Soft tile shinglas do-it-yourself installation instructions. Laying shingles technonikol shinglas. Finished roofing systems Shinglas

The life of the roof without the need for repair directly depends on the choice of roofing material. Tiling is a classic roof covering in many countries at all times, it is still relevant today. Shinglas shingles based on bituminous binder have the greatest similarity with a real ceramic coating. It gives a neat and presentable appearance to the facade, retains its appearance, and also has the function of damping sounds!

What is shinglas?

Shinglas bituminous tile is a piece waterproofing and roofing material. Roof covering elements are made from oxidized or modified bitumen, mainly from European raw materials. The Shinglas technology was developed in Spain; in Russia, production is carried out by the TechnoNIKOL company under the control of the Spanish company Chova.

The main plant for the production of soft roofing is located in Ryazan. From here, durable and practical shinglas shingles are delivered all over the country.

Compound

A distinctive feature of shinglas technonikol roofing is the multi-layered elements. Each sheet consists of several functional layers (from top to bottom):

  1. Sprinkling of basalt chips or powder of different fractions. Often colored.
  2. Bitumen modified or oxidized (depending on the series).
  3. Fiberglass is a load-bearing strength element.
  4. Bituminous impregnation bottom.
  5. Self-adhesive film that protects the canvas and fixes the canvas on the base.

Fiberglass ensures the strength of the tile and its integrity under any circumstances. Bituminous impregnation is resistant to weather and temperature fluctuations, and basalt powder protects the roof from overheating, melting and fading under the scorching sun. The quality of shinglas technonikol soft tiles is confirmed by certificates of compliance with established European and Russian standards, the manufacturer gives a guarantee of up to 30 years.

Advantages of Shinglas Roofing

There are many manufacturers on the market offering bitumen roofing. Why you should give preference to shinglas tiles:

  • absolute resistance to any weather phenomena - rains, snow covers of considerable thickness and weight, winds of any strength, summer heat and winter frost, the coating is not afraid of anything;
  • ease of installation of shinglas - the technology is available even to a non-professional. The design of the sheets for assembly is thought out in such a way that they are easy to lay according to simple instructions;
  • environmental friendliness of tiles is confirmed by certificates of quality and compliance with European environmental safety standards (can be requested from the manufacturer or seller);
  • fire safety - bituminous products do not melt, do not support combustion and do not spread flame;
  • long-term operation due to high operational capacity;
  • acceptable cost of the material;
  • the minimum amount of waste during installation - about 5% with correct calculations;
  • with proper installation, 100% tightness of the coating is achieved, eliminating the need for arranging a separate waterproofing.

Varieties

Shinglas soft roof is available in several basic series, products in which differ in composition and design:

  • the number of layers;
  • the shape of the shingle (sheet);
  • ornament;
  • colors.

Collection Continent

The collection is named after the main continents of the planet: Europe, Asia, America, Africa, which associate the colors of the tiles. Its shape imitates stone tiles, which is very unusual for this type of material. The complex coloring and geometry of the product make the Continent Shinglas collection premium and noble.

Three-layer sheets, but no less practical and durable than multi-layer ones, the manufacturer gives a guarantee for them up to 50 years.

Collection Western

The classic form of tiles in the Western collection. This is a diamond-shaped undercut that mimics real ceramics. Canyon, Klondike, Niagara and Prairie colorways combine natural tiling with Niagara blue motifs.

In addition, the upper parts of the "tongues" protrude above the lower ones, creating the effect of volumetric coverage.

shinglas ranch

The sheets in the Ranch collection are inspired by American farmhouses. The pattern and edges of the tiled sheets are trimmed with squares. Solid colors: brown, red, gray, pink. This is the most affordable type of coating in Shinglas technology.

Country Collection

The most diverse collection of shinglas Country in terms of color schemes. The line includes cuts of the Dragon's tooth shape, symbolizing some American states: Alabama, Atlanta, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, Ontario, Ohio, Texas, Utah. Interesting tint combinations allow you to make a choice in favor of the ideal tonality for each. The coating imitates natural coatings from natural material - shingles, slate, tree bark. A distinctive feature of the products of the series is their reduced weight while maintaining the strength and performance characteristics.

Jazz Collection

Shinglas Jazz is a multilayer tile with graphic cutting. Unlike the Ranch series, Jazz contains several colors and shades within one representative of the collection. The assembled roof plays with colors, especially in the sun.
This is one of the most popular shinglas collections with an optimal price-quality ratio.

Series Classic

Classic includes several collections, but one thing unites them - the traditional form of classical ceramic tiles.

Art Nouveau, cutting Breeze:

Tango is also an imitator of the classic roof:

The Flamenco collection is the epitome of the classic decoration of the building, which will give the house austerity and graphic quality:

The cutting of the Sonata of the Quadrille collection was created based on semiprecious stones:

The Rumba collection in complex cuts and deep walnut colors gives the exterior of the house a nobility and uniqueness:

Ultra Series

The tiles of this series are made on modified bitumen, so the coating has the most adaptive performance characteristics. The sophisticated Foxtrot cutting makes the coating original due to the asymmetrical chaotic pattern of the edge of the rows.

Slicing Samba is made in unique deep colors:

A series of shingles Finnish

This is the cheapest, but still durable and practical type of roofing. Tiles Finnish single-layer (bituminous). It is produced in two types of trim - Accord and Sonata.

The price of Finnish shinglas does not exceed the cost of metal sheets for roofing, so the material is available for developers with any budget.

Shinglas roof installation

Bituminous elements for roof covering are of considerable weight and relatively small in size, so the base must be solid. To do this, any sheet material is attached to the rafters:

  • OSB boards;
  • moisture resistant plywood;
  • decking from grooved boards.

On the cornice overhang of the flooring, waterproofing is made with bituminous coating, and a dropper - a metal profile - is strengthened from above.

Next, a bedding is laid on the base - a bitumen sheet, on which shinglas tiles will be glued. First, the joints of the slopes are blocked, then the canvas is spread in the direction from the lower edge to the ridge. Nails are stuffed along the edge of the rolled material to fix the bedding. Neighboring canvases must be overlapped.

Now the gables. They are fixed along the lateral free edge - the profile will close the end and protect the coating from wind and moisture.

Shinglas installation instructions

When the base is ready, you can start marking. A line is drawn horizontally along the visor with a width equal to 5 rows of sheets, vertically - 1 meter. These guidelines will help you align the canvas during installation.

First row assembly:

  1. To decorate the cornice line, special sheets or ordinary tiles with cut petals are used. Remove the protective film and attach it parallel to the eaves on the drip, stepping back from the edge of 1.5 cm. This is the size of the compensation gap.
  2. Roofing nails along the edge of the sheet fix the first row of the coating.
  3. Subsequent sheets overlap the previous ones.
  4. To improve the quality of the coupling, the elements can be coated with bitumen-based adhesive mastic.

Ordinary tile:

  1. The protective film is removed from the product.
  2. The sheet is laid on the first row with an indent from the edge of 1.5 cm.
  3. Each sheet is fixed with nails in such a way that the cap does not cut into the product and is covered by the top laid tiles.

These processes are described in more detail and clearly in the video:

It is important to make the correct overlap of tiles:

  • for the Jazz collection - 15 ... 85 cm;
  • Trio form - offset by ½ petal;
  • Tango - offset ½ petal;
  • Sonata - ½ petal;
  • cutting Accord - the right petal overlaps the joint of tiles of the adjacent row.

Valley design:

  1. Mark the gutter.
  2. Sheets are nailed as close as possible to the edge of the gutter and trimmed.
  3. The edges are smeared with mastic and pressed tightly to the base.

The pediment is designed similarly to slopes, with the difference that the extreme tiles that go to the side metal profile are smeared with mastic and glued. The connections to the pipes are treated in a similar way, a substrate is laid on them with a call to the pipe itself, it is covered with a metal design plate, and sealed.

A ridge profile is attached to the ridge, it is covered with tiles for the ridge.

All these processes are described in the second part of the video:

Lastly, I mount storm drains and gutters.

I have already written several articles on the topic of roofing materials: (MC) compared to metal tiles (MCH) and.

Today the turn has come to talk about the installation of Shinglas tiles from the site. Helped me with installation of shingles two people who are more experienced in this matter than I am, so I learned a lot from them. But it’s real to mount flexible tiles with one’s own hands. Most importantly, do not forget to use insurance, as the roof is very slippery - and OSB and lining carpet, and even the shingles themselves. Well, call at least one assistant who will play the role of a loader and throw sheets of warheads on your roof.

For my roof, I chose a flexible tile of domestic production as a roofing material shinglas from the collection Country with the title Michigan. At a price, it is noticeably cheaper than a foreign one (almost 2 times), but in terms of quality, according to reviews, it does not differ (except for the color range, and even then I'm not sure).

Together with shingles(150 sq.m. ordinary and 15 sq.m. cornice and ridge) were also purchased:
— Gutter system made of metal GrandLine 90 mm
– Vilpe roof ventilation + Huopa penetrations.
- Corrector for repairing scratches (you need a piece when working with metal)
— Sealant roofing Tytan rubber
- Sealant gun
- Fixer mastic - 15.6 kg (6 kg was enough in the end)
– Lining carpets – 150 sq.m. Adnerep (not enough, had to buy another roll, think about overlaps!)
— Plank drip 100×60 white Atlas coating (aka cornice plank)
— Wind bar for soft roofing 60x30x90 white Atlas coating

We also bought 3,000 nails for the roofing nailer.

Installation of flexible shingles Shinglas. Stage 1. Cornice and frontal boards

I decided to make cornice and frontal boards in Scandinavian style from wooden boards with a “ladder”. Planed boards 20mm thick and 6 meters long. At first they were “tousled” with a grinder with a special nozzle (they became not so beautiful, but I think everything was absorbed much better and deeper). After that I primed them, let them dry, then went over them with 180 grit sanding paper. After that, two coats of paint were applied in a few days.

At the beginning, I nailed a board, spread in half lengthwise, it acts as a mortgage for attaching the second board from above.

The boards were fastened to the rafters with finishing nails using 15GA Freeman nailer. After fixing and trimming, I puttied all the cracks and nails and painted over all the boards with another coat of paint. After that, I painted over all the ends with a special composition (for greater protection). Paint bought Swedish - Teknos. The soil is theirs too. Well, the protection of the ends is similar.

Installation of flexible shingles Shinglas. Stage 2. OSB-3, eaves and wind strips, as well as Anderep underlayment

The next step was to fix the OSB to the crate, and then immediately lay the lining carpet (so that the OSB does not get wet and swollen - such precedents happen).

Let me remind you that I have a crate on the roof with a step of 350 mm (initially for metal), so I had to add 5 more rows of crate so that the OSB joints fall on the crate.

It is very important to set the OSB exactly along the eaves, and you need to install it, immediately holding the cornice strip (drip) in your hand. Moreover, you must first temporarily screw the hooks of the drainage system into place, at least in three places (along the edges and in the middle of the cornice board). After that, it will be clear how much to release the cornice strip (water and snow should roll off it into the middle of the gutter, and not to the beginning), and hence the release of the OSB. In my case, the OSB stood out for the extreme crate by 4 cm.

After fixing the first sheets of OSB along the cornice, you can mount the cornice strip, and already on top of it the lining carpet. It is better to mount the bar along a thread stretched in advance along the slope. Then, on this evenly set bar, it will be convenient to mount the flexible tiles.

On the eaves I took a thick Anderep Ultra self-adhesive carpet. For the rest of the slope - Anderep Prof (it is thinner and requires gluing layers with mastic, but it is enough for my eyes for my slope of 26 degrees). The carpet is attached from below to the previous layer on the mastic, and mechanically from above - with nails. We did an overlap of 10 centimeters, everything was plentiful, but smeared with a thin layer of mastic.

On the gables, it is better to initially release a little more OSB, and then cut it along the thread with a circular saw in place, so it will be more accurate. We did just that. Moreover, the carpet also needs to be released more, and then bent back and, after drinking the OSB, cut off to the right place. But if you make a little mistake - it's not scary. There, a wind metal bar will immediately rise and close the carpet. It will already be attached to it flexible tile on a layer of mastic 10 centimeters long.

By the way, our wind bar was not immediately ready for use, it had an extra bend. As they explained to me in the Grand Line, this is done for the best water slope, only you need to roll this bend yourself and press it to the bar. We did it with a hammer through a piece of wood. And we didn't really like it. But nothing can be done, it turns out the plank is half "do it yourself".

I moved the wind bar 1 cm away from the wooden upper frontal board in order to take moisture away from the tree. Also, the metal of the plank vertically closed the board by about 1.5 cm. I liked the final look.

A necessary thing when installing flexible tiles: a broom!

Installation of flexible shingles Shinglas. Stage 3. The tile itself

First of all, a special cornice tile is placed on the cornice along the entire length, and we laid it so that it almost completely covered the cornice plank, about 1.5 centimeters remained uncovered.

I must say right away that when installing flexible tiles on my roof, we did not do everything according to the instructions. Reality, sometimes, is much at odds with the instructions, so it happened this time.

For example, it turned out that it is much more economical and more convenient to install flexible tiles from the edge, and not from the center of the slope. To do this, we take two sheets shingles and cut them into pieces 20cm-80cm and 40cm-60cm. We also take the third sheet 100 cm long. Now we begin to mount from the edge one above the other: 100, 80, 60, 40, 20. We have the first five rows. Now we will simply add a whole sheet to each of the rows and the seams will be at a distance of 20 cm from each other. Thus, from the scraps, we will only have those parts that we cut off at the other end of the slope, and then those usually also go into smaller pieces. I have about 2 squares left from the entire roof, that is, 1%, instead of the 5-10% declared by the manufacturer.

ATTENTION. This method only works for shingles Country and Jazz, since the pattern there is not orthogonal, but random. With orthogonal shingles, you need to do it differently and most likely it makes sense to start from the middle of the slope.

Installation of flexible shingles Shinglas. Stage 4. Vilpe ventilation pipes

It seemed most convenient for us to make penetrations not in a specific place with perfect accuracy, but in approximately the right place (and then bring penetration through the corrugation to a specific pipe). This allowed us to start installing the penetration in place immediately after the one-piece piece of shingles and cut everything to a minimum, and do all the seams not above the penetration, but in other places.

The only thing that we did not according to the instructions was that we did not tighten the screws, but replaced them with screw roofing nails, and the 3 screws that screw down the penetrations simply did not fasten, extra holes in the roof were not needed, since we planted it firmly on mastic.

This is what it looks like in the end:

True, the roof is visible mainly to neighbors, I can only see it from the other end of the site, so especially do not choose flexible tiles for beauty. Better choose for strength: two-layer and laminated: country or jazz. Jazz is the same, just a little thicker.

Among the wide variety of covering materials, one of the most popular today is Shinglas roofing - bituminous tiles, represented in Russia by the TechnoNIKOL Corporation trademark of the same name. It is valued for its versatility, functionality, practicality, economy and beauty. The latest developments, the best raw materials and the invaluable experience of experts are embodied in the Shinglas soft roof, which can decorate any building and withstand the test of strength in any climatic conditions with honor.

Roofing materials
description and characteristics

The history of soft tiles goes back over a century. Its creators are considered to be Americans - immigrants from the Old World, who found a replacement for their beloved and familiar, but imperfect and fragile clay tiles, which crowned castles, fortresses, residences, temples and cathedrals of Europe for centuries.

The residence of the Grand Masters of the Teutonic Order in Malbork (Poland) looks mysterious and fascinating under a tiled roof

Initially, these were roll materials impregnated with bitumen, vaguely resembling modern roofing material. The transition to cutting canvases into separate fragments (shingles) began in 1903 and at first was limited to only two shapes - rectangular and hexagonal. But by the 30s of the XX century, the cardboard base was replaced with fiberglass, new forms of cutting appeared - a rhombus, a dragon's tooth, a beaver's tail and a three-petal model. This ensured the huge popularity of shingles among private homeowners, which has not weakened to this day. Shinglas roofing has become an attractive and democratic coating, which was taken care of by professionals and time, and now its owners can only enjoy world achievements in the production of materials for comfortable living.

Video: features and benefits of soft roofing

Under the definition of a soft roof "Shinglas" falls a large family of roofing materials that are different in purpose, composition and method of use:

  1. Construction chemistry:
    • antiseptics based on modern biocides, which protect the wooden elements of the roof from rot, house fungus, mold, woodworms;
    • fire and bioprotective impregnations with a fire protection period of about 7 years and bioprotection for more than 20 years, which transform wood into the category of slow-burning materials;
    • mastics for gluing joints of lining material, seams of soft tiles, junctions and valley carpet.
  2. Ventilation and drainage systems - plastic penetrations, aerators, valves, seals and ventilation outlets.

    Spot aerators for soft roofs, which prevent the formation of condensate and wetting of the insulation, are usually located near the ridge

  3. Lining and valley carpets are high-strength and reliable rolled products with a polyester or polyester backing, as well as with sand or basalt dressing of the top layer. They are lightweight, which together with the non-slip coating ensures safe installation.

    Anderep underlayment carpets for Shinglas soft roofing can also be used on copper, natural tile and slate roofs

  4. Rolled products and sealing tapes - vapor and windproof films, butyl rubber connecting tapes and diffusion membranes with a working layer of polypropylene film, which, due to its exceptional qualities, ensures the diffusion of water vapor, but prevents the passage of water. Of particular note in this group is the single-layer rolled shingle "Shinglas", which can rightfully be considered a high-quality economy class roof.

    Single-layer roll shingles "Shinglas" is a budget option for arranging a durable, reliable and beautiful roof

  5. Ridge and cornice extensions, as well as Shinglas flexible tiles and ready-made roofing systems.

Soft tile "Shinglas"

Shinglas tiles are single-layer or multi-layer shingles with figured cutouts along the outer edge, based on fiberglass, which perfectly holds its shape and, moreover, does not deform under the action of loads acting on the roof. The fiberglass core is covered on both sides with modified or oxidized bitumen, and then the top of the product is sprinkled with mineral chips, which give the roofing decking volume, color and protect it from ultraviolet radiation. From the wrong side, self-adhesive bitumen is applied to the shingles for fixing to a continuous crate and a protective polypropylene film, which is removed before laying the tile fragments.

Shinglas shingles are based on a reinforcing layer (fiberglass), treated on both sides with special compounds, thanks to which the shingles keep their shape well and do not deform under the influence of mechanical loads

Soft tile differs:

  • by the number of layers - single-layer, two-layer and three-layer tiles. The more layers, the greater the strength of products, water resistance, warranty period and, of course, the price;

    Two-layer tile "Shinglas" of the "Rancho" series of blue color organically complements the castle style of the house, and the textured relief gives the roof solidity and individuality

  • in the form of cutting;

    Shinglas tiles are cut into strips 1 m long, having petals of various shapes

  • according to the color scheme - monophonic shingles, with a tint or dimming.

    Flexible tile "Shinglas" is monophonic, darkened and with a sheen, depending on the type of crumb, which is sprinkled on the top layer

Despite the differences in characteristics, all Shinglas shingles have the following advantages:

Finished roofing systems Shinglas

Roofing systems "Shinglas" - a reasonable solution for the arrangement of the roof, thought out by experts to the smallest detail. They conveniently combine conventional production technologies and innovative materials that comply with the national quality certificate ISO 9001: 2015, which is the key to their durability. Shinglas systems have been developed for both cold (attic) and mansard roofs.

"TN-Shinglas Attic"

The Mansard system is in great demand in private housing construction during the construction of a warm mansard roof. Its distinguishing feature is the use of a super-diffusion membrane over the thermal insulation material, which helps to instantly remove wet vapors from the insulation, thus preventing heat loss. The structure of the Shinglas Mansarda system is as follows:

Advantages of the finished Shinglas Mansarda system:

  • ease of installation;
  • the ability to use on a variety of roofing configurations;
  • a large selection of colors and shades, as well as forms of cutting shingles of the upper flooring;
  • protection from noise and providing an excellent microclimate in the attic room.

"TN-Shinglas Attic PIR"

A feature of the finished PIR Attic system is Logicpir rigid fire-resistant insulation based on polyisocyanurate foam (PIR), laid along the edge of the rafters. The heat insulator used makes it possible to refuse from laying a superdiffusion membrane, since the aluminum foil present in the Logicpir boards creates a durable waterproof layer that reliably protects the roof structure from moisture. The roofing cake "TN-Shinglas Attic PIR" includes the following components:

Video: continuous flooring under Shinglas

Advantages of laying the finished Shinglas Attic PIR system:

  • the light weight of the structure does not exert additional load on the load-bearing elements of the roof;
  • the heat-insulating layer forms a closed circuit, not interrupted by rafter legs;
  • there are no cold bridges during the installation of insulation, therefore, the heat saving mode is observed;
  • windproof and waterproofing materials are not required.

"TN-Shinglas Classic"

An unheated attic is a simple and inexpensive roofing option that is most often chosen by summer residents, as well as homeowners who do not need additional living space or want to save on construction. And although the purpose of a cold attic is very limited, nevertheless it serves as protection for residential premises from cold and dampness. And this is already a lot.

A cold attic roofing pie looks like this:

Advantages of the system for an unheated attic:

  • convenience, simplicity and safety of installation;
  • the ability to use on roof structures of any shape, up to the most complex;
  • complete tightness of the roofing.

The device of a soft roof "Shinglas"

The finished roofing systems described above most fully demonstrate the composition of the roofing cake for a soft tile coating. If desired, other insulating and insulating materials can be used, but the laying sequence should remain unchanged:

There are no restrictions on the installation of the Shinglas soft roof. However, installation work must be carried out in accordance with SP 17.13330.2011 with additions and changes due to the appearance on the market of new building materials and SNiP 2.01.07–85 with amendments from 2008 for calculating snow and wind loads. In addition, it is advisable to listen to the recommendations of Shinglas manufacturers:

  1. To create the best thermal protection of the house and the durability of the building envelope, it is necessary to include a continuous vapor barrier in the composition of the soft roof, provide good ventilation and lay insulation of the thickness that is optimal for a particular area.
  2. It is not recommended to use products with different color codes on the same roof. To minimize color disharmony, it is advisable to randomly mix 5-7 packs of bituminous shingles before laying and mount the Shinglas in diagonal stripes.
  3. If roofing works are carried out at outdoor temperatures below +5 ºC, then Shinglas packages should be served from a warm storage to produce no more than 5–7 packs and the self-adhesive strip on the shingles should be heated with a heat gun.
  4. In order to prevent violation of the solidity of the soft roof, you need to cut the materials on a specially placed board.
  5. Avoid exposure to the shingles "Shinglas" scorching sunlight to prevent untimely sintering of the adhesive composition with a silicone protective film.
  6. In clear, hot or cold, humid weather, it is recommended to use special manholes to move on the roof. This will prevent the formation of stains on the soft surface and the appearance of marks from shoes.
  7. For free separation of the shingles from each other, you need to slightly bend and shake the package before opening.

Calculation of material for soft roof "Shinglas"

Before starting installation work and purchasing materials, you need to calculate the roof using an online calculator (often it can be found on the official website of the bituminous tile manufacturer) or manually using the geometric formulas for the area of a square, triangle, trapezoid, etc., taking into account overlaps, waste and marriage. If a house project was originally made, then all the necessary initial data for the calculation are contained in the working documentation. Otherwise, after erecting the rafter system and checking the geometry of the slopes, you will have to draw a sketch of the roof on paper and apply measurements to it.

In the absence of project documentation for the calculation of roofing materials, a sketch of the roof is required

Let's carry out calculations manually with the following initial data:

  • house size 10x20 m all-season residence;
  • gable roof with a slope length of 6 m, together with a cornice overhang, which has a brick chimney with an area of 2 m² and a perimeter of 6 m, as well as one sewer exit and a dormer window with dimensions of 2.2x1.5 m and an area of 3.3 m².

To determine the amount of roofing material, you must perform the following steps:

Thus, to cover the roof in question, you need to buy 95 packs of Shinglas "Country" shingles.

When calculating auxiliary materials, it is necessary to proceed from existing standards:

  • consumption of fasteners (nails) is 80 g/m²;
  • the need for mastic compositions: for gluing overlaps of lining material - 100 g / linear meter, valley - 400 g / linear meter;
  • consumption of mastic for sealing joints - 750 g / linear meter when applying a layer with a thickness of not more than 1 mm.

It is advisable to check self-made calculations using online calculators, which are usually posted on the websites of roofing manufacturers.

Similarly, the number of trim strips is calculated: N d = L ∙ (1 + K) / L s, where L is the total length of any type of additional element (ridge, cornice, etc.) in running meters, K is the percentage of marriage and trimming of the material, Lc - the number of linear meters in one package. The K coefficient is usually taken equal to 5–10% (0.05–0.1). For example, the required number of drip strips for our roof will be 2 ∙ 10 ∙ (1 + 0.1) / 2 = 11 pcs. It is assumed here that two cornices 10 m long each are closed with a drip, and the standard length of the additional plank is 2 m.

After purchasing everything you need, you can proceed with the installation of the Shinglas Country soft roof, following all the recommendations, in order to get an attractive, absolutely waterproof and durable roof as a result.

Shinglas shingles installation

The arrangement of any roof, including when using the Shinglas soft roof, must be carried out in accordance with the rules and regulations, as well as installation instructions.

First of all, you need to remember that a standard roofing pie for bituminous tiles is arranged on roofs with a slope of at least 1:5, that is, 12 º. Otherwise, it is necessary to install a double underlayment and increase the ventilation gap to 80 mm.

Work order:

  1. Shinglas soft roof installation begins with stuffing a solid, even and secure base over the sheathing. It should provide good air circulation under the roof, for which the supply holes are placed at the cornice overhangs, and the exhaust holes are placed closer to the ridge. The base for flexible tiles is made of OSB-3 boards, moisture-resistant plywood or edged boards with a moisture content of not more than 18–20%. The boards of the base (or slab) must be at least two spans long between the bearing supports, butted on the supports and fixed with four nails. To avoid swelling during the linear expansion of wood, gaps of 1–3 mm are left between the elements of a continuous flooring. When arranging a wooden base, the boards are pre-sorted by thickness, placing the thicker ones at the cornice overhang so that the base plane is as even as possible.
  2. A lining carpet is laid transversely or longitudinally on the prepared solid flooring as an additional waterproofing. There is one caveat here - with a roof slope of less than 1: 3 (18º), the lining carpet is laid over the entire surface. In other cases, partial laying is acceptable in particularly problematic places - on roof overhangs, ridges, valleys, ribs, ventilation passages, skylights and chimneys. The lining material is mounted without sagging with an overlap of strips of 15 cm, gluing the seams and fixing the edges with roofing nails at intervals of 20 cm.

    The order of laying and fixing the lining carpet is determined by the angle of the roof

  3. On top of the lining carpet, metal cornice and end strips are installed to strengthen and protect roof overhangs. They are laid with an edge and fixed in a checkerboard pattern with an interval of 12–15 cm with roofing nails. The planks are mounted with an overlap of 30–50 mm and the overlaps are stitched with two nails to ensure a strong connection. In the area of the cornice overhang, brackets for gutters are fixed. A valley carpet is laid with an overlap of 30 cm, gluing it to the lining material with mastic or bituminous glue and fixing it along the edge with nails.

    The valley carpet is laid over the underlayment, fixing it to bituminous mastic and roofing nails.

  4. Before installing the shingles, the slopes are marked to align the Shinglas vertically and horizontally. Then lay the starting row of ridge-cornice universal tiles, starting from the middle of the cornice overhang and moving towards the ends. The protective film is removed, the shingles are glued to the underlayment carpet and each is fixed with four, and with a steep slope - with six nails. Next, a bituminous ordinary tile is mounted with an offset in each row by half a petal. For some collections, the offset interval can vary between 15–85 cm, while the coating pattern turns out to be abstract.

    Shinglas shingles are additionally fixed with nails so that the top row of the coating overlaps the nail heads

  5. The shingles are laid in pyramidal or diagonal stripes, depending on the type of cutting. At the ends, the fragments are cut and glued to a width of 10 cm from the edge. The same is done in the places where the valleys pass.

    At the edges of the slopes, the shingles are cut and laid on a layer of bituminous mastic 10 cm wide

  6. Arrange roof penetrations. For small output elements (aerators, antennas), rubber seals are used, and thermal insulation is laid around the chimneys. At the junction of the chimneys with the roof, a triangular rail is stuffed around the perimeter and, for complete sealing, the pipes are wrapped with self-adhesive tape at a distance of 25 cm up the pipe and 20 cm along the slope. From above, the material of the valley carpet is laid to a width of 50 cm with sizing mastic and covered with a metal apron.

    The exit points of small ventilation elements are sealed using rubber seals, and the chimney passage is protected with a heat insulator with a valley carpet

  7. Decorate the edges of the slopes and skates. For ribs, ridge-cornice tiles are used, dividing it into 3 parts along the perforation line. The arrangement of the ridge begins from the side opposite to the dominant winds. Cut ordinary shingles that go to the ribs and ridges, leaving a 3-5 cm slot between the slopes to enhance ventilation. Then, with an overlap of 5 cm, ridge tiles are laid and each fragment is fixed with four nails (2 on each side), making sure that each subsequent element overlaps the fasteners of the previous one. When performing work in cold weather, in order to prevent cracking of the material, it is recommended to form a break in each fragment before mounting the ribs and ridges, using a metal pipe 10 cm in diameter heated to 40 ºC.

    The edges of the slopes and ridge knots are trimmed with special strips consisting of three shingles

Operation and repair of a soft roof

When operating a Shinglas roof, you must follow simple generally accepted rules of care:

  1. Check the condition of the soft roof twice a year - in spring and autumn.
  2. Remove small debris, leaves and branches with a soft brush, and sharp objects by hand.
  3. Periodically clean drains to ensure free flow of water.
  4. Timely remove snow from the roof with a wooden shovel, removing it in layers and leaving a protective snow cover 10 cm thick.
  5. If any defects are detected during the inspection, immediately proceed to repair the coating.

Current repair of the roof "Shinglas"

Shinglas soft roofing is an excellent maintainable material. Therefore, in case of damage caused by various factors, it is permissible to do local repairs of the roofing on your own. For this:

Manufacturers of shingles "Shinglas" give a long-term guarantee for their products. However, in case of violation of laying technologies, building codes and regulations, as well as the use of low-quality components, the guarantee for a soft roof does not apply.

Flexible tile SHINGLAS is a modern flexible coating for pitched roofs produced by TECHNONICOL Corporation. Shinglas roofing has several shape options and many colors; it has found wide application in the construction of residential buildings, administrative and public buildings with pitched roofs, due to its durability, noise absorption, frost resistance and ease of installation.

The SHINGLAS tile is a multilayer material, the middle layer is made of fiberglass, it is treated on both sides with bitumen-polymer binders. Protective layers are provided above and below, basalt topping with grains of a large fraction is used for the front layer, a fine fraction topping is applied from below. On the lower finish coating, a self-adhesive layer of bitumen-polymer substance is provided, for the reliability of the installation of the coating, it is protected by an easily removable siliconized film. SHINGLAS multi-layer tile coating is used both for roofs with a cold attic and for mansards. Bearing structures can be metal, wood or reinforced concrete. Shinglas roofing requires a continuous sheathing and the laying of a special roll material that provides additional waterproofing. The attic similarly includes a lining layer, and flooring. Insulation is made with mineral wool insulation. A PVC hydro-windproof membrane is laid on top of the insulation; it allows air to pass through, but protects from wind and rain. From below, the insulation is also protected from evaporation from the underlying premises with a vapor barrier film. Shinglas tiles are used for pitched roofs, both when laying the primary coating, and when replacing an existing one. The slope of the roof must be 12° or more.. Installation of a shinglas soft roof includes several operations according to the instructions:

  • fixing tiles of the material with roofing nails with broadened hats;
  • gluing the material tiles together due to the self-adhesive layer;
  • device for sealing roofing units using special mastic.

Roof base

The step of the lathing in wooden rafter roofs is taken in the range from 0.6 m to 1.5 m, the thickness of the base directly depends on it.
Rafter pitch / Lathing, mmOSB-3 thicknessFSF plywood thickness, mmBoard thickness, mm
300 9 9 -
600 12 12 20
900 18 18 23
1200 21 21 30
1500 27 27 37
The instruction provides for several types of flooring:
  • oriented strand board;
  • moisture resistant plywood (FSF);
  • grooved board, edged.
When installing flooring in winter, it is necessary to provide for expansion gaps due to the fact that at high temperatures such materials tend to expand. For a board 1.5 cm, for a large-panel base made of plywood and oriented boards 0.3 cm.
The laying of the shields must be carried out so that the seams between them do not coincide with each other, observe the run-up, fasten to the crate with self-tapping screws or nailed nails. All wooden structures are impregnated to protect against biological damage and fire protection.

If the installation of tiles is planned in winter or autumn, at temperatures from +5˚С and below, it is important to follow a number of rules:
  • store the material in a heated room and feed it to the roof directly during the installation process;
  • heat the adhesive layer with a building hair dryer before installation.

Material laying

The instruction for the installation of a flexible coating, in addition to the waterproofing carpet manufactured by TechnoNIKOL, provides for the installation of an additional carpet made of a special material of the OSGCh Barrier. It is a rolled, bituminous polymer material, which is glued to the flooring thanks to a self-adhesive layer. This may be necessary in places characteristic of leaks, such as valleys, cornices, frontal overhangs, ridges, ridges, places where communications pass through the roof. The material must be laid, observing certain rules:
  • in the valley zone, the material is placed on both slopes of 50 cm each;
  • along the cornice edge, the material is laid over the entire width of the overhang, with a spade of 60 cm in the direction of the ridge;
  • along the valley, the material should be laid in a single sheet, without joints;
  • if it is impossible to comply with the previous rule, the overlap must be at least 30 cm, with the material gluing together;
  • additional carpets can be made from ordinary lining material, while it must be glued to the base using bituminous mastic.
The rest of the roof covering is covered with TechnoNICOL underlayment. The overlap of the tapes across the slope should be at least 10 cm, and along the slope at least 15 cm, the overlap points must be coated with bituminous mastic. The layout starts from below and gradually rises to the ridge, the material is laid parallel to the eaves. The material is fastened to a solid flooring with galvanized nails with a widened hat, fastening step 20–25 cm.
Overhangs are framed with cornice strips. Fastening is carried out with roofing nails to the flooring with a step of 12–15 cm. Gables are framed with end strips, they are fastened over the lining layer to the ends of the roof structures also with a step of 12–15 cm. fastened in increments of 0.2–0.3 cm.

SHINGLAS installation

For ease of installation, it will be useful to apply marking lines to the coating, they will help align the material when laying in both directions. The verticals are applied in increments of 1 meter, along the length of the ordinary tiles, and the distance between the horizontals is made equal to five heights of the material tile, which is 80 cm.
An ordinary flexible tile looks like a sheet of a certain shape, with dimensions of 1x0.335 m, with cutouts on one side imitating petal tiles. The number of nails with which the tiles are fastened increases with the increase in the angle of inclination of the roof.. The greater the angle of inclination, the more fasteners are used; for roofs with a slope of 45–90 degrees, an average of 2 times more nails are required than for roofs with a slope of 12–45 degrees. It is important to properly drive nails into the material, the head of the nail should not crush the material of the tile, the tie-in can cause damage. The distance from the edges to the fasteners should be 2–3 cm. The fastening points and the distance between the nails, depending on the shape of the tile sheet and the angle of inclination, can be seen in the figure. Dotted lines indicate the location of the adhesive layer.
It is important to follow the instructions for laying the material in order to achieve a correct coating. The starting strip is attached first along the cornice line. Usually, a special cornice-ridge tile is used, it has a rectangular shape and is universally suitable for both cornice and ridge. The strip can also be cut from ordinary ordinary tiles. The first row almost completely covers the first strip, it is attached 1–2 cm above it. Laying sheets from the center in both directions, it is convenient to carry out for more accurate alignment of the material. The next row of shinglas should be attached so that the bottom of the cut tiles in the next row is flush with the top edge of the tiles in the first row. By shifting to one side or the other relative to the previous tile by half a petal, all rows of the slope are performed. Where the tiles do not have a self-adhesive layer, along the edges of the roof, it is necessary to smear them with bituminous mastic by 10 cm. The tiles should not be brought to the edge of the gable plank by 2–3 cm.

A valley is a pairing of two slopes, which is an internal break in the coating. In the valley area, tiles are laid in the following order:

  • if the slopes approaching the valley have different angles of inclination, the material is laid first on a more gentle slope, the tiles should cover the adjacent slope by 30 cm;
  • each edge entering the opposite slope is fastened with nails;
  • trimming of the material is carried out at a distance of several centimeters from the central axis of the valley towards a steeper slope;
  • trimming is carried out for each tile, it is also necessary to coat the edge of each tile with bituminous mastic, in places where there is no adhesive layer.

The ridge is the junction of two roof slopes, which is an external fracture of the coating. Installation of tiles on the ridges of the coating is carried out in the following sequence:
  • tiles of material adjacent to the ridge are trimmed to create a gap 0.5 cm wide;
  • along the break, two lines are outlined, the width of the future ridge;
  • tiles begin to be fixed from below, moving up, fastening is carried out with four nails, two on each side;
  • the overlying tile should overlap the previous one by 5 cm and overlap the nails.
  • Shingles installation
  • Arrangement of the valley, ribs, ridge, domed roofs, junctions and penetrations
  • Shinglas with different color codes cannot be used on the roof of the same building.

    Mixing tiles from 5-6 packs will help to avoid visible differences in the color shades of different parts of the roofing (if this is not done, then a subtle difference in color tones may be distinguishable on the finished roof).

    In cold weather (at outdoor temperatures below 5-10 degrees), Shinglas must be stored in a warm place for at least a day before installation. The temperature in the room should not be lower than 20 degrees, and no more than 5-6 packages should be taken out into the cold at a time. The following packages can only be delivered to the roof after the tiles from the previous ones have been laid.

    The self-adhesive strips on bituminous shingles need to be warmed up in cold weather. For this purpose, a building hair dryer is used.

    Tiling fastening

    Fig. 12 (scheme of fastening sheets with nails)

    The tile sheets on the slope are fastened to the continuous flooring with roofing nails resistant to corrosion. These wide-headed nails are driven in in such a way that the head does not go deep into the surface of the tile sheet either directly or obliquely. The bottom edge of the cap must be exactly in line with the surface of the tile (see top image in fig. 12).

    The required number of nails depends on the angle of the slopes, as well as on the SHINGLAS collection and the shape of the tiles. The recommended position of nails for different series of Shinglas is shown in fig. 12.

    Important: the flexible tiles of the JAZZ and COUNTRY series are mounted with an overlap, therefore, at the junction, two adjacent sheets are fixed with one nail. To correctly determine the place of fixation, one should be guided by the assembly line, which is present on the outer surface of the tiles of these series (this line is applied during the manufacture of the roofing material).

    For fastening roofing sheets of the CONTINENT series, only long nails with a wide head (4.5 centimeters long) are suitable.

    Installation of the starting strip

    The material for the starting strip is selected depending on the SHINGLAS series. In some collections, ridge-cornice tiles are used for this purpose, while in others, standard ordinary tiles are used.

    Ridge and cornice universal tiles do not require cutting and are laid with the adhesive side down over the waterproofing lining material, indented from the cornice strip fold by 10-20 millimeters. The longer the roof slope and the greater the angle of its inclination, the wider this indent should be.

    Fig.13

    The starting strip for Shinglas with the shape of cutting Accord, Beaver Tail, Sonata or Trio is made from ordinary tiled sheets, from which the petals are cut. From the underside, the entire surface of the strip, with the exception of the adhesive layer, is covered with a layer of mastic, after which it is glued in exactly the same way as described above.

    Under a soft roof with a Continent and Dragon's Tooth thread, the starting strip is made from shingles of an ordinary tile without cutting off the petals.

    Laying the first and next rows of Shinglas

    It is recommended to lay the sheets of soft roofing starting from the middle of the slope. This makes it easier to align the shingles, especially on long pitches. The first row of tiles starts from the starting strip with a gap of 10-20 millimeters between it and the lower edge of the roofing sheets.

    Laying the next rows is carried out from the bottom up diagonally.

    Features of the installation of ordinary tiles, depending on the shape of the cut, are shown in fig. 14 and 15.

    Continent

    The second row is laid from the middle of the slope with a shift in one direction or another by the width of half the petal. You can carry out installation from the center of the slope in any direction - to the right or to the left.

    The lower edge of the petals after fixing the second row of tiles with nails should coincide with the upper edge of the cutouts in the previous row.

    In the same way, with a shift of half a petal and alignment with the cutouts of the previous row, the third row of shingles and all subsequent ones are laid.

    On fig. 16 shows a variant of the installation of Shinglas shingles from the middle of the slope in strips, and in fig. 17 - in the form of a pyramid.

    Fig.16

    Fig.17

    With a downpour or slanting rain, the risk of moisture leakage along the edge of the roof increases. To avoid this, it is advisable to glue Shinglas shingles along the edge of the roof with FIXER mastic to a width of 100 millimeters.

    At the gable, the corners of the shingles that fit the end plank must be trimmed, as indicated above, in fig. 9. This is done to organize the proper flow of water from the roof.
