DIY garden chair (36 photos): cut out the main elements. The manufacturing process of the backrest, legs and armrests. Homemade chair for relaxing in the country (drawings, photos) Drawing of a chair with a high back

An armchair is one of the most comfortable, cozy, and therefore popular interior items. All chairs are usually divided into 2 categories: with or without a frame. The finished product is often expensive. But for home masters, nothing is impossible. A do-it-yourself chair is a completely solvable issue. In the article, we will consider detailed master classes on the manufacture of soft products, as well as an original wooden product for a summer residence.

Upholstery types

Upholstery for upholstered furniture is one of the important points. The presentable appearance of the product largely depends on it. Before you make a chair, decide on the type of upholstery fabric. Here are the most popular options:

  • Velours. Noble fleecy fabric, reminiscent of short fur.
  • Chenille. A fleecy, durable fabric made from a blend of natural and synthetic fibres. Does not roll down, keeps a beautiful look for a long time.
  • Flock. Outwardly, matter resembles velor, but even more practical. Flock is easily cleaned of dirt, so it is recommended to use it for upholstered furniture in a nursery.
  • Jacquard. Durable dense patterned fabric, which is distinguished by increased durability. The disadvantage is that due to careless handling, puffs may appear.
  • Artificial suede. High-strength material, which is great for making your own chair. Embossed faux suede looks especially beautiful.
  • Tapestry. Solid expensive fabric made of natural fibers, with visible weaving. Threads of different shades form a pattern.

A set of necessary materials

When it comes to frame construction, the easiest option for a frame is plywood cut according to a template. The best option is birch plywood. Of the consumables - screws and nails.

You will also need a set of carpentry tools:

  • Metal ruler, compasses, protractor - for marking.
  • Vise: manual and desktop.
  • File.
  • Hacksaw.
  • Hand scissors.
  • A hammer.
  • Adjustable wrench set.
  • Soldering iron.
  • Pliers.
  • Drill.
  • Kerner.
  • Chisel.
  • Punch.

Important! If you want to make a fashionable and non-standard bean bag chair with your own hands, then the set of necessary equipment will be significantly reduced. All you need is a sewing machine and stuffing material.

Work planning

The beginning of any business is drawing up a clear plan of action. Consider the design of future furniture. It is more difficult and expensive to make frame chairs, but they look more respectable than those of frameless structures.

Success in the manufacture of a bean bag chair depends on how accurately and correctly the patterns are drawn up. This is not so much furniture production as the art of tailoring. Do not forget to calculate the budget of the event.

Important! Not bad if you have an old, but quite decent and durable chair. In this case, much is simplified, since you can restore it and get an interesting vintage thing.

Classic soft product

Such a thing as a do-it-yourself easy chair requires a long preparatory stage. From the materials you will need:

  • Plywood 20 mm thick.
  • Sandpaper.
  • Electric drill.
  • Sets of screws and thin nails.
  • Electric jigsaw.
  • Metal bands.
  • Foam rubber.
  • Glue for joinery.
  • Painter's tape.
  • Line, roulette.
  • Stain, glossy black dye.
  • Pencil.

Now you can get to work:

  1. Download the drawing of the chair you like, calculate the consumption of materials.
  2. Make cardboard templates to scale, transfer the outlines to plywood, then cut out the details with a jigsaw.
  3. Clean and sand the surface of the wooden parts. Pay special attention to the end areas, soaking them well with drying oil.
  4. Paint or stain the sides. Reinforce the end parts of the sidewalls with metal rims. Fasten the rims with screws.
  5. The next step is the wrapping of the product. Start fitting from the back of the back, using artificial leather. Next, proceed to tightening the rest of the parts of the product. Secure the fabric with wallpaper nails.

Important! It is advisable to treat the attachment points with carpentry glue. The chair will be more solid.

Bag chair

This product is also known as the pear chair. To make it you will need:

  • Coarse calico or satin fabric - 3.0 m.
  • Fabric for the manufacture of the outer cover - 3.5 m.
  • Zipper - 1.0 m.
  • Filler.
  • Pieces of contrasting fabric for decoration.

The procedure for the manufacture of this chair model is as follows:

  1. Download the bean bag chair patterns that you like the most.
  2. Make cardboard patterns to scale.
  3. Transfer the contours of the chair to the fabric. You will need to sew the inner and outer covers separately. As a result, you will get 2 bottoms (top and bottom) and 6 cloth wedges.
  4. Sew the wedges together. In the resulting bag, leave a small area unsewn. Sew the top and bottom bottom. After you have finished sewing the top cover, sew the inner cover in the same order.
  5. Cut out the decorative appliqué pieces and sew onto the outside.
  6. Insert the "zipper" into one of the wedges. In case of contamination, you can remove the outer part and wash.
  7. Fill the inner bag with synthetic filling about ⅔. Now it remains to put the inner bag in the outer one. Zip up.

The armchair is ready! As you can see, there is nothing particularly complicated here.

How to make an easy chair with your own hands for a children's room?

Making a frameless easy chair for a nursery is no more difficult than a regular bean bag chair. The difference is only in color.

Important! It is better to choose a fabric that is bright, attuning to positive and cheerfulness. Shades should not be too “flashy” and annoying.

Here is one of the options for upholstered furniture in the child's room:

  • The frame chair can be made in the form of a semicircular sandwich. For the back wall, hardboard is used, for the front - plywood.
  • Carefully glue the furniture foam rubber onto the base, on top of which the upholstery will lie.

Important! The best upholstery options are flock or eco-leather. Even if a young artist paints the upholstery with felt-tip pens or paints, you can remove the traces completely.

  • The maximum height of the baby seat must not exceed 600 mm.

Wooden chair for giving

Here is another interesting option: a do-it-yourself wooden chair. Wood is a practical, beautiful and durable material, which, moreover, is perfectly processed. In addition, wood in the self-production of home or country furniture has the following advantages:

  • The availability of a variety of lumber, their relatively low cost.
  • Naturalness, ecological cleanliness.
  • Nice smell of wood. Coniferous wood smells especially pleasant.
  • Unique wood grain.

Important! It should be taken into account that the conditions in which country furniture is, if not extreme, then close to them. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the processing of parts with an antiseptic. In this case, the furniture will serve you much longer.

Pine, spruce, ash, oak, larch or beech are best suited for home furniture production. Details that are not heavily loaded can be made from linden or alder.

So, we make a garden chair with our own hands. Choose simpler drawings to start with. When choosing a design, be guided by two “golden rules”:

  • Choose the design that is completely clear to you. Mentally work through the entire procedure. Prepare in advance the tools that are convenient for you.
  • Consider the place of use of furniture and the design of the room in which this very furniture is to be entered. For example, the best option for giving is a folding product or an antique rocking chair.

Manufacturing procedure

Consider a simple model, which consists of the following components:

  • Sidewalls - 2 pcs.
  • Tsargi - 3 pcs.
  • Cross rails - 35 pcs.

It is these 35 rails that will form the surface of the seat.

The most difficult part of the work is cutting out the side parts:

  1. First, make a pattern on cardboard, and only then, making sure that the steps are correct, transfer the outline to the material. The best option for making sidewalls is plywood with a thickness of 3 cm. Use an electric jigsaw to cut out parts.
  2. Sand the ends of the sidewalls. Using a manual router or grinder, chamfer.
  3. Now cut out 3 drawers from plywood. The length of each is 120 cm, the width is 10 cm. Sand these parts, no need to chamfer.
  4. From a 50x25 mm bar, cut 35 segments, each of which is 120 cm long. Next, as usual, is sanding and chamfering. For fastening, prepare 12 confirmations 5x120 mm and self-tapping screws for wood 4x45 mm (40 pieces).
  5. Mark the places for fastening the tsarg. There are 3 of them in total: in the foot, head and in the middle of the outer arcs of the sidewalls. Drill through 8mm holes for the sides.
  6. Pull off the side parts of the product with three sides. For holes in the end parts of the drawer, use a 5 mm drill.
  7. Now fix the pre-prepared segments of the bars to the seat using self-tapping screws.
  8. The final stage is to cover the zenoks and cracks with putty on wood. After that, sand the product, prime the surfaces and paint with varnish or acrylic paint.

As you can see, making a chair with your own hands is quite realistic. There is nothing particularly difficult in the independent manufacture of chairs of various types. Good luck to you!

The summer cottage serves not only for growing vegetables and fruits, but also for a good outdoor recreation. This is best done in a luxurious and reliable armchair made by yourself. We will talk about how to make it, what materials, tools and knowledge will be needed below in the article.

If you like to tinker with wooden crafts, it will not suit you to install standard plastic chairs on your own site. They not only do not fit into the natural atmosphere of the kingdom of plants and flowers, but also unreliable.

In addition, their design does not always contribute to a good rest. Therefore, in this case, we offer you a simple model of a wooden garden chair that will organically fit into the landscape of a suburban area. You do not need special skills, as in forging or welding metal products, although knowledge of carpentry is desirable.

Requirements for country wooden furniture

Special conditions of use require that the design meet certain parameters. Then it will last long enough in the original version.

Let's consider them in more detail:

  1. Immediately count on the fact that the chair needs to be made transportable, then in case of bad weather you can quickly hide it under. Of course, special antiseptics and paints used to protect wood will allow the structure to withstand atmospheric influences, but we advise you not to test it in such cases.
  2. Choose hardwoods for garden furniture, such as oak, beech and walnut. Although the price of such materials is higher, the quality of the construction will be excellent. Aspen, larch, cedar and pine are also little susceptible to decay, but the disadvantage of the latter is sensitivity to impact. Even a small one is enough for a dent to appear on the chair, which then will not be easy to remove.

  1. Particular attention should be paid to the protection of the material from atmospheric influences.. This is due to the fact that it can be exposed to sunlight for a long time, it often falls under heavy rain, so you need to protect it from such tests.
    Preparation for protection begins at the stage of harvesting wood for the manufacture of furniture. Fold the boards under a canopy in a pile, press it heavy on top and leave to dry, it’s very good if you could buy dry and high-quality lumber right away.
    In the process of work, the blanks must be sanded, impregnated with an antiseptic, and then with hot drying oil. At the next stage, dry them, and varnish them for outdoor use.

  1. The relief of the texture and the decorative cut of the tree will depend on the number of undeveloped branches and knots, i.e. the more, the better. Such a polished surface may resemble strolling grape snails.

Tip: when assembling a wooden chair for a summer residence, fasteners should be sunk into the material, then you will avoid puffs on clothes and scratches.

How to prepare for work

First of all, it is necessary to pre-assemble all the tools that you may need, as well as the material. In our case, all the blanks, with the exception of the insert strips, will be cut out of a cedar board, the thickness of which should be at least 20 mm.

Manufacturing process

Preliminary stage - cutting the main elements

Let's start by cutting out the details. To do this, we will prepare a detailed drawing, so it will be easier for us to continue manufacturing the chair.

Prepare the parts that will later become the rear legs and back. To do this, try to carry out all the work based on a detailed drawing with explanations, where there are appropriate tips. After consulting with it, mark and cut the desired blanks.

Cut the back legs, backs, seats and armrests from wide panels.

Get them by gluing boards that you need to match the color and texture of the wood.

Tip: pre-select the slots for the keys, positioning them so that they are invisible after the cutting is completed.

  1. Cut out the back legs using a cardboard stencil. Attach the template to the blank that will be used as the leg, and circle it with a pencil. Connect and pull together two blanks with masking tape so that you can cut both at the same time.
    Carry out cutting with a small margin. To fit parts to size, use a milling cutter or planer.

  1. Cut out the back. To do this, cut the workpiece in such a way that the glue line is exactly in the middle between the boards. Bevel the bottom end of the backrest at a 12.5° angle to match the profile of the rear legs. Round the top edge with a 9mm radius.

Having finished these works, you can start assembling the product, for this you will need to cut and fit other parts in place.

We continue to work

Below are instructions for assembling and cutting the rest of the elements.

Back and rear legs

  1. Drill holes for fasteners in advance so that the workpieces do not crack.
  2. Use screws (50 mm) and glue to fasten the rear legs to the backrest.
  3. Connect the side ends of the backrest to the legs at an angle of 12.5°.
  4. Close the gaps between the parts with insert strips by making them of the appropriate profile. The ends of the slats and the opposite ends of the legs must match, which will indicate the correct position of the back.
  5. Screw the inserts to the back with screws (l = 50 mm).

Tip: keep in mind that the strength of the seat will depend on the location of the boards that should be placed from one leg to another.

  1. Take a circular saw and cut the piece to width.
  2. Mark the sides of the seat, which are angled.
  3. File the workpiece from the sides along the outer marking line. You can not yet clean the raw ends.
  4. Select a groove on the back end of the workpiece, the bottom of which is tilted at an angle of 12.5 °. This must be done because the seat will be at an angle to the back. In this case, the joint will turn out to be dense, which is what we need.
  5. Round the front end of the seat.
  6. Screw the seat to the legs, sand its side edges, fit them flush with the rear leg plate.

Seat

front legs

  1. Cut out the front legs by beveling their top and bottom edges 6˚.
  2. Screw them to the rear using screws (l = 32 mm), reinforcing the connection with glue.
  3. Make a proleg - a jumper between the legs, so that the garden chair gets additional reliability and stability.
    You need to cut it to size:
    • attach the workpiece to the front legs and mark the fixing grooves. In this case, make the bottom of the groove at an angle of 12.5 ° to the plate;
    • select to a depth of 9 mm from the high side of the groove;
    • attach the jumper to the front ends of the legs using glue and screws (l = 32 mm).

armrests

  1. Saw out wedge-shaped supports for them, beveling their top edges by 6 °.
  2. Screw the supports to the front legs using glue and screws (l = 32 mm).
  3. Cut out the armrests as well as the back support for them.
  4. Clean the ends of the parts with sandpaper.
  5. Cut the ends of the support at an angle of 30°, the top edge at 31.5°.
  6. Press the rear support piece against the back with clamps.
  7. Replace the armrests and loosen the clamps.
  8. Level the position of the rear support element, achieving a strict horizontal armrests.
  9. Tighten the clamps and screw the rear support to the backrest.
  10. Screw the armrests to the rear support, then to the wedge supports, and then to the front legs, using glue and screws (l = 50 mm).

Close the recessed screw heads with wooden plugs and grind them flush. Take hot drying oil and saturate the wood with it, dry the product and varnish it. You will end up with a comfortable classic design with a beautiful texture that will be appreciated by your family.

Conclusion

A wooden chair for a summer cottage, made independently, will add the necessary flavor. The main thing to remember is that it is necessary to protect the structure from atmospheric influences so that it lasts for a long time. Only familiar tools and materials will be used in the work. The video in this article will help you find more information on this topic.

Furniture stores offer a wide range of different pieces of furniture. All of them have different shapes and designs, but it is much more interesting to make a product with your own hands. To make a wooden chair with your own hands, you will need the ability to use tools and the desire to work. And to facilitate the task, there are many detailed drawings and lessons on making furniture.

Model selection

Making a chair out of wood is a time-consuming task, but anyone can cope with it. Having found the best option and some free time, you can get to work. The process itself consists of the development of detailed drawings and the preparation of parts, which then will need to be combined into a single whole. All instructions have a standard algorithm of actions, in which they first prepare the parts, make holes for the fasteners, fasten the parts with self-tapping screws and glue, and at the end paint the product or varnish it.

The assembly of the chair must take place taking into account the established plan, so as not to make a single mistake.

The work of making a wooden chair begins with determining its type. After all, not every type of chair can be made by hand, some of them require either mechanized actions or professional skills. Having studied all the possible options, you need to choose the one that will be within your power. It is unreasonable to take on a complex drawing right away, because in the end nothing will work out.

Armchairs that really do it yourself:

  • Soft- here the main frame and upholstery. Properly assembled product and neat upholstery is the key to success. Such a product can be placed in any place convenient for you to create a cozy corner for relaxation.
  • folding- This is a more complex option, but more functional. The frame of the product is made in such a way that it can be expanded and folded with some pressure. This chair will be the perfect item for a country trip.
  • Kentucky- a simple version of the product, but very original in appearance. To create it, you only need bars and wire.

  • Sliding- their design is more complicated than a regular chair, but a beginner can easily handle it. A sliding product will help save space in a small room and can replace a full bed.
  • on wheels- in their design, the main thing is to install stable wheels that will be able to move both an empty chair and a chair with a person sitting in it. This is a pragmatic option for the disabled or the elderly.
  • high back- these products can be hard or soft, the main thing is that they have a comfortable high back. It is no more difficult to make it than a regular chair.
  • Rocking chair- these products are not suitable for beginners, but for experienced craftsmen this is quite a doable task. The main thing in the design of the chairs is the arched bases, due to which they will swing.

Wood as the main material

Making a wooden chair can be quite easy if you choose the right method. You can use an old armchair or stool if you cannot purchase individual parts. Even from a banquette you can make a small chair that any child will like. To create a classic chair, boards, bars, logs are usually used. A solid wood product has a number of advantages over other pieces of furniture, because wood is an environmentally friendly material that is absolutely harmless to health.

Natural wood is not a cheap material, but it is precisely this that is the key to the quality of a homemade chair. After making sure of a quality tree, you can start creating a work of art. There should be no knots or cracks on solid wood or bars. All parts must be carefully sanded, and only then proceed to assembly. A special coating will protect the material from insect attack and drying out.

To make a chair it is better to use oak, birch, ash or alder because they have a unique beauty. These materials allow the product to serve for a long time, do not creak or crack. The beauty of the product can be emphasized by high-quality textiles that will be used for its upholstery.

The main advantage of wood is its environmental friendliness. This is what distinguishes it from other materials. It is widely used in construction because it is relatively easy to obtain and costs less than many other materials.

Wood is very durable and can even compete with metal. It does not give in to plastic deformation and well transfers blows and loadings. It is easy to work with it, and therefore a chair made of wood can be made independently. The disadvantages of this material include intolerance to moisture and high temperatures. Under the influence of water, the wood swells and crumbles, so you need to first coat it with varnish.

Manufacturing workshops

Step-by-step instructions will help to minimize the time of work and save material consumption. The most popular step-by-step instructions for making chairs:

Armchair for giving

First you need to prepare the necessary tools and materials: electric saw, planer, hand mill, hacksaw, screwdriver, drill, centimeter, self-tapping screws, glue and boards. Procedure:

  • From the boards you need to cut four legs (2 pcs. 2/2.5/7 cm, 2 pcs. 2/7.6/5 cm). Then you need to make the back size 2/2.7/9 cm, two armrest supports 2/1.2/4 cm and back support 2/7.6/6 cm. You need a jumper to work. (2/5.1/5 cm) and planks (1.2/2/2 cm).
  • Based on drawings you need to prepare the main details. The most difficult thing is the manufacture of side supports. Therefore, before cutting out, you need to print a full-size template of this element or draw it yourself on a large sheet of paper.
  • To cut straight sections of parts need an electric saw and in order to cut curly elements, you need to use a jigsaw.
  • First you need make wedge-shaped supports for the armrests, and then use glue and screws to attach them to the front legs.
  • Next stage - sawing of armrests and back support.

  • To smooth out any irregularities in a part, they are cleaned with sandpaper. Then you need to cut off the ends of the support, press the back part for the support to the back and go through milling along the edge of the surfaces.
  • The assembly process of parts should begin after how all of them will be treated with an antiseptic.
  • rear legs must be installed perpendicular to the bevel of the support, and after that the side parts of the backrest and the first seat bar are connected. To fasten the details you need to make holes for the bolts.
  • Having installed the props, you need secure them with clamps. The upper part of the backrest must be fixed with screws, while aligning it with the lower transverse part. Planks need to be cut according to the markup, having drawn a radius of curvature before that.

After finishing work, you need to sand all surfaces and hide the screw heads with wooden plugs. You can process the finished wooden chair with oil impregnation.

Shell

This unusual chair can be made by hand using drawings and diagrams, which are desirable to create in a computer application and then print. This is necessary in order to obtain the exact dimensions and contours of all complex geometric details. Procedure:

  • All parts must be cut with a jigsaw. Movements should be smooth so that there are no bumps. It is advisable to work with bent plywood after the master has previously practiced on a piece of unnecessary wood.

  • It is important to cover all elements with varnish so that they look aesthetically pleasing and are not exposed to external influences. But before that, it is necessary to grind all the bumps and chips and clean the surface of dirt and dust. The varnish must be of good quality and must be applied in at least two coats.

The assembly of the chair takes place with the help of carpentry glue, which fastens all the details. In order for this process to pass without incident, it is necessary to fix the gluing points with clamps. Instead of the glue method, you can use self-tapping screws, but you need to screw them deep so that their hats are not visible.

from pallets

For the manufacture of this product, drawings and preparation of additional elements are not required. A homemade pallet chair can be made in just a couple of hours:

  • First you need to disassemble the pallets and remove old nails. They are ugly and can cause injury.
  • To give the pallets a decent look, they need to be sanded, after which all the details must be reassembled.

The armchair is a good place for both work and leisure. Before you make a chair with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with its models, since there are a large number of chairs. For some models of chairs, willow or rattan is needed, as when presented in other materials, they lose their charm. This piece of furniture can also be made of metal - forged rocking chairs look like jewelry in the interior.

Chair making tools.

The thickness of the beam does not matter much, but when buying, you need to pay attention to a single section, which simplifies work and shows the quality of the workpieces.

Ideally, all blanks should be of the same thickness and with good linearity.

If one of the parts is twisted, this will greatly affect the integrity of the product, it may warp or crack during operation.

How to make a chair - manufacturing process

The beam is sawn into the required number of transverse slats and bearing additional seat crossbars. Good and fast work allows the presence of a circular saw. The edges of the resulting bars are marked, and through holes are drilled at the same distance. The distance from these future fasteners to the edge of the bar must be at least 25 mm, otherwise the chair, made by hand, will not be strong enough. A drill stand will help you accurately maintain all the parameters for a variety of holes, on which you can set parameters such as the perpendicular of the holes, their dimensions and distance.

Before making a chair, one more safety concern is required - to process the ends and surface of the slats in order to prevent the appearance of splinters during operation.

In this case, all existing ribs are rounded with a grinder or planer. When the longitudinal slats are ready, the remnants of the beam are divided with a circular saw into squares, which will be used to separate the slats from each other in the structure.

Scheme of assembly of a garden chair.

Holes are also drilled in them, coinciding with those already on the finished bars, they need to be sanded and the ribs smoothed. Each master will determine the number of long bars and squares for himself, starting from the size of the chair and the thickness of the bar.

Dowel fasteners are inserted into the holes, a few drops of glue are added, after which each bar on both sides is connected to a pair of cubes. The blanks are aligned along the edges by attaching a rail, then left to dry, tightened with clamps. After drying, the wood is treated with stain. A rope can be threaded through the holes in the parts and the painted parts can be hung to dry. In the same way, varnishing occurs.

To make a chair with your own hands, the back and seat for the chair are cut out of plywood. They are twisted together using a pair of screws on the right and left. Additional strength can be given by dowels if holes are drilled under them and glued before use. All parts are painted in the desired color and varnished after drying. It remains only to make the final assembly of the body with the help of bushings and screw the seat. This unusually shaped bright and catchy armchair complements the interior well.

Do-it-yourself garden easy chair

Not everyone likes plastic chairs, which are currently used everywhere for decoration in the country house or in the garden of the recreation area. Garden light chairs made of wood look more appropriate on the site, and their manufacture does not take much time. Before you make a chair, you need to consider that its design should be light and comfortable, it is best to prefer a folding chair. This will allow you to quickly transfer furniture under the roof in case of rain, because even well-treated wood should not be exposed to moisture.

Scheme of connecting the legs of the chair.

Wood, in order to make a chair, you need to choose from hardwoods such as beech, walnut or oak. Pine, cedar, larch or aspen are also little susceptible to decay, but at the same time, pine is not resistant to mechanical stress, large dents remain on the surface. Boards should be chosen well dried or dried under a canopy before starting work. Materials and tools will need the following:

  • Circular Saw;
  • milling cutter;
  • hacksaw;
  • plane;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • clamps;
  • grinder;
  • roulette;
  • square;
  • pencil;
  • sandpaper;
  • screws or screws;
  • wood glue;
  • drying oil or furniture varnish;
  • stain.

Preparing and assembling parts

A garden chair will require two rear and two front legs, with the rear legs being longer. You need to cut out 2 supports for the armrests, a backrest and a jumper. For the rear pair of legs, armrests, backrest and seat, boards matched in color and texture are glued together until the desired width is obtained. To qualitatively glue the tree, grooves for the dowels are chosen at the ends. Paired parts can be sawn out at the same time by pulling two boards with clamps.

Rocking chair drawing.

Details are then adjusted to size using a milling cutter or planer. When cutting the back, the glue line, if present, should be placed in the middle of the part. The upper edge is rounded, and after that you can start assembling the garden chair, adjusting other elements as needed.

The rear legs are attached to the backrest with screws reinforced with glue. To ensure that the workpieces do not crack during assembly, the holes for the fasteners can be drilled in advance. The strength of the assembled seat will depend on the correct location of the boards on it. They should lie in the direction from one leg to another. The front legs are also screwed onto screws or self-tapping screws reinforced with glue.

Reliability and stability of the chair is given by a proleg - a jumper located between the front legs. Fasten it similarly to everything else, using glue and screws. Then the armrests and the support for them passing behind the back of the chair are attached.

The heads of all screws used for fastening should be sunk flush with the surface, and then closed with special plugs. The wood of the finished chair is impregnated with hot drying oil or stain, dried, varnished in several layers. You can opt for a special furniture varnish, but parquet or yacht varieties have the strongest coating.

Design for rocking chair

This chair can be used both in the garden and at home. By expanding the seat, it is possible to make not an armchair, but a whole bench on which several people can fit. For manufacturing you will need:

Chair seat assembly diagram.

  • electric jigsaw;
  • grinder;
  • drills for wood of different diameters;
  • screwdriver;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • plywood;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • confirmations;
  • slats.

If the rocking chair is made by hand from start to finish, it is better to use high-quality materials so as not to spoil the work.

Making a rocking chair

The sides of the chair with a rounded bottom are cut out according to the developed pattern in the first place. They should be completely identical, and there should be no protruding corners on their lower part. Then a beam for the seat and back is cut, the number and length of which must be calculated separately for each model. The surface of each bar is sanded and polished, the corners are smoothed. If you plan to use the chair on the street, the ends of the boards should be given special attention. They are varnished at least 3 times, since it is there that the wood is especially loose and needs protection from atmospheric influences. To protect street and garden furniture from destruction, the ends are impregnated several times with hot drying oil, and the fibers are flattened with a hammer.

The sidewalls are pulled together to the desired size by several drawers, drilling through the sidewalls. Then holes are drilled in the ends for fastening the bars. The bars themselves are also drilled in advance to avoid cracks during operation. It is more convenient to fasten the bars not between the sidewalls, but on top, somewhat going beyond the contour. In such a rocking chair there is more space, and it looks neater. Each screw should then be covered with an antiseptic and a plug placed on top. After that, the product is finished with waterproof types of varnishes, with drying of each layer for at least 12 hours. At least 3 layers are put, smeared with a thick layer, trying not to leave gaps. Only after this, the rocking chair can be considered finished.

In today's world, you can buy almost everything. The main thing is to make a choice among the widest range that is offered in the store. But sometimes financial problems do not allow you to buy a good product, for example, a comfortable high-quality chair. And some craftsmen simply do not want to buy a finished product and strive to do everything on their own. For such cases, there are special workshops for making chairs.

Which ones can you create yourself?

Anyone can make a chair at home, the main thing is to be able to work with tools and have imagination. Having acquired the necessary materials and finding free time, you can begin to create drawings, work plans and workpieces.

It doesn't matter which drawing is used. There is a special algorithm for making a chair: creating parts, drilling holes for fasteners, lubricating with glue and varnishing. Next comes the process of assembling the product, which takes place taking into account the plan.

Before you begin work on the manufacture of a chair, you need to determine its type. Not all chairs can be made independently, and some are completely beyond the control of a beginner.

Therefore, you need to study all the suitable options and choose the one that will definitely be within your power.

Types of chairs subject to self-production:

  • Soft consists of a frame, filler and upholstery. This view is suitable for a harmonious rest, where you can sit with an interesting book or a cup of coffee.
  • folding consists of a lightweight yet durable frame that can be folded for storage or transport. This option will become indispensable when going out into nature or during the visit of unplanned guests.
  • Kentucky- garden chair, consisting of bars and wire. This is a fairly easy-to-make look that looks great in a summer cottage.
  • Ladle- This is a sports chair with good fixation, which is achieved due to the possibility of attaching several seat belts.
  • futon- a fairly popular model, which from a comfortable chair with a slight movement of the hand turns into a mattress.

  • Sliding performs two important functions: a full bed and a comfortable seat. Ideal for a small room.
  • on wheels able to move around the room thanks to stable wheels. On such a chair, you can ride throughout the apartment, which may be necessary for the elderly or sick people.
  • high back– thanks to its design, it is comfortable to stay in such a chair for quite a long time. There are many models with a high back, among which there are soft and hard products.

  • Rocking chair- ideal for peace and solitude. Such a "cradle" will rock any person, even with sleep disorders. This type of chair is very popular among young mothers, because it is convenient to rock the baby in it and relax herself.
  • Non-folding- will create good conditions for a good rest. For the convenience of users, there are many models of non-folding chairs. Once upon a time, armchairs with ears were popular, which served as a side support for the head and at the same time were a fence.
  • Bag chair- a frameless model designed to relax a person sitting in it due to the fact that the product completely repeats the shape of his body. You can make a fluffy or leather chair that will look extraordinary. This option is the easiest for self-production, because it does not require a lot of materials and effort.

materials

The process of making a chair can be quite simple if you choose the right method and material. You can create a work of art from improvised materials, and from an old folding bed. Some craftsmen suggest creating a comfortable seat from a chest or a metal hoop.

To create a classic chair, as a rule, use more durable materials to make a reliable frame. It can be made from timber, boards, plywood, willow, vines, logs, chipboard, LSP, metal and from bars.

A soft frameless product will not require large time and financial costs. It can easily be made from fabric or foam rubber. It will look no worse than the purchased one, but will bring much more pride in the work done.

Manufacturing workshops

Nowadays, you can find different drawings for the manufacture of both frame and frameless chairs. The master only has to choose the appropriate option that will meet all his expectations. After all, the drawing of the product must be chosen not only according to the criterion of complexity, but also take into account whether it will look harmoniously in the place for which it is intended.

We present simple step-by-step instructions for making chairs. In the next video you will see a master class on how to make an unusual chair yourself.

Easy chair

To make it, you will need plywood sheets, a soldering iron, a hacksaw, a hammer, a meter, compasses, iron scissors, a drill, self-tapping screws, a screwdriver, fabric, foam rubber and glue:

  • You need to start work by cutting out cardboard templates, which will then be used to make parts from plywood. The product will need cross bars, so you need to determine in advance their slope, size and bend.
  • All wooden parts must be sanded. The side parts need to be painted, and the ends should be reinforced with metal rims.

  • Foam cushions with glue need to be fixed on the seat and back. If desired, you can glue the foam rubber on the armrests. From above, the foam rubber is additionally fixed with a stapler.
  • To fit the product, you need to make holes and fix the rims with screws. First, the back is trimmed with fabric, and only then they move to all other areas.
  • Fix all the parts together with a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. All joints and attachment points are best treated with glue.

Bag chair

To create this simple option, you will need three meters of satin, 4 meters of fabric for the cover, 1 meter of zipper, synthetic winterizer, scissors, threads, a needle and pins:

  • With the help of patterns, you need to prepare parts from the fabric. You should get a large bottom bottom, a small top and six wedges. The wedges need to be stitched and both bottoms sewn together. By the same principle, you need to sew the top cover of the product.

  • The zipper needs to be sewn into one of the wedges so that the cover is easy to remove and put on. 2/3 of the bag must be filled with filler, then put it into the outer cover and fasten it.

It is important to sew well all the details of both covers so that the seams do not come apart under the influence of the weight of a seated person.

Frameless child seat

A product for a child can be made from timber or chipboard. The front part is made of plywood, and the back part is made of hardboard. Inside the structure, all the curves of the back must be glued with pieces of cardboard. After the glue dries, all the irregularities are equal to the construction knife. Foam rubber is glued over the structure, after which it is upholstered with fabric.

A child seat is much smaller than an adult, so its dimensions should not exceed 60/25/15 cm.

Kentucky

To create a folding garden chair, you need to prepare self-tapping screws, round and rectangular slats, sandpaper, a round profile, furniture glue and fabric:

  • Work begins with cutting the rails and polishing them. Then, at a distance of 40 cm from their corners, holes are made, which are also ground.
  • In order for the back to change its position, you need to make 3 cutouts, then step back from the rails and make holes for attaching the seat.
  • Round slats are smeared with glue and inserted into the holes.

  • After assembling the frame, you need to do a pattern of fabric. Its length should be calculated taking into account the further folding of the product. Therefore, you first have to fold the structure and measure the fabric. The material should be slightly stretched so that the person sitting in the chair is stable in it.
  • The material is fastened with the help of round rails, after which its edges are cut off and fixed with small nails with large hats.

Armchair bed

Backs and seats must be made from plywood sheets:

  • All parts must be fixed with self-tapping screws, which must be fixed on top with glue.
  • All wooden surfaces are sanded with sandpaper.
  • The side backs are made of bars. They should have legs, a handrail and five racks.
  • The seat is made of three parts, each of which must have a frame made of timber.
  • The sliding mechanism works with the help of metal loops. To make it work without interruption, you need to make gaps.

  • The seats are connected with self-tapping screws to a plywood sheet with beams. All three seats must be the same size.
  • Seats are fastened with iron hinges. The right part must be bolted to the sidewalls so that it is stable in one position when the chair is moved apart.
  • The legs are also fixed with hinges so that they can be hidden when the chair has to be folded.
  • The entire product must be varnished or painted. And you can decorate the product with a foam pillow in a beautiful case, which will be made with a carriage tie. Some craftsmen upholster the chair-bed with foam rubber and fabric.

How to make something new out of the old?

To get a new comfortable chair and feel like a real designer, you can drag the old product. After spending a little time and showing imagination, you can get an updated thing.

To haul an old product, you will need good scissors, a construction stapler, upholstery fabric, chalk, foam rubber, jute cords and an electric knife:

  • First you need to change the old springs to jute harnesses. They have very good quality characteristics and increased strength. Jutes need to be sewn to the back of the frame in a checkerboard pattern using a furniture gun.
  • To make the seat soft enough, you need to prepare a foam cushion. To do this, make a fabric seat template. Using chalk, outline the edges of the seat frame and cut out the foam cushion. Then it needs to be attached to the seat with glue and paper clips.

Sometimes reworking an old chair requires replacing not only the springs, but also the back and seat. Therefore, it is important to properly upholster the product with a new fabric so that it lasts for several more years. To do this, the fabric is thrown over the product and fixed with pins. All folds and irregularities must be smoothed out, otherwise you will get an untidy and ugly chair. It is best to remove the armrests during the upholstery process. This is necessary so that all corners and attachment points are even and the fabric does not stick out.

It will take a little more effort to upholster the back of the sofa, especially if the restoration process is carried out by a beginner. Therefore, for starters, it is better to make a pattern from a soft fabric, for example, from velvet, which is able to hide all minor flaws.
