All its external, and most importantly, internal beauty lies in the fact that the brick was previously molded by hand - with a thick clay mass and exclusively by hand: in their moods, desires, worries, haste and drunkenness. But its quality is excellent. It was and still is today.
And so it will always continue. After all, even Time could not spoil anything. It only confirmed and superimposed its natural Colors from above.

To brick floors are created by Workshops from thin and durable plates of old brick of the 19th century.
To preserve the hardness of this very old material, for the strength of the brick floor in its further operation, the tile is sawn no thinner than 30 mm.
This is the size at which Paul is obtained.
Handsome and Solid.

Plates (tiles) from old bricks are thoroughly washed from dust and abrasive residues. Sorted by size and density (the condition depends on internal cracks, sometimes opened with a saw, the previous degree of firing, produced more than a hundred years ago, and the current physical condition, due to the conditions of the same hundred years of operation in old walls). Wherein , to create floors, only strong and strong Plates are selected.
After careful selection, the plates are treated with a high-penetration primer, which is guaranteed to rid them of dust, promoting adhesion and full adhesive adhesion.

Brick houses are very cozy and create a peculiar feeling of comfort inside. But brick is sometimes used not only for laying out walls, but also infloor covering quality. They combine the durability of tile and stone along with warm tones and can work in almost any home environment. The sale of bricks today is not uncommon and it can be found at many companies and manufacturers, so some summer residents even lay out brick paths on their plots. But today we will talk about brick floors as part of the house. There are positive and negative points in this, which we will discuss in this article.

Pros of brick floors

1. Design flexibility.

Bricks are modular, like tiles, so they can be arranged in different decorative patterns. You can launch any combination of bricks across the floor, creating a checkerboard, wicker basket, herringbone, or any custom motif. Brick can also be painted to achieve other color schemes.

2. Strength.

Remember the tale of the three little pigs? Brick is hard to destroy and does not rot. You don't need to paint the floor, it will withstand extreme conditions, heat and heavy traffic on its own, so it is ideal for intensive areas and outdoor terraces. Individual bricks may crack or chip off over time, but they can be replaced relatively easily.

3. Availability.

Bricks for interiors are cheaper than bricks for exteriors. But if you are not a very experienced builder, then you will have to add to the costs the amount of hiring a professional to install the surface.

4. Sustainability.

Brick is made mainly from natural materials, moreover. some bricks that are pulled from old structures and recycled can add to the environmental value of your home and your contribution to the quality of the environment.

5. Slip resistance.

The brick has a slightly rough, textured surface that gives the floor a good grip without slipping. However, if you decide to seal the floor with a smooth or waxy coating, then this property disappears.

6. Aesthetic appeal.

One of the reasons people love brick is because of its traditional look that feels warm and comfortable. Brick evokes a sense of nostalgia and a pleasant sense of history.

Cons of a brick floor

1. Hardness.

For durability, you will have to repay the comfort of walking barefoot. Brick is not bowed underfoot. If you use it in the kitchen or other space where you spend a lot of time, consider using a rug to take the pressure off your feet.

2. Unevenness.

Even the most elaborate brick floors are not 100% level. It takes time to get used to this idea. Also, some furniture may not be level and you may need to put small spacers under the legs to keep it in place.

3. Weight.

You can imagine that brick is a heavy material. As a result, it is largely impractical for a second or third floor, as it is very difficult to reinforce the floor in such a way that it can support sufficient weight.

4. Moisture damage.

While a brick on a vertical surface resists water, on a horizontal surface it interacts with it differently. Moisture can collect and penetrate the mortar, and if the brick has a porous structure, then moisture can get under the surface. You will need to seal the floors periodically to protect the brick from mold and cracks.

The brick floor of the apartment is a great replacement for the usual floors in the house if the apartment is located on the ground floor. It would seem that it sounds almost unbelievable, but once you figure it out, everything falls into place. Houses made of this building material have always been distinguished by a kind of coziness and a special atmosphere of comfort inside. In such a house it will always be warm and no frosts are terrible. But why limit yourself to walls made of this unique material, proven over the centuries? Today, brick is a fairly common material, and it is not difficult to find it in almost any building materials store or order it from a manufacturer. As a replacement for conventional building bricks, paving slabs are sometimes laid. This material is best suited for rooms on the ground floor, where tiles are usually laid, for example, for the kitchen.

Brick floors are usually placed on the first floors in kitchens or bathrooms.

This floor has a number of undeniable advantages:

  • cheapness;
  • aesthetics;
  • strength and rigidity;
  • fire resistance;
  • ease of care;
  • keeps the body well.

Each of these advantages should be considered in more detail. Brick for interior work is significantly cheaper than for exterior. A similar floor can be laid with your own hands, without involving contractors and saving money on repairs.

One of the reasons for the love for this material is the picturesqueness and a certain touch of antiquity and traditions.

always seems comfortable and warm, even despite his rudeness. Such floors will be associated with childhood and a pleasant sense of belonging to history. In addition, the variety of effects that can be obtained with a trivial brick will surprise even the most sophisticated. You can use modules of different shades and colors, getting a beautiful bright pattern, lay them in the form of a chessboard, basket or Christmas tree, traditional for parquet. In addition, the floors can be painted. Thanks to this simple material, you can get a unique design for the ground floor rooms.

The material is extremely durable and can withstand any extreme conditions. It does not wear out for a long time, several generations of your children will be able to walk on this floor, but its aesthetic properties will not change. The floors in the house do not swell with importance, the seams will not open, if you do not pursue any design goals, you can not paint the brick, it looks great in its original form. Even if one of the modules cracks, it is easy to replace it, which will not require extra expenses and efforts to decorate the first floor of the hearth.

This material is environmentally friendly and will not cause health problems, especially if you have small children. The textured surface of the material prevents slipping, which is undoubtedly important for homes where the elderly or children live.

disadvantages

Due to high humidity, the brick may crack.

However, there are disadvantages of such flooring in the house:

  • hardness;
  • unevenness;
  • significant weight;
  • moisture damage.

Since the material is quite rough, you will not be able to walk barefoot at home. This problem is especially relevant for rooms in which you spend a lot of time. However, this problem can also be avoided by simply laying down a mat to take the load off your feet.

Brickwork is laid out on a sandy substrate. A layer of bricks is surrounded by a curb for reinforcement. At the junction with the walls, a curb is not required. The basis for such a floor is crushed stone, on which sand is poured with a layer of 2-3 cm.

When laying a brick, its location also plays an important role. It is better to place it with an edge, since in this case it is less prone to cracks and damage in the event of significant mechanical stress. When the brick is located in this way, the depth of its laying increases, which prevents the penetration of moisture to the base.

Floor care

The brick floors of the first floor are quite easy to clean with a simple vacuum cleaner, removing all the dust. Chemically inactive detergents can also be used to remove stains. When cleaning, pay attention to the tightness of the seams. Lay folded dry towels at the joints with other floor coverings to absorb moisture. Scrub the floor with a coarse brush and detergent, then rinse with clean water. Leave the floor to dry.

To make it easier to care for the floor, you need to purchase a masonry sealant, which can be easily found in specialized stores.

After applying the sealant, the aesthetic value of the floor will not change, it will only acquire a slight sheen.

Sealant must be applied in 2 layers on dry brick.

It is important to make sure that every seam and module is carefully finished. The sealant must be reapplied annually to maintain water repellency.

After applying the product, a normal wet cleaning will be enough, after which your brick floor will look like new. With simple and regular maintenance, you will enjoy your floors for years to come.

The floor made of brick not only creates a very comfortable interior atmosphere in the rooms, but also brings a special coziness and nostalgia to them. At the same time, such a material also perfectly combines the incredible strength of stone or tile with specific warm shades of wood, and also harmonizes perfectly with almost all interior solutions. True, despite all this, before choosing this option, of course, it is very important to be sure with its main features.

Advantages of brick floors

Very significant strength

Brick, no doubt, is absolutely not in vain quite widely used in the construction industry for quite a few centuries. After all, it is practically not subject to destruction at all, absolutely does not rot and absolutely does not need any additional finishing. At the same time, which is very important, the brick is also completely indifferent to various atmospheric influences and is distinguished by increased rates in terms of its heat resistance.

Wide availability

Brick intended for interior decoration is traditionally produced in the form of a special type of tile. At the same time, of course, unlike ordinary bricks, such products have a much smaller thickness, and, accordingly, are cheaper.

Sustainability

Ordinary clay bricks, as you know, have a very solid resistance to all sorts of external influences. Due to this feature, it is quite possible to use such products even after their repeated use.

Excellent slip resistance

In the absence of additional finishing, the surface of such brick coatings usually turns out to be slightly rough and textured, which, of course, makes them completely non-slippery.

Cons of brick floors

Increased rigidity

The most serious disadvantage of such brick coatings, of course, is their hardness. Therefore, in the case of their use, for example, in the kitchen, where a fairly significant amount of time traditionally has to be spent standing, it is most advisable to additionally use special soft rugs that will help significantly reduce the load on the back and legs.

Presence of some irregularity

Even in the case of the highest quality performance, there will still be minor irregularities on the brick coatings. It is because of this that under the legs of furniture, in such situations, it is often necessary to put special compensating pads.

A very significant mass

Coatings made even with tiles are usually extremely heavy. Because of this feature, the use of such coatings is possible only on the first floors of buildings.

A brick in its natural state has a rather porous surface, which is why it must be “sealed” so that neither liquid nor coloring elements penetrate into its structure. In some cases, the brick is sold already treated with a special sealant finish. Otherwise, the floor covering will have to be covered independently with a sealing agent. This must be done immediately after laying, before using the coating.

Sealant can be easily found in hardware stores. Before applying it, make sure the floor is completely dry and clean so as not to "seal" the stain on the surface of the flooring. You can also try applying sealant to a small part of the brick to get an idea of how the surface will look after processing.

Sealant is usually poured into a paint pan and applied with a foam brush. The entire surface is covered with a thin layer of sealant, then left to dry completely.

You can check your work by dropping a little water on the dried surface. If on the surface of the brick it turns into a droplet, then everything is fine. If it is absorbed into the brick, then you need to dry the coating and apply another layer of sealant.

Hydrochloric acid

After installing a brick floor, many companies recommend using hydrochloric acid to clean the surface. But the acid must be thoroughly washed away, otherwise it will continue to eat away at the limestone in the cement, causing a whitish dust to be released over time.

Polishing and waxing a brick floor

Brick floor wax can be applied to brick floors to create a shiny protective layer on the surface. It can be applied after the brick has been treated with sealant.

The waxing process itself is described in detail in the manufacturer's instructions, which are printed on the product. The prep process will require stripping away any previous wax coatings with a solution of 1/4 cup ammonia and 8 cups water. The solution is applied to a clean coating, using a dry mop.

Carefully: Ammonia is highly toxic and should only be used in well ventilated areas. When the floor is clean, clear and dry, the wax can be applied.

The main advantage of a brick floor is ease of maintenance:

  • Regular cleaning: weekly maintenance of a floor such as a brick floor is very, very simple. Sweeping or vacuuming the floor on a regular basis is enough to keep the surface clean and looking decent.
  • Fire resistance: brick flooring does not burn. This means that if something hot or even burning falls on it, you don't have to worry about staining the material. This is also an important quality in the event of a large fire in space. A brick floor will help prevent the spread of fire and will also resist a fiery environment.
  • Non-fading: Unlike most flooring, brick flooring does not fade. That is why it can be laid both in the house and outside it, without fear that the sun's rays will damage it. The brick surface is strong, hard, resistant to various influences.
