Gkl dimensions. Types and sizes of drywall sheets. Average cost of rack profiles

When installing frame structures, gypsum board sheets are used as the material for sheathing, which are rectangular slabs with a gypsum base and a sheath made of thick paper. Consider the classification, features of use in various conditions and determine the main dimensions of drywall.

Note that this material, according to the specifics of its application, can have different properties and is divided into several types. Features of the GKL must be taken into account, when choosing them, strictly individually for each room.

Types and sizes of Knauf drywall sheets

The world standard of materials for the production of frame-sheathing structures is the products of the German company Knauf. The company's specialists distinguish several main types of drywall sheets.

  • GKL - the common name of a building and finishing material also implies a type intended for sheathing frame structures installed in rooms with normal humidity (“dry”). The standard size of drywall is 2500x1200x12.5. The mass of such a sheet is 29 kg. It is easy to distinguish by gray cardboard and blue markings.
  • GKLV - moisture resistant drywall. Special hydrophobic additives are added to its gypsum "core", the cardboard is treated with a water-repellent composition, and the size of this type of gypsum board is the same as the previous one. Weight is also 29 kg. Differs in green color of a cardboard and blue marking.
  • GKLO - fire-resistant type. It has good resistance to open fire. Gypsum filler is fired at high temperatures and impregnated with solutions that contain reinforcing substances. The mass of a plasterboard sheet measuring 2500x1200x12.5 mm is 30.6 kg. Its front side is painted pink, and the markings are red.
  • GKLVO - combines the properties of fire and moisture resistance. This material undergoes complex processing that enhances all these qualities. With standard dimensions of the GKLVO, its weight is 30.6 kg. Differs in green color of a cardboard and red marking.
  • FIREBOARD - a special type of drywall with increased fire resistance. Such boards can withstand the impact of a flame for more than an hour without losing their technological properties. With dimensions of 2500x1200x12.5 mm, it weighs 31.5 kg. It should be noted that the thickness of the reinforced FIGHTERBOARD is 20 mm. You can distinguish such material by the red color of the cardboard and the same marking.

Of course, the geometric dimensions of drywall sheets mentioned by us (according to KNAUF) are the main values. Accordingly, it is necessary to specify what other parameters the material can have. The length of drywall boards can be 2000; 2500; 3000; 3500 and 4000 mm. The most common width is 1200 mm, however, there is also a small format drywall. Its width is 600 mm. The thickness of the KNAUF sheet depends on its type, features and purpose and can be 6.5; eight; 9.5; 12.5; fourteen; sixteen; eighteen; 20; and 24 mm.

The material has a symbol (marking) that determines the properties and size of the GKL and consists of:

  • Letters denoting:
    1. Group (by flammability, toxicity, etc.).
    2. View of the longitudinal edges.
  • Numbers indicating:
    1. Drywall sheet size values (length, width, thickness in mm).
    2. Compliance standard (GOST).

Features of indoor use

We have already said that ordinary GKL is used for installing frame structures and wall cladding in rooms with normal humidity. The versatility and various sizes of GKL allow it to be used both in the manufacture of various partitions and in the installation of suspended ceilings. Consider where you can apply other types of material:

  • Moisture resistant (GKLV) - can be used in rooms with high humidity - bathrooms and kitchens. The water-repellent properties and standard dimensions of this type of drywall allow it to be used as a base for ceramic tiling.
  • Fire-resistant (GKLO) - used in rooms that have special fire safety requirements. It is used in the decoration of offices and factory floors as both "wall" and "ceiling" drywall. The dimensions and properties of the material also make it possible to use it in the arrangement of the attic space of residential buildings.
  • Moisture-resistant (GKLVO) - used in rooms where high humidity is combined with high temperatures. It can be used to create frame ceilings and partitions in baths and saunas. The dimensions of the moisture-resistant drywall coincide with the parameters of the fire-resistant type. With a length of 2000 to 4000 mm, its width is 1200 mm, and the thickness can be either 12.5 or 16 mm.

Features of the use of GKL in structures

It is necessary to say a few more words about the classification of the material, depending on the features of its application in a particular frame structure.

  • "Wall" - when installing partitions or finishing walls, slabs with a thickness of 12.5 mm are mainly used. Naturally, if a structure of increased strength is required, it is necessary to increase this parameter, which can always allow a variety of drywall sizes.
  • "Ceiling" - for sheathing the frame of a false ceiling, a material with a thickness of 9.5 mm is most often used, since the use of a thicker one will significantly increase the weight of the structure.
  • "Arched" - suitable for mounting structures that have a curved shape (arches, curly partitions, etc.). To the question of what size of sheet the drywall for arches has, we will answer - it does not matter, the main thing is that its thickness does not exceed 6.5 mm. Only this parameter gives good opportunities for creating elements of any curved shape.

Having told you about the features of drywall, I would like to add - what size drywall sheets have and the type to which it belongs - of course, important factors that must be taken into account at the stage of design work. However, the main feature of the GKL is that in the rooms finished with its help, a special atmosphere is formed that is most favorable for human life.

We are waiting for your feedback and comments on the topic of repair work and interior decoration. You can always ask questions to our experienced specialists and get a qualified and competent answer.

This article is an introduction to a series of drywall articles. In this cycle, we will consider the use of drywall in various designs in stages. Articles in this series, and.

In this article we will look at what drywall is, what types of drywall are, what is their difference. Here are the main standard dimensions of drywall and the dimensions of profiles for drywall.

Drywall definition

Drywall- this is a slab (sheet), finishing material, consisting of a layer of mineral base - gypsum, and several layers of paper on both sides, which perform two functions:

  • protective function: paper on the front surface is resistant to abrasion (everything, of course, is relative);
  • paper works in tension and restrains the internal stress of gypsum, which can occur during work with it, and during the operation of already finished surfaces.

Paper does not work for compression, we will use both of these properties when working with drywall.

Types of drywall

Ordinary drywall (gypsum plasterboard). It is intended for finishing walls, partitions and ceilings in dry heated rooms.

Moisture resistant drywall (VGKL). The board is impregnated with water-repellent and anti-fungal impregnation, and the core is developed using additives that significantly reduce moisture absorption. It is used for wet rooms: bathrooms, kitchens, garages.

Fire-resistant drywall (GKlO). The inner part of such sheets contains mineral fibers and additives that give increased fire resistance to the skin of such drywall. It is used in places with increased fire safety requirements.

Drywall dimensions

The standard dimensions of drywall sheets are as follows: the standard length is 2.5 and 3 m, width 1.2 m, sheet thickness: 6 mm, 9 mm, 12.5 mm. Although most manufacturers usually offer a larger range. For example, compact sheets measuring 1200x600x12.5 mm are easier to work with, but they are a little more expensive, and more running meters of joints will have to be sealed.

Important: the minimum thickness of the wall sheathing is 12.5 mm. Smaller thicknesses: 6 and 9 mm are available for arched, curved, radius surfaces. And, if it is necessary to perform, for example, a radius partition, then 9 mm sheets should be used in 2 layers.
The widespread opinion that 9 mm GKL is needed for ceilings is erroneous; 12.5 mm sheets must also be used for ceilings. This is information that the manufacturer gives, and not the seller in the store, who is unlikely to practice the use of GKL.

The choice of drywall. What to look for when buying drywall and profiles

  • They tried to sell me packing lists on several occasions. This is an ordinary drywall sheet, in principle, exactly the same as all the sheets in a pack, but ... The manufacturer releases finished sheets from the conveyor on large pallets in packs. These packs are repeatedly slinged, lifted by carts, and other loading equipment. The bottom sheet breaks from this, and the manufacturer, knowing this, prints on this bottom sheet without the standard marking: “Packing list”. This sheet should not be sold, it should be thrown away like a waste, but on several occasions I had to explain to the sellers that I did not need a fight.
  • The sheets should not have broken corners, torn paper, they should be stored in a horizontal position in covered warehouses.
  • When buying all components, pay attention to the thickness of the metal and the rigidity of the products.

GK profiles: UD and CD

The CD profile should not be crushed by hand, and if you take the UD profile by the edge with one hand and lift it, then the profile should not give the impression that it is about to break under its own weight. The strength of the entire structure depends on the thickness of the metal

High-quality and low-quality profile

  • Often, primed ends of profiles indicate poor galvanizing, or improper storage. Galvanization should shine evenly, it should not have white spots.
  • Drywall profiles CD and UD are standard in 3 and 4 m lengths, although at the factory, by prior order, they can be made in any length. This can be justified if, for example, you need to sheathe walls higher than 4 meters, then you do not have to splice CDs in length. But on small volumes, usually there is not much waste left, because a lot of “short men” are used.

In the next article, we'll cover the basics.

When we sheathe a ceiling or walls, make light ceilings and partitions, sometimes it doesn’t occur to us that there might be some other material that would be so ideally suited for solving these problems. He was born in 1894, on May 22. It was then that the American engineer Sackett filed a patent for a new material for construction and finishing works. He simply glued several sheets of paper together, laying plaster between them. Thus, drywall was born, an excellent building material, which we will talk about today.

Characteristics and materials of drywall

Arches, columns, suspended ceilings, curved structures and walls are just the tip of the iceberg in the list of drywall applications. At the heart of the drywall sheet is a core of gypsum, which is lined with thick cardboard. Cardboard can have a variety of textures and colors, but mostly it is smoother and lighter on the front side, and dark and rough on the back. The percentage of materials in the production of drywall is approximately as follows:

  • 1% additives and auxiliary elements;
  • 6% cardboard of different density;
  • 93% building plaster.

Thanks to such a simple composition, the price of a drywall sheet is more than democratic, and it is very simple in laying and installation. Drywall can be of several types, and it is labeled precisely on this basis - drywall is ordinary, moisture-resistant, fire-resistant, and the most expensive of them is moisture-refractory. Under normal conditions, only standard drywall is used, and in rooms with high humidity - moisture resistant.

The composition of moisture-resistant drywall includes special additives that increase its water-repellent properties. Some manufacturers treat moisture-resistant drywall with an antiseptic that resists the formation of fungus and mold. It is quite appropriate to choose such sheets if they are installed in a country house or in a country house, since in private houses the humidity is always slightly higher than in high-rise buildings.

Drywall - sheet dimensions

The dimensions of drywall are its most important characteristic, since in terms of properties it is almost all the same, not counting the special pyrine and water-repellent impregnations that make it refractory or moisture resistant. The main parameters that interest the consumer are the length and width. Thickness matters in certain conditions of use, which we'll talk about a little later. We will build on the standard sizes that manufacturers offer us. There are few of them - 2.5x1.2 meters or 3x1.2. It is possible to manufacture sheets of non-standard size on order, but it is technologically possible to produce a sheet up to 4 meters in length.

As for the thickness of the material, it can be 6.6, 9.5, 12.5 mm. The thickness of the sheet is a very important parameter, since the purpose of the sheet depends on it. To perform structures that involve curved surfaces, use the thinnest 6.5 mm drywall. With proper preparation, it bends well, does not crumble, and the inner layer of cardboard firmly holds the gypsum on the surface. In addition, such material is much lighter than a thick sheet.

If drywall is required for ceiling sheathing, then it should be light in weight, but at the same time have a certain deflection strength, as well as to hold light structures - lamps, ventilation nets and other light equipment. It is for these purposes that drywall with a thickness of 9.5 mm is produced. The densest and heaviest sheet is used for the construction of partitions and wall cladding. In addition, it should be borne in mind that the thickness of drywall greatly affects its soundproofing properties, therefore, a heavy and thick 12.5 mm sheet is most often used for walls. The thicker the sheet, the stronger it is, and the more resistant it is to the equipment that can be hung on it. It is for this reason that sometimes 2 12.5 mm sheets are used on one wall.

Other characteristics of drywall

The bending strength of the sheet can be very important under some conditions. This parameter is standardized by GOST 6266-97, and directly depends on the thickness of the material and the tensile strength of the cardboard. It is unlikely that anyone will check the load at home with a dynamometer, but for decency, we still give the parameters that the GKL must correspond to - 322 N across, and 105 N along - this is how much the correct sheet 12.5 mm thick should withstand.

Drywall - price per sheet

The price of a drywall sheet can vary within fairly serious limits, since the more popular the brand, the more environmentally friendly, stronger, more durable the sheet is. We will not argue, we will simply give some average prices. The most famous manufacturer in our market is the company Knauf. Their price for a sheet of standard sizes with a thickness of 9.5 mm is 227 rubles, and a sheet of 12.5 mm will cost about 300 rubles. This is sufficient for guidance.

In general, drywall is a reliable and high-quality material, the price of which is highly dependent on the manufacturer. Therefore, it is worth choosing foliage only focusing on your own intuition.

Drywall is one of the most popular building materials. The main advantage of the material is that its use allows you to expand the range of design solutions and create structures of various shapes, decorate walls and ceilings in any room. This article discusses the parameters that allow you to choose the right drywall: price per sheet, dimensions, thickness, purpose, and others.

The main material that is part of the drywall sandwich is gypsum. It is a natural salt, which is formed naturally from sea water.

In order to obtain a gypsum plasterboard (GCR), the extracted raw material must undergo pre-treatment, which includes two processes:

  • burning. The temperature at which such a process takes place is approximately 180–190°C;
  • grinding.

For the manufacture of GKL of the desired shape, a solution is mixed with water, sometimes fiberglass is added. It is a component that significantly increases the deformation resistance of GKL, and also positively affects the refractory qualities. On both sides of the gypsum sheet, cardboard is fixed, which is environmentally friendly. Such cardboard is made from cellulose and impregnated at the production stage with special flame retardant additives.

The main types of drywall sheets

Depending on the purpose and technical features, all GCRs are divided into the following types:

  • standard;
  • moisture resistant;
  • fire resistant;
  • waterproof and fireproof;
  • acoustic.

Standard and moisture resistant plasterboard sheet 12 mm. Price per sheet and specifications

Standard GKL is used when it is necessary to perform interior finishing work. With the help of standard GKL, walls are leveled, and partitions, multi-level ceilings, etc. are equipped. To calculate materials for finishing work, you need to know the length and height of drywall sheets. Sheet dimensions are usually 2500x1200 mm. Cardboard for standard sheets is gray and is indicated by blue markings. Standard GKL are used in rooms with normal humidity.

Moisture-resistant plasterboard sheets are used in rooms whose humidity level exceeds the permissible values. But its use is advisable only if the room has an exhaust ventilation system. In turn, the front surface of the sheet must be provided with a waterproofing material (paint, primer, PVC coating).

The dimensions of the moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard are the same as those of standard gypsum boards. Such sheets are used for the construction of slopes. GKLV in combination with waterproofing materials are used for sheathing work surfaces in rooms with a high level of humidity. These include the bathroom.

Helpful information! Moisture-resistant drywall is characterized by increased strength; it can be used for decoration of public premises.

The material includes various hydrophobic additives, due to which the sheet is able to absorb a minimum amount of moisture (no more than 10%). In this case, the sheet has a green color and is indicated by a blue marking. The price and size of a moisture-resistant drywall sheet may vary. However, products of standard sizes (2500x1200x12 mm) range from 295 to 395 r per sheet.

Fire-resistant, water-resistant and acoustic drywall

Refractory building products are used when it is necessary to finish the surface, which is located in close proximity to the source of fire (for example, the inner surface). This is exactly the option, which is mixed with fiberglass, which makes it resistant to fire.

Refractory sheets are used in rooms where the humidity level may be low or normal. Cardboard in this case can be either pink or red. Gypsum plasterboard refractory sheets are marked red.

Waterproof and refractory gypsum board (GKLVO) has a high fire resistance coefficient, and also has a reduced water absorption. The combination of properties allows the use of such plasterboard sheets in baths and steam rooms. However, it can also be used for ordinary interior finishing work. GKLVO sheet cardboard is distinguished by green color and red marking.

Acoustic GKL differ from other varieties in that it has a high sound insulation coefficient. This property makes it possible to use this material for finishing walls and ceilings in concert halls, dance studios, as well as rooms where sound recording is made. The main difference between acoustic drywall and standard drywall is that its surface has holes, with a cross section of about 1 cm. The reverse side of acoustic plasterboard is equipped with a coating that does an excellent job of absorbing sound waves.

Dimensions of drywall sheets: length, height and thickness

The standard length of the GKL is 2.5 m, and the width is 1.2 m. The following dimensions can also be attributed to the standard length: 3 and 3.5 m. In addition to standard sizes, you can find plasterboard sheets in markets and hardware stores, the length of which maybe 4 m. Sometimes there are sheets with a length of 1.2 m (small). The dimensions and prices of drywall are interconnected. For example, sheets with a thickness of 9.5 mm are cheaper than twelve-millimeter products.

The standard width of a drywall sheet is 1200 mm (1.2 m), however, there are products on sale in which this figure can be 2 times lower (625 mm). Such sheets will cost less.

As for the thickness of the GCR, the standard indicators include the following:

  • 12.5mm;
  • 9.5 mm.

Deviation from the thickness standard is also a common practice. If necessary, you can purchase GKL with a thickness of 6.6 mm. In this case, their mass will be much lower, as well as the cost of drywall per sheet. There are also sheets with a different thickness - from 8 to 24 mm, which can significantly expand their operational area.

Differences between wall and ceiling plasterboard

The dimensions of wall drywall in the form of sheets may be different, however, they are all considered standard. The length of the wall plasterboard varies from 2000 to 4000 mm. The minimum width is 625mm and the maximum width is 1200mm. The standard thickness of drywall, which is used for wall cladding, is 12.5 mm.

Note! For wall decoration, sheets are most often used, the dimensions of which are 2500x1200x12.5 mm.

If it is necessary to sheathe walls in an apartment or house with high ceilings, then it is recommended to use sheets with the greatest length (4 m). Thus, we can conclude that the dimensions of the GKL are selected depending on the specific situation.

Drywall used for ceiling mounting should be lighter in itself to make the installation process as easy as possible. For sheathing ceilings, GKL with a thickness of 8 or 9.5 mm is used. The minimum thickness makes it possible to reduce the weight of the suspended ceiling, which in turn reduces financial costs when purchasing profiles for fixing drywall.

The price of a plasterboard ceiling is much lower than in the case of installing wall material. If necessary, you can use the services of professionals who, on average, take about 250 rubles. for the installation of 1 square meter of plasterboard ceiling. The price per m2 of drywall installation on the wall and ceiling also depends on the complexity of the work.

Overview of the cost of installing GKL:

The price per m2 of installation of plasterboard partitions is calculated depending on the number of layers of drywall (1 or 2), as in other cases. Thus, we can conclude that the prices per sq. m. of drywall installation differ depending on the installation site, the complexity of the work (including the creation of curly elements), the number of layers of gypsum material, etc.

In order to answer a common question: how much drywall sheets weigh, you need to familiarize yourself with the data presented below. The table below shows the dependence of the weight of the GKL on their dimensions.

GKL weight dependence on dimensions:

Knauf products are manufactured by a German company that has a good reputation in the construction market. Consider the main advantages of this brand:

  • drywall sheets of this brand are lightweight, which significantly reduces labor costs during their installation. A standard sheet of Knauf drywall 12.5 mm weighs approximately 29 kg (with an area of 3 sq. M). Low weight allows you to save on the number of profiles;

  • the use of such GKL allows you to choose the installation option on the work surface;
  • ease of installation. Installation of Knauf plasterboard can be performed by any owner who does not have special construction skills and knowledge. All that is needed for the correct installation of the GKL of this brand is to follow the instructions.

Note! Even ordinary KNAUF GCRs have a good sound insulation index.

Thus, Knauf gypsum plasterboards are the undisputed leaders in sales and are recommended as the main material for wall and ceiling cladding.

How much does drywall cost: an overview of the types and prices of various modifications

For each person who is going to use GKL for the interior decoration of his house or apartment, first of all, you need to study how much a drywall sheet costs. Prices that can be found on the Internet vary depending on the brands and sizes of the GKL. The price can be indicated both per square meter of material, and for a full sheet.

To date, there are quite different, in terms of cost, drywall sheets. If you wish, you can purchase very cheap products, the price of which will be no more than 150 rubles. per sheet. Inexpensive drywall will save on repairs, but you need to understand that when buying cheap material, you should not rely on high quality products. After all, the quality of any building material directly depends on its price. You can buy drywall in sheets with high quality standards from 230 to 250 rubles. per piece

As mentioned above, the price of this finishing material also depends on the manufacturer's company. For example, the price of Knauf drywall is somewhat higher than in the case of other brands. For example, the cheapest sheets from this German manufacturer range from 220 to 240 rubles. per piece More expensive GKL from the KNAUF brand can be purchased for 300-340 rubles.

Profiles for drywall: sizes and prices

Today you can find different profiles for drywall. The size and cost of these products also vary. The thickness of the metal profiles from the German manufacturer Knauf ranges from 0.5 to 0.8 mm. The ability to choose different thicknesses allows you to assemble frames that can withstand the required weight.

Helpful information! Profiles for drywall are equipped with anti-corrosion protection by means of galvanizing at the production stage. This procedure allows you to enhance their strength properties and extend the service life as a whole.

Profiles can have a different design, which allows you to perform building models of any configuration. Depending on the design features, all profiles are divided into several varieties.

Length of profiles of different types:

Rack profiles: description, use and prices

In the international nomenclature of building materials, such products are designated by the Latin letters CW. Such profiles are most often used for the installation of metal battens. Metal battens are needed to fix the plasterboard on false walls or ceilings.

The algorithm for using rack profiles is as follows:

  1. First of all, the rack-mount strips are inserted into the guides, which are fixed along the perimeter of the false wall (or ceiling).
  2. Next, the profiles are aligned in the desired plane.

The structure made of profiles is the basis for further installation of the GKL. Planks, which are of the rack type, are produced in a width of 60 mm, and their height is 27 mm. The length of the rack bar can be different (from 2 to 6 meters).

If the length of the bar does not correspond to the specified goal, then it is possible to combine two or more bars into one profile. Docking of individual slats is carried out with the help of special fixing elements. If desired, the strips can be connected in such a way that they are perpendicular to each other.

Such profiles may have different markings, depending on the manufacturer. Marking of rack slats can be as follows:

  • CD (Knauf);
  • PP (Giprok).

The price of a profile for rack-mount drywall varies from 150 to 400 rubles per package. The range of prices is due to different brands of products, as well as dimensions. Packages most often contain a standard number of parts (12 pieces).

The average cost of rack profiles:

Guide profiles

This type of profile has the international designation UW. These products are produced in the shape of the letter "P". From the name we can conclude that such products are used as guide elements. When assembling the frame structure, racks or guides are fixed to them, after which drywall is installed. Prices for guide profiles vary depending on the length of the product.

The guide bar is 28 mm wide and 27 mm high. The guide rails are fixed to the work surface using dowels. The length of the guide part can be different (from 2.5 to 6 m).

Ceiling and arched profiles

The international designation of the ceiling profile is CD. Ceiling strips are used for quick assembly of frame structures that are fixed to the ceiling and then sheathed with plasterboard.

The thickness of the ceiling strips varies from 0.45 to 0.55 mm. The standard length of the ceiling profile is 3 m. The most common ceiling strips with dimensions of 60x27 mm.

The average cost of a ceiling profile:

A variety of arched planks differs from the rest in that they have a curvilinear shape. Arched planks are used to organize arched openings and other structures that have a complex shape.

Such products are marked with Latin letters CD and UD. When mounting such parts, it is possible to bend them along the required radius. This possibility is realized due to the fact that the body of this type of profile is supplied with holes and cuts at the manufacturing stage.

In the building materials market and in specialized stores, you can often find ready-made (curved) profiles. The bending radius of such a profile can vary from 0.5 to several meters, and the length from 2 to 6 m. Profiles of this type have a fairly wide range of prices. You can buy a profile for arched drywall for both 30 and 200 rubles. Here, the design feature of the part plays a very important role.

Helpful information! It often happens that a profile with the required radius is not found on sale, and even straight arched notched models are not available. In this case, experienced craftsmen advise you to make notches on a regular profile and make a bend of the desired radius yourself.

Corner profiles

Products of this type are divided into two types:

  • protective;
  • plastering.

The first type of corner strips is used in order to ensure the protection of the outer corners of plasterboard structures (for example, in doorways). Fixation of the corner strip is made by plaster, which penetrates into the holes of the profile and securely fixes it in the required position. The second type is also called beacons and is used when plastering walls.

The cost of popular models of corner profiles:

Product size and name, mmprice, rub.
Perforated aluminum corner profile, 20x20, 300027
Corner profile galvanized mesh 35x35, 300039
Profile corner white PVC, 30x30, 300063
Protective corner profile, 31×31,3000129
Corner metalized on a paper basis for internal corners, 3050260

As a rule, when assembling drywall structures, experienced craftsmen try to use materials from one company. For example, for fastening gypsum plasterboards, Knauf brands acquire Knauf profiles for drywall, of which there are many types and sizes. It makes no sense to use expensive drywall, but save on the profile, because the durability of the entire structure depends on the quality and reliability of the parts for the frame. And in order not to exceed the budget limit allocated for repairs, you need to carefully calculate the amount of materials, choose the optimal sheet size to minimize the amount of leftovers.

This sheet material consists of two layers of building cardboard, between which there is a hardened composition of gypsum dough and various fillers. Mainly used for cladding and ceilings.

From the moment one American (Augustin Sackett) in the 19th century. thought up to do, more than a century has passed. During this time, drywall has spread throughout the world and in the construction of a modern house it is indispensable. Naturally, over all these long years it has evolved, and as a result, many varieties of this sheet building material have appeared. Currently, there are many types that differ from each other in several ways:

  1. by area of application;
  2. in appearance and accuracy;
  3. according to the shape of the longitudinal edge;
  4. according to geometric parameters (length, width, thickness).

Standard sizes of drywall sheets

The nominal dimensions of sheets of various types are regulated in accordance with GOST 6266-97. However, if a construction company needs a large batch of sheets of a certain size, then any manufacturer will meet halfway and will gladly fulfill the client's desire. For retail consumers, there is no such wide choice in the general market, and only certain, most commonly found sizes are on the market.

Drywall classification

Depending on the properties and scope, the following types are distinguished:

  1. Normal GKL. It is used when finishing ceilings, partitions, walls, arches, in rooms with a normal level of humidity.
  2. moisture resistant- marked with a letter code GKLV. The composition of waterproof drywall includes water-repellent impregnations and antifungal agents, in this regard, it acquires low water absorption rates compared to the usual type. This provides it with a higher resistance to moisture penetration, which allows it to be used for finishing ceilings, partitions, walls, arches, window slopes in rooms with high humidity, be it a bathroom, a bathroom, a kitchen or a summer cottage.
  3. fire retardant- marked with a letter code GKLO. Flame retardant drywall is formulated with fiberglass reinforcement and special components to increase fire resistance, resulting in fire retardant drywall able to withstand exposure to an open flame for at least 20 minutes. It is used in structures with an increased likelihood of open fire, when lining fireplaces, chimneys, air ducts.
  4. Moisture-fire resistant- marked with a letter code GKLVO. A symbiosis of moisture and fire resistance, it is used for interior decoration of rooms with high humidity and fire hazard (boiler room, bathhouse, etc.).

Classification by appearance and accuracy

In appearance and manufacturing accuracy, gypsum boards are divided into two groups: A and B. Group A is a kind of top grade, group B is the first grade, the rest is a marriage. Sheets of group A should not have damage to the corners and longitudinal edges, and for sheets of group B, minor defects are allowed, the dimensions and number of which do not exceed the values given in table 2.

for plasterboard sheets group B

Classification according to the shape of the longitudinal edge

Depending on its shape, the longitudinal edge can be of several types, which is reflected in its scope.

Edge Sketch Type Designation Recommendations for use
straight edge PC As an inner layer when sheathing a surface in several layers, where the joints of the layers do not require backfilling
Slimmed from the front UK When gluing joints with reinforcing tape, followed by putty
Semi-circular on the front PLC When finishing joints and surfaces with putty without reinforcing tape
Semi-circular and thinned on the front side PLUK When finishing joints and surfaces with putty with reinforcing tape
rounded edge ZK When laying joints with putty, but without reinforcing tape

Plasterboard marking

All drywall sheet data is marked on each product in the following order:

  1. the letter code of the field of application is indicated, for example, GKLV;
  2. accuracy group code, for example, A;
  3. letter code for the shape of the longitudinal edge, for example, PLUK;
  4. numbers indicating the nominal length, width and thickness of the sheet in millimeters, for example, 3000 × 1200 × 12.5;
  5. in conclusion - the designations of the standard (GOST 6266-97).

The end result is a label that looks like this:

GKLV-A-PLUK-12.5×1200×3000 GOST 6266-97 or GKLV-A-PLUK-3000×1200×12.5 GOST 6266-97

What will be deciphered as moisture-resistant gypsum plasterboard, class A accuracy, with a semicircular and thinned edge on the front side, 3000 mm long, 1200 mm wide, 12.5 mm thick.
