Wet silk wallpaper. Silk plaster: reviews. How much does silk plaster cost. Silk textured plaster

The use of decorative plaster in finishing surfaces has become a familiar way of decorating walls and ceilings. What is it, what are the features of this material, how to decorate the space with it, we will consider in the article.

Peculiarities

Decorative plaster or silk effect coating is a finishing material of thick consistency, which is used to decorate the walls and ceiling of the room. This coating is often equated with silk-based liquid wallpaper. In fact, these are two different finishing materials, which differ primarily in composition. There is no silk in decorative silk plaster, it is visually more pleasant and uniform, it does not have roughness.

A feature of this material in comparison with liquid wallpaper is the uniqueness of the texture. Externally, silk plaster looks more presentable, which is why it costs more than liquid wallpaper. It is more durable and dense in consistency, suitable for interior decoration of surfaces. Usually the composition is applied to the base at a temperature of +5 to +35 degrees. Sometimes it is called decorative pearl paint for interior work.

It also differs in that it is more difficult to apply than liquid wallpaper. At the same time, it becomes more difficult to correct damaged areas that need to be replaced. It's almost impossible to do this without being noticed. The advantage of this finish is the ability to add various sparkles to the finishing mass. The texture also differs externally: it looks whole, while liquid wallpaper, upon close examination, consists of individual granules.

Another feature of the application is the thickness of the layer. If the liquid wallpaper, which is applied in one layer, it is 4-7 mm, in this case the total thickness is up to 3 mm, while for the desired effect, the application is performed in two layers. The difference between each type of silk plaster lies in the methods of forming the second layer. For such a material, even the tool with which the pattern is formed matters. Outwardly, it may resemble cracks, overflows, crinkled textiles. Drawings look especially beautiful on such a basis, which are much more aesthetically pleasing than those drawn with liquid wallpaper.

This material provides a seamless application technology, which resembles the method of facing liquid wallpaper. Due to some of the fillers included in the composition, the surface pattern may look translucent. Silk plaster is a kind of liquid silk, which is spread on the prepared wall surfaces. This coating has a pleasant sheen and embossing, which will look different from different angles. Such material is not cheap, but its effect cannot be compared with ordinary plaster or liquid wallpaper.

Advantages and disadvantages

The finishing material is unique and has a lot of advantages:

  • Silk plaster can be used to decorate walls and ceilings in rooms of various types. It looks beautiful in the corridor, hallway, relevant in the bedroom, living room, study, children's and home library.
  • The effect of the finished surface looks better than any type of wallpaper and other finishing materials. The appearance of the finished cladding creates an elegant background for the interior.
  • This material is an environmentally friendly raw material. There are no harmful components in the composition, therefore, during operation, toxins harmful to health will not be released from the surface.
  • Among the components of decorative plaster are antimicrobial additives, thanks to which fungus or mold will not start on the walls.

  • This coating is anti-static. It is not electrified, during operation dust will not be attracted to it, thanks to which the surface will look neat.
  • Due to plasticizers, the lining will be resistant to slight deformation of the walls themselves. If a small crack can form on the base, the lining will not tear, but will stretch without disturbing the solidity of the surface.
  • Decorative silk plaster has good sound insulation performance. It will reduce the level of annoying sounds that often come from neighboring apartments.
  • This finishing material has thermal insulation properties, due to which it will become warmer in the room where the walls will be finished with this material. At the same time, the structure of the material is able to pass air.
  • Thanks to a wide range of shades, the material allows surface finishing in the form of a plain canvas or a pattern according to an individual sketch, which is formed after applying the base coat.

Such a composition usually dries within 24 hours, although some varieties can dry up to 4 days. It is sold in the form of a powder and in small plastic buckets. Consumption is approximately 150-300 g per 1 sq. m, it depends on the thickness of the applied layer and the type of tool for distributing the mass over the surface of the base.

In addition, this composition is practical and durable. With proper preparation of the base and implementation of the application technology, it will serve as an interior decoration for up to 10-15 years. However, in order to extend the durability, the coating will have to be treated with additional compounds.

In addition to this nuance, decorative silk plaster has several more disadvantages:

  • The cost of this finish is quite high; not every buyer can afford to purchase it for decorating interior walls. On average, a square meter of decoration will cost from 600 to 950 rubles.
  • The product absorbs various odors, which is especially bad if people smoke or cook indoors.
  • To give texture, you will have to apply the material to the base twice.
  • The surface for such a finish should be prepared as carefully as possible, otherwise the appearance of the cladding will not look beautiful.
  • The method of surface treatment with this composition is more painstaking than wallpapering, so one day may not be enough to complete a high-quality coating.

Attracting an outside specialist to perform this facing work will cost a large amount. This will be especially noticeable if it is planned to lay out a drawing with this material. The disadvantage of some varieties is the need for experience in performing such a finish, otherwise it will not work to achieve a silk and velvety effect.

Kinds

Silk decorative plaster according to the application effect can be of three types: wet, crinkled and smooth (liquid) silk. In addition, there are other types of screen printing.

The most interesting include:

  • under a stone;
  • with imitation of aged wood;
  • with marble chips;
  • textured Venetian;
  • rain;
  • broken stone.

The application methods of each type are different:

  • For crinkled silk, after the main layer, a thin layer of liquid silk is applied with chaotic movements in different directions. You can use a sponge. After 20 minutes, the surface is smoothed with a plastic spatula.
  • For a “wet silk” surface, after the base layer applied with a Venetian trowel, a second one is applied, after 15-20 minutes, circular motions are made with a roller in different directions, making the stains different due to the application amplitude.

  • The classical method of application resembles the previous one, however, when applying the second layer with a Venetian trowel, the surface with a small relief is slightly smoothed. Movements should be undulating and long.
  • For a structural drawing, the direction of movements, their pressure matters: the tool should not stick to the wall.
  • The “rain” pattern is applied at an angle: a special trowel is pressed against the surface, then torn off, after which the relief is slightly smoothed.

Textured silk-effect plaster allows you to make color images that differ from liquid wallpaper: such a drawing resembles wet painting. This is not a smearing of voids, but the formation of a pattern with colored paste. If you need to make a plain coating with a pattern, you can initially try to do it in a place that will later be covered by furniture.

Textures and composition

The texture of silk plaster depends on the type of application, the density of the composition and additional inclusions, as well as the consistency. In some cases it is relatively smooth, in others it is velvety. The smoothness of the surface is due to fine fibers. In addition, the composition includes dyes and metallized pigments. The effect of radiance is transmitted with the help of inclusions of mother-of-pearl microparticles in the mixture of polymer solution, due to which the coating seems to be voluminous. This material is made on the basis of binder acrylic polymers and polyester threads with the addition of quartz chips, which liquid wallpaper does not have. The main constituents are cotton or cellulose fibers. Due to plasticizers, the service life of silk plaster is increased.

Colors

The color range of shades of mother-of-pearl silk plaster is varied. There are a lot of colors in the palette, in addition to the basic white, “silver” and standard colors (milky, beige, peach, marble, gray and silver-blue, bleached-pink), it has a lot of tones through which you can decorate any interior. The neutral group includes muted gray tones with an admixture of color pigments. The line of delicate shades includes: mint, nude, olive, caramel, coffee with milk, lilac, turquoise tones. Of the saturated colors, emerald, burgundy, orange and their shades, aquamarine, terracotta, blue, sand, green, coffee, brick colors attract attention.

Application in the interior

This decorative material can be used in different ways. Silk screen printing is suitable for decorating the surface of walls, ceilings and architectural features of the room. The decoration of the entire area of \u200b\u200bthe walls is a traditional application of this finish. It looks much more interesting to emphasize a certain section of the wall with such material. For example, you can combine silk plaster to highlight the area at the head of the bed in the bedroom, pasting the rest of the planes with silk-screened wallpaper.

The alignment of the joints can be masked by molding. The use of silk plaster in the form of a panel looks especially interesting. So the finish will not hit your pocket and you can use it to create unique paintings by framing them in a baguette or ceiling plinth. If finances allow, you can arrange an accent with a transition to the ceiling. This will bring novelty to the interior and will accentuate the desired functional area.

It will be interesting to finish the protrusions with silk plaster. For example, you can decorate the wall near the guest area with it or zone the space of the bay area if there is a bay window in the room.

Application of the material is impossible without preliminary preparation of the walls. To make the coating look beautiful and presentable, it is worth taking note of a few tricks of experienced craftsmen. The cladding process includes leveling the base, treating the surface with soil and applying the composition.

Surface preparation

  • If the base was previously covered with whitewash with a non-uniform structure and grains of sand, sand them: they can cause a poor-quality coating.
  • If there are greasy stains, old paint or whitewash, remove them completely, then go over the surface with a damp cloth to remove whitewash dust.
  • Remove all bumps from the surface, cover up pits and cracks so that the plaster layer is uniform.
  • Let the dust settle for some time before applying the primer, then wipe the floor.

Primer

  • Prepare a construction roller and a flat brush: this way you will speed up the processing of the base.
  • Use a deep penetration primer in your work, taking into account the type of base (for concrete, wood, drywall), these preparations vary for each surface.
  • Take a compound with a penetrating power of up to 1 cm, it will strengthen the walls and even out their structure.
  • Finishing

    • Please note: this material is not applied in one layer, like liquid wallpaper. You won't get a silky surface like that.
    • The thickness of the first layer should not exceed 2 mm.
    • Apply the mass in small portions, but optimally quickly, aligning the thickness of the sections with each other.
    • Strokes can be done in different directions: this will give the finish an individuality (this is how prints in the form of curls and leaves are created, as well as a radial pattern).

    • To give the texture of wet silk, it is worth applying the first layer of the composition with a maximum thickness of 1 mm.
    • When finishing the surface with a second layer, you can use special textured rollers: they will help to give a seamless lining any pattern and texture (up to imitation of textile folds), which will play in the sun.
    • If you need to make a contrasting pattern on the finished canvas after drying, you should purchase a special roller with a pattern and, after dipping it into the material of the desired color, roll it over the surface from top to bottom.

    The composition is sold in the form of a finished mass and a mixture for dilution. The first variety does not need to be adjusted, except for the case if you need to add mother-of-pearl or pigment to the composition. The second category involves diluting it with water at room temperature in the proportions indicated on the package. An important nuance in the process of finishing work is the fact that in the case of an independent change in the color of the mixture, it is necessary to knead all the material at once. Otherwise, the finish may look like patches that differ in the intensity of the shade.

Silk plaster, imitating the smooth surface of a noble fabric, is extraordinary, pleasant to the touch. Pearlescent fillers provide an amazing play of light on the surface of the walls. Massive plastering under silk began to be used in the last decade of the twentieth century. The first manufacturers of such a miracle were the entrepreneurs of France, Japan and Turkey.

What is the difference between silk plaster and textile wallpaper, the advantages of the material

Rolled textile wallpaper involves applying fabrics of various structures, including silk, to a paper or non-woven base. Installation of such a coating is similar to gluing all rolled finishing materials.

Liquid wallpaper, which includes silk plaster, is a dry or moistened mass, consisting mainly of cellulose, silk threads, crushed cotton and additional structural additives, including acrylic resin binders, polyester. Such a coating is distributed over the wall in a thin uniform layer, and after drying it forms a soft surface with a fleecy structure.

Among the advantages of this material, experts note:

  • Aesthetics and the ability to create artistic variations.
  • Ease of work: plaster can be applied with minimal experience in construction work.
  • Versatility and decorativeness: various modifications will be appropriate in the living room, nursery or kitchen.
  • Maintainability - In extreme cases, the damaged area can be re-coated.
  • The heterogeneous structure will "hide" minor defects in the floors, so perfect alignment of the base is not required.
  • Due to its unconventional composition, silk plaster is considered an additional wall insulation.

In addition, the composition forms a seamless coating that does not fade over time. To work with the solution, you do not need a lot of free space, and all the ingredients of the solution are environmentally friendly and safe even for kids and allergy sufferers.

The disadvantage of such a composition is its relatively high price, which, however, is fully justified, given the listed advantages and durability in operation. Some consumers note the ability of fabric fibers to retain odors, so they do not recommend applying such a composition in rooms for a specific purpose - for example, in a smoking room.

The composition of the plaster, its scope

Silk decorative plaster is used on fairly even surfaces, the presence of small defects is acceptable: the material is plastic, so it can hide minor cracks or smooth out curvature.

Noble decoration is appropriate both in an apartment or a private house, and in official institutions. The coating will complement an elegant, strict or bold extravagant interior - its appearance depends on the components.

Silk plaster for the formation of a special structure includes quartz chips. Among the manufacturers of such finishing material, French and Italian factories are in the lead - this is a product of a more expensive segment. Goods from Turkey and products of some domestic brands have quite acceptable quality.

Each consumer can choose dry or wet type of material. Dry type will be convenient for moving, warehousing. It is preferred by those who are not sure about the timing of the start of repairs.

Wet silk decorative plaster is made by hand from liquid and dry components, which must be mixed according to the instructions. A rich color palette, special types - for example, with the addition of sparkles or crumbs - will allow any consumer to choose the right option.

Applying plaster and creating different coating effects

Before mounting the composition, any surface requires special preparation. Concrete walls are absorbent. Therefore, putty must be applied to them even if the surface remains without pronounced curvature. The joints between sheets of drywall and all recesses should also be masked.

To prevent hidden stains or stains from appearing, especially in the case of a thin layer of light plaster applied by hand, craftsmen advise painting the walls with a layer of oil, alkyd or acrylic paint immediately before finishing. It is advisable to use a primer - this will improve adhesion.

Silk plaster is kneaded in portions - one batch per wall. If a fraction of the solution remains, then it is added to the next part. Many experts suggest, when using a dry mixture, soak the composition overnight - for about 8-10 hours. The solution is stirred before use. The average consumption will be 1 kg per 5 m 2.

When using a spatula and trowel, work starts from an angle, the tool adheres at a slight slope, about 15 o. Further, it is recommended to let the plaster dry for 1-2 hours and smooth the surface. The liquid mixture is collected on a spatula in a smaller amount.

The composition of fine dispersion can be applied with your own hands using a pneumatic sprayer or spray gun. In this case, the edges - for example cashiers - are protected with self-adhesive tape. The work requires maximum accuracy, and the use of this method is recommended only for those who have skills in working with such equipment.

Wet silk plaster is an attractive textured coating that creates the effect of translucency and light pearly overflows.

This option differs from the usual silk composition in visual perception - a large number of silk fibers and particles create an attractive sheen. A varnish protective coating can be applied to the finished surface.

It is also easy to do with your own hands an additional decoration of the silk "radiance": a trowel or a brush with a hard bristle is carried over the wet layer, forming waves, avant-garde spirals, and other lines. Masters recommend making movements in one direction.

If there are metal elements under the plaster, then for better adhesion they should be covered with nitro enamel. At the outer corners, openings of any type, a perforated PVC corner is installed - such a “secret” will help to “keep” the plaster in difficult areas and increase the durability of the material.

The fine finish does not require much maintenance: the silk plaster can be vacuumed occasionally or cleaned with a soft brush designed to remove dust.

Silk plaster in the interior is an old type of material. It has been in existence for over 20 years. Today, decorative wall decoration of interiors is becoming more and more popular. It can be used on its own or in combination with other materials.

Features of silk decorative plaster

This finish is similar to silk fabric. At the same time, depending on the chosen technique used for applying the material, a different texture can be obtained. When light hits the silk coating, the patterns shimmer, a real play of colors takes place, the directions of the fibers also change, brighten, darken, it all depends on the time of day, etc.

Thanks to the components that make up the plaster, they have acquired their excellent properties, namely:

  • Cellulose, cotton fibers.
  • Silk, which gives the whole texture the iridescence characteristic of silk.
  • Polyester that contributes to the plasticity of the liquid silk structure.
  • A plasticizer that prevents mold.
  • Acrylic, which also imitates the silk coating, and also gives the mixture plasticity.

Using liquid silk, you will have a great opportunity to create the appearance of half-transparent walls, and can make the surface of a kind of wet or printed fabric, or maybe even compress the silk. If you choose the right technique for applying the material correctly, you can create three-dimensional patterns on the wall, or an imitation of a velvet surface, on which there will be amazing embroidery.

Today, silk plaster is made by many manufacturers involved in building materials in countries such as Japan, Russia, France, Turkey, Germany. In addition, you can find more than a hundred different types of this material, in a different price segment.

What are the advantages of silk plaster?

The main one is a decorative function. After all, with him the walls look more expensive, refined, unlike other finishes.

He is also able to level and smooth out small flaws on the surface of the walls. It can be chips and cracks, level differences. At the same time, it is still worth preparing the substrate before applying this type of material. After all, take any material for alignment, it costs much less than liquid silk!

In addition, the material is very easy to apply on the surface, it does not require any special skills. This is what ensures the minimum cost of finishing work with this type of material.

It is anti-static, which means that the porous surface will not clog with dirt and dust.

You can apply the material to walls made of any material, such as brick, drywall, wood or concrete. But in order for the material to be most easily applied, prime the surface in advance.

To make the finish last for a long time, cover it with varnish. In this case, you can even wash it if necessary. And besides, it will not absorb any odors, which is especially true for unpleasant ones.

Negative qualities of the material

One has only to look at the photo of silk plaster, where everything is very clear and understandable that the material gives excellent appearance to the interior! However, it also has disadvantages:

  • The cost of the material. At the same time, there are more inexpensive options that use artificial fiber.
  • Good moisture absorption property, which is why the material is not suitable for bathrooms and other rooms with a high level of humidity.
  • The ability to absorb odors, which is why the material is not suitable for kitchens and toilets.

How is silk plaster applied?

For this, there is a certain schematic, which it is desirable to adhere to:

  • The wall is pre-prepared. It is leveled with putty, or primed. Then wait for complete drying.
  • Before buying such a material, decide whether you need sparkles and other sparkling elements that come with many plasters.
  • Dilute the dry mix of plaster in water, adhering strictly to the rules specified in the product instructions.
  • If you have chosen a fine-textured decorative mixture, keep in mind that it is easiest to apply it with a pneumatic spray gun. In the case of a coarse mortar, it will be convenient to apply with a plastic trowel.
  • The material should be applied to the wall with strokes in a chaotic manner, while they should be applied close to each other, and they will also be directed in different directions from each other. The first layer should be no thicker than two millimeters. By applying the mixture in various ways, you will achieve different and very interesting effects.
  • After the first layer is applied, wait a while, then apply the second layer in millimeters.

And most importantly, master the technique of applying the material! After all, in this way, you can perfectly emphasize the peculiarity of the interior style in your home!

Silk plaster - 33 real photos in the interior

Decorative plaster is becoming more and more popular.

The simplicity of the workflow, excellent performance properties and excellent appearance make it one of the most sought-after decorative materials for wall decoration.

In this article, we will look at how silk plaster is applied with our own hands, its features and benefits.

Few people can boast of perfectly even stacks. An excellent option that allows you to hide this flaw is silk plaster.

With its help, you can decorate the surface without the need to pre-level the walls. Thus, if the walls do not become even, then this is not visually visible.

To get a neat and beautiful surface, it is important not only to adhere to the application technology. The quality of the material is of the utmost importance.

The durability, saturation of colors and other qualities of the finished wall depend on it.

Compound

  • artificial and natural fibers;
  • acrylic base;
  • Polyester;
  • Cellulose, cotton;
  • Dyes;
  • Additional components that give the material special properties.

Advantages:

The main advantage of liquid plaster is the ability to decorate even uneven walls with it.

Therefore, it can be used if there are cracks, potholes or small drops on the surface. She completely hides these defects.

This greatly reduces the time and labor that would normally be spent on plastering and grouting walls.

Also, the following points can be attributed to the advantages of such material:

The composition includes special components that prevent the formation on its surface.

This material has an antistatic effect, so it does not attract dust.

In case of damage to a section of the wall, you can easily remove a piece and replace it with a new one. To do this, just soak it with water and remove with a spatula.

Good heat and sound insulation properties. In addition, the material perfectly eliminates the effect of echo in large rooms with high ceilings.

The material is perfect for decorating walls and ceilings. At the same time, it fits perfectly into the decor of any style and can be used to decorate the living room, children's room, bedroom and other rooms.

Ecological purity. The composition of the material includes only safe and non-toxic components. In addition, the material provides unhindered air movement.

The original color of the plaster remains for many years. At the same time, it does not lose its attractiveness and basic operational properties.

Simple application technology. Applying silk plaster with your own hands is extremely simple and even a non-professional can handle it.

Disadvantages:

Despite all the undeniable advantages, a number of disadvantages that the mixture has should be taken into account. First of all, it is necessary to mention the low wear resistance.

It is because of this feature of the material that it is not recommended to use it in the hallway.

In addition, silk plaster strongly absorbs odors, which is why its use in the kitchen is undesirable. Another significant disadvantage is the drawing of dirt.

Therefore, if a light mixture is used, dark spots may appear on it after a while. However, this drawback can be dealt with - it is enough to first paint over the surface with light paint.

And the last drawback is low moisture resistance. Under the influence of moisture, the plaster soaks and falls off in pieces.

This problem can be solved by covering the surface with a layer of primer and varnish.

Preparing the mixture

The most important step in decorating walls with silk plaster is the preparation of a high-quality mortar.

The preparation process is long and must be done 12 hours before use. For example, prepare the mixture in the evening, and finish it in the morning and start applying.

Pour water into the container and pour out the entire contents of the package. Mix the mixture thoroughly and pour into a bag. This will help prevent moisture from evaporating.

In the morning, it is enough to pour the contents of the package into a convenient container, mix again and get to work.

Mixing must be done by hand.

Application technology

Do-it-yourself silk plaster is applied without much difficulty. The composition should be applied to a previously cleaned and primed surface with a trowel.

Apply evenly over the entire surface. The advantage of the material is the ability to remove an uneven piece at any time and replace it with a new one.

Therefore, even a person without special skills can use the material.

If a light mixture is used, the walls should be pre-painted. For this, paint or nitro paint is used. This will prevent stains from appearing on the surface.

Therefore, the walls will be beautiful and neat for many years.

The application technology itself may differ. For a fine-grained mixture, it is permissible to use a special spray gun and compressor.

The coarse-grained mixture is applied with a spatula. The larger the granule size, the more difficult it is to control the applied layer.

So it will take some practice. However, if in some place it turned out not very smoothly, you can always remove this area and apply again.

Conclusion

Silk plaster is a modern decorative material that can be used to cover ceilings and walls.

In addition, it can be applied not only in a continuous layer. Modern designers prefer to combine color and texture solutions.

At the same time, this can be done not only in compliance with drawings and ornaments, but also abstractly. This allows you to create realistic, voluminous and very beautiful paintings on any surface.

  1. The surface is carefully primed, the smallest irregularities are eliminated - it is better to use an acrylic-based primer, the wall should be evenly coated;
  2. The mixture is being prepared - glitter is added to the water, the plaster itself is mixed, everything is mixed. The ratio is indicated on the packaging with the material;
  3. The first layer is applied with a thickness of not more than 2 mm with a trowel made of plastic. Smears are carried out with various movements, focusing on the desired effect;
  4. Apply a second layer using textured rollers. The result is a wall that looks like it's upholstered in natural silk fabric.

Textured wet silk plaster will transform the interior only if it is applied correctly, so it is better to involve a painter with artistic abilities and rich experience in working with decorative materials for work.

  • in fine restaurants.

Given that the material perfectly absorbs odors and moisture, its use in the kitchen and bathroom is not recommended. However, the owners, who are not indifferent to liquid silk, install powerful hoods, solving this problem, and also use special finishing compounds that protect against moisture. In fact, the material is universal, suitable for most rooms.
