Do-it-yourself carriage hauling. Do-it-yourself carriage screed - the imperial finish is available to everyone. Woven capitonné fabric

France is considered the birthplace of the carriage screed. Thus, in a modern interior, walls are finished, and various furniture in lounges or bedrooms. Thanks to this finish, the height of the ceiling visually increases, and the room acquires an unusual style. For such a finish, eco-leather or fabric for upholstery is used. Consider step by step instructions on how to make a carriage coupler yourself.

Characteristics of the carriage tie

The carriage screed is associated with luxury, in ancient times it was sheathed in the carriages of kings, such walls were made in almost all rich houses.
In a modern interior, such upholstery is also found in expensive houses, and carries with it a special luxury. Capitone can be done independently, without resorting to outside help. The screed is distinguished by three types, it can be in the form of rhombuses, squares or a complex shape, the geometry of which changes from bottom to top.
Buttons are considered the main elements, they can be made varied. Rhombuses and squares can be made in different sizes, as well as in depth, it depends on how wide the foam rubber is.
The carriage screed is easy to maintain, and if it is used on the walls, it provides reliable sound insulation.

Upholstery material and buttons

For upholstery, you should not choose a thin fabric, as it can tear from the pressure of the buttons. It is very important to select the thickness of the elastic lining, the correct shape of the pattern depends on it. Furniture-looking buttons are well suited for carriage fasteners in large rooms, in small rooms it is better to use carnations, they are selected for this interior.
The material will be durable depending on its quality, you should not buy the cheapest canvas. Natural and durable materials are great for carriage ties.

  1. Wear-resistant is chenille, it is one of the natural materials.
  2. Jacquard also looks great, this fabric has large patterns, and is able to keep the folds well in a given shape.
  3. The most durable material is genuine leather or eco-leather, it is also considered to be resistant to wear.
  4. A large variety of colors and shades is distinguished by flock, such a fabric is fleecy.
  5. Velor can be used to create deeper folds.

Instructions for making a carriage tie

  1. First you need to prepare the plywood, and markup. First, the plywood is given the desired shape, then marked out, and holes are made in it.
  2. Glue is applied on top of the plywood, and then foam rubber is glued.
  3. After that, the markup is performed on foam rubber, this can be done with an ordinary simple pencil. For these purposes, it is better not to use a marker, as it can leave prints on the fabric.
  4. A Zifendorf is put on the drill, and holes are made, the excess foam rubber is removed immediately.
  5. A synthetic winterizer is glued onto the foam rubber with the same glue.
  6. Then the markings are performed on the outer upholstery, that is, on fabric or leather, while up to 8 centimeters recede from the edge, thus creating an allowance.
  7. Marking is carried out according to a pre-prepared stencil made of cardboard, paper is applied from the wrong side, and dots are placed. All holes must match, for this the markup must be verified.
  8. Threads are threaded into the marked sections of the tightening. Then all the threads in the first row are pulled into the foam with a needle and a special hook, and they are also fixed to the plywood with a stapler.
  9. The edge of the material is turned inside out, and the threads are inserted again to form the next row. The necessary folds are formed, and nailed with a stapler.
  10. The folds are corrected with a special stick, so they form one row after another.
  11. The surface is carefully checked for distortions, if all the folds lie evenly, then you can start fastening the buttons. This is done from the middle to the edges.
  12. When all the folds from the edges are fixed, the corner is fixed, that is, the final fixation of the last edge.

For independent work, you need a crochet hook, a drill for making holes in plywood, a knife, a drill, and a Ziefenorf nozzle. With all the tools and materials, the work is done very quickly.

How to make your own buttons

If there is difficulty with the selection of buttons in the same tone with the fabric, then they can be made independently. To do this, upholstery fabric must be taken with a margin. Buttons must have a metal loop, otherwise they cannot withstand the load and break.

  • First, we prepare a small piece of material for a button in the form of a rectangle.
  • The edges of the prepared fabric are rounded, while the diameter of the hole should remain about twice as large as the button. For rounding, a screed is performed around the entire perimeter of the workpiece, using a needle and a strong thread.
  • Then, a button is inserted into the resulting hat, and the thread is firmly pulled together, after which the element is considered sheathed. From the outside, the button has an attractive appearance, and the same color with the surface.

Basic requirements for the implementation of the screed

Such a finish is performed if there is the necessary money to purchase high-quality fabric, otherwise you can get a short-lived, and not entirely attractive surface. The fabric should have a dense structure so that holes do not appear during the screed.
Sheathing should fit the overall style of the room, so the choice of material is approached with great care. Colors can be different, there are various shades on the modern market, this allows you to choose the material for any interior.

Thin fabrics are usually not used, as they cannot withstand the pressure exerted by the buttons. If such a fabric breaks, then the funds for its acquisition will be wasted. In order for the pattern to be uniform, pay attention to the thickness of the elastic lining. It should have good density.
When choosing carnations or buttons, you must consider the size of the room. For large rooms, buttons to match the surface or large carnations are used; in small rooms, these elements should be of medium size.

Buttons must be strong and have metal loops; plastic elements cannot withstand such a tie and may burst. Before starting work, you can perform a trial action on a small area of plywood, from improvised materials, after which proceed to the main production of capitonné.
Before starting work, it is necessary to prepare all materials and tools. To make holes, use a drill with a special nozzle, and drills.

For self-production of a carriage tie, it is important to choose the right material, and nails or buttons that fit the interior. Thus, they finish the head of the bed, furniture, walls, ottomans or other items in the room, it depends on the owner's imagination. With the right work done, you can get the original surface, and the extraordinary luxury of the room. This is how a variety of original interiors are created. The carriage coupler came to us from other countries, and ancient times, and is also used in modern styles.

Carriage screed: do-it-yourself bed or royal bed

The decor of furniture and other interior items, referred to as "Carriage coupler", has existed for more than a hundred years. According to legend, this is how the carriages of the highest nobility got off. A bed with a quilted headboard looks luxurious and can transform even an ordinary Khrushchev bedroom. Let's take a closer look at the whole process of creating such beauty at home, and go through everything from choosing a style to important details in installation.

Decor Capito and its types

According to historians, quilted trim appeared in Europe in the first half of the 19th century, initially it served for the interior decoration of carriages, but over time “migrated” to the interior of bedrooms, living rooms and children’s rooms. In the West, this type of soft facing is known as "Capitone", we call it "Carriage coupler".

The soft finish "Capitone" is universal, any furniture, walls, doors and even the ceiling are draped in this way. There is an opinion that a bed with a quilted headrest fits only into classical styles, however, a carriage tie is in perfect harmony with loft, modern, pop art and other modern trends.

Quilted furniture is now presented in a wide range, but the price is solid. A crib, a small ottoman or a kitchenette can cost as much as a full-fledged double bed in a budget finish, such a paradox is caused by a large amount of handmade work.

I am glad that it is really possible to make a carriage tie with your own hands, and for this it is not necessary to have sky-high professionalism and an expensive tool, if desired, even a novice master can do such work. But first you need to decide on the type of finish, there are 3 options:

Illustrations Recommendations

Diamond or wedge tie.

The pattern consists of a series of identical rhombuses.

It is advisable for a novice master to dwell on rhombuses of the correct shape. Mounting a "squeezed" wedge rhombus with sharp wedges requires some experience.

Square tie.

As the name implies, the ornament here has the shape of a square. It is easier to work with regular shapes, so a square is considered the best option for an amateur.

Ornament with diverse geometry.

This section includes the arrangement of furniture with complex, rounded geometry and beds with a figured headboard. Not every master undertakes such work and there is nothing for an amateur to do here.

Style Features

It is impossible to confuse a carriage tie with any other finish, here even an amateur clearly sees the differences.

  • The main hallmark of the “Capitone” style is a symmetrical repeating ornament of buttons recessed into the panel, which are interconnected by even folds. The depth and size of the pattern depend on the thickness of the foam filler.

Keep in mind - a real carriage tie is equipped by creating folds between the buttons on a solid canvas, the work is done manually. There are swindlers on the market who sew or glue small flaps and then pass off this fake as Capito.

  • Contrary to popular belief, the presence of buttons is not necessary for the “Capitone” style, but it is the carriage tie with buttons in the recesses that is considered a classic.
  • In all products there is a repeating symmetrical ornament. Even in furniture with complex geometries, the correct shapes are visible at a glance.

Where do we start

Before developing the shape of the frame and starting fasteners, you need to decide on the type of upholstery material and the design of the buttons, because it depends on how luxurious the furniture will look.

Choice of fabric and buttons

Not every material is suitable for arranging a carriage tie. When the master performs the contraction of the sectors, the canvas experiences heavy loads, plus subsequently the upholstery is under constant stress.

Illustrations Recommendations

chenille.

Wear-resistant canvas belonging to the line of natural fabrics.

Jacquard.

The fabric is distinguished by a deliberately large pattern with a claim to luxury. One of the features of jacquard is the easy arrangement of folds.

Only a professional is able to work with jacquard, an amateur will not be able to calculate puffs so as not to move the pattern.

folk.

Artificial upholstery fabric with a slight hairiness. It has a large range of colors.

Velours.

Another member of the fleecy fabric community. Velor is more expensive than folk, but the canvas is softer and easier to work with.

Leather.

Previously, fine leather was used for the manufacture of such furniture, but such material is expensive and now manufacturers have switched to eco-leather. In fact, eco-leather is a high-quality, elastic leatherette that visually resembles natural leather.

It is advisable for a novice master to choose eco-leather, it is affordable and easy to use.

Buttons in the carriage tie are traditionally considered classics. The design of products is the most diverse, ranging from the base sheathed with upholstery to rhinestones. A separate niche is occupied by the so-called carnations, the latest hit is the use of LEDs.

People who are far from the “Capitone” arrangement technology believe that puffs are made with buttons, but this is a mistake, tightening is done with strong threads, and buttons or studs are inserted at the last stage and have an exclusively decorative function.

Plastic buttons are not suitable for these purposes, they quickly break under constant load, therefore products with a metal eye and a base are used for carriage ties. There are enough similar goods on the market, but it can be difficult to choose the color and texture, so it makes sense to sew a button yourself.

Making your own buttons

Illustrations Recommendations

Blanks.

In a store with furniture fittings, you need to buy metal blanks for buttons, take it with a margin.

According to the rules, the buttons are covered with the same material from which the furniture will be made.

Cut out the canvas.

A circle is cut out of the upholstery fabric or leather, the diameter of which is 2 times the diameter of the metal blank.

We flash the perimeter.
Making a button.

After flashing the “penny” around the perimeter, you will get a kind of basket. Insert the workpiece into this basket, then tighten and tie the missed thread.

Plywood and tool

First you need to prepare all the necessary material and tools, there are many options, we will focus on the traditional one.

  • For the manufacture of the headrest of the bed, I recommend taking plywood of the FC brand with a thickness of 10 mm or more, by the way, plywood 6–8 mm thick is sufficient for the manufacture of facing boards with a carriage screed.

In order to reduce the cost, some manufacturers are trying to use chipboard for head restraints, I don’t advise you to do this, firstly, the chipboard is dense, and secondly, furniture brackets do not hold well in it. Alternatively, you can take MDF with a thickness of 12 mm.

  • We will make a carriage tie from eco-leather. When purchasing, please note that the canvas is taken at least half a meter more than plywood, and from all sides along the perimeter. If the buttons are made by hand, then count the canvas on them too.
  • For the bed, furniture foam rubber 50 mm thick is taken.
  • Batting or synthetic winterizer.
  • Glue for gluing foam rubber to plywood, preferably in an aerosol can.
  • Furniture stapler, you can work mechanically, but it is better to take pneumatics.
  • Thick nylon cord.
  • Scissors.
  • Drill with 8 mm drill.
  • Nozzle on the drill "Zifendorf"

Stages of work

Illustrations Recommendations
We create holes.

Stage 1.

It is possible to draw markings directly on plywood, but it is better to make a stencil from thick paper, because this marking will be needed more than once, and with a stencil you will save a lot of time.

The standard distance between puffs is 100 - 150 mm.

Stage 2.

Now, using a stencil, mark the locations of the puffs and drill 8-10 mm holes at these points.

Good support is important here, wooden goats are the best option, only the upper crossbars must be covered with fabric.

Foam rubber and batting.

Step 1.

Now we take the same stencil and transfer the markings to the foam rubber plate, but we don’t drill yet.

To drill round holes in foam rubber, there is a Zifendorf nozzle, but it is expensive. It is cheaper to buy a furniture conductor, attach an adapter to it and sharpen the tube around the circumference, as in the photo on the left.

Step 2.

It is more economical to apply glue from a spray gun, while taking a nozzle of 1.5 - 1.7 mm. In the absence of an airbrush, you can take glue in an aerosol can.

As a last resort, take ordinary glue and apply it with a brush or roller, however, the consumption is more. Especially carefully lubricate the area and around the holes.

Step 3.

We glue the foam rubber and wrap the shield with synthetic winterizer or batting. I prefer to use synthetic winterizer, it is easier to work with.

Step 4.

Now it's time for the conductor to drill holes for the buttons. Take out the sticks one by one and drill holes in the center.

Beautiful furniture can decorate any interior and create a cozy atmosphere even with a simple wall decoration. In the bedroom, the carriage bed looks chic and emphasizes the sophistication of the chosen style. Given the rather high cost of the finished product, a voluminous headboard can be made independently at home. The bed will become a real highlight of the room, it will look cozy, rich and elegant.

The carriage screed has been known for a long time. Back in the middle of the 19th century, expensive carriages were decorated in this way. The screed symbolized wealth, luxury. This method of decoration was used mainly for royal chic products. Capitone (as the carriage screed is also called), has also found application in the design of walls and upholstered furniture. The most famous example made in this technique is the classic Chesterfield sofa or Karelia bed 160x200.

After some time, the capitone lost its popularity. However, recently such decor has returned to fashion. Modern apartments are decorated in this technique. It can be walls, chairs, headboards, and many other interior items. Furniture with a carriage tie looks elegant and comfortable. Some believe that such beds can only be suitable for a classic style. But products made using this technique will perfectly fit into modern, pop art, kitsch and modern room design.

You can choose a bed with a carriage screed in a furniture store or decorate the head of the bed yourself. This does not require special knowledge, a novice master can handle it. A little effort and patience will do the trick. The bed will be transformed, it will look elegant. Before starting work, it is necessary to decide which type of capitonné decor is suitable.

Carriage screed is of several types:

  • Rhomboid;
  • square;
  • Complex, with changing geometry.

Expensive, beautiful material, as well as used buttons, rhinestones, crystals, LEDs, give a special chic, elegance to pieces of furniture.

Style Features

Beds with carriage screed in the interior have the following features:

  • Characteristic folds - the most important difference between the capitone is in them. They are formed between the buttons, forming rhombuses or squares of different depths and sizes, which depend on the thickness of the foam rubber;
  • Buttons, carnations - there are a wide variety of designs and are also a distinctive feature of the carriage tie;
  • Refinement and elegance - the capitonné technique transforms pieces of furniture due to spectacular folds, expensive material and original buttons. In one room, with the help of a carriage tie, you can arrange several armchairs, chairs and sofas. You can independently choose the material and color of the upholstery that you like, suitable for the overall design of the room;
  • Durability, reliability - such furniture is not difficult to care for, it is durable. Dust can be swept away with a special brush or removed with a vacuum cleaner. Volumetric upholstery, if necessary, change to a new one.

DIY headboard decoration

The carriage bed will be a great addition to any style bedroom. It is quite possible to create a beautiful headboard yourself, for this you need to prepare all some tools and materials. Upholstery fabric, fittings, other items are always available, they can be easily found in hardware stores.

Material

The first step is to decide on the type of fabric and its shade. When choosing a material, it is recommended to pay attention to the following points:

  1. The fabric must be strong enough. Thin upholstery may not withstand the load and after a while begin to tear;
  2. It is recommended to give preference to plain fabrics. The fact is that a floral print or any other ornament will be partially hidden in the folds characteristic of the capitonné technique. Monochromatic material will look more harmonious and refined;
  3. You can't skimp on upholstery materials. To make the headboard really reliable and last for many years, you need a quality canvas. Genuine leather or eco-leather, furniture velvet or other durable luxury material is used;
  4. For the manufacture of the headboard using the capitonné technique, you can choose one of the following types of fabrics:
  • Jacquard - looks rich, great for folds, keeps its shape, has a large pattern;
  • Chenille is a natural material that is durable;
  • Flock - a huge selection of colors, fabric with a small pile;
  • Genuine leather - durable, looks luxurious;
  • Eco-leather - perfectly keeps its shape on the folds, quite soft, wear-resistant;
  1. As a substrate, sheet foam rubber is used, with a thickness of at least 5 cm.

Leather

Buttons

Buttons for the carriage tie are selected depending on the design of the room and the style of the piece of furniture itself. A variety of carnations look beautiful with colored rhinestones or hats decorated with carvings. You can even install LEDs, it will be unusual and very impressive.

It is not always possible to match the buttons to the color or style of the furniture. In this case, they can be made by hand. As an option, sheathe the buttons with a fabric that is similar in tone and texture to the headboard upholstery material.

Buttons come in different types, may differ in color, shape, size. It is important that they are with a metal eyelet. Such buttons withstand loads, do not break. Plastic eyelets are less durable and are not suitable for carriage ties.

Stages of work

To make the process of making a bed with a carriage screed faster, it is recommended that you first prepare all the necessary materials and tools.

You will need:

  • Plywood - acts as a base from which the headboard of the selected shape is cut;
  • Foam rubber - its thickness should be at least 5 cm. Foam rubber is needed in the same shape as plywood;
  • Fabric - it should be 0.5 cm wider than plywood, and also 30 cm longer. The remainder will go to button trim;
  • Glue - needed to attach the foam rubber to the headboard;
  • Buttons - the most durable and durable of them - with metal eyelets;
  • A synthetic winterizer - it is needed to cover the foam rubber from above.
  • Drill;
  • Drill;
  • Furniture stapler;
  • Cord for buttons;
  • Crochet hook;

Instruments

For people who do not have experience in this type of work, it is recommended to use step-by-step instructions, diagrams. In this case, the carriage screed will turn out to be more accurate, even and will transform the furniture beyond recognition. In order to cover the head of the bed using the carriage tie technique, you must perform the following steps:

  1. The first step is to make a sketch. On paper, they draw different options for how the upholstered surface of the headboard might look like;
  2. After choosing the most suitable option, proceed to the pattern. To do this, a fragment is cut out of a sheet of cardboard of the required size. It must match the headboard;
  3. Draw vertically and horizontally directed parallel lines. A distance of 10 cm is maintained between them. In this case, squares are obtained with a given side;
  4. At the points where the lines intersect, mark the places where carnations or buttons will be installed in the future. Then connect them with lines. If everything is done correctly, diamonds (squares) are obtained;
  5. At the tops make holes for buttons;
  6. Next, proceed to the assembly of the base. Take a sheet of plywood and cut out the desired shape corresponding to the size of the furniture;
  7. Foam rubber of the same shape is glued to plywood, waiting for the glue to dry completely;
  8. Next, make the markup using a pattern. With a felt-tip pen, pencil or marker, outline the contours of the holes that are made in cardboard;
  9. According to the existing marks, holes are drilled with a drill. Their diameter should be 1-1.5 cm;
  10. The synthetic winterizer is placed on top of the foam rubber and the same holes are made on it;
  11. Cover the headboard with fabric.

The secret of a beautiful and elegant bed with a carriage screed lies in the correct upholstery technique. In no case should the fabric be twisted or pulled together. In this case, the upholstery will be uneven.

Next, proceed to the installation of buttons (studs, rhinestones). To do this, you need to find holes through the stretched material and make small holes in their place. A drill with a thin drill will help with this. Cords are then attached to buttons or studs with rhinestones. From the wrong side, they need to be pulled out with a hook or needle and fixed firmly with a furniture stapler. If decorative nails are used, then they are carefully driven into the base. Both should be at the same depth in the upholstery fabric. After the work is done, it remains only to carefully align all the folds with a stick or crochet.

The final step will be the installation of the fasteners necessary for a solid installation of the headboard on the furniture. On the wrong side, hooks or brackets are made. Next, with their help, attach the headboard to the bed frame. If you want to update old wooden furniture in this way, then you can use the "native" headboard. The main condition will be the absence of decorative carvings and other relief decor.

Making a bed with a carriage screed on your own should not take much time. The materials used in the process of work are available. All the nuances can always be seen in master classes explaining how to make a headboard using the capitonné technique. You can upholster other furniture in this way. For example, a pouffe, an armchair, a bench or a sofa. Spectacular interior items will complement the design of the room, make its image more complete and elegant.

Finished work

A photo

For any interior, it is very important how the walls are finished. There are many ways to decorate walls, but carriage screed is becoming increasingly popular. It is a three-dimensional surface on which you can depict a variety of very attractive drawings. Such drawings are made using nails, which are topped with decorative hats (buttons can be used in this regard). If there is a question of choice, then in a large room it is recommended to give preference to buttons.

The carriage screed on the walls adds sophistication to the kitchen, and it's also nice to lean on the soft surface of the wall during lunch.

It is noteworthy that do-it-yourself carriage screed can be done without much difficulty.

Foam rubber of the required thickness is glued to a sheet of plywood or chipboard.

When the carriage screed of the walls is performed, the outer side can be made of natural fabric, artificial leather and any fabric with sufficient density can be used for this purpose.

As for the color, you can choose almost any, which is why the carriage wall screed is so popular among fans of the original design.

In order to make a carriage screed with your own hands, you need to make a lot of effort. There is nothing particularly complicated in this matter, but you must be careful, do everything clearly according to the instructions, and then everything will work out at the highest level.

We mark the places of attachment of buttons.

You will need to stock up on such tools:

  1. Hammer.
  2. stapler.
  3. Electric drill.
  4. Roulette.
  5. Scissors.

Instructions for action

Drill holes with a drill.

  1. It is very important to note that the panel on which it is planned to create a carriage coupler is created separately from the wall. As a basis, you can use a wide variety of materials that are sheets. It can be plywood, chipboard and MDF. The panel must be adjusted to the required dimensions, after which a sheet of foam rubber is glued to it. The use of nitroglue for these purposes is absolutely unacceptable, since it has the property of corroding all the material. In this regard, it is best to use rubber glue, which is based on rubber. Glue must be applied to the panel and to the foam rubber in 2 layers. It must be taken into account that the next layer of adhesive should be applied only after the first layer is completely dry.
  2. After applying the second layer, the foam rubber is securely attached to the panel (this may take 6 hours), it is necessary to apply pattern templates to the materials, which are made using thick paper. Holes are cut out on the template, they need to be drawn with a pencil on the foam surface. Then you need to mark the places on the material, drill holes with the appropriate tool (the tool should have one or two cutting blades).
  3. When all the holes are prepared, the foam rubber must be covered with a padding polyester. Where there are holes in the foam rubber, you need to make holes in the padding polyester. After that, the resulting structure should be covered with a pre-selected material, it must also be fixed on the inside of the panel with a stapler. The material must be stretched with maximum evenness, there should be no wrinkles, but compression should also not be allowed.

We stretch the fabric and use a drill to drill holes in it.

Today, this method of decoration, which has another name - capitone, is used to decorate upholstered furniture and interiors in private houses, apartments, theaters, clubs, restaurants.

This material will help you master this art.

What is a carriage tie?

This method of decoration was used in the eighteenth century. At that time, carriages were decorated in this way. Hence the name itself. Today it is used for upholstery of furniture or interior items. In this case, materials such as leather, velvet, as well as buttons covered with the same material are used, which are recessed into the soft part.

In order for the interior items decorated in the capitonné style to really fascinate with their beauty, the fabric must be selected appropriately. Let it be a rich material that looks interesting in numerous folds.

The carriage tie can be diamond-shaped or square; LEDs and crystals are sometimes used instead of buttons.

The capitonné technique is quite accessible for self-mastery. You yourself can arrange furniture in this technique. Consider it on the example of making a headboard.

Required materials and tools:

plywood of the desired shape (can be unusual);
- beautiful, high-quality fabric (half a meter wider and longer than plywood);
- foam rubber 5 cm thick (according to the size of plywood);
- glue for foam rubber;
- stapler for furniture;
- buttons covered with the same fabric (see);
- durable cord for attaching buttons;
- Crochet hook;
- a sharp knife or drill with a tsifenbor nozzle;
- drill for drilling holes in plywood;
- a piece of synthetic winterizer to cover the foam rubber.

The carriage screed method on the example of making a do-it-yourself headboard

Button grid layout

In the figure you can see the layout of the approximate placement of buttons. This scheme must be moved to foam rubber, drawing horizontal lines at a distance of 15 cm from each other and vertical lines at a distance of 10 cm from each other. You will get a grid of vertical rectangles.

Now, draw diagonal lines through all the rectangles. At all intersections of the diagonals, mark the points - these are the places where the buttons are fastened. They should be at the tops of slightly elongated diamonds.

Note: The grid can be drawn on a sheet of paper, attached to the foam rubber, and even then the necessary points can be transferred to the foam rubber. Choose a method convenient for you.

Holes in the foam

To make the carriage tie look really beautiful, and sewing on the buttons does not become a hard job (due to the springy properties of the foam rubber), holes must be drilled in the foam rubber. They must be equal to the diameter of the buttons so that the buttons can sink into them.

Note: Depending on whether you want to get large or small folds, do the following. Cut through holes in the foam rubber with a knife or a special nozzle for a drill for large sweets. Or make a recess only half the thickness of the foam rubber (with the same tsifenbor nozzle). Then the sweets will be less.

In this case, with the help of a sharp knife, through holes were made in the foam rubber. Their diameter is 2.5 cm.

Perhaps the holes are not perfectly even, but this will not affect the final result.

Buttons

This is probably the most delicate job. To decorate this form, you need to work hard - cover a lot of buttons with a cloth.

Plywood preparation

Lay the foam rubber on the plywood and mark the places on it where the buttons will be attached. Drill holes in these places. Their size should be small - sufficient for threading a button lace.

Sintepon preparation

When you make a carriage screed with your own hands, keep in mind that the foam rubber needs to be covered with something so that the fabric does not stick to it. For this purpose, a synthetic winterizer is well suited. Do not forget to make incisions in it - in those places where the buttons will be located.

Construction assembly

Lay plywood on the floor. Apply glue to it - on the side where you plan to attach the foam rubber. Place the foam rubber cut into the shape of plywood on top so that the holes on it and on the plywood match. Press down and let the glue dry.

Cover the foam rubber with padding polyester. Also, make sure that the holes on the foam rubber and synthetic winterizer coincide.

Cover the structure with a cloth, centering it.

Attaching buttons

Now it's time to fasten the buttons. Using a crochet hook, thread the string from the button through the first hole. Fix the ends of the lace with a stapler on the plywood.

Remember the depth to which you pressed the first button and stick to this value for all other buttons.

Note: If you have someone to help you, you will be able to complete the entire carriage tie job in about 2.5 hours.

Fixing decorative fabric

Gently smooth the fabric over the surface of the design. It will not be difficult, because it will slide quite easily along the padding polyester. At the back, attach its ends to the plywood with a stapler. Cut off the excess.

Note: On plywood, as a keepsake, you can put the date of manufacture.

Headboard fixing

Now it remains to attach the resulting beauty. You can hang it on the wall, you can attach it to the bed frame - see what is more convenient in your case.

How do you like the result?

In the same way, you can use the capitonné technique in the manufacture or decoration of other interior items.
