nuances here. In order for the process to proceed correctly, it is necessary to purchase not only the baseboard itself, but also additional accessories - these are external and internal corners, plugs. The number of corners will be equal to the number of corners in the room (calculations should be made separately - external, and separately - internal). Plugs will be installed near the doors - it should be counted by the number of "endings" of the plinth line.

In order to connect two skirting boards together, you will need special connectors.

How to install a plastic floor plinth

Before installing the plinth, the floor covering is laid, the walls are finished. Installation of a plastic skirting board is carried out as follows.

Step 1. Installation of the plinth can be started from any of the corners of the room. A corner is put on one of the plinth strips. The plinth is placed close to the wall and corner, at the end of the wall a mark is made with a pencil flush at the place where the excess part of the plank is cut off. The corner put on earlier is removed.

The plinth is applied to the installation site

Step 2 To cut the plinth, a clerical knife and a hacksaw are used. If the plinth has rubber inner and outer edges, then first they are cut with a knife - a hacksaw can tear them. Further, along the pencil mark, the plinth is sawn with a hacksaw.

Step 3 After sawing off, the inner insert is removed from the plinth.

Step 4 The corner is again put on the edge of the plinth, the bar is applied to the wall. On the other side of the plinth, either an outer corner or a plug will be put on.

Step 5 The plinth in the groove is attached to the wall with a screwdriver and self-tapping screws (if the wall is made of drywall or wood) or with a puncher and dowels (if the wall is made of concrete). Fastening is done every 30-40 cm.

Step 6 On the other side of the plinth, a frame for the outer corner is installed. It is attached through the plinth on one side only.

Attention! While attaching the skirting board to the wall, it must be simultaneously pressed to the floor.

Step 7 After attaching the plinth, a bar is inserted that covers the caps of the self-tapping screws. Under the corner, it is inserted 0.5 cm.

Step 8 Plinth markings can be made not only from the inner corner to the outer, but also in a different way. To do this, a corner is placed in the inner corner, a mark is made on the wall along its side face with a pencil. A tape measure measures the distance from the mark to the corner of the wall. 0.5 cm is added to the resulting length. It is this length that a piece of the plinth strip is cut off.

Attention! When calculating the length of the skirting board between two internal corners, 1 cm is added to the resulting length.

Step 9 The segment is attached in the same way as in the previous paragraphs. After installing both segments, the outer corner is put on. Thus, the skirting board is installed around the perimeter of the room.

Video - Secrets of installing PVC plastic plinth. Hardware overview and assembly in detail

Plastic plinth is a great way to inexpensively and beautifully finish the joints of the wall and floor. The material is unpretentious, easy to install and maintain, and most importantly - sold in all hardware stores. It is only important not to make a mistake in the calculations before buying the material - be sure to take into account the length of the slats. Otherwise, if you buy a skirting board later, you can run into material from another batch, which will differ in color or some other parameters.

Reading time: 5 minutes

Having successfully overcome the complex and time-consuming work on the ceiling and floor, you can breathe a sigh of relief and go to choose skirting boards. Because the long-awaited end of a grandiose project, whose name is repair, is approaching. The last spurt remains - the installation of a plastic plinth, and you will fully enjoy the fruits of your labors.

Plinth is not just a decorative element of decoration. In addition to its design properties, it perfectly performs quite practical tasks: it hides small errors in the floor covering, joins the floor with the wall, hides cables and wires.

Advantages of plastic skirting boards

A worthy competitor to wooden, veneered or ceramic skirting boards are plastic products. Their advantages:

  1. Moisture and detergent resistant.
  2. Flexibility. Smooth curves and semi-circular solutions in the design of the room - a task that soft and semi-soft plastic products (even with a cable channel inside) do an excellent job. To do this, you need to cut off the stiffeners and heat the bar with a building hair dryer, giving it the desired shape.
  3. Ease of installation. Do-it-yourself plastic skirting boards can be installed not only by the owner of the apartment, but also by her hostess.
  4. Wide range of models. The color palette and richness of textures will satisfy the most demanding requests.
  5. Fire safety.
  6. Durability.
  7. Low price.

Disadvantages of plastic products

  1. Use of auxiliary elements: plugs, corners, fasteners and connections. It is impossible to see all this in the finished design. In addition, after do-it-yourself installation, these parts often disappear during operation. The problem is small, but it contributes.
  2. Imitation of natural materials. To appear to be something that you are not is always not very good, even if you are a baseboard. Not always worthy, not always of high quality. Although this very disadvantage can serve as an advantage for someone: like a tree, but pay less.
  3. Often cable channels do not contain all the wires that need to be hidden. But this is not only a disadvantage of plastic slats.

Types of plastic skirting boards

Models of plastic skirting boards for the floor can be divided into groups depending on their features.

Varieties of products by type of application

  1. Universal plinth. It has the appearance of a solid straight plank and is suitable for decorating a floor with a coating in the form of linoleum, carpet, laminate or tiles.
  2. Plinth under carpet. It has an "L"-shaped base, which has an adhesive tape on which a strip of carpet is glued. In this case, the product will merge in color with the floor.

Types of skirting boards by type of base

  1. Plastic semi-rigid. They are made of PVC, in which the molecular structure was changed under pressure. Due to this, semi-rigid products are flexible and can be used in the design of curved surfaces.
  2. Made from rigid PVC. Used in areas with a straight surface.
  3. Made from foamed PVC. They are similar in appearance to rigid PVC products, but have a lower density, are more porous and therefore have good thermal insulation properties.

Types by the presence of a cable channel

  1. Plank with cable channel. On the inside, it has a technical groove in which cables and wires can be hidden along the wall.
  2. Product without cable channel. This is a solid or composite profile that does not provide for the possibility of locating communications in it.

Calculation of the number of skirting boards and accessories

The components of products that form the joints of walls and floors include:

  • external and internal corners;
  • plugs;
  • connecting elements.

Tip: when buying material, it is necessary to add 5 cm per bar (for cutting) to the calculated number of planks.

Installation of plastic skirting boards

Depending on the type of products and the type of flooring, the methods of their installation also differ. But in any case, installing skirting boards with your own hands will not be difficult.

Installation with clips

This method of installing a skirting board with or without a cable channel involves attaching a carrier bar using special clips. Then a shaped rail is hung on the bar.

How to install:

  1. Fasten clips to the wall every 50 cm using dowel-nails.
  2. Place the skirting board on the clips.

This hidden method allows you to get a solid plank without traces of self-tapping screws.

Important! Do-it-yourself mounting option for skirting boards on clips is suitable only for flat walls. If there are errors on the wall, the clips will not hold the bar.

HELPFUL INFORMATION: The use of a plasticizer for underfloor heating screed

Self-tapping installation

Fastening with self-tapping screws ensures a tighter fit of the planks to the wall, even if it is not very flat.

Sequencing:

  1. Mark the attachment points. Stepping back 5-7 cm from the corner of the wall, make the first mark, then continue in increments of 30-40 cm.
  2. Drill holes with a puncher according to the marks made.
  3. Drive dowels into holes.
  4. Attach the bar to the wall and in the marked places where there are already dowels, gently pierce it with an awl.
  5. Insert a self-tapping screw into the hole and put it on the dowel.
  6. Connect the next bar to the previous one with the help of connecting elements.
  7. Having reached the corner, saw off an extra piece of the plank and close it with a corner.
  8. Pull the necessary wires and cables into the cable channel.
  9. Close with an external decorative profile.

It is unlikely that anyone will consider the repair completed, accept and pay for the work, if they do not see neat bordering of the joints with skirting boards in the room. After all, the joints between the bottom of the wall and the beginning of the floor surface can be replete with the remains of building materials, threads and be an excellent collector for dust. Not to mention the wires, which simply will have nowhere to go. Builders and designers for this case have long been using a solution that is both functional and beautiful - this is to install skirting boards at the joints of the floor and walls. Floor skirting boards perfectly cope with another task - properly selected, they are able to emphasize the beauty of the flooring exceptionally well.

What are skirting boards

Currently, a wide selection of skirting boards from a variety of materials is on sale: wood, aluminum, plastic, etc. But remember, earlier, more than 20-30 years ago, wooden skirting boards were the industry leaders. This was possible for obvious reasons - there were simply no other options for sale. Currently, the most popular floor skirting boards made of polyvinyl chloride. For simplicity, they are also called plastic skirting boards.

PVC skirting boards - Production is carried out only in accordance with GOST

To understand why many people prefer to use PVC plastic skirting boards for repairs, let's look at how production is organized. Everything is arranged quite simply - the product is made from granulate by extrusion, and the granulate is selected in the desired shade. This method is very common today in the world, and the simplified technology is that the melt of polymeric material (extrudate) is forced in a continuous mode through dies of the required shape and cooled.

The method allows you to get an economically affordable PVC skirting board with a variety of shades, it remains only to choose the desired color of the granules. Production takes place strictly in accordance with the approved quality requirements for this type of product, according to GOST 19111-2001.

Variety of plastic skirting boards

In accordance with GOST, there are three main brands of plastic skirting boards in terms of absolute deformation during indentation:

  • Soft (M);
  • Semi-rigid (RV);
  • Hard (F).

Specifications

Under the conditions of the GOST 19111-2001 quality standard, the following technical characteristics for products made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) are indicated:

  • The front surface should be evenly colored, and if it has differences in shades, then no more than 4 color rendering thresholds;
  • There should be no defects in the form of bumps, dents, scratches, spots;
  • It is obliged to keep color for a long time of operation.

GOST under this number allows a plastic product to have a variety of surfaces: smooth, corrugated, matte, glossy.

The plastic plinth has many excellent consumer properties, and buyers have long appreciated its performance characteristics. Its use is very economical, it is easy to install, without much effort it can be bent and cut with a fine-toothed hacksaw. Thanks to these properties, it is possible to cope with the installation even without being a specialist.

Technical characteristics affect the advantages of PVC skirting board: it does not require additional coating or coloring, it is resistant to external influences, moisture, does not fade under ultraviolet radiation, and is hygroscopic. It does not give in to corrosion, at the same time it is easy to wet it, it behaves well in wet and dry cleaning. The slats themselves are light in weight, unlike, for example, wooden ones, which is also an undoubted advantage during transportation.

In hardware stores there are types of strips for joints:

  1. "Deaf" from solid material;
  2. With removable center panel, for inserting strips of flooring material;
  3. With a lockable cable channel for low-voltage wires.

How are planks selected?

They are selected taking into account the overall color scheme, flooring material and the size of the room. A PVC plank can complement both the walls and the floor finish, to choose from. It is extremely rare that they are selected, focusing on the color and trim of the doors (opanelka). But it is desirable that there is no sharp contrast between them either, for example, it is recommended to take into account the width of the decorative strip along the perimeter of the door and correlate it with the height of the plinth.

But chosen in the style and color of carpeting, linoleum and laminate, it visually complements the floor, expands the space, makes the floor design complete. The selection of skirting boards according to texture and color for wall decoration allows you to visually lengthen the walls, make the room taller and more spacious.

The width should take into account the dimensions of the rooms and correlate with the geometry of the room. Not a good arrangement of rooms, the complex structure of the premises and a wide bulky plinth made of PVC - all this together can "eat" the space.

As for the colors, the shades of the product may differ slightly or vice versa, contrast sharply with the main color scheme of the floor or walls. It all depends on the design intent. For example, a win-win option in ecological design would be to choose a woodgrain color, such as mahogany, oak, and so on.

To begin with, let's figure out what sizes are usually indicated on the plinth. Since in cross section the floor plinth is nothing but a triangle, the long leg is the height, and the short leg is the width. Both of these parameters are not regulated by GOST, so the manufacturer produces arbitrary sizes, focusing on demand from buyers. A plinth with a central cable channel for electrical communications wires will have a greater height than a “deaf” one.

And yet, there are some recommendations that can help you choose a plinth based on your own area dimensions. It should also be remembered that one standard rule applies - for low and narrow rooms they try to select small skirting boards, but if the room has high ceilings, then in order to balance the overall perception of the room, wide planks are used, you can navigate in more detail according to the table .

* - as a rule, the length of the molded product is universal and is 2.5 m. All major manufacturers adhere to this size because it is convenient in packaging, transportation and installation. If you need a length of more than 2.5 meters, then you should pay attention to the flexible "soft" profile, which is rolled into rolls from 5 m long. Such a profile has a "leg", and its dimensions range from 50 (+/-10) *15(+/-3) mm.

How to correctly calculate the length of the plinth?

Calculating the required number of bands is very easy to do. To do this, arm yourself with a tape measure and measure the perimeter of the room along the floor. Divide the perimeter by the length of the strip and round the resulting value up, and if the integer value of the number of stripes comes out, then feel free to add one more.

Plugs, connections, internal and external corners - all these are additional connecting elements designed to connect planks into a single strip, taking into account the repetition of the geometry of the room. Docking elements are selected according to the color and texture corresponding to the main product, and their number is calculated in advance.

It is unthinkable to make repairs and update the design of the apartment, and at the same time not make changes to the design of the bathroom.

A wide range of types of bathtubs is on sale: plastic acrylic bathtubs, traditional cast-iron bathtubs, steel and the like. For rooms with high humidity, it is recommended to use PVC panels in the repair, but what to do with the joints of the wall and the bath? Experts advise to definitely take the opportunity and close the junction of the bath and the wall from water ingress. It is recommended to use plinth for PVC panels. The bathtub bar will protect surfaces from moisture ingress, and, accordingly, from the development of fungus, bacteria, and mold.

A PVC skirting board for a bathtub completes its design and adds more decorative effect. You can always match it to your bathtub design: for example, a white acrylic bathtub is ideally matched with a plinth strip with a glossy PVC finish to match.

This type of PVC product is also subject to GOST 19111–2001, since it, like the floor product, is made from polyvinyl chloride.
