Black plaster. Decorative plaster options: structural, textured, marble, Venetian, liquid wallpaper

Decorative plasters based on colored marble, granite or quartz chips. There are plain, colored and even mother-of-pearl.

Buildings and rooms, in the design of which there are marbled walls, create an impression of solidity, wealth, fascinate the eye with their pattern, producing an indelible aesthetic perception, despite the apparent "coldness" of the stone.

But decorative marble plaster is not only remarkable for its beauty, it is very practical in operation, so the demand for it will never end, despite the emergence of new worthy materials.

Composition and properties

Marble plaster is an elastic mixture of limestone and marble, resistant to cracking and conveying all the optical properties of the stone.

The decorative effect is obtained by adding polymer and pigment additives to the main component. The addition of granite to the mixture does not impair the qualities of marble plaster, but only enhances its strength.

The main properties of marble-granite plaster are:

  • lack of thermal expansion;
  • moisture resistance;
  • highest strength;
  • resistance to aggressive environments;
  • absence of chemical components, safety;
  • excellent vapor permeability;
  • good adhesion.

Application

Marble plaster is used everywhere, although its price is quite high. The scope of marble plaster is extensive: for interior and exterior decoration of premises, wherever the texture of marble will look most advantageous.

The frost resistance of some modifications of marble plaster allows the use of this coating in regions with low temperatures. The basis for applying decorative marble plaster can be:

  • brick;
  • stone;
  • drywall;
  • LSDP;
  • plywood;
  • wood.

The plasticity and excellent adhesion of the coating allows the plaster to be used for finishing geometrically complex surfaces, where patterns and patterns are used, which, in turn, leads to the creation of original ornaments and patterns.

You can make marble plaster with your own hands, or you can buy it ready-made and apply it using known methods, for example, a coarse-grained mixture is applied using the “wet on wet” method, when the area with the applied mixture should not dry before the next one is covered so that a joint and layers do not form were the same.

You can buy decorative marble plaster suitable for your interior or facade by reading the catalog of our company. We also offer services of professionals in applying decorative plasters. All questions are consulted by the managers of the company.

PREPARATION

For interior use, the preparation of walls must be carried out in accordance with SNiP for preparing walls for painting. Minor defects and scratches are not allowed. We draw your attention to the fact that the pronounced curvature of the walls and frequent deep defects will have a significant impact on the consumption of decorative material in a big way.

After priming the walls with a special reinforcing impregnation of deep penetration PRIMER NORMAL (after 4-6 hours), you can start applying the MARMORINO CARRARA decor itself.

The first layer should be applied with a thickness of 1-2 mm, leaving sags that form borders resembling natural stone veins. It is this technique, later, that will work as the basis for imitation of the veins of natural marble, so we recommend treating their projection with taste. Drying time of the first layer: 4-8 hours, then you can proceed to the second layer. Before applying the second coat, we recommend lightly (it is necessary to preserve the created sags and veins) sanding the surface with K1500 sandpaper in order to eliminate slight defects formed during the application of the first coating layer.

If you want to enhance the effect of the veins in the light side, then the first layer of MARMORINO CARRARA decorative plaster does not need to be tinted (just use the base white), but if you want to make the veins brighter, then the MARMORINO CARRARA material, for this (first) layer, should be tinted in a more saturated color than the main one - the color you have chosen. For advice or assistance in tinting, we recommend that you contact our authorized representatives or our company. We will gladly help you!

The second and third coats are applied using the classic Venetian method, using a rounded stainless steel trowel. The material should be applied thinly (almost on a strip) covering the entire surface. The second layer is not polished if there are subsequent ones, as it is necessary to maintain adhesion (cohesion) with the subsequent coating. polishing should be only the finishing (last layer). Polishing is done with the same tool (Venetian trowel), after 10-15 minutes. Since the material is mineral, therefore, with strong pressure on the trowel during polishing, the material may iron, which will be reflected on the decorated surface in the form of gray veins or spots. We recommend polishing without pressure and not to a perfectly glossy effect, as this technique aims to reveal the previous layers, which will reproduce the effect of the depth of the texture of natural marble.

Before applying additional topcoat METALLINE, the finished decorative coating must be completely dry - at least 24 hours. METALLINE is applied with an ordinary cellulose sponge, in a thin layer, completely covering the surface.

Time of full drying of a decorative covering: 24 hours.

For more detailed advice or a master class on application, we recommend that you contact our technical specialists or use the services of our salons.

Please note that the decorated walls must stand for at least 24 days before their initial cleaning.

What you should know about decorative plaster before buying

In many cases, decorative plaster in the kitchen is better than wallpaper. It is durable, wear-resistant, beautiful and effective. But if non-woven or vinyl wallpaper is easy to glue with your own hands, then applying plaster requires experience and skills. In addition, this material will cost significantly more than other types of finishes.

How decorative plaster will look on your walls depends on two things:

  • type, size and shape of filler. Usually it is a crumb of different types of natural stone. Cellulose or nylon fibers, synthetic granules, acrylic resins are added to some types of coating. It depends on the additives how grainy, grooved or embossed the plaster will be.
  • application techniques(vertically, horizontally, in circles, in one direction or in different, large strokes, etc.) and tools that you are using. The base layer of plaster is usually applied with an ordinary roller or trowel, and the relief pattern on the decorative layer is created with metal trowels, a natural sea sponge, an applicator swab, etc. From the same material, you can get a completely different texture.

If you bought an apartment in a new building, it is better to paste over the walls with textured non-woven or vinyl wallpaper with a relief surface. The first years the house will shrink: decorative plaster will quickly crack. But if desired, it can be restored.

If you are going to finish the walls in the kitchen with decorative plaster, think in advance what you will do with it when you want to update the interior. Dismantling plaster is a laborious process: it is cut off the wall with a grinder or a puncher. If this option does not suit you, the wall can be repainted in a new color. Or putty the relief surface (a more laborious way is to grind it with a grinder), and then level it for wallpaper or painting.

Types of decorative plaster for the kitchen

By type of base

In any large online store or building hypermarket, you will find four types of decorative plaster: acrylic, mineral, silicone and silicate.

Advice

    For wall decoration in the kitchen, it is better to choose acrylic decorative plaster. It is environmentally friendly, easily tinted in any shade, does not require an ideal base, dries quickly, moisture resistant. At the same time, it breathes and passes water vapor, is resistant to damage, is not afraid of wet cleaning and is not picky in care.

By design and application technique

There are a lot of texture and visual effects options for decorative plaster. Let's see which of them should be used for finishing the kitchen.

1. Decorative plaster under the stone

Who will suit: decorative Venetian plaster looks especially impressive in classic-style kitchens, art deco, modern and minimalism.

Aristocratic Venetian plaster perfectly imitates stone. It contains the smallest crumb of natural marble, onyx, granite, quartz, travertine, jasper, malachite and other types of natural stone. For example, marbled plaster consists of an acrylic base and marble dust.

There are a lot of ways to apply the Venetian: the texture can be smooth and silky or embossed and expressive. Her visiting card is beautiful play of shades, stone "veins" and "pearl" effect: the walls seem to glow from within.

2. Textured plaster for old walls (bark beetle, craquelure)

Who will suit: good, shabby chic, mediterranean style. It is appropriate in a modern or classic interior, as well as in a loft-style kitchen.

If you like textured embossed walls with a rough finish, decorative bark beetle plaster with grooves that mimic the look of bug-eaten wood is for you. The depth of the grooves can be different: the relief depends on the size of the filler and the application technique.

The photo below is an example of how bark beetle plaster was used to decorate walls in a kitchen of 8 square meters. meters in "stalinka" in combination with artificial stone:

Relief plaster with the effect of craquelure cracks beautifully when dried, and the wall is evenly covered with small colorful cracks. The coating can be combined with other types of plaster - for example, Venetian or Moroccan (they are applied over dried craquelure).

Some manufacturers offer finishing coatings with special granules: in the process of application, they burst and give the effect of noble attrition.

3. Decorative plaster for concrete

Who will suit: great choice, loft, minimalism or techno.

Plaster imitating concrete in the kitchen is often used not only for wall decoration, but also for a kitchen apron in the work area.

Advice:
The most reliable way to protect the decorative plaster on the backsplash without compromising the design of the kitchen is optiwhite, as in the photo below:

The traditional color of "concrete" walls is deep gray, uniform or with strokes of different shades of black or white, sometimes with imitation of characteristic whitish efflorescence, rust or metallic sheen.

Looking for something out of the ordinary? Take a closer look at tinted art concrete: it gives the effect of a concrete wall painted in a bright color, such as canary yellow or indigo.

There are many coating options - choose to your taste: for new or old concrete, smooth, corrugated or rough (interspersed with sand and fine stone chips), matte or with a slight sheen.

4. Sgraffito

A special technique for applying decorative plaster: craftsmen apply an even layer of coating on the wall, and then scratch a pattern or ornament on it using a stencil. Another option is to apply additional layers of coating over the stencil. In both cases, a convex spectacular pattern appears on the wall. It can be multi-color (in this case, several stencils are used).

Choose the color and texture of the finish

The larger the area of your kitchen, the more textured and embossed the plaster can be. In a small space, a smooth or fine-grained coating looks better.

  • The palette of colors is huge - about 2 thousand colors and shades. You can choose your favorite shade by eye from the catalog. But if you need to accurately match the tone of curtains, furniture or any other element of the interior, bring a sample to the store and experts will select the right shade.

You can buy decorative plaster in two forms. Usually this is a dry mix-base, which the seller tints in the color you need. Before applying to the walls, it is diluted with water to the desired consistency. Sometimes the topcoat is offered in the form of a paste.

Applying decorative plaster - 8 important nuances

  • Repair work on applying decorative plaster is more expensive than wallpapering a kitchen or painting: usually the cost of work is equated to the cost of the material. The average price in Moscow starts from 600-1500 rubles per square meter. The more complex the texture and application technique, the higher the price.
  • Do not skimp on the preparation and alignment of the walls. The smoother and more even the surface is, the more beautiful the texture will be.
  • Use a deep penetration primer: with it, the consumption of expensive plaster is significantly less. Plus, such compounds contain fungicides and antiseptics - they protect the walls from mold. Different types of primer are suitable for different types of plaster. Be careful when choosing: substances that are incompatible with each other will ruin an expensive finish.
  • The more textured the pattern and the deeper the relief, the more coverage will be required. Keep this in mind when planning your kitchen renovation budget. The average consumption of acrylic decorative plaster is 2.5-3 kg per square meter. But this is very conditional - be guided by the manufacturer's recommendations and the characteristics of the selected material.
  • It is optimal if two people work with the plaster. One applies the composition, the other follows him, distributes the mass over the surface and sets the relief. The coating hardens quickly, so you need to act quickly and deftly.
  • The movements of the tool on the surface can be different: short and long, transverse or longitudinal, smooth or rough. You can roll the roller on the wall in different directions or distribute the composition with your hands. An important point: the same person should work in the same room - then the wall decoration will turn out to be homogeneous.
  • Decorative plaster dries for at least two weeks. At this time, be especially careful with the wall (for example, when installing furniture) so as not to damage the coating.
  • So that the walls in the kitchen, covered with decorative plaster, do not lose their appearance, be sure to use protective waxes and acrylic varnishes. They significantly increase the moisture resistance of the finish, protect against cracks, extend its service life and create beautiful optical effects on the surface.

Manufacturers

Popular manufacturers of decorative plasters - Oikos, Novacolor, Srucco Veneziano, Valpaunt (Italy), Caparol, Knauf, Ceresit (Germany), Weber-Vetonit, Catteau (France), Terraco (Sweden), Bolars and Walls (Russia) and etc.

Even the simplest smooth decorative plaster immediately changes the appearance of the treated surface. But there are also textured and multi-layer coatings, where some are genuine works of art. But having mastered this technique, you can make such a lining in your own home. Let's still figure out what kind of plaster happens in general, learn the basics of the application technique, and also watch the video in this article.

Well-known plasters and their features

Note. Word "plaster" came into Russian from the Italian stucco, which means gypsum, lime or alabaster. However, cement and polymers are also currently used as binders.

Structural:

  • as a rule, structural plasters are represented by a “fur coat”, as in the top photo, and a “bark beetle”;
  • at the same time, coatings can have different grain sizes, but if for a “bark beetle” the grain fraction is from 0.6 mm to 3 mm, then even screenings up to 10 mm are used for a fur coat (in some cases even larger);
  • due to the plasticity of the ready-to-use mixture, the granules present there, forms a certain relief (which you specify), for example, decorative plaster with a stone effect.

Textured:

  • textured decorative rustic plaster is not used as often as structural, and this, however, is not surprising, since, despite its apparent simplicity, certain skills are needed here;
  • basically you buy a white elastic mass, which can be tinted with any color, or painted after application to the surface;
  • here it is possible to create a variety of effects according to the principle of bas-relief, panels and the like, for example, decorative American plaster.

Marble:

  • such a mixture is made from white Portland cement, lime hydrate, marble granulate (screenings) and mineral aggregates;
  • of course, this is a washable decorative plaster and can be used not only for interior work, but also for building facades, where it can also serve as a heater;
  • Adheres to most building materials such as concrete, asbestos cement, drywall, fiber cement, plywood, fiberboard, chipboard and OSB.

Venetian:

  • let's say right away that this is a type of coverage that is different from all, and its price can be 400 rubles or more;
  • it has a classic composition, it is slaked lime as a binder, marble or quartz dust, as well as organic and inorganic (acrylic) dyes;
  • in ancient times, instead of inorganic dyes, natural clay was added, and it is this composition that is considered classical, although optional;
  • the elitism of such decoration is confirmed by the fact that the room turns into a real palace, imitating marble, lapis lazuli, jasper, malachite and so on;
  • in addition, craquelure is possible here - this is an antique decorative plaster that creates the effect of a cracked surface.

  • another fairly well-known and accustomed in the countries of the former USSR decorative plaster with a velvet effect is the so-called liquid wallpaper;
  • in stores they are sold packaged in bags, the contents of which must be diluted with water before use;
  • the composition of such a substance includes silk and / or cellulose fibers, natural fungicides, special dyes, plasticizers, adhesive binders, as well as mica, mineral chips, sparkles or mother-of-pearl - this is a soft decorative plaster.

Some application methods

Note. Below you are offered instructions for several options for finishing with decorative plasters. Using these technologies as an example, you can get the basic concepts of how to apply a decorating layer with your own hands.

Desan Rustic: texture "Cosmos" and "Mazanka"

First of all, after you have opened the bucket with the Desan Rustic mixture, its contents must be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous elastic substance is obtained (for other mixtures, water can be added, if necessary, of course).

To work, you will need one narrow (blade width up to 100 mm), and another wide spatula from 200 mm or more, or it can also be a wide metal bevel. The surface for the proposed treatment must be cleaned of dust, dirt and / or grease, and also primed to increase adhesion.

It will be more convenient for you to get the solution out of the bucket with a narrow spatula and apply it to a wider tool or to a bevel, as in the top photo, and then transfer the contents to the surface to be treated. At the moment, your task is to apply the mixture evenly, without creating any relief.

After leveling the plane with the Desan Rustic mixture, take a woolen or mohair paint roller, moisten it, and roll the fresh surface in different directions, creating a fine-grained chaotic relief.

Here it is very important that the solution does not begin to set and, although this does not happen very quickly, such a change in the relief of the plane should not be postponed for more than an hour. In hard-to-reach places, such as the corners and the area at various risers, it should be tamponed with a hair brush, trying to create a uniform texture.

Immediately, the relief you will get is not very flat, that is, the mixture will stretch behind the roller or brush, leaving in some places something similar to miniature mountain peaks. Therefore, after creating the relief, press it lightly with a spatula or a small one (light smoothing). After 24 hours (complete drying), sand the surface with sandpaper so that it is not scratchy and then cover with a primer (preferably from the same manufacturer) - this will reduce absorbency.

Now, after the primer has dried, we apply a layer of Desan Luminins decor varnish (you can, of course, use other paintwork materials, but it’s better to stick to the product line from one manufacturer). Before you let the varnish dry, you need to wipe it with a damp foam sponge, but it will quickly become dirty, so the sponge should be soaked in water each time and wring it out well. In order to achieve a more saturated color, the varnish should be applied two or more times (depending on the required contrast).

To create the "Mazanka" texture, you need to follow the same steps that you performed for the "Cosmos" up to and including applying a smooth layer. In this case, you can even leave such a smoothed surface until the next day, if circumstances force you to - you still have to do the final stage of plastering.

Now, we put a little bit of the solution on the malka, and with chaotic movements, somewhere solid, and somewhere intermittent, we put on the top, textured layer (some even manage to create real paintings in this way). After completion, leave the unfinished finish for 24 hours to dry completely, and then sand with fine sandpaper. In the future, everything again happens according to the same scheme - applying a primer and varnish with rubbing it with a damp sponge - this is how you get the texture "Mazanka".

Marmarine Maxi - texture "under the bark of a tree"

And now let's look at how decorative wood-effect plaster is made with a bark effect, and for this we will use the Marmarine Maxi mixture, although you can use plaster from any other manufacturer - this is unprincipled.

The application technique here is very similar to the same "Mazanka" - first you need to make a flat surface - for this you apply the first layer, only here it is advisable to immediately go over with a paint roller, creating a "shagreen" base. After drying, apply the top thin layer with longitudinal strokes (preferably at an angle of 45⁰ - so more beautiful) - this is how a discontinuous texture of the bark is created.

After a few hours (depending on the temperature and humidity of the air in the room), making sure that the plaster has begun to dry, smooth it with a metal spatula. This move replaces sanding with sandpaper, that is, you can do it this way and that - it will not affect the final result, but smoothing the still dry surface with a spatula is much faster.

And now everything is happening according to a similar scenario with “Cosmos” and “Mazanka”, only here we use two colors and we apply a golden tint as the first layer - you can, for example, use Metallic Farbe. After complete drying, apply with a brush a glossy azure, for example, Tikkurila or Valtti Aquacolor, but at the same time rub it with the same sponge (the number of layers of azure depends on your desire).

As a result, you get just such a wall or ceiling, a sample of which you see in the top photo.

Conclusion

There are many more methods of application, and some of them are exclusive, that is, developed by the masters themselves. If you want to suggest something new or ask a question - do it in the comments.

Decorative plaster has recently gained incredible popularity due to the large number of its advantages compared to banal wallpaper and other boring finishing materials for walls. With the help of decorative plaster, you can create an incredible number of author's decorative effects, create original textured drawings and ornaments. The ancestor of all decorative plasters - Venetian plaster is designed to decorate classic interiors, recreate the atmosphere of Ancient Italy or imitate the surface of natural polished marble.
Decorative plaster, which can be bought on the modern market, is a huge number of “descendants” of the famous Venetian, often surpassing its ancestor not only in beauty and breadth of textures and patterns created, but also in performance, thanks to its innovative composition. Decorative plaster master

Naturally, how high-quality the created decorative coating will be depends on the qualifications, experience, creativity, and individuality of the person who creates it. An experienced master for applying decorative plaster (applicator) in his reserve has not only extensive knowledge about the material used and the nuances of its application. It can also have its own unique application technology, which results in absolutely unique masterpieces. Artistic plaster, made by the hand of a true master, is always individual and original. The appearance of the decorated wall depends on the structure of the material used, as well as on what tools were used during the work. And the promised durability and strength of the decorative wall covering is guaranteed only if the application technology has not been violated.

Types of decorative plaster

Decorative plaster for walls can be quite diverse. Depending on the composition, the following types can be distinguished: lime, acrylic, vinyl, silicone, gypsum and silicate.
It is on the composition that the operational characteristics of the coating primarily depend: the possibility of wet cleaning and the possibility of using it in rooms with high humidity, resistance to abrasion and mechanical stress.

Let's try to help you choose...

Mineral decorative plaster

has high air permeability, antibacterial properties (resists the formation of mold), resistant to abrasion and mechanical stress. Minus - it freely passes water and when exposed to moisture, without additional protection, it can collapse. However, when the lime base is protected with a Velature type siloxane-based decorative glazing coating, the mineral wall plaster acquires water-repellent properties and becomes especially durable, suitable for use on facades and in areas with increased operational load. It should be especially noted that for unheated rooms with fluctuations in humidity and temperature, prone to the formation of fungus and mold, the mineral base of the wall covering is ideal.
Such particularly durable decorative plasters include Marmo Antico, Marmo Fragile, Shamotte, Petra Marmorino Intonacino Minerale, Teodorico, Mappa.
Mineral plasters are most vulnerable in the first four weeks after application, until carbonization (complete drying) has occurred. It should be noted that, thanks to modern production technologies and special additives, some of the “mineral waters” (such as Marmorino Classico, Grassello di calce) after complete drying become quite durable, wash well and serve for many years without additional protection.

Acrylic decorative paint and plaster

has water-repellent properties, forms a dense "impenetrable" protection of painted walls, as a rule, is elastic, quite often it can be restored in fragments. However, if the integrity of the coating is violated, "impenetrability" loses its relevance. Therefore, in rooms where the walls are “not settled”, or are subject to dynamics due to some reason, only restored acrylic plasters should be used.
Finishing with decorative plaster of this type is most popular among modern buyers due to the wide variety of decorative effects that can be obtained with it. Depending on all kinds of structural additives, acrylic-based decorative plasters in the skillful hands of the craftsman can:
become voluminous, acquire elasticity - Rilievo;
· shimmer with delicate shades like silk - Cadoro or silk velvet - Cadoro velvet;
· turn into suede - Celestia;
· remind the sunny desert or fit into the strict hi-tech - Marcopolo, Africa;
imitate the pattern of polished marble - Grasselo di Calce, etc.
Quite often, acrylic decorative plaster forms a thin film on the painted surface with a delicate, light pattern, which is why it is often called "decorative wall paints".

Vinyl decorative plaster

based on vinyl polymers, such as Tamstucco, Wallstucco has excellent plasticity, clearly conveys the finest details of textured rollers, tampons, and even fern or maple leaves imprinted into it. With the help of these compositions, the finest decorative coatings with a complex texture are created, but only in the skillful hands of the applicator.

Silicone decorative plaster

Special attention deserves decorative plaster based on siloxane or silicone, which combines all the best qualities of decorative plaster: moisture resistance, resistance to mechanical stress, temperature and humidity changes. Wall decoration with paint of this type is often used in combination with mineral plaster in order to give it an additional decorative effect and moisture resistance. To date, silicone decorative plaster and paint is the best finishing material in this group of Classic, Velature, Acrysil decora. The Acrysil acrylic-siloxane series of facade plasters is by far the best solution for facades in climatic zones with temperature and humidity fluctuations.
The high cost of silicone plaster and paint is a delusion, for example, silicone decorative plaster, the price of which will pleasantly surprise you - Classic, silicone decorative paintVelature is available to everyone.
Decorative plaster photo samples of which you will find in the catalog on our website is very diverse. The cost is low with high quality, since the largest production in the industry in Italy can bring high-tech products to the market at a reasonable price.
