DIY crafts from fiberboard. Do-it-yourself box made of fiberboard. The main conditions for a quality design

It is quite possible to build an arch with your own hands, the main thing is to carefully familiarize yourself with all the nuances of this process The arch is an original and stylish piece of furniture that adds zest to any room. This element is often used in the design of door or window openings, gazebos, and sometimes even as a garden decoration. In order to make an arched structure, you can call specialists, or you can try to create it yourself. It's not hard. It is enough to have some skills in construction and all the necessary tools.

Stylish do-it-yourself interior arches: their shapes and materials for manufacturing

In everyday life, an arch is a certain element in the form of a ceiling of a certain shape, framing an opening in the wall. Such designs are quite popular and are often used in the design of modern premises.

The advantages of using arches include:

  • The appearance of a certain zest in the interior;
  • The ability to visually enlarge the room;
  • A chance to "hide" the flaws or angularities of the room.

If you decide to build an arch indoors, you should decide on its shape.

A stylish arch will not only decorate the interior, but will also become the main highlight in the design of the room.

There are such main types of arched openings:

  1. Classic - is an arc or semicircle. This type of design is considered universal, as it fits almost any interior.
  2. Ellipse - ideal for a low opening. Looks original and stylish.
  3. The portal is one of the simplest designs. It can be inserted into a regular opening with right angles, without the need for a drastic change in the size or shape of the door.
  4. Romance - has a rectangular shape with slightly rounded corners.
  5. Modern - made with a fairly large bend radius, and in shape resembles an oval or circle.
  6. A trapezoid is a simple design, made with sewn corners. Very easy to perform.
  7. A transom is a continuation of the door. It can take any form of a doorway or be an independent element.

When choosing the color and shape of the structure, you should consider the overall design of the room so that everything fits together. And the main materials for the manufacture of the arch are drywall, various types of wood, plastic or fiberboard.

Instructions for making a wooden arch yourself

For the manufacture of a wooden arch, the following materials are usually used: oak, mahogany, pine, larch, linden and beech. The most common is pine, which is distinguished by its resistance to decay and elasticity, but at the same time it is quite cheap.

Necessary tools and materials for manufacturing:

  • Building level;
  • Electric jigsaw or wood saw;
  • Perforator;
  • Pencil, compasses and tape measure;
  • Screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • Sheets of plywood or fiberboard for the template;
  • Wooden planks;
  • Lacquer for processing the finished product.

Before proceeding with the manufacture of the arch, you must first prepare all the materials and tools for work

It all starts with making a template. Since the arch has a curvilinear shape, it is made up of individual elements.

It should be borne in mind that the smaller the size of the assembled parts, the more smooth the arc and the more seams.

If the assembled template looks perfect, all the elements can be glued and carefully fixed. To make the inner surface look like a circle, it is necessary to cut off all unnecessary and protruding parts. This is done, as a rule, with the help of a milling cutter or other power tool.

Thus, as many wooden arcs are made as necessary. The prepared template allows you to create them quickly and easily. Subsequently, all parts are glued together.

Arch racks are made from boards of the required dimensions, which are then connected to the arched arc using the tongue and groove method. You can additionally strengthen the connecting points with metal or wooden studs.

The inner surface of the arch must be carefully sanded, and all inconsistencies must be sanded out. Thus, it will seem that the entire opening is made of one solid tree.

The work ends with tinting and varnishing the finished product. If desired, you can add platbands, imitations of various stones, make a backlight.

Options for making an arch from fiberboard with your own hands

Fiberboard is a kind of shredded wood, the remains of shavings. Now this material is quite popular and is widely used in the decoration of various premises.

Quite simply, easily and quickly with your own hands you can build an arch from fiberboard

What does the process of creating an arch from fiberboard look like:

  1. First, the doorway is prepared for repair. The old door is removed along with the box, and then the surface is cleaned of dirt and dust.
  2. It is best to fasten fiberboard to a wooden crate. You can make it from bars of a suitable size, in which you need to drill holes for the fasteners. Then the same holes are made in the doorway using a drill or puncher. Dowels are inserted into the holes, after which the timber is fixed.
  3. Next, fiberboard sheets are attached to the resulting frame. The procedure is similar: first, all dimensions are taken, and then pieces of material of the desired shape are cut out from them.
  4. Further, holes are made in the fiberboard, coinciding with the location of the bars. The cut parts are applied to the crate and fastened with self-tapping screws.
  5. At the end of the self-tapping caps, it is necessary to close with special plugs so that they are not visible, and cover the ends of the material with platbands.

This is how an arch is made of fiberboard sheets. The main thing is to monitor the careful and high-quality joining of the upper (arc-shaped) and lower parts of the structure so that the product has a solid and finished look.

Interior portals look very stylish and original, while they are quite easy to install. Basically, they are placed between common rooms and visually make the room wider.

Portals in the doorway are installed, as a rule, in order to make the room wider

What needs to be done to install such a portal:

  1. To begin with, the sides of the future structure must be given an even appearance. To do this, you can use plaster or corners. Moreover, it is necessary to set the latter as accurately as possible, because the slightest distortion will be noticeable.
  2. The gap between the corners must be filled with mortar and wait for it to dry. If the width of the wall is less than the width of the extension, then it will have to be cut, and cover one of the sides of the opening with a casing.
  3. Next, the extension is applied to the opening and is drilled with a drill at a distance of 5-10 cm from the top. First, it is fixed at the top, then at the bottom and at the end - in the center. The gap between the fasteners can be from 10 to 60 cm. Thus, all extensions are attached.

By the way, the door portal can be assembled separately and then inserted into the opening, but it turns out to be more difficult due to the fact that the slightest mistake during installation can nullify all efforts.

Original do-it-yourself arch (video)

Do-it-yourself interior arches are easy, but responsible. The manufacture of this decor element should be undertaken by a person who is familiar with some building basics and is not afraid to pick up a puncher. An arch or portal is always beautiful, stylish and original, and a hand-made design gives the room its own unique charm.

What to do when you want to ennoble a living space, make, for example, an original beautiful arch, but the budget does not provide for spending on expensive finishing materials? In this case, cheaper, but no less high-quality design methods will come to the rescue. We will consider how chipboard and fiberboard materials can be used for these purposes, as well as how to build a structure with our own hands. To do this, we give examples with a photo.

A little about arches

Since ancient times, arches have been used to ennoble not only interiors, but also the facades of buildings. They allow you to achieve a special impression of the building. At the same time, interior arches perform an important function inside the room: they separate the rooms, but leave the room intact.

Today, a variety of materials are used for this. Therefore, you can get an arch of different shapes, sizes, colors, structures, and so on. At the same time, they can be decorated in an original way. For example, to think over and implement neat shelves on which you can install vases, framed photographs, souvenirs and other accessories that complement the interior design.

Kinds

We can distinguish the following main types of forms that are used when creating a structure:

  • classic - the usual radius of the arc;
  • romance - a rectangular shape with rounded corners;
  • portal - a rectangular shape, akin to an ordinary door frame;
  • modern - truncated arc radius;
  • ellipse and others - the construction of the appropriate shape;

About chipboard and fiberboard

Now let's pay attention directly to the materials we are considering.

  • Chipboard - chipboard. This is the finished material for the arches. If the structure will be installed at the border, for example, with a kitchen, then for these purposes, chipboard with moisture-resistant characteristics should be used. The material allows you to choose the most optimal color and structure of the surface.
  • Fiberboard - fibreboard. There are several brands and types of this material. The traditional stove does not look very attractive, so it will have to be decorated. It can be wallpaper, the material can be puttied and painted.

Few people know, but the now famous MDF is nothing more than medium density fibreboard. This is a more expensive solution, but it does not require additional manipulations to give the desired decorative effect.

How to create an arch structure

You need to start by preparing the tools.

Instruments

  • a hacksaw for wood, and preferably a jigsaw;
  • self-tapping screws and screws with dowels;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill - can also replace a screwdriver;
  • perforator or impact drill;
  • grinder.

Training

If the tools are prepared, you can begin to dismantle the old door along with the box. First, you can remove the door itself, then - trim and box. Then you need to take care that the surface is not dirty and dusty.

Process description

It is better to fix sheets of fiberboard or chipboard on a crate made of wooden bars. To do this, you need to take measurements, according to which you need to cut off the required number and the desired length of the bars.

We drill holes in them, taking into account the diameter, in order to then fix them with dowels and screws. Next, we make marks where you need to drill holes in the opening. We do this with an impact drill or puncher. We select for this drill the desired diameter. We insert the dowels into the holes, apply the beam and fix it, twisting the screws one by one.

When such a frame is built, you can fix the sheets of chipboard or fiberboard. It is necessary to take measurements again, according to which we alternately cut and fix pieces of material. It is necessary to calculate and make holes in the material so that they coincide with the location of the bars. Then we apply the sheets to the crate and fix them with self-tapping screws, screwing them into the holes using a screwdriver or drill at low speeds.

When all the elements are installed, it remains to close the caps of the screws with decorative plugs. The ends of the sheets of chipboard or fiberboard must be closed with platbands.

In this way, you can easily create a portal format arch. Here it is important to pay due attention to the joining of vertical elements and horizontal, so that a seamless connection without gaps is obtained.

A profitable solution is to use fiberboard and chipboard for finishing the structure

If you want to save money, but at the same time create an original design of the doorway, you can use chipboard or fiberboard for this. The properties of these materials are sufficient to be used for these purposes. As a result, we get a delightful interior with a non-standard solution - the presence of an interior arch.

If the width of the element allows, lighting devices can be introduced into it (wiring is laid immediately after the frame is installed, and holes for lamps are cut in the sheets), which will create original lighting. The effect of such an arch will be simply amazing.

How nice it is to stroll through your own garden, enjoying the enchanting nature and amazing fresh air. Thinking over the design of a suburban area, each owner tries to make it special by adding color and creating a positive mood. Garden figurines made of plywood can successfully complement plant compositions and transform the site in an amazing way, making it a nice and cozy corner, conducive to a pleasant stay. Anyone can make such funny plywood figurines. To create such an ornament, it is not at all necessary to have the skills of an artist, it is enough just to show imagination and make a minimum of effort.

Such figures are designed to accentuate certain places on the site, making them more elegant and attractive. Due to the natural naturalness, decorations made of wood and plywood most harmoniously fit into landscape design.

Figures cut out of plywood on garden plots look extraordinary

From plywood, you can make many interesting functional decorations for a summer residence. It can be:

  • Funny figurines;
  • Containers for flowers;
  • Bird feeders;
  • Decorative fences.

There are a lot of options for plywood figurines, and each of them is distinguished by originality and expressiveness.

Miniature toy houses, animal figurines, whimsical fairy-tale sculptures and cartoon characters adorn many suburban areas today.

Plywood is one of the lightest and most convenient materials for creating crafts. It is so easy to work with that the figures from it are obtained quite quickly, and most importantly, it is interesting.

Plywood is a sheet of wood veneer, fastened together in several layers with glue or a synthetic compound. The strength and thickness of the material directly depends on the number of these layers. The thickness range of plywood sheets ranges from 3 to 30 mm. The material can have a completely different texture, which can affect the color and structure of the finished craft. For example: thanks to the beautiful structure and warm shades, birch plywood looks very aesthetically plywood, while coniferous plywood is more suitable for painting.

To create garden decorations, plywood sheets are perfect, the material for the manufacture of which was: poplar, alder, aspen, pine, birch, spruce

The main advantages of plywood:

  • Environmental friendliness;
  • Strength and durability;
  • Waterproof;
  • Good flexibility;
  • Compatibility with other materials;
  • Ease of processing.

But since plywood is still a tree, which by its nature is subject to environmental influences, a number of points should be taken into account when choosing a material:

  • moisture resistance. For the design of outdoor spaces and decorating the backyard, you can use plywood sheets labeled FKM and FSF. In their manufacture, melamine and phenolic resins are used, which have a moisture-repellent effect.
  • Sanded finish. On sale you can find sheets polished on one side (SH1), processed on both sides (SH2) and not polished at all (NSh). This moment is very important only in the case when you do not have time for additional processing.

Oil and acrylic paints are ideal for creating expressive and colorful garden decorations. They perfectly lay down on a wooden surface, creating saturated color combinations. Paints are resistant to UV rays, retaining their attractiveness for several years.

When choosing materials for making decorations, it is important not only to correctly pay attention to the quality characteristics of plywood. The moment of choosing paints for decoration is also important, which will retain color saturation for several seasons.

We create figurines with our own hands

Most often, dachas are decorated with flat figures cut from moisture-resistant plywood sheets. To create an original decoration, we need:

  • Moisture resistant plywood 2 cm thick;
  • Stencil;
  • Jigsaw;
  • Simple pencil;
  • Fine-grained sandpaper;
  • Screwdriver and screws;
  • Acrylic paints, brushes and varnish.

If you plan to install the figure without leaning it on any support in the garden, you must also provide for the manufacture of pegs for its base. Their size depends on the dimensions of the figure itself. But, in any case, count on the fact that the pegs should go deep into the ground by at least 50 cm.

We invite you to remember the forgotten type of creativity - sawing with a jigsaw, making an unusual decoration for the garden with your own hands

You can decorate any corner of the garden with a plywood figurine by hanging it on a rope, fixing it to a support with nails and placing it on stands

A stencil for making a figure can be made independently. To do this, you need to draw the drawing you like on a piece of paper, drawing it up in the form of a drawing or silhouette, and then simply cut it out.

Master class # 1 - a curious snail

This cute plywood figurine is so easy to make that anyone can make it. Little helpers will gladly respond to the offer of adults to participate in an exciting process.

The charming snail will surely appeal not only to little fidgets, but to adult guests of the site, becoming an elegant decoration for the playground and a favorite character in exciting games

On a sheet of paper we make a sketch of the future figure, the image of which is subsequently transferred to the base of plywood

If you are confident in your abilities, you can do without a paper template by drawing a snail directly on a sheet of plywood. For safety reasons, you will have to do it yourself for cutting out a figure with a jigsaw. But drawing the contours and decorating the snail can be safely entrusted to impatient little helpers.

With the help of a felt-tip pen or a burner, we draw the contours of the snail so that even after coating with paint they remain bright and expressive

We paint the blank with acrylic paints, choosing spectacular contrasting combinations. To get rich colors, acrylic paints are best applied in 2 layers.

The snail is ready. Let the paints dry a little, and you can safely plant a cute character in any place you like in the garden.

Material on how to make garden figures for a summer residence with your own hands will also be useful:

Master class # 2 - charming Scarecrow

Having allocated only a couple of hours of free time to make the Scarecrow, you can make a funny figurine with your own hands, which will bring a touch of soulfulness and warmth to the site.

Here is such an incredibly cute and charming fairy tale character Scarecrow from the fairy tale "The Wizard of the Emerald City", can also settle on your site

The figurine will be made in several stages. First, we take a sheet of plywood, on which, using a stencil, we draw the outline of the future character. The finished drawing can be transferred to plywood using ordinary tracing paper.

If we make a figure that will rely on pegs, we immediately attach them. To do this, we drill paired holes in the body of the figure, the diameter of which corresponds to the size of the pegs.

Using a jigsaw, cut out the figure along the outlined contour. We carefully sand its edges with sandpaper, giving them smoothness.

We make out the figure: on the workpiece with a simple pencil we draw the elements of the character and paint them with acrylic paints

Having painted the frontal part of the workpiece, we decorate the end faces. When the paints are dry, cover the figure with varnish.

To decorate the figure, we used dried grass, which we used to decorate the scarecrow's hair, a button and a satin ribbon, from which we laid out the character's collar

Our cute fairy-tale character is ready. It remains only to stretch the wire through the holes in the hat and fix it on a tree branch or fence.

A little secret: if in the process of sawing with a jigsaw a plywood sheet begins to delaminate, it is necessary to impregnate it with a solution prepared from PVA glue and water, taken in a 1: 1 ratio. Plywood is impregnated 2-3 times, applying each subsequent layer after the previous one has completely dried.

Since such crafts are quite light, finished products should be securely fixed, partially buried in the ground, covered with sand or glued to the base.

By the same principle, you can make themed plywood structures, for example: a miniature fairy forest with bizarre trees lost in a flower garden or a pretty clearing near a pond filled with funny figures of animals. Do-it-yourself plywood structures will decorate your site, making it attractive and unique.

Do-it-yourself box made of fiberboard

There are so many things that have absolutely nowhere to put, be it jewelry or handicraft supplies. There will always be something that requires separate storage. So, for such purposes, you can independently make a fibreboard box with your own hands.

To create it, we need the following materials:

Fiberboard or thick cardboard (thickness 3 mm);
100% cotton in two or three colors;
two types of glue Moment "Crystal" and PVA;
brush;
masking tape;
whatman;
ruler;
pencil;
scissors;
stack.

Do-it-yourself box made of fiberboard.

To begin with, we will cut out blanks for a box of a certain size from fiberboard (or cardboard). The box consists of two parts: the base - the bottom, the side wall and the lid; compartment of the box.

Let's start with the compartment where everything will be stored. We put the base measuring 10x15 cm on the table and first glue the sides 15 cm long on the Moment glue. It is necessary to squeeze the two sides for a few seconds to firmly fix the wall. Next, glue the two opposite sides.

All internal and external corners must be glued with masking tape. It is important to form right angles between the walls using a stack.

In order to prevent the dark color of fiberboard from showing through the fabric, it is necessary to glue the outer walls and the outer side of the base with whatman paper. Whatman paper is cut to the size of the walls and PVA glue is applied in a very thin layer. The surface is smoothed with a stack.

We proceed to pasting with a cloth all parts of the box. We cut a strip of fabric measuring 7x39 cm. Apply glue to the side 10.6 cm long and glue it to the fabric, leaving an allowance, which we glue to the adjacent wall. Thus, we glue the remaining sides further. The wall without fabric will be back and it will not be visible. The stack will help get rid of irregularities on the walls.

We cut off the corners from all sides at an acute angle and glue the allowances on adjacent walls. We do the same at the top of the box.

Let's cut the fabric with a size of 6x17 cm. Let's fold the allowances of 1 cm on both sides. It will turn out a spine 6x15 cm in size. We glue one half of it to the wall, with allowances inside. Press well.

We glue three blanks for the base of the box to the fabric with the glued side down so that there is a distance of 0.5 cm between them. Leave allowances on all sides. We cut off the corners with an allowance of 2-3 mm, at a fairly sharp angle and glue it.

We glue the workpiece to the bottom in the center (exactly along the edge) and wall to wall (the edges must match) on the “Moment” glue. Glue the remaining half of the spine to the lid, capturing all sides.

We cut out two blanks from the drawing paper according to the size of the bottom. Glue them to the fabric, leaving allowances and cutting off the corners. In one blank, allowances must be glued.

We glue the workpiece with free allowances to the bottom. We form corners. We fix the workpiece with glued allowances on the inside of the lid.

We cut blanks from whatman paper for the inner walls of the box. First you need to attach them to the walls so that they do not bend and lie flat. The blanks must be 2 mm smaller on all sides than the wall size. On blanks 15 cm long, we leave side allowances and glue them first, and then completely glued blanks 10.6 cm long. All walls must be well fixed and smoothed.

The box is ready!

Fiberboard can be an excellent material for beginner carvers. It has the following advantages over wood.

1. Blanks take up little space

2. No oblique layers (in the plane it is homogeneous, unlike wood)

3. Does not require surface preparation for threading,

4. Availability. A large number of products (especially furniture) that are outdated and thrown away contain fiberboard parts and can be grabbed near garbage chutes,

There are a lot of tools for carvers, but the main ones are:

1. Joint knife

2. Flat chisel

3. Semicircular chisel,

4. Sharp-angled chisel

5. Clucarza. Chisel for excavating material and forming a background

6. Stamps. to create a different texture, most often near the background.

The easiest way to learn geometric carving is that one tool of a joint knife is enough for it. To speed up this type of carving, you can use an acute-angled chisel, which can cut through two sides at once.

Here is an example of geometric carving, true on wood, but I think it’s not difficult to imagine that such a box can be easily built from carved flat parts from fiberboard. or collect a shelf for books, flowers, small figurines. etc.

In addition, beginners can try their hand at making photo frames, as I did 20 years ago.
