School project how to cut a glass bottle. How to cut a glass bottle with a thread. Glass bottle products

You will need

  • - several bottles of the required size;
  • - twine soaked in kerosene or gasoline;
  • -copper wire and fire source (lighter, gas burner, etc.);
  • -nichrome wire and clothespin;
  • - pliers, file or whetstone; - cotton gloves.

Instruction

Take two glass bottles of the required size. It's better to do this for a number of reasons. If in the future you plan to use both parts of the bottle, then after the cutting and grinding procedure, you will have a better chance of getting exactly what you intended. In any case, a little experience is desirable for the success of this operation. Traditionally, a diamond is used to cut glass. But for cutting bottles in they are not always effective. Depending on the material you have at your disposal, try one of the following methods.

Fill the bottle with water to the level where you want to make the cut. Tie the bottle with twine moistened with gasoline or kerosene, according to the level of the poured water. Do not allow the twine to sag - it should fit very tightly against the walls of the bottle at water level. Light the twine. The bottle should burst exactly along the twine line.

Take a thick copper wire in order to cut the glass bottle in the second way. Wrap it tightly around the bottle in the place where you want to get a cut. There should be no gaps between the wire and the bottle. Prepare a container of cold water. Use a lighter or torch to heat the loose ends of the wire. At the moment when the wire is hot, lower the bottle into cold water. The bottle should burst along the wire line.

Mount the electric glass cutter. This is a fairly capacious process, but it can be used to get the highest quality cut on large-diameter thick glass bottles. At a wooden clothespin, sponges are treated with asbestos. Nichrome wire with a diameter of about 0.5 mm will serve as a spiral. It is necessary to cover the vessel being cut with it, and fasten the ends of the spiral between the clothespins so that they do not connect. Put ceramic insulators or porcelain beads on the free ends. Connect the ends with mounting wires of the MGShV type with a cross section of 0.5-0.75 sq. mm and connect to a step-down transformer with a voltage on the secondary winding of 10-12 V. In its absence, you can use a car battery. As soon as the wire warms up, a crack forms at the point of contact with the glass, along which the vessel can be easily split.

Finish the cut surface. If sharp chips have formed, they can be gradually crushed with pliers, then file the surface. Finally, grind the edge of the bottle with a whetstone or fine sandpaper.

note

Use cotton gloves when handling glass.

Helpful advice

When finishing the edges of the bottle, the tools become dull very quickly, so it is advisable to use bars and files that have already been in use.

If the neck of a plastic bottle can be cut off with an ordinary knife or scissors, then it will take skill and skill to evenly separate the neck from a glass bottle. From a glass bottle with a cut off neck, you can make a pretty vase, glass or ashtray.

Instruction

Take the glass cutter. Glass cutter must be diamond. Scratch them to the desired circular or curly line. Wrap the bottle in a thin towel. Tap the scratched area with a small hammer. The throat will separate from the bottle.

Take a grinder and call an assistant. This operation is necessary. Turn on the grinder and let the assistant press it to the table. Make the necessary scratch on the bottle by pressing it against the spinning disk of the grinder and slowly turning it. Wrap the bottle in a towel and tap it. The throat will separate.

Make ice water in the refrigerator. Pour it into the bottle up to the place where you want to make a cut. Pour 30 milliliters of kerosene on top and set it on fire. The neck of the bottle will fly off by itself due to the sharp temperature difference. The cut in this case is very even. Gasoline in this case is strictly prohibited!

Prepare with ice water. Wrap the bottle with thread in several layers in the place where the cut is needed. Moisten the thread with gasoline or pure alcohol and set it on fire. When the thread burns out, quickly lower the bottle into ice water. The throat will separate due to the temperature difference.

Soak the empty bottle for 20 minutes in the freezer of the refrigerator. Wrap a piece of nichrome wire with a resistance of at least 75 ohms around the bottle in a half loop where a cut is needed. Connect the ends of the wire to a 220 volt network. When the wire is hot, the throat will fly off due to the temperature difference.

Roughen the surface of the bottle with sandpaper where a cut is needed. Take a graphite pencil. Graphite should be soft. Draw a circular line where you want the cut. Do not close the line to the end, leave a gap of 5 millimeters. Cool the bottle in the freezer. Then connect 220 volts to the ends of the line drawn with graphite where there is a gap. The neck of the bottle will fly off due to the temperature difference.

Always follow safety precautions. All work with glass is carried out with gloves on. Eyes must be protected with special goggles. Do not perform such work in the presence of children. Perform any work with fire only on the street. Keep a fire extinguisher close at hand.

An ordinary glass bottle can be successfully used in the household. For example, from such a container you can get a pretty pretty vase for flowers. It's just a pity that only one flower can fit in a narrow neck. It does not matter, because if you wish, you can solve this problem. To do this, you need to cut the bottle, or rather, carefully divide it into parts.

You will need

  • - an empty glass bottle;
  • - rope;
  • - gasoline or kerosene;
  • - copper wire;
  • - bucket;
  • - cold water;
  • - candle;
  • - matches (lighter);
  • - file;
  • - wire cutters;
  • - pliers.

Instruction

Take a glass bottle and tie it with a thin string at the level at which you want to divide it. Pre-moisten the rope with plenty of kerosene or gasoline. When choosing a rope, try not to make it too thick. As a last resort, use woolen thread. The thinner the string, the tighter it will adhere to the glass surface, which will provide a more even cut.

Pour cold water into the bottle so that it reaches exactly the level of the future incision. Make sure the string and water level match. If necessary, adjust the rope so that it fits the bottle evenly around the entire diameter.

Using a match or a long wooden stick, set fire to the rope. When the fire covers it completely, a temperature difference is formed (outside there will be a high temperature from burning, and inside you will have cold water). The collision of hot and cold will cause the glass to burst along a line corresponding to the water level.

When using the second method, draw water. Wrap the bottle around the line of the intended cut with thick copper wire, leaving a short tip. With the help of a candle flame, begin to heat this free tip. Gradually, the entire wire will become hot. Now quickly and carefully lower the bottle into the bucket of water. If everything is done correctly, the glass will burst exactly in the place where the heated wire is located. This method is safer than the one described above.

If the edges of the bottle after such cutting are not too smooth, process them with wire cutters or pliers, and then grind them with a whetstone or file with a fine notch. When processing, moisten the file with water from time to time. Do not move the file randomly, but along the glass cut. Be careful not to cut your hands on the glass. Use a bottle cut in one of the ways described as a decorative vase.

  • How to "cut" a glass bottle

From a bottle, decorating it, you can make a stylish vase, but you just need to cut off its neck. The original idea belongs to the craftswoman Jordan, who uses only cotton thread and acetone or nail polish remover.

Rounded glass can serve not only as a vessel for liquid, but also as a source of inspiration. With the ability to cut glass bottles and jars, you can make a lot of amazing things. From glasses and ashtrays to lamps and designer spatulas, the number of recycled crafts is limited only by the imagination. It's amazing how original and beautiful things can come out of practically free material. The main thing is the desire to create, and we will talk about the process itself in this article.

Types of glass cutters for bottles

To date, there are many ready-made devices for cutting glass jars and bottles. All of them have a different design, but according to the type of action they are divided into only two groups: cutting and heating. The general principle of both groups remains the same - the bottle is fixed in a horizontal position and rotates around the glass cutter or heating element. The principle of operation of the devices is quite similar, but has some features.

The roller glass cutter for bottles has a simple design and is widely used by homemade lovers. Can be assembled with your own hands from improvised means. The cost of the finished device varies from a few hundred to a couple of thousand rubles. The cut line is quite even, but the edges require grinding. The best option for home craftsmen.

A bottle cutter with a heating element has a more complex mechanism, but also a higher cut quality. The device is powered by mains or battery. You can assemble this, if you have special knowledge, but at your own peril and risk. Ready-made devices cost several thousand rubles and are unlikely to be of interest to most of the population. Suitable for creative workshops or designers.

DIY bottle glass cutter

It is not necessary to spend money on buying a glass cutter for bottles. This device is very simple, and if you have certain details and desire, you can do it yourself. Below, we will give a step-by-step photo instruction for assembling a convenient and practical cutter. You may have to buy some parts, but they cost a penny and are sold in any market or hardware store.

Required materials:

  • Wooden base: 25 x 14 x 2
  • Side bar: 25 x 4 x 2
  • End block (limiter): 11 x 4 x 2
  • Wooden lath: 25 x 1 x 2
  • Roll-out rollers: 4 pcs with a maximum diameter of 4 cm (preferably non-rotatable with a rubber coating)
  • Cable channel: 25x2 (with minimum thickness)
  • Roller glass cutter
  • A little PVA glue and a handful of screws

Device assembly
We will start with the most difficult and jewelry stage of work - the assembly of the cutting mechanism. We take a wooden rail 25 x 1 x 2 and saw off two pieces from it, 3 cm long. In the resulting pieces of wood, carefully make through longitudinal holes. They will serve as grooves for installing the hinge, on which the guide with the glass cutter will go.

From the same rail, cut off another piece, 9-10 cm long, and arrange all the details as in the photo below. We cut the cover of the cable channel to a length equal to the size of three wooden parts (2 pieces of 3 cm each and a rail width of 2 cm), by about 8 centimeters.

In the next step, we fix the cutter on the guide. To do this, it is better to make a small recess at the end of the rail, which will serve as a kind of limiter for the glass cutter.

To prevent the wood from cracking when the self-tapping screw is screwed in, at the attachment point, a hole should be made in advance with a drill of a smaller diameter.

If on your self-tapping screw, as well as on the cutter with a photo, there are notches for breaking off glass, then you can use them for fastening. If there are no grooves, or they are located further than the cutting roller, then it is better to drill a mounting hole in the metal head. In general, the main thing is that the glass cutter is installed as in the photo.

After securing the cutter, it's time to assemble the structure together. To do this, we fasten two bars of 3 cm along the edges of the cable channel cover. In pre-prepared grooves in the bars, we twist self-tapping hinges, no more than 4 centimeters long (long ones can be cut off). We drill a through hole in the lower part of the guide rail, install it between the bars and fix it with self-tapping screws. In order for the rail to rise, its lower corner must be smoothed out with sandpaper or a file. Look at the photo and repeat.

Having finished with the design of the cutting mechanism, you can proceed to the assembly of the working platform of the future bottle cutter.
First of all, we attach a 25 x 4 x 2 side bar to the base. You can connect these parts with self-tapping screws by screwing them on the back of the base. You can also use PVA glue or epoxy.

When the side part is fixed, you can proceed to the installation of roll-out rollers. The first pair of wheels is installed at a distance of 3-4 cm from the top edge of the base. The next pair is located 12 cm down. For longer bottles, another set of holes can be prepared, 5 cm below the second pair of rollers. Pay attention to the photo.

The final stage of the assembly will be the fastening of the lower part of the cable channel to the edge of the side bar, and the landing of the end stop on self-tapping screws or glue.

With a slight movement of the hand, we attach the cover with the cutter to the base of the cable channel and the device is ready for use!

How to cut a bottle without a glass cutter

A compact bottle cutter is a very convenient device, but it is made for frequent use. What to do for those for whom this procedure is unique and will not be repeated in the next decade. It is expensive to buy a ready-made device, and it takes a long time to assemble it and it’s not a fact that it will turn out as it should. As you already understood, now we will talk about how to cut a bottle at home without a glass cutter.

This method of glass processing is based on heating with rapid cooling. For a sharp change in temperature, we need a meter of woolen thread, a flammable liquid (acetone, gasoline, kerosene, alcohol), a large container of ice water and, in fact, a bottle. Having prepared all the components, you can get down to business.

We dip the woolen thread into a container with a flammable liquid so that it is completely saturated, and wind it with a thin line at the place of the future chip. Next, we set fire to the thread and wait for it to completely burn out. While burning, we hold the bottle horizontally, and constantly rotate it so that the fire evenly heats the entire line. As soon as the flame goes out, immediately immerse the bottle in a prepared container of water. After a couple of seconds, a characteristic sound of broken glass will be heard, signaling the successful separation of the bottle. If there was no click in 5 seconds, you can apply a little force and try to break it.

The above technique can be successfully applied to the controlled breaking of most types of glass containers, but sometimes there are exceptions. The effectiveness of the temperature difference depends largely on the strength of the glass.

For those who want to see with a more illustrative example how to cut a glass bottle at home without a glass cutter, we recommend watching the following video.

Save this page to your social media. network and return to it at a convenient time.

In this publication, you will learn how to neatly and evenly or a jar using motor or vegetable oil.

We fill the dishes with cold water to the level where we want to make a cut. We place it in some container, which also needs to be filled with water to the level of water from the vessel. Now add oil to the bowl until a thin oil crust forms on the surface of the water, which will completely envelop the glass container.

The most important thing is that you should not pour oil straight from the bottle, because the film will turn out to be uneven and thus nothing will come of it.

Next, to carry out the procedure for cutting a bottle or jar, we will select a piece of metal. The thicker the glass we want to cut, the thicker the metal must be. The glass is quite thin, so the blade of a clerical knife fit perfectly. We heat it red-hot with a burner or gas stove.

Now we lower the hot blade into the bowl only to the oil level.

Remember to protect your skin and eyes from hot splashes!

Due to the rapidly incandescent film, the glass heats up, and due to the temperature difference it cracks. So we can carefully cut the glass bottle.

As you can see, the chip turned out perfectly even.

Hello dear readers! The decor of glass bottles has been quite popular lately, by the way, we have already considered this topic in the review “Bottles in the interior: they found a use for them!”, And since many are interested in the question of how to cut a glass bottle at home, without applications glass cutter, I want to dedicate today's master class to a simple but interesting way of cutting bottles with a thread ...

In this connection, the topic of this master class is “How to cut a bottle with a thread - nothing complicated!”.

For work we need:

  1. Glass bottle;
  2. Woolen threads;
  3. Solvent (you can kerosene, alcohol, cologne, acetone);
  4. Scissors or stationery knife;
  5. Gloves (will protect the skin of the hands from exposure to the solvent);
  6. Lighter or matches;
  7. To protect the eyes, just in case, goggles (in fact, there are no fragments, but caution is never superfluous);
  8. Deep basin filled with cold water.

So, how to cut a bottle with a thread? We take a woolen thread, measure and cut it in such a way that it is enough for 3-4 turns of the bottle.

We immerse the measured and cut thread in the solvent, and immediately wrap the bottle in the place where it is planned to make an “incision”. You can simply wrap the thread or tie it in a knot, in this master class I just wrapped it.

After that, we set fire to this thread with matches or a lighter, and it is better to keep the bottle in an inclined position - strictly horizontally (parallel to the ground), gently scrolling around the axis.

The fire will burn for about 30-40 seconds, as soon as the lit thread goes out - quickly lower the bottle into the prepared basin filled with cold water.

Next, the characteristic sound of cracked glass will be heard, and the bottle will instantly split into two parts. This type of glass cutting is based on a rapid change in temperature, we all know from the lessons of physics that glass expands when heated, and narrows when cooled, respectively, with a sharp change in temperature, a kind of destruction of glass occurs and it simply cracks!

We figured out how to cut a bottle with a thread, but how to process sharp glass edges? You can use sandpaper or stone to sharpen knives. Last, you should process the edges of the bottle, previously immersed in water, so the processing is easier and faster (it is better to protect your hands with rubber gloves). Friends, I ask you not to forget about the notorious safety precautions, after all you will work with fire and glass, goggles on your eyes, gloves on your hands and a basin with plenty of water are a must!
