The best tool boxes - an overview of modern types and the best devices for storing hand and power tools. How to make a tool box: choose a shape and drawing for self-production How to make a portable tool box

A large and convenient tool box is the dream of any master. It is understandable, because in such a repository you can compactly put all your tools. They are not so expensive today, so one of the options is to purchase in a store or create a similar masterpiece yourself. Which option would be acceptable for you? Of course, the purchased one has a certain size, but there can be much more tools than can fit in it. But one way or another, you have to put up with it or run to the store again and buy a new one. It’s quite another thing to do it yourself: I picked up the right material and calculated it for all the available tools and even with a perspective. Conveniently? Most likely, you will agree with this argument. Therefore, we will talk in this article about how to make such a box yourself at home.

What HE should be?

If this is a home box, then it can be a regular box with a handle. Well, if you, for example, are a plumber, then it is clear that you will need a box that is more functional, roomy and durable. This role will be successfully performed by the organizer. However, in this article, as an example, we will consider a simple home option - a box with a handle. So, we will assume that we have decided on the type of box where we will keep all the tools we need, or almost all.

Where do we start? First, let's select the material. It can be plywood, wood or even metal, then we will make the calculations. Only then can you start drawing up a detailed drawing. This can be done in the classic way, that is, on whatman paper using a well-sharpened pencil, ruler, compass, square, etc.

The non-classical way is with the help of a special computer program. "AutoCAD" and "Compass" are just "sharpened" to make a professional accurate drawing. The advantage of such programs is that they will help to avoid errors in the calculation and, moreover, it is possible to preview in advance what you will get out of all this.

These programs will only serve you well if you have certain skills in working with them.

The material was selected, and now for the manufacture it remains to assemble all the tools that we will need. Of course, the types of tools are individual. It all depends on what kind of box you want. They, too, are different. But, one way or another, there are universal tools. They are always needed. This is the measuring tool:

  • fasteners;
  • hammer;
  • screwdriver.

Let's start manufacturing

We take the traditional material - edged board of coniferous species. As for processing, this is the simplest and most affordable material, which also has good strength properties.

As planned, it will be a wooden box, and our task now is to materialize the drawing itself into a material. For this case, we need a ruler and a pencil. After that, we mark up on the material and cut out the components of the product with a hacksaw or electric jigsaw. If we planned the usual non-closing option, then we need to make five planes: four walls and a bottom.

When assembling, it is usually best to use wood glue. The joints must be cleaned, and only then apply glue, after which we firmly compress the parts together. Be sure to let the glue dry completely.

After this operation, we can additionally strengthen the box with fasteners - self-tapping screws. Fixed. Now we need to make a handle. It can be an ordinary wooden lath, which we need to nail or screw to the upper edges of the side elements.

Organizer

Following the principle "from simple to complex", let's talk about the organizer. It is clear that in the open-top box, which was written above, you can put a large tool: a hand saw, a hammer, a mallet, and much, much more.

And where to put small things? There are all sorts of screws, bolts, nuts, etc. This small fastener tends to get lost or not be at the very moment when it is especially needed. This is where we need an organizer.

As already noted, this type of boxes, by their design, is the most functional in operation. What does he represent? It's kind of like a box on a box, or rather, a lot of drawers in one section for storing not only medium-sized tools, but also every little thing. Of course, at first glance, it may seem that it will not be easy to make such a design. But it only seems to be. Basically, difficulties arise in the manufacture of the sliding mechanism. Everything else is much easier to do. Now in more detail about manufacturing technology.

  1. We start by making the main body. It should be open and deep so that we can put various medium-sized tools (hammers, wrenches, etc.) into it. We can say that the design of this main body is quite simple, but in essence it is an ordinary box that can be divided into several sections using vertical planes.
  2. The next stage is the manufacture of 4 smaller boxes. You probably noticed that the number of these sections is even, and we mentally divide them into pairs, trying to adhere to the dimensions of their lower large counterpart during manufacture. They will be stacked on top of each other. One pair of boxes (upper) will be with lids. They will be either folding on piano hinges, or retractable like a Soviet school pencil case.
  3. Now it remains to connect these boxes together. We will do this with the help of metal connecting strips. We need 6 pieces. On the one hand, and also on the other hand, we hook on one plate (short) to connect the two lower boxes - small and large. Two more plates (long) will connect all the boxes together. And, finally, the longest bar will act as a handle, and at the same time connect the two upper floors of the organizer. As you can see, there is nothing complicated here, and the sliding mechanism is utterly simplified, as shown in the example of a metal organizer - the principle is the same.

Making a metal case for tools

Now let's talk about a homemade metal case. Don't jump to the conclusion that it's impossible. Of course, only an experienced locksmith can make an organizer out of metal on his own and with special tools and the appropriate material. Factory metal boxes are usually made of lightweight metal such as aluminum so that the box itself is not heavy. At home, working with aluminum is difficult.

In principle, a metal box for is loudly said. Rather, an ordinary box will be made of metal. The material that is needed to make such a box is ordinary soft galvanized steel (about 0.3 mm thick). From the tools we need:

  • square;
  • caliper (marking);
  • sharpened small core or marker;
  • ruler;
  • hammer;
  • anvil (wide metal bar);
  • file;
  • pliers.

Then everything follows the same scenario: drawing, markup. The most interesting thing is that all this can be done directly on the galvanized sheet using a sharpened core (or marker), whatever you like. We then mark with a marker on the metal those places that we have to remove.

After that, we proceed to trimming using scissors for metal.

After trimming everything superfluous, we get such a complex geometric figure (“winged rectangle”).

Now let's work a little blacksmiths. For this case, we have an anvil, and, tapping with a hammer, gently bend the edges of our workpiece. It is better to do this not randomly, but in a certain order.

First we bend one sidewall, and then we bend the other.

Now the sides in turn.

After that, let's do the bending of the protruding petals. They will make the structure itself more rigid, and it will not “play”.

Pliers can be used to wrap protruding parts on the top of the box.

After such manipulations, you should carefully walk around the entire product with a hammer, straightening it.

In this case, it turned out to be a small box. But after all, according to this principle, you can make a similar one - more, and in the end you get such a metal tool box.

So, if you want, everything is possible.

We hope that this article will be useful for you, dear readers. If your tools are in order, then supplement it with the manufacture of a regular tool box. If your instruments do not have a permanent “place of residence”, then consider building a two- or even three-story “transformer house” for it. Try to do this, and your tool will always be in place, and you yourself will be pleased to use a product made by yourself in your household.

Video

This video shows how you can make a box for tools and scrap materials:

See how you can make tool organizer cases yourself:

  1. Types of convenient boxes
  2. Material selection
  3. Stool-like box
  4. Small portable option

The master always has his own tool at hand. It allows him to quickly cope with the tasks. There are not many tools. Sooner or later there are so many of them that no pockets are enough to spread out all the screwdrivers and rulers. Need a box. You can't store them in a mess. Impacts, friction - drills become dull and quickly fail. In the process of work, there is not always time to look for the right screwdriver, so the space of a capacious wooden storage should be used, and the entire volume should be distributed into separate compartments.

The easiest way is to buy a container made of plastic or iron. Inside the finished models, the storage place for tools has already been thought out in advance, divided into several compartments. But a homemade box is assembled for each specific master, taking into account storage places for tools, consumables and fasteners. Some will fit the simplest models, others will need a multifunctional portable case. It makes sense to find out what types of portable storage exist in order to choose the right model, and then construct one with your own hands.

Types of convenient boxes

According to the form of manufacture and purpose, tool boxes are classified:

  1. Portable.
  2. Stationary.
  3. Special.

Portable containers for carpentry tools - compact models, inside of which a small number of things needed in the work are placed. The complete set of the case depends on the specialization of the master. Its design assumes a strong lock that will not open during long transportation. The portable box is constantly in motion, so it is important that several types of fasteners, convenient niches are thought out inside it, in which you can, for example, lay screwdrivers and fasten them so that they do not hang out or knock.

It is quite difficult to make a stationary tool box with your own hands. And all because its design is much more complicated than that of a portable one. Inside, you do not need to think over the arrangement of fasteners. The main thing is to form certain compartments and divide them into groups.

A special case is made according to strictly individual needs.. It can, for example, store only drill bits or wrenches of various sizes. Such a box for small tools is more convenient than universal storage. To perform work, sometimes the master needs to take several special cases with him at once. Before proceeding with the manufacture of storage, you need to decide which option is most suitable for the job.

For this you need:

  • inventory of available tools;
  • sort them into groups;
  • distribute by size.

Then it will immediately become clear which box is best made for tools. The article has several instructions that will help solve this problem. First, it is important to choose a material that will be easiest to work with.

Material selection

The hardest thing is to make a tool box out of metal. Such material is not suitable for a portable design - the case will turn out to be too heavy. For stationary models in which iron keys or heavy components will be stored, it will do. During work, welding will be required. If you have the skills and ability to use it, you can try. If they are not there, plywood 8-10 mm thick can replace the metal.

It only looks fragile, but it is a very durable material. The parts are fastened together with screws and additionally coated with PVA glue, as they quickly become loose. For the construction of the frame, it is better to use hardwood bars. The walls of the case must be thicker - at least 10 mm. Boxes with cells for carpentry tools are best made from plywood 8 mm thick.

The mobility of stationary plywood boxes will increase markedly if rollers are attached to the bottom, which can be bought at a furniture store.

Boxes for various tools made of wood - carpentry classics. This material allows you to create any models with your own hands.

Case for storing small tools

If you need to have a set of small tools on hand, you can get by with a simple box with a handle. The process of its manufacture must be divided into several stages:

  • The first stage is planning, making general calculations, drawing. It should display the order of subsequent actions. The drawing is drawn up independently, or you can use computer programs.
  • The second stage is the preparation of the necessary building materials. These are wooden sheets 10-15 mm thick, nails, fasteners. For work, you may need measuring instruments, a hacksaw and a hammer.
  • The third stage is production. Using the instructions, you can assemble a simple open tool box with your own hands (photo).

Before starting work, you need to make a drawing.

  • Number 1 - the walls of the box (two pieces).
  • Number 2 - sidewalls (two pieces).
  • Number 3 is the bottom of the box.
  • Number 4 - a groove made along the thickness of the partition. Its depth should be equal to one third of the thickness of the plywood.

All parts with a hacksaw are cut from plywood blanks. Then the edges of the workpieces are polished with sandpaper. A box is assembled from the largest parts, its sides are coated with PVA glue, then they are additionally fastened with small nails (it makes no sense to use bolt fastening here). The handle-holder (it is also a partition) is made according to the following scheme:

Plywood with a thickness of 5 mm is selected. The hole for the handle is cut with a jigsaw. The workpiece is inserted into the grooves made, which are pre-coated with PVA glue. To prevent the handle from cutting your hand, you need to take a bar with a section of 20x45 mm. The planer rounds the edges of the bar. A slot is made across the entire width, into which a plywood blank is simply inserted. In the end it should look like this.

Along the edges of the plywood handle (this is clearly visible in the photo), wooden slats are attached, in which notches-holders for pliers, pliers, wrenches or screwdrivers were previously made. The toolbox is ready. So that it does not get dirty, you need to paint it in several layers with wood varnish.

Using the same plywood, you can make a large box with your own hands, which with a slight movement turns into a stable stool. This was invented by craftsmen working with carpentry tools. You can take this drawing as a basis.

For these parts, it is required to make four legs measuring 375x50, with bevels at the ends, made at an angle of 15 degrees. And another handle 660 mm long and 40 mm wide. Along the edges - the same bevel. And here is a visual plan of its assembly.

The stool is assembled according to the proposed scheme, the parts are fastened with 4.5x60 mm screws, and not with self-tapping screws. At the final stage, such a box is obtained. Make it yourself - simple, as a result - a multifunctional storage for tools. If you turn it over, you get a stable stool.

Small portable option

There is the easiest option for making a box that is suitable for the average homeowner. Outwardly, it will look like in the photo.

A detailed drawing is attached to the model:

Number 1 indicates the sidewall, number 2 - the bottom of the wooden box, number 4 - the handle stand. The handle itself is a bar measuring 382 by 30 mm. Another detail is the holder - a rectangle 118 mm wide and 55 mm long. Three identical holes must be made in the holder. For this, a drill is used. The assembly of a large box begins with the connection of the bottom and sidewall, then the handle stand is mounted. The photo shows all the stages of the upcoming work.

Then the second rack is installed, and at the same time the park-holder is inserted into the blind holes. Then fasteners for screwdrivers are mounted. This is what should end up happening.

Most often, when we go into most workshops, we see the following picture: drills, brushes, files lie in a dilapidated plastic cup, screws, nails and bolts of various sizes find peace in a tin, and wrenches, screwdrivers and clamps rest quietly, hanging on a carnation under the ceiling in a disposable bag.

But there comes a day when we need to find some kind of nut of a specific diameter. We have been tinkering with all of the above for more than one hour, wasting that precious time that could have gone to the improvement of a house, a plot, or just some little thing.

This article will translate a few tricks that will help you keep the workshop not only clean and tidy, but also always know what is where.

The first trick

Self-tapping screws, screws, nails are best stored packaged in several jars with threaded lids. Just screw the lid to the bottom of any shelf and screw the jar with the contents into it. This will save you space and allow you to always recognize the details that are in the bank. Moreover, they do not take up much space, and each small bolt, screw or self-tapping screw can be packaged in size, diameter and length.

Trick two

To store keys, scissors, nuts and washers, you will need a sheet of hard fiberboard (perforated is better) and wire. Hooks are made from it, the ends of which fit snugly against each other. Nuts and washers are strung on them. And keys and other tools can be marked on hooks that are made from the same wire.

Storage of tools in your own workshop

Trick three

To store nails, screws or self-tapping screws, you can make a three or four-story box. The bottom will be molds from cupcakes or other confectionery, and the walls are made of ordinary plywood.

Trick four

To store cutters and drills, it is best to use a sheet of polystyrene or foam that is attached to the wall. Holes of the required diameter are made in it for drills and cutters. Due to the excellent elasticity of the foam or polystyrene sheets, the tools are firmly fixed and do not fall out. Plus, it's easy to extract them. With the help of such a simple invention, you can store not only drills and cutters, but also screwdrivers of various shapes, polyhedrons, drills for a perforator.

Cunning fifth

With the help of disposable plastic plates, you can make pockets for storing circles and various grinding discs. Plates must be cut in half, screwed to the wall with screws. It is best to use plates of different diameters. Thus, you can immediately recognize which circle and what diameter you need.

Plastic plates for storing tools

Trick six

To store all kinds of small parts, you can make boxes that will be attached to the wall with magnets. To do this, you will need small plastic containers (preferably with a tight-fitting lid), on the bottom of which washers are glued. At the same time, a magnetic tape or magnets from the speakers must be fixed to the wall.

To store small things, boxes on beckons are suitable.

Trick seventh

To store clamps, you can make a narrow rectangular box. We attach the box to the wall with one side so that the clamp handles are inside, and the second part just hangs in the air.

Clamp storage

Trick eighth

In every barn or workshop, in addition to tools, you can still find all kinds of building materials that are afraid of moisture. It was just for their storage that craftsmen came up with one simple little thing. First, we need to make a box one square meter in size from bars and plywood. We sheathe the walls and bottom of the finished box with foam plastic from the outside. From the inside of the wall, it is desirable to sheathe with geotextiles. All this is done so that moisture cannot penetrate the stored dry mixes, and the one that nevertheless got inside does not remain on the walls of the box, but evaporates through the natural fabric.

Plywood box

Trick nine

If you have a lot of all kinds of plumbing parts in your workshop, it is best to make a multi-story box with shelves for them. To do this, we make a cube from plywood and bars and close it on three sides. Inside the box, using furniture nails, we fix several shelves from the same plywood.

Here we have all kinds of plumbing accessories on them: taps, joints, tees, half-inch slings - on the first shelf, all the same accessories, but only three-quarters of an inch - on the second shelf, and we put the inch ones to the very bottom, so as their weight is much higher than the previous ones.

If you have components of a larger radius on the farm, then you will have to slightly increase the storage space and make a few extra shelves.
Thanks to these tricks, your workshop will always be in order and it will not be difficult for you to find any tool that you need in everyday life.

And finally, a video from Steve - how to make wooden shelves for storing various tools

Steve makes a box for storing small items (screws, nails)

Any owner has many different tools and fasteners. Sometimes all this is stored in a separate box, on or in, neatly folded or piled in a heap. Often, starting or, if necessary, tightening the nuts, you have to look for the right key, screwdriver or pliers for a long time. A multifunctional tool box with compartments for wrenches, drills, fasteners, etc. will help you avoid confusion. You can buy it at the store or make your own. In today's editorial review of the site, we will consider the types of boxes for what you can make and how to assemble them with your own hands.

Toolboxes differ in the material of manufacture and the type of stored items. According to the material used, they can be:

  • wooden. Wood is an affordable and easy-to-work material. For the manufacture of boxing, either durable multilayer plywood with a thickness of 10, 16 or 18 mm is used. The complexity of the design depends on the wishes and skills of the master;
  • metal. Steel or iron structures are quite heavy, but have strength and durability. Lighter boxes are made of aluminum;
  • plastic. These boxes are lightweight, durable, comfortable and modern design.

Also, the boxes differ in the type of tool stored in them and are:

  1. Unprofessional. They are a multiple compartment design. For them, bags or cases of different sizes are used.
  2. Power tool. Special boxes used to store drills, etc. As a rule, such boxes are equipped with a large compartment for certain equipment and several small ones for additional equipment.
  3. Professional. Most craftsmen prefer this particular type of tool boxes, since they have separate seats for a certain type of equipment.
  4. Universal. Boxes of this type have a large number of compartments and are used to store a wide variety of . There are toolboxes with removable partitions, which allows you to rebuild the interior space at your own discretion.

Tool box design

Tool boxes are also divided by design. And here we mean not the shape of the box, but the opening option and the presence of auxiliary compartments. There are the following designs:

  • case. It is a rectangular box with a handle. Usually they have several compartments and removable partitions, allowing you to plan the interior space at your discretion. Similar designs differ in small dimensions and weight;
  • container. Sufficiently roomy box with partitions and separate containers, which are folded according to the principle of matryoshka. Sections can be laid out up and to the sides, and the box itself is often equipped with wheels for ease of transportation;
  • multibox. This is a vertically arranged design in which drawers with and fasteners are put forward like in a traditional linen chest of drawers.

Tool box requirements

When choosing a tool box in a store or deciding to make it yourself, you need to take into account some of the requirements that apply to its design:

  1. The bottom of the box or container must be sufficiently thick and strong, since it is on it that the bulk of the contents falls.
  2. When the box is fully loaded and lifted, its walls should not be deformed.
  3. It is recommended to choose a design made of fire-resistant material.
  4. There should be no gaps in the box so that dust and dirt do not get inside and do not contaminate what is stored in it.

For your information! If you decide to purchase a tool box in a store, then give preference to multifunctional models with separate compartments and a closed inset organizer for small parts and fasteners.

How to make a simple open toolbox

Inexpensive wood is most often used to make a tool box, especially if this is your first time. We propose to make the simplest box without a lid. Its advantage lies in the fact that almost any size can be placed and carried in it.

To make a simple tool box, you will need a board, wood glue, self-tapping screws, or a drill and a hacksaw. The simplest box consists of:

  • long walls (front and back) - 2 pcs.;
  • narrow and high sidewalls (the height of the front and rear walls should be greater, since a handle will be attached to them) - 2 pcs.;
  • bottom (from a thick board) - 1 pc.;
  • handles (square or round bar, galvanized, chrome-plated or aluminum tube) - 1 pc.

Assemble all the parts into a single structure using wood glue and. Pay special attention to the fastening of the handle. Such a box can be supplemented with internal partitions (removable or stationary), as well as make a lid. Dimensions can be very different: it all depends on your needs and desires. Assembly photos are shown below.

Plywood tool box

First of all, you need to make a drawing and calculations, transfer them to plywood. Carefully mark up, cut out the details along the outlined contours and make grooves, thanks to which the structure will be more durable. All sections must be processed with sandpaper.

The next step is to assemble the box. Glue is used to connect the parts. First, the frame is glued together (to facilitate the work, you can use clamps or rubber rings). We make the handle from MDF and carefully process it or use it from an old case or suitcase. To keep everything in its place in the box, you can make small compartments. One part of the box is taken under the compartment for placing screwdrivers.

Assembling the tool box

First of all, we assemble the box body and cover. To make it easier, use clamps and corner ties. The parts are connected using a special glue for carpentry. After the glue dries, we drill holes, countersink them and carry out additional fixation with self-tapping screws.

Next, in the same way we assemble a removable tray, install partitions and additionally fix everything with self-tapping screws. Inside the box body, on short walls, we install two strips, stepping back 300 mm from the top edge.

Once again we process the toolbox with fine abrasive paper to remove the slightest burrs. Coat the structure with a protective compound and allow to dry. If, after such processing, raised wood fibers are found, then it is necessary to process the box again with sandpaper and repeat the finish.

Completing the assembly, you need to connect the cover to the body using hinges and self-tapping screws. Install the handle and latches-locks, as well as protective metal lining on all corners of the box. The box is ready, and now it can be filled with the necessary equipment and fasteners.

A few words at the end

A tool box is a must-have item for any craftsman. You can buy it at any hardware store or make your own according to your needs. We hope that the examples of making tool boxes will be useful to you. If you have your own ideas, then share them in the comment form.

Home instruments have an amazing ability to get lost at the most inopportune moment. If hammers and screwdrivers are used periodically, they are stored anywhere: mezzanines, cabinet shelves, balcony.

Therefore, when the wife asks to hang a shelf, remembering exactly where the drill and self-tapping screws are located will be problematic. It is much more practical and efficient to store tools in a special box, which can be purchased ready-made or made by hand.

What to choose

We note right away that the tool box can be different, and the shape and dimensions directly depend on what is supposed to be stored inside the case.

For hand tools. Usually this is a rectangular design with a handle, where the interior space is delimited into one large compartment and 2-3 smaller compartments. It is convenient to store hammers, screwdrivers, fasteners here.

For power tools. Such cases are usually produced by the manufacturer of the instrument itself. Standard option: a portable box, where one cell is reserved for a power tool and exactly repeats its shape, the rest are intended for equipment: drills, batteries and other things.

Organizers. These are modular designs, consisting of several drawers of various shapes and sizes. Such options are suitable for professionals and home craftsmen, they are easy to store and transport, help to quickly find any little thing.

When the problem of tool storage arises, the first thing that comes to mind is to purchase a ready-made box in the store. However, this is not the best option. The fact is that factory designs are focused on the average buyer, so they may not be suitable for a specific model of grinder or drill. In addition, the number of tools is usually added and the interior space becomes small.

To avoid these problems, you can make a tool box yourself with a little effort and creativity.

From the boards

If there are few tools, they are used periodically and only for home use, it makes no sense to manufacture a complex structure. It is enough to make an ordinary wooden box from boards so that screwdrivers, hammers and self-tapping screws are simply in one place, and not lying around the whole apartment.

Given that we are talking about an elementary product, you can do without a preliminary drawing. The main thing is to decide on the size of the sides. For the material of manufacture, it is better to choose a softwood edged board: this is the most affordable option that is easy to process.

The homemade box consists of 5 parts:

  • 2 side walls;
  • 2 end walls;

The elements are cut out in accordance with the planned dimensions, treated with sandpaper and fastened together with self-tapping screws. For greater reliability, the side parts can be fixed with metal corners.

Such a homemade wooden box is inconvenient to carry, but it will help to store tools in one place and not look for them all over the apartment. It can be put in the trunk of a car, on a storage shelf or in a garage. Sizes vary depending on what exactly is supposed to be stored inside.

From plywood

DIY plywood tool boxes attract attention with an interesting design. They are easy to use and emphasize the professionalism and qualifications of the home master.

A convenient plywood box with a handle will consist of the following items:

  • bottom - dimensions 450 * 200 mm, a shallow groove is cut in the middle for a transverse partition;
  • walls - cut out in the amount of 4 pieces. A groove is also cut in the middle of the end elements;
  • transverse rack - recommended height 400 mm, length adjusted to the width of the bottom, taking into account the sidewalls. The upper corners of the rack are sawn off to make a trapezoidal shape.

The assembly is carried out according to this scheme. To begin with, the body elements are glued together, tightly pressed against each other. While the glue dries, a hole is cut in the transverse rack, which will act as a handle, wooden dies can be glued in the upper part for ease of grip. Next, the rack is installed in pre-prepared grooves, fixed with glue.

After completion of the work, a plywood box for tools is obtained, convenient for carrying. However, the design can be made more functional. To do this, wooden dies with pre-drilled holes are glued to the transverse partition, where you can place screwdrivers, pliers, side cutters and other tools necessary for doing homework.

To prevent the box from drying out, it is covered with several layers of varnishes. For greater reliability, if desired, the bottom is fastened to the walls with corners.

Transformation into a stool

From plywood and wooden blocks, you can make a portable tool storage box, which, when turned upside down, will turn into a simple stool or stand for working at height. This universal design is made according to this scheme.

The bars are cut according to the given size. They will serve as legs and be tilted. To make the stool stable, the upper and lower ends are cut off at an angle of 15 degrees.

Sheets of plywood are nailed to the legs, which will become the end walls. The recommended width is 360 mm, the height is selected in such a way as to completely hide the legs without protruding beyond them.

The side walls are cut out of plywood, occupying about half the bar in width. The edges of the rectangle are cut at an angle to exactly match the angle of the legs.

The cover is made rectangular, attached to the ends of the racks with self-tapping screws.

After the work done, turn the resulting stool upside down, turning it into a deep box for storing tools. To make the structure convenient to carry, a wooden block is cut out, which in length will correspond to the distance between the walls. They round off sharp corners, screw the bar with self-tapping screws and get a convenient handle, which additionally acts as a stiffener.

drawer organizer

This is a more complex design, but it is ideal for storing large tools and additional small things: fasteners, corners, studs and much more. At first glance, such boxes seem to be a complex mechanism, but in fact they can be made on your own, spending a little free time.

The manufacturing process is conditionally divided into 3 stages:

  • assemble the body. This is a deep plywood box with an open top, which is designed to store a large tool, such as a grinder, a screwdriver or an electric drill. However, you can do the opposite: delimit the internal space into several sections with wooden dies and store bolts, nuts and self-tapping screws here;
  • additional boxes. There will be 4 of them, and they are installed on top of the main box, which must be taken into account when determining the dimensions. Additional drawers should not go beyond the boundaries of the base. To give the structure a complete look, the upper boxes are equipped with lids;
  • separate elements are combined into a single whole. To do this, the organizer is assembled into a finished form, markings are made on the walls for installing metal plates: 3 pieces for a group of boxes on each side. Then, in accordance with the markings, holes are drilled where the bushings are installed.

To make the organizer easy to carry, the top drawers can be additionally equipped with handles.

Note that the simplest options are given here. With a little effort, you can turn an ordinary toolbox into a work of art that will become a real decoration of the garage, country house and city apartment.
