Cork sealant. Use of liquid cork for interior decoration. Common application errors

One of the modern building materials is liquid cork. It is a filler of cork chips and an elastic binder.

Application:

  • It is used for filling joints between parquet and walls, tiles, etc. The main advantage of liquid cork is high resistance to various temperatures, high elastic properties and no shrinkage. In fact, it is a liquid cork sealant consisting of liquid cork chips.
  • Liquid cork due to its remarkable properties can be used for noise and thermal insulation. So she can process the seams between window frames, doors and partitions.
  • Cork is a set of cells filled with air, thanks to which it retains heat well and has good sound insulation. The surface on which the liquid cork is applied must be dry, even and clean, so it is advisable to prepare it in advance.
  • To reduce adhesion to the surface, you can pre-apply a primer. The liquid cork itself is applied with a gun or spatula, evenly filling the seams. If the work takes place on the street, then for additional protection of the seams from negative climatic influences, it is desirable to apply a sealant.
  • Liquid cork is a great example of the combination of environmental friendliness of natural material and modern technology. Thus, the advantages of natural cork are preserved and at the same time its disadvantages are eliminated - low elasticity, low resistance to mechanical damage, low adhesion.

The main advantages of liquid cork:

  • seams are resistant to low temperatures and frosts;
  • the seam is sufficiently elastic and does not lead to deformation of structures;
  • good sound insulation;
  • high mechanical strength and fracture resistance;
  • good thermal insulation; - does not shrink.

If you need additional information on this material, you can always contact our consultants. They will tell you when the use of liquid stopper is most appropriate, what are the features of its use and will give recommendations on choosing the right brand of liquid stopper.

WHAT IS CORK SEALANT?

It is a mixture of crushed cork oak bark and a water-based elastic binder. Oak bark is crushed into crumbs with a fraction of 0.5 to 1.0 mm, mixed with a binder and stabilizing additives, diluted with water to the required density and packaged on special equipment in briquettes!

Why is cork oak bark used, you ask? Everything is quite simple - this is the only product of plant origin with a porous structure (more than 40 ml of cells filled with a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen per 1 cubic cm), which has unique properties of heat saving, hypoallergenicity, moisture protection and environmental friendliness! The mass fraction of the binder in the product is negligible and is about 5%, water as a diluent is 8%, and the rest is cork chips 87%, it is due to the balanced composition that ISOCORK cork sealant is recognized by construction market experts as an environmentally friendly product.

WHERE IS CORK SEALANT USED?

Every year we begin to value our comfort more and more. The house we live in should be built from environmentally friendly materials, the windows had no gaps, the wall panels were properly insulated, the seams in the interior partitions were soundproof. We try to bring our home to modern requirements, create coziness, comfort in it, and most importantly, protect ourselves from unnecessary heating costs. As you already know, the seams are completely different and each has its own design solution, and in order for the seam to work correctly and not cause you discomfort, it must be arranged correctly. For this, cork sealant "ISOCORK" was developed.

Cork sealant "ISOCORK" is able to solve a lot of problems and various tasks:

  • Heat-noise-waterproofing of interpanel joints in various kinds of structures;
  • Filling of seams during assembly and repair of prefabricated reinforced concrete houses;
  • Filling joints in classic wooden housing construction and construction from SIP panels;
  • Arrangement of mounting seams when installing windows and doors;
  • Filling gaps, making joints and transitions when laying laminate, parquet, and various floor and wall materials;
  • The device of expansion joints;
  • Soundproofing of empty joints in interior partitions and in the arrangement of interfloor overlapping;

CAUTION: Cork sealant can improve the sound insulation of an empty joint by more than 27 dB.

Insulation and sealing of seams in a wooden house is the most important stage in the construction or comprehensive care of an already finished building.

The Russian Cork Company has developed a unique material that not only has the advantage of acrylic sealants - elasticity, which allows the sealant to compress and expand depending on the ambient temperature and humidity, but also combines the property of a heat insulator, tk. in its composition, the most effective insulation is cork oak bark. ISOCORK cork sealant consists of 87% cork oak bark, resulting in a unique heat-saving property.

The main area of application of ISOCORK cork sealant is the sealing of joints in log and chopped wooden houses. The most important task of sealing wooden house is - reducing heat loss. By filling cracks with ISOCORK cork sealant, you will receive thermal insulation, waterproofing, and a decorative appearance.

When using acrylic sealant for sealing, it must be borne in mind that its vapor permeability properties are very small. As a result, when sealing on the one hand, at the junction of a beam or log, condensate will form, and subsequently it will be dampness, the reproduction of fungus and mold. To avoid this, sealing must be done from the inside and outside, which will double the cost. When using ISOCORK cork sealant, it is sufficient to insulate the walls on only one side, since its vapor permeability is many times higher than conventional acrylic sealant.

ISOCORK cork sealant is available in white and natural cork as standard. When dry, it acquires the color of natural cork, namely light brown or ivory (light beige). Optionally, the sealant can be made in any color upon prior request.

DURABILITY AND UNIQUENESS

The durability and uniqueness of ISOCORK cork sealant is achieved due to the fact that cork crumb is not subject to decay, shrinkage and retains its original appearance throughout its entire service life - cork is a truly eternal material, and the elastic base complements the properties of cork and creates an insoluble film that can resist any whims of nature! Proper application and use of sealant will provide reliable waterproofing, excellent noise reduction and heat conservation for many years. The service life of the filled joint is at least 20 years.

Sealant production is carried out on modern equipment, and incoming quality control of raw materials allows us to keep the brand and product quality at the highest level, which is confirmed by the GOST R ISO 9001 quality certificate.

And the most important thing iscomplete solutionproblems with Heat-Hydro and Noise Insulation. Using Cork sealant you can easily replace traditional materials (jute, tow, sealants, polyurethane foam), which will save your time and money. When sealing joints, Cork sealant is the only sealant that has the property of a heat insulator. At the same time, the cost of sealing with cork sealant is more economical than performing sealing work in the traditional way.

Cork sealant is a product consisting of 87% crushed cork oak bark, 5% elastic binder (acrylic) and 8% water. The only product of plant origin with a porous structure (more than 40 ml of cells filled with a mixture of nitrogen and oxygen per 1 cubic cm), which has unique properties of heat saving, hyperallergenicity, moisture protection and environmental friendliness! When sealing between logs, a protective film is formed due to the acrylic binder, which prevents the seam from external influences and any natural conditions!

Areas of use:

.Heat-noise-waterproofing of interpanel joints in various kinds of structures;

Joints between wall and parquet;

Seams and gaps between logs;

Along the perimeter of door and window frames;

Filling joints in classic wooden housing construction and construction from SIP panels;

Frost-resistant;

Does not shrink;

Has no smell

How to work with cork sealant?

It is easy and simple to work with cork sealant "CORKSRIBAS", application does not require special skills and experience. The sealant has good adhesion to almost all bases and types of substrates used in construction (concrete, wood, CSP, OSB, ceramics, glass, metal, plastic). If the joint to be filled or the base is dirty and has a large porosity, then the surface to be treated must be cleaned and moistened with water, which prevents the rapid removal of water from the body of the sealant and favorably affects the uniformity of drying of the filled joint.

Step-by-step instruction:

Step 1: If necessary, prepare the seam or base for applying sealant - clean and dedust.

Step 2: Prepare a tool: a closed-type gun, a spatula, a trowel for sealing and smoothing the seam, a damp sponge for cleaning excess sealant.

Step 3: Protect the adjacent surface with covering material, cut the edges of the seam with masking tape, evenly fill the seam with sealant using a gun or spatula, smooth the seam with a trowel with light pressure to seal the seam until an even surface is formed (if necessary, the trowel can be moistened with water), remove excess cork sealant with a damp sponge until it dries (ATTENTION: after complete drying, the sealant can only be removed mechanically, which can lead to damage to the seam edges and adjacent bases).

Step 4: After completing the work, wash the tool with warm water or soapy water. The material is not dangerous, non-toxic, non-flammable. When performing work does not require the use of PPE. In the case of outdoor work, after application, protect the seam from precipitation until completely dry. Works are carried out in the temperature range from +5 to +80°C.

Consumption of cork sealant depends on the joint being filled, on average, one briquette is designed for 5 running meters with a joint section of 10x10mm. The time of complete drying depends on the thickness of the sealant layer, the temperature and humidity of the environment, and on average is about 24 to 48 hours.

When it comes to the use of sealants, in the vast majority of cases they are intended for sealing small gaps (after all, large holes are easier and more efficient to seal with plaster).

It goes without saying that in order to fill the smallest leaks, it is required that the consistency of the substance be liquid - otherwise it will simply not penetrate well. So the category of liquid sealants is quite popular and relevant.
