Hand carved wooden fence. How to make a carved wooden fence with your own hands using a template? Wicker from the board - a beautiful fence

Since ancient times, people have sought to protect their territory with a fence.

The fence served as one of the means of defense: protection from enemy raids and attacks by wild animals.

Over time, the fence became not only an element of protecting the territory, but also acquired the function of decoration.

Today, the former popularity has returned to wooden fences. And they are erected not only because of their cheapness (although this can be argued), but rather as an interesting element of landscape design.

We already wrote about it in one of the previous articles, but today we will talk more about the decorative effect of wooden fences, about the functionality and aesthetics of this fence.

The main functions of the fence

The most important functions of the fence include two:

  • protection and
  • decorative

According to the purpose and use in residential individual buildings, we divide the fences into the following types:

  • fencing of the entire territory of a residential building, summer cottage, etc.;
  • enclosure for animals;
  • fencing of the front garden, flower bed, flower garden.

To protect the territory from unwanted penetrations and prying eyes, a blind fence is used.

A solid fence can be made in the form of a round log palisade, stakes driven into the ground and, as a rule, pointed at the top.

This type of fencing looks great in combination with buildings (a residential building, a bathhouse) made of round logs, and is often used by summer residents to protect crops from "uninvited guests", especially if the territory is often empty waiting for the owners.

A blind fence can also be built from edged boards, slabs, lining.

For greater stability and decorativeness of the fence, pillars made of stone, brick or metal are used as bearing supports; corrugated sheets laid on top of the fence will protect from precipitation.

A beautiful pattern can be achieved by laying boards in a checkerboard pattern or overlapping, horizontally, vertically or diagonally.

We get the effect of a “wicker” fence by fixing the boards between the supports, either from the outside or from the inside, as if braiding the supporting wooden or metal poles.

Fences with a transparency of 10-50% are a combination of protective and decorative functions in fences. As a material for the manufacture of the fence, the types of lumber listed above are used, as well as bars, slats, vines and flexible tree branches.

Fence an easy-to-make fence, often used (high or low), both from boards on wooden poles, and in combination with a variety of building materials.

Wattle - a fence made of vines, twigs, branches intertwined between vertical or horizontal guides. It is distinguished by its special decorative effect, an indispensable type of fencing for the landscape in the style of "Russian country".

lattice fence made of wooden bars-slats. Such a fence can be made independently, or you can purchase ready-made panels.

From simple to complex

Any, even the simplest fence can become a masterpiece, it is enough to show imagination and ingenuity. A little (or a lot) of free time, desire, improvised and building materials, a tool, a mature idea - and your fence will become the most attractive in the area.

Even an ordinary palisade will not be monotonous, dull, and most importantly intimidating if the logs are simply painted with different colors like colored pencils.

A simple board fence can be turned into piano keys. The original solution does not require much time and cost. On white-painted boards, black bars are stuffed with a certain step. And already pleasant music sounds, and the work goes on.

Similarly, you can decorate pre-painted boards by stuffing figures cut out with a jigsaw on them - creativity for the whole family - from small to large.

A wooden house with carved architraves, traditionally decorated with a picket fence made of carved planks. It was customary to arrange flower beds and a front garden in front of the windows. To get sunlight, as well as to view flower arrangements, inserts from a carved picket fence were made in a blank fence.

The picket fence, decorated with saw cut logs, looks very unusual. Such a fence will be perfectly combined with wooden architecture and a step-by-step path in the garden from the same "rounds".

Elements cut from boards according to a template create an unusual undulating surface. The work is laborious, but the result is worth it.

A wattle fence from branches of vines or vines can be made in the form of a braid. A lot of work will have to be done on such a fence.

The fence made of boards laid in different directions has a certain rhythm and texture.

To get away from the monotony of the usual solid wooden fence, a lattice of bars, stuffed on the fence with a certain step, and contrasting with the main plane in color, will help. In the warm season, the lattice can be decorated with flower pots.

A lot has already been said about the arrangement of the house and the summer cottage. From them you can make not only furniture, but also a pretty fence.

And this fence-lattice is made of ordinary cuttings for garden tools. The base is a concrete base.

And I also want to pay attention to the design of wooden fences, or rather fences for flower beds and front gardens. It is no secret that they play an important role in shaping the landscape of the local area.

An elegant picket fence in light colors will favorably emphasize a flower bed.

With the help of a log fence in the form of a palisade, you can raise the flower bed. The fence will serve as a kind of retaining wall for the ground.

Openwork wattle - like a wicker basket, in which a flower arrangement will comfortably settle down.

There are as many options for fencing as there are people living on the planet. The design of a wooden fence depends not only on your preferences, but also on the landscape design of the site in general, if you adhere to it.

Fantasize and create, landscape the territory, sometimes nature itself suggests interesting solutions.

None of the building materials, from traditional to the most modern, can evoke such a warm response in the soul of a person as wood. Wooden buildings have many faces. Fortified walls with oak palisades breathe harsh antiquity, and carved wooden fences look at us in a childishly naive and open way.

The natural pattern of wood is like a mysterious message encrypted by someone. On sections processed by the hand of a master, you can peer into the bizarre bends of the fibers endlessly. Even in the photo, a polished cut of a tree growth - a burl - looks like a map of unknown lands, and touch will add here all the warmth of the sun that the tree has absorbed over its long, long life ...

Surely you have something on the site built of natural wood, or a thing made of wood - necessary in the household, or just decorating the yard, like this funny figurine in the photo. So: this building, or this thing - they are unique. Just as there are no two identical trees in the forest, no two absolutely identical objects can be created from a tree.

To make your house smile to the whole world

Maybe you are not going to fence yourself off tightly from all of humanity. You, on the contrary, like to look out the window at the busy life of your street, greet passing neighbors, and be aware of everything that happens around you.

It is wonderful. And we will help you choose a type of palisade for your home that not only encloses your possessions, but vice versa, inscribes the voice of your home into the overall symphony of the street, village, city ...

Tree in all languages: picket fence, tyn, seal ...

So, our task is to choose the most “friendly” palisade, which serves as protection not so much from people as from accidental penetration of animals. It is highly desirable that our palisade inspire people with maximum positiveness and look like an invitation to our hospitable home.

Palisades made of wood are distinguished by an amazing constructive variety. Here are just a few of them, with a brief description of the most characteristic features:

  1. Picket fence (from the German Staket - stick, stake). Strongly holds leadership in rural areas due to low cost and ease of installation. It would seem that what new can be created from a picket fence? But no, a person’s imagination will help to get up even from simple blocks ... it’s hard to describe even in words, look better at the photo. Do not want to saw and beat? You can just paint in a rainbow color, very fun. Modification of the picket fence - chess. From the same elements, that is, from shtaketin, an opaque, but, nevertheless, blown palisade is created. And it looks very high quality, see for yourself. Currently, not ordinary, but curly pickets are popular.
  2. Palisades from unedged boards, type "longitudinal checkerboard". Quickly assembled ventilated palisade. Due to the cheapness of unedged lumber, it is one of the most budgetary palisades. But, see for yourself, it looks - stylish! The main thing here is to match the curves of the lumber, otherwise, instead of a symphony, you will get a cacophony.
  3. Consignment note from unedged boards. Mounted with a "ladder", overlapping by 2-5 cm, for clarity. It is also important to choose boards with matching bends. Openings are sometimes made in such a palisade, and carved or lattice inserts are added to the opening. Looks very good.
  4. Classic edged board palisade. Everyone has seen him more than once. But if you add overhead carved details to it, as in the photo, it will sound in a new way.
  5. Edged board braid. A thin board is taken (lining, for example), and “woven” around the supporting pillars, fastened at the points of contact with the support. Looks very good.
  6. Palisade, he's a seal. Here he is in the photo. Almost disappeared was the type of palisades, left to us as a legacy from the Cossack outposts and Siberian pioneers. It is currently experiencing a rebirth. Modern zaplot (it is also a prison in some Siberian regions) is made of logs. Palisade - not for sociable, but quite the opposite.
  7. Tyn, he's a wattle fence. An integral part of rural landscapes of sparsely forested areas. Perfectly combined with sunflowers, crocks and towels. Ukraine is considered to be the birthplace of tyna. Although residents, for example, of the Orenburg region may object that tyn is something denser and higher, akin to a plot. Let's not cast a shadow on the wattle fence, it's better to prudently give up the authorship of the tyn to our Ukrainian brothers.
  8. Carved palisade. It comes from the classic, but completely unrecognizable changed by the inspired hand of the master. Look at the photo, this is just what we need!

Carved wooden palisades are so diverse that a dozen more similar articles could be devoted to them. Our photo gallery will tell you everything more eloquently than any words.

Carved can be both the entire surface of the palisade, and some part of it. Usually carvings decorate the upper part of the palisade and the gate. But sometimes this is not enough for the master, and then the house gradually turns into a folk tale: the cashing becomes carved, the skate ... and finally, the whole house, from top to bottom. One of these houses will please your eye in the photo.

If you want your palisade to give you joy, and the neighbors not just hurry by, but smile, then choose a carved wooden palisade for yourself. Of course, it is not as durable as the same metal picket fence, but in our other article we will tell you in detail how to extend the life of a tree as long as possible. Even if your wooden carved palisades do not become as eternal as Kizhi, then for twenty or thirty years they will definitely be enough. And this is a lot.

So, the choice is made and the decision is made - the picket fence is carved!

This is a great option for a fence for your home or garden. Why?

Because the fence is:

  • rational financial investment;
  • easily self-solving task;
  • light weight and the ability to do without a foundation;
  • structural stability due to openwork;
  • excellent air circulation;
  • various standard sizes of finished sections;
  • wide choice of materials;
  • variety of design;
  • good protection of the site;
  • in national traditions.

Photo 1 - Pride of the owners

Despite the fact that you won’t surprise anyone with a plastic or metal picket fence, many owners still prefer wood. The reasons for this are simple: the tree is easily processed and makes it possible to decorate your estate with an original fence, to demonstrate your taste and skill. And although such a fence is not so durable, it is cheaper and easily repaired.

Regardless of whether you yourself decorate your fence with carvings or turn to craftsmen, you need to clearly understand what you want, what kind of carvings you want to decorate the fence with.

The main types of woodcarving:

  1. geometric carving - requires skill, special tools, time or money. At the heart of the pattern is a geometric ornament;
  1. contour carving - used to obtain three-dimensional figures. Crafting requires skill and patience;
  1. lace carving is a very effective and affordable technique for many. The essence of the method is to apply the outline of the pattern on a wooden blank according to the template and then cut the element with a jigsaw. You can speed up the work by using a jigsaw.

How to make a carved picket fence with your own hands

If you have chosen lace carving, then it is performed on blank boards before the fence is sheathed.

For such a carved fence you need:

  • select and prepare contour pattern templates on paper;
  • transfer this pattern with a pencil to a tree;
  • cut the pattern with a jigsaw along the contour lines;
  • clean uneven edges with sandpaper.

For a master with little experience, it is better to choose a simpler pattern, thin boards or multilayer plywood.

When using geometric or contour carving, small decorative elements are attached to an already sheathed fence with nails, self-tapping screws or glue.

To create carved elements, depending on the type of thread chosen, you need a jigsaw or chisels of different profiles.

To install the same fence, use the usual tools for mounting a fence and an algorithm of actions.

Instruments:

  • wood saw;
  • level and rule;
  • hammer, nails;
  • shovel or drill;
  • tape measure, cord, pencil;
  • containers for preparing the solution;
  • solution components.

Operating procedure:

  • mark the corners of the perimeter of the fence with pegs;
  • pull the cord around the perimeter;
  • mark the position of the intermediate posts with pegs;
  • dig holes to a depth of 1/3 of the height of the supports;
  • wrap the processed corner supports with roofing material and install in the pits, level, concrete;
  • after the solution has hardened, pull the cord horizontally between the corner supports from above, in the middle and below;
  • focusing on the stretched cord, install the prepared remaining supports, align, concrete;
  • after the mortar has hardened, install horizontal jumpers from the timber to stiffen the structure (use staples, nails or self-tapping screws);
  • nail or screw the fence to the frame with screws.

Recently, overhead metal openwork elements in the form of planks are sometimes used to decorate the picket fence. Such fence strips are made using plasma cutting technology and are attached to the corrugated board fence.

Not so long ago, there were examples of inserting openwork metal inserts into a fence and even fences made of metal sheets cut by a laser.
