How to apply wet silk on walls. Silk decorative plaster. Wet silk VGT

Decorative plaster "silk" - one of the varieties of liquid wallpaper. Wet silk plaster, like Venetian plaster, causes the visual effect of a velvet wall covering. This is especially evident on large areas of vertical fences inside buildings. Simplicity in the preparation and technique of applying silk plaster to the walls has gained great popularity among the population. In construction supermarkets, decorative silk-like plaster is sold in the form of dry mixes packed in plastic bags. The variety of colors and shades of silk plaster will satisfy any consumer request.

What is silk plaster

For the production of work you will need the following tools and materials:

  • ready-made liquid mixture;
  • water;
  • trowel (trowel);
  • spatulas;
  • rags;
  • stepladder or scaffolding.

After all the preparation is completed, proceed to the lining of the walls with the effect of silk. The application of silk plaster is carried out as follows:

  1. They pick up a lump of mixture with their hands and press it against the wall. In another case, a lump of plaster is laid on the trowel.
  2. With a trowel, the lump is smoothed from the middle to the edges until a layer about 2 mm thick is obtained. The thickness of the finish affects the overall material consumption.
  3. Decorative silk plaster in the corners is smoothed with narrow spatulas.
  4. Scaffolding is installed to finish the ceiling. For high walls, a stepladder is installed.
  5. Flaws of the coating are quickly removed with a spatula and the plaster is applied again.

Creating patterns and drawings

Silk plaster is used not only as a monochromatic coating, but also as a material for creating solid compositions from a variety of patterns and patterns. Designers actively use wet silk plaster in their interior design projects. Such a coating can form a beautiful accent wall.

To create any kind of drawing or landscape, templates and special optics are used, which, according to the filmoscope principle, projects the image onto the wall. Create an artistic composition on the accent wall like this:

  1. The projected image is outlined with a marker or pencil, forming the contours of sections of a certain color.
  2. By counting the number of areas with the same color, determine the need for volumes of dry mix and pigments of the desired colors.
  3. The circled area is covered with wet silk of the desired color. Then, with a spatula, the boundaries of the coating are adjusted along the contour line of the wall section.
  4. In another case, the entire wall is first covered with white silk, and only then the contours of the future drawing are applied.
  5. Then sections of the wall are painted in different colors.

For liquid wallpaper, water-based paints are not used. They use acrylic, oil-based dyes and other pigments.

Decorative coating care

Covering the walls with wallpaper under silk plaster does not need special care. The material itself is considered electrostatic, so the finish practically does not attract dust. Experts recommend cleaning the walls with a vacuum cleaner once a year. In this case, you need to act with a brush very carefully so as not to damage the finish.

Repair of damaged areas of the coating

If, as a result of someone's careless actions, the wet silk surface has been damaged, then the owner of the home can repair it himself. They do it like this:

  • the damage zone is marked with a pencil;
  • the area of damage within the contour is abundantly moistened with water;
  • with a spatula, carefully peel off the soaked finish;
  • if the damage is deep, then the wall is puttied and primed;
  • the dry mixture from the remaining residues is diluted with water and the damage is rubbed with the finished mixture with a trowel;
  • A job well done will leave no trace behind.

Many people appreciate liquid wallpaper precisely for its durability and the ability to easily and easily repair wall decoration.

Dismantling and transfer of silk trim

Sometimes a situation arises when the old silk coating of the walls gets boring, and there is a desire to change the decorative plaster to a new coating.

Wallpaper under silk is abundantly moistened with water. After that, the wet coating is carefully removed from the fence with a spatula so as not to damage the base of the wall.

The removed material is dried and stored in a plastic bag. You can store the finish for several years.

When the need arises, the dried wallpaper is removed from the bag and diluted with water. In a new place, the silk finish will look like a fresh coating.

Compatibility of decorative silk with the old wall covering

To reduce labor costs for repairing walls, decorative silk-like plaster is applied to the old finish coat. In this case, there is a risk of peeling off the new coating.

Laying a liquid silk mixture on old wallpaper does not make sense. The wet solution will saturate the paper wallpaper and dissolve the adhesive underneath the paper. As a result, the finish will simply fall off the wall. Interlining itself will dissolve from moisture. Vinyl has poor adhesion and will reject wet silk. The only way out is .

Decorative plaster will reliably stick to the painted panels. Before finishing, the painted walls are checked for cracks and chips. All identified flaws are eliminated with putty. Then all surfaces are treated with a primer. We are not talking about walls covered with water-soluble paints. If the paint is in a dilapidated state, then it is better to remove it.

It is impossible to plaster wooden walls covered with varnish. Also do not do this with walls lined with ceramics and plastic.

The best option would be not to be too lazy and remove the old finish of the interior fences of the room.

Decorative silk plaster will decorate the interior of any room. A velvety accent wall with tints of reflected light will bring aesthetic pleasure to the owners of the home and guests.

Decorative silk plaster is considered the most optimal and modern option for interior decoration. Decorative plaster under silk, and this is how this finishing material looks, is applied to the wall and looks very beautiful and rich.

The composition of this plaster includes not only silk, but also cellulose and other canvases. This finish looks very beautiful, it looks expensive, its installation is carried out quite quickly. And you can see all this in the video in this article. Today we will talk about the clear advantages of this type of finish. If you look in detail, there are a lot of them.

In order for the mixture to have a good, desired plasticity, polymers are added to it, for example. Decorative plaster, having the structure and appearance of silk, will decorate any interior, give it an attractive appearance.

If you compare silk plaster with any other finishing materials, you can find out some features. For example, silk decorative plaster silk plaster, of course, has its strengths, but there are also weaknesses.

Let's look at this issue in more detail:

  • An obvious plus for silk plaster is that it can be applied to the walls with your own hands. To do this, the material will need to be purchased and allocated time for installation.
  • Silk plaster is applied very simply, this type of room decoration will not cause much trouble. But if you are far from repair and construction work, have poor command of the tool, have little understanding of the materials, their features, positive and negative sides, then it is better to contact a specialist.
  • An important plus can be called the good plasticity of this material. It fits very well on the wall, there will be no difficulties.
  • The color palette of silk plaster is very wide and varied. By choosing this finishing material, you can decorate any room in your house or apartment.
  • Applying plaster correctly, you can achieve a perfectly flat and smooth surface. No potholes and unnecessary seams will not be. But, again, if the work is not carried out by the master, but by the owner himself, then the result can be unpredictable.

Attention: It is important to know the correct methods and features of applying this material. Repair with silk plaster can be both complete and fragmentary.

  • If, for example, over time, in some place, the canvas is worn out, damaged, has lost its original appearance, then everything can be fixed. It is enough just to apply the material to the damaged area, it will fit perfectly, quickly “find a common language” with all other elements.
  • Silk plaster can rightfully be called one of the most successful methods and materials for finishing any type of premises. It will look great both in the kitchen and in the living room, in the dining room. For a bedroom or nursery, you can also choose the appropriate palette and decorate the room in a similar way.
  • Silkscreen decorative plaster is also a versatile material. It is very easy and simple to apply, the surface does not require any complex preparation. In general, special skills and training are not required. Even an ordinary person who does not have a building education and skills in carrying out repair work is able to cope with this business - applying silk plaster on the surface of the walls.

If we talk about the negative aspects of this finishing material, then they are also available. But the disadvantages of silk plaster are still much less than positive qualities. Let's talk about the "cons".

  • If there are unpleasant (yes, any!) odors, stains, and other contaminants in the walls, then silk plaster will display them, as if “drawing them into itself”. You have to be ready for this. In any case, before deciding on the use of a particular material, you need to find out its strengths and weaknesses, read the information.
  • Now, in terms of wear resistance, decorative silk-like plaster is quite low. Therefore, when you decide to finish the walls, for example, in the nursery with this material, you need to follow all the rules. The surface should not come into contact with interior items. Otherwise, the plaster will wear out, quickly become unusable, lose its original appearance. And this is not what any owner wants.

How to apply silk plaster, nuances

First you need to know the entire scope of work in stages.

So:

  • Of course, before starting any work, the walls will need to be properly processed. In this case, you simply cannot do without a primer (see Types of building primers and their scope). After all, not a single owner wants the coating on the walls to fall off after two days, or the color was not what was originally planned, or damage to the material formed. All this can happen if the repair and finishing work is approached incorrectly, everything is not known and prepared in advance.
  • Priming, as everyone knows, is better slowly. You will have to do this (put a primer) twice. After each application, the surface must be dried well. Otherwise, materials (any) simply will not hold. The walls will become uneven, potholes, bubbles will appear. And this is not what any owner wants. Therefore, an important stage is the priming of the walls.
  • If they also need to be aligned, then this process will also have to be given a certain amount of time. It is better to spend more days decorating the room than to redo everything later, purchase new materials, waste money, time, effort, nerves again ... Repair is not an easy task, you need to prepare for it not only morally, but also physically.

If you choose the technique of “wet silk” for your premises, then it is also important to familiarize yourself with its correct application even before the start of all work.

Application conditions are very simple:

  • First, the first layer will be a primer, then silk plaster is carefully applied with a sponge. It is important to dry each layer well, it is better to devote a day to this process.
  • After you have worked the entire surface well and carefully with a sponge, you need to smooth it with a spatula. But it is better to take plastic, it is safer, it will not tear the material, it will not cause unnecessary cuts.
  • In addition to the “wet” technology, there are others, for example, classic silk. Its application will be slightly different. What are the nuances? To do this, the walls will need to be treated in the right way, for example, with a primer, in two layers it is necessary. Each coat must dry for at least four hours. It is important.

Attention: Any technology for applying decorative silk plaster requires careful preparation. If you take this issue lightly, in the future problems simply cannot be avoided.

  • If there are bumps, potholes, holes or cracks in the walls or on their surface, then they will first have to be masked. It is quite possible to do this using the same primer, putty (see Leveling the walls with putty according to all the rules), and other similar materials.
  • Decorative silk plaster will look perfect only on good walls. The concept of “good walls” means that they should be as even, smooth as possible, without roughness and other “misunderstandings”.
  • If wallpaper or other decorative elements were previously pasted on the walls, then before starting work with decorative silk plaster, everything old must be completely removed. Then the surface is processed in the right way (we wrote about this above), dried well, prepared, and later a layer of plaster is applied.
  • If everything is done in this order, then the decorations of your interior will simply amaze not only yourself, but also your guests, relatives, friends who will come to visit. The interior will be not only updated, fresh, but also very attractive.

How to properly prepare for applying decorative silk plaster

Here it is important to talk about the types of walls. After all, they can be brick, block, concrete or others.

So, let's begin:

  • Concrete walls, as one of the most durable, differ from all other materials in their good penetration and permeability. What does this mean? If it is godless to cover such surfaces with paint, even in ten layers, then the desired effect (smooth, smooth, ideal surface) may not be achieved. In this case, it may be a layer of putty. But the solution must necessarily be of high quality, strong, reliable. Only after puttying the walls can some other material be applied on top.

What if your walls were pre-plastered? Everything is also simple here, the main thing is to know some of the nuances of the process.

  • Carefully check the walls for peeling or chipping in some areas. This moment is very important. For in the case when there were peelings, they were left without attention, decorative silk plaster simply “lays badly”.
  • Over time, it will also begin to “move away from the walls”, peel off, bounce. If there are stains on the walls (from other, for example, materials), they are very strong, they can be seen, then you still have to treat the surface. This can be done with paint.
  • First, apply a primer, dry all surfaces well for several hours, then apply paint, also let it dry completely. But after that you can apply decorative plaster. In this order, if you complete the entire work plan, then the effect will be excellent.
  • If you decide to use any paint and varnish products, then do not rush to paint the entire surface, all the walls with them. It is necessary to make sure that the reaction of materials, their interaction will be correct. After all, the result of such processing can be completely unpredictable. Paint, process a certain piece of the wall, wait a few hours, or better a day, then continue with the repair work. Insurance and attentiveness in this matter have not yet been placed on anyone.

Attention: All materials must (if required by the instructions) be diluted in the correct proportions, compliance with the norms will allow you to get the desired effect.

  • If the walls are metal, for example, you are going to decorate a garage, then the metal also needs to be processed. Before applying decorative plaster to all surfaces, it is important to sand the metal walls well, process, cover with any oil paint. Only on this layer (on the paint) decorative silk plaster fits well. This decorative material is very durable, strong enough, beautiful, does not require special care.
  • Silk effect can be of three types: wet, smooth, wrinkled. It all depends on your desires, preferences, surface. Any detail is important in carrying out construction and repair work. Everything is given close attention, so as not to be disappointed at the end of the process.

Application structure

Plaster decorative silk-screen printing is applied by several methods. You end up with a different effect.

Attention: It is best to first experiment on a small plane and then make a choice. You can also see additional photos.

crinkled silk Here the work looks like this:
  • First, two layers of primer are applied. It is better to apply deep penetration. After that, we wait for complete drying, it takes about 4 hours;
  • Now let's do the base coat. To do this, we use a velor roller. You can also use a Venetian trowel. We are waiting for complete drying, it will take at least 2 hours;
  • Now, with the help of a wet goblet, apply wet silk, this is done randomly.
  • After 20 minutes, take a plastic spatula and smooth the plane. We do not strong pressure and movements in different directions.
wet silk Here, the execution of the work is slightly different from the first method:
  • We also apply a couple of layers of soil;
  • Dry for 4 hours;
  • Now, with a Venetian trowel, one more layer must be applied;
  • Let the coating dry a little;
  • Now, with the help of a roller, we make circular movements on the coating, while doing not strong pressure. Divorces are regulated by the application amplitude.
Classic silk The start of application is exactly the same:
  • The first layer is applied and it is given 4 hours to dry;
  • Now the base layer is applied, for this we use the Venetian trowel. At the same time, we do not make a very deep relief. We do this at an interval of 4-5 meters and after that we return the trowel to the beginning along the wall. Kind of smooth.
  • We dry the plane for about 5 hours;
  • This application option is perfect for a large plane.

Silk plaster or other silk plaster is used, it does not matter, first of all, the accuracy of the work and your imagination are important here. After all, the price of the material is not so high, but the quality of the surface finish depends only on you. And the instructions will help you not to miss anything.

One of the most sophisticated modern coatings is considered to be a coating that imitates a silk surface. If you look at it from different angles, you can observe a fantastic play of light, thanks to mother-of-pearl fillers. Different drawings create the illusion of translucency of the walls. All these effects are achieved by finishing the surface of the walls with a unique material - silk decorative plaster.

This miracle appeared on the building materials market in the 90s of the last century. Such plasters were imported from France, Turkey and even Japan. It was one of the most expensive and prestigious materials. However, something inexplicable happened. The demand for silk decorative plasters is not very high. This is because more affluent buyers have already had enough of this type of wall decoration and switched to newer ones, and less affluent buyers have not dared to pay attention to this material, still believing that it is expensive. Although foreign manufacturers have already lowered the price level to $13 per 1 kg of the mixture, but domestic manufacturers have long mastered the technology of its production and sell silk decorative plaster even cheaper - from $3 to $16 per 1 kg.

Plasters of this type with the addition of artificial silk are widely represented on the building materials market by fairly well-known companies:

  • "SILKOT" Japan;
  • "Senedeco" France;
  • "BAYRAMLAR" and "SILKOAT" Turkey;
  • "RODNIK-ART" and "PEACE TO YOUR HOME" Russia.

Silk plaster with artificial silk comes in various textures and compositions. Depending on these indicators, its price is calculated. It ranges from $ 2.5 to $ 25 per package, which can be plastered from 3m 2 to 5m 2.

Plasters with the addition of natural silk fibers are on the building materials market:

  • FUDZIVARA CHEMICAL Co. Japan. These are 14 types of decorative silk plaster made in several colors. Such plasters are now quite rare to be found on our market;
  • "BAYRAMLAR" Turkey. All wet silk decorative plasters produced by this company contain additions of natural silk. Of course, this affects their high price points;
  • "PEACE TO YOUR HOUSE" Russia. In the assortment of this manufacturer, there is also one type of plaster with the addition of natural silk. The cost of one package of such plaster is about $ 9.

The texture and composition of silk decorative plasters

Decorative silk plaster is a material based on polyester, cellulose, cotton, dyed artificial and natural silk fibers and various acrylic binders. The impression of the rich decoration of the walls with fabric is provided precisely by the fibers. And the larger they are, the more luxurious the walls look. It is possible to decorate any premises with such plasters, starting from corridors and rooms in apartments and ending with office premises. The color palette and varied texture of this material allows you to implement the most daring and creative design ideas.

There is a silk stucco, which includes sparkles that sparkle on the wall in the rays of light. You can give the room a more strict and official look by plastering the walls in it with decorative silk plaster of more strict tones. Of course, it is clear that natural silk is used very rarely as part of the plaster mixture, since this type of material is really exclusive, and its price level is much higher compared to artificial silk material.

Advantages of decorative silk plasters

In the premises you rarely see perfectly even walls and right angles. Consequently, even professional finishers can hardly cover such surfaces with wallpaper, and especially with the “joint” method. And it is completely unrealistic to paste over a wall with a niche or ledge, without the use of expensive materials for leveling surfaces, such as drywall or plaster. All these problems disappear as soon as it comes to silk plaster, since no seams are formed during its application. She is not afraid of uneven walls and the presence of construction defects.

Decorative wet silk plaster perfectly masks any defects and uneven walls, giving them the effect of a design idea. This material remarkably fills the gaps in those places where skirting boards, platbands, switches, sockets, frames adjoin the wall. And if you need to finish arches, bay windows, skylights and other objects, then wet silk plaster is simply irreplaceable.

Application of silk plaster

The use of silk plasters in the repair of premises gives the consumer many advantages:

  • environmental friendliness, because silk, even if artificial, is still pure silk;
  • antistatic, since they contain special antistatic additives, and thanks to them, the coating does not collect dust and does not become electrified;
  • protection against fungal formations and mold, also due to the presence of special antiseptic additives;
  • elasticity, due to which, even if small cracks appear in the wall, the coating will not tear or deform;
  • provides heat and sound insulation of the room, in which the decorative plaster coating of wet silk breathes perfectly;
  • provides acoustic comfort in the room due to the texture of the surface.

Of course, silk decorative plasters have their drawbacks:

  • pull all kinds of pollution from the walls;
  • absorb odors and moisture, especially tobacco smoke. Therefore, such coatings are not acceptable in the decoration of kitchens and rooms with high humidity;
  • low wear resistance. In places of constant movement of people, such coatings are quickly wiped off. And all corners and protruding surfaces should be immediately protected with decorative overlays.

Methods for applying silk plasters

Silk plasters are applied to the surface of the walls quite simply. On the packaging in which the dry mixture is packaged, detailed instructions for use must be placed. Following these instructions clearly, applying the plaster composition to the wall should not cause any difficulties.

For this you need:

  • open the bag;
  • pour its contents, preferably into a plastic container;
  • add the amount of water indicated in the instructions;
  • stir the mixture;
  • be sure to let the mixture settle. The time is indicated in the same instruction;
  • apply plaster on the wall surface with a layer, 1-2 mm thick, with a spatula or plastic trowel.

It is rather difficult in this process to control the thickness of the applied coating layer. Experts recommend controlling its thickness, focusing on material consumption. It must clearly correspond to the indicators indicated on the package. It all depends on the texture of the plaster.

Plasters with a larger texture are consumed per 1 m² more than plasters with a fine texture.

And decorative plaster, which has a fine texture, can be applied to the walls using a pneumatic spray gun. This method allows you to use the mixture more economically, but requires the services of qualified builders.

Of course, in order to obtain a high quality coating, the wall surfaces should be treated with a primer. For these purposes, acrylic primer is quite suitable. The system can provide the highest quality coating - alkyd primer, diluted in an organic solvent in conjunction with a special primer. In this case, you should not apply light-colored plaster on a dark-colored primer coat, as it will shine through the plaster layer. All metal surfaces must be insulated. Plasters are hygroscopic, and the metal underneath will rust, and rust spots will appear on the surface. The direction of applying plasters is traditional - “from corner to corner”.

Repairing silk plaster is easy. In case of repair of damage to the coating, you must leave part of the packaging of the dry mix.

Repair is carried out in this way:

  • the damaged fragment is removed. To do this, it must first be moistened with water;
  • diluted with water a little left from the work of the plaster;
  • the fragment is plastered, and its borders are carefully smoothed out. But you need to understand that if the coating was applied several years ago, then the repaired fragment may differ in tone.

If there is no dry mix left, you can soak the plaster removed from the removed fragment, knead it and apply it to its original place. And so that you don’t have to do repairs, you can simply protect the surface of decorative silk plaster with a layer of acrylic varnish. After this procedure, the plaster will become less dirty, and it will be easier to wash it. But the silkiness of the coating will fade a little due to the layer of varnish. If there is no lacquer layer, then it is enough to periodically vacuum the walls covered with silk plaster.

Decorative silk plaster is a material that will give a very affordable luxury. It will help to realize the most daring design ideas. It will provide people living in such a room with health, since it is made on the basis of environmentally friendly components.

Every year, experts make new discoveries in the field of finishing, which we can also buy at any building supermarket.

Technology has already reached the point that now you can abandon the wallpaper.

To replace the plaster appeared "wet silk", or as it is also called "liquid wallpaper".

What are the advantages of silk decorative plaster?

This type of plaster occupies a separate cell in the finishing material sales market. It is considered not a cheap type of plaster, but the appearance justifies the price. Many construction companies call it liquid wallpaper.

There are a number of advantages. Silk-screen decorative plaster lay down on the wall surface in a very thin layer (1-2mm). It can visually hide the defect on the wall, so that no joints are visible. It is recommended that in order to save the amount of material, you need to clean the walls on which the plaster will be applied in advance. "Wet silk" can interact with various materials: wood, plastic, metal, concrete and brick.

Due to the fact that the plaster has elastic properties, it can be used for interior and exterior decoration of wooden houses until final shrinkage. Mold does not form on such a surface. If some parts of the decor are damaged, it is enough to moisten those places with water and smooth out the imperfections with your hands. Liquid wallpaper is very easy to use, so you can do repairs on your own.

Material Features

Decorative plaster under silk is considered an expensive material. The main feature of this material is the imitation of silk fabric on the wall surface. This material includes:

  • Threads of silk that create the effect of velvet fabric. The larger the fibers, the more textured the coating will look.
  • Cotton and cellulose.
  • Acrylic is the component that binds all the components together.
  • Polyester - contributes to the elasticity of the material.
  • various pigments.
  • Antifungal agents. Helps prevent mold growth.

Tip: This type of material can be used in any interiors, bedrooms, kitchens, or in strict offices. When adding various additional components, the walls can be silvery, velvet, and you can also matte them in different colors.

Plaster "wet silk" - the pros and cons

Liquid wallpaper appeared on the sales market only in the late 90s. In such a short period of time, they have already managed to gain great popularity and form a characteristic about themselves. Decorative plaster with silk effect has a number of advantages:

  • Recommended by experts.
  • Works great on bumps and corners. Closes up small gaps.
  • Eco-friendly material.
  • Has antistatic properties.
  • Very easy to use, which will help you not waste your budget on employees.
  • It is fireproof.
  • Can be applied to ceilings and walls.
  • Odorless, does not contain toxins, does not cause allergies.

Despite all the advantages, there may be disadvantages of this material. Decorative silk-like plaster is able to absorb various odors and moisture. Therefore, for rooms such as the bathroom and kitchen, it is not recommended to use this method of decorating. It is possible to use wax on top of the finished wall. This will provide moisture resistance, but will eliminate the silky sheen. The coating can be easily wiped off, so it is not advisable to use it in walk-through rooms. It is not very popular in comparison with other mixtures, as it has a high price per square meter.

Features of preparation with photo and video

In order to start applying liquid wallpaper correctly, you need to prepare the walls in advance. Do the usual alignment and primer, it will not work, this will not be enough. Be sure to use a special putty, which is applied on a flat plane. Its color must match the color of the finish coat. Popular colors of the applied lining: white, silver-white, mother-of-pearl, silver, mint, matt effect. Particularly cool is the transition of colors and the design of the type of travertine. To work you need to use:

  • Putty knife
  • tinting
  • Primer brush
  • plaster material

Material consumption depends on the application thickness. On average, this is 300 grams per m2. Productions produce different weights (kg). For example, VGT Gallery Sea Breeze MV-101 is produced in 1 kg packaging. Decorative wet silk plaster in the interior of the photo can be seen a little lower (picture 1). Wet silk Venetian plaster is a very popular technique in the field of wall decoration. The smooth, mother-of-pearl design looks very expensive and sophisticated (picture 2). You can clearly see the process of working in the video lesson at the end of the article.

Silk Coating Techniques - Step by Step Diagram

There are several ways to create texture on the wall in a variety of styles: Italian, Chinese, Florentine, Russian and Venetian (Venetian). Plaster wet silk application technology, has more than one option. You can do this dusty work yourself, or you can turn to the master for help.

With a spatula With a roller
1 The base coat, which will be applied to the surface before applying the plaster, is used in a thin layer, without any patterns. We cover the walls with a base layer. We give it time to dry.
2 Next, you need to let the walls dry well, do not touch them for a couple of hours. Then we apply the second layer. The next layer must be applied with a roller. You need to capture small areas at a time, a maximum of one meter.
3 Using a spatula, we take a small amount of decorative plaster on the trowel and distribute it in a thin, even layer over the surface. Slow movements are required to press the plastered area.
4 Without waiting for drying, you need to form a relief. After the desired drawing is ready, you need to press it down with a trowel.

In order for the “wet silk” plaster to dry completely, you need to wait a day. Stencils are used to create a high-tech design.

To create a flat surface, you need to use long strokes, and for relief, short ones.

Decorative dry mixes very often imitate materials that are completely different from them, and this is no exception. silk plaster, which, as its name implies, imitates a certain type of tissue. The spectacular wall and even ceiling coatings obtained with their help make the design of the premises richer, however, the finishing material itself is not cheap. However, its characteristics are such that the costs will certainly be justified.

What is silk plaster made of?

For some, it may come as a surprise that this dry mix is made on the basis of cellulose fibers, and some brands contain cotton fibers or a combination of both of the above types of components. However, this finishing material acquires its main properties exclusively due to natural or artificial particles of silk. Plastic silk plaster becomes due to the addition of polyester threads to the composition, the high content of which also affects the type of coating.

The binder is acrylic copolymers, they are part of all, without exception, decorative plasters that imitate silk, increasing their plasticity along the way. The following is a list of chemicals contained in dry mixes in small quantities. In particular, these are plasticizers, substances that actively destroy fungus and mold. A small percentage of the total volume is made up of dyes, as well as other additives that enhance the decorative qualities of the mixture, for example, giving mother-of-pearl sheen or shimmering sparkles.

A fine-textured mixture can be applied using a pneumatic sprayer, while its consumption will be relatively small, much more per square meter will require a coarse-textured solution.

Interestingly, thanks to some fillers, the pattern created by the plaster may look different from different angles. Pearlescent additives create the effect of a translucent coating. And as soon as the second or even the third dye appears in the mixture, and now the effect is created not of silk, but of velvet. The basic color of silk plaster is silver-white, however, tinting is quite acceptable in the process of mixing the dry mixture with water..

What are the advantages of silk decorative plaster?

Small irregularities on the walls will be noticeable both under the wallpaper and under the water-based paint. If you level them with a conventional cement-sand mixture, you will need to withstand a rather thick layer, in order to avoid cracks, at least 3 centimeters, which means a completely unnecessary consumption of material. Decorative plaster Silk allows you to hide minor irregularities, and at the same time it is applied in a rather thin layer of 1-2 millimeters. However, due to the high cost of the material, it is better to carefully prepare the walls before finishing.

Also, among other advantages, pay attention to the fact that the plaster in question is applied to all types of surfaces without exception, be it concrete, brick, metal or wood. At the same time, even if the finishing is carried out in separate sections, traces of the joints never remain. In some cases, it is necessary to use a special primer to increase adhesion to the substrate. And, importantly, if the house was built relatively recently, and the shrinkage of the walls has not ended, this will not affect the coating of the plaster of interest to us, since it is elastic and can stretch by more than 5 millimeters.

The positive side is the ability to repair the damaged coating, for which it is enough to remove the desired fragment of the finish and, if there is a small supply of dry mix, dilute a new portion of the plaster. There are some disadvantages in this, but we will mention them further in the list of disadvantages. In extreme cases, it is allowed to use the old composition, slightly soaking it with water and thoroughly kneading to a pasty state. And, of course, the main advantage of the material is that it does not require much experience to work with it.

Plaster Wet Silk and its disadvantages

By applying a decorative coating imitating silk to the walls, you can be sure that it has much more positive qualities than negative ones. There are only a few drawbacks, and the main one is the high cost. The second disadvantage, however, is easily corrected - high moisture absorption. So that the surface of the walls does not absorb water like a sponge, it is recommended to cover it with acrylic varnish or special wax, however, this will slightly reduce the illusion of silk, but the walls can be washed.

Also, when decorating the premises, it should be borne in mind that the coating Wet Silk and its analogues easily absorb any odors, as a result of which it is undesirable to use the material in the kitchen and in the toilet. Another disadvantage is a consequence of the advantage described above - the ability to repair the coating with the stored dry mix. The fact is that after a certain period of time, the plaster darkens, and a seemingly identical fresh mixture may turn out to be a little lighter. That is why, whenever possible, it is recommended to use the material that you scraped off the repaired area.

Silk Coating Techniques

On the packages in which the dry mix of decorative plaster is sold, there is always an instruction, acting according to which, you can do without the services of specialists. It is enough to take a bowl, stir the mixture with water in it, the amount of which is again indicated on the package, and you can get to work.

Silk Coating Techniques - Step by Step Diagram

Step 1: Primer

Of course, silk plaster has a sufficient degree of viscosity, however, it is desirable to increase the adhesion of the solution to the surface, for which you will need a special acrylic primer for decorative compositions. We take a brush or maklovitsa and apply the primer on the walls so that every centimeter is covered.

Step 2: Applying the first layer

With a narrow or medium plastic trowel, we scoop up small portions of plaster and apply chaotic strokes applied at short intervals to the wall. The thickness of the layer should be no more than 2 millimeters. To get the effect of the "droppe" technique, you need to apply short strokes directed in different directions to get plexuses from leaves and curls. The "moon" technique is somewhat different, which is obtained by applying the solution with radial movements. Imitation of wet fabric is achieved by applying the thinnest layer up to 1 millimeter.

Step 3: Applying the second layer

To create the effect of silk, limiting yourself to one layer of strokes will not work. Therefore, maintaining the same technique in which we started working, we continue, applying strokes with a second layer. In particular, "droppe" may require a third layer of coating. To get imitations of printed fabric, crinkled silk, embroidered velvet, it is best to use textured rollers to apply the composition. At the same time, it is desirable that the relief on the nozzles of the tool does not exceed 3 millimeters at the highest point, since the thickness of the decorative coating layer should be carefully observed. With the help of rollers, you can get volumetric patterns of any complexity on the walls, as well as all kinds of folds on the "fabric".
