Preservation of the protective layer– a layer is preserved on a manually chopped log, which protects the log from the effects of external negative factors.

Maximum log length- in length, a chopped log can reach 12 m, the length of other materials - up to 6.5-7 m (laminated timber is an exception).

Optimum log diameter– the diameter of the logs is 20-28 cm, embedded logs can reach a diameter of 30 cm.

Favorable geometry- the log retains its conical shape, which minimizes cracking in the future (unlike rounded logs and timber, where the butt and the top are of the same diameter).

Log processing

Making a log house to order begins with the purchase of roundwood and the processing of logs - the bark will be removed from them. This process is called debarking, and the treated logs are debarked. To preserve the protective layer of each log, an ax or a scraper is used for debarking. Another way to remove the bark from a log is also possible - using a planer, but still, when using an ax and a scraper, the top layer of wood is less damaged.

Drying wood

One of the most important questions for those who plan to order a turnkey log house is the method of wood drying. The most preferred option is natural drying, since during it the least changes occur in the wood structure. A hand-cut log subjected to natural drying has a minimum number of cracks, the size of which is 1-2 mm, while cracks on a rounded log reach 10 mm in size.

Are there any disadvantages?

There are also disadvantages to a log house made of hand-cut logs, but they are not related to the quality of the final product. When buying a log house to order, the customer must understand that the production time for such a structure is longer than, for example, the production time for a log house from rounded logs. But at the same time, it is worth remembering that, on average, such a log house can be cut down in 1-2 weeks. The discrepancy between the diameter of the butt and the top of the log is a disadvantage not so much for the customer as for the manufacturer. Logs with a minimum discrepancy are selected for the log house, so outwardly it is practically not noticeable.
