How to cut a bottle with a thread at home. How to cut a glass bottle with a regular thread? Easy and fast! Glass bottles in the garden

Today, “Hand Made” creativity is gaining momentum every day. Very often, needleworkers use glass bottles in their creations. They make vases, lamps, coasters, etc. out of them.
I will show you a very simple way to cut a bottle cleanly in almost a few seconds.

All we need is nichrome wire, a 12 V battery and cold water.

We cut the bottle

First you need to determine the location of the incision. To make it even, take a piece of paper and wrap the bottle around it. Align the edges of the sheet so that the line is even. Then take a felt-tip pen or marker and draw a border around the edge of the sheet. Now the leaf can be removed.

Next, you need to take a piece of nichrome wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm, attach one end to a stationary object. For these purposes, I use a black weight. We immediately attach one wire from the battery to it.

We make a coil around the bottle. And align to the trail of the marker.

In order not to get burned, take the wire with pliers. Pull just a little to straighten the wire.
Apply voltage to the other end of the wire.

It can be seen that the wire is hot. In places of contact with the bottle, the wire does not completely turn red, as the bottle takes away heat.

We wait without moving the wire and holding it in tension for about 30 seconds.
Then we quickly remove the wire and sprinkle the place of heating with water. You can also prepare a bucket of water and dip the bottle into it.

You will hear a peculiar click of glass, and the bottle will burst exactly along the line where the nichrome wire passed.

Everything is explained simply: during the heating of a certain place in the glass, internal stress arises. After a sharp cooling, the surface of the glass cools sharply, while its inner part remains heated. As a result of such a sharp change, microcracks appear, which instantly turn into a split.

Such a trick can be done not only with round bottles, but also with square, oval, etc. bottles.

Many people know that old bottles can always be adapted, having previously “recycled” them a little, for useful things for the home. But not many are aware of how easy it is, because they have no idea how to cut off a part of a glass bottle without a special machine, and even in a matter of minutes. At the same time, cutting off the neck of a beer bottle, you will get 2 excellent and original beer glasses: the lower part will go like a man's, the top one - like a woman's; by removing the top of a wine bottle or champagne bottle, you can later use the bottom as a flower vase, and the top again as a stemmed glass. In the same way, the lower part of a sufficiently spacious bottle can be converted into a lamp. Well, as the process description below demonstrates, cutting glass is surprisingly easy, and you can always apply this process to any glass object. It is also a safe and practical way to cut glass.

Undoubtedly, it is also a funny and amazing trick that is worth demonstrating in a company or at a party. Shocked faces will be your reward, as most have never seen anything like it before.

You will need:
- lighter fluid, or nail polish remover, or, for example, kerosene;
- a long and relatively strong piece of thread;
- a bowl / basin with cold water, voluminous enough to accommodate the bottle in full length and height;
- protective glasses;
- lighter / matches or something similar of your choice;
- spoon (optional)
- a file with a diamond coating or fine-grained good sandpaper - to refine the edges of cut glass.

1. Soak the floss for several minutes in lighter fluid or nail polish remover (or kerosene). The length of the thread can always be pre-measured on the bottle.

2. Mark a straight cut line on the bottle with a felt-tip pen if you are cutting the bottle not just for fun, but for a vase or other decorative purpose. Otherwise, skip this step.
Tie the soaked thread in a few (2-3) turns around the bottle along the line where you want to cut the glass. Naturally, it is necessary to wrap and tie tightly! But do not make a big knot so that the cut off part turns out to be even in the end, and an oval does not form under the knot after burning the thread. And a few turns of the thread should not create a thick strip.

3. Put on safety goggles. Holding the bottle over a flame-proof surface, light the thread. So that the thread on one side does not finish burning when it just starts burning on the other, you can gently and quickly set fire to several sides at once, but in no case hold the lighter / match by itself for a long time at some part of the bottle. Let the thread burn out completely - keep the bottle at a safe distance until the thread burns out on its own completely (the fire will also “go away” by itself).

4. Then immediately place the bottle in cold water in a bowl/basin - dip completely and hold the bottle in your hands. A sharp change in temperature will cause the glass to crack exactly along the line of burning of the thread: that is why the layer of thread on the bottle should not be wide!

5. Gently pat the glass with the top of the spoon - along the line where the burning thread wrapped around the bottle was, if the glass did not break by itself. It is better to keep a spoon immediately at hand so as not to miss the moment.

6. Smooth out any ridges on the edges of the bottle cuts you want with a diamond file/fine sandpaper. For this part of the process, make sure the glass is wet and slippery enough, otherwise there will be problems with the diamond file.

A warning: Make sure you have everything you need to put out the fire (fire extinguisher, plenty of water, thick cloth that does not burn well, such as a blanket made of certain materials) when you work with the bottle - in case there are problems. Consider also wearing protective gloves. And remember that children and teenagers under 18, as well as people under the closet, are better off not doing such things, because they are likely to neglect security measures.

Add-ons:

- Always remember that it is not at all necessary to “cut” in a straight line. The thread can be wound around the oval at an angle or even fixed with adhesive tape (but just don’t glue the tape in the way the thread burns, glue where the burning should end!) in any other angle, the main thing is to observe the condition of the thread to fit snugly to the glass;

- The same can be done with any other glass thing, for example, with glass panels, but in this case both sides of the panel must be heated at the same time.

The decor of glass bottles has been quite popular lately, and since many are interested in the question of how to cut a glass bottle at home, without using a glass cutter, I want to dedicate today's master class to a simple but interesting way to cut a bottle with a thread ...
In this connection, the topic of this master class is “How to cut a bottle with a thread - nothing complicated!”.

For work we need:
1. Glass bottle;
2. Woolen threads;
3. Solvent (can be kerosene, alcohol, cologne, acetone);
4. Scissors or stationery knife;
5. Gloves (will protect the skin of the hands from exposure to the solvent);
6. Lighter or matches;
7. To protect the eyes, just in case, goggles (in fact, there are no fragments, but caution is never superfluous);
8. Deep basin filled with cold water.

So, how to cut a bottle with a thread? We take a woolen thread, measure and cut it in such a way that it is enough for 3-4 turns of the bottle.
We immerse the measured and cut thread in the solvent, and immediately wrap the bottle in the place where it is planned to make an “incision”. You can simply wrap the thread or tie it in a knot, in this master class I just wrapped it.

After that, we set fire to this thread with matches or a lighter, and it is better to keep the bottle in an inclined position - strictly horizontally (parallel to the ground), gently scrolling around the axis.

The fire will burn for about 30-40 seconds, as soon as the lit thread goes out - quickly lower the bottle into the prepared basin filled with cold water.

Next, the characteristic sound of cracked glass will be heard, and the bottle will instantly split into two parts. This type of glass cutting is based on a rapid change in temperature, we all know from the lessons of physics that glass expands when heated, and narrows when cooled, respectively, with a sharp change in temperature, a kind of destruction of glass occurs and it simply cracks!

We figured out how to cut a bottle with a thread, but how to process sharp glass edges? You can use sandpaper or stone to sharpen knives. Last, you should process the edges of the bottle, previously immersed in water, so the processing is easier and faster (it is better to protect your hands with rubber gloves). Friends, I ask you not to forget about the notorious safety precautions, after all you will work with fire and glass, goggles on your eyes, gloves on your hands and a basin with plenty of water are a must!

Why throw away glass bottles when you can make delicious ones out of them. decor elements that will look chic in any interior? If you think that cutting a bottle is very difficult and even dangerous, you are mistaken. There are a few easy ways to help you do this safely so you can create your own little masterpiece.

How to cut a glass bottle

This video shows 2 ways to cut glass. One of them uses glass cutter, and for the other you only need hot and cold water!

PRODUCTS FROM GLASS BOTTLES

1. You can make such cute vases from wine bottles.

2. Or shovels for cereals.

3. And even creative glasses!

Use this advice to add originality to your interior and make it unique. These unique items will definitely decorate your home!

In this publication, you will learn how to neatly and evenly or a jar using motor or vegetable oil.

We fill the dishes with cold water to the level where we want to make a cut. We place it in some container, which also needs to be filled with water to the level of water from the vessel. Now add oil to the bowl until a thin oil crust forms on the surface of the water, which will completely envelop the glass container.

Most importantly, you should not pour oil straight from the bottle, because the film will turn out to be uneven and thus nothing will come of it.

Next, to carry out the procedure for cutting a bottle or jar, we will select a piece of metal. The thicker the glass we want to cut, the thicker the metal must be. The glass is quite thin, so the blade of a clerical knife fit perfectly. We heat it red-hot with a burner or gas stove.

Now we lower the hot blade into the bowl only to the oil level.

Remember to protect your skin and eyes from hot splashes!

Due to the rapidly incandescent film, the glass heats up, and due to the temperature difference it cracks. So we can carefully cut the glass bottle.

As you can see, the chip turned out perfectly even.
