New Year's crafts from plywood (with your own hands). Christmas decorations made of wood with their own hands New Year's crafts do-it-yourself plywood houses

New Year's toys made of plywood, the templates of which can be found in our material, were previously used as the first decorations for the Christmas tree, since this material was affordable and easy to work with. But over time, they learned to make Christmas decorations from glass and other materials, so many began to forget that wood decorations also turn out to be very beautiful, and besides, they can be made by hand. We invite you to remember how amazing do-it-yourself plywood toys can be and learn how to make them yourself.

How to make your own plywood Christmas decorations

As already mentioned, wooden toys are made very easily, moreover, this process is very interesting and helps to develop creativity and imagination. It is enough to know what the design of the product looks like, arm yourself with the necessary equipment, time and, of course, imagination.

It is best to use plywood sheets for the manufacture of such toys, and here's why:

Even the so-called construction waste is enough for a toy: these are trimmings of whole sheets of plywood;
You can set the toy to absolutely any size, even if the product scheme involves some kind of large object, it can be made smaller.
Plywood toys do not break or break, which is especially convenient if pets live in the house, which are attracted by hanging decorations, and small children can also play with such toys, they simply cannot get hurt by caution.

Preparing the necessary equipment

First of all, you need to organize a work area for yourself. It can be a kitchen table covered with oilcloth so as not to damage the furniture. You can put another sheet of plywood on top of the oilcloth as an additional measure of "protection".

Drill with different drills;
Manual jigsaw or electric;
Fine sandpaper;
Hot glue or carpentry glue for attaching toy elements;
Acrylic paints and clear varnish;
Accessories for decor.

The first version of creating a toy

You can make the most ordinary, flat New Year's plywood toy according to patterns in the form of various fairy-tale characters or figures that are most typical for the holiday. To do this, simply cut the desired contour according to a pre-printed template. Here are some options for such templates:

You can also draw a figure on paper yourself, cut it out and also use it as a template.

When the template is ready, follow these instructions:

1. Using a pencil, circle the template so that the drawings of plywood toys are on the material itself.
2. It is necessary to cut the toy along the marked lines, using a jigsaw for this. If the jigsaw is electric, then everything will turn out quickly enough. If the jigsaw is manual, then it is important to cut strictly along the marked lines, otherwise the blade will jump off and cut off the excess.
3. Using a drill, cut out a small circle at the top of the toy.
4. With the help of sandpaper, it is necessary to process the cut places so that they are even and smooth, leaving no opportunity to drive a splinter.
5. And then it remains only to decorate the toy. It can be painted with acrylic paints, strewn with sparkles, glued on it with rhinestones, beads or beads. In this process, you can already safely use all your imagination.

Advice! If there is no time for decor, then you can stick a ready-made image to the toy, which can be printed on a computer.

The second option for creating toys from plywood

DIY toys can be made voluminous. You can not only hang them, but also put them on window sills, tables, like New Year's figurines for decoration.

Step-by-step instructions on how to make voluminous plywood toys:

1. First you need to also print out the template of the toy (and there will be several of them, since several parts are needed for voluminous toys) and transfer them to plywood.

2. To fasten the parts, you need to make markings for the holes, they will be marked on the diagram.
3. Connect the parts of the toy by inserting them into each other.
4. The decor of voluminous toys can be done at the stage when the parts are not yet connected to each other, or after the toy is assembled. As in the previous version, you can decorate toys in a variety of ways.

By designing plywood crafts for the New Year, we can not only get a whole set of themed decorations for the Christmas tree and for the whole house, but also have a good time. This work is quite simple, so you can do it in moments of rest, and the cost of acquiring materials will be minimal.

What will be needed for the manufacture of such crafts, as well as how we will perform the basic operations - we will tell in the article below.

Preparation for work

materials

Although the cost of Christmas toys can be quite budgetary, some people prefer to make them on their own. And plywood for crafts here turns out to be quite a suitable material - the products are quite light, strong and durable, in addition, if desired, they can be given almost any shape.

For the manufacture of Christmas toys and other crafts, we need:

  • plywood made of pine, spruce or birch veneer with a thickness of 3 to 10 mm;

Note! Thin plates can be bent, while thicker sheets are intended for the manufacture of parts that experience some operational load (frames, stands, etc.).

  • light fasteners - thin wire, miniature nails, pushpins, etc.;
  • impregnation to protect wood from moisture and ignition;
  • varnishes, paints and other materials for decorative processing.

As for the plywood itself, you need to choose the highest quality material possible. Selected parts (grade "E" - elite) or sheets of the first or second grades, with a minimum of knots, delaminations and other defects, are suitable for work.

It is very important that the material from which the decorative details will be made is dry. Wet plywood very often breaks jigsaw blades, therefore, before working, the workpiece should be kept for several days in a room with a constant temperature and low humidity.

Instruments

To make a set of plywood toys for the house with our own hands, we will need the simplest tools:

  • jigsaw, reciprocating saw or hacksaw;
  • jigsaw for;

Advice! If you decide to take woodworking seriously, then you should purchase an electric jigsaw for artistic carving. Of course, its price is quite high, but the use of such devices significantly reduces the complexity of the work.

  • drill and drill bits for wood of different diameters;
  • files and sandpaper for sanding wood;
  • brushes, rollers and other devices for applying decorative compositions.

New Year is a wonderful, mysterious holiday that you are waiting for almost all 365 days. Of course, he is more like that for kids who believe in Santa Claus and the Snow Maiden, the magical fulfillment of desires.
The most enjoyable activity is decorating the Christmas tree. Do you remember the old toys "from the grandmother's chest"? They are still relevant, interesting and give the holiday a touch of nostalgic thoughtfulness. There is enough variety on the shelves in stores to choose an attractive decor for Christmas trees, but how nice it is to make Christmas tree decorations from wood with your own hands.
For their manufacture, you can use almost any part of the tree: branches, pieces of wood, cut branches, cones. Plus, you will need additional decorative elements and some tools.

Snowflake from twigs

For this toy, you can take only natural materials, or you can use artificial ones or combine "natural" with "non-natural".

What is required from improvised materials

1. First, you need to pick up the base - branches of approximately the same thickness, broken off from one tree. It is better to remove the bark so that bark beetles do not start in it. Cut them to the desired length (the same or different depending on the idea).
2. The second step will be the preparation of spruce twigs. If you are for the conservation of nature, then use the better artificial option. In addition, they do not crumble over time. But their main disadvantage is the lack of a fresh winter spruce aroma.
3. Super glue is required to fasten all the elements.
4. Scissors or pruners will come in handy for cutting branches, ropes and other decor.
5. To decorate a snowflake, small bows, ropes, colored buttons will come in handy, you can take artificial berries, real bumps will also be good.
6. To attach the branches, you need a small square of felt.

How to make a snowflake from branches: step by step instructions

Even a child can make such a toy, the main thing is to prepare all the branches for him (cut, clean) so that he does not get hurt.
1. You will need 8 branches in total: 4 long and 4 short. If you wish, you can change the idea and make a toy only from long ones, or add more short ones, etc. It all depends on your imagination.
2. Arrange the branches in the desired form (sequence) on the table.
3. Prepare a piece of felt 1 by 1 cm. Glue four long branches to it in the form of a plus (+).
4. Insert and glue 4 short branches between the long ones.
5. In random order and in any desired quantity, glue spruce "legs". Their size can also be any, the main thing is that the structure eventually withstands the weight of all elements. In this example, it is better to take small pieces so as not to upset the balance.
6. Decorate the snowflake with buttons, berries, cones, tie a thick twine bow.
7. To make it more complicated, you can additionally cut even smaller, shorter branches and stick them on large and medium ones. So the design will become more voluminous and interesting.

You can make other, no less interesting, but easy-to-make wooden toys for the Christmas tree with your own hands.

Christmas tree toys made of wooden saw cuts

Needlework on the theme of Christmas toys can be endless. But there is a proven and absolutely easy to prepare "recipe". This is an ecological decor that will dress up any Christmas tree, and you can just hang it on the wall when you remove the green beauty.

To create such "rounds" you do not need any special skill of an artist or a wood burner, everything is extremely simple. The main thing is to prepare the round cuts themselves. To do this, you can find some old fallen tree in the forest and use its “gifts” with a calm soul.
With such balls, you can decorate the entire Christmas tree completely, or you can dilute them with standard glass balls, in any case it will turn out beautifully and elegantly.

What is required for the manufacture

To cut these Christmas decorations, you will need the following tools:
saw,
drill,
the gel pen.
The base is branches 5-7 cm thick, you can choose absolutely any tree, with or without bark - at will.

Manufacturing process

To begin with, using a file, divide the branch into even rounds, 1–1.5 cm thick, no longer worth it. If you do not know how to work with this tool, invite your husband, friend, neighbor in case of emergency, to whom this business is more convenient. With a tree of soft breed, you can handle it yourself.
A gel pen is useful for drawing. You do not need to have the skills of an artist, draw a snowflake, a Christmas tree, a snowman, some kind of cheerful face, whatever your heart desires. And if you still know how to draw well, make any picture you want.

The drawing can be done with a pencil, and then draw a soldering iron along the contour and burn it out, it will be much more effective and brighter.

Attach a thin drill to the drill to make a small hole for the rope in a wooden round. Thread ribbons or strong twine through the holes to hang the decoration on the Christmas tree.

To prolong the life of these wonderful decorations, cover them with acrylic varnish, preferably in 2 layers. Without it, the tree will last at best until next year.

The resulting toys are very cute and touching, they can be made together with the children, doing the main work of cutting, such children should hardly be trusted.

From such medium-sized cuts, excellent wreaths are obtained that can be hung on a door or wall.

Wooden toys - a tribute to the past

Christmas tree decorations made of wood are very relevant now. This is not only a beautiful decor, but also memories of the past. When we were little, almost everything was made from this natural material. Now this is a truly exclusive thing, because basically everything is made of artificially created materials: polymer clay, plastic, etc. The “eco” prefix has become fashionable.
With warmth in our souls, we remember those times when these homemade dolls and Christmas trees, snowflakes and fungi were hung on the Christmas tree on New Year's Eve. Wood is a warm material, it practically radiates sunlight, natural purity and freshness. Such toys are able to "revive" even artificial trees. These products can be durable and strong when processed properly.

One of the main advantages of homemade wooden toys is their safety both in relation to, for example, children who put everything in their mouths, and in relation to themselves: they do not fight, they are difficult to break, only if you make an effort, and no chemical substances are not released into the air.

Is plywood suitable for making Christmas tree toys?

Making Christmas tree toys from plywood is no more difficult than from wood. First, you can decorate the Christmas tree to your liking. Secondly, there are a lot of coloring options for such decor: from the simplest emoticons to more beautiful and interesting drawings of a more professional look.
As a basis, any plywood sheet is suitable, even an old one lying around after repair. This makes such material even more “valuable”, because you will not spend almost a penny on making a toy. You can get by with hand tools.
Set of tools:
jigsaw,
drill with different drills,
sandpaper,
hot glue for fixing.
As a decor you will need:
acrylic paints,
fixing varnish,
a variety of decorations: New Year's "rain", sequins, beads, beads, bows, ribbons, foil, etc.

Plywood Christmas tree decoration

The most popular option is to make fairy-tale characters or something traditional, relating only to the New Year theme. It can be Santa Claus, his staff, a Christmas tree, a snowman, a mitten or an English sock for gifts, etc. To do this, do it yourself or print templates from the Internet.
First trace the outline on a paper template on a plywood sheet. Then work with a jigsaw, carefully cutting out the workpiece.
Using a drill with a thin drill, make a mini hole in the top of the future toy to hang it later.
Sandpaper will be required to grind the saw cut to remove sharp edges.
The toy can be left in its original, raw form, along the contour, and so it will be clear what it is. But if you want to finish your creation, then you will need to try hard and decorate the toys or stick ready-made drawings.
To give the figure volume, glue buttons, beads, bows, etc. on it. The final step will be to coat the surface with acrylic varnish so that the paints do not crack, spread and last much longer.
Thread a twine or satin ribbon into the hole, tie a beautiful bow. The toy is ready!

Conclusion

As you can understand from this article, making Christmas tree decorations from wood with your own hands is not so difficult. It is enough to apply a little imagination, although, perhaps, it will not be required if you just look at the Internet, replete with various options for New Year's decorations. What is especially important, children can be attracted to this exciting activity - from small to large.

We will need:

I fell in love with these toys from the first time. Impossible to "get by".

1. We take plywood (we take what we have, but in particular I have 3mm) and draw the contours of those toys on it. which we would like to do. If you are doing it for the first time and, in principle, are not masters of working with a jigsaw, it is better to choose things that are simpler.

2. Cut out, drill holes in the place where we intend to insert the tape and be sure to sand it.

Plywood Christmas tree toys

We will need:

  • plywood blank
  • acrylic paints: white, blue, orange, red, green, brown, silver, gold
  • brushes (kolinsky, squirrel, synthetics) round No. 1 and 4, flat No. 8-10
  • cotton pads or a piece of foam rubber
  • cotton threads (for example, "Iris") - red and brown
  • thin crochet hook
  • scissors
  • PVA glue or "Moment
  • pencil

If you, like me, like needlework, if you have small children at home and you are afraid that they might get hurt on glass Christmas toys, if you want to decorate the Christmas tree with unique toys or give your friends an unforgettable gift, read this master class. Perhaps he will give you a solution to your problems :-)

I propose to make a Christmas tree toy "Merry Snowman". In my tutorial I use 6mm thick plywood, but if you are not ready to cut out of plywood, you can replace it with thick cardboard, or glue the blank from several layers of thin cardboard.

1. We take a flat wide brush and paint the “Head”, “Body”, “Legs” details with white paint, the “Gift” detail with red, and the “Mittens” with green. Do not forget that each part has two sides and an end.

2. We outline the elements of painting with a pencil: on the “Head” detail - eyes, nose with a carrot, mouth, eyebrows, cap; on the details of "Legs" - a pattern of knitted socks; on the detail "Gift" - a tape.

3. Mix white and blue paint to make a light blue color. With a round brush No. 4, we go over the details of the “Head”, “Body” and “Legs” with wide strokes, as if emphasizing the spherical shape of the snowman. We prepare the blue paint a little darker than the first one and with thinner strokes we strengthen the edges of the head, body and legs.

4. Rub the “snowy” parts of the snowman with silver paint using a cotton pad or foam swab to give them a frosty sheen.

5. With a round brush No. 1, draw a nose in the form of a carrot with orange paint. Having mixed red and white paint, we draw cheeks with the resulting pink color. Brown color draw eyebrows, eyes, mouth.

6. With red paint, brush No. 6, paint over the lapel of the cap and the elements of the socks.

7. With green paint and brush No. 2, we apply a pattern imitating knitting on a hat and socks. We make strokes short, as if repeating loops. Don't forget the end pieces.

Tip: to make the rows even, you can first mark them with a thin line with paint or pencil.

8. Using brown paint with a thin brush, with neat strokes, we outline the edges of the lapel of the cap, elastic band, sock and patches of knitted socks.

9. With gold paint, using brushes No. 2 or 4 as desired, draw an ornament on the box, a ribbon and a bow. With a thin brush of brown paint, we emphasize the shape of the bow. Because the box will be glued to the body of the snowman, the reverse side can not be painted, but at the ends it is still worth marking the bow and ribbon.

10. We knit a scarf for a snowman with a thin crochet hook from red threads. The scarf should be about 8-10 cm long. If you do not knit, you can make a scarf from fabric or braid.

11. We connect the head with the body, the body with the legs with the help of brown threads. In the hole on the mittens we fasten the thread folded in half. At a distance of 3-4 cm from the mittens, we tie a knot on the threads. We thread one thread into the hole on the body of the snowman and fix the resulting hand with a knot.

12. You can hang a Christmas tree toy on a brown thread or on a decorative ribbon (satin, nylon, with lurex).

13. Using PVA glue or “Moment”, we glue the “Gift Box” on the body. Glue the mittens one on the body of the snowman, one on the box as if he were holding the box with his hand.

14. We tie a scarf.

I wish you happy holidays and good mood!

If sawing out various decorative elements, wood burning or carving has become your new hobby, then our advice would be to start with a material such as plywood.

There are several significant reasons for this:

Plywood is easy to work with.

If you have a good tool in your hands, and you start with small figurines, then making them will take you only a couple of hours.

The material is universal in use, so you can literally make anything you want from it: furniture, toys, small decorative elements.

All this can be a wonderful addition to the interior of your home.

Features of working with the material

What is a plywood sheet. It consists of several sheets of veneer at once, which are interconnected with glue.

Important: plywood can be of different types: based on beech, birch, pine.

Not only the quality of the finished product, but even its structure and color depends on which sheet you choose.

If you are going to cut out various figures with a jigsaw, then you need to choose the highest quality varieties of plywood.

They are distinguished by their special strength, which ensures that the plywood does not crack, spoiling the entire appearance of the product at the most unpredictable moment.

If you are going to start work immediately, immediately on the day of purchase, then choose only dry sheets of wood.

They will not break a jigsaw file every 10 minutes.

To work with plywood, you will need to acquire a number of tools.

In principle, they are always the same for all types of products, so only a one-time investment is required:

  • jigsaw
  • Jigsaw files
  • Hand or electric drill
  • Ruler
  • grinding machine
  • Burner.

Framework

If you want to beautifully decorate your home or present an original gift to someone close to you, make a plywood frame with your own hands.

The preparation process will not take you much time, because you only need to get the necessary materials.

Note!

They are standard for all cases, and we have already mentioned them before.

We will offer you workshops on light plywood crafts. You can make both a regular straight frame and carve various patterns and figures on it.

First you need to make a template, and after that you can cut it out, trace the outlines with a pencil on plywood and start the manufacturing process.

This stage is not only the most responsible, but also the most exciting. If you put a piece of your soul into the work, everything will definitely work out. The finished structure must be varnished. Ready!

doll furniture

This task will be a real test for parents.

Note!

The so-called test of acquired design skills.

A feature of the creation of doll furniture is that children absolutely do not tolerate falsehood.

If they see that the furniture has not been worked out in detail, and instead of a stove for your favorite doll, you brought an ordinary rectangular bar, then you simply cannot avoid serious insults and childish disappointments.

The second feature of making such crafts from plywood using a jigsaw is that all this furniture must be carefully worked out with sandpaper or a grinder.

Your child will constantly be in contact with these self-made toys, and in the case of poorly finished edges, they may get hurt.

Note!

Well, the last feature of crafts from plywood and at home is that the materials for such furniture must be absolutely non-toxic and normal for constant contact with the child, because he can drag it into his mouth or take it to bed with him.

This is not a simple application or paper craft, so you need to take it seriously, following a whole list of actions that need to be completed.

Performing work from plywood

Just as simple furniture is made in detail, and then assembled into one piece of furniture, do-it-yourself plywood crafts should be done separately.

To do this, first of all, prepare special drawings of plywood crafts, on which you specify the dimensions of all parts and their fastenings.

Take the finished plywood sheet and attach the paper part template to it.

Circle the part with a pencil and cut along the contour with a jigsaw.

After that, each detail must be cleaned with sandpaper or a grinder, and only then must the piece of furniture be assembled.

When you're done with the whole set, open it up with varnish.

Below are different options and photos of plywood crafts. Choose the one you like.
