Beautiful Christmas toys made of plywood: we make decorations with our own hands using a jigsaw. Plywood toys: tools and auxiliary elements, the subtleties of manufacturing New Year's crafts from plywood schemes

Christmas crafts are always fun. Let's start decorating a Christmas tree toy from plywood. The main materials for work are a decoupage napkin with the image of gnomes and New Year's gifts, a plywood blank in the form of a ball, and an openwork kitchen napkin. All this can be purchased in special stores for needlework.

What options for creating Christmas tree decorations with your own hands on the eve of the holidays cannot be found on the Internet. These are products made of paper, thread and glue, felt, corrugated paper and old newspapers. In general, there are a lot of materials for making such crafts, and if you have a specific scheme at hand, then in the end everything can be done quickly and easily. In this material, we will give options on how to make New Year's toys from plywood, templates will help you make beautiful New Year's decor elements with your own hands.

If you want to make stylish and beautiful New Year's toys from plywood, you should find high-quality templates and download them in advance. A large number of various templates that are suitable for these purposes can be found directly in this material and immediately downloaded from here to your computer, so that later you can print it on a printer for work or transfer it directly from the screen to a piece of paper. Such a wooden decor looks original, and the design turns out to be interesting and unusual.

Today, wooden toys for decorating the Christmas tree are rather a rarity. But once such decorations were most often used for Christmas decorations. Unfortunately, the tree was replaced by plastics, but even now, despite all the variety of possible options for New Year's crafts, plywood toys still occupy their own special niche.

Advantages of plywood for making toys

Ready-made drawings of plywood toys can be downloaded from this material, but if you are still wondering why you should choose this particular material, then it's time to bring important advantages. First of all, plywood Christmas decorations are extremely rare today, which means it is stylish and incredibly original. Such a Christmas tree decoration will definitely not be found anywhere else and will be one of a kind.

I would also like to note that Christmas tree toys made of wood allow you to decorate the Christmas tree to your liking. Even a child can engage in such skill, and the process itself, not to mention the result, brings a huge amount of positive emotions and vivid impressions. This decor will be relevant then for many years in a row. It is suitable not only for decorating the New Year's beauty, but also for doors and windows, as an independent exclusive gift to relatives and friends.

Another plus of this decor, which cannot be ignored, is durability. Do-it-yourself plywood toys do not break when hit, dropped. They retain their shape even in the most difficult stressful situations, where plastic or glass would have failed long ago.

What is required for needlework

This is not the most common type of manual creativity, as already noted, so you need to carefully prepare for work in advance. In particular, you need a sheet of plywood (you can buy it, you can take scraps of cut sheets that were used in construction).

Also, for work, a jigsaw, manual or electric, must be at hand. You will also need a drill with a set of drills and sandpaper. Plus, in order to bring the toy to mind, you need to buy acrylic paints and acrylic varnish in advance. As an additional decor, you can safely use paper, tinsel trimmings, satin ribbons, and even ready-made New Year and Christmas images.

Master class on creating toys

First, we prepare the blank for decoration. We take white acrylic paint POLYCOLOR and a large foam rubber sponge. We dip the sponge into the paint and with smooth movements we tampon the workpiece. The paint should be applied evenly on both sides of the plywood. If necessary, apply two or three coats of paint.

When the surface is dry, sand the plywood with a piece of fine-grained sandpaper. The workpiece must become absolutely even - this is the main condition for decorating a Christmas tree toy.

Remove the top layer from the napkin and tear out the fragments with gnomes. A white paper field should remain around each figure.

Now you can do decoupage on the prepared plywood surface. Attach a piece of napkin with a dwarf to one side of the balloon. With a small, soft-bristled brush, dip into acrylic lacquer (using HOBBY LINE) and then brush gently over the top of the paper towel. The varnish will quickly saturate the paper and it will stick to the workpiece. So, the varnish will perform two functions: both decoupage glue and protective varnish. After the varnish has dried, glue the fragment on the other side of the workpiece in the same way.

Next, we create lace details on the plywood Christmas tree toy. We put a kitchen lace napkin on top of the decoupage in such a way as to visually imagine where to make the drawing (you can move the napkin until you like the location). With acrylic contours of various colors, put dots in the holes of the napkin.

Choose the color of the contours to your taste, taking into account compatibility with the overall composition (used HOBBY LINE, MARABU, and DECOLA). You can place such a dotted ornament over the entire surface of the Christmas tree toy, or only along some edge.

When the spot painting is dry on both sides, open the decoupage with glossy acrylic varnish. Apply several coats of varnish and dry each one thoroughly.

Hook a ribbon or thick thread into the hole in the blank and hang the plywood toy on the Christmas tree. Gnomes with gifts rush to the New Year together with

By designing plywood crafts for the New Year, we can not only get a whole set of themed decorations for the Christmas tree and for the whole house, but also have a good time. This work is quite simple, so you can do it in moments of rest, and the cost of acquiring materials will be minimal.

What will be needed for the manufacture of such crafts, as well as how we will perform the basic operations - we will tell in the article below.

Preparation for work

materials

Although the cost of Christmas toys can be quite budgetary, some people prefer to make them on their own. And plywood for crafts here turns out to be quite a suitable material - the products are quite light, strong and durable, in addition, if desired, they can be given almost any shape.

For the manufacture of Christmas toys and other crafts, we need:

  • plywood made of pine, spruce or birch veneer with a thickness of 3 to 10 mm;

Note! Thin plates can be bent, while thicker sheets are intended for the manufacture of parts that experience some operational load (frameworks, stands, etc.).

  • light fasteners - thin wire, miniature nails, pushpins, etc.;
  • impregnation to protect wood from moisture and ignition;
  • varnishes, paints and other materials for decorative processing.

As for the plywood itself, you need to choose the highest quality material possible. Selected parts (grade "E" - elite) or sheets of the first or second grades, with a minimum of knots, delaminations and other defects, are suitable for work.

It is very important that the material from which the decorative details will be made is dry. Wet plywood very often breaks jigsaw blades, therefore, before working, the workpiece should be kept for several days in a room with a constant temperature and low humidity.

Instruments

To make a set of plywood toys for the house with our own hands, we will need the simplest tools:

  • jigsaw, reciprocating saw or hacksaw;
  • jigsaw for;

Advice! If you decide to take woodworking seriously, then you should purchase an electric jigsaw for artistic carving. Of course, its price is quite high, but the use of such devices significantly reduces the complexity of the work.

  • drill and drill bits for wood of different diameters;
  • files and sandpaper for sanding wood;
  • brushes, rollers and other devices for applying decorative compositions.

From time to time, hobbies, forgotten for a while, return to our lives. For example, now at the peak of popularity is the manufacture of toys with their own hands.

Of particular interest are movable toys made of plywood, especially since the price of a finished toy will pleasantly please you, inspiring you to create new masterpieces.

Why is this needed?

Quite often, manufacturing from a hobby turns into a profitable business.

Original colorful toys use as:

  • home interior decoration;
  • decor for a personal plot and flower beds;
  • as souvenirs;
  • in the form of safe (environmentally friendly) educational toys.

Plywood is an inexpensive material, with the acquisition of which there will be no problems. Having mastered the basics, you will easily be guided in choosing the thickness of the sheets for a particular toy.

Having a small weight and thickness, plywood is strong enough to withstand heavy loads.

The qualitative characteristics of the material allow you to create toys of various levels of complexity and sizes:

  • doll and children's furniture;
  • houses;
  • constructors;
  • original New Year's toys decorated with carvings.

If you decide to make a toy with your own hands, you need to start with the simplest product. As you gain practical experience, you will be able to complicate the task.

First of all, you need to prepare do-it-yourself plywood toy patterns. This is the basis, on the quality of which the external characteristics and functionality of the toy depend. The drawing must be made in real scale, thus, it will be possible to avoid errors and inaccuracies.

After you are convinced that the drawing is perfect, transfer it to cardboard or paper. The next step is to transfer the image to plywood.

What do you need to work

Instruments

For this exciting activity, you will need an initial set of tools, but their quality must be impeccable:

  • a circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • sandpaper;
  • Circular Saw.

Savings on tools can result in under-polished edges that can cause injury.

After the drawings of plywood toys are transferred to the base, you can get to work:

  • for straight cuts, use a circular saw;
  • for curved - disk.
  • for excessively curved lines - a jigsaw.

Auxiliary elements

Having prepared all the details, you can start assembling the toy.

For this purpose, you will need auxiliary materials:

  • screws;
  • nails;
  • wood glue.

To ensure the strength and functionality of the toy, we use screws and nails, for small parts that should not move - glue. When assembling, it must be remembered that the metal fasteners must merge with the surface.

Advice. Before proceeding with the manufacture of the product, prepare a place where you can work freely.
Success largely depends on the ability to focus and move freely without fear of knocking over or scratching something.

It is easiest to consider the whole process of work on a specific example.

Even when choosing a material, you should pay attention to the presence of obvious defects:

  • knots;
  • dents;

Before proceeding with the transfer of the drawing to plywood, it must be carefully cleaned with a coarse-grained grater, polished with fine sandpaper. On a perfectly flat surface, it is extremely easy to transfer the image with a soft, simple pencil.

In order for you to feel comfortable during the polishing process, it is recommended to wrap the bar with sandpaper. Translate the drawing slowly, after attaching it with buttons to the base.

Tip: For beginners, special attention should be paid to posture, the accuracy of your movements depends on this, respectively, the final result.

For sawing, you need to be patient, even or, on the contrary, curved lines are obtained after acquiring practical skills. Finished parts must be re-sanded using fine-grained sandpaper.

As a rule, the first crafts are made using ready-made drawings, which consistently indicate the assembly process.

Connect the parts in strict accordance with the instructions. The properties of the material allow you to correct the shape of the parts when deviations are detected during the assembly process, most importantly, do not rush.

Advice. It is necessary to grind plywood exclusively along the layers, the surface must be perfect, glossy-matte, you will experience a pleasant sensation when touched.

Production of dynamic toys

Representatives of different generations are genuinely interested in children's dynamic toys, to the production of which you can safely proceed, having mastered the basic skills of working with material and tools.

As an example, consider one of the most popular options: a duck that will tap its paws in the process of movement.

You will need:

  • drawing and a simple pencil for transferring to the base;
  • plywood sheet, optimal size A4;
  • a stick 80 cm long with a diameter of 7 mm, a ball - 50 mm.

Manufacturing process:

  1. You can print the template on a printer with resizing, apply on a previously prepared surface. (see also )
  2. With a jigsaw, cut out the wheels and duck. It should be cut carefully, the results of haste and sudden movements are quite difficult to correct.
  3. With fine sandpaper, carefully grind the finished parts, especially the edges. Skillful use of sandpaper allows you to correct mistakes made in the sawing process, the irregularities become invisible.
  4. For the production of dynamic toys, in addition to the standard set of tools mentioned above, it is necessary to prepare a drill.
  5. In this case, you need to drill a hole in the tail area for attaching the wheels.
  6. The final step is to color the craft, when choosing colors, you can give free rein to your fantasies.

In principle, if you act in accordance with the instructions and drawings that are attached to the model you are interested in, there will be no problems, but it is still recommended to start from the elementary.

New Year's plywood toy

DIY Christmas toys are especially in demand recently, the demand for them is growing due to the return of fashion for handicrafts.

To make them, you will need a sheet of plywood, a set of tools, bright colors and all kinds of decorative elements: lace, beads, pieces of fabric or leather, glue. A lot of templates are presented on the Internet, but individuality is valued in handmade products, give free rein to your creative fantasies.

After transferring the image to plywood, carefully cut out the desired shape with a jigsaw, the work is quite painstaking, since in most cases the toys are quite compact.

After the drill, make a small hole for the tape or thread, now you can safely proceed to the decorative finish. Bright colors (acrylic, gouache) will give the craft a special festive look, patterns made by burning in combination with lacquer coating - an imitation of antiquity.

The subtleties that you need to learn to create quality crafts

  1. When attaching carbon paper to plywood, you should position buttons or studs so that you can easily lift the drawing to control image quality.
  2. Lay the thinnest elements along the location of the fibers to increase their strength.
  3. When should not move exactly along the lines, but pass next to it, from the outside.
  4. The diameter of the hole should be slightly larger than the studs used for them to rotate freely.
  5. Don't drive the nails in completely, you may need to transfer certain details to improve the model.

Conclusion

You can find a variety of drawings of plywood toys with a jigsaw on the Internet and use them at your discretion. If you have questions in the process of making toys, watch the video in this article.

Christmas tree decorations were the first of their kind. Later they learned how to make glass products, and plastic came into use relatively recently. Despite the variety of modern materials for production, plywood Christmas tree decorations do not lose their relevance and return to New Year trees.

Why you should get a plywood Christmas tree toy

Home collections are mostly filled with modern plastic decorations that are bought every year, or antique glass balls and figurines that our mothers and grandmothers used to decorate Christmas trees in childhood. Christmas decorations made of plywood are almost never found.

Why it is worth getting a couple of plywood sheet toys:

  • The original handmade jewelry will not be found anywhere else;
  • The ability to decorate the Christmas tree to your liking;
  • An occasion to do craftsmanship and make a toy with your own hands, an opportunity to entertain a child and spend time together;
  • New product at least every day;
  • A bunch of positive emotions from the result.

Christmas decorations do not lose their relevance for several seasons: they not only decorate a tree, but also hang them on walls, doors, and give them to each other. Crafts can also be made specifically for a gift or sale to those who wish to receive exclusive New Year's attributes.

We make crafts with our own hands

As already mentioned, making your own jewelry is much more valuable than acquiring ready-made typical toys. This is a very simple process, it is enough to acquire the necessary material, tools and connect your imagination.

Why do we choose plywood sheets as a material for Christmas toys:

  • You can use old trim sheets used for construction;

  • Crafts can be of any size;
  • Christmas decorations made of plywood do not break, do not break, they can be safely given to children.

So let's get started.

Preparation of the workplace and tools

In order to make a Christmas tree decoration with our own hands, we will use a small workbench or, in extreme cases, a kitchen table, previously covered with thick oilcloth. In order not to damage the countertop, we recommend laying a plywood sheet on it.

For cutting you will need:

  • Manual or electric jigsaw (whichever one is available);
  • Drill with a set of drills;
  • Fine sandpaper;
  • To securely fix the fragments, it is ideal to use hot glue from an electric gun. In extreme cases, prepare wood glue and PVA;
  • Acrylic paints and clear fixing varnish of the same material;
  • Decorations: paper, beads, polyethylene crumbs, trimmings of tinsel and satin ribbons, foil, ready-made images of New Year and Christmas themes - this item is limited only by your imagination.

Option 1: a regular Christmas tree decoration

Ordinary Christmas decorations made of plywood are flat, in the form of various fairy-tale characters, traditional New Year's attributes and heroes. To accurately and accurately cut the desired contour, prepare image templates in advance. They can be drawn on paper or downloaded from the Internet, printed and cut out.

  1. Transfer the image to a plywood sheet - circle the template.

  1. Armed with a jigsaw, cut out the toy along the drawn outline. When working with an electric tool, there are no problems, the process goes smoothly even for an inexperienced student.

It is more difficult with a manual jigsaw: the file must be directed strictly along the contour so that the hand does not tremble and the blade does not jump off and cut off the excess. For a mechanical tool, prepare replacement files in advance.

  1. Use a drill to drill a hole in the top of the toy.

  1. Use sandpaper to process the saw cuts, focusing on the resulting chips.
  2. Now the artwork. If Christmas toys are supposed to be objects of natural wood color, then skip this paragraph. If you want to create a complete decorative effect, cover the workpiece with white acrylic enamel - it will become the background for future decorations. When the layer dries, apply the main pattern with paints.

  1. If you don’t want to paint the craft yourself, glue the finished picture cut out of paper or cardboard to the blank. For fixing, use PVA glue diluted with water in a ratio of 1: 1.

  1. Stage of volumetric decoration. Beads, decorative snow, tinsel, foil come into play - everything that fantasy aims at. Fix these decorations with hot glue or transparent carpentry. At the end, cover the surface of the craft with acrylic varnish to fix the result.

  1. Thread a satin rope into the hole and tie a knot or a beautiful bow - the toy for decorating the spruce is ready.

Option 2: Volumetric Decoration

By this concept we mean Christmas tree decorations made of several parts or those that can be placed.

Do-it-yourself compound Christmas tree crafts are no more difficult to make than flat ones, on the contrary, the process becomes more exciting.

  1. We take the same base material and transfer the template to it.

  1. For complex products, we make markings for holes according to the scheme.
  2. Cut out the contour, clean the edges.
  3. We connect fragments. If the toy is flat composite, we use ribbons or nylon threads for connection, which we tie into strong double or triple knots. If the toy is on a support, we work with the blanks according to the instructions, for example, we insert the parts into each other.
  4. The decor of individual fragments can be done immediately after the preparation of individual elements or after assembly. In any case, the workpiece is subject to the same processing as a flat toy: enamel, picture, drawing, three-dimensional decor, varnish fixation.

Volumetric Christmas decorations made of plywood can be used not only for hanging on New Year's trees, but also as an independent toy for a child as a gift.

A home-made thing, especially made of wood, can occupy a child for a longer time than modern expensive toys, and interest in it remains for a longer time. This is another argument in favor of making plywood products useful.

Garland

Christmas tree beads are an element as important as the toys themselves. Here we also include elegant garlands for a tree or a room. They can also be made of plywood according to the same principle as described above.

A few tips:

  1. The garland for the Christmas tree should be made in a simple way so that the decoration fits organically into the overall composition. Choose from flags, circles, and other simple shapes. This will help save time - there will be a lot of elements for cutting and decorating.
  2. Use satin ribbons and decorative ropes to connect the elements so that the appearance of the product remains solemn.
  3. To fix the fragments on a string, tie knots at the location of the element. So he will maintain his position with any slope of the thread.
  4. Draw the ends of the rope into loops so that it is convenient to hang the garland.

What are the results

A couple of hours of work, satisfaction from the perfect process and pleasure from the result - all the emotions in a plywood toy. Add the attention of households and guests to a hand-made product and success is guaranteed. Handmade products never go out of fashion, they are passed down from generation to generation, carrying a piece of memory with them. Have you ever seen such a set of values and emotions contained in a mass-produced plastic toy?

New Year's plywood toys are a great opportunity to show your imagination and bring interesting ideas to life. The cost of such toys is minimal, and the result is not very bad. In addition, such toys have an obvious plus - they do not fight. You can make them for yourself, for a gift or for a school, kindergarten (where there is an eternal shortage of Christmas tree decorations).

Stages of making Christmas toys from plywood

1. First of all, draw the desired fragments on plywood and cut them out with a jigsaw.
For my work, I chose the forms: a Christmas tree, a ball, a heart, a handle, as well as a blank for a house.
It will look no less interesting: a bell, boots, an oval, an asterisk.

The edges of the blanks should be treated with sandpaper. And I almost forgot about the most important thing - we make a hole in the upper part of the blanks.
2. The next step is to cover the blanks with white acrylic paint. The paint can be applied with a brush or sponge. It is enough to cover on one side.
3. After the paint has dried, you can cover the other side of the blanks (with a different or the same color) and make inscriptions with wishes.

4. You can start decorating the front side. The technique we use is called decoupage. The essence is very simple: choose a napkin with the motif you like and carefully cut off the excess around the picture. We stratify the napkin, using only the top layer with a pattern.

We apply it to the workpiece and cover it with a solution (PVA glue + water, ratio 1 to 1) with smoothing movements of the brush. Dry the product.

5. We color the product by choosing the background that is most suitable for the drawing. The edges can be covered with paint of a different color with a sponge.

6. We varnish the finished work in two layers.
7. We thread the ribbon, make a bow and the toy is ready.

And here is another toy - "House". The principle of manufacture is the same, only the design is different.

When the pattern is applied in the upper part, we glue a loop of tape, then ice cream sticks (top and bottom), and glue wine corks cut into several pieces along the edges. All fragments are painted with paint.

We cover the product with varnish and supplement it with snow. In this case, snow is finely chopped polyethylene.

As you can see, everyone can make Christmas toys out of plywood! And if you have difficulties with the manufacture of the blanks themselves, then you should not despair. Before the New Year, ready-made blanks for toys are always sold. And finally, I suggest you watch master classes on New Year's toys from improvised materials:
