Microwave Samsung MC28H5013. Samsung microwave ovens with grill Samsung microwave oven with grill instructions

Someone still considers a microwave oven an unnecessary attribute of luxury, and for many it has become simply an indispensable life companion. After all, this household appliance eliminates the need to stand at the stove all day and is able to cook exclusively according to the instructions of the hostess.

Cooking in a microwave is not done by heating the air, as with a traditional stove, but by exposing microwaves to the water molecules that are contained in the products. Thus, not the surface of the product is heated, but its entire volume. But water, as you know, cannot be heated above 100 degrees, so this temperature is the maximum for any product heated in a microwave oven.

When heated to 100 degrees, foods retain more nutrients, but their taste does not come out as rich as those cooked in a conventional oven. Due to more gentle heating, pieces of meat, cheese, biscuits do not look as appetizing and rosy as those cooked in the traditional way. That is why microwave ovens are designed primarily for quickly heating ready-made meals and defrosting food.

In order to be able to cook dishes with an appetizing, ruddy crust and bring their taste closer to the usual, manufacturers began to equip microwave ovens with grills. A grill is a heater capable of heating up to very high temperatures. And where there is heating, there are completely different aromas and tastes, where the dishes are more tasty and appetizing in appearance.

The grill significantly expands the capabilities of the microwave oven and allows you to cook dishes with a crispy crust in it. It is a heating element that emits infrared radiation with a certain intensity and a certain wavelength.

In microwave ovens, I use two types of grills - heating elements and quartz. heating element is a metal tube that heats up to its maximum temperature in about 3 minutes. A quartz grill is also a tube, but only glass, and inside it is a wire made of an alloy of nickel and chromium. The quartz grill reaches its maximum temperature in one minute.

But grills differ not only in their design. Much more important is that they are heated to different temperatures: heating element - up to 650 degrees, and quartz - up to 800. In addition, a quartz grill emits radiation with a shorter wavelength, but with a greater intensity of exposure to products. Therefore, grills of this type fry faster, and the food is much tastier. At the same time, due to the high temperature, all contaminants burn out on the surface of the quartz grill during its operation, therefore it is much easier to clean such a heating element than a heating element.

Grills, as a rule, are located at the top of the working chamber. Accordingly, processed products are located below them. The heat generated by the heating element grill is directed both up and down, which reduces its efficiency and gives such an undesirable effect as heating the "ceiling". The quartz grill has a reflective lid that directs the heat downward, directly onto the food.

Grills in microwave ovens are used in different ways. The most common option is the combined mode. In this mode, the magnetron emitting microwave turns on alternately with the grill. The duration of each cycle depends on the settings made in the furnace. The mode can be with a predominance of the grill or, conversely, microwave radiation. The combined mode speeds up the cooking process and, most importantly, makes the taste of food brighter and more familiar. The grill can also be switched on solo. This mode does not use microwave radiation.

Benefits of Samsung Microwave Ovens

The South Korean brand produces highly functional microwave ovens equipped with all the necessary options for cooking various dishes.

Among the main advantages I would like to highlight:

  • wide functionality;
  • ease of use;
  • easy cleaning from all kinds of contaminants;
  • modern stylish design and ergonomics;
  • light weight.

Samsung microwave ovens are able to determine the most optimal mode for cooking any dish. to make it as tasty as possible. This is primarily due to the so-called triple microwave distribution system. In stoves from other manufacturers, as a rule, only one antenna is used to emit waves.

Samsung models have three microwave sources. In addition to the main aperture antenna, two more auxiliary (slot) antennas are installed. They are located symmetrically with respect to the main one. Food during cooking in such a microwave oven warms up evenly from all sides. This has a positive effect on its taste, and also contributes to the preservation of nutrients.

The quality of dishes cooked in Samsung microwave ovens is also improved by such a function as automatic detection of food moisture. Oven sensors, having received this information, determine the optimal mode of cooking or heating. Thanks to this, the food warms up well, but it does not dry out.

The microwave, as you know, can be used to defrost food. Samsung ovens have a special function that allows you to perform this procedure in an accelerated mode. Products thawed in this mode do not lose their smell or taste. Moreover, they do not even need to be moistened before this process, unlike conventional defrosting.

The inner walls of the working chambers of Samsung microwave ovens are covered with bioceramics. This material is very durable and has no harmful effect on food. In addition, drops of fat practically do not stick to the bioceramic coating, which greatly simplifies the maintenance of the stove.

Criterias of choice

When choosing a microwave, you should be guided by criteria such as:

  • the volume of the working chamber;
  • microwave and grill power;
  • grill type;
  • control method;
  • design and options.

Each of these criteria, to one degree or another, affects the final cost of a microwave oven: some are less, others are more. Therefore, if you want to save money, you need to approach the problem of choice comprehensively. It should not be thought that it is necessarily bad.

For a single person or a family of two people, a large microwave oven is absolutely not needed, since it will be operated by 25-50 percent, and you will have to pay a lot for it. In this case, experts recommend ovens up to 20 liters. For a family of 3-4 people, it is worth looking for a microwave for 20-35 liters. Everything above is for numerous families and at a fairly high price.

The higher the power, the faster the microwave will cook and heat up., and the lower, the slower. But this does not mean that in the first case it will be necessary to wait a minute, and in the second - an hour. Of course, the time difference is not that big. So it is best to choose the "golden mean" - microwaves with a power of 800-850 watts.

According to the method of control, microwave ovens are divided into 2 categories: with mechanical and electronic control. The first option is the simplest, but also the most reliable. Knobs break much less often than buttons or touch switches. Besides, Microwaves with mechanical control are cheaper.

As for design, it should be understood that the more unusual the appearance of the stove, the more expensive it will cost. When choosing a microwave, consider the design of your kitchen and do not chase the exotic, throwing money away. The same can be said about additional options. Modern manufacturers like to equip their devices with various "gadgets". But we must clearly understand: each additional option entails an indispensable rise in the cost of the entire device.

Lost instructions?

Instructions and manuals for household appliances and electronics, computers, smartphones, cars, musical and other equipment... Hundreds of thousands of instructions for all types of technical devices for various purposes to your attention!

You can find and download for free and without registration the necessary instruction manual in Russian or read it online, create your own list of instructions on this site for remote access (subject to registration).

For the convenience of users, the archive is divided into categories according to the types of technical devices.

An easy way to find the required manual is simply to enter the model name in the search field. If there is no result, try to break the abbreviation into parts, that is, put spaces between letters and numbers and press the search button again. Often the same model is marked differently by the manufacturer itself, for example, spaces and dashes may be present in the printed user manual, but not on the device itself.

Do not forget the main rule, which is usually written at the very beginning of the document: "read this user manual before using the device ...", and this is true - this is a prerequisite to help, not only keep the equipment in good condition for many years of operation, but also thoroughly understand all the features and functions for its full use.

Observations show that our compatriots are divided into two unequal camps in their attitude to microwave ovens. The vast majority turned out to be those that use the microwave only to heat up ready-made meals (in extreme cases, to defrost food). Many users, even years after purchasing a microwave oven, remain unaware of all of its documented capabilities.

Those who use microwave ovens “to the fullest” remain in the minority: they are aware of the presence of built-in programs, they know when to use the grill, and when to use convection, etc. In our today's review, the multifunctional microwave presented by Samsung (MC28H5013). We decided to find out how wide the possibilities of such a device are, and how rational it is to use a microwave oven as a replacement for more traditional kitchen appliances.

Equipment

The microwave oven is supplied in a box made in a strict color scheme: on a cardboard background, images and text information are applied in black, from which the user can familiarize himself with the main functions of the microwave oven.

Judging by this "Spartan" design, the box is not intended to be put on display, and its purpose is exclusively functional: to keep the device intact and safe until it is unpacked. In addition to thick cardboard, foam inserts are used to protect the oven.

When you open the box, inside you will find:

  • the oven itself;
  • two grills for frying (high and low);
  • instructions (aka recipe book);
  • warranty card.

The kit also includes standard items such as a glass tray and a spinning ring underneath. In general, as we see: there is everything you need, and there is nothing superfluous.

Inner lining material

The inner walls of the chamber are covered with bioceramic enamel, which, according to the manufacturer, serves as a protection against bacteria, is easy to clean, scratch resistant and will last 10 years.

In the lower part there is an element made of heat-resistant plastic, on which a rotating ring and a glass tray are mounted. The inner surface of the door - heat-resistant glass, sealant, metal. Locking contacts are built into the door mechanism, which will not allow both turning on the oven with the door open, and will suspend any cooking mode when it is opened during cooking.

Control

The appearance of the microwave oven can also be called classic: it is a white rectangular cuboid with a glass door with a black metal mesh and a control panel at the front and a steel surface at the back. The oven opens in the classic microwave way: you need to pull the door handle.

The control is carried out using a flat panel, in the upper part of which there is a display, in idle mode, designed to show the current time, when the mode is selected, it displays already entered parameters, and when the device is operating, it shows the time remaining until the end of cooking (as well as the set temperature in the mode convection). In addition to numbers, icons are displayed on the display.

During operation, the microwave chamber is illuminated, so that you can observe the process of preparing your dish. However, the backlight cannot be called too bright, so you need to be prepared for the fact that at first you will have to periodically look inside to check the degree of readiness of the dish. Moreover, this will have to be done much more often if cooking takes place on the upper grill, when the dish with food is poorly visible.

It is only partially possible to understand the management of the Samsung MC28H5013 without reading the instructions. Without problems, you can set the time, start the heating mode, convection or combined mode (microwave + grill / microwave + convection). For all other modes and programs, an instruction will be required, which contains explanations regarding what exactly lies under one or another program number.

The microwave oven is controlled using 17 buttons, with which you can set one of the possible operating modes (time, power, cooking method), or select a program for the automatic preparation of a particular dish. For defrosting, you may also need to enter the weight of the food. The buttons are easy to press, and each press is accompanied by a beep. Each button contains an icon and a text explanation in Russian. The only downside is the lack of backlight. In low light conditions, as well as when the device is installed above or below eye level, you often have to look closely to see the inscriptions.

We list these buttons and give a brief explanation:

  • Russian Cuisine, Homemade Recipes - select the number of a pre-installed program designed to prepare a certain dish from the recipe book, section "Russian Cuisine";
  • Healthy food - selection of the number of the pre-installed program, designed for cooking a certain dish from the recipe book, section "Healthy food" (cooking cereals and pasta, vegetables, fish and chicken);
  • Fermentation (dough / yogurt) - selection of the program number for proofing different types of dough, as well as for making homemade yogurt;
  • Convection - selection of the convection mode (from 40 to 200 degrees, up to 60 minutes);
  • Grill - selection of the "grill" mode (up to 60 minutes);
  • microwave - choice of cooking time and power (from 100 to 900 watts);
  • Quick defrosting - you will need to specify the type of product and its weight;
  • Microwave + Grill / Microwave + convection - selection of the appropriate combined mode (with power setting for microwave and temperature for convection);
  • Control lock;
  • Tray rotation - (on/off);
  • Elimination of smells - the mode of self-cleaning of the microwave oven;
  • Clock - time setting

There are also "More" / "Less" buttons, a "Select" button, a "+30 sec" button, a "Start" start button and a "Stop" stop button, which also serves to put the device into power saving mode.

As we have already said, before using it is recommended to read the instructions. At the same time, it is desirable to at least “diagonally” view all sections, and not just the one that describes the procedure that the user wants to use at the moment.

Despite the fact that there are quite a lot of functions, it is difficult to get confused in them: to perform most of the actions, it is enough to clearly follow the instructions given in the instructions.

The microwave power level varies from low to high. As usual, the manufacturer gives a table expressed in watts, which hints that depending on the selected mode, the power really changes. However, the results of our measurements cast doubt on this assumption: in the microwave mode, energy consumption always had only 2 gradations: maximum and minimum.

The range of temperatures set during convection is from 40 to 230 degrees (in increments of 10). This is an excellent spread, allowing not only to cook traditional dishes, but also to experiment with cooking at low temperatures (including manually setting the proofing mode for the dough, if the desired one was not found in the preset programs).

Instruction and recipe book

The 44 page manual contains detailed information regarding all issues that may be encountered during the use of the device. Here you can find recommendations regarding the choice of dishes, tips on which stand is better to cook this or that dish, how best to defrost this or that product, etc.

The instructions also include a recipe book containing 60 recipes in the Russian Cuisine section, 15 recipes in the Healthy Eating section, as well as 3 dough recipes (pizza, cake, bread) and a yogurt recipe (for the corresponding modes), 10 recipes for grill, a guide for cooking fresh and frozen vegetables, cooking rice and pasta, instructions for reheating baby food, and even special tips for melting butter or candied honey, making frosting, or toasting almonds. It is easy to calculate that even if you cook each of the above dishes once, then such a diet is enough for several months of a varied diet.

Exploitation

Preparation for use

It is recommended that the oven be installed freestanding on a flat, level surface at least 85 cm from the floor, with a minimum clearance of 20 cm at the top and 10 cm at the back. Obviously, a stationary place should be allocated for the tested unit: moving the furnace from place to place is a rather laborious task. Before first use, it is recommended to wipe the oven with a damp cloth and remove the internal components and the door seal.

The manufacturer also recommends setting the clock before use. This will not affect the quality of food preparation, besides, every time the power is turned off, the clock will be reset to zero. Unfortunately, this oven does not have non-volatile memory, so in the event of a power outage, the clock will have to be set again, and it will not be possible to continue the execution of the previously launched program.

Microwave care

All accessories - grates, baking tray and glass disc - are easy to clean in the dishwasher. The case and the glass door are wiped with a damp cloth with detergent, the manufacturer categorically does not recommend using abrasives and solvents.

If there is heavy dirt, it is recommended to boil a glass of water inside the appliance. There is also a special "Odor Removal" program designed to remove smoke and steam from the microwave oven after cooking is completed.

Testing

Objective Tests

In the heating rate test, 500 ml of water at a temperature of 20 °C is poured into a standard GOST half-liter jar, after which it is heated for a certain amount of time in microwave mode at maximum power and then, after stirring, the water temperature is measured again. You can see the test results in the table.

We also measured the energy consumption of a microwave oven in various operating modes. Here we (with the exception of sleep mode) give average values rounded to tens, which is quite consistent with both the accuracy of the equipment used and the meaning of the requirements that can be made to such tests.

test dishes

As test dishes, we decided to prepare the following:

  • Defrosting a test sample of minced meat.
  • Baked potatoes in the grill + microwave mode.
  • Grilled tomatoes in grill + microwave mode.
  • Chinese chicken.
  • Omelette.
  • Lemon balls.
  • Poached egg.

Defrosting minced meat

As a test sample, minced Nikolay, already familiar to iXBT readers from the previous testing, weighing 800 grams, consisting of half lean beef with medium-fat pork, acted as a test sample. The minced meat was frozen in the form of a rounded lump.

On the device, the "Quick defrosting" mode, the "Meat" program were selected and the weight was set: 800 grams. The built-in program decided that a little more than 12 minutes would be enough for our piece of minced meat. After some time (approximately 4 minutes), the Samsung oven (MC28H5013) emitted a signal, after which the minced meat needed to be turned over. At this point, visually minced meat almost did not begin to defrost. After 12 minutes, we took out our test minced meat and checked how it thawed.

The result did not please us: only the upper part (1.5-2 centimeters deep) was defrosted, while the central part remained frozen. It should be noted here that the developer "insured" himself in such a case and added that after the completion of the "Quick Defrost" program, the product should be left for 20-90 minutes. We appreciated this "knight's move", but as a result, there was a slight feeling of bewilderment: what kind of "quick defrosting" is this, if it can take almost two hours of time?

Grill + Microwave Baked Potatoes

According to the recipe, the potatoes need to be cut in half, and then cooked on a high stand at a power of 600 W + grill for 7-8 minutes. Pretty simple recipe. We took medium sized potatoes and followed the instructions exactly.

Result: edible, but not too tasty. The inside of the potatoes appeared to be cooked, while the top was barely browned under the influence of the grill. For our taste, it would make sense to cook such a dish at a lower microwave power and keep it under the grill longer.

Grilled tomatoes

After experimenting with potatoes, we decided to test another recipe from the "Grill" section and opted for tomatoes with cheese. Tomatoes need to be cut in half, sprinkled with cheese on top and laid out on a flat dish of heat-resistant glass. Cook at 300 W + grill for 5-6 minutes, then let stand for 2-3 minutes.

The result turned out to be about the same as in the case of potatoes: the cheese, of course, melted and was slightly fried, but the tomato halves turned out to be slightly distinguishable from raw ones and looked more like “warmed up”. Well, after the dish has cooled down, the difference turned out to be completely imperceptible.

Chinese chicken

It is worth noting that in this recipe chicken wings were originally supposed, in the absence of which we used the same chicken drumstick. For the marinade, it was supposed to take 0.3 tablespoons of soy sauce, 0.3 cups of honey, 2 tbsp. l. dry white wine, the same amount of vegetable oil, a clove of garlic and a little grated ginger.

Pre-marinated chicken pieces are cooked on a low rack on a pre-installed program from the Russian Cuisine, Homemade Recipes set. The result turned out to be quite suitable: the chicken was evenly baked and turned out to be very tasty. No complaints.

Omelette

Another recipe from Russian Cuisine is an ordinary omelet. Three eggs, 30 grams of milk, salt. Shake and cook directly in the bowl on the appropriate program.

The result is below average. At the end of the automatic program, the omelette turned out to be frankly raw, I had to bring it to readiness manually. In addition, the bottom of the omelette stuck to the plate, it was not very convenient to eat it.

lemon balls

Lemon balls (another "Russian cuisine" recipe) are made from 100 grams of flour, 60 grams of butter, 40 grams of sugar, one and a half egg yolks, as well as a small amount of lemon zest and powdered sugar.

They are prepared in two stages: first, the dough is mixed and balls are formed, which are cooked until the signal of the microwave oven. After that, the balls need to be greased with egg yolk, sprinkled with powdered sugar and continue cooking. Result: a feeling of bewilderment. The taste of the balls was not much different from the usual inexpensive cookies. Quite a lot of time was spent, and the resulting portion would hardly have satisfied even two people. Does it even make sense to start cooking for the sake of getting five cookies (mini-cupcakes)?

Rice

Rice is washed, then poured with water in a ratio of 1:2 (250 g of rice per 500 ml of water) and cooked for about 17 minutes at maximum power in a bowl with a closed lid.

Result: rice was cooked perfectly. The impression was somewhat spoiled by the fact that boiling water leaked under the lid and poured onto the rotating circle of the microwave.

poached egg

Starting to prepare this dish, we were initially set up for failure. A poached egg is not the easiest dish, but here it is also supposed to be cooked on an automatic program.

According to the recipe, you need to take 300 ml of water and add 10-15 ml of 15% vinegar there. A bowl of water should be placed in a microwave oven, bring the water to a boil (the microwave will signal itself at the right time), then stir the water until a funnel appears, drive a broken egg into it and cook until the cooking is completed (i.e. until the oven signal, not until the program runs out).

Result: excellent. We were frankly surprised at how well the program worked. Even a small amount of water that boiled over the edge of the bowl did not overshadow our impression.

findings

Testing the Samsung microwave with grill and convection (model MC28H5013) was very educational for us. Since the capabilities of the device are quite wide, we were able to try it in a variety of qualities. Well, the presence of a large number of recipes made it possible not to think about what exactly you can cook in it.

As a result, we were convinced that a microwave oven can serve as a complete replacement for an oven for a small family. All declared functions work correctly, so that the microwave can be used equally successfully for both heating and cooking. The presence of convection and grill, as well as the ability to combine modes, open up additional options when you want to get a golden crust or process the product with hot air. The oven also allows you to defrost food, make yoghurts and proof dough before baking.

The oven is easy to use (however, you still have to read the instructions), reliable and easy to use. The quality of materials and assembly was also on the level. Perhaps the only thing we didn't like was the quality of the recipes and their corresponding programs. None of the above dishes inspired us so much that we wanted to cook it again (except, perhaps, poached eggs). The “quick defrost” mode also turned out to be ineffective: if you intend to use a microwave oven for this task, you will have to spend some time choosing the right mode.

In general, you should not expect a "feeling of a miracle" similar to that which many people had when they first met a slow cooker (you just need to cut the ingredients, and she cooks herself!).

In the case of a microwave oven (at least with the Samsung MC28H5013), this trick will not work. You will have to “get used to” this device, just like you have to get used to the features of a particular oven or hob. Otherwise, the Samsung MC28H5013 is a high-quality and multifunctional kitchen appliance that justifies its price.
