First, let's get mentally prepared. After all, any thing made with love brings positive energy to your garden. Then we move on to the material. We will need a base - a flower pot of any size, shape and structure (we will pick up an idea for each).

The pot that we take as a basis needs to be properly prepared. To do this, you need to clean it from dirt and the existing design. Then you should dry it and then proceed depending on what we are going to do.

Design Ideas

In the proposed options, you do not need to purchase expensive materials in order to create a luxurious flowerpot. To do this, we will use improvised materials that everyone has in the house. Textile

One of the simple and at the same time good options is fabric. To create such a design, you need to take a clean ceramic or plastic pot, rub it with sandpaper (for better adhesion to the material). Next, apply glue to the surface in strips along the pot in a circle. Now you can start finishing. To do this, gently attach one edge of the fabric to the pot along its length, and continue wrapping the fabric, smoothing it (so that air bubbles do not accumulate under it). Triangular cuts should be made on both sides to make it easier to fix the material. All! The original pot is ready.

Lace

If you want to complicate the task, the option with lace is suitable for you. With their help, you can make a delicate and cute planter in vintage style. As in the first case, the laces are held by glue. But here you need to be more careful, as droplets of glue can peep through between the laces. It is advisable to apply it in those places where the most tissue-filled areas are expected to be. The rest of the technology is the same. It is enough to "plant" the laces on the glue in any order. You can decorate the pot completely or place lace around the edge. The choice is yours.

Sackcloth

Another option for decorating a flower pot is burlap. It is used on the same principle as the other fabric. This decor will give the garden a gentle rustic look. Complete it with buttons, decorative bugs, pebbles, flowers.

Eggshell

Using eggshells, we create an exquisite mosaic. We will need:

    ceramic or clay pot;

    brushes;

Prepare the eggshell. It must be washed and ceilinged to the desired size. Then gradually apply glue to the pot and lay out the mosaic, choosing the right parts of the shell. Using this technique, you can create a specific pattern, completely fill the space, or create a frame for a picture applied using the decoupage technique. If desired, the resulting design can be painted with waterproof paint.

Decoupage

Various materials can be used to decorate flower pots, even paper or napkins. It will be possible to transfer the selected drawing from paper to the base using the decoupage technique. This requires:

    flower pot;

    brushes;

    drawing on a napkin or paper;

It is desirable that the base be made of clay, ceramic or glass (but plastic is also suitable) in light colors.

We separate the top layer of the napkin (on which the pattern is) or take paper (it should be thin) with a pattern, lean it against the pot and gradually cover it with glue. So it will be fixed on the base and get a little wet, taking on the desired look (like a drawing on a pot). We are waiting for complete drying, and cover with varnish for complete fixing and shine.

Groats

Another interesting, inexpensive and fairly simple idea for decorating flower pots is the use of cereals. This option is also suitable for joint creativity with a child.

To do this, you need any base, PVA glue, brushes, and cereals that are bored on the shelves. It is better to take cereals with a flat edge: peas, lentils, pasta of any modification. Then fantasy comes into play. Using cereals, we have the opportunity to make an original design of the pot simply by placing them on the upper and lower circles of the product, as well as create any picture. For the latter, semolina, rice, buckwheat, millet are well suited. Ready to need can be painted in accordance with the contours.

shells

Create a nautical theme with shells. They can be brought by you from a seaside resort, then this design will also be symbolic, reminding you of a vacation. Otherwise, you can purchase them at the store.

They are attached in a manner similar to the previous ones. That is, everything is held by glue. The rest is only up to your imagination. Seashells can be used to create a great marine motif on the surface of the pot, simply by arranging them in a certain order. Another idea that will remind you of a good time: transfer a photograph to the base using the decoupage technique and make a frame out of shells. Supplement the design by placing the remaining ones over the area. If desired, they can be covered with sparkles or paint.

Ropes and threads

For the decoration of flower pots, the use of ropes and threads in different versions is well suited. Let's consider a few:

    Leg-split. A pot trimmed with this material will look attractive and restrained. It is necessary to grease the pot in a circle with glue, and tie it with threads, leaning them tightly against each other. Get the original base. It can be decorated with various decorations to your taste, or left as is.

    Threads for knitting. Yarnbombing flower pots (covered with bright knitted fabrics) will add a cheerful touch to the garden, besides, they will protect the plants from hypothermia and overheating.

Instead of a conclusion

Decorating flower pots is a fairly simple task. To create a masterpiece, you will need a base, glue and improvised materials. Of course, we do not forget about a positive attitude and wake up all our imagination.

The main task facing DIY flower pots- to make an unusual, beautiful, functional design for flower pots. Many often confuse these two concepts: a planter and a pot, because the main task of the pot is the high-quality growth of the plant, which is impossible without drainage, the correct volume and composition of the soil. And the main task of the cache-pot is to make the appearance of the pot unbanal, to decorate it so much that it turns into one of.

Make a flower pot with your own hands

Our article today will be devoted to various ways to create a spectacular decor that could be applied in an apartment, but also let's see a few. In any case, it is important to understand that make a flower pot with your own hands everyone can, and there is nothing complicated about it, no matter what technique or material you choose for yourself.

First DIY flower pots, photo which you see above, is intended solely to decorate the appearance of an ordinary pot or even a flower vase. The principle of its assembly is quite simple - several dozens of identical elements are used, which must first be assembled into a single panel, and then the container itself with the ground should be wrapped around it. As elements for assembly, you can use wooden skewers, ice cream sticks, or, as in our example, colored pencils of the same length. The sequence of the planter is as follows: it is necessary to lay out the pencils on the table in one row, aligning them so that they form a straight line along the lower border, and the total length of the entire row is the circumference of the desired planter. After that, you take a piece of rope, glue it and attach it to the pencils one third of the length, after which you glue the second piece of rope in the same way, stepping back about five centimeters from the first. When the glue dries, the pencils will be firmly attached to the ropes and will be able to curl around the pot. This design is reminiscent of the bamboo mat that is often used for serving. A satin ribbon will complete the work, which wraps around the bottom of the craft.

Unusual containers for succulents and other unpretentious indoor plants have long been one of the ways for designers to show their creativity. After all, such green pets can survive in the conditions of vertical gardening, and in other extreme creative conditions. After all, for begonias, violets or azaleas, the conditions for their normal growth, moisture level and nutrition must first be met. Whereas the cactus will grow well in a pot, which is decorated with an old book or its imitation. As evidence - examples that you can see in the top photo. A hole is made in the surface of the cover or inside the book, which is covered with gravel or chips. Inside, under a layer of pebbles, there is a pot of earth, in which the plant itself is located. Since you will still need to water, although not so often, your green pet, it is best to cover the cut-out paper pages from the ends with varnish or diluted PVA glue so that a waterproof film forms on the paper surface.

DIY pots for indoor flowers

Unusual textures or the use of non-standard forms are typical for fashion options. pots with their own hands for indoor flowers. They have recently become especially popular, and, as it turned out, you can knit not only a blanket or pillowcase on a pillow, but also covers for decorating flower pots.

For knitting, you can use both knitting needles and a hook, the fabric in this case will differ in appearance. If you make weaving with knitting needles, you can decorate the knitting with braids, cones, weaves, as if weaving a real sweater, only for plants. Well, crochet products can be decorated with appliqués and embroidery, which will look very organic. Knitting is done using a circular element, which is widely used for napkins, and then, when the desired diagonal of the craft is reached, you stop adding loops, knitting only rows of the same size. In this case, the canvas will naturally grow in height, without increasing in diameter. Only at the end, when there will be a slight increase in the diameter of the container, you can also add the required number of loops. The main thing in such crafts is to make them strong enough so that, if necessary, you can hang or form vertical landscaping elements, as is the case with do-it-yourself macrame flower pots, schemes which you can find on the net. It is also important that knitted covers can be easily removed if you need to wash or clean them.

If knitting and complex varieties of needlework are not yet given to you, then planter covers can be made in a simpler way, for this you will need several knitted pullovers with a classic pattern or ornament. Several pieces will be needed because it is desirable that such covers are not single, but represent a series, then the composition will look more harmonious. In the photo you see an example of a similar craft, which is performed using a finished base. It can be any ready-made vase, which you can significantly decorate in such a simple way.

As for do-it-yourself hanging planters for flowers, photo with an example of the creation of which you see, then they belong to a glorious family or apartment. The beauty of such works is that, in addition to the ease of creation and availability (read, free) of source materials, they will perfectly show themselves for decorating flower beds, balconies, open spaces, because they are not afraid of snow and rain, bright sun and strong wind. As you can see, one single bottle of dark plastic is enough for you to place one flower pot, however, the bottle in the process of work changes beyond recognition. If you can’t draw a template for the faces of a bunny and a bear yourself, you can find suitable images on the Web.

DIY flower pot for the garden

The next large section is devoted to creating DIY flower pot for the garden. Increasingly, in addition to summer residents, other ways of placing flowering plants on the site are also interested, because the more such beauty around, the more you will be inspired to stay in the country.

The method of recycling old beach slippers, which is proposed above, is suitable for all lovers. In addition to the flip flops themselves, you will also need ceramic tea cups, preferably matched to the color of the shoes. Thanks to the design of the rubber bands on the flip flops, the cup will be securely fixed inside, provided that the plant, along with the soil, does not weigh too much. By the way, in this case, the cup can be turned from an integral part of the cache-pot into an independent container if, using a suitable drill, several drainage holes are made in its bottom.

can also be born on the basis of global design trends. If earlier you could simply knock down a box for seedlings with the help of boards, now a planter, which is a bar with a cut out middle, is already a fashionable designer pot for plants. Moreover, such a box is recommended to be artificially aged a little, for this it is impregnated with stain, rubbed with sandpaper or other similar materials, and then covered with protective azure, so that the decor can safely remain outside in all weather conditions.

Often in the country there is a fairly large number of old baskets, wicker coasters, which individually have a completely unpresentable appearance. However, if you use them in combination with each other, making, for example, complex vertical gardening of the fence, then such a composition will immediately look not old, but vintage, adding a lot of advantages to the appearance of the site.

The following idea is based on exactly the same principle, only instead of boring pots and baskets, this composition uses pot-bellied ceramic teapots, some of which you can find in your household, and buy the other part at a flea market. When they make up one common row, it looks creative and certainly attracts attention.

Do-it-yourself hanging planter for flowers

In that, that is, directly that part of the site that is occupied by trees, there is also nothing complicated. You simply need hanging planter for flowers. DIY it can be made using improvised materials, as well as weaving it yourself using the macrame needlework technique.

The main task of any such suspension system is to create fixtures that would keep the entire system in balance so that the pot is in a level position and the plant can feel comfortable. There can be three or more fasteners, since it is possible to keep the system in balance with two ropes only if there are special ears exactly on the sides, and then the reliability of such a craft will be doubtful.

As you can see from the photo that adorns this section, both an old basketball and floral linen, which is used for eco-crafts, can serve as the material for the planter itself.

DIY macrame flower pots

Always look beautiful do-it-yourself macrame flower pots, this ancient needlework allows you to create reliable designs, in which, in addition, thanks to various combinations of knots and loops, you can add various decorative elements: stone and wooden beads, flowers made of plastic or clay.

For such elegant do-it-yourself flower pots schemes you can find in magazines devoted to this type of needlework, and you can either buy materials in a specialized store or order using online resources. In any case, the cost of such crafts will even allow you to spend a certain amount of materials for the period of mastering the technique, in any case, the planter will look like a fashionable designer decoration.

Creating unusual flower pots with his own hands from cement and various fillers, a home craftsman not only makes a container for plants: casting and subsequent processing of a container made of concrete is a creative process that requires both imagination and the ability to notice details, combine the shape of a flowerpot and what will grow in it. The result of the work done can be a real work of art. Its difference from the most elegant plastic pots from the store lies in the originality of the design and the individuality of the author, which he conveys to the manufactured item.

The main material for all concrete work is cement. The strength of the structure, no matter how large it is, depends on its brand. Flower pots are no exception. In order for self-sculpted cement pots to last longer, it is best to take cement grade M400 or M500. To make a flower container, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • cement;
  • seeded sand, fine;
  • containers of different sizes and desired shapes;
  • moss, peat, colored plastic granules (aquarium soil), shells, pebbles, etc.;
  • drill with mixer nozzle.

If there is no suitable container for pouring concrete mortar, then you can make any form with your own hands from a durable moisture-proof material - plywood, tin, thick cardboard.

The larger the finished product, the more durable material you need to choose, because concrete is a very heavy substance.

Insufficiently rigid walls of the mold under the weight of the cement mortar can be deformed, violating the original intention of the author.

This is especially important if you want to get a product with smooth edges.

simple flowerpot

For its manufacture, 2 plastic containers are needed: a larger one and a smaller one. The wall thickness of the future product depends on the difference in size. A large form must be covered with any oil (machine, vegetable) on the inside so that the hardened mixture can easily separate from it. The inner, smaller form can be left as an insulating layer instead of being removed. An excess amount of substances that reduce the acidity of the soil cannot penetrate through plastic into the soil for planted flowers, and moisture during irrigation cannot enter the pores of concrete. This is important if the cement flowerpot is installed in the garden: concrete saturated with water can collapse very quickly in severe frost.

Before you make a flower pot with your own hands, you need to take care of the drainage. To do this, on the bottom of a larger container, pieces of a tube, bars or other objects lubricated with oil should be placed no more than the desired bottom thickness.

Prepare a mortar from 1 part of M400-M500 cement and 3 parts of sand. If desired, decor in the form of a shell, colored granules, etc. can be added to the mixture. It is necessary to pour the mixture first onto the bottom of a larger container, straighten the bars and install a smaller form on them, trying to equalize the gaps between it and the large container. Put a weight in the inner container that will not allow it to rise when pouring.

Concrete should be poured into the gaps between the forms and compacted a little. Gradually, compacting each layer, continue pouring until the gaps are filled to the desired height. Leave the product to set for 12-14 hours. After that, it can be carefully removed from the larger container and the bars removed, cleaning the drainage holes. If you want to leave the inner mold inside the pot, you will need to cut through the bottom of the pot over these holes.

The outer surface of the container must be cleaned with a drill attachment for grinding (round hard brush with metal bristles). If there were decorative elements in the concrete, this will help to show their structure. With a brush, you need to process all the edges and corners of the container, eliminating burrs and irregularities. After that, the flowerpot can be painted or decorated with ceramic and glass elements by attaching them to ordinary tile adhesive.

Products from hypertufa

Hypertufa artificial stone is the same concrete, but with slightly different fillers. The binder can be taken as ordinary M500, as well as white or colored cement. Only the appearance of the finished product will depend on this, since the strength of the listed materials is almost the same.

Instead of the sand used for the usual concrete mix, agroperlite is used to create hypertufa - a volcanic mineral that can absorb water in large quantities, gradually giving it to plants. You can buy it in horticultural organizations if you want to make cement pots with your own hands using this technology. Instead of perlite, you can take vermiculite or fine expanded clay - in each case it will be a different texture of the material and a completely different visual effect.

Another necessary component of the mixture is high-moor peat, used in horticulture as a material that gives the soil porosity and breathability. Peat also has a high ability to absorb moisture and easily release it in case of increased dryness of the environment.

To give strength to hypertufa pots, a wire frame is also needed if the flowerpot is of a large capacity (5 liters or more). For small pots, you can add a thin synthetic fiber directly into the solution, cut into pieces of 5-7 cm. The pot is made in the following steps:

  1. 1 Mix the dry components of the solution (2 parts of cement, 1 part of perlite and 2 parts of peat) and add enough water to make the mass look like softened plasticine.
  2. 2 Line the mold with plastic wrap. The formation of wrinkles should not be avoided - they will give the outer surface of the flowerpot a resemblance to natural stone.
  3. 3 In some places, to give a decorative and aged look, you need to lay pieces of ordinary dry moss. This material will look organic on a flowerpot in the garden.
  4. 4 Put a little mass on the bottom of the container and stretch it with your hands, forming a layer about 5 cm thick. Make holes for drainage.
  5. 5 Adding a little concrete mixture, sculpt the walls of the pots according to the shape, raising them to the desired height. If a wire frame is needed, it should be installed at this stage and the mix should be applied further by dipping the wire into the concrete. Treat the edges and the inner surface with a damp sponge, leveling it. Cover the finished structure with polyethylene and stand for several days until it becomes light.
  6. 6 With a hard metal brush or a nozzle on a drill, treat the surface, revealing its microrelief.

It is better not to paint such a pot, since its surface is very similar to natural stone, but if desired, you can shade the depressions a little and brighten the convex places if the product is made of white cement.

A hypertufa pot weighs a little less than a cast concrete pot. But when sculpting a large container, it is best to perform all operations immediately at the installation site, since the transfer may not be possible.

DIY flower pots made of concrete or hypertufa can decorate the interior of a room, a place to relax in the garden, and an entrance group. Plastic material allows you to create containers of various shapes that may be required by the designer. You can decorate a cement pot with stucco elements from the same mass, and by gluing ceramic parts on top, and by including the decor directly into the solution. In each case, it will be a new effect and a unique surface pattern.
