Furniture sets for the kitchen made of oak - how to inexpensively change the situation and update the interior

Not sure which kitchen set is best for you? I propose to pay attention to the stylish and original furniture for the kitchen made of oak. I will describe the main advantages and disadvantages of this type of wood, and tell you how to use it correctly in combination with other materials to decorate the interior of your kitchen.

Characteristic features of wood

Oak is a hardwood species. Depending on the specific type and region of tree growth, the properties of wood may differ slightly, but in general, the following qualities are characteristic of it:

  1. Physical properties:
  • The dried oak tree has a high specific gravity, due to which the products are distinguished by high strength and durability;
  • The fibers are arranged around the tree trunk in a circle, strictly parallel to each other, so the wood is highly stable and low shrinkage;
  • With repeated cycles of changes in humidity and temperature, wooden products do not warp, do not lose their shape and do not change geometric dimensions.

  1. Moisture resistance:
  • Due to the dense arrangement and strong bond of the fibers, the tree has a very low degree of water absorption, therefore, it practically does not absorb moisture;
  • Wood contains natural antiseptic components. Thanks to them, even with a long stay in water or in dampness, it does not rot, collapse or become moldy.
  1. Pattern texture:
  • Oak wood differs from other species in its easily recognizable and very beautiful texture of the natural pattern, clearly defined straight fibers and characteristic textural relief;
  • Wood is easily sanded and polished with abrasive tools. This allows you to get a deep matte or mirror-gloss surface with a different depth of texture pattern.

  1. Color spectrum:
  • Freshly sawn oak wood has a uniform structure with a small relief pattern, from light straw to dark brown;
  • Wood with the effect of aged oak is distinguished by a darker or burgundy hue and a deep uneven textured pattern;
  • Bleached oak wood can be beige, light gray or light brown in color with characteristic whitish streaks along the grain.

Combined finishes are often used in kitchen sets. In this case, bleached oak fronts can be combined with freshly sawn solid wood chairs and tops.

Pros and cons of oak kitchen furniture

Oak furniture looks noble and stylish, so it always looks harmonious in the interior and goes well with any style of interior decoration. At the same time, it has its positive and negative sides, which I will discuss below:

Advantages disadvantages
  • Good decorative qualities, noble and expensive appearance;
  • High strength, good wear resistance and long service life;
  • On solid wood, scratches, scuffs and chips do not form over time;
  • The tree does not rot and does not collapse under the influence of moisture;
  • Solid oak wood is a natural and environmentally friendly material without chemical impurities and extraneous additives.
  • Fairly high price compared to other types of wood;
  • A large specific gravity and complex processing with cutting tools greatly complicate the manufacture and repair of oak furniture;
  • Natural wood does not tolerate the effects of alkalis and acids, which can leave indelible stains on the surface;
  • For this reason, the factory instructions for furniture care do not recommend the use of household cleaners and detergents;
  • To remove dirt, use a damp sponge and neutral laundry soap.

Oak wood furniture

Solid oak kitchens are expensive high-status furniture, which not everyone can afford. To spruce up your kitchen at a minimal cost, I advise you to purchase parts and pieces of furniture set separately, since they can be bought at a lower price.

Illustration Description of works

Furniture facades:
  1. With the help of new furniture facades (as in the photo), it is easy to ennoble any cabinet furniture made of laminated chipboard;
  2. To do this, it is enough to order new doors for cabinets, front panels for drawers and top plinths for floor standing units;
  3. Such a reconstruction can be made even cheaper if, instead of solid oak, pine boards covered with oak veneer are used.

Dinner table:
  1. With a table, you can do the same as with cabinet furniture;
  2. The base and legs of the table are usually not seen by anyone, so they can be left old;
  3. The most important and visible detail is the countertop;
  4. It can be bought ready-made or made from glued solid oak boards.

So that the legs and base do not differ in color from the countertop, they need to be cleaned of old paint and covered with a tinted oak stain.

Chairs:
  1. A set of folding chairs for the dining table can be made by hand;
  2. To do this, you need several dry oak bars and planks 25-30 mm thick;
  3. The manufacturing scheme and the list of materials with dimensions are shown in the figure on the left;

Corner sofa for the kitchen:
  1. A soft corner made of solid oak will be very expensive;
  2. You can make an imitation of plywood and wooden blocks;
  3. Paste the visible planes of plywood with oak veneer, sand and cover with parquet varnish;
  4. Cover the seats and backs with upholstery fabric, after placing sheets of foam rubber under the bottom.

Repair of facades made of natural oak is carried out by veneering. To do this, a thin layer of oak veneer is glued onto the damaged surface. After sanding and varnishing, it is difficult to distinguish it from solid wood.

Conclusion

Now you know about all the advantages of oak furniture, and you will be able to reconstruct and ennoble the old kitchen set in your apartment yourself. Leave your questions and suggestions in the comments, and don't forget to watch the video in this article.

The color of bleached oak is incredibly popular in interior design. It is used in floor, furniture, door, wall and even ceiling finishes. Not a single style can do without a whitish tree today, it is loved by the classics, ethno and minimalism are respected.

A bright interior is in fashion. This is especially true for northern countries with short summers and long rainy autumns and winters, including Russia. Therefore, light wood will help to add light to our homes and make the interiors more positive. In the light palette today there is one favorite - white-gray color, which is called "bleached oak". It is good because it has a lot of shades that range from cold grayish-gray to warm milky pinkish and gray-sand tones. With their help, you can create a stylish monochrome interior in white and gray tones. Lots of options. You can make a light gray floor in a large living room; white, black or brown furniture will look great against its background. The effect of bleached oak can be achieved using many materials, primarily a floor in the form of a deck board or parquet, or you can create a more economical option with a laminate. Despite the fact that the light floor is not considered practical and requires additional care, we can say that these are prejudices. White floors are really difficult to keep clean, while gray tones, especially those with wood grain, on the contrary, hide dirt. And besides, the light gray floor has a lot of advantages, it is able to visually increase the area and volume of the room, as well as make it lighter and brighter. If you make bleached oak the base color of the interior, then you need to play with the rest of the colors. For example, for a classic interior it is better to choose warm shades of gray-beige, and for ethnics, for example, for French Provence - milky grayish tones that are associated with wear and aging. But in modern styles it is quite possible to use cold light gray and fashionable dove shades. In the loft style, such a light gray floor with a wood texture will get along well with concrete and white brick walls, and in high-tech with chrome details and glass.

    The living area looks very avant-garde. The authors of the project found a contrasting solution and made black walls and light floors in the color of bleached oak. Against their background, designer chairs with a coffee table look spectacular.

    The guest bedroom is decorated in the style of modern classics and in light colors. All cabinet furniture (high built-in wardrobe, desk and armchair) is made in the same style and warm cream color. But for the floor, the color of bleached oak in a cool gray-gray shade was chosen.

    A small office is decorated in a modern style and all finished with wood in a trendy gray-beige tone. In addition to wall cladding, floors and ceilings, built-in wardrobes and a work desk are made of this stained wood in a bleached oak look.

    A large open living room in a country house is filled with light and air. The authors of the project achieved this effect due to the large number of windows, as well as painting all wooden surfaces (walls, floor and ceiling) in the trendy color of bleached oak, which made the room more light and spacious.

    The modern interior of the spacious living room is solved by light wooden floors in a fashionable gray-beige tone, original lamps and an active lilac wall. Some walls are painted to match the floor, as well as a partition that separates the living area from the dining room.

    The spacious classic kitchen is made in a noble beige and brown tones. The facades of the kitchen set, painted in the color of bleached oak, echo the ceramic tiles in the color of baked milk. The monochrome scheme is enlivened by blue silk drapery and gray-blue upholstery of the chairs.

    The interior of the living room is designed in the style of modern classics and a beautiful monochrome palette. Bleached oak wood floors, olive walls, beige window drapes, light gray carpet and upholstered furniture. Paired floor lamps with red lampshades act as a color accent.

    The living room in a wooden country house is decorated in a modern style and trendy colors. Wooden log walls are tinted to match the color of bleached oak, the floor is lined with a warmer grey-beige board. Against their background, upholstered furniture made in white and black leather looks impressive.

    The spacious living room of the country house is decorated in the style of European modernism. Good space, high floor-to-ceiling windows, calm monochrome. The high vaulted ceilings are clad in wood and painted in bleached oak. Very stylish!

Almost 50 shades of luxury are available in wenge, modern designers are convinced. Why is this color a favorite among many of them, why is it becoming more and more popular?

Wenge - we call one of the shades of color, but at the same time we say and hear a lot.

Classics and luxury, aristocracy and relevance, exoticism and modernity, and many more meanings include the energetic word “wenge”, like a spell of the leader of an African tribe.

And it means the name of wood from Africa. Wood of a special, incomparable shade, and in addition, it has very important qualities: durability, strength, texture.

Wenge color confidently conquers the world. Once used only in Africa, it gradually spread throughout America, Europe, and once in our country, it became extremely popular.

And now this color is used to decorate walls and floors, furniture and household appliances. Wenge organically fit into different rooms, and wenge-colored kitchens are very popular.

Wenge and its features

If a wenge color is chosen for the kitchen, you need to consider that this is a special color. Wenge is strict lines, elegant simplicity and no frills, let alone pretentiousness.

Sometimes kitchens made in dark brown - the main color of wenge - are called men's. But the color of wenge in the interior of the kitchen is interesting in that it has many different shades that make it possible to give the interiors originality and originality.

Classic shades of wenge:

  • Dark brown;
  • Dense brown fading to black with an additional tinge of greyish brown;
  • coffee colors;
  • Chocolate colors;
  • Intense purple with hints of dark dark chocolate.

In combination with wenge

Professionals suggest: the design of the kitchen in wenge color will be more spectacular if other shades are used simultaneously with the main color.

But such use must be professional and competent. It is best to “dilute” the main shade with such colors that will bring additional shades to the perception of the kitchen interior, and in contrast will make it softer, warmer, calmer. Light colors become such for wenge.

A photo of a wenge-colored kitchen convincingly shows color shades that are successfully combined with wenge:

  • Beige light shades;
  • Milk color;
  • Vanilla;
  • Peach;
  • Bleached oak;
  • White glossy.

Very interesting in the kitchen is the combination of wenge with bright shades of green: mint or pistachio.

How to organize a combination of colors in the kitchen in wenge colors? The colors used as a shade for the main one can be used to decorate facades, countertops or even a kitchen “apron”.

In addition, these colors are also suitable for flooring, doors and frames, lamps and decorative elements.

Kitchen interior style in wenge color

The interior of the kitchen in wenge color can be made in different styles, taking into account the design of the entire apartment.

In addition to the classic style, this color looks good in ethnic style with African notes, it is also interesting in modern modern or high-tech kitchens.

Style features:

  • Hi-tech provides the opportunity to use chrome-plated matte fittings. Gloss is also acceptable, for example, in a countertop.
  • Modern is a combination of a matte surface in furniture minimalism.
  • Ethnicity requires a bright design that immediately points to the mainland from which the wenge tree came into the world. The contrasts in this style are very organic.
  • Eco-style is created using colors inherent in natural materials: wood, sand, grass, water.

The thoughtful use of various shades of wenge in the interior of the kitchen will make it stylish, modern, and unique.

Kitchens made of wood are highly valued for many advantages:

  • Nobility and "warmth" of wood texture;
  • The ability to age beautifully;
  • Durability with proper care;
  • Possibility of restoration;
  • naturalness;
  • Greater variability in the design of facades.

However, for those who are planning to buy a wooden kitchen set, you need to keep in mind the disadvantages, features, nuances of choosing such furniture - we have collected them in a small reference for the buyer.

8 things to know before buying a wooden kitchen

It should be clarified right away that the concept of "kitchen made of wood" conditionally implies only partially wooden kitchens. Indeed, in them, most often, only facades are made of solid wood, and the frame is made of MDF, laminated chipboard or plywood.

1. The tree is capricious and more expensive

Here are the cons you need to be prepared for:

  • Since wood is susceptible to sunlight, facades can change tone over time.
  • Due to the sensitivity of wood to humidity and temperature changes, facades can dry out and become covered with small cracks. Therefore, all year round, including during the heating season, it is necessary to maintain a relative humidity of about 60-75%, for example, with the help of an air humidifier. During cooking, it is necessary (it must be powerful and desirable domed).
  • Kitchen facades made of wood require care and respect - rubbing scratches, lubrication from time to time with water-repellent wax or oil.
  • Solid wood kitchens are almost always more expensive than kitchens with MDF fronts.
  • Wooden doors are made in standard sizes and shapes (cannot be rounded).

2. Wooden facades are not always completely wooden

Kitchen fronts can be of two types of construction:

  • Shield - when the doors are made of a solid shield (we'll talk about them in a little more detail below);
  • Frame - such doors consist of a wooden frame into which a panel of veneered MDF or chipboard is inserted. Also, the central part can be glass.

Which facades are better - frame or solid? There is no single answer here, since they have the same quality and strength, the difference is only in appearance.

Solid facades look more concise, and focus on the texture and pattern of wood, so they fit more into the interior, etc. And they are also easier to care for.

Frame facades are more suitable for traditional, etc. They can have a variety of decor - from carving to patination.

3. Facades are not made of solid wood, but of Euro-beam or veneered MDF/chipboard

In serial production, panel doors are rarely made from solid wood due to its high cost, labor costs and unpredictability in operation. Therefore, you should not take risks and order such a kitchen from private masters - although it is really traditional and beautiful, it can “lead” over time.

Furniture factories most often make facades from finger-jointed wood (euro-beam), that is, from shields assembled from dried wooden bars. And this not only reduces the cost of furniture, but also makes it more durable.

4. The secret to a durable kitchen is hardwood doors.

The best and most durable natural wood kitchens are hardwood fronts: oak, ash, walnut, beech, cherry, acacia, and tulipie (tulip wood). It is these types of wood that are most durable and moisture resistant.

  • Oak - solid oak kitchens are considered the "standard" and the most noble furniture option. Oak is valued for its durability, unique texture, moisture resistance, strength and hardness. Its color can be very different: light yellow, light pink, greenish-gray, red-brown, etc. The photo below shows the interior of a classic kitchen with a bog oak set (scroll).

  • Ash - almost as good as oak in terms of durability and strength. It has a pronounced relief and rich colors (from light pink to dark brown).

  • Beech is durable like oak, but lighter and pinker, lends itself well to tinting in any color.

  • Cherry - loses to oak and ash in terms of strength, but is highly valued for its rarity, luxurious reddish hue and characteristic texture. However, keep in mind that most often a set declared as a “kitchen made of solid cherry” actually has an MDF and cherry veneer panel, and an alder frame.

5. The secret of the economy kitchen is in the doors made of soft woods: pine, birch, alder

Pine, spruce, cherry, birch, alder are cheaper due to the low performance and prevalence of growth in Russia. They belong to soft woods, and therefore are more likely to be damaged by accidental impacts with sharp and heavy objects. Another feature of such facades is an unexpressed, almost smooth surface.

  • When choosing a kitchen made of pine, give preference to facades made of all-lamellar panels, as they are more durable.

The following photo shows a set with pine facades in the interior.

6. Kitchen design is largely dependent on processing and finishing.

A natural wood kitchen can be treated with transparent, translucent and opaque (opaque) finishes.

In the first case, the doors retain the natural wood pattern and texture (sometimes color), as they are only tinted with stain, and are protected from above:

  • Varnish is the most practical option, as it best protects the fronts from household pollution, prevents the absorption of odors and moisture. Lacquer is glossy or matte, polyurethane-based (preferable) or water-based (worse). The lacquer coating will last 5-7 years, and then the facades need to be restored.

  • Wax or oil- a traditional way of processing wood when it is coated and polished with water-repellent oil or wax. The result is very pleasant and beautiful surfaces. It is these kitchens that are made by Italian manufacturers, but in operation they show themselves worse - the fronts are afraid of greasy stains, absorb odors and moisture.

The finish color of the kitchen depends not only on the type of wood, but also on the color of the tint. So, for example, light ash can be painted like dark walnut (pictured below), and oak can be painted like cherry, etc.

The colors of the fronts with a visible wood pattern can be conditionally divided by color into groups: red-brown, dark brown, light and bleached.

As for opaque coatings, colored enamel is used here. Under it, the color of the wood is no longer visible, but the relief is preserved to one degree or another (depending on the relief of the wood).

Enamelled wooden kitchens can be of any color, but most often they are either neutral base colors (white, gray, beige), as well as blue and green colors characteristic of Provence and country design, as in the photo.

7. You need to buy a wooden kitchen only from a trusted manufacturer that provides a guarantee

Wood is very demanding on all stages of processing and is itself very sensitive to external influences. Manufacturing defects happen even in the most honored factories, to say nothing of ordinary manufacturers.

  • To understand that the furniture is defective, it will not be possible immediately, so it is important to purchase it with a guarantee. So, for example, if literally 1 month after installing the kitchen, you can find that it suddenly “led” or the varnish began to come off, then this means that the kitchen was made of raw wood.
  • By the way, when buying a wooden kitchen from an Italian manufacturer, be prepared to comply with all clearly defined rules for its maintenance and operation, otherwise the factory will void all warranty obligations. However, it is necessary to ensure the desired temperature and humidity in any case.

Of course, you can get lucky and an inexpensive kitchen will last for many years, but still - it's not worth the risk.

8. And a little about design

The fronts of the classic style kitchen can be decorated with: decorative carvings, curly details, milling, cornices, pilasters, balustrades and gilding.

  • The more decorations the doors have, the more difficult it is to take care of them and the greater the risk of "overloading" the interior of the kitchen.

In the next photo, the facades of the headset are not only patinated and milled, but also decorated with cornices, columns and gilding.

The effect of old age and antiquity of the facades is achieved by brushing the panels (highlighting the relief), patination, creating artificial cracks in the enamel (craquelure), artificially creating grooves, as if eaten by a bug, etc. The design of the antique wooden kitchen is presented in the following photo.

  • The smaller the kitchen, the lighter and more concise its facades should be.
  • Keep in mind that dark brown, dark blue and black surfaces are difficult to clean - even slight dust and dirt spots will be noticeable.

  • The more textured the tree, the less decor it needs, because its beauty is self-sufficient and does not need an excess of decorations.
  • If the doors of a modern kitchen are made of solid panels, then you can not be shy and choose facades from exotic woods or originally processed, for example, brushed as in the interior of the following photo example.
