Boiler equipment market: what's new? Overview of the Russian market of industrial gas equipment (PGO)

produce heat, pipes deliver it to the consumer - radiators. There are also pumps, gate valves, expansion tanks and other network equipment, but these three segments are fundamentally important in heating systems. If we measure these markets in money terms, then their volume in final retail prices is very similar. According to the results of 2015, each of the three segments of the heating market is within the limits of 1 billion dollars.

Anton Totmakov, Deputy Director of Litvinchuk Marketing

Overview of the market for water heating systems from Litvinchuk Marketing.

As for the dynamics of the markets, in 2015, when measured quantitatively in all three segments, it turned out to be negative. In 2015, compared to 2014, the boiler market fell by 19%, the pipe and radiator market sank by 16%. "Made in Russia" The share of Russian products is very different in all three segments.

Within the markets for radiators, pipes and boilers, there are segments with a high share of domestic products. For example, in the market of pressure pipes, the segment of polypropylene pipes for more than 50% consists of products manufactured in Russia.

In the boiler equipment segment, industrial boilers account for more than 50% of the Russian assembly. In heating radiators, the segment of convectors is the most imported.

Market trends

At the end of 2015, the market sank by 16% in quantity, and by 23% in money terms (calculated in EUR). The reason for the disproportion is the significant growth of the supereconomy segment against the backdrop of a sharp drop in the share of European radiators. At the same time, the year was marked by a significant reduction in the trade margin at all levels of the distribution system - from manufacturers to end sellers.

If we consider steel panel radiators, then last year factory prices for them decreased, although this has nothing to do with the weakening of the ruble - world steel prices have been gradually decreasing over the past three years. As for segments with high added value (for example, steel tubular and design radiators, expensive convectors), their value is much more influenced by exchange rates against the ruble than the price of metal. For most positions, rates are fixed at the time of conclusion of contracts.

The psychology of consumer behavior has changed a lot since the 2009 crisis. Now the choice of the buyer is increasingly choosing an inexpensive product, the economy segment is actively growing. At the same time, premium consumption is quite stable, and if it changes, then at a much slower pace.

The rapid growth of the segment of "lightweight" aluminum radiators is one of the proofs of this assumption. Already in 2014, the main segments of the market stopped growing and there was a negative trend; in 2015, this trend continued to develop. There are several reasons for this state of affairs.

Firstly, the general state of the Russian economy and a significant drop in the purchasing power of the population, which began at the end of 2014, affected. Even the record rates of housing commissioning did not help (81.3 million sq. m of living space in 2014 and 81.5 in 2015, against 70.5 million sq. m in 2013).

Secondly, sales in the secondary market show all signs of saturation. Sales of replacement radiators, which peaked in 2012-2013 (up to 70% of all sales), began to decline already in 2014. In 2015, there was an expected reduction in this segment. The fact is that people with high and average incomes, for the most part, have long since changed outdated and unaesthetic devices to more modern ones. And for those who received (and receive) low incomes, in 2015 there was no time to replace radiators.

According to our estimates, over the past 10 years, from 58 to 65% of all heating appliances have been replaced, that is, their fleet is very fresh. Therefore, the number of replacements should have been sharply reduced in the coming years, even without the participation of the crisis. We can say that the crisis will make this process smoother and less painful. At the same time, the fall will affect, first of all, the market of aluminum and bimetallic radiators, which were mainly used to replace old cast-iron "batteries" and convectors.

It can be predicted that in 2015-2017 the replacement market will decrease by 40-50%, and the sales market for new construction - by 20-25%. Moreover, in 2016 the market for radiators is expected to decline by 25%. At the same time, the market for panel-type appliances (90% of which go to new buildings) is unlikely to decrease by more than 10-15%, and expensive design radiators that go to elite housing will hardly suffer.

What is happening on the Russian market of heating equipment, and what is in store for it in the near future? Of course, his condition, first of all, will be determined by the general economic situation in the country, which, however, is true for any industry.

Gas heating boilers

According to the report "Analysis of the market of gas heating boilers in Russia" prepared by BusinesStat, after 2014, when the natural volume of sales of domestic heating boilers in Russia reached its maximum - 1,027 thousand units, the demand for them began to decline: in the context of the crisis of the next two years, many businesses and homeowners chose to delay the purchase. According to BusinesStat forecasts, in 2017 the decline in sales will continue - up to 735 thousand units. This will be caused by a continuing decline in household incomes, a slowdown in housing construction and the suspension of a number of projects. In 2018, BusinesStat predicts the beginning of sales growth - up to 859 thousand units in 2020.

The Russian market is dominated by gas-fired boilers, which is explained by relatively low gas prices. According to Yuri Salazkin, General Director of BDR Thermia Rus LLC (brands and De Dietrich), at the moment the leaders in sales are standard domestic atmospheric boilers with a capacity of 24 kW with a closed combustion chamber. In contrast to the EU countries, where a significant market share is occupied by condensing technologies, traditional heating technology prevails in Russia. Although these technologies are present in Russia, they are not as popular as in Europe, where energy efficiency is actively stimulated at the legislative level, including through the provision of subsidies.

However, the constant increase in gas tariffs is causing the Russian market to move towards more energy efficient heating equipment. Thus, the company launches a new brand of condensing boilers in the Russian market - ELCO. Consumers will first see the Thision L Eco model, which the manufacturer positions as “the pinnacle of engineering”, and during 2017 there will also be a range of improved floor standing boilers R600 and R3400 (left). These boilers, designed for use in systems of independent heating and direct heating of hot water, are characterized by low weight and compactness, low noise and emissions.

Also among the latest innovations in the gas boiler segment is the new Ariston Alteas X line with the Ariston Net intelligent remote control system. With its help, you can control the boiler and monitor its status via the Internet from any smartphone or PC, which can significantly reduce heating costs. Imagine: when you go on vacation, you lower the temperature in the apartment to a minimum, and a few hours before your return, you set a comfortable mode directly from the airport. The application allows you to independently set the temperature of different zones and automatically maintain it, taking into account weather conditions.

Alternative to gas

In places where there is no main natural gas, electric and solid fuel boilers are relevant. One of the interesting innovations in this segment is the unique Gilles waste boiler from the company. It is designed for industrial sites and farms where there is production waste that can be usefully disposed of - sawdust, sunflower seed husks, grains, wet wood chips, etc. There has not been such equipment on the Russian market so far.

Perhaps other progressive technologies will come to the Russian market. Hartmut Wesenberg, CEO of LENNOX, one of the world's leading manufacturers of heating equipment, in an interview with Expert magazine said that his company proposes to consider the possibility of using air heating systems in Russia, in particular in Siberia. These technologies, which have already become widespread in the world, but so far are almost not used in our country, have a number of advantages over traditional water (boiler) heating: safety associated with the absence of a liquid heat carrier, high heating rate of the room and efficiency - the cost of its operation for 20-30% lower and almost twice as efficient as traditional systems. Well, and, importantly, these systems are affordable.

Heating radiators

The most notable trend of the past year is a significant decrease in imports of aluminum and bimetallic heating radiators to Russia. This is due to three main factors:

The weakening of the ruble;

Strengthening control by the Federal Customs Service, which practically stopped the import of low-quality heating appliances (mainly from China);

Active activity of the Association of manufacturers of heating radiators "APRO", which is fighting for the introduction of mandatory certification of heating devices.

These three factors had a positive impact on the development of the Russian production of heating radiators. According to Sergei Shatirov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Economic Policy, according to preliminary data, the share of Russian products on the market increased from 22-24% in 2015 to 34% in 2016. Obviously, the trend of increasing the share of Russian manufacturers in the sector of heating radiators will continue in 2017 - there are all prerequisites for this. Mikhail Timoshenko, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TPH "Rusclimat", made the following forecast for 2017: "Judging by the announced new projects, the potential of Russian manufacturers of aluminum and bimetallic radiators is 20-25 million sections in terms of production and 45-50% in terms of the share in domestic consumption ".

Investment projects of Western European companies will also contribute to this. Thus, the Italian representative of the International Association of Manufacturers of Aluminum Radiators AIRAL announced the start of construction of new production facilities in Russia, despite European sanctions against Russia.

During the parliamentary hearings of the Economic Policy Committee on import substitution in the heating systems industry, held in the Federation Council in early December 2016, a proposal was put forward to provide domestic manufacturers of heating appliances with a 15 percent price advantage when participating in state and municipal purchases. This, of course, will also contribute to an increase in the share of domestic manufacturers in the Russian heating equipment market.

Methodology. Customs declarations serve as the main source of information on the volume of equipment imported to the Russian market. In this case, a variant of the base with reverse sheets is used. If someone believes that equipment is still being imported to Russia, like “crumpled tomatoes”, then this is not entirely true. More precisely, not at all. For most brands, the maximum that is misrepresented is the invoice (statistical) value, from which customs duties and VAT are paid. The vast majority of declarations contain the exact designation of imported models and their number. The proportion of declarations in which data on models are indicated incorrectly (this can often be determined by the discrepancy between the real weight and the weight of the specified models) does not exceed 5-7%. On a market scale, a value comparable to a statistical error.

Information on Russian plants is drawn from the data of the State Statistics Committee and again checked by customs, since almost all domestic plants use imported components to one degree or another. Exports are also being studied, which is important when determining the domestic market (many foreign agencies “confuse” the volume of production in Russia and the sales of domestic factories on the Russian market).

In preparing the above reports, declarations for 2004-2009 were studied and analyzed.

At the second stage of the study, data on market leaders are necessarily checked during personal communication with representative offices of manufacturers and leading distributors. In that order, and not otherwise.

Why are such reports needed? Unlike the vast majority of marketing reports, this is not water with a small number of numbers, but clearly structured data, provided with the necessary minimum of comments.

First, they allow you to see the breakdown by model in each segment of interest. When buying reports, you can get an Excel file that contains data on sales volumes of specific models (all main characteristics are indicated) for all major brands. Having this file and using the system of "filters", it is possible to analyze the situation in any very narrow market segment (of interest to a particular company) within a few minutes. For example, select only condensing boilers and compare sales results for specific models depending on the price.

Secondly, you can segment the market pointwise and estimate the share of your company not “on average for the hospital”, but by individual positions. Often, in some narrow segments, the situation turns out to be quite satisfactory, while in others it gives cause for reflection.

Thirdly, Litvinchuk Marketing reports provide an opportunity with 100% certainty not to miss the emergence of new players on the market, including various OEMs. Estimate real sales volumes by models and series that directly compete with your product. Understand which factory a competitor orders equipment from, track how he changes factories (especially important for the water heater market).

Fourthly, by purchasing Litvinchuk Marketing reports, you do not just pay money for a "stack of sheets of paper". The purchase of reports gives the right to consult on the subject of the purchased report during the year, until the release of an updated report on this subject. For example, to request data on how certain competitors customs the goods (codes, declared price, customs terminal). Reports contain only the most necessary information (otherwise they will turn into unreadable "talmuds"), everything else can be transferred upon request from the customer.

What is the difference between these reports and the reports of BRG and other Western agencies?

First, they are an ORDER fuller. This can be easily seen by the number of stamps presented in the reports. ALL significant brands appear in the reports of "Litvinchuk Marketing", in the western reports the main European manufacturers and some domestic ones. Many leading players (including those from the top ten) are ignored. The periodic loss of a number of players in Western reports affects not only the capacity, but also the dynamics of the market. A mistake in dynamics is a mistake in the strategy of behavior in the market.

Secondly, Western reports present data from producers obtained from the producers themselves. This means that the numbers are voiced by specific people. And these people can make mistakes (often not on purpose). For example, to name not the volume sold to Russia, but the volume sold to a Russian distributor (who may still work in Ukraine and Kazakhstan) or not the real sales volumes, but the goals set. As practice shows, for many players, sales volumes are simply approximated based on the expected market dynamics or the dynamics of other players. In the reports of Litvinchuk Marketing, the figures are supported by customs declarations, that is, documented. There is an Excel file that can be reviewed to verify the accuracy of the information provided.

Thirdly, the reports of Litvinchuk Marketing contain very detailed breakdowns of power (boilers, instantaneous water heaters), capacity (storage water heaters), material of the boiler heat exchanger (water heater tank), availability of a DHW circuit, etc., allowing a detailed assessment market structure and see the shares of specific brands in individual market segments.

Fourth, model-by-model analysis makes it possible to adequately compare turnovers for different brands. It is dangerous to take turns from the words of market players, since figures are often quoted at incomparable prices (dealer, factory, retail), often they are not cleared of related equipment (pumps, expansion tanks, automation), etc. It is also possible to estimate the shares of brands in terms of capacity, which is especially important for boilers.

Fifth, the purchase of Litvinchuk Marketing reports gives the right to receive additional information on the subject of the purchased report until the report is updated (in a year). In particular, you can get up-to-date information about the current state of the market.

Description

Demand for gas heating boilers in Russia in 2007-2011 increased and amounted to 852 thousand units in 2011. A decrease in demand by 32% was recorded only in 2009, due to the crisis situation in the country's economy. During the economic crisis, most of the major construction projects were suspended, part of which was the installation of gas boiler equipment at the facilities. Nevertheless, experts recognize the market for gas heating equipment in Russia as quite promising. According to BusinesStat forecasts, in 2012-2016 the demand for gas heating boilers will grow and in 2016 it will reach 1099 thousand units.

The structure of demand for gas heating boilers is dominated by sales in the domestic market. The volume of domestic sales of gas heating boilers from 2007 to 2011 increased and amounted to 827 thousand units in 2011. A decrease in sales of gas heating boilers was observed only during the economic crisis in 2009 by 33% compared to 2008.

The volume of export deliveries of gas heating boilers from Russia is significantly inferior to the volume of import deliveries to the country. However, in 2007-2011, exports grew and in 2011 reached 24.1 thousand units. Kazakhstan became the main export destination for boilers from Russia.

The supply of gas heating boilers in 2007-2011 also increased and in 2011 amounted to 1034 units. In a five-year period, the dynamics of supply repeated the dynamics of demand: a reduction in supply was noted in 2009 by 27%.

The production of gas heating boilers in Russia in 2007-2011 decreased and in 2011 amounted to 209 thousand units. The indicator showed negative dynamics until 2010 inclusive. Production growth was recorded only in 2011 by 25%.

The maximum contribution to the supply structure of gas heating boilers is made by imports. The volume of imports into the country from 2007 to 2011 increased by 45%. The main importers were Italy and Germany.

The opposite trend is observed in, the popularity of which by this winter has decreased by more than 3 times compared to 2014-2015. By the way, it was electric fireplaces that were the leaders in demand for the winter of 2013-2014! Water heaters have similar dynamics: a slight rise in 2014-2015, and then a protracted decline.

It should be noted that this winter the popularity of energy-efficient solutions has grown, among which we have included the already mentioned Heat Accumulators, indirect heating and Electric from the Top 30 of our catalog.

Firstly, 13 out of 15 "top" cities have increased their interest in heating technology. Decrease was shown only by St. Petersburg and Samara. It is interesting that Minsk entered the Top 15, ahead of many Russian million-plus cities. It should be noted that the number of entries in the equipment catalog from Moscow is almost twice as high as for St. Petersburg, which, in turn, is 1.5 times ahead of Krasnodar.

By the way, we did not take into account calls from the Moscow and Leningrad regions, otherwise this gap would be even more noticeable.

Still, the total number of entries in the catalog is not as indicative as the interest in certain categories of equipment by city. We decided to analyze the demand for heating boilers in different cities. To begin with, we made a summary chart of demand for the 6 most popular categories of boilers over the past two winters.
